Had crabackes with tarragon and found the tarragon overpowering and there was a lack of other spices. the fries had Old Bay dusting which should have been in the crabcakes.

I worked here back in'89 at the Laurel, MD location. Ype Von Hengst has taken this place to a level that can hardly be considered a 'diner'. The fare is all local sourced and 'healthy'. They serve Bison here. Is that really 'diner' food? The prices have certainly gone way up for sure. After reading the menu selection, I stuck with the diner food basics... Pancakes and Eggs with Bacon. It certainly was delicious and moderately priced compared to everything else. Service was friendly and prompt.

Eggs and banana pancakes for breakfast. On a week day! Who is living better than me? The eggs were cooked exactly as ordered and the pancakes were perfectly yummy. Not a fan of the turkey bacon which was greasier than I expected. Service was not exactly speedy, but it's morning. BANANA PANCAKES!

UPDATE: Ordered Pesto burger, boyfriend ordered chicken tenders; the best chicken tenders I've eaten. Cole saw had cranberries in it and the mayonnaise wasn't an overkill, which is awesome. Will definitely be back again. The food was great! I ordered the Spinach Feta Lamb burger, which comes with a side Greek salad. As I'm aware of the amount of dressing American restaurants use, I requested the dressings on the side. The lamb was asked to be cooked medium, and it was cooked medium. As a desert, I ordered the Chai Tea Latte shake, but asked to have the lactose-free soymilk icecream to be replaced with Breyer's fat-free vanilla icecream. (What can I say -- I love my food?) The product was amazing. Boyfriend ordered Caramel French Toast and Eggs, which I thought was too sweet. He got two small sausages, and maybe two eggs worth of scramble. The french toast bread itself was good. The service started off quick and pleasant, but towards the middle and the rest of the service got so slow that another waiter had to pick up our pay. Overall, the decor was very American, which I thought was pretty cute. Music was a bit tacky though. Their food and its ingredients were fresh and delicious (watch out for their dressings though). Will definitely be back!

I just recently moved to this area and thought I'd continue my search for the best Eggs Benedict. Upon arriving we opened the door to what seemed like a cafeteria line that had no order. Apparently the people standing in line had already out their name down to be seated and we're just standing there to be seated. I'm not really one to wait so I choose to go to the bar seating area & get down to some eating. We were greeted with a smile & asked what we wanted to drink etc... We were ready to order & waited about 10 mins for our food, which is good! However, things suddenly took a turn when the eggs benedict arrived. The sauce tasted like a stick of melted butter & the yolk was hard, not a drop of runny yolk to smear on my muffin. Also, there was no choice given to the way the potatoes were served. No hash brown was available & by the time I finished the first muffin I felt if I finished the second it may cause an unhealthy rise in my cholesterol. To conclude, the bill wasn't that bad and the service was ok. But the food was not great. Will not be going back. The search for the best eggs benedict continues.

We ate a mid-afternoon dinner there four days ago with my mother and we were very pleased with everything. My mother & I each ordered the pesto veggie pasta with feta cheese ($12.99 plus $.99 for the cheese) and my husband ordered the lump crab cake platter ($16.99). For dessert, I ordered my own serving of bread pudding because it's my "obsession" dessert - and my mother & my husband shared a serving of bread pudding ($6.99/each, which was pricey - but it came with vanilla ice cream and butterscotch sauce). All of the food was *delicious*. In addition: our server was a sweet young guy, the interior of the diner is very attractive and the restroom was clean. (Update on 9/6/16): We ate a late morning lunch there today and it was again a very positive experience. My mother & I each ordered the same thing as before (still the same price), but we didn't bother with the feta cheese this time. My husband ordered the grilled flounder tacos ($11.99) and a cup of coffee ($2.89, which is pricey for a diner - although it also tasted better than the coffee at most diners). The food was again delicious and we were too full for dessert, much as I wanted to order more of their delicious bread pudding.

This place is not your typical diner. They have a lot of healthy and nutritious options to choose from. They even have a gluten free menu and they get products from local farms. At first I was so hesitant to go here-- especially right after the gym because I was literally imagining a diner filled with greasy food and bad salads, but my boy friend convinced me to turn into this diner. He said they have a good menu. I was glad I took that turn cause the food was delicious and service was great. I got the steak with eggs. I substitute the home fries for strawberries with a yummy yogurt/ cinnamon dip. However they charged extra for the strawberries, which I don't really understand. The steak was cooked the way I like and it was good with the eggs. The strawberries were good dip in the special dip. Yum~ My boyfriend ordered a milkshake and he didn't like it and he didn't even finish it. So don't get their healthy milkshakes. Happy I found this place!

Had the "farm raised bison huevos rancheros" it was excellent, interesting, tasty and a little spicy. That's how I like it. I visit DC occasionally and this was the 3rd or 4th time ive been to a Silver Diner since my family introduced me about 10 years ago. I love breakfast and ive never been disappointed here. Congratulations on celebrating your 25th year. I look forward to enjoying future breakfasts at this metro DC success story.

Family said this place is a four! If you count the show behind the counter , it's a five! The food was status quo ! Typical plastic diner food ! It it revisits the pass and fills the belly! But what is more amazing is the "machine" behind the counter. Over 20 employees moving at the speed of grease , highly organized and efficient ! They seem to be having fun! I had the ham steak and eggs . All good ! My wife had the meatloaf was standard and came with a salad . If you are looking for a place with a soul , this is not it ! But if you are looking for a place to fill your belly and get out quickly , eureka you found it! A big effort is made to make every one happy ! Breakfast was moving a rather fast pace and still manage was able to say hello! I was very impressed with the team spirit!

Meh. The food is decent. The service is not good. I don't know if they just had mass turn over, but it feels like everyone is in training. There are no steps of service, no urgency. Tons of people wandering around but not at all clear on the most efficient way to serve the masses. They need a good service manager in there, IMHO. The waffles and eggs are good. The breakfast potatoes are plentiful, but extremely bland. The cooks don't even bother throwing a little salt on them before they go out. Once a fried potato is out of the fryer, you only get a second or two to salt before the chance passes. At no point after that can you impart ANY flavor. The mushroom omelette I got was completely unseasoned. It also tasted like maple syrup from the grill. I wouldn't order it again. This is our second time. We probably won't be back since there are so many great diners and breakfast spots around.

I love this location!! We always get amazing service and it always seems to hit the spot. We even had a hiccup today with our food (that was solved easily within 30 seconds) and the manager came over to apologize and gave us a free entree for another visit. This was unnecessary given the nature of the mistake but he wanted to make sure we were happy and would return...which we will. I work for Nordstrom and I understand and appreciate people taking care of people. And honestly all the food is pretty solid which is why we eat out right?!

My girls and I were looking for someplace other than IHOP for breakfast this morning and decided to try this place we've driven past on multiple occasions. I had assumed that it was typical greasy spoon fare based on its 50's diner exterior. Nothing could have been further from the truth. The menu is expertly crafted by a chef that clearly understands nuance of flavor and visual presentation, and his use of local healthy ingredients is the best I've seen anywhere. Truthfully, I'm more of a meat and potatoes guy and have never enjoyed quinoa... until today. I ordered the veggie huevos rancheros which had fresh beets, butternut squash, brussels sprouts, black beans, eggs, peppers, scallions, cilantro, goat cheese, avocado, and more over a bed of quinoa. It was amazing. The service was good and the food came out in a reasonable period of time although the restaurant was mostly full on this weekday morning. The ambiance was a little on the loud side, but I didn't have to worry if my girls got a little wild at the booth. The only downside is that the prices are on the higher end of what I'm willing to pay for a breakfast. However, after I ate, I felt that it was worth every penny. Very impressed. Definitely worth a try.

Came here for a late night meal, and the staff was very attentive. The food was a hit or miss. I enjoyed the chicken noodle soup and their bread is really good. The California omelet wasn't very good, and the hibiscus lemonade tasted like the lemonade that comes out of a fountain (minute maid?). It reminds me of IHOP, but more expensive. I think they actually use local ingredients, so it's a bit of a shame that the food is not more delicious.

Enjoyed brunch with the family today. Service was good, the kids enjoyed the juke box and the activities on the kids menu. I noticed an increased number of healthy selections on the menu. Our food was perfectly cooked and the coffee was terrific. I always enjoy a breakfast or brunch meal here. Although I thought it was strange that cheese costs extra on an omelette.

I found the menu exceptional. They buy locally and have a good selection of food for those with certain diets, such as gluten free, vegetarian, etc. The staff was a younger group and they all seemed to like each other and like working there. Everyone was very friendly.

During my trip to DC for the weekend, I came here to meet a friend for brunch. We have been here before. I ordered the lamb sliders which came with a Greek side salad. My friend ordered Eggs Benedict. I also ordered coffee. Our food came out quickly. The salad had feta cheese, diced cucumber, diced tomatoes, diced yellow peppers and olives. The lamb was cooked medium rare to medium. There were three sliders in the order. My friend's Eggs Benedict had sliced tomato on the toasted English muffin. I could not finish the last slider and there was about half the salad left. I asked for a to go container.

This was my first visit to this location for a meeting and it was an excellent change from what my previous experiences visiting other locations. The hostess, Nikki was attentive and worked well with my needs for our meeting. She engaged in conversation rather than avoiding speaking with me about my needs. They have changed a lot on the menu now and you have more healthy choices. There was kids night on Tuesday and it wasn't you normal kids night at a restaurant. Our meeting was on the opposite side of the venue and we weren't overwhelmed with what was going on with kids night. We enjoyed our visit and made this our regular location for future meetings over another venue. The manager, Heather invited us to come anytime and she would make sure we had everything we needed for our meetings.

My first time to eat at this place. First, I want to say that the staff were all friendly, polite, professional and attentive. They place was clean and well organized. Parking was easy and plentiful. The prices were also quite good. So on the surface, the place looks pretty good. But the breakfast I ordered was was, quite literally, a bowl of greasy mush (I was under the impression the plate of sausage, eggs, cheese and veggies was going to be served somewhat separated on a proper plate). Tasty, but greasy stuff. I also bit into a couple of small bones in the sausage buried in the mixture--a sign of lower quality ingredients. In spite of my first experience being less than impressive food wise, I do plan on coming back and see what else they have to offer. The staff made me feel welcome and appreciated, and these days that means a lot to me. But these folks really have to get there act together when it comes to the food. A dinner that can't serve a superb American-style breakfast is not a dinner at all.

My family and I absolutely love Silver Diner. We go so often, the servers tend to recognize us. The level of service and food quality is incredibly consistent. The service is friendly, efficient, and dependably good. The breakfasts are great. My husband loves their pancakes and I enjoy the bison huevos rancheros. The hot chocolate is rich, yummy goodness. I never get one for myself because it is so rich, it's like a meal in itself. For lunch, you can never go wrong with a burger. The philly cheese steak is very good, too. Will Silver Diner ever get a Michelin star? No, but as a diner, it's top notch and I know I'll get exactly what I want out of my experience there 99% of the time.

Everytime we come down to the Annandale area, we're reminded of Silver Diner which we started eating at years ago. It seems, since the 90s and Jerry McGuire times. While staying nearby, I was ready to write this place off again. I'm glad I didn't. Service was great and more importantly, breakfast was plate-licking good. I had the bison huevos rancheros. The eggs were delicately and deliciously done on top to run into the hash of meat, beans, veggies, queso fresco. Mix it all up and you've done one heck of a breakfast dish. They add hot sauce to it too. Really good. Price is high but for the quality, it was a good value. Silver Diner, you still complete me.

We went to Silver Diner because my husband had a free birthday entree and dessert. I remember back in the day when my friends and I would hang out at Silver Diner because it was open "late" and had amazing greasy cheese fries...those were the days. These days they have a relatively new farm-to-table type branding. I've had a handful of different things from their menu all of which have been pretty good. This time I had the Baja Fish Tacos from the under 600 calories menu. They were pretty good and the side salad was awesome. My husband got the wasabi salmon sliders because they sounded awesome. Unfortunately, although a great concept, they didn't really pan out. There was a piece of pickled ginger (sushi-style) on each slider which does bring home the whole wasabi theme but was a little too much. I would say, in general, my advice to Silver Diner would be to pick a theme and stick with it. Either do greasy diner food really well or do farm-to-table food really well. There's no doing both well. It felt weird sitting in a diner-style restaurant, eating off diner-style plates, drinking out of huge plastic cups, and then eating food with complicated flavor concepts. Nice effort though.

I like Silver Diner restaurants, but I will not return to the Merrifield location. I ordered while parked in the curbside carryout designated space. I was told my order would take 15 minutes to complete. I asked if the order would be brought out. I was told it would. After 33 minutes of waiting. I called back to inquire. The person who answered the phone, the same person who took my order, said, "we had a hard time finding the car". He wasn't truthful. I had previously described my car and told him where I was parked. I was the only person in a designated curbside carryout space. I hate being lied to. Just say you're too lazy to do your job!

This is our second visit into this place this month. I honestly don't remember what I ordered the first time, but I do remember the summer salad which included mango, tender spinach leaves and other fresh fruit served with a vinegarettdressing. Yummy! This visit I ordered the fish plate which came with slaw and old bay fries. The old bay fries were the highlight of my meal--crispy, well seasoned and hot out of the grease. The fish had no seasoning at all, but was cooked perfectly. Simply seasoning the fish with the "same" old bay seasoning would have made this lunch perfect. If you order the fish, specifically ask that they season it with Old Bay. That's it!

Open late in NOVA (this is rare). Great new organic menu with local food. Ate an awesome bacon cheeseburger and delicious hot chocolate. Food came out quick, wife ordered breakfast food at midnight and it's delicious.

Eggs were good and home fries not bad either. I asked for a side of avocado and got a scoop. Very strange. Nice service and clean. Not bad for the price.

Wow, this place has really revamped their menu since the last time I was here couple years ago. I was hungry, so I decided to come over to have dinner around 10 pm, drawn in by the glamorous Yelp food pictures. Parking was easy at this time of night--the front side of the restaurant has several speed bumps and a metal plate, plus mostly handicap and takeout customer parking, and a couple of regular spots. I didn't see the backside, but I'm assuming they have plenty of parking there too. Outside the restaurant, if you listen carefully, the seemed to be playing an interview of some chef describing how they prepare the food. On the inside of course, you get to hear whatever music they happen to be playing at the time. They had some holiday decor still up near the entrance. After waiting a few moments, we were greeted by the host and quickly brought over to our table. Looking over their new menu, I was deciding between their Pesto Burger and their Teriyaki Portobello Mushroom dish... Eventually the want for the burger won out. Also tried a cup of their Corn Crab Chowder. The chowder was meh. But the Pesto Burger--the Pesto Burger came with sweet potato fries and red onion and pickle slices on the side. The buns were lightly spread with pesto on top and bottom. Beneath the top bun was a slice of tomato--it was there, but didn't seem particularly useful other than to help balance out the pH of the whole thing. Below the tomato was the layer of greens sitting atop the goat cheese covered medium burger. The roasted red pepper hunk finished off the bottom with the bottom bun. Definitely a great tasting burger the way the flavors melded together so nicely. Yes--I want more! Their sweet potato fries were pretty nicely done too--a touch of salt, and not overly fried--not too crispy like a double fried chicken wing or a Jason's Deli Flatbread Cracker, and not soggy like an orphaned floppy McDonald's French Fry. I have to say I was definitely impressed enough with the burger that I plan to come back to try all the different items on their menu a different time.

It's a Silver Diner - it's decent. I hadn't been to one in a long time and this one was better than the one I used to go to when I was in High School. The service was friendly and this place is convenient. 3 stars.

I love Silver Diner for a classic breakfast any time. They do all the classics plus new dishes, and everything is really fresh.

Service was excellent - really friendly, attentive and knowledgeable waiter (Edward)! The classic beef burger was excellent and requested medium rare- came out perfectly medium rare. Fries were yummy- well seasoned fresh cut. Bison burger was also very good. Flat iron steak was tough and lacked basic seasoning, other than the finishing butter. NEEDS SALT! Spinach and mashed potatoes were good, not great. Oreo milkshake was awesome- comes with enough on the side for a whole second shake. Will be back to try meatloaf and breakfast!

Excellent service, awesome menu, great food! Yummy shakes. Good thing we're only visiting from Texas because otherwise I'd be here daily! I got the chai tea soy shake and hubby got the banana Nutella shake. That filled us up! Then our entrees arrived. Hubby got the steak with mashed potatoes, onion strings, and sautéed spinach. He is a picky eater and he loved it!! I got the banana coconut and quinoa pancakes (blueberries and pecans too) with strawberries. Yum! Hector was our server and he was great!

Stopped in for breakfast before heading to the ER to get my injured elbow x-rayed. We knew we'd need fortification before facing hours in an ER hallway! Silver diner was the correct call! I was turned off by the loudspeaker announcing " must try" options to the parking lot, but once inside, it was great! Fun decor, quick seating in a booth, prompt and super-friendly service. And the menu! A huge range of healthy, interesting options! We had Huevos Rancheros with bison, and the Power Breakfast, and grits. Power breakfast was great - fresh and flavorful. Huevos were good, too, but the tortilla that came with was not. Cooked way too dark, and greasy - inedible, basically. Grits were the real deal. Coffee was very good - and bottomless. So, that breakfast got us through 4 hours on the ER and beyond. Highly recommended! My elbow - yup, broken! Tripped on a Mexican sidewalk. But that's a story for another time!

Hadn't been to a silver diner in ages and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of their breakfast. Hector was our server and he was outstanding! Answered all of our questions, responded to our requests and kept smiling the entire time. Would return again for sure thanks to the experience that he and the food provided.

There is no better diner in the DC metro area, when you consider all aspects: quality, variety, service, value, ambiance. While you can hit the SD any time of day, breakfast/brunch is where they really excel.

Absolutely love this place. I used to know this area, but a quick YELP search showed me that there were few places open for breakfast on a Sunday morning. That was a shame, and I hardly ever eat at places with a 3 star review. But the choices were limited, so we gave it a shot. FANTASTIC! Great food, great service, great atmosphere. I can only imagine folks give less than stellar reviews to keep people away. The only negative was the fact that if nobody fed the juke box, it would play really annoying songs. Most of the crowd figured it out after I pumped in a few Led Zeppelin tunes to keep the 'mickey mouse club' song from playing again. Glad this place is here. I plan to be back in the area again at a hotel down the road and breakfast options seem pretty limited.

  • Brittany M.

I love this place. Am sort of surprised at the 3 star average for reviews. I've been a handful of times, and all at different times of the day/night. I don't believe it's open 24 hours, but pretty close on the weekends. The Peanut Butter Heath Milkshake is the stuff of dreams. Don't order this baby to go. Go in, order it, and get 2 milkshakes for the price ($5.99) of the 1 you'd get if you order it to go, because the frosty silver tin they serve it in is enough to refill your glass fully. I've also had a number of the salads here, and since the menu does rotate seasonally, some of them probably aren't served at the moment, but one was a Strawberry/Mango salad and another, just last night, was an amazing Roasted Veggie Salad with Chicken. It came with a huge sliced chicken breast, and veggies ranging from beets to dried peaches to egg plant to peppers and beyond. My fiance had the Vegeterian Mango Stir Fry from their Under 600 calorie menu, and while sometimes I'm hesitant to eat warm mango, it was also very good. He enjoyed his banana-y shake as well, but I can't comment, since bananas are the grossest food in the world. The service has also always been very good. Not GREAT, but very good. Quick, friendly, and gets the job done. The restaurant is also super clean, including the bathrooms. Bonus points for mailing us coupons where we can save $5 off $15-$20. Keep doing that, Silver Diner, and we'll keep coming back.

My favorite place to go for real home cooking. Food is always on point and the service is beyond excellent. I'm a regular here, and I'm always leaving with full stomach and taken care of. Love their crab and corn soup paired with pot roast dish!

My husband and I were in between where we wanted to dine at on a Monday night and settled on here since there is a variety of foods to eat. This location wasn't too busy during the dinner hour and staff was friendly upon greeting us when we arrived. The hostess promptly took us to a booth and it was a little dirty and I had accidentally kicked a piece of leftover silverware. I will note that the waitress didn't even pick it up until we gave our money for the check in order to get change back. I noticed that they had bottles of microbrew hereinclude Flying dog. It was a porter I had never tried and was torn because of the price. They wanted close to $6 for a bottle!!! I thought a second I was at the club with those bottle prices. I only got it because it was kind I never had and I did enjoy it. Now to food: I ordered the grilled fish tacos that came with a small side salad. I don't remember the menu mentioning the side salad but would of asked for the dressing on the side since it was swimming in it. Besides that this guilty free dinner was good and tasty. My husband ordered their meatloaf with chili. He said the chili was bland and could have used some work. The meatloaf the diner tried to "fancy" it up with its presentation but I thought it tasted horrible when I had a bite. Now, I'm no judge when it comes to meatloaf and only had a bite when my husband said that it tasted off. I think it was the gravy. Gross!!! He did think the Nutella shake was the highlight of his meal but wasn't even impressed by the that. The service here was horrible. The waitress ignored us the entire time. We had to ask for refills of our waters and never cleared empty plates. Also our food took a long time to come out and really not sure why. Te waitress never made any mention of it.

I love this place. Their customer service is always great, even when there have been minor issues they always do their best to see that you leave happy. The menu is my favorite part though, being so focused on fitness can make it agonizing to find a good place to eat. With Silver Diner, I have a place I can always go to with that greasy spoon vibe, but healthy options s too. Love it.

Workers here are very nice and can start a conversation with anyone. This place is good for a Saturday night hang out with some friends or a Weekday lunch with some coworkers. The food here is very good and I would recommend the Top Hat Burger (Off menu)

Had breakfast here this morning. Scrambled eggs were good, bacon was fine. Potatoes were mediocre and the biscuit was very dry. This is a very middle of the road place. Not great, not bad. An adequate place to get a decent meal.

Went for lunch with my parents and daughter. Haven't been to SD in years. I was happily surprised! I had the lamb burger that came with a Greek salad; burger was cooked properly and delicious. The salad was fresh and well dressed. My mom had the summer citrus salad that looked gorgeous and was amazing, according to her. Pretty good stuff.

Diner gem in the MD suburbs. Extensive menu - you can get whatever you feel like, at any time of day. Our go-to spot for breakfast for dinner! I love the updated menu that provides food-allergy information, showcases local farms, and has amazing-sounding gluten free dishes like gluten free pancakes and french toast! The servers are also very accommodating if you ask them to make a dish without gluten/dairy. It's really hard to decide what to get because everything sounds so good! Things I've had/heard were good from friends I went with: - Bison Huevos Rancheros (DELICOUS - and CAN be made GF) - a chorizo/bison hash with 2 poached eggs, peppers, black beans, scallions, cilantro, and guacamole. I mean, come on. Who ever thought you'd be able to get locally raised BISON at silver diner?? - Warm Local Roasted Veggie Salad with grilled chicken. Beets, squash, brussels sprouts, eggplant, red pepper, greens & kale, sunflower seeds, pecans, dried apricots with a citrus vinaigrette. Definitely a mouthful and SO TASTY. - Coconut Quinoa Pancakes - served with caramelized bananas, blueberries, agave, and pecans on top. I only had a bite, but they were delicious! -Oaxaca Omelette - basically huevos rancheros with no meat. Love that they have seasonal selections!! Really want to go back ASAP and try the Santa Fe Roasted Veggies, Banh Mi Turkey burger, and lots of other things! Plus, they serve beer, wine, and mimosas. What's not to like? Be prepared to wait for a table on the weekends.

This place started out as mediocre, but my last visit sent it straight to the bottom of the barrel. My girl and I came in for a couple of milkshakes. It was one of the first hot days in VA and we thought an old-fashioned shake would hit the spot. We sat at the lunch counter expecting a quick in and out. It took the waitress a couple of minutes to come over even though we were the only ones seated at the counter. We ordered our shakes and then patiently waited with our waters. Several things killed the dining experience for us. One, was the waitress constantly patting the massive wig she was wearing. Pat, pat, pat, then touching someone's food, then back to pat, pat, pat. That could NOT have been hygienic. Thankfully someone else made the shakes or else we would have returned them. Two, the constant bitching by the waitstaff. A drawback to sitting at the lunch counter is being right next to their POS system. Our waitress and other members of the staff would hang out by the system and complain about their jobs, life, customers, etc. Three, the insanely long time it took for our milkshakes to get to us. We were the only ones sitting at the lunch counter and from what we could see, the only people our waitress was attending to, so we couldn't understand why it took 10 minutes to get the shakes out. If we hadn't seen them finally go into the mixing machines we would have walked out. I've heard so many good comments made about the Silver Diner chain and yet I have not once experienced any of its charm. The horrible service we received is the last straw. There are too many other good food joints in the area for me to waste my dollars on this one.

Friendly staff and accurate food orders. Hosts are happy too and there's almost never a line. The bruchetta is pretty good too.

I go to this Silver Diner fairly often. I take taekwondo almost across the street at World Champion Taekwondo champkick.com . I have discovered I actually like this place a lot. The food is much better than diner quality, it is mostly organic and mostly locally sourced. The dishes are classic american with a bit of pizzazz. They do have alcohol. Bottled beer, four wines by the glass and champagne mimosas. Their breakfasts are great, but I enjoy going for burgers, fries and shakes. The dinners are good, too. I recommend the meatloaf or the pot roast, but if you want breakfast the bison huevo rancheros is my favorite. Their gourmet burgers may surprise people and the prices are not dirt cheap, but low for the quality in my opinion, which is what I am here to give you. The service is the biggest problem. For breakfast they are moving, for after work out burger and fries they move slowly. Regardless, they are always friendly and willing to help or fix things.

Let's be real. Silver Diner is an excellent place to visit after a night of heavy drinking. And if you get the right server, it leads to a really entertaining brunch hour. I have a hunch that the breakfast food tastes better than the lunch food---kinda like a burger at IHOP (don't do it!). I have no complaints about breakfast though. My friend who got a reuben didn't like it due to way too much sauerkraut. If you want a car, they will give you a car--even if you are a bunch of twenty-somethings; you just have to ask! (see pic) I would definitely go back. I went twice in one weekend.

Finally a decent place to eat in Northern VA that wont break the bank. The place is very clean, smells great, waitstaff is very courteous and attentive, the decor is pleasing and retro modern without being corny, the jukebox selections are fun, and best of all, the menu choices are delicious. Staple items like pancakes and burgers are great modernized, seasoned well, not greasy or runny, they're huge portions, and the outlier choices are very good too. There's usually something new to experience, and there's excellent vegetarian selections too. It's 24 hours, and conveniently located across the street from Mosaic/Target. Parking situation could improve though. You park behind the restaurant and as a result this causes a bit of a bottleneck at the front entrance/exit off the street due to typical NOVA area knucklehead motorists. Walking path from rear parking to front entrance is a set of cobble stones that might pose challenges/danger for older folks. Ice/snow was not thoroughly cleared there last time I visited; I brought this to the attention of the on duty manager and he said he would immediately take care of it. Okay i guess. All in all, one of the best diners I've ever been to in the area (not that there are many, so this really is a diamond in the rough). Best crab cakes for miles around too.

Silver Diner is appropriately named. Its target market seems to be diners with silver hair or celebrating a silver anniversary. The 50s-esque atmosphere will especially appeal to just about anyone who lived through the actual 1950s. We came for a late lunch with a couple from that generation. Despite a bevy of breakfast and American classics, a healthy Summer Citrus Salad ... at 494 calories ... was the best bet to keep me on my diet. The surprise was how tasty the sweet and fruity medley of Baby Spinach, Mangos, Strawberries, Dried Cranberries, Pecans, and Carrots tossed with a Fat Free Citrus Vinaigrette turned out to be. I recommend it. Olivia opted for a common Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad. I tried a couple bites of the Romaine and Romano blend. It was decent although the chicken dominated the dressing. Our lunch mates tried the Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs and a Grilled Cajun Salmon Caesar Salad. Neither of those looked especially tasty, but to be honest they were just what the silver diners wanted. Service was typical although I'd recommend not sitting in the side section because you're kind of out-of-sight & out-of-mind. Parking is free. Silver Diner. It's exactly as you imagine it will be.

I love the variety of choices, especially vegetarian and gluten-free selections. I ordered a sandwich with Brussels sprouts that was surprisingly tasty. My companion had liver and onions. She was pleased as well. We indulged in desserts. The coconut cream pie was good. The service was good too.

Very disappointing. Breakfast for 2 with tip @ $42 should be better. Service was great but won't make up for poor food. The corned beef hash was nothing but a plate of potatoes and maybe one egg. The kitchen forgot to put in the cheese and the Iced tea tasted like dishwater. Really bad. Not sure what happened but this place has definitely gone down hill.

Very consistently decent place that is more upscale dinner than greasy spoon diner. Lost of healthy and vegetarian options. But still have awesome burger and fries and shakes. Quick in and out as well, not a big wait for tables or service or food. Very affordable for quantity of food you get. It's generally top of my daughters list of favorite places to go for dinner.

It's your average diner when it comes to Corn Beef Hash and eggs. I went back on another day...This time I got the Power Breakfast and my cuzzo got the Ultimate Caramel French Toast. I think we hit the jackpot....it was mmmmmmm, good.

Came here after a long day at the hospital and it did not disappoint. We had great service, great food and a ton of fun playing with the old school jukebox at the table. Wish we had a similar place in Chicago!

Would have given only two stars but I'm giving credit for the nitrate-free bacon. Other than that, quality and service were below standard. Eggs Benedict had over cooked fried eggs instead if poached. Wanted gluten free French Toast but it was toasted in coconut. Seems it would be unnecessarily too sweet. Why be so "fancy"? So I got regular challah French Toast. Well, it wasn't challah bread, and it was way too dry. Strawberries on the side were gross, as if they were from a can and soaked in something fermented. Server was unfamiliar that the menu said it could come with fresh strawberries and I had to point it out to him. And he was very slow with service and getting our check even though it wasn't very busy. I like the idea of fresh healthy food options at Silver Diner. But it's just that - an idea. They certainly don't seem to know how to execute it.

Food - typical for this change and usually frequent patron First time in this restaurant - Gross out to observe an employee leave the bathroom stall without washing hands and return to the kitchen!! Informed the manager but makes me wonder do they educate staff on hygiene

Great service! I love the menu here because you can go healthy and local, or you can go real diner food. Love the atmosphere, too. They've already got the Christmas decorations up! I had the fish tacos today, which were delicious. I've also had some of the pancakes/ french toast breakfast items. Nothing has disappointed me yet!

HAIR ALERT! We were excited to try this place because of the extensive meatless options. We came here once and loved the veggie burger with buffalo sauce and salmon sliders. We were so impressed that we came back a couple weeks later and ordered the veggie burger and fish tacos to go. It was all fine and dandy until we pulled out a long black hair (definitely not ours) embedded deep within the fish taco and smothered in sauce. That did it and we were unable to finish the meal. Many things are forgivable but a hair is not one of them. It is too bad because the food is actually good.

This place has become my go-to sunday morning breakfast place (for best sunday morning hangover spot see: Cyclo, Pho). The options here are bountiful and I really appreciate that they attempt to keep everything as fresh and "local" as possible. On a Sunday morning this place is often slammed with crowds of families but I've never had to wait for a seat and service is always with a smile. I will say that service can sometimes be slow depending on how packed it is. Also they've messed up my orders on a couple of occassions ("Hmm why is this veggie scrambler so porkishly delicious?" "Oh cuz they threw sausage in it"). Luckily i'm not too picky and pick around random unwanted meats thrown into my foods They have a bunch of healthy options lately with several meals clocking in under 500 calories and many veggie options (just watch out for stray bits of sausage). It's definitely a chill family atmosphere. I look forward to coming back and trolling their in-booth jukeboxes (7 plays in a row of Thriller!)

First off, props to the upper management for completely overhauling the menu while still maintaining the essence of a diner. The food has various vegan and vegetarian option. They have also started carrying some organic and local options. Always a big plus for us when we are dining out. We had the mango stir fry and the pesto pasta. Both great options. The service was friendly, and the ambiance very "diner-y". The wife had never been a fan of diners thinking that they only do unhealthy food. Thank you silver diner for converting her. The one feedback I would have, is to include more organic options. Keep up the good job!

  • Desiree R.

Not diner food as the menu has gone too healthy/upscale. No grits :-( I loved going to the Silver Diner for breakfast. Even the biscuits have lost their diner badge. Great place if you don't want an American diner experience. The menu is designed for a more upscale eating experience.

Not bad but nothing special either. Interesting 50's style decor and juke boxes at the table. Service is very friendly but the food is hit or miss. The tomato/mozzarella/basil sandwich with turkey chili is decent but the food is more "average chain" than diner type. An okay place for a quick lunch but nothing special.

My favorite part about this place is the decor. Love the jukebox at each table, the atmosphere, and the friendly staff. Basing this purely off of food though, I'm not much a fan. I think they still have quesadillas, in which case, that is a must-have. Other than that though, nothing that really stood out at me. Run of the mill restaurant, but with a vibe that does make it stand out amongst the rest.

Always enjoy coming here! The food is always excellent and I love that it's local too. Went here for breakfast this morning and had a great meal. The coffee in particular is very good (roasted nearby in Charlottesville, too!) compared with typical diner coffee. My only complaint was that our server today was a bit TOO attentive...came to our table at least three times in five minutes asking if we were ready to order, which is annoying. Give me a chance to think about it! Other than that, though, it was a Saturday morning well spent.

This "Diner" will probably appeal to all the Yelpers I see complaining about diners that serve diner food. As near as I can describe it in one sentence, it's Applebee's wrapped in the trappings of a diner. Also, in spite of being lit like the Space Shuttle on its pad all night, they don't open until 7 AM. What the hell? I find a good measure of a diner is its pancakes. These were some pretty poor cakes. Biscuit-mix cakes would have been very similar--and that ain't good.

There are a ton of Silver Diners around the NOVA area--- open 24 hours. Breakfast 24/7, yes! Silver Diner is my last resort food place after a late night out. They have a variety of healthy breakfast foods. I tried a few of their omelettes and their simple eats. All pretty decent. And I like their jukeboxes.

Just stopped in today for lunch because we were in the area. Mu hubbie got the turkey club which is his favorite when in a diner. I love trying new things, so was excited to see all the different options on the menu, I opted for the fish tacos which came with the summer citrus salad...they were absolutely the best fish tacos I have ever tried. The salad was filled with mango and strawberries as well as spinach and dried cranberries Can't wait to go back. !

I have seen this place for some time and I thought it was okay but I think its great now. I was happy to see that they have a robust gluten free menu and the staff knows it completely and offered items that I would like. There were so many gluten free options that I want to return to try the others. The service was great and there is more than enough food eat. The food was prepared perfectly and served quickly. The also have a large vegetarian menu option for my wife and daughter. I think that I will make this place a monthly outing for my family and guests that visit outside the area.

Kinda expensive for the level of service. My friends went there later in the week and got a free car. I didn't get anything :-( The milkshake was $6, and not as good as the Arby's jamocha shake. Nice atmosphere, just expensive, and although the staff is nice, they are not warm.

I had such a weird experience here, I just had to write about it. I don't see any other reviews like this so far, so maybe we just came on an EXTREMELY off day. But here it goes: Came here for breakfast with boyfriend and his parents after hitting up the H Mart down the street. From the moment we walked in, everyone had to agree that the waitstaff was acting bizarre. The hostess who led us to the booth was completely in outer space and was asking boyfriend's mom a series of unrelated, strange questions as we made our way to the seats at a painfully slow pace. Its like she was walking and talking in slow motion. It was just.. bizarre. We debated the issue once we sat down: was she on drugs? Did she have some kind of mental disorder? Then the waitress comes. Same "out-of-it" airy manner as the hostess! Behaving strangely. Actually she reminded me almost of a female Napoleon Dynamite. We also noticed a nearby waiter who was kind of wandering aimlessly around with a coffee pot in an empty section of the restaurant. WTF? At this point, it was pretty funny but VERY weird. It was like the whole waitstaff was on drugs or pulling some kind of weird prank. The boyfriend and I now joke about this as the weirdest Silver Diner in the area. It was pretty funny, and I'm almost curious to go back and see if it happens again. It was one of the most bizarre restaurant experiences I have had. As for food, standard Silver Diner fare. Since our waitress seemed to be in some kind of trance, the service was obviously pretty slow, so an additional star docked for that.

We were passing through the area and had the opportunity to eat at the Silver Diner across the parking lot from our hotel. They get an A+ on their milkshakes. The service was good and the food was good also. We appreciated the variety away from the standard heavy meals sometimes associated with diner food, like the Summer Citrus salad with grilled salmon. The cup of crab-and-corn chowder that came with my dinner was excellent! We'd stop in again :)

I ordered the sweet potato fries which tasted very fresh and it came with two delicious dipping sauces. I also ordered the corn and crab chowder which had a spicy kick to it. My husband ordered the salmon sliders that came with a summer salad. I like how this diner has healthy options to choose from and it really feels like an upscale diner that uses fresh ingreidients.

11/16/13 830AM. We skipped the hotel breakfast to try this place and it was good. I had the bison hash rancheros entree. The ingredients were fresh and tasty but I was hoping for something more spicy. My husband had the Lumberjack breakfast scrambled with ham (real thin slices which was kind of odd), crispy bacon, homefries (deep fried potatoe pieces) and a biscuit. He wished he'd ordered the gritts instead of homefries. The wheat toast has sunflower seeds imbedded in the crust. His pancakes were cold.

The food is okay I've experienced better. Their greek yogurt parfait was decent. It tasted healthy. It's a decent late night place when ur looking for a place to eat in the area. it's one of the only places that opens that serve food past midnight.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE THIS PLACE. The quality is so consistent and great. Whoever the cooks are, they sure know how to throw down. My boyfriend and I have become regulars at this location. We live nearer to the Springfield location but it's worth making the extra drive here. Extra bonus: my steak is always cooked at the right temperature! Woohoo.

We hadn't been for a while, and the food keeps getting better each time we go, with more healthy and local food options. The menu is large enough so that everyone could find something tasty and the food preparation was outstanding. Only complaint was that the service, while very polite, was a bit erratic and staff seemed a little challenged by the crowd at the time we went. But in general, a real cut about most family restaurants.

great customer service! I ordered "the american favorite" - two poached eggs, a split open freshly baked buttermilk biscuit, crispitty french fries (instead of the homefries. this is key), and ketchup + hot sauce + a side of hollandaise (no charge). i considered this a huge risk situation to order a highly modified meal at a diner.. but it paid off =D and it came with coffee aaand orange juice! best brunch deal in town - if u know how to order it right ;)

  • Bryan C.

Not your typical diner. They have a great, extensive menu... way more than burgers and deep fried foods. They have a menu made up of many healthy options and food from local farms too. I had the bison huevos rancheros breakfast which was great. My wife had eggs, turkey bacon, and blueberry pancakes. She really liked it too. My son had a Belgium waffle. No complaints from him. We will definitely be back! Maybe even for breakfast tomorrow :-) My only complaint is that they should turn the music down a bit. Too loud for my taste.

Usually, we are BIG fans of Silver Diner, so that's why we decided to stop here since our bus to NYC from Vienna was delayed. There were four of us at our booth, and everyone ordered hot food besides me (I went with the Granola/Yogurt Parfait) so it was shocking when the server said to me, "Uh, did you order any food?" as she brought everyone's orders a good 5-10 minutes before mine was ready. So, yes, coffee was still as good as ever but the service was a major downfall here.

They put an unauthorized charge on our credit card. This is what happened. On August 19, 2014 we ate here and paid the bill with our credit card. When our credit card statement came in a couple of weeks later we noticed we were charged $5.00 more on our credit card for that meal than we had authorized. Our copy of the credit card receipt says our server was "107 WAGISH." She is a heavy set 5 foot 4 inch woman about 50 years old. We called the manager at this Silver Diner to complain about this unauthorized charge. During our conversation with the manager it became very apparent that his main goal was to avoid crediting our credit card for this $5.00 unauthorized charge. He did not seem concerned about who caused this unauthorized charge. He said his name was Mendeep. We think that was an unacceptable response from the manager, and it was unacceptable that an unauthorized charge was put on our credit card. We are very surprised we noticed this small unauthorized charge, because when our monthly credit card statement comes in we just scan it to check for obvious incorrect charges. For some reason we noticed this unauthorized charge as we were scanning our monthly statement. Most people probably would not have noticed it, or would not have followed-up on it if they had noticed it. We wonder how many such small dollar unauthorized charges we have not noticed in the past from this or other businesses. We also wonder if our waitress "107 WAGISH" has a history of being involved in a lot of unauthorized charges, and we think this is something the manager should have been very concerned about. If the manager reads this we hope he checks into how prevalent unauthorized charges are at his diner.

The food at this Silver Diner is always pretty tasty, with a lot of healthy offerings. Never had a bad meal here, and really appreciate the gluten-free. The service can be excellent, but it varies with the individual server. The last time I was there, the waitstaff fell all over herself to ensure we had everything we needed for a pleasant dining experience.

I love this spot! I travel on business and come here to eat when I'm nearby. As a lifetime Weight Watcher and pescetarian (veg who eats fish), I find many choices on this menu. I love the salmon sliders which come with the summer citrus salad. Breakfasts are alway great, whether just a nice hot bowl of oatmeal or lovely omelet. If you need just a little something sweet after supper, they have the worlds smallest sundae. Sweet! If you are looking for a diner with options for the whole family including the healthy eater, come here!

I went here for lunch today and ordered the Philly Steak sandwich with fries. Once I went to pick up my order I immediately felt as though I made a mistake. The cheesesteak was awful. One of the worst I've ever eaten. The fries had a garlicky taste to them which I didn't like. As a whole the entire meal didn't taste like diner food at all. I'd compare what I just ate to anything you would order at a chain fast food joint. I forced myself to finish eating because I was hungry and I wasn't going to leave my hotel to find something else to eat.

Very hard place to rate. I want to give it 3 for the burgers and cleanliness. But so many mediocre menu items. Cleanliness is above average for a diner. Service is friendly most of the time. Ambience is good. Menu items are INCONSISTENT, though the items that are good are pretty consistently good. Hamburgers are quite good. The Mozzarella and Basil pesto sandwich is good. Maybe some other items are good too but I only order those two. I wouldn't trust the buffalo burger because I haven't tried it. If you do, let me know how it is. Other menu items, most of the sandwiches and salads, and even breakfasts, I'd say try at your own risk. A lot of the items on the menu are simply not very good tasting, two levels below, say, I-Hop. They really need to trash 2/3 of the items on the menus simply for being blah. Breakfast was nothing special.

Great service always at this location. My son loves the kid's menu here and there are alot of healthy options for the entire family. I love the new farm to table options. I got the goat cheese omelet with wheat toast, very yummy. The menu will please kids and adults alike. They even have some good virginia wines by the glass and some nice beer selections. We come here about once a week and always are happy with food and service. If something is not right, they will fix it. One time the fish I ordered was a bit underdone. They brought me out a new one and a certificate for an entree for our next visit.

I've gone there several times for breakfast and it is always been good. I really enjoy the fact that they buy from local growers and a lot of their foods are organic. Having dinner there a few times and it was okay I prefer breakfast there. The only thing I wish they Would do is have a separate section for families who have children, It would be more enjoyable to eat breakfast and not have some Child screaming in the booth next to you as you're trying to eat.

The first thing you're gonna notice when you walk in to this place is this horrible smell. The place (especially the entrance area) smells like dirty rag. And the tables to the left of the restaurant smells like bathroom. I would not go back to this place.

Love this place! I have been to locations in Arlington and Fairfax and both have delivered excellent, friendly service and fresh and creative food. The dedication to offering a true American Diner experience with the decor is an added bonus. You pay a little more than the standard Bob Evans or Denny's, but the price is small, considering you are supporting local farmers/companies and getting less processed food. Silver Diner never disappoints.

  • Cindy W.

The only reason the Silver Diner is not getting 5 stars is they don't have sweet tea. For heavens sake you are in Virginia! I had the raspberry ice tea and it was yummy. The chocolate shake was amazing! I had the patty melt. The rye bread was fantastic, the burger was juicy and just pink in the middle. You do not need ketchup for the fries, but the ketchup is tasty too. Everything there is locally sourced and hand made. And affordable, which is the best part.

I have certain expectations- even from chains like this one... This place is open late at nights. With that being said, I should expect to receive the same service at 2 pm as 2 am- otherwise, don't stay open late. Service is just okay and the company you will keep here are either old people or teenagers who are loud and have nothing better to do or no where else to go until someone finds a ride (I sound like a bitter old lady, I know- but I'm not even kidding). Food is crappy, too. Edible, sure... But good? Far from it. I got soup- it was just warm. I got it because it was cold- I wanted it to be hotter. I ordered chicken tenders (you'd think those would be hard to screw up...) and they were dry and tough- like they had been sitting for a n hour until some unlucky fool (which happened to be me) ordered them. They sometimes redeem themselves with dessert or shakes. Sometimes. There are better places to go for a late night meal. Or any meal in general.

I appreciate the Silver Dinner for how hard they try to cater to the Northern Virginia yuppie crowd that wants comfort/hangover food around the clock but still for demands organic microgreens and local beef while deeply inebriated. The menu is huge and everything sounds so good... but I never really enjoy the food here. Other than filling, it's usually dry, flavorless, and unappetizing. I always have left overs, not because the portions are large, but because I can never bring myself to finish their offerings. Instead of trying to expand on their already expansive menu, I wish they would focus on what they do the best.... such as their milk shakes. BTW, STOP MAKING ME PAY FOR SONGS. IT'S SO LAME.

Silver Diner has an extensive menu and I've never had a bad meal at this location. The service is just so-so and depends greatly on which server you get. The chocolate cream pie is pretty.. chocolatey and creamy. No false advertising there. I was surprised that their salmon is as good as it is. I mean, it's not fine dining quality, but it's edible given the price point. Their salads are fresh. Nothing here will knock your socks off, but the food is consistently good.

I tried the crab cake omelette and was somewhat disappointed. I discovered that crab cakes should not be made into an omelette. My cousins and I did share the brownie decadence ice cream dessert. The brownie was so rich but the ice cream was so good.

When my fiance and I first came out to the DC area to find a place to live, we got lost in Arlington and went to Silver Diner to get something to eat and figure out what we were doing. Good food and a friendly server helped us relax. Now we live in Falls Church, and there is a Silver Diner right down the street. If you're looking for a fancy meal you won't get it here. But they do give you above-average diner fare. I love the local options and the healthy options they offer, and the tomato-basil-goat cheese omelet is one of my favorite breakfast items. My fiance is a fan of the meatloaf. Sandwiches and burgers are also good, and the shakes are excellent! My friend filled out their comment card when she came to visit "If I owned Silver Diner, I would..." and she filled in "open a Silver Diner in Cincinnati, Ohio." It's excellent diner food for a reasonable price.

I'm not a huge fan to begin with but found myself here with family & friends. It was OK, as yelp says, Meh. I had a burger, there are better burgers to be had. What I noticed was that of our party of six, no one finished their food. So this is one of those places that overdoes it foodwise. They forgot to bring one of the dinners and the server had a knack for interrupting the conversation. It wasn't horrific, it was the usual mediocrity one would expect from this place. p.s. The map Yelp is displaying for this place is all kinds of wrong. It's off Gallows Road.

Other Silver Diners have been what you'd expect from a diner, but the one in Merrifield was terrible. Service was alright, but all we wanted was some pie. What diner messes up pie? I ordered the peach cobbler, and after 10 minutes they returned to tell me they didn't have any. My dining companion ordered the apple pie - the only pie on their menu. I cannot even explain to you how raw the apples were in this pie. They weren't even coated with cinnamon or anything redeeming. It was so gross. Seriously, I just can't even understand how you could make a pie so bad. RAW PIE! How is it even possible? Stick to the health shake or something. Nextime we're needing a pie, we'll walk down to Sweetwater (key lime and apple) or Grevey's (key lime and a million other delicious sounding desserts that are probably better than pie). Sad.

All American diner. The food was what you would expect for diner food. The staff was very friendly and attentive.

The best ever. They even let me join their Blue Plate Special Club. This place is simply awesome. It is my favorite place to eat at...ever. The service is usually really good. The food is simply awesome, not to mention the HUGE selection they have. The meatloaf is a huge helping. I enjoy the mini burger basket or the little cajun steak they sell. Don't waste your quarters on the jukeboxs, I can never get a song I picked to play.

If you like eating in a place that smells like b.o. and an ashtray then Silver Diner is the place for you! The 50s theme is great but it is completely ruined due to the reasons already mentioned. As far as the food goes, hard to say. My husband raved about his omelet but I ordered a hamburger and it was obviously a frozen patty that was just nuked in a microwave. It was disgusting and it felt like rubber. Needless to say, I haven't been back and will not go again.

Silver is better than your run-of-the-mill diner. They have a great breakfast menu and burgers w/ fries are pretty good as well. I liked coming here for the fact that it was a cool setup and the food was consistently good. My husband tells me their milkshakes are good but I have yet to try one.

Great classic diner that strives to actually serve decent food, as opposed to a roadkill-like mess that some diners claim to call food, especially in the NOVA area, where cuisine isn't exactly reminiscent of Paris or NYC. The service is always quick and efficient and my orders--or those of my family and friends--have ALWAYS been 100% correct. Amazing. Also, I really think it helps that at least the full-time managerial staff have some sort of profit-sharing arrangement in the company. Not sure about lowly wait staff (and I would doubt busboys do). The burgers are very tasty, actually--much more than you would typically think. Omelettes and other breakfast staples are top-notch, especially for NOVA. Scrambled eggs are always light and fluffy, sausage is very tasty (albeit small), and shakes are awesome. Overall, this one's a keeper. Some of the dinner items border on the bland or excessive (i.e. the meatloaf platter thing--too much and not really homemade-ish), but all in all, I'd go here any day over IHOP or even the TGI Friday's/Ruby Tuesday's/etc. competition. If I'm looking for something higher-end, I'll go to Sweetwater--for just burgers, Five Guys. They're all a block away.

The service was slow and the food handling in the kitchen was unsafe and unacceptable. I witnessed a kitchen employee not washing hands, touching cooked food after handling raw ground beef and then wiping out steel containers with his apron that was used for wiping hands handling raw ground beef.

This is better than IHOP! Had the eggs benedict, and the eggs were cooked exactly as I asked. The service was prompt and attentive. Very clean. The breakfast potatoes weren't too greasy either!

Typical diner place w/ juke box that plays the oldies for a quarter. Service was quick and friendly. Large portion of food and tasty sausages. Plenty of milkshakes to choose from - all made w/ brewer's ice cream and have low-fat options too. Look to spend btw $8-18 depending on what and how much you order.

We are staying at the Homewood Suites that practically shares a parking lot with the Silver Diner. We didn't want dinner but wanted something small to eat so we went to get milkshakes. The milkshakes are about $7 a piece but totally worth it! I got the Nutella banana one and it was the best milkshake I've ever had. They bring out the regular glass and then a refill one so that you basically get 2 of the glasses of a milkshake so it's well worth the price. Service was friendly and helpful and I love the concept of a healthier restaurant. We will be going back before we leave in the next few days for breakfast or brunch. Amazing place, would recommend. UPDATE: I just had brunch here and it was AMAZING. I had the Banana French Toast and it was amazing. I also had a bowl of fruit and it was so fresh and great! Such an amazing restaurant and friendly staff. Wish there was one in Florida. I will definitely be back if I'm ever in the DC area.

Not my favorite Silver Diner. I generally like Silver Diners because the food tastes fresh and they give decent sized portions and people are all friendly. It was generally the case this time except for the pancakes.... I got the Country Scrambler which comes with a side of silver dollar pancakes... and those pancakes were just NOT good. They were dry and hard. I took a bite and disliked them immediately. My friends got nice fluffy pancakes and I didn't understand why mine wasn't as good. I usually hate asking the waiter to bring out another food but my friends all agreed that the pancakes were just not up to par and Silver Diner has a 110% guarantee so I figured I'd put them to the test. So I asked our waiter for a different set of pancakes. He came and was nice about it and said he would take care of it. After waiting a really long time.... (my friends all finished and we were just waiting for the check), finally the pancakes came. I got 3 medium sized pancakes....that were dark brown. What? I don't understand. I was not pleased.....at all. Whatever, I didn't want to waste food so I just packed them to take home. Then the waiter told me he'd take care of my check.... Which was MISLEADING. Because he charged me for my meal but took off the "extra order of pancakes." I didn't order an "extra" set of pancakes....I wanted a replacement for the ones they had messed up on my original order (which they messed up again!) I don't think this is what 110% guarantee means. Not cool Silver Diner, not cool.

Was here for dinner last night, and was disappointed by the service here. The dinner was fine, but the wait staff was awful! Our waiter, Chris, asked for our drink order, and took that and as soon as he came back, he wanted to know if we were ready to order yet. We told him to give us a few minutes since we only just opened our menus. He comes back and takes our orders which wer the Adobo Chicken with Pasta and Veggies. They were great, but watching not only him, but the most of the wait staff just hanging at the different stations talking to each other and not taking care of the customers who were waiting to place their orders or pay their checks. Not sure if they were just High School or College Students on Vacation, but the management team needs to step up and set things right with the wait staff to ensure that they will get repeat customers in the future. As stated, the food was great, but the service sucked.
