We were going to Okras, next door, and stumbled into Zandras. They had only been open for a month (11/2014). Since my wife is Mexican, she wanted to try this new, what I call a Cantina. Be warned, this is not Mexican, and not Tex-Mex. The best way I can describe Zandras; Cantina (Bar) with Latin fusion tacos. The tacos were very good. Although, I must note the Thai shrimp taco while tasty, made my face sweat, it was spicy, Thai spicy, be prepared. The salsa was tomato paste thick and lacking any fresh flavors, such as cilantro, jalapeños, or lime, however, it had a unique smoky, sweet flavor. Like I said, not Mexican. The chips were routine, if I had to guess, they came from a bag. They had appetizers and tacos, no meal options. You build your selection of tacos, that are sold ala carte, $4-5 each, that being said they are $1 off from opening till 7pm. Two people, two tacos each, and two drinks; $27. A nice place for some tasty tacos and beers with the guys. My suggestions to the manager/owner; 1. Expand the salsa line, have at least three different styles. 2. Have a "3 for $10" taco special, encourage with upsell. 3. If you can't make your own, find someone to sell fresh tortilla chips. 4. People think it's Mexican, label it Latin fusion or International fusion. 5. I'd like to see some carne asada fries, think nachos with fries instead of chips; and some flan on the dessert menu. The ahi has excellent flavor with a dash of heat - just right. The sesame seeds, cabbage, and special sauce come together to make a delightful taco. The bison is ground like the typical Americanized ground beef taco we all know and love. The sharp cheddar stand in sharp contrast to the mildly seasoned meat with shreds of lettuce, onions and tomatoes. Simple and yummy with a homemade feel. Friendly personable service make this a place I'll be back to for sure.

Happy hour is 3-7 and so so just a dollar off so a draft is 4 not 5. Go for tacos before 4 pm and it is 1.00 off each on you order!!!! Free chips and salsa too!!! The food is all priced under 10.00 on the menu. The tacos are single serve and there are so many options too. I got all flour tortillas: Vegetarian taco- Amazing sautéed veggies in butter stuffed in a crisp taco shell!!! Bison-this was the BEST TACO I've ever had the privilege to eat Pulled BBQ chicken- fantastic with a very smoky sauce Ahi Tuna- NOT GOOD DONT GET Rice- red style Spanish rice and it was amazing too Black beans- cooked in butter and served with chopped sautéed veggies and served piping hot. Last night was my third visit to Zandra's. I was disappointed that the quail egg had been replaced with a chicken egg on the chorizo taco. For me it made the taco too large. But it is very good. I also had the Santa Fe Pork. It was very tasty but the pork was dry. The kimchi to meat ratio seems to be wrong on the kimchi taco. More meat, less kimchi. One person at my table ordered the chicken wings, and they were very tasty. Overall Zandra's has decent food. The service has been hit or miss. I personally don't think it has lived up to many peoples expectations leading up to opening. I know some people that had anointed this place as the next big thing in old town. I think it still has a bit to go

Been to Zandras a couple times now. A fun place to come and get a drink. Okay Rita's. The menu has changed several times since the opened. Prices keep going up. Chips have gotten better as well as the salsa. Guacamole needs work. Kind of taste like the pre made stuff you can get a the store. The have choices. However it will cost you. Tacos a lot of filling and not too much meat. It's more a bar then a restaurant so I guess that what you get. Interesting and glowing taco list. Service is hit or miss. Cute place.

When this place first opened I loved going here and would have rated it 5 stars. One my most recent trip I left feeling totally underwhelmed. The two tacos I ordered came out cold. The cheese on our nachos could have been slightly warmer too, but previous visits I had cold cheese so maybe this is just how they do their nachos. I used to come regularly but without the happy hour they used to have it's just an over priced taco place that isn't even that good anymore. This will no longer be a regular place I eat. I guess one pro is their original salsa they give you is getting slightly better. Every time I come it is a slight improvement from the previous visit. Although still not great, it's getting better. Maybe if you use only real tomatoes because I can taste tomato sauce out of a can in it.

This place is awesome! The food was amazing! They serve you 2 tacos at a time, that way the rest don't get cold while you're eating! The atmosphere is pretty cool too. We went on a Saturday night and they had live music. Really friendly atmosphere. If you get the chance, make the trip!

Tried Zandrs's for the first time today and it was amazing! I love tacos, and have tried all the taco joints in the area, this was by far the best. Staff was friendly and quick. I started with the sesame seed chipotle wings. They came out within minutes were steaming hot, and full of flavor. I choose 3 tacos BLT Taco, Bison Taco, and Kimchi Taco. All were head and shoulders over what I expected. My favorite and recommendation would be the BLT. I finished it off with their deep fried ice cream, and I'm happy I did. Absolute 5 star desert could be served at any high end restaurant. I absolutely recommend Zandra's for any one who is looking for a great taco, and good atmosphere.

This review is during the soft opening and I came on the day before the official opening. Zandra's is a quaint bar/restaurant in Old Town Manassas. With El Cactus around the corner, its the 2nd Tex Mex/Mexican restaurant to open here recently. For now it is all indoor seating and its not very big. Most of the tables are high tops with stools the rest are small 2 person tables. The bar is quite big and fully stocked with many beers on tap and bottle, wine, and plenty of liquor choices. Given all this I would say this is leaning on the bar side rather than a restaurant. I came for the tacos. I was surprised to learn all tacos are $3 off during the day! So I got 3 tacos. They're pretty big, much bigger than El Cactus tacos. All the tacos come with pico, lettuce, and a lime wedge. Corn tortillas are the default but flour is an option. I got all corn. We'll start with my favorite. The Carne Asada taco. The steak was actually really good which I often don't find in steak tacos. They're usually too tough, but these were better than most. They also put bleu cheese crumbles on it, which I'm not a huge fan of but it wasn't that much. The Chorizo and Quail Egg taco surprised me, not in a good way. It didn't taste like any chorizo I've ever had. It tasted like chili. I was really let down because I love chorizo and was actually very excited about this taco. The quail egg was fried over easy and placed on top the taco and brought good flavor to the whole thing, but I couldn't get past the whole chili taco thing. The Bison taco was the worst I had. It's ground bison and has melted American cheese mixed in. It tasted exactly like a cheeseburger. A cheeseburger taco. Gross. And no one drained the grease! I must have poured out more than a shot glass full of grease from the thing. The service was quick but I was also one of the only people in the place. I was served fast and everyone was friendly and polite. Unfortunately as I said this was the day before their big opening so there were a lot of preparations going on. So much so that a manager wearing a Chuck Norris shirt (not the best dress if you're a manager) kept arguing with the bartender serving me. They were arguing about the stock of the bar and kept going back and forth for way too long. They weren't arguing in the back. Not quietly off to the side. RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. Definitely one of the most awkward moments I've ever had in a restaurant. And I was sitting waiting for my check the whole. In fact another manager just looked at me, smiled, and walked away. They were clearly distracted. I hope this doesn't become a common thing here.' I'm going to return since they've now officially opened. And I'm going to stay away from the last two tacos I had. Hopefully the Mahi Mahi is good.

I want to like this place... PROS: I like the variety of different tacos - bison, ahi tuna, duck, etc. It's different, while maybe not being truly authentic. The tuna had a pretty yummy seaweed salad on top, which I loved. Also, corn tortillas were a huge plus. The ambiance is cool, dark wood, nice bar. Servers were nice and attentive. CONS: These are almost deal breakers for me! The first thing I judge taqueria's (and the like) is the salsa and guac ... neither of which were good. The salsa has a thick paste like consistency. And the guac had no seasoning ... it was more like plain, mushed up avocado. What about lime, garlic, jalapeno? Something to make it guac? They should really get the salsa and guac fixed! Come on!

A friend and I tried this out on a Friday night and weren't disappointed. We started out with the bison nachos, which had just the right proportion of toppings/chips, and even the chips on the bottom weren't soggy by the time we got to them. We both ordered duck tacos, I had a Santa Fe Pork and he had the BBQ Chicken. The duck had an excellent flavor with just a little bit of kick. I was slightly let down by the pork; the pineapple was just a bit too dominant. My friend also complained that some of the chicken was overcooked; but we both agreed that these were minor nitpicks and we really want to come back and try some of the other flavors. Do keep in mind that this is more of a bar than a restaurant. It's not that large, and most of the tables were high to accommodate standing around and watching the televisions. The music they had on was turned up to a level that made casual conversation difficult. We were told they plan to have live music on Fridays and Saturdays, and I'm really not sure how they're going to fit that into such a small space.

This is an a la carte gourmet taco spot and a new fav. Hubs and I went here on a Sunday right before 4pm. Because it was before 4pm, we got $1 off each taco. Bison was simple and delish, BBQ chicken wasn't overbearing with sauce, fajita didn't taste like it had been drenched in salted butter like some places do, fried tomato was great, chili con queso and its garnish were addicting, cheesecake was HELLOooo amazing, and last but not least, the complimentary chips and salsa did not fall short. Don't ask me how we ate that much but it happened and we are not ashamed... I will be going back to try their drinks and am so excited.

No idea why people love this place so much. Tacos are way overpriced and the flavor is definitely lacking. The chips did not taste fresh. No refills needed for a group of 4. Specialty margarita was premixed and tasted very bad. First and last.

First time visiting this place, met a few friends up for Taco Tuesday. Happy Hour is $1 off all beers on tap, wine, and margaritas, as well as $1 off each taco. There were an abundant amount of choices of tacos on the menu, but not much of anything else. Just a couple apps and desserts. I personally tried the Carne Asada and the Thai Shrimp tacos. Carne Asada was a little more dry than I would want but it was ok. The Thai Shrimp was delicious and had just enough kick to it. Some friends commented that the Duck was amazing, as well as the Korean. They also have Bison, Ahi Tuna etc etc. I love that they have such an eclectic variety of tacos to choose from. Beers were fresh. Atmosphere pretty inviting. Will definitely go back to try some different things!

First we have a celiac 3 year old so I was sad to find out they don't have a dedicated fryer so he couldn't have any chips or tacos. They did answer all allergy/spice questions with knowledge and care. They made him a special bowl of plain chicken. My margarita was good but a little too sweet, my husband's with cranberry was perfect. The chicken taco was good but also on the sweet side. Carne asada, mahi and ahi were great. The kimchi taco was too spicy for me (I like things very mild) but very flavorful and my husband loved it. He declared the bison the best of the tacos and the Thai shrimp too hot. Service was really attentive and our waiter even chased us down on the sidewalk to hand us a toy our 3 year old left at the table.

No es bueno. It took forever for this place to open, and when it did, I left extremely disappointed. The place is clean, looks decent, and the staff was friendly. But the food...oh the food. There were 3 of us that went and we all had the same opinion. We don't get it. Little taco things, unidentifiable as tacos, with some over aggressive flavor pairings...and done poorly on top of that. The fish tacos were just off. The chorizo and egg, the worst of the bunch, and what the heck was that smell wafting off that thing? Please guys, try to get it right. You're new, do not put out crap food and try to survive off the atmosphere. We will try it again in November and check for food quality improvement.

Friday night with Friends. You can tell this is a relatively new restaurant, but the overall the atmosphere, food and experience was great. This is what eating out should be, fun and adventurous and not boring. Everything we tried was tasty and scrumptious. From the free chips & salsa, to Kimchi Tacos, Ahi Tacos, Quesadillas, Grilled Mahi Tacos and Bison Tacos and the Z dessert. Food was a unique blend of flavors for people that like food. Don't go there if you don't like a lot of different flavors or want meatloaf and potatoes. If you do, they have quesadillas. A lot of folks complained about the noise. It was average, maybe a little louder. Then overhead music wasn't loud, the place is small, so you can hear lots of chatter. After all, it is a public restaurant. The staff was extremely friendly and personable. I will definitely be back.

I'll give it a 2 for atmosphere but I did not care for the food or service at all. The waiter was very nice and got us our chips and salsa right away but we waited for our drinks for a little longer than I would have expected. The chips tasted stale and store bought and the salsa was runny. We ordered guacamole as well and I wasn't impressed at all. No flavor. Then the tacos....I ordered the Santa fe pork and the BBQ chicken. First I tried the pork. Way too dry and the pineapple was overpowering. Next was the BBQ chicken. The so called BBQ sauce tasted like ketchup. The tortilla shells were chewy and just all around gross. I also ordered a side of the black beans and corn. All I tasted was salt. Oh! Not to mention the server forgot I ordered the side. And the drinks. We both got mojitos. Bleh! No thanks. I'll pass on this place and go to el cactus down the street. Way better.

Interesting choices on this menu. This is not, strictly speaking, Mexican food. The options of tacos are a sort of modern Mex fused with other styles. I ordered a beef kemchi taco, an ahi tuna taco, and a mahi mahi taco. They were all delicious.

The decor in this restaurant is outstanding, but unfortunately this is the restaurant's best attribute. The food was not bad, but it wasn't the greatest either. I wish there was something more than tacos on the menu. There weren't a lot to choose from. The tacos were just okay. I wasn't impressed in the least. I've had better tacos at other establishments. They also didn't have many drinks on draft and the one drink I did order was definitely not up to the proper temperature. It was acually a little warm. The service was blah. The staff was nice, but there is definitely room for improvement. One thing that annoyed me tremendously was that our appetizers and entrees came out at the same exact time. I hate when that happens. I wish the waiter would have waited to put the entrée order in after we were about done with our appetizer. I mean it doesn't take long to make a taco. Overall this place was just blah. I originally thought that this place was gonna be tough competition to El Cactus down the block, but I can safely say they have nothing to worry about. This place may be worth going to once, but only once.

Quaint place with comfortable atmosphere. The food variety is limited, but what they offer is good quality and well prepared. Its a casual setting and the staff is friendly and accommodating. It offers a nice alternative to Old Town if you are in the mood for something different. Id like to see a greater selection of beer. They defiantly have a lot of room to expand as far as that's concerned. Overall a pleasant experience.

This place was GREAT! Cute little joint with cheap, GOOD food. The tacos don't fall apart because they double up the tortillas and if you go before 4 p.m., everything is a dollar off. Not sure if they still do the dollar off or not, but regardless, the most you'll pay for a taco is $3 or $4. Not too bad for a quick lunch in the middle of town. No, they don't have special fryers for your children's allergies- but I wouldn't anticipate most taqueria's having those anyway. Fun, little find that's definitely good for a shot of tequila and a taco.

So happy to see a place like this in Old Towne. The food was deceptively filling. My husband and I each had two tacos and we thought for sure we'd need to order more. We were both wrong (shocking for my husband who sometimes devours a chipotle burrito and still "feels hungry"). We had the tempura shrimp, fajita, carne asada, and bison tacos. We also had a side of guacamole and the flour-less chocolate torte. We enjoyed every last bite and the bottomless chip bowl kept us happy all night. The service was great and the atmosphere had a nice downtown "big city" feel to it. The server mentioned that a possible outdoor alley bar may be opening soon, complete with Italian lights and a tiki bar! I hope they're able to work that out!

My wife and I visited Zandra's Monday evening. We had never been there before and were quite surprised. For casual dining, a large variety of delicious tacos and really tasty salads, Zandra's is a great choice. I had the bison taco salad and it was extremely good. My wife had the black bean chilli with a seafood taco and both items were quite good. The waitress was courteous and professional yet personable. We will definitely eat there again soon.

The positives: The atmosphere is nice, and the service was friendly and attentive. The negative: The food just isn't very good. The guacamole was obviously store bought - "wholly guacamole" brand, or the like. Chips were served warm, but obviously not made in house. The salsa was not bad. We tried 8 different tacos; none made us say, "yeah, that was really good." The BLT taco was the best one on my plate. The menu pretentiously calls it "pork belly," but it is just ordinary bacon. My son said the bison taco was pretty good. The bottom line: This place is trying to be the Mexican equivalent of Monza, which we like, and we really wanted to like this place. If you want to go grab a couple pints after work with friends, then have a taco to soak up some of the alcohol, you will probably like this place. If you want really good food, or authentic Mexican or tex-mex food, you will be disappointed. I understand that this is supposed to be the trendy new food truck / fusion cuisine where anything goes, and the menu does say all the right things in that regard, but the kitchen just doesn't deliver. What you actually get is not as good as the menu makes it sound.

We live right outside old town and stopped in for the first time on Father's Day with my in laws. I am not a big Mexican food eater, needless to say they conned me into going and I wasn't disappointed. The queso was amazing and the quesadillas were fresh and tasted great too. My in laws and husband were super impressed with their tacos. They gave it two thumbs up and talked about eating there again next time they visit!!

This place was much better the first time though it seems they have added a very tasty tomatillo sauce to their chips and salsa basket. The meat quality of the tacos was not as great as when we visited back in November. Carne Asada was no bueno. The tequila mockingbird is excellent! We will come back. Zandra's has potential, lots of potential, but thus far it's unrealized. Zandra's is located next to Okra's on the busy, main thoroughfare of Old Town Manassas. This is a great location, and even while my guest and I were dining at 4:30 on a Wednesday, there was healthy eyeball interest from passers by. The restaurant is small but comfy; in fact, this is the kind of restaurant you want to be small. A great little bar, good, authentic, city-like ambiance and the "little treasure we Manassas folk can call our own" feel. The decor is perfect. You can close your eyes and be in a bustling city nook instantly. The service was great. Our waitress was casual, punctual and fun. She asked us which tacos were our favorites, didn't bug us and was prompt returning our check. Flawless! Zandra's gets a big one-up for free chips and salsa. At little privately owned, non-chain places like this, free amenities are a big deal. The salsa and chips were good, though probably not home made. Not cantina style salsa if that's your thing, but thicker, a little spicier and with veggies. Yum Thus, we come to the food. Sadly, this is where Zandra's didn't hold up, which is a shame because really the food is what would bring me back. The taco selection was eclectic to say the least (bison, kimchi, fish? Neat!), but it just didn't deliver in the quality department. My kimchi taco did not have real kimchi on it- it was Agar seaweed (gelatin seaweed) with cabbage and hotsauce. A native Korean would be ashamed. The other three we ordered were better, but not mind blowing. Thankfully, the price is right. The tacos are just a tad small, but for $4 a piece, I can tolerate that. We got away with a $13 bill for 4 tacos, water and chips and salsa, so no complaints there. I'd prefer to pay $5 a taco and have much, much better tacos, though. I can envision Zandra's becoming a successful, bustling bar with an awesome taco menu and spicy-cool salsa music, but they've got to get their tacos down first. Zandra's, get your food up to par so I can give you the four or five stars you deserve!

The other day I brought a few girlfriends to what is now my favorite restaurant and for the first time ever this place was completely packed. I just wanted to hugely compliment Hillary, the manager. Apparently some issues were occurring in the kitchen and there was a huge back up of orders. We came, ate a few baskets of chips (and incredible guacamole) and drank some wine... Eventually ordered our food... And waited for about 45 mins before finally canceling our order (we were full off of the chips and wine haha). So why 5 stars still? Mind you this is my 9th time here in the last two months, and this type of service has never EVER occurred before. But I was just so impressed with how Hillary handled the situation. She was extremely apologetic, comped our drinks, took the time to explain the situation, and continued to check up on us during, what I know, was probably a really stressful situation. She handled it all so professionally and I just wanted to stress how impressive it was. So although the situation itself was really disappointing, I just wanted to reiterate how much I love this place!

We visited on a Sunday evening. We were immediately greeted and given a selection of tables. Started with a house margarita, which was good and given chips and salsa. The salsa was bland - nothing exciting. We started with loaded nacho platter with shrimp added, which was good, but the cheese was not hot when it was delivered to our table. We each had several tacos - my favorite was the shrimp tempura taco - I also had the barbecue pork taco. We definitely will be back to try a few more of the items on the menu.

My wife and I had dinner here on Sunday evening. Most of the tables were filled and the bar seats were empty. A mix between old and new decor makes it very interesting. A small selection of draft beer aside from the regulars. I had a Devil's Backbone 8 point IPA. The chips and salsa were brought with the drinks. I was a little disappointed that the chips are not homemade and the salsa seems that it is also not homemade but they add a few sprinkles of tomatoes and green onions to help cover that up. We ordered medium buffalo wings and the server stated they take a little longer to fix because they are freshly made. We could definitely tell they were not frozen wings. For tacos we had carne asada, chorizo, kimchi, and grilled mahi mahi. Carne asada was very good. Chorizo was very good and what we thought to be very authentic Central American type chorizo. If I get it again I would go without the ranch type sauce on top but the runny egg yolk made it perfect. The kimchi taco was my least favorite. I love Korean kimchi but this taco did not have any kimchi flavor in it. The seaweed salad on top was good but the meat marinade made it taste very strong. Just not a good mix of flavors. The grilled mahi mahi was a bit flavorless because it was very overcooked. The pineapple salsa on top was very good. Service was excellent. Our server was very passionate about the freshness of the wings and checked several times if we were happy with our meals. We felt the prices were a little higher than they should have been. I understand that the place is in downtown and you have to pay for that atmosphere but it is not Alexandria or Arlington. The different types of meats are interesting but not enough to keep me from going to the taco trucks right down the street for about half the price. Overall, a very good dinner and we enjoyed ourselves. We will return during happy hour prices only.

I have gone here numerous times. Pleased with all outings with friends and family. My only main concern is the kimchi tacos. They have changed every visit and not for the better. They used have have great bulgogi with kimchi and pickled seaweed(sooo good together.) each visit one ingredient changes. I recently on 12-26-14 took a good friend there to try the kimchi tacos I rave about. Him being half Korean meant It would be a tough judge. Well this time the kimchi was just plain cabbage with some sauce and the beef was no where near bulgogi and where is the pickled seaweed. My other tacos were great the one that stole my heart no longer has the magic. If they bring it back to standards this review would be 5 stars.

Had dinner there a couple months ago. The service was just okay...the server took a while to get to us and to return to us. The food was 2 stars as most had no flavor. The saving grace was the corn tortillas (which I don't think you can mess up) and the chips and salsa (which I also don't think you can mess up) I got two tacos the first taco had no flavor. The second one I took one bite and was done. It tasted like pure mayonnaise. It was drenched in it. It was supposed to have "coleslaw" on it. Probably one of the worst things I've ever eaten in my life to be honest. I love unique taco places and have been to many in my travels this was the worst out of all states and places I have been. I wish this place was better since it's not too far from me. I saw a lot of others said the food was flavorless too so I hope they get a good chef in there and make some changes quick...before they go out of business.

The tacos are fantastic. Recently had the Earlier Riser, the chizzo with an egg, and the Mahi. All of them were delicious. The bar is good and the ambience is refreshing for old town Manassas. They could improve the guacamole and the chips.

Zandra's soft opening last week found me walking out the door wishing I had more time on my hands to sit back and enjoy. What used to be a dank and sketchy looking Thai restaurant is now an open and welcoming taqueria with amber and honey toned wood interiors and painted decorations. My group sat down, and perused the menu over a plate of chips and salsa, and bison taquitos. The chips were fresh, and light with a satisfying crunch and the salsa had an underlying smokiness. The taquitos were different - instead of a tortilla casing, the exterior was a thin and crispy wrapper much akin to a wanton. The lightness was refreshing, as was the fact that the taquitos were not greasy/oily. The light wrapper made the flavor of the bison stand out, and complimented the meatiness. We all ordered the duck taco, and one other. The duck was great! The meat itself was melt-in-your-mouth-delicious and was paired with an apple chutney with flavors reminiscent of Mott's cinnamon apple sauce. The sweetness of the apples paired with the tender duck was brilliant. My only disappointment was that texturally it fell flat. Some crunchy duck skin, or crisp apple shavings would have really made this stand out. My second taco was the Santa Fe Pork, containing smoked pork and a pineapple salsa. Again, the flavors were spot on. These guys know how to cook tender and flavor packed meat. I am conflicted about the tacos here. I am a huge fan of hard shelled tacos, and as best I can tell, Zandra's only has street style tacos. That said, with flavors as good as what is currently being served, I think I can handle the soft shell. If i'd had more time, I would have ordered the fried icecream. I'll be back, this place promises too many good things to come. One visit will not suffice.

Refreshing take on tacos! A nice change from the soggy generic slop most Mexican places offer. I love when restaurants think outside the box on flavor. And they aren't afraid or apologetic of spice. I love spicy but some of their tacos are HOT. Take heed if the staff warns you of heat. Staff was knowledge and seemed to loved their jobs.

The roasted duck taco and bison tacos are ridiculous. Highly recommend. Bartenders make really good drinks (Cosmos and old fashioneds). Wine and beer on tap. Great place and will definitely be back!

Very impressed. We just recently moved from Rosslyn and are always looking for unique neighborhood restaurants. We were very impressed with the food and atmosphere. We had the duck, BBQ chicken, tempura shrimp and kimchi tacos...all delish. Also tried the sides of corn, rice and beans and were very impressed. We had our 14 month old son with us and it didn't seem like an ideal place for him, but the waiter was very accommodating with a side of chicken, etc. We are excited to return for drinks and dinner. It was a Monday night during our first visit and the bar was full, along with a few tables in the dining room.

Tried Zandra's last night for the first time. I found the menu inviting, at almost $4 a taco i was expecting some suculant flavors, and was not disappointed. Tried 4 not a dud in them. This review needs to be broken into two parts; the food and the service. First, the good news. The tacos are really good and there is a pretty good variety so that everyone should be able to find a few choices that they will like. Now, the bad news, the service Our party of eight arrived at about 11:40 on a Friday afternoon and there was only one other table occupied when we arrived. Within about 20 minutes or so the place was packed. We felt we were lucky since we had gotten our order in before the place had become really crowded. We ordered our food and then enjoyed the free chips and salsa and waited...and waited...and waited. At one point we looked around the restaurant and although every table was full, not a single person was actually eating an entree. Our entrees finally started being delivered to the table about 45 minutes after we had ordered which was bad enough. But what made it worse was that from the time the first entree was brought to the table to the time the last member of our party received food was almost 15 minutes. By the time he got his food, 3/4 of the table was already done eating. The waitress never really seemed all too concerned or alarmed about any of this and never even offered refills of the chips and salsa as we waited. This is the second time I've been here and the wait time from the time we ordered to the time we received our food was just too long both times. The first time was only 4 of us so I can't even blame it on being a large party. If you are looking for a leisurely meal and have nowhere else to be, I'd recommend this place because the food is pretty good. But if you're going out to eat with any sort of time restraints I'd look elsewhere.

Small, authentic taco place in the middle of old town. We ordered the nachos (wonderful!) and three tacos.. The bison without the cheese sauce, the santa fe pork and the bbq chicken. The bison was our favorite! I'm glad we didn't get the cheese sauce because it seems like it would have taken away from the flavor. The santa fe was good as well, with a kick. The bbq chicken was our second favorite .. It had a creamy like sauce that gave it some punch! We also got the fried ice cream with caramel sauce and plantains.. Amazing! We went on a Tuesday, early evening and the place was pretty packed. There were only two tables available when we got there. Full bar as well. There were several groups that walked in and walked out because there was no place to sit. The few people that did wait to be seated waited for a few minutes to be greeted.. There seemed to be only two servers and a bar tender. Overall good experience and would definitely go back - there's no place like it nearby.

This is a neat taco place. Both the indoors and outdoors were clean. Love sitting in the alley outside since it's shaded. The chips and salsa were really good, you can tell they made their salsa fresh! The house margaritas were smooth and pretty inexpensive. They make their own house margarita mix! All the tacos I've tried here are delicious!! I love the tempura shrimp, beer battered mahi mahi (even though these didn't have a "chili pepper," on the menu they had a little kick), and grilled fish tacos. The honey habanero shrimp and ghost pepper chorizo were listed as the hottest on the menu and they were absolutely amazing, very spicy though!! Come here before 4pm and get $1 off each taco.

I came with 6 co-workers during our lunch break at about 11:30, so right when they opened, and let me tell you they got packed SOON. The restaurant is small and the tables in the middle are hightops with benches without backs. The staff pushed 2 tables together so we could be seated together. As soon as we were seated we were given comp chips and salsa along with our water. I like that they leave the jug of water on the table for us to refill as needed; it's less work for the waitresses and we don't have to flag them down. I added some of the hot sauces on the table to the salsa and it was SO good and flavorful, I would def add more cilantro and onion to it though, but hey it's free and if it's free, it's for me. The chips were also the thin kind, so it was hard to scoop the salsa. Tacos are a la carte, so you can mix and match the diff combos you would like. I ordered the Cuban, Ahi Tuna, and Bison taco. I think the Ahi Tuna was my fave (well I haven't had the bison yet, I was full because...free chips and salsa + greedy). They're served traditional style in corn tortillas and they give the option to have flour tortillas instead. The waitress didn't mention that it would be extra, but I believe I saw that on Yelp somewhere. Also, each taco is $1 off before 4pm. They have daily specials on drinks...let's see what I can remember, because I didn't take a pic: Wine-O-Wednesdays is $2 tap wine, Frozen Fridays is $5 frozen drinks, and Sangria Sundays I think is 1L of sangria for $25. This is from memory, so don't shoot me if I'm a little off. These were some good craft tacos I must say, I will definitely be returning. So thank you to Zandra's for making me look like a "Food Savant" (as my coworker calls me) and offering up great food for my coworkers and myself.

Tacos, beer and mojitos. What more needs be said? I recently had the Carne Asada taco with gorgonzola on it. Not a real Hispanic combo, but the flavors worked well. Everyone at the table ordered a different taco and all said they were excellent. Our only issue was the price. I've been to taquerias where for about $1 more you got two tacos and a side. Even though they are a bit on the pricy side, I'll still go back. The staff is wonderful and they do keep the chips and homemade salsa coming.

definitely just good. Went with the husband and kids for dinner. Chips are good and plentiful and the queso (with added chorizo) was the absolute best part of the meal. Our server was very kind, but not overly personable. The food was good, but I definitely believe it to be over priced, in that all tacos are a la carte with the only sides being chips. The prices for tacos range from around $3-$5 each and It's $2 for each serving of corn, rice or beans that you want. The husband and kids each ordered two different tacos and I ordered 1- and a side of corn. I'd like to say that while the corn was good, it was just that, corn. There was absolutely nothing special about it, and while the server claims it was just corn cut off the cob, I highly doubt that, because all the kernels were perfect and it was in a puddle of corn water. I can buy a whole can of corn or two for the $2 I paid for less than 1/4 cup of watery, unseasoned corn that I got as my side dish. I need to remember that taste and spice tolerance is subjective, but while the spice level is listed on the menu, I asked my server how bad the honey shrimp habanero taco really was. Her answer was that it wasn't horrible, and that it isn't burn your lips spicy, that there's just a good flavor. So, I ordered it. Well, her lips must be less sensitive than mine, because that's exactly how I'd explain it- it was burn my lips spicy. I couldn't taste any flavor at all because the spice burned my lips and mouth and tongue. Granted it claims spicy on the menu, but the server testified that it's not... I respectfully disagree with her. All in all, I feel that it was over priced for 7 tacos and a queso appetizer. The only outstanding part of the meal being the queso. I'm not quite sure we'll return,and if we did, it just may be for an appetizer or two.

Made a return trip here yesterday. It had a decent share of customers in there on a Monday at 2. But we were seated right away. I am pleased to up the rating to 5 from 4 thanks to the improvements that seem to have been made. We ordered their supreme nachos for our first time. Very yummy! I am already craving them again! We also ordered their ghost pepper salsa which is a must in my opinion! Wonderful smokiness to that salsa. I ordered the carne asada and the mahi mahi tacos. Last time we came we enjoyed it but felt like the tacos were all tortilla and needed much more filling. Well I am pleased to say they have improved on this and they are perfect now! You don't even know how happy I am to say I now have a great taco place some what near home with fair portions at fair prices! This was my first time having the carne asada. I didn't love the Gorgonzola cheese on it, but my husband did. I'm just not a fan of sharp cheeses but I wanted to try it. But the taco was very yummy and I would certainly get that again, just with out the cheese, but that's just me. The meat was amazingly tender and flavorful. Great fast service. Highly recommend this place and we look forward to coming back!

Since my previous experience, I have been back to Zandra's several times. As always, the food is excellent. I've added the habanero shrimp taco to one of my favorites (caution it is pretty spicy!). My biggest complaint in my previous review was the stoned out waitress, however, I have had excellent waiters and waitresses since that experience and have left Zandra's full and happy. Definitely put this place on your "to-go" list in Manassas!

Zandras is back up to quality. I had the mahi, fish n chips, and chorizo tacos. Both fried fish tacos were excellent. The fish n chips one was exceptionally good and creative. This is one of the best avant garde tacos I have had. One change from last visit, the tacos are absolutely loaded with meat. Also, they had Old Bust Head Gold Cup stout on Nitro. The flavors on the well filled tacos were there on this visit, and Zandras delivered on the value side. We will add this place back to the Manassas restaurant rotation.

Finally made it out to Zandra's last night!! I've wanted to go since the recent opening and hadn't had the chance so when my sister suggested we go after a night of shopping, I was more than willing. Inside is small and cozy. Just a few regular tables, the majority of the seating being high tops and bar stools. There is a combination of backless and regular bar stools. I am not a fan of sitting in uncomfortable backless chairs while dining... they could do without these. The floor in the dining area is awesome. It's a combination of light and dark wood planks and it became a conversation piece between my sister and me over dinner. I love the combination of dark woods with the splash of red. I also really love the sugar skulls decorating the bar. I appreciate the free chips and salsa. The chips were fresh and warm, I didn't notice any of the staleness other Yelpers have mentioned. I am not a huge tomato fan, so I am probably not the best person to weigh in on the salsa. I did taste it, seemed okay to me. They also included a green salsa which I am assuming was tomatillo. This version I loved and I thought it had just the right amount of tang and kick. My sister ordered guacamole. I wasn't blown away. As others mentioned, its avocado and tomatoes. Not much else. There really isn't any flavor or citrus acid here. It wasn't bad, it was just bland. My stick figure sister ordered a salad. She enjoyed it. It was served in an edible shell bowl and she ate the whole thing. It appeared to be pretty fresh. I ordered two tacos. I am so happy they are served in corn tortillas. I think they are so much better than the bland flour version. I ordered a carne asada taco that was topped with gorgonzola cheese. I found the taco to be anything but "Mexican", a little slim on the filling, but really really tasty. The steak was very flavorful and cooked well and it worked really well with the corn tortillas. The addition of a sauce of some sorts wouldn't hurt, but overall the taco was pretty delicious. I also ordered the Santa Fe Pork taco which was to die for. The pork was fall apart perfect and had the distinct flavor of smoked plablano peppers. Topped with lime and a fresh pineapple salsa! It was absolutely delicious and filled to the brim. There are many different tacos I need to try, but I certainly see this one being my "go to" on every visit. We also had a few Mojitos. I ordered the Zandra's Mojito first, which is a basic mojito but it's finished off with Prosecco. It was good... a little sweeter. My second and third go rounds were the regular mojito, and I preferred that over the Prosecco addition. I enjoyed my visit to Zandra's and look forward to going back and trying different tacos (and drinks, let's not forget the drinks.). Be in a taco mood if you're headed over here. With the exception of nachos, taquito's and rice and beans... salads and tacos are the soul of this new eatery and that's all you're going to find.

I had such high hopes....3 stars only because this area is notorious for bad Mexican-ish food. If we were in CA I'd ask for my money back. But, that's just the snob in me talking....here are the facts: Ahi cooked well done. As in, to death. Kinda grey instead of that pretty red. Terrible. Shameful. Wtf. Sauce was tasty. Iceberg lettuce in the tacos. No, really. I know. I was shocked too. Guacamole had mayo or something in it. Idk...creamy and kinda had a flavor that was suspicious. Way too bland. At least the tortillas weren't raw. Mediocre food, at best. Price was a bit high for over-cooked ahi and creamy guac. Decor was nice. I'd come back for drinks and maybe the salsa verde.

I've stumbled across some street taco's at other establishments and they've quickly grown on me. This restaurant clearly was right up my street when it came to try something new. I wasn't too thrilled upon leaving. The inside of the restaurant is new and modern, very pleasant. We were asked if we'd like to sit outside (gorgeous night) and we quickly said yes. Having looked back, I wasn't quite sure where we'd be seated along this street. It was a Saturday and other restaurants nearby were packed outside... but we were effectively seated in an alleyway were the staff come and go to/from work. It was just odd... not totally unacceptable, but not at all what I was expecting by outside seating. Food was nearly all the same flavor profile. I had the bison, the Greek, and beer battered fish. I promise you, besides the hint of tzatziki in the Greek, I just couldn't get a definitive flavor or taste from either of the three. If I go again, without question I'll get the flour tortilla as the corn was too tough. It really ruined the overall taste and didn't flow well with the ingredients it held. Service was fine and attentive. The guacamole was pretty good and you had a choice of a few salsas with your chips for just $0.50 extra if you prefer, ranging from sweet to hot. With other very high quality establishments nearby (and I mean very close), it'll be hard to return here soon.

They have the best gourmet Taco's - I'll come here anytime! Not only is it a nice place, it's also a great addition to old town. The food is excellent and the price is right! It has become our family favorite and have recommended it to my friends. Please try it and you'll be glad you did!

These are the best, most creative tacos I've ever had in my entire 31 years of living. There is a nice charm about the inside of the place - the staff is friendly, accommodating and attentive. I ordered a tempura shrimp and a chicken bacon ranch with flour tortillas. My husband had two fried mahi tacos with corn tortillas. The chips could've used salt as they were completely unsalted. The tempura shrimp tacos had the best chili sauce that was so perfectly balanced between sweet and spicy, the shrimp was coated to perfection in tempura fried goodness. The b/c/r was chock full of crispy bacon, just enough ranch, and moist, shredded chicken. I can't vouch for the mahi tacos but they looked excellent. The only slight problem was that the flour tortillas were on the hard side - not completely hard but not as soft as if think soft shell tacos should be. I will certainly be back here (probably sans child though) in the future. The place isn't set up to comfortably accommodate kids, but not every place is a kid's restaurant so that's understandable. There were quite a few children there when we were there, but the majority of seating is at high top tables.

A nice take on "gourmet" tacos. Lots of creative choices on the rotating menu (I particularly liked the chorizo/fried egg), good beer selection, and a comfortable - if a little noisy - atmosphere. I haven't had anything here I didn't like. The wait staff has been solid, as well, but it does get pretty busy on weekend nights.

I ordered another taco but can't seem to remember it after tasting the Bison one. So I reckon, try the Bison taco!

We saw this place a few weeks ago and decided to drop in today. I had the grilled fish, honey habanero shrimp, and the carne asada taco. I enjoyed the fish and carne asada a lot. They both had a lot of flavor. I added the roasted ghost pepper salsa to the carne asada for a bit more heat and with the Gorgonzola cheese it was perfect. I was not to crazy about the honey habanero shrimp. I felt there was a lot of tortilla compared to everything inside and the flavors were not quite there. I definitely look forward to trying more of their tacos!

Eh. Best parts were the cute waiter and unlimited chips & salsa. Waited more than 30 mins because they were clearly understaffed. Mediocre tacos... Especially for the price ($4-5 for one freaking taco)!! The side was also a joke. I ordered corns thinking it would be some seasoned yummy corns but nooo... Just corn. Yup. I'd rather go to chipotle for tacos and I don't even get tacos at chipotle. 3 stars but wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.

What a cute restaurant, we walked in and sat at a high top table. The waitress was really friendly and helpful with the menu choices. We ordered 4 different kinds of tacos Cuban, tempura shrimp bacon ranch chicken and mahi mahi. The tacos were great. We also had fresh salsa and chips, we ordered a little bit hotter salsa. The biggest surprise was the wine on tap, nice touch but we decided to have Mojitos, great choice!!!!! The extent of their liquor choices is great...

I was not expecting much though I had heard wonderful things about Zandra's. Couldn't figure out how a taco place could really be all that (and I love taco's) but Zandra's managed to surprise me. A nice fun clean atmosphere, good service plus the tacos were creative. I shared 5 with a friend. The Cuban was my definite favorite and the one highly recommended by the waiter. We also had a spicy shrimp taco that the waiter warned was hot. Listen to your waiter! It was hot. Bringing my sons in to try that one. Also recommend going in before 4pm for the $1 off each taco. Great deal!

The bf & I got here around 9:40 on a Saturday night and were pleasantly surprised by the live band. Since the place is small it is a little loud but it added to the atmosphere. Nice little spot. Definitely would come back again. We tried several different tacos and shared them between one another. Below is our rating... 1. Went for the second time, meh. The salsa still has a canned taste & the tacos were ok. I would say it's at least got a fun atmosphere to go have drinks, but WOW was our server slow on drink refills & WOW did those happy hour margaritas taste like they had just a dash of alcohol. Disappointing....

Not sure why they have such high reviews. A gift card brought me here for the first time. Place looks cool. I came in and just sat myself since no one was there to greet you. Sat for about 10 minutes and no one came to see us. This was a Tuesday night so it was not that busy, what would a Sat night be like? I went to the bartender and asked for a menu and ordered drinks. We ordered taquitos which were not made with corn tortillas and she is Gluten Free so she couldn't eat them. Almost like a rice flour thing but they were amazing. Got a side of the rice and beans and they were great! Wow good job. Then to be let down by we ordered the expensive supreme nacho and that was just chips, nacho cheese (not real cheese) and a little salsa. Seriously! Not supreme at all. That was the worst money I ever spent. I wanted to talk to the chef. If he just did chips, real cheese and put their rice and beans on top with guacamole it would be amazing. How hard would that be? I will probably try this place out again to try the tacos and to enjoy the rice and beans. But I can only hope I have a better experience or I will be back to Monza which is always amazing.

A friend and I stopped in to this place on a brief visit to the area. We chose this restaurant on a whim and were not disapointed. The decor and general feel of this place was very nice and trendy-ish. We sat by a large window and the place seemed very clean. They were kind of busy but service was friendly, attentive, and informal. Location was convenient. Chips and salsa came to the table quickly and we really enjoyed the salsa. The tacos were the normal size for this type of restaurant and were so tasty! There were two vegetarian options and I had one of each. There was a fried tomatillo one and a grilled veggie one. Each had a great sauce. The restaurant also has a selection of rums and tequila but we didn't have any. All in all we were satisfied and would come here again.

Awesome little place in Manassas. I ordered the beer battered mahi mahi taco and the fried green tomato taco. Both were AMAZING! The selection on the menu was very interesting and I will definitely go back! The grape and the cherry Mojitos were awesome! Loved the old school eclectic environment and the staff was very friendly.

Excellent place for individuals or groups. I met some friends but they needed to leave before I was done, and I never felt uncomfortable. In fact, the owner introduced himself and welcomed me personally! My server, Angie, is witty and hilarious and stayed right on top of refilling my drinks, asking about my food and inquiring often if there was anything else she could get me. I'm thrilled with my first experience, and guarantee it is the first of many to come!

Wonderfully inventive tacos with high quality ingredients at a normal taco price. I highly recommend this little gem in Old Town Manassas. My two friends and I, who all have very different food preferences, found plenty of options to satisfy all of us. Not just satisfy, we raved about how flavorful and delicious all of the tacos were. Options range from a bison taco to barbecue tacos to plenty of seafood options, for the vegetarians and vegans. My favorite was the Ahi tuna taco. And don't leave without ordering dessert. The fried ice cream puts the rest of the fried ice cream you've ever had to shame. If you're in the mood to be less adventurous, the donuts with their delicious raspberry sauce are an undeniable favorite.

I went here last night on a whim with my best friend. I live right down the street but never stopped in. I'm so glad we did ! The tacos were awesome and I really loved the whole feel of the restaurant, you can tell the owners really took the time to make it their own and added little details to make the place unique. Our server was awesome, I wish I would have gotten her name ! When we told her that it was our first time she told us everything we needed to know. The tacos are a la carte, 3 or 4 bucks a taco, depending on what tacos you get, but I will say that the tacos are COMPLETELY worth it ! Best tacos I've had in a really really long time. I ordered the bison and the mahi mahi and after inhaling those, I ordered another mahi mahi taco. Out of this world good. My friend ordered their Sante Fe taco and it looked delicious. The chips and salsa were on point too. Next time I'm deff going to try there wine on tap, never heard of that before so I'm really interested in trying it. Highly recommended coming here ! Ate here a few weeks ago. Tacos are just mediocre and really pricey for the amount of contents inside. I ordered the fish and chips taco and the fish was partially cold inside! The chips were more like VERY finely shredded potato sticks that added no flavor value. The chorizo taco looked like it was also undercooked. Overall flavorless experience. Oh and the salsa tasted way too sweet and as if they poured it straight from a bottle. Definitely not fresh!

My husband and I stopped in two weeks ago on a Saturday night and really enjoyed ourselves. My sangria was strong just the way I like it and the salsa is absolutely to die for! My husband is really picky about guacamole so the waitress brought him a small sample and it knocked our socks off! To be honest I don't normally even like guac, but this was super good and fresh tasting, so we ordered a side and were very pleased. My husband loved his tacos, and mine were good but a bit spicier than I was expecting. Next time I'll just try a different kind! The live music was also a big plus.

Eclectic / funky atmosphere, good food, huge selection of tequilas / beers / tacos. Attentive staff. They're also great supporters of local musicians. It's a small space that can get very crowded and noisy (doesn't bother me - just fyi, in case that's not your thing).

This place is fantastic!!! It's adorable inside, friendly staff, and super clean! The food is delicious! I will say, if you're looking for traditional Mexican food, this isn't it. ITS BETTER!! I recommend the chicken nachos, the queso, or one of many delicious tacos.. My favorites are the BLT, shrimp tempura, and carne asada! They have allllllll the rum and tequila you could ask for, AND multiple delicious craft beers, wine ON TAP, and frozen drinks like piña coladas. GIVE THIS PLACE A TRY!! One of the top 3 places in Old Town Manassas!! Check them out!!

We've been twice now, and had a great experience both times. Our server (Angie...ask for her! She's awesome) was very knowledgeable, attentive, and personable. You will get free chips and salsa, but I recommend adding an order of the queso. It's tremendous. I've tried a couple different tacos, but the BBQ chicken are my favorite. They are not huge (and about three bucks each), but have high-quality, fresh ingredients. Two or three should fill you up (taking into account the free chips). We added on an order of fried ice cream - such a beautiful, delicious dessert. They have a full bar, and tacos are a dollar off before 7 p.m.

Been here a few times and it's def a place we like to go to. Everything is super yummy! Bison is off the hook! Shrimp tempura taco is out of this world! Literally, EVERYTHING is good!!! Love that you can order one taco...then you get to try so many different kinds! Really, can't wait to go back :-)

We had the guacamole it was very good. The tacos were also very good. I had the chorizo and egg and the grilled fish both very flavorful. My wife had the veggie and BBQ chicken which were also very good. My son had the carne asada quesadilla which was great, but here is my first complaint the price was too high. $11 for a quesadilla and my son asked for a 2nd. Overall we rather enjoyed our experience but in the end I believe $11 quesadillas and $2.50 kids sized lemonade stand are too high.

Zandra's Taqueria seems to have great motivation but poor execution. The most positive comment I can make is that the tacos actually have pretty good variety and flavor. The dismissive thoughts I have about this Mexican restaurant in Old Town Manassas outweigh the few positives though. It's best to be in list form: 1. The menus are enormous, it may sound petty, but why are the menus nearly half the size of the table? They don't need to be movie poster size. It was distracting and hard for us to all have them up at the same time and still talk to each other. 2. A trendy, local and independently owned Mexican restaurant serves stale tortilla chips from a bag? That's what they tasted like anyway. I'd love to see some freshly made tortilla chips served. The salsa...confusing, tasted as if there was tomato paste added and oddly thick...not the way a "chunky salsa" would be. Good flavor, but the texture was like a tomato sauce. 3. It was 11:30 a.m. and there was obnoxiously loud and explicit (unedited) music. Not what you'd expect for a family friendly lunch at a Mexican restaurant. If it was Friday at 10:00 p.m., I'd think nothing of it, but we had our 3-year-old with us. 4. Why double up the corn tortillas on the tacos? Corn tortillas are already dry...don't make it worse (and wasteful) by adding two. We both took the 2nd layer off and it tasted much better. 5. The margarita at a Mexican restaurant was not served in a margarita glass...? Also, why is there ice in a margarita...felt like they were just skimping on cost. Just serve a traditional margarita in a margarita glass and I'd be happy. 6. Service was not great. We politely asked our waitress to turn the music down a little or move our table and she agreed to go turn the music down. Music didn't go down, we didn't move tables, and she didn't check back with us until we were done eating. Didn't smile a single time or make sure we were enjoying our food. Also, a small issue, but we asked for salt on our (non)margarita glasses and no salt came. She didn't come back for us to ask for a replacement. I'd love to see another successful restaurant in Old Town Manassas (neighboring Monza and Okra's) but there is a lot to be desired here. The Bison taco, Carne Asada taco and Kimchi taco I tried had great flavor and there are lots of interesting choices on the taco menu...but that's about the best thing I can say about Zandra's. Hope to see some improvement and to come back many times in the future.

If you are looking for authentic Mexican tacos, look elsewhere. These are overly fussed over tacos with weird flavor combinations like a cinnamon - infused sauce on a chorizo and egg taco. That taco came with an egg so runny, the yolk poured out of the taco. How do you mess up a chorizo and egg taco? Stop trying to reinvent the taco and master the basics.

Not impressed--unfortunately. The Supreme Nachos and BBQ Chicken tacos were both fine--nothing outstanding about either one. The Taco Kimchi and Taco Tempura Shrimp were outstanding only because they were surprisingly, uncomfortably hot--in a way that was completely about heat, and little about flavor. When ordering the shrimp, I specifically asked about the spice level--whether it was mild, medium, or really hot. The server said that it was mildly spicy. In fact, both items are very spicy, and since the topic of heat was on the table, it would have been an excellent time for the server to be more forthcoming. At some point during the meal, a gentleman--maybe the manager?--came over to ask how we were enjoying our meal. We shared the above, indicating that since they were currently in the midst of a "soft opening," they might want to alter the menu wording so that future patrons would know about the heat of the two items. That way, folks who like really hot would get that, and folks who don't, would know to choose other items. Apparently, my suggestion went directly over his head. He ended the conversation with: "So glad you enjoyed everything." Errmmm ... but we just told you that we didn't. Sadly, it's unlikely that we will return to Zandra's, although we looked forward to enjoying this offering, which we understand is a partnership between the owners of nearby Okra's and Monza--two great Manassas restaurants.
