Firehouse is our new Go To Sub place. They do not assemble as fast as other sub joints, however they are hot and fresh. The Steak and Cheese, Spicy Meatball, Italian and the Beef Biscuit are all great. Combos run around $10 and include drink and chips.

I came here one day after a doctors appointment with my bestie and immediately fell in love. My girl got the turkey bacon ranch on wheat and I got the light Italian on wheat. We sat inside and ate. They give you a number and call your name when your food is ready. What can I say about my sandwich? The bread was fresh and soft. The meat was perfectly sliced and proportioned. Even though the sandwich was under 500 calories, it was full of flavor and left me wanting more. My friends' sandwich looked delicious and she said it was. I will definitely come back here again!

I am a Hoagie Master. I certified Sub-murai. I can tell you how a hoagie, a submarine, a zep, a grinder and a hero sandwich differ. Even if you are a huge Harry Potter fan and you call it a baguette, I can tell you why. Now more importantly, I can tell you where to go to get a really good Cheesesteak. Do not call it a steak and cheese near me or I'll probably throw you on the grill and smother you with fried onions.....with. *sigh* Now with that being said, Firehouse Subs in Kingstowne makes a decent sub. "Decent, well why the 4 stars Mr. Aaron?", you say. Well, I can comparing them to the rest of the Firehouse Subs on Planet Earth. They are also being compared to Jimmy Johns and Jerry's Subs and Pizza. If you have Sub or sandwich in your name, you are being held to my standards and will go head to head with Firehouse Subs. "What are your standards Mr. Aaron?" Glad you asked. I go by three criteria. Taste, Texture, Time. I call it the Three T's. Or TT's for short. Now I want you to grasp the TT's concept. Grasp them firmly. If the sandwich has great taste, and texture...but it took to much time....it's not a good sandwich. If there I get it quick, and it tastes good, yet falls apart...then it's not a good sandwich. If it holds its structural integrity, didn't take long to get and tastes bad...then it's not a good sandwich and you probably got it from a vending machine. Sandwich is from the latin words Sandus, which means I am in a hurry, and Vicimus meaning throw it between some bread. Firehouse knew this. I was greeted with "Salve mi amici, est tu esurio?" I knew then that we were on the same page. I was hungry and they were my friends now. The sandwich was dine in, and it arrived promptly. It held together.....and it tasted great. The TT's were being devoured and I wanted a nap. "Wow Aaron. That is very informative and entertaining. You are quite good looking too" Thank you and yes....I am. Thanks Firehouse subs. You are Pompei to other sub places who are sub par. *pun intended* or as we say in the hood "intentionale iocus"

My first time at this location. First, I wanted to create my own sub. Ordered a turkey sandwich. They messed it up. I asked for Provolone cheese. No cheese. Asked for Oregano, S&P; none of that. I asked for mustard, nope. The meat was warm, I thought it was a cold sandwich. I decided to visit the l'eau. OMG! A bloody disaster. Urine all over the toilet seat and floor. The entire floor was wet! Oh God please let that be water! I had to clean the toilet seat myself in order to use the toilet. Just nasty! I hope today was just a one off.

The subs here are really good, but a little on the pricey side. The Italian is very flavorful and I highly recommend it. My wife got the the club on the sub. Though it wasn't as good as mine, it was pretty darn good... Those just might have be her exact words. It was a welcome difference from your Subway experience.

I always am pleased with this place. High quality fresh sandwiches, low wait time, friendly staff, and a cool soda machine are all components of this rating. Oh! And by coming here you are contributing to the fire departments. Thumbs up!

Awesome subs. Much better option than Subway Jersey Mike's or Quiznos. Made fresh, hot and with great ingredients. Not sure why but they seem to always forget the pickle on the side which is a shame because it's a great garnish for these meals. This location doesn't seem to be as polished as the others but the food is very good. If they speed up a little and remember to include the pickle this would be five stars.

Their subs are huge and the ingredients look fresh. The steak sandwich is pretty bland, as is the brisket. I ordered a steak sandwich takeout and asked if they had any sauce for it like bbq sauce, steak sauce, etc. They said they didn't but when I went to pick it up, I saw several bottles of A1 sauce. Beats subway but their food is just too bland.

Great place with a nice laid back environment. They have a good assortment of subs and low calorie sandwiches to choose from. I went for the first time the other day and I ordered the steak and cheese. It was okay I just felt like it needed lettuce or tomato or something to give it more girth. It also seemed smaller than other subs I saw so next time I go back I will try a different one. I did like the assortment of hot sauces because I love some spice in my life!

Kind of the worst place to eat. The service was horrible. The people are NOT friendly. The food was bland and dry. I needed more of the bone sucking sauce and it wasn't given to me. So yeah, I'm not coming back here. Only part of the service that made me happy we're Anthony and Ed.

One of the best food options in the Kongstowne Mall area has to be the Fire House Subs, this place puts Subway to shame. Everything from ingredients and service is top notch. I love the fact that they use real ingredients but the price is still affordable. Also, I am a big fan of the hot sauce bar, a feature that allows you to try all different hot sauces and then purchase the one you want afterwards. .. Bring on the fire, boys And finally, they support firemen and you just can't go wrong there

The only Firehouse I've ever been to is here. When you first walk in no matter what time of year it is you'll notice that the air is a little thicker because they have steamers going. Hmmm sweaty sandwiches... At Firehouse they have a menu of regular sandwiches that they then steam before they serve to you. I think that's a thing somewhere - but they should at least tell you before you order like "hey, I'm gonna throw your lunch in a special sandwich sauna real quick, is that cool?" For the most part the sandwiches are pretty good. If I had to have a hot sandwich I prefer the steam method over Subways easy bake oven. This Firehouse always has sports playing on all of the TVs, and the thing I love the most is they have the biggest selection of Mrs. Vickie's Kettle chips I've seen at any place that I go. If you order a drink make sure you get a medium because for some reason their large cups look like buckets! It would be the equivalent to a 7-11 Super Big Gulp. Like I almost called Mayor Bloomberg big.

We were looking for something to eat and stumbled into this amazing find! Was a little skeptical at first but the menu looked great and better non my wallet than jersey mikes. I had the New York steamer sub and it was all kinds of amazing! I dipped it into the Captain Sorensens sauce and I have to say this is one of the best sauce I have ever tasted! My son had the brisket and luved it, momma had a turkey bacon ranch and was very pleased. Yes we will for sure be coming here again!

This was my first time here and I loved it. When I walked in I was greeted by the entire staff. When I went to order the cashier was very friendly. The sub I had was perfect. It was nice and hot, the meat isn't slimy like most sub shops I've been to. The bacon is crispy. They also have a huge selection of hot sauces ranging from mild to very hot. I saw at least 50 different hot sauces to choose from. This location also has two fancy soda machines giving you a large variety of drinks to choose from. The place was also very clean. There was always someone there busing tables or sweeping the floor. Upon exit we were thanked for coming by the staff. Overall: Great staff, clean location, lots of variety for both food and drinks, and awesome subs!!! I will definitely be back!

The family stopped in here after seeing a movie next door. My wife ordered her usual smoked brisket and I tried the Hawaiian pork sandwich, the kids, meatball kids sandwiches. We were all very, very happy. My kids and wife enjoyed tasting mine and I am the one that got my wife hooked on the smoked brisket to begin with. The employees were very polite and I was surprised at how quickly our food was ready considering how busy they were. This may be about 6 miles or so from the house but I see it being a regular location that we hit up. Delicious!

I think there the best sandwich place around good concept and execution missing a star because they have no French fries it would be tight whole local potatoes

Firehouse Subs is a great dining option in the Kingstowne Mall. In my experience, their subs are always hot and made to order and the service is top notch. Plus they have TWO of the fancy soda machines offering every soda under the sun. Like other Firehouse Subs restaurants, there are dozens of hot sauces to choose from offering varying degrees of heat. You can't go wrong at Firehouse.

Boy do I love me some fire house subs!!!! This place is great from the firehouse theme to the many selections of hot sauces lined up from mild to the hottest sauce in the store. Try a 10 if you dare. I usually enjoy the New York steamer or the Italian. Firehouse serving is fast and worth the price. Even if u have a big order they have TVs to watch different types of sports on. Another cool thing firehouse subs has going for then Is. Their multi beverage fountain, there are at least 30 different drinks to select from all in one fountain. This fire house is located near regal cinemas so I love going to dinner and a movie with friends and family.

I think this place is good, just not my cup of tea. The service is fast, the employees are kind and the prices are fair. I think what I ordered was just bad. The meat quality wasn't bad, just a whole ton of mayonnaise was put on my sandwich and it would leak out and became so messy. I might come again to try something else, I never really was a fan of cold cuts though.

Excellent sandwich today at lunchtime, the sriracha beef "light" (small) item. Very tasty, fresh everything. Very clean, friendly and efficient service--they even bring it to your table. Good option, even for those looking for something smaller/lighter--the regular size things are very substantial if you're hungry too. Next time I'm checking out the salads.

I hadn't been to a Firehouse Subs before, so my review is mostly a FYI if you haven't been. All in all, subs are good and ingredients are fresh. Excellent selection of hot sauce and Miss Vickie's chips and they have TWO of the fancy Coke machines. OK so FYI.....all but two subs on the menu are served warm. The meat is steamed and then added to the bread and stuff, so you don't have a crazy overly crunchy/burned sub roll. Things can move a little slow, and I've had a couple issues with not getting exactly what I ordered (not getting mustard/mayo etc.). The one thing other sub shops have I wish they had here was the person walking your sub through the toppings area so you can see what you're getting. They also have limited amount of extras (no pickles, olives, dressing etc.). I will end on a positive note, someone clued them in on how annoying it is when 7 people yell "Welcome to Firehouse!!!!" so they don't do that anymore :)

This place has great subs! We first tried it when we moved into the area and needed something quick to feed a group. Our order was made very quickly, and everything was tasty. The staff here are friendly and fast. It can get a little crowded in here if you eat-in but it's manageable. Will definitely return!

We go here pretty often for lunch. Can't say I've had anything bad. The Italian, The Pulled Pork, the Engineer are all good. Can be packed sometimes, but they usually serve you pretty fast. Good selection of chips and drinks. One of the better lunch options in the area.

I've been in to this location a couple times and have yet to have a bad experience. The people behind the counter are always super friendly with great senses of humor. I like the premise of giving back to firehouses at this chain. Because most firehouses are not paid for by tax money, it's good to support the men and women that help keep people safe. The sandwiches are quite tasty too! My favorite is the Italian sub. While not as spicy as the same named subs you can get at other establishments, this sub is still quite flavorful. If staying in to dine, the meatball is a very close second for me. It is served more "open face" style, and is seriously a work of food art.

Since the demise of Quiznos, which were always loaded with grease anyway, Firehouse remains king of hot sandwich shops. Always hot and made fresh to order, these are the best hot sandwiches you can get. Staff is always friendly and quick. I love walking in and everyone yells "Welcome to Firehouse!"

Get the roast beef or The Hero.... I could eat here every day! Friendly/helpful service and always usually clean. Love this place!

What the hell is wrong with me? Another chain? DC traffic really made me lazy. In all honesty, I had no idea it was a chain when I was "dragged" to a free lunch. My life is so difficult sometimes. Difficulty aside, Firehouse is a pretty damn good place to go for lunch. The ham is so good you'll think you've died and went to heaven. The bread is fresh. The service is fast. My only complaint is all of the employees yelling "welcome to Firehouse!" every time someone walks through the door. Can't you just write that on the front door and shut the hell up? If there are no local sandwhich joints around to support, then head to Firehouse. Just bring some earplugs for your initial entry.

Really not very inspired unless you are looking for overlarge subs. Heaped on with meat, not much in the way of flavor - reminds me a lot of the problem in the sub market today (saturation without thought for how things mesh or how well the sub stays together). On part with, but with less inspiration than, Potbelly's. Not sure how many sub-shops the market will sustain a few years out. Their store was bright and the theme in support of fire-stations is a nice touch. Wouldn't go back. More interesting things in Kingstowne.

Started by firefighters, this place is oozing with testosterone. Not taking away from our wonderful and dedicated female firefighters! We love you! But this place is a man cave and I love it! I always order the meatball sub so I can't speak for the rest of the menu. The meatball sub is soooooo good!! Like it spicy? Try as many of their hot sauces as you'd like! They must have 30-40 on the shelf! Employees try as best they can to greet each customer that enters and I love that! Will keep coming back here.

    (5)
  • Brandon L.

The service here is always good everytime my family and I come in. The employees treat their customers like family. The food here is always fresh and good. They don't take too long to make it either and when there's a problem, they will just make you a new one.

Nice theme. Adequate menu selection. One order was wrong and has to be replaced. The bowl of chili was thin, as we expected it to be hearty. My sandwich was okay.

Don't even bother with Subway! This is what a sub should taste like. The Italian sub is superb, and the Hook and Ladder is one of my favorites (fully involved). I love the selection of hot sauces...I go for the Honey Habanero, it adds a sweet and slightly spicy kick to the hook and ladder. They also have awesome brownies! The staff is very friendly. Price is reasonable for the quality of the product. Only thing I'd suggest is that they clean up a little more often - it's high traffic and I guess things get messy quickly. I don't know why I think of dalmatians when I'm here.

Best subs south of Jersey. As someone born in raise in a land where Subs are done right, no offense Subway lovers... I've had my share of Sweet Onion Chicken Teryaki sandwiches, I have grown to appreciate certain establishments that can put together a good sub. The Firehouse staff is always friendly, and very helpful, plus they frequently run BOGO promotions and send out coupons, cha ching!! I fancy the Turkey sub here, my wife likes hers with the Bacon and Ranch dressing. The best part is that there are about 3-4 dozen different hot sauces available to dribble or drench your sub with. For me, the hotter the better, plus it's nice being able to try new hot sauces each time I go in. My biggest kudos go to Firehouse for their addition of the Coke Freestyle machine, they were the first restaurant to obtain one (in this area at least) and I am hooked on trying new flavors (not sure if I'll ever sample all 109 possibilities). Quality subs, especially for a chain. Only knock would be the speed at which the subs come out, sometimes I've waited 10 minutes or so, but they've always got TVs with sports on, so it's a bearable wait.

While the service and quality of MOST of the ingredients are still great - the mushrooms are no longer acceptable. I don't know if they changed them or what but they have a strange chemical taste now. I was told that they are no longer vegetarian because they contain anchovy oil - maybe that is the source of the taste. With out the mushrooms, I may as well go to Subway where at least I can get some nutritious spinach instead of iceberg. Here's hoping they solve their mushroom issue and take out these weird and unnecessary flavorings.

i don't like subway. i don't care if they call it turkey; their impeccably-circular discs of "meat" cannot be classified as any animal in my mind, since animals don't come in impeccably-circular shapes. firehouse subs on the other hand, brings real meat to the table. their premium deli meats are sliced paper-thin and piled high on toasty sub rolls. the virginia honey ham is sweet enough to melt in your mouth, and the engineer's turkey was tender and savory. what separates firehouse from your average sandwich shop is the freshness of their ingredients. they don't do anything fancy as far as putting those ingredients together, but IMOH, when you start out with quality, you can keep it simple. definite 4-star place. if you want a sub, they do it right.

I like you, Firehouse Subs. Why are you so dang far away! It's a good place for a sit-down bite to eat if you're not going there anytime around lunch. If you are, forget it and good luck getting through the door! They are SLAMMED at lunch time. If you don't have to be somewhere and you have time to stand in line to order (let alone try to get a place to sit down) you can get a good piping hot sub. Well, no. I take that back. You can get a good piping hot sub anytime! I've gotten the engineer sub, the Italian, the smokehouse beef and cheddar brisket, and their steak and cheese. Hands down, my two favorites are the beef and cheddar brisket and the Italian. The brisket sub has got some seriously delicious tangy-sweet BBQ sauce and when it's mixed with that cheddar cheese and beef.... mind blown. The Italian is great when you need a change from the BBQ sauce. Although that's a rare moment for me indeed. I get it "Fully Involved" but ask them to hold the mayo. I just feel weird getting it with mayo when it has Italian dressing on it. Combine that sandwich with a drink and some chips to snack on later when I'm home and I'm good to go.

Just bought a meatball sub from this place, because of the reviews and the place did not disappoint. The sub was good and we road around for about 35 minutes getting other stuff and I was worried that the sub would be messed up. But it was just as pretty and delicious even after sitting in the car for a spell (might have made it tast better, idk). Good stuff!! I recommend. One other thing, the customer service was pretty good. I was debating what kind of sub to get, and one of the guys came to me to let me know it was store policy to allow me to get another sub for free if I didn't like one that I had selected. Winner!

  • Christine P.

Subs are soooooo good here! The meat really does just melt in your mouth. Been there a couple times with my husband and we got different subs each time and they were all good. Don't think you can go wrong with any of them. Will definitely be going there regularly.

I guess they no longer yell out "welcome to firehouse when you enter" so I did :). The guy took extra long to make the sandwich then forgot to give me a pickle. I asked him what's going on I've been coming here for a while he's like I've only been working here for a little while-what?!? The what??

Boyfriend knows Firehouse Subs well since he's from Florida, so he was super excited to see that we have one in Kingstowne. I'd only been once, in Florida with him, but I liked it, so when he suggested it for lunch, I agreed. Firehouse could easily be just another boring sub place, but they're totally not. Boyfriend had the steamer. I had the brisket and cheddar, and kinda wished I'd gotten a large sandwich. Not because I was still hungry, but because it was so damn good. Boyfriend also loves the Italian, and he's picky about his Italians. And you can customize any of the sandwiches, so you're not stuck to the menu. Probably the best part about this Firehouse Subs, though, is the Coke machine. Its not your normal soda fountain - its one of those fancy schmancy touch screen deals with over 100 different flavors or something. Want Peach Sprite? No problem. Diet Cherry Vanilla Dr Pepper? Sure. The options are endless. Boyfriend disagrees, and says the best part is all the hot sauces. But we can agree to disagree :) The one negative? You know how when you walk into Cold Stone and they greet you 17 times? They do that here. But at least they don't sing. And that is far from enough to keep us away - this is better than Subway any day.

I always get a ton of coupons from this place, so we decided to pop in one night when we were looking for a quick dinner. Coupon got us a free drink and chips whenever we ordered a sub. Good deal, I ended up getting the steamer, which was a pastrami, italian dressing, mayo, and provolone cheese on wheat. the sandwich was much better than it had to be. I was expecting a run of the mill sub like place, but the flavor in the meat stood out. Yes they have the coke machine that allows you to pick your flavors, and that was neat although I'm not a huge soda person. It was a nice experience and would return (if they keep sending coupons!)

The Firehouse Subs in Kingstowne was the call for the office's lunch. Firehouse Subs, for the most part, follows the same formula as every other sub shop out there. You go to the counter, place your order from a variety of subs, pick up a bag of chips and a cup, wait for your name to be called, and claim your sandwich. Firehouse Subs offers a couple of twists, though, to the standard formula that I liked. First, they have a counter full of hot sauces similar to California Tortilla's "Wall of Flame" to add some heat to your sandwich. I had the New York Steamer (an unfortunate name for a sandwich), a hot sub with corned beef brisket, pastrami, provolone, topped with mustard, mayo and Italian dressing that really was a satisfying, meaty mouthful made all the better with some hot sauce. Second, they have a high-tech Coke machine which offers the widest selection of Coke products I've ever seen. The one negative from my lunch experience was that the sandwich making process seemed a bit inefficient. Rather than an assembly line process, it appeared their sandwich makers at various stations made individual sandwiches from start to finish. Some sandwich makers were a lot faster than others. Completed sandwiches were delivered out of order from the sequence that the original orders were taken. As a result, some members of our party had a much longer wait for their food even though they ordered well before me. Nevertheless, sometimes you just need a good sub sandwich and Firehouse Subs delivers the goods. It certainly beats Subway!

  • Tony M.

I was surprised to hear people complaining about the subs not being healthy. Subtract the cheese and mayo and Firehouse subs have fewer calories than most of Subways foot longs, e.g. a large New York Steamer without cheese & mayo has just over 600 calories. What's even better is the subs are even better without all the mayo and dressings. Because of the steam, the mayo and dressing makes them too soggy. Without it, they're perfect. The wide array of amazing hot sauces are a great substitute. I'm definitely not always a healthy eater, but when I'm counting the calories, Firehouse is a frequent stop. Online ordering is super convenient and they have those great Coke Freestyle soda machines.

I read the reviews before I came here and was scared that people were actually comparing this place to Subway. In my book, Subway doesn't even get one star. That aside, Firehouse Subs is A-OK. They toast the subs and the meat is hot. I got the New Yorker because it has corned beef, among other things. It was quite tasty. The subs come in 8 or 12 inches, but the 8-in is a meager portion and not as filled as 6-in subs from other locales. Fireman theme/decor is nice.

We come here all the time for subs. I've never had a bad sub here. Everything is delicious -- way better than Subway or Quizno's. The employees are generally friendly and get your food out fast (relatively fast, it does take a bit longer than McDonald's or whatever but it's worth it!) I will say that parking is kind of a chore when it gets busy in the shopping center but that's the case for Kingstowne in general.

BEST SUBMARINE SANDWICH CHAIN (in the DMV area) First, there was Subway but then Jared became a national icon and Subway sandwiches started tasting like cardboard. Second came Quizno's with its toasted subs concept ... still good but not extraordinary. Soon afterward, I discovered Potbelly's, which rocked my taste buds until too much of a good thing became a very bad thing (every three days for 2 months). Along the way, I've encountered other mediocre subs at Jimmy Johns and Jerry's Subs too. But there is perhaps no better submarine sandwich than the Firehouse Sub. Why is Firehouse Subs better than all the other sandwich chains? Simply because its has best quality meat and the best bread for the same prices as its competitors. Unlike other sandwiches, there's this brief moment before you bite into the sandwich where you actually salivate. Even if its not perfumed salami that makes your mouth water, then its probably one of the 30 or 40 hot sauces at your disposal. Each hot sauce is scaled from 1 to 10++ (10++ being the close to diabolical). And like John R., part of the experience is sampling a variety of hot sauces to find the ideal condiment for your sandwich. 4 Stars - I'm not claiming that Firehouse offers the best submarine sandwiches in the DMV area (that award tentatively goes to A. Litteri's over by Northeast DC), but, without a doubt, it is the best sandwich chain around here. Part of the reason why Firehouse retains its charm is that you can only find it at Kingstowne. Another part of the reason is that its entire staff greets every customer that walks through the day.

Truly and honestly one the best sandwiches I've ever had. You know how Denny's motto is "Come hungry, leave happy"? It should've been applied to this place from the start. Their varieites of sauces seem endless, which makes you feel adventurous. I highly recommend trying their Smoked beef brisket with cheddar cheese. You'll love it.

Firehouse Subs was started in Jacksonville, Florida and has been expanding quite a bit in recent history. The subs are prepared on white or wheat bread, then loaded with premium fresh meats and cheeses, veggies and other fixin's - like mayo, mustard, etc. To get everything is "fully loaded" and each sandwich takes a firehouse-themed name. As a sometimes vegetarian, I have to say that this is THE best veggie sub that I have found, and after confirming with an e-mail, the calorie count for veggie subs does include the cheese (hooray!) so that was another little victory of mine. Ironically, the veggie sub's name is just that, the veggie. I guess it's not beefy enough for a fireman name (HAHA). The atmosphere of FS is consistent throughout the chain, so this Kingstowne location was no different - firehouse memorabilia, and a friendly staff that call out a welcome when you arrive. Plus, if you dine in, the sandwich is brought to you - hooray! Don't forget to take advantage of the literal hot sauce buffet on the top counter! The Capt Sorensen sauce is my personal favorite, but there are sweet, mild, spicy and firey sauces to match anyone's taste, ready for sampling!

In the world of sub sandwiches, Firehouse Subs is king of the castle. While the menu may seem limited compared to your regular cut and dry Subway routine, it truly is not. More meat, more toppings, bigger sandwiches, same price. And always, always, get the cherry limeaid with some real limes added to it. I recommend the Hook & Ladder or the Club on a Sub.

This is a neat place because of the food and the reason for its creation. The sandwiches are hearty and filling and served in a firehouse ambiance. There is an amazing soda machine which as others have mentioned is almost a reason to go in itself. With just that I would give this place four stars, but the fifth is because its a great thing to be able to help support a good cause with patronage and that just puts this place over the top! By the way, check your fire alarms in your house at least once a year ;)

I must admit I felt a little uneasy coming here. My family and I had just gone shopping at a sports store in Alexandria and needed something to eat. We had a hankering for sandwiches and decided to come to this place after seeing how highly rated it was on Yelp. On the way there I continued to feel a growing doubt. How could something so good be located in the sticks? Or in one of these new-urbanism town centers that usually just have things like Chilis and Applebee's? No matter, we had already set on the path to Firehouse Subs... and I'm glad we did. It's a very well-lit place, and the service is friendly and quick. There are a multitude of options but the subs are where it's at. I had a #1 (Hook and Ladder) medium combo which comes with a drink and chips for about $6-7 if I remember correctly. This has warm turkey breast and honey ham along with monterey jack and various toppings. It was a good serving, especially with chips, although I might have gotten just a large sandwich instead. Everyone else liked their subs as well. Overall we really enjoyed Firehouse Subs, and while we wouldn't come here often (I'm not one to drive 30+ minutes for just any old grub) we would definitely recommend coming here if you're in the area.

We recently moved to VA and were looking for a place to buy hoagies and sandwiches that was cheap and quick, more or less a replacement for Wawa. This place is the answer, and with several locations in NOVA, they are easy to find; I wish they would open a location in DC. The staff is very friendly, overall the service is great. The menu has a large selection to choose from, as well as numerous toppings. I choose the cheesesteak or club sandwich, but substitute extra turkey for the ham (I know, doesn't that just make it a turkey sandwich...), easiest way to order what I want. The sandwiches are served hot, and the bread is delicious. Also, the cherry-limeade beverage is good as well. I will continue to go to frequent Firehouse Subs for sandwiches.

As far as the sandwiches go....they are the best! We eat there basically once a week....we always get the wheat bread because it is sweeter and it gives the sub a special taste. The subs we get are the Italian, Fully Involved and the Steak and Cheese....they are great!! The sweet tea is amazing, too. Last night we tried to use the internet to make our order. Don't waste your time. Once it was submitted, they called immediately to confirm....repeating the entire order and identifying a pick up time. I may as well have just called it in and skipped the computer step. Furthermore, once we went to pick up at the time they gave us...they said it would be 10 more minutes. They took several customers in front of us that got their subs first. We waited 20 minutes in the place.....that is less time than if we ordered in the store....don't waste your time on the internet order.... But...do go!! The food is great!

Hello! Hello, taste? Where are you? As I bit into a beef and cheddar sub, my mind was transported elsewhere and in-tune with Homer's first thoughts as he bit into the 40 calorie rice cake.

I work nearby this restaurant and have been here quite a few times for lunch. The quality of the food is always great and I always enjoy it. My favorite sandwich is the meatball sub. They recently switched from Pepsi products to Coca-Cola products and that was disappointing for all of my friends. I prefer root beer and I'm not too picky so I wasn't affected by this change, I am just happy that root beer is available here. I don't eat a lot of hot sauce, but I was still impressed by the size of their hot sauce collection. I brought my friend of mine there for the first time, I would describe him as a hot sauce connoisseur or enthusiast, and he was totally stoked about their hot sauce collection. He recognized one of his favorite sauces right away and tried some. He thought that it tasted a different and suggested that the sauces aren't being stored properly and that it is affecting their flavor. They sit out in the open on a counter all day with no refrigeration and with the number of sauces sitting up there, its possible that some of them have become very old. This isn't an issue for me because I never use them, to me the collection is still impressive to look at. The "Welcome to Firehouse!" greeting seems to have slowly died off since they initially opened, which is a relief because it was startling at times. The first time I ever ordered here I wasn't paying much attention, overwhelmed by the whole experience, and was puzzled and somewhat startled when the woman taking my order asked if I would like that "Fully Involved". Had I read the entire menu I would have known what they were asking (Fully Involved = Loaded. Complete with Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and a Dill Spear on the side.). The only issue I've ever had with this place is after placing an online order I went to pick it up from the counter up front and been blatantly ignored by the staff for over 10 minutes while my food was getting cold and soggy. Numerous employees looked over and made eye contact with me, and my order was ready sitting in a bag behind the counter the entire time. Eventually someone came over and helped me, after paying I made a remark about everyone ignoring me before walking away to fill my cup at the fountain drink machine. She caught up with me there and gave me a card for a free sandwich! That was sweet of her, it made me smile =) I still recommend you try this place if you haven't already, the sandwiches they offer are unique because they are steamed (with the exception of the meatball sub which is baked) not baked or microwaved like their competitors sandwiches. Also, they have kids meals available here too.

Would be a five star but they use honey baked ham on their Italian Sub which makes for an odd sweet taste to what should not be a sweet sandwich. Meatball sub looked amazing and the kiddos were happy with theirs. It gets very busy so if you see an open table, grab it fast. Will go back for sure. The large sandwich is huge. Wife had the chicken bacon ranch and loved it.

Being a Philadelphia native I think I am just the right person for writing a review about a place like this :). Philadelphia is known for hoagies, so I feel very strongly about a good hoagie! My conclusion, after having eaten at Jimmy John's and now Firehouse (establishments which are eerily similar), is that Philadelphians should not expect to get the sandwich they would otherwise normally get back home in Philadelphia. This is not to say the sandwich one can get from JJ's or Firehouse are bad. Quite the contrary, they are very delicious. Just as a Philadelphian I expect a bigger sandwich for the money. Nothing beats a quality hoagie on Amoroso's bread with a decent amount of meat, etc etc. So if the sandwich is delicious, why the 3 out of 5 rating? Well it is not like this place is great. If you are going for lunch on a weekday, I STRONGLY urge you to call in your order well ahead of time. I have been to this place two times during weekday lunch hour and both times I waited upwards of 20-25 minutes for my sandwich - there are just that many people who are brainwashed into believing that this is the best hoagie the world has to offer (lol...joke). Moreover, because of the number of people who eat here during lunch hour, it is rather hard to hear when they call your name to serve you your food. And, it is a very tight fit in there. There is seating both inside and outside, but the outdoor seating is limited and the indoor seating fills up fast and is tightly packed. There is a fountain drink station for unlimited refills, which is nice. I wasn't too impressed with their means of cooking the meat. I have gotten the roast beef and I watched them make it. They throw the meat on wax paper and into a heater box. They take it out and drain all the juice into the trash (yeah not really appealing, honestly). It seems rather unhealthy when you watch it all go down. If health and cleanliness are your thing, and you prefer a sub par, quick hoagie lunch that you would get from a place like this, I'd suggest you go to Subway or Quiznos instead. Their means of meat preparation are much healthier and clean. So yes, you will get a tasty meal here, but the other aspects of the meal (wait time, seating, etc.) makes for an average experience.

Delicious. I've never been disappointed. Subs are of good price because they are so good. They also have one of those cool, new pop machines too. Just don't get stuck behind the dummies that have never used them before.

I went with a group of people, and the benefit with going with a group is that you get a review of a whole bunch of subs at one time. And the good news: everyone loved their subs! Service is quick, yet the people for the most part weren't cordial at all. They were impatient with everyone's orders, even though there was nobody in the restaurant outside of us. Nothing fancy about looks: some firemen outfits here and there, some pictures, and dalmation-spotted tables give it a nice place that you'd likely take your kids to. Now about the subs: absolutely fantastic. I got the hook and ladder, and they melted the cheese and baked the sub to a warm crisp. The various choices of hot sauces is a nice little flare to the food, but it really isn't necessary. A lot of people got the meatball subs and seemed to want seconds. Someone else had the Smokehouse Brisket and loved it. Overall the subs are cooked the same way, the ingredients taste fresh, and the bread is manageable (not hard enough that it cuts up the top of your mouth, but doesn't hold well enough from falling apart on your last bite). -1 star for crappy employees

I decided to do cheese-steaks for lunch every day this week... no real reason for it, just wanted to clog my arteries a bit more than usual I guess. After every place nearby I could think of, I decided to give Firehouse a try. Although I went a bit early, it seemed like a great atmosphere for a relaxed lunch with friends. I can definitely appreciate the theme and decor, but the dalmatian tables are a bit too much. As for the food, I got the large steak and cheese sub, obviously. The meat and other ingredients were definitely better and tastier than you get in comparably priced sandwich/sub chains, although definitely not the best cheese steak in the area. (Al's still holds that title in my opinion.) The sub was very good though with only one major complaint. The bread, while moist and chewy, was simply too flimsy, and it didn't help that the bottom wasn't fully cut through. The first half just kind of fell apart as I tried to pick it up. Otherwise though, this is a great place for lunch or takeout and I'll definitely be going back to try out some of the other menu options.

This was my first time coming to a firehouse subs and it can be closely compared to Potbellys in terms of size, price and quality. Honestly, I can't tell a difference in taste between the two. Both offer quality ingredients in their subs and their veggies taste fresh. The only slight difference I could notice was that Firehouse subs were cleaner, Potbelly subs tend to be overpacked with lettuce falling all over the place. I prefer the Firehouse approach, but also notice that they offer slightly less meat compared to Potbellys. Everyone seemed to be pretty nice, greeting customers with a sushi joint like "Welcome!". I also liked the rack of complimentary hot sauces for you to choose from. Don't get me wrong - it's obviously better than Subway, but just seems too much like Potbellys with hot sauce.

I used to go here every other Tuesday before I met up with the guys for cigar night. For a while they had a special sweet peppers and meatball sub. Wish they would bring that back. Now I get a Hot Pastrami. Love the selection of hot sauces they have lined up. Fast delivery to your table or to go and friendly staff

OMG, Awesome! I'm not going to write about the decor, which is kinda kitschy but makes sense with the Firehouse theme. I'm not going to write about the staff, who are friendly and helpful, even when you come in 10 minutes before closing and they just want to go home. I'm here to write about the subs. And boy, are these some subs. I've only been here twice, but have tried four different subs (the bf and I order different subs and trade halves) and everything I've had is AWESOME. The corned beef sub is fantastic. The cheesesteak sub rocks. If you order the subs the way they come (with the condiments they recommend) the flavor profiles are fresh and amazing. I've never had a problem with dry subs, because they sauce it up really well, and the sauce is flavorful and lovely. They steam the meat in steamer baskets, which makes it juicy and moist. The bread is toasted. A sub from here is just a lovely, fresh sub that you want to devour and will leave you staring at the empty paper wrapping, longing for more. If you enjoy a high-quality sub (none of that Subway crap here) Firehouse is definitely your place. If you happen to be in the area and looking for a bite, stop in. You won't regret it.

Very cool. I'm from California, so I've never seen anything like it. The firefighter theme of this place; the line of hot sauces with a number sticker to indicate the spiciness; and the cool touch soda machine! Any kid who likes firefighters would love this place. But come here for the taste. The sandwiches here are absolutely delicious and filling!

Great food, but as other reviewers said, don't waste your time doing an internet order. Either it's not ready at your quoted time, or it's been sitting for 15 minutes before they realize you're there and call your name, and the subs are soggy by the time you get to enjoy them.

A coworker of mine suggested we go cuz he thinks it's "awesome. He actually wasn't to far off. We went around lunch and the place was crowded which usually means long wait time and crappy service or this is gonna be sweet manna from heaven. It turned out to semisweet manna from heaven. I had the BBQ w/cheese and put on my front face for my coworker that said we could have done better when in fact, that was very far from the truth. The place was awesome! The atmosphere, the billions of ways my sub can be tricked out, even the noise was welcome. I really enjoyed the place.... my only regret is I haven't been back.....

Firehouse has pretty good subs, and they have a veggie one. I like the selection of hot sauces. But what I really liked about this location was the customer service. Everyone working in there was friendly and happy, and they gave my boyfriend a free sub coupon even though his sub only came out a few minutes later than the rest of ours!

Firehouse make the best subs, bar none. Seriously, I've had everything on the menu and the only one i don't care for is the meatball sub. Love, love this place. Prepare to wait if you eat lunch here during the day, it's hectic. I still haven't had a better sub sandwich since these guys opened up. I don't even know if it's possible yet...They must have superior technology or...wait for it....FRESHNESS! Take that, Subgay..

Best meatball subs in DC Metro area. Firehouse is a new chain to the dc area and I was VERY impressed with my visit. Maybe it's because they're new, but when you enter, everyone who works there turns and greets you - I watched them do it to customer after customer while I was there. All subs are toasted, and the meatball was like none other. It's how I would make a meatball sub if I weren't so lazy. Toasted bread, meatballs with seasoning (not just plain ground meat), melted provolone, sprinkled with oregano and basil on top. I'll definitely return every time I'm in the area for a haircut. ----- I almost forgot to add my favorite part! They have a collection of 30-40 different hot sauces that you can spice up your subs with! I LOVE spicy food and always wish I could find hot sauce at sub shops, this was a welcome treat. Although I didn't partake of any sauce with that first meatball sub because I really wanted to savor the flavors...

Firehouse is located at a decent, if busy spot. It's amongst so many other places to eat that I never got to it right away. As a vegetarian, I find that their veggie subs are completely amazing - and they do the whole toasted subs shtick even better than Quiznos (and they have good veggie subs!) Really good for on the go, not the type of atmosphere I like to sit and eat in. The theme is cute for the menu items, and the staff has been friendly enough each time I've visited. Overall, a nice place for when you're hungry. Which is the whole point, isn't it?

Went there to grab a sandwich before a movie. Ordered the Beef & Cheddar Brisket sub. Was not good. The meat was over cooked and tastless. It also had a sweet BBQ sauce on it which did not appeal to me. I did not spit it back out, but it was not what I'm used to when it comes to brisket. Otherwise the place nice, was clean, employees were very helpful. After hearing all the other glowing reviews I will give it another try, just won't order the brisket.

Better than Quizno's and way better than subway, this place also keeps hot sauce in a variety of bottles for those us whose taste buds were forged in hell. I always get the Italian and am never disappointed. Quick order and free refills make for a good lunch place, or before or after movie place (Right next door to the Kingstowne movie house). They also sell their used pickle buckets for two bucks, which you CANNOT get the pickle smell out of. Be sure and throw in the trunk or in the back of the truck, because your ride will smell like pickles PDQ even after you take the bucket out. Why buy a bucket? TWO DOLLAR BUCKET, MAN!

Oh DC yelpers, I am so disappointed in you. I waited years for Firehouse to make it this far north. Finally, FINALLY, the greatest sub chain in the country and the ONLY good thing besides Lynard Skynard to come out of Jacksonville, FL comes to the DMV and you guy totally miss the best thing about it. I will say it loud and clear: CAPT SORENSEN'S DATIL PEPPER SAUCE THIS is what makes Firehouse the best. Order up a NY steamer sub, grab a squeeze bottle from the counter and go to town. All the subs here are great and the kids get a fun little fire hat. What's not to love?

I went there for the first time because I had a coupon for a free sub. I go the "steamer" which is basically a pastrami sandwhich. The girl there was really nice. The subway good, but would have been better with an added texture (aka coleslaw). Just a thought. I would go back because for subs, its good.

I took a chance on this location last year and I wasn't disappointed. I get the "Hook and Ladder" "fully involved." Fully Involved = Loaded. Complete with Mayo, Mustard, Lettuce, Tomato, Onion and a Dill Spear on the side. It's great. They steam the meat before they make the sub and they have news and sports on flat screen televisions inside. What makes this place great is the service that you get and the environment. Every person that enters is greeted with "Welcome to Firehouse Subs." The staff are very friendly. The environment looks like the inside of a firehouse, complete with fireman jackets hanging on hooks and diamond plating on the walls. Further, if you buy a used pickle bucket, the owners of firehouse subs take the proceeds and purchase up-to-date equipment for fire companies that can't afford investment in new firefighting technologies (I saw a report on, I think it was CNN, about it). This is a business that has what is important at the heart of its corporate culture. I am very happy to spend my hard earned money at this establishment.
