I travel a bit for work (was staying at the Hilton across the street). Every once in a while you come across a business that does all the little things right. This place is such a business. It's clean, nice atmosphere, super attentive staff without being in your face all the time, understandable menu, fresh and good food, and fair prices. I almost didn't go because their online menu doesn't show prices, but the high Yelp reviews and proximity convinced me to go. I had grilled shrimp and chicken to roll yourself in a rice wrap. I made a mess but it was good fun. The Thai iced tea was good and so was the red bean ice cream (1st time I tried that). $25 + $5 tip = $30 for a great meal. Great service and I love places that understand it's not about doing anything special, it's about doing the simple things right.

You're welcomed by a very modern ambiance and familiar Vietnamese flavors! I'm not Vietnamese, but from experience with tastes of both homemade and restaurant cooked food, the tastes here are on point! Bubble tea was creamy and sweet. Yes it was definitely made from powder, so it's nothing to advertise, but I was happy it hit our boba craving! I had the chicken vermicelli and the chicken was seasoned on the sweeter side rather than savory and eventually I enjoyed it. The fish sauce wasn't very noticeable when I poured it on my noodles and I'm not sure if I enjoy that better. It did it's job to moisten my noodles while keeping my veggies crunchy. The few bites of pho I had had very familiar flavors, not watered down and meats were tender and not overdone. I would definitely come back for my next Vietnamese craving!

Conflicted on this review: I had one good meal there, and one poor one so I am averaging this out to a three star review. First, the good: the pho dac biet (you don't even want to know how Apple Voice to text spelled that) was solid with the flavorful broth A nice mix of rare steak, brisket, and tendon and while the meatballs were super funky Vietnamese meatballs almost always are so I don't hold that against the soup. Now the bad: I'm not sure if they do this with all non-Asian customers, but I experiences both times I visited this restaurant. The first time I ignored it and just ordered the pho, The second time I caved in and ordered one of their "stirfries". The dish wasn't even remotely Vietnamese and flavor profile, presentation, vegetables used. It was just a very weak approximation of a standard American Chinese meet in mixed vegetable dish and be considered weak even in that category. If they try to steer you to one of those dishes, and I suspect they will since they did that to me twice, my recommendation is to politely decline and stick with their actual Vietnamese fair.

Went to Pho 1 Grill for my Bestie's birthday. The place is beautiful, clean and modern. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. We had the appetizer sampler, it was delicious. And I had the Tom Yum and my bestie had the Pho Sate I think, it was delicious as well, everything was bursting with flavor, and so fresh! And we got some Vietnamese Coffee to go, and that beats Cuban coffee any day! The owner and staff were so pleasant and kind. Always filling our water glasses and making sure we were okay. We will definitely be making the trip again, just to eat at Pho 1 Grill. xo

Decent place to get your viet fix in short pump. Ordered pho, spring rolls, Bahn MI and a bubble tea here during a weekend trip to VA. The staff were super friendly when taking my order and all was ready in about 10 min. My taro bubble tea was creamy and delicious and the pho really light with plenty of beef. However I was not too impressed with the banh MI as my bread was hard and the pork too sweet for my taste. The spring roll sauce was also too watery. Four stars instead of three for being a quick clean stop in spot in an area devoid of good Asian food, but I've definitely had more authentic at a lower price.

Wow this place was delicious! The staff was friendly and the place is new and spacious. We started out with the Shrimp Shrimp Shrimp, which is the jumbo shrimp rolls, it was served hot and crispy. Loved the added onion and the sweet chili sauce. I had the grilled pork vermicelli for the entree and boy was it yummy! Large portion and flavorful.

3.5 Ordered lemongrass but what I received did not taste like it - more of a ginger soy stir fry. Food was decent, but nothing outstanding - soup and spring rolls were forgettable. I did like my bubble tea though

It was pretty slow due to the rain. The staff was SUPER attentive. The decor was clean and modern. Very comfortable. Fancy. Different than the pho places in California. I loved how the chopsticks were individually wrapped instead of in the containers God knows how many hands have touched it. I wish they had small ramekins for the hoisin sauce. I just made my own. The pho broth was good. Tasty. It has a small amount of MSG which is better than most other places where they put a whole bunch of MSG. The crispy spring rolls were ok... I've had better. The garlic crispy tofu were ok. I rather have sweet and sour sauce than the salty brown sauce. Overall good experience. Would go back.

--FOOD-- ~Pho The pho has a more homemade taste to it which I enjoyed but some may find that the broth is less potent than Pho So 1, which has become the standard for good pho in Richmond. I think that the price point for the dishes are quite high compare

Our entire family loves this place! The staff is so friendly and always seem to recognize us and our 4 children when we come in. The owners always take time to visit with us and bring extra fortune cookies for the little ones. The pho is excellent and generous - my favorite is pho sate (P4), which has good cuts of beef in a tasty broth. Our kids seem to like the chicken pho the best. A great place for a family dinner or a quick lunch!

This place goes into the category of "Legit Food in Short Pump." When you go you will be greeted by the always-smiling Paul, formerly of House of Vietnam on Pump Rd. He always asks about your family and makes you feel like a regular. But the food. Paul says it's the same recipes as before. I, however, find the flavors to be brighter and the presentation fresher than at the HOV. Perhaps it's the newer surroundings. In any event, this is solid Vietnamese. From the Bun to the pho, it's all quite good!

I can see why this place is liked by many...after visiting short pump mall I stopped by here for dinner...this place is clean and very welcoming. ..the staff from the owners to the workers were friendly and nice...excellent service clean environment and the food was great...I ordered beef ball pho, taro bubble tea, the shrimp summer roll and for dessert fried banana....food flavorful and good portions...one negative was the peanut sauce for the summer roll it tasted watered down...nonetheless this place will not disappoint you.

It isn't often you are able to go to a family owned restaurant in the West End and have great food and see owners who truly love their customers and their food. We come here often and owner Paul and his wife treat us like family. The food is always good and the service is spot on. Add the nice atmosphere and you won't be disappointed. Our favorites are the broken rice bowls with extra spring rolls, the Sinh Sinh Vermicelli, and Crazy Beef made spicy (the spice and sweetness are a great complement to the tender beef). Can't go wrong here...Paul is also know for a magic trick or two..just ask him.

Will I drive an hour for a $7.00 bowl of soup? Hell yes, I will, when it's this good! Not having many (any) pho options in Charlottesville, my husband and I will take a field trip to Richmond for pho and a museum or a movie, and we always end up back at Pho 1 Grill. Super friendly staff and awesome pho Thai, with flavorful broth and plentiful meat options. The dumpling appetizer is also very good.

In the recent years, a lot of Vietnamese Restaurants have open and are offering what seems to be MOST popular; Pho. When, I go to any Asian Restaurant, I expect a complexity of flavors. I am a BIG fan of Asian Food because of this, and yesterday when I was in the Westend of Richmond, I came across Pho 1 Grill. So, I JUST had to stop in and check them out and I am glad I did.... The place is spotless, and I had no problem in finding good seating as I always go late after lunch, so I can beat any crowd. My favorite time to eat.... When they bought me the menu, I asked for the Lunch Menu. He said I had it... So, I was looking at a Lunch Menu which looked like dinner prices on it. I was anxious to see what the dinner menu looked like upon my leaving. So, I ordered the Vietnamese Curry Chicken spicy. I asked for EXTRA Spicy as well. I had the Hot & Sour Soup along with the Summer Spring Roll. The H&S soup came out first, and upon tasting it, I knew it was ONLY slight warm. Hot & Sour soup needs to be Temperature Hot.... By the time, I had eaten half the soup, it was cold in taste. I was disappointed in the soup, as the food needs to be Temperature HOT! When the Curry Chicken came out, I noticed the Summer Roll on the plate, but smaller in size. It was about a 1/3 smaller than most Spring Rolls. The Curry Chicken, the portion was small in size for what they were charging as well... I put some of the Peanut sauce on my Summer Roll and it lacked in flavor. So, when I tried the Curry Chicken, I was extremely disappointed. The Curry Sauce was not thick as it should have been and it was like a watered down Brown Gravy. It did not have the Curry Flavor as I had hoped. When I order a Curry dish, I want to taste the Curry in my dish.... In addition, it was NOT Extra Spicy as I had ordered. I saw ONE whole Red Chili Pepper in the dish... Upon leaving, I looked at the dinner menu and I was shocked to see how the prices are almost doubled. I asked the Manager if the portions are larger, and he said yes.... Finally, I have eaten in many Asian Restaurants here in Richmond and have returned several times because of their great food. I may go back to Pho 1 Grill, and try their Pho... however, I will probably drive by their place, as there are too many good Asian Restaurants here which give you excellent food with good portions even if you do go for lunch.... To say the least, I was disappointed.

Found this gem located just outside the mall. I went in and was immediately greeted by friendly faces. Seated and served quickly with good food too. The pho broth had an aromatic and deep beef flavor that many Vietnamese restaurans lack. The serving was generous and the appetizer spring rolls were crispy and delicious! The staff were attentive, friendly, and quick to respond. The decor and atmosphere was pleasent as well. Will be back for more.

I've been a regular here for just over a year! Why? Because it is consistently the best Vietnamese restaurant in town! I've had pho from nearly every Vietnamese place in Richmond - the broth at Pho 1 Grill is fantastic and the the beef is of stellar quality. My quest to explore the menu has been a fantastic adventure. Every menu item I've tried has been great. If you are feeling a bit froggy, I highly suggest getting the Taro bubble tea. You won't be disappointed and you are welcome in advance.

My husband and I were out in the short pump area and wanted pho but did not want to go to pho so 1! We saw this place and after having the pho and vermicelli, were very impressed! Super clean and friendly! We had the shrimp spring rolls, which were pretty good but would be better with another meat. Pho was a large portion and plenty of meat. The vermicelli was really good, I think. You could taste the grill on the pork and it has cucumbers, which I love! Most vermicelli's I've had doesn't come with cucumbers. We normally go to Vietnam Garden but their not as friendly. And used to go to pho so 1 but they are pretty trifling and dirty. I would definitely come back to this place and try more on their menu.

  • Jen J.

They are awesome! The owners are friendly. The food is good. This place probably has some of the best pho in the Glenn Allen / Richmond area that I've been to so far. Although the pho bowl is a bit smaller than I'm used to. Their broth is pretty good and the noodles are cooked perfectly. The meats are not a cheap cut of meats so eat away!

This was my first time coming to a Vietnamese joint and NOT ordering pho. I wasn't craving pho like I typically am, so branched out and ordered banh mi, which is something I had been wanting to try for a while. The pork banh mi was surprisingly really good. Crusty bread, lots of veggies; the meat had a sweet BBQ flavor to it. My mom ordered the lemongrass chicken, and she said it was good, but lacked the strong lemongrass flavor she was seeking. The service was above average- the young server was attentive and wore a high smile. The restaurant is new, with modern decor and is very spacious and open. Given that pho is in the name, I'll be back when I get the chance and have my normal pho-petite.

Came in 5 minutes before close, greeted and seated by very friendly staff and owners! The food came out extremely fast as well as the drinks. All specifications of our order was met. The staff was very attentive, but not intrusive. The food was excellent and the spring rolls were very fresh and crunchy. My pho had a lovely aroma and tasted fantastic. We ordered a green tea boba as well as coffee; it was refreshing with a generous serving size. The owners were more than welcoming, they accommodated to our needs and I would surely come again!

I drove over an hour to eat here because of the raving reviews, and it was well worth it. The restaurant is extreme clean, the staffs are friendly, and the food is delicious. It's better than Pho So 1 for sure.

  • Kelly K.

I've been ordering take out from here for about a year and I've never been disappointed. I usually get the shrimp rolls and they are always extremely fresh. At other places in town the brisket in the Pho Tai Nam has more fat than beef. The brisket here has just the right balance. And the broth is extremely flavorful. The owners are super friendly and always make me feel welcome, even if I'm just taking an order to go. Highly recommend Pho 1 Grill!

  • Lisa G.

In short: nice decor, great service, fast service, Short Pump location, prices higher than average, and food that is not great (which of course is everything). Got my usual pork and rice vermicelli, and I don't know what else was in it, but it wasn't good. It tasted like fake meat, and the actual pork didn't have that grill taste to it that makes it so good. AND I left still hungry. The crispy spring rolls were just okay. My twelve-year-old niece ordered cellophane noodles with chicken... wish I tried it so I could comment. She ate half of it. I really wish I liked it. They were REALLY nice people. But I won't be back here. Sticking to the trifecta of Mekong, Pho So 1 and Pho Tay Do... and perhaps the occasional trip to Vietnam Garden. 2.5 stars generously rounded up to 3

Love this place!! Discovered pho a few years ago and have tried a variety of places in town. This place is far beyond all of the others I've tried, in ambiance, service, and most importantly food! We have loved everything we have tried. The owners are so authentic and really love what they do and making their customers happy. And my favorite part is there is some a ambiance to the place, so it actually passes for a cheap date night to have a drink and enjoy your dinner without feeling "divey". Every time we are there we see people there who the owner knows personally, so obviously people are coming back again and again. Prices are reasonable and can't wait to return!

  • Lisa L.

Because my last review was one star so Yelp can't show it? It's one star because the pho sucks, beefy and bland, the seafood dish was even worse. People must NEVER had pho to come to this place.

This is the EXACT same set up/concept as the restaurant before this one (forgot the name..) Me and my friend split their pho 1 sampler/combo as we only wanted a snack. It came with fried shrimp, shrimp, spring rolls, dumplings and Teriyaki glazed chicken skewers. Fried shrimp was typical, nothing really fancy going on, dumplings were your average frozen ones and steamed until they were ready again, and the chicken skewers were overly sweet and almost tasted like candy.. The spring rolls were also pretty standard. Unfortunately, nothing really stood out food wise, and with an abundance of Viet restaurants around, you really need to showcase what you can offer. The service was a little too much here.. there weren't too many patrons so I saw the servers watching from a distance. It's nice to know that they can refill the water and clean up plates quickly but it made us feel a little awkward b/c they were just waiting to find something to do. P.S.- I am sure Sam E, my eating companion, and I will agree that their peanut sauce here is like peanut butter and nyquil mixed together.. it was a very unpleasant sauce...

Stopped by to pick up take out on a whim. I was initially surprised by the price for Tom Yum soup (pricier than most soups at other restaurants), but when unpacking the order at home, it was a definite meal and notjust a small bowl of soup. The presentation of how they packaged the food was appealing - vermicelli noodles in the main section, 4 shrimp placed on top on the noodles and then the garnishes of cilantro, fresh jalapeño and a lime wedge surrounded it. The smaller section of the container had the bean sprouts. I'm not usually a fan of bean sprouts, but they were so fresh and tasty and added a great crunch to the soup. The broth was served in a separate container. When put all together, I enjoyed the freshest and tastiest Tom Yum noodle meal that I've ever eaten. It was well worth the price. I made a meal out of my serving and my husband enjoyed his with his Bahn Mi. Delicious!! My husband went into the restaurant to order our take out and then returned to the car to wait with me. They mentioned our order would take 20 minutes. After 10 minutes, one of the waitstaff brought out our order. It was freezing cold and we hated that she came out in the cold without a coat, but she presented the best customer service. She disregarded the apologies we gave for not coming back into the restaurant when it was ready and for her coming out in the cold. She gave us a big smile, thanked us and waved goodbye to us. So genuine, so happy and so appreciative. Wow. She made us smile. :) I will definitely return and dine within the restaurant. The food was so good and the waitperson left such a great first impression that I will recommend it to all my friends. Looking forward to my next visit!

Servers not very accommodating in explaining menu and was not open to substitutions. The prices are not reasonable and portions are small. Our meal came out to almost $70 where normally we eat Vietnamese restaurants twice weekly and we would get more portions and save $30. Our meal was small in portions and just way over priced. Will not come back again and will not recommend to anyone.

My friend and I were craving Vietnamese food and a new place we have yet to try so I searched yelp. (Of course!) we came across pho 1 grill and wanted to try it. First impressions are always a thing for me and right when we stepped in we were greeted by 2 of the friendliest people ever! :) brownie points for making us feel welcomed. And I recognized the lady from Tan-A! She sat us quickly. The decor was beautiful. I felt like I was at the fanciest Vietnamese restaurant in town. Now let's talk about the good stuff, the food! For appetizers we ordered teriyaki beef skewers. OMG. This was so good. I'm a big fan of saucy things and the skewers came out saucy and tender. They gave us 4 skewers of long slices of beef. I ordered the vermicelli bowl with chicken and shrimp. The portion was kind of small compared to other places, but then again it was their lunch portion. It was good and very flavorful. I definitely enjoyed my first time eating there. I want to come back and try dinner here! Wait for that review to come! :)

Delicious food and delightfully friendly service! Pho 1 Grill has the best Bahn Mi in Richmond. Their Tom Yum soup has great flavor and is made with the freshest ingredients. When a restaurant serves food this good and so clearly appreciates my business, I feel good about patronizing it. Pho 1 Grill had earned my loyalty.

So what makes a Pho restaurant a 3 star, 4 star, or even a 5 star restaurant? The broth? Extras? Freshness? Well cooked? A couple weeks ago I ate at a Pho restaurant that had meat that looked largely undercooked. The meat was a bit pink. This restaurant I found the meat well cooked. The amount of meat was average and the broth was average as well. So if average is 3 stars. How does a Pho restaurant become a 4 star restaurant? The service was excellent and prompt and the food was a bit above average. This leads me to think. What is a 5 star Pho? What does that taste like? My journey continues!

It's too bad that this restaurant is too hidden away from everything. It really does have potential. Right before our movie, we decided to find somewhere close to grab a bite so that we can catch the movie on time. At first, we were about to hit up the Indian restaurant next door, but after checking out its reviews, we decided on this place housing my hometown food. The decor was nice. Not too shabby. Looks pretty new, not quite sure when they were established. Its a nice place to go on a date with your significant other. Now... Onto the food. I ordered the ginger fish and my boyfriend ordered the seafood birds nest. They were both good dishes, although my boyfriend liked the sauce for my dish better. I LOVED my fish dish, it was flavorful and crispy. I haven't had it like this anywhere I've been before, besides the fact that I wish it had more fish meat, it was pretty good.

I moved here from Northern Virginia, aka the Mecca of Vietnamese food so I admit I have high expectations. This place is amazing and blows all the other Vietnamese restaurants (*cough* pho so 1) out of the water. I kid you not I stopped trying Vietnamese places because they were so mediocre until now. The owners are so thankful that you are there, the atmosphere is welcoming, it's clean and the food is the freshest in Richmond. A staff member is always checking in, with big smiles and an eagerness to please. I cannot recommend this place enough. Since discovering it about two weeks ago, I've been there about five times!! Need I saw more?

Absolutely love this place! Paul and the staff are very friendly and the service is always excellent. I have been there many times and it is very consistent. They even know me by name now, which makes going there even more personal. I order the pan fried wontons for an appetizer every time. The Sauce is amazing. I crave the P6 and P12, but if you aren't in the mood for soup the other entrees are very good as well. I highly recommend it!

The restaurant was much fancier that any typical Pho restaurant. The place is super clean and the staff is quite friendly. App: Crispy Spring Roll - pork was a little bland Grilled Pork Soft Rolls - very tasty. Pork had a great marinade. Dinner: Pho Dac Biet - Broth was ok. Didn't quite have the pho broth flavor I am used to. This broth tasted more like a stock broth and there wasn't enough spices in it. I had to add a teaspoon of fishauce to it. With that being said, I didn't find my Pho to be that great. It was edible and I finished it but wish I went with a different dish. I'd like to come here and try some of their rice dishes. A table next to mine had some really nice looking dishes. But for Pho, I'd still stick to Pho So 1 as my go-to.

Pho 1 Grill is brought you by the same folks that owned House of Vietnam. Paul and his wife are awesome and always make you feel welcome. Obviously there is Pho but there are "traditional" Chinese dishes(e.g. sesame chicken, chicken with vegetables) available as well. Lunch is generously portioned and comes with soup and a spring roll. The dumplings are top notch. I highly recommend for anyone looking for a excellent meal that is fairly priced in a friendly setting.

Grand opening week! Wasn't surprised to find another Vietnamese restaurant popping up around here. Pho is equivalent to crack cocaine here in good ol' Richmond. This place used to be called Far East Bistro (food wasn't up to par hence no mo' business) But I see a lot of potential for this new restaurant! I'm diggin' the: -Staff. Full of smiles and very welcoming -Vietnamese tofu sandwich (banh mi) -Fresh dripped iced Vietnamese coffee (good condensed milk/coffee ratio)

Just got done having the best pho in Richmond! My boyfriend and I went to 7 different Vietnamese restaurants in town before finding our new favorite place! Honestly, the only thing better than the pho is the incredible service! Don't forget to try the bubble tea! Already can't wait to go back again!

Can only comment on take out here but man is their food good. It's tucked away in the extreme west end behind the Short Pump Hilton. Wife gets the C1- tofu broken rice dish and she raves about it. I discovered the soft grilled pork rolls last night and fell in love. Reasonable prices, family run and friendly service.

This is my second time eating here, and I've been very pleased both times. Specifically the bubble (boba) tea smoothies are what drew me in as there are not many places to get these in Richmond, and the coffee one is my favorite. The owners and waitstaff are very attentive and are quick to check in at the table for anything you may need. My daughter claimed she was starving, and the waitress had her soup out in less than a minute, much to her delight. The appetizer sampler is a must-try, with the fried spring rolls being my favorite. The vermicelli is absolutely perfect- have tried several different kinds and all were tasty, but beef is my favorite. If you have small children with you, ask Paul (the very friendly owner) to do a magic trick if it's not too busy. He is so kind and engaging and our kids loved him! This place is a hidden gem in Short Pump with no wait either time we have visited, which is a pleasant surprise in this area. Since it is not on the main beat (it is tucked behind the Short Pump mall beside Hilton), I don't think many people realize that delicious Vietnamese is so close! Great restaurant!

Pho 1 Grill is my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in Richmond. They are great with their customers and always provide exemplary service. Donna is an amazing chef; I've never been unsatisfied with any of the menu options I've ordered. On top of everything else, the ambiance and decor are top tier. The Trans are great and I am more than happy to support them. You can't go wrong with Pho 1 Grill!

  • Michael S.

This place was surprisingly good. Not surprising because it didn't look good (and clean), but because it's part of a strip mall food was excellent and the service was phenomenal. A guy (I'm guessing the owner) made sure everyone was taken care of, as well as all of them attentive staff. Definitely a great place for pho!

Hands down the best Vietnamese food in RVA. Pho 1 Grill has all of the favorite Vietnamese dishes but are a step up on the quality and freshness. The service is unmatchable! If you walk into the restaurant once, you will be greeted kindly... If you walk in twice, you will be greeted like a friend. Give this restaurant a try and I know you won't be disappointed.

We found this place through Yelp, and had fairly high expectations! We walked in having a general idea of what to expect, and were still pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is quiet and intimate. The decor is very classy and the lighting is just right. When we arrived, we were seated immediately. The wait staff was really excellent - they checked back on us several times, which some people might find irritating, but I think is great. I hate having to try and flag down a passing server every time you need something. We got the summer rolls (fresh rolls with shrimp, noodles, lettuce and basil in a thin soft wrapper - not fried) for an appetizer, and I got the vietnamese coffee. For those of you who aren't familiar, this is a treat. They have a tiny percolator that sits atop a glass of sweetened condensed milk; the grounds are on top and the coffee brews directly into your cup. You get a little bit of coffee grounds, but it's not that big a deal and it always tastes ten times better than anything you get at Starbucks. The summer rolls were on point; my banh mi that I ordered as my entree was excellent, with very flavorful meat and some of the softest bread I've come across. My boyfriend got the beef vermicelli bowl, and was very happy with it - the veggies were super fresh, the beef was well flavored, and the noodles were cooked just right. After the meal was done, we got a couple of bubble teas to go. This was the only part of the meal that wasn't outstanding for me - the boba didn't seem all that fresh, or was maybe overcooked. The flavor was still good, but the pearls had gotten to the sticky/dissolving stage and were hard to take in through the straw. After we finished up, the owner came over and asked how everything was; he seemed so thrilled when we told him everything had been excellent! You can really tell that he takes customer satisfaction seriously. Overall, it was an excellent find, and we will most definitely be back.

It's important to know that this place is owned by the same people who ran House of Vietnam. There is a new restaurant at the old House of Vietnam location called "Lemongrass" and it doesn't even come close to Paul's new restaurant, Pho 1 Grill. The menu seems to be similar if not the same as House of Vietnam, which means everything is incredible. This is good, reliably awesome Vietnamese with fantastic vermicelli dishes that you just can't go wrong with. It looks upscale but is very affordable. Pho 1 Grill is the West End equivalent of Mekong and Pho So 1, although I'd say the atmosphere is a little more lavish than both. So STOP BY and make sure to say hi to Paul!

Amazing!! Had the shrimp spring rolls and pho dac biet. Staff was super friendly and very knowledgable! Paul came by to say hello. I can't wait to return.

Good qulaity food, for the most part. The flank steak in the pho tends to have a lot of inedible fat. I have learned after several tries not to order this option. With this said all of the other appetizers and soups we have tried have always been of good quality and tasty. Main courses are also consistenly good. Service and customer care is outstanding.

The service was perfect, the food was great. I can't wait to try more food from this place. Also, it's very inexpensive. I don't know where the $$ sign came from--it's not expensive at all.

Been for lunch twice and both times we enjoyed ourselves. The service is friendly and attentive, though a little "too" attentive at time. That being said, I'd rather have my server too available than back in the kitchen "tweetering". I picked the same dish both times, the vermicelli with pork, and both times it was fresh and tasty. My friend ordered the Pho and said it was outstanding. Prices are very reasonable and the restaurant is clean. I'm still holding Pho Tay Do as 1# for Vietnamese food in Richmond, but the Pho 1 Grill is an excellent second choice and with so few Vietnamese restaurants in this area, I'll be going back again.

Ive loved their food since before they even moved to this location. The decor and atmosphere is exactly what their amazing food needed. Seriously the nicest people you have ever met, and you can't order something bad. In my opinion the best wonton soup in town. Dumplings are great too, and the pork chop broken rice dish is perfect. You can't have a bad experience here. I Highly recommend the Vietnamese iced coffee!!! If you haven't eaten here before you need too.

Excellent food at this Place! I ordered Vegatarian Dumplings and the Vegan Pho and it was better than any Vegatarian restaurants!! The Vegatarian Pho had a ton of great yummy veggies in the broth cooked perfectly. I have tried ALL of the Vietnamese restaurants in a 50-100 mile radius of RIchmond VA and Pho 1 Grill is the best in my opinion out of all of them! It is a clean, lovely place and the service was so friendly and attentive! Will come back over and over again!

They are delicious! I have gotten a few things from here and they never disappoint me. Just upset that they are closed on Mondays to only day I am close by!

We stopped in on a rainy day, perfect for downing some hot pho. The broth was delicious and flavorful, the portion size just right. I had a hard time finding my tripe (ordered the P1), but the rest of the proteins in my bowl were plentiful. My hubbie ordered the seafood bowl with thin egg noodles, which was equally tasty. Everything hit the spot! The menu offered more than just noodles. Nice decor, very nice service.

I have been with this family since they started out, as House of Vietnam. Their excellent service has always been their main factor. Some reviewers have pointed out that it seems a little over-bearing. I have known these people forever, and they just want to make sure you are enjoying everything. The first time I went there, I felt like family. They love what they do, and are great at it. The food has always been good and the prices have always been low. This is my favorite spot to eat when i'm in the mood for Vietnam. Really is one of the best. Tucked away, but worth it.

Not only is ALL the food delicious but the owners and waitstaff are friendly and attentive. After you come in the first time, they all remember you and treat you like family for each subsequent visit. I need to address the comment from one patron who said that they treat Asians differently (worse) than other customers. This is simply incorrect! Paul, his family and his staff treat everyone the same - Fantastically! There are people from all different nationalities that come to the restaurant on a regular basis and everyone is consistently treated with a great smile, friendly service and amazing food!

The food here is good. I have never ordered something I didn't enjoy. What really keeps me coming here every time I'm in town is the owners. They are so incredibly sweet and kind. I always feel incredibly welcome when I walk in.

Paul is back and as good as ever. The food is fantastic and service was great. They nicely adjusted spiciness for each of us. Everything I have had has been phenomenal. The spring rolls and peanut sauce are superb. Also a great lunch value of entree, soup, and spring roll for under $10. Love it.

Met some friends here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. I love Vietnamese and this place was great. It is close to home and the food was delicious. I had the soft spring rolls and the Rice Noodle Salad bowl with grilled chicken. The chicken was perfectly grilled and very tasty. I am excited to go back and try new things.

Top notch pho in short pump. Very fresh ingredients and great service. I come to Richmond often and the owner always makes me feel like an old friend. Well worth a stop.

Excellent food but the owner and staff set this place apart. Easily the experience with ownership. GreAt people who make great food.

Brought my family here one night. Me and my wife just came from class so we decided to have dinner here instead of cooking. I ordered mixed fried rice, and yes I got a mixed fried rice, mixed with roach on the very top of my food. They apologized and changed my food but that was it. Never even tried to compensate by a discount or anything. So I'm never coming back here. Who knows when theres a bug again on one of their food and just took it off before serving.

Out of all the Vietnamese restaurants in the area, Pho 1 Grill is the best.

Bland, bland & did I say bland? Two stars...one is for the atmosphere & the other is for the friendly staff. The food gets none. Steamed dumplings (pork) were chewy, bland & meat was dry. Summer rolls, well, yuck! Wrap was way too sticky. Shrimp in side was dry & over cooked. Summer seafood was nearly flavorless. Extremely disappointed, especially after review in newspaper (by someone who must of been a friend +/or who like flavorless food).

Love this place! Ambiance is great, second visit in two weeks tonight and the food and service were top notch. Recommend the Summer Rolls and the Crispy Spring Rolls, Broccoli in garlic sauce is the bomb! Also try the roll your own BBQ. Can we say yummy? We will be back next week for a fix!!

I had shrimp spring rolls and pho ga (delicious!). Husband had bahn mi and tom yum soup, daughter had crispy spring rolls and grilled chicken noodle salad...everything was yummy and I've been craving it ever since. Service is very attentive, too.

Food was fine for a business lunch. Not amazing, but fine. Bubble tea was delicious. Service was EXTREMELY friendly and outgoing--almost to the point of being weird. But they were quick (didn't even have time to eat half my soup before our food arrived)--even during the lunch hour rush.

We have been eating at Paul and Ellen's restaurant since they owned House of Vietnam a few years ago---this restaurant is an even better version with new and delicious additions to the menu and a hipper atmosphere. Don't miss the crispy tofu with garlic sauce (appetizer) even my tofu-hating family members love it! Crispy ginger garlic fish roll is another family favorite. If you go in on a slower night and have kids with you ask Paul to do some magic tricks to entertain your kids.

Best Vietnamese/Chinese food you will find! Ingredients are fresh and dishes are delightful - nicely prepared and beautifully presented. The vermicelli or broken rice dishes are light and perfect for a hot summer day. We've been in several times and everything we've tried has been wonderful. Nice friendly staff and a lovely restaurant.

Great to have Paul and his family back. Service is excellent, you are made to feel at home. Food was very good (had Steven's Sesame Beef) with plenty to share. Very nice decor. If you liked House of Vietnam, you'll love Pho 1 Grill.
