Six Little Bar Bistro Menu

I'm learning that each city in Hampton Roads offers a selection of restaurants worth taking the drive for. Hampton is no exception, especially the Phoebus area that I have visited before when I fell in love with The Point. This time, I visited Six, the sister restaurant to Crackers, Empire and Pacifica in Norfolk and Virginia Beach - all part of the Little Bar Bistro family. But the location of Six, in historical downtown Phoebus, adds to its charm. The reviews list Six as "not kid friendly," so I was apprehensive when I walked in with my family of three including my lil' guy. We were greeted with warm "hello's" and I was immediately put at ease. The lights, dim. The music, an alternative mix, loud enough to hear and enjoy but not overpowering. On the smaller side, long and narrow, with ten or so tables, and a bar that stretches the length of the restaurant. I studied the long list of cocktails and martinis. But with over 30 martinis, asked our waitress for help. Emma suggested the Southern Bondage martini - Southern Comfort, Ameretto, Peach, triple sec, cranberry and sour mix. Cold, fruity, with the right amount of sweet, smooth, easy to drink and very strong like a martini should be. Tapas, as described on the menu, are small savory snacks that are often served as an appetizer along with alcoholic drinks, originally in Spain. The tapas at Six, however, are influenced by a mixture of cultures -- new-American, southern, Mediterranean, Asian - so we experienced something different with each dish. Out first, the caprese chop salad, made traditionally with tomatoes, mozzarella, balsamic, evoo (extra virgin olive oil) and basil. So fresh, I asked if they used local ingredients. "Yes, when the ingredients are in season and available." The homemade potato chips were good to munch on while we waited on the shrimp & grits, served next. This was when I knew the good reviews were on point. The white stone ground grits were thick enough to hold up to the sauce - a light and flavorful cider jus - but also creamy, topped with perfectly cooked shrimp, and tender, spicy chorizo that made the dish special adding an unexpected kick of heat. Served next, oysters Rockefeller pot pie, was everything you expect from oysters rockerfeller - tender, locally caught oysters topped with parmesan cheese, spinach, garlic and bacon - but minus the oyster shell, a creamy broth added, and finished off with a flaky pie crust. Each ingredient was good on its own but even better when eaten together, offering a combination of textures and flavors. Next up, our favorite dish of the evening, a petite filet of beef stuffed with blackened blue cheese over a sauce of creamed leeks. The filet was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife, and was lightly seasoned allowing the flavor of the beef to shine. The blue cheese, blackened with additional seasonings added an intense kick of flavor and aroma and melted inside the filet like butter. We ordered a second serving. It was that good. Out comes the chicken marsala -- the most mild in flavor of our choices but not lacking. Simple and earthy, with a light marsala wine sauce and a generous amount of crostini mushrooms. It was a nice break to a lineup of strong flavors. Our last tapas, scallops, soba noodles and bok choy in a fish broth, would have been more accurately listed on the menu as soup. The texture of the scallops did not appeal to me - some tender, some rubbery. But I did appreciate the peppery spice that balanced the fish flavor of the broth. The dessert was a fun way to end the meal. S'mores served in a neat platter where each item had its own slot - a bundle of marshmellows, a Herhey's candy bar, a bunch of graham crackers, chop sticks as roasting sticks, all surrounding a blue flame. It made me feel like I was on an intimate camping trip. The second order of filet was still not served. Disappointing for a near perfect night. But they were apologetic and comp'd the dish as a make good. Tapas bars, including Six, are always more expensive than I expect because you order more since they are small bites and you want to get full, so I was a little shocked to see the bill. All in all, we all deserve to treat ourselves, and dinner at Six was nothing less than a treat. The tapas are some of the best in the area, the location is one that everyone must visit, and the martinis are a martini lovers dream - so many to choose from, interesting and strong.

    1. This is a Bistro, in other words the food is astonishingly fresh and amazing, prepared immediately for consumption. 2. This is a bar, with drinks that are consistent, amazingly constructed and balanced. We had 3 cold tapas and 3 hot tapas. Cold: The salmon bruschetta was fantastic, served with ample large dices of smoked salmon on top of crispy bruschetta tied together with garnish and savory spread. The strawberry, chevre and arugula salad is refreshing and slightly sweet with a honey vinaigrette. The tuna tartare with wasabi ginger and soy is soft, buttery and satisfying. Presentation like all the other dishes in this bistro is wonderful. Hot: The Thai chicken coconut curry with rice was gingery, creamy and spicy with a fair amount of bite and just the right amount of heat. Love this rendition of thai curry, very authentic tasting. The petite filet of beef with carrot and red potato mash and steak sauce is heaven on a fork. We asked for it medium rare and it was EXACTLY that. Perfectly done. Seared on the outside with a warm red center. The mash is flavorful but does not take over the dish and the steak sauce is piquant. The bacon wrapped pan seared salmon in a buttery leek sauce, was perfectly done, moist and the sear was crisp and tasty. This is such a satisfying piece of fish. Drinks: I had the "dark" shandy, which was a refreshing combination of dark beer and ginger ale. Never had a shandy done this way, pleasantly surprised. She had the Mai Tai. Not too sour and not too sweet, well done and portioned. Next time we are definitely staying for dessert.

This place is fantastic. Very quaint, dimly lit - super for a nice date night. We have been here a few times to try their various tapas and love it. I wish I had pictures to post! Dessert is the most fun - get the s'mores! I love a little childhood fun. Affordable, quaint, good food - and a diverse bar - what more can you ask for?

I am literally obsessed with this restaurant. It's my favorite restaurant on earth. We have a beach house here (I sound fancy!) so when I am in town, I'm either at the beach, or shopping for nautical themed clothes and jewelry.... or I am at Six for eats! I always get the petite filet and scallops, along with a third new option just so I can try something new. They have seasonal menus so the filet and scallops always change. This visit, the filet had special Six steak sauce and it was paired with buttermilk mashers. I always get my filet medium rare. The scallops had a mint and pineapple sauce. Both the filet and scallops literally melt in my mouth from the soft texture. Everything is so fresh and fancy. I have never had bad food or service here. There's def a southern flair to their service. I'm from outside Washington, DC, so I can't get enough of the waitresses calling me "hon" and "sweetpea." Ha!

I came here tonight for a second time with a friend for a spontaneous dinner. The bartender greeted us when we walked in and told us to seat ourselves. It was surprisingly empty for a Friday night at 6:30ish. There were only a couple of tables filled, we had no problem getting a seat. They have a huge selection of cocktails, martinis, and beer. I've had a couple martinis and cocktails, and it's really a hit or miss for some of them. But all of them are fairly strong. It is tapas/small plates, so I recommend getting 1-2 plates per person. 3 if you're feeling optimistic. My friend and I got 6 plates to share which was wayyyy too much. And we're both big eaters. We got the crab cakes, chicken and waffles, potstickers, mac and cheese, falafel, and goat cheese/tapana/roasted garlic/carrots/and bread. I could have gone without the falafel and potstickers. The potstickers was nothing to write home about (that might just because I've eaten my fair share of postickers/dumplings) but the sauce was decent. Falafel was just eh. The mac and cheese stood out. There was some chopped up jalepenos, and that just made it so much more delicious. Chicken and waffles was surprisingly good as well. I know a couple of reviewers thought the service was awful. But our waiter was awesome. He came by to regularly refill our waters. He noticed that I hadn't quite finished my cocktail and asked if it was okay, which I appreciated a lot. He was prompt and not too overbearing. The atmosphere was chill and relaxing. Although it's a little more than I'm willing to spend on dinner all the time, I wouldn't mind coming back to see what else they have to offer. There is plenty of street parking, and there's a public parking lot around the corner. They also don't have take out boxes if you do happen to order too much food. But then again, I doubt you have to get a take out box for tapas.

If you're in Hampton and haven't eaten here you should do yourself a favor. Never let down by the unique menu or the at home feel the house staff gives you. Cleanly and reliable service and always something new to try. I come here as much as I can and have yet to be disappointed. Perfect for a first date!

I love this place! It stays open really late on weekdays and they have good dinks. The food is phenomenal... So good. It's such a cozy and open atmosphere. It's like a hidden gem. Try it!

  • Clair M.

Is the food amazing? Yes. Are the martinis the best thing ever? Yes! Service is terrible though. The people that work here are way too cool for you. You want separate checks? Don't even think about it. They even get an attitude if you ask them to split the check half and half. I used to come here all the time but also quit going a long time ago too. I doubt I'll stop in again any time soon but man... The food and drinks. Wow. So if you want good tapas and wonderful drinks stop in, but don't expect good or friendly service. Also make sure it's payday, because you will be spending a pretty penny.

Moved here temporarily about a 1.5 years ago after being on the West Coast. After pretty much giving up on finding any decent non-chain restaurants, we decided to go here. In Scottsdale Az , this would be just some average place, but the 'bar' is so much higher there compared to here, I understood the dynamic and went in with an open mind. The place had some cool, out of the box decor, which is rare here in "in denial of its backwardness" Virginia. I had kindofa good, sad feeling sitting down. It reminded me of the plethora of fantastic places we had access to eat in Az. I'd say this is a great place, especially for the peninsula. Where most restaurants have servers filled with incompetence and surliness, our server was great - just enough pleasantness mixed with competence. i.e. she was good, fast, and didn't sit down in our booth to yak it up as if we were long lost friends. The food was just slightly high upon first glance at the menu, but when the food came out we were amazed. We had a salad, some dish with beef, which was absolutely melt in your mouth, crab cakes, and other stuff. Good beer tap selection. I'd recommend this place.

What a pleasant surprise! We were passing through Hampton for only one evening. We searched Yelp reviews for dinner recommendations and decided to try Six Little Bar Bistro. Excellent food...great tapas: fresh foods, creative combinations and flavorful! Ambiance was thoroughly enjoyable - lots of conversations among all ages. Highly recommended!

Cute, small restaurant. I was disappointed that the menu on their website didn't match the one in the location. The number of on tap beer is only 6. The food is a decent price for tapas but seems a little over priced for the location.

I like that they "refresh" their menu periodically so you never know what you're gonna eat sometimes if they have something new. I like the staff, friendly. But I LOVE the s'mores. Perfect for a date. Sexy...and whenever a guy even knows the place I'm impressed. I guess because I'm a foodie and chain restaraunts are like meh, not so much.

I was disappointed. I realize this is something different for Hampton (and I applaud them for that), but if you've had quality tapas elsewhere, I doubt you will leave happy. The food was not impressive, the bill was more than I'm used to spending for better food and the service was not good - they weren't very busy either. I've had tapas before - many times at a few different restaurants in the midwest. It's my favorite way to dine and I was thrilled when I learned my new hometown (Hampton) has a tapas restaurant. Tapas to me are these wonderful little dishes with flavors so amazing, you leave satisfied even though you don't end up eating a lot of food. At Six, the flavors seemed a combination of either a little bland or had a sour trend. To be fair, the pork potstickers were good. But still, when I left, I did not feel satisfied and a little angry at having paid so much ($75 for a table of 2) for the experience. The service wasn't good either. There were probably only 4 or 5 other tables dining at the time. We ordered salads and we waited nearly 45 minutes for them to arrive. A little put off by the wait, we quickly ordered everything else once we got our salads (usually you can order a little here and a little there and it doesn't take long for you to get it). Unlike the salad wait, everything else came out almost at once, maybe 10 minutes later...so why did the salad take so long? Another difference that I didn't care for is the bread. Normally tapas restaurants give you unlimited baskets of free bread. These are great because they're an extra filler. Plus the dishes usually have these wonderful sauces to dip the bread in while you're waiting for your next dish. Not only did we not get free bread, but we didn't have a single dish with a wonderful sauce for dipping. Instead we paid $3 for a small loaf of brown bread with a sweet butter. It was good, but I was still a little put off that we had to pay for it. In summary, I felt like we were at a bar with really overpriced appetizers, not an authentic tapas restaurant. If you want to go for drinks and just a bite, it's OK, but do not expect anything more. I will not likely return.

I really wanted to give 5 stars! Overall, my husband and I had a wonderful experience. The staff was super helpful and friendly, and the vast majority of the food was quite memorable and so yummy! We ordered some drinks and their cocktails are interesting and fun, although, the order of the ingredients in the description I think should match the order of the major flavor components. Be aware that this did not always seem to be the case with the drinks we got. Some items farther down the list seemed to be a lot more present in the flavor profile than expected, but otherwise, we were very happy with our drinks! We ordered a bunch of hot and cold tapas to get a feel for everything they offer, which is varied and exciting! Things like the simple hummus of the day and goat cheese with olive tapenade were excellent when they could have been just fine. The salt cod fritters were stellar, the chicken and waffles were super delectable, I def had trouble sharing that one in particular. Good portions and great value overall. We skipped dessert in favor of trying a dish or two more, but the smores looked fun and awesome. The reason I could not give the 5 stars in the end was one of those final dishes, we ordered the potstickers, something we were hoping would be awesome like the rest of our meal, and they were a major letdown. They were an odd extra crunchy texture on the outside like they maybe had freezer burn, although I doubt that was the case, they were bland, and the kicker. . They weren't even all hot, one was actually stone cold in the center. That being said, you should def go. If 95% of our night was that great, I would not hesitate to go back, but, I would def not order the potstickers again myself. Check it out, enjoy, maybe order in waves, because everything comes out very quickly!

This is a wonderful spot in Phoebus, about a mile and a half from downtown Hampton. I had a good feeling when I walked in and Son Volt was playing over the speakers. The menu rotates seasonally and I loved this past winter's buffalo sauced-fried oyster cobb salad. I was underwhelmed by the shrimp 'n grits (portion and flavor), and was blown away by the butterscotch bread pudding. I also sampled a scallop special (good but not great) and a variety of other dishes and really was never disappointed with anything else. The service can be a bit snarly or super sweet, just depending upon who is working. Monday is 1/2 bottle of wine night. Most dishes are billed as small plates and most range from $7 to $13 each. A couple plates per person seems to be plenty, depending upon which ones you get, and there is ample variety for satisfying most every kind of palate.

Very cool, hip vibe, a great place to get your gastro-pub on. Many delicious tap pas-stly plates to choose from. The wait staff are super cool and down to earth. A great place to eat and sample great dishes. Nice vibe - a great place to take a date if you're looking for something off the beaten path. Nice beer selection also, with a rather large mixed drink/martini menu also.

I've been meaning to try this place for a while, but the tunnel traffic provided me with just the push I needed. We stopped to escape the tunnel congestion and wait out the traffic, but stayed for the food. We started with the guacamole with jalapeños and roasted tomatoes. Heaven on a plate! The avocado was blended until creamy and the roasted tomatoes added a nice salty, smokey flavor. Some of the best guacamole I've ever had! Next, we had fried green tomatoes. They were not battered and "fried" in the traditional sense, they were free of batter and were seared, I think. But whatever it was, it was delicious. Savory green Tomatoes + salty, creamy pimento cheese = perfection. We also got the Blistered Green beans Onions marinated in vinegar. Really nice texture and lots of bold flavors. The Edamame served cold with lime and sriacha salt was fantastic. We got a pear and leek quesadilla to end. I wish we'd stopped with the previous dishes. The flavors weren't compatible at all and I just found it odd and unappetizing. But with everything else being creative, bs, unique, and delicious, I'd give this place 4.5 stars!

My gf and I had 2 tapas. They were both excellent. I had a DFH beer and I can't remember what drink she had, but the service and food were excellent. It was a slow Sunday early evening.

I love this place, just wished they did reservations. I don't like waiting for a while with a large group. The food. Amazing. Palate is nice. All of the flavor components are well. Tapas size. Specials often. Drinks. Even better! Best drinks on the Peninsula. Dessert. Yup. Its even good for a desert only place. Like I mentioned above, my only objection is the no reservation thing. Seating is a chore some evenings and coordinating with larger groups, waiting for a while just isn't appropriate. Hope they make a change soon. I'd like to visit here rather than go down to Norfolk.

Another gem in Phoebus! I love this place! I was so happy to hear that they were going to open here, so close to home. Use to travel to Norfolk all the time to the original spot. The food is to die for. The menu changes with the season so there is always something different. Nightly specials, and great drinks. It's cosy with friendly staff. Great place to hang out with friends or a date.

This is probably the best local spot I've been to. I passed it up for a while and decided to pop in. The goat cheese/roasted pepper/olive tapanade with baguette was likely the best combination. Their meats are butchered direct; full shoulders and loins expertly trimmed. The filet is insane, it just melts! The General Tso's cauliflower is an interesting and delicious idea! Intimate service: chat with the cook, the managers. Just a great atmosphere. Will be back, without a doubt.

Overall, a decent place but not worthy of 4 stars on yelp. Food was mediocre at best. Service and ambiance were average. However, if you're going for drinks and ambiance and don't mind paying a little more for liquor, this place will suffice. Ambiance: I liked it. The restaurant is greater in length than it is in width. One side of it has a bar along its length and the other a series of about 9 tables. Room to walk exists in between. A red lamp hangs from the ceiling above the tables. The walls are not plain, although i cannot remember what was done to them. Its small but cozy, could even be romantic. Food and Drinks: Overall, I was not impressed with the flavor of the food. Portions, keeping in mind that the items are tapas were perfect, however. We shared the following: 1) Frenched turkey leg / Jamaican jerk / curry collards 2) Lump crab & smoked gouda stuffed jalapenos 3) Bread & house butter 4) Roma tomatoes / basil / fresh mozzarella / evoo powder / balsamic redux 5) Smoked salmon bruschetta / dill cream cheese / fried caper The french turkey leg was lightly flavored but the jamaican jerk was overwhelming. However, the meat was soft and fell off the bone. The the ingredients in the stuffed jalapenos the unique flavor or kick to them as I was expecting. They tasted like something I could have made at home. The house butter was a honey butter and it was delicious. The bread was soft. The only problem I had with this dish was that the butter was hard to spread. The roma tomatoes and mozza w basil was a great disappointment. The mozza was not very flavorful and the the roma tomatoes were just sliced tomato, they had not been flavored AT ALL. This was a waste. On a positive note it was the dish with the nicest presentation. The smoked salmon brushetta was my favorite of the bunch although again nothing to write home about. What I liked about it most was that the smoked salmon was plentiful. The literally piled as much as they could onto that brushettta. However, the cream cheese was barely there. Drinks included a watermelon martini for me and a licorice flavored concoction for my friend. My watermelon martini was GREAT. Strong and flavorful. My friend said she enjoyed her drink as well. We had originally come for the cheese fondue of the day. It was a blue cheese concoction. We do not like blue cheese but substitution for a different cheese was not available. Service: I always like to end on a positive notes, so lets begin with what irked me about the service. Our waitress did not come check on us often and she forgot my martini. We noted that this was likely because she was busy chatting with other customers at the bar. When she finally realized that she had forgotten my drink and brought it, I did not receive an apology. The place was not busy so I cannot justify these things. However, on the positive side she kindly described her favorite drinks on the menu to us and provided information on the food items available. Price: The food items are fairly priced but the drinks are a bit on the steeper end. The two drinks alone came to about $20 dollars before tax and tip. However, overall not bad as our 5 tapas and 2 drinks came to about 50 before tax and tip.

The atmosphere is great! The tapas are the best you could hope for! The libations are great! Unfortunately the server we had tonight was really terrible. No manners at all. I don't think she has ever learned what hospitality is. Customers are not there to be of service to you. Some real server training would go a LONG way. If my friend didn't cook there, I would have walked out before our food orders were taken.

Let's get this out of the way first. I love this place! It has everything I want in a restaurant. It isn't huge - maybe a dozen tables and as well as bar seating. There are pools of light over each table making it pleasant but not too bright. The bar has a great selection of beer, wine and mixed drinks. The Sazerac was particularly good. Now to the food. Keep in mind that this is a Tapas place which means that the plates are small. Not necessarily a bad thing especially if you need to be mindful of portion. They do offer to make any plate an entrée size for an extra $10 but I don't think that is necessary because the small plates give you options to try several items and not be stuffed at the end of the meal. I had their tomato, mozzarella, basil plate, sweet potato au gratin, scallop bacon and hollandaise and pork ginger pot stickers. You can tell there is a great attention to detail in each plate. My favorite was the pork ginger pot stickers. The outside was slightly crispy and the inside was soft and moist. The ginger sauce was flavorful and slightly spicy. If I could offer one suggestion, the waiter seemed to be working too many tables and could have stopped by our table a bit more often. I will keep Little 6 on my list of places to visit again when I am in the Tidewater area.

More S'mores, please! I went to this place because a friend told me they served s'mores. Turns out, this place has it all! Our server was great! She kept the drinks coming and was very down-to-earth and sweet. This is a great Tapas bar and definitely a place to start the night off right! I was able to try the pork belly and was literally in heaven. There are cold and hot tapas, and always something new to try! They have seasonal butter, and part of the menu is constantly changing. I have no idea what else is on the menu for dessert because I always get the s'mores. I like it because it is nothing fancy. Just a little fire at your table with hershey's chocolate :)

I am a regular. I love the fusion tapas concept (try little bits of everything!). They have a really comprehensive variety of different liquors and a nice mixed drink list. The servers are super personable, and the food has been "on" more often than not. The kicker...their kitchen is open to serve food until 1:30am!!!!! In a town where restaurant kitchens close at 9p, this is a bonus and a rarity. One of the few trade offs would be the price-to-value ratio. You definitely can end up paying more for several little plates rather than one large plate, but it is definitely worth it for those of us who crave more than a little variety. Check out their sister restaurants in Va Beach and Norfolk...Pacifica, Crackers and Empire. I've been to them all, and enjoyed every single one of them ;-)

I have been coming here for a couple years now and the food has been consistently amazing!!!! The scallops are a go to item as well as the s'mores. Monday night is half priced bottle of wine night which is when you'll most likely find me there.....Service, however, does not get the same praise. The guy behind the bar with the bad shorts and baseball hat does not make you feel welcomed, does not carry on any conversation (only nods his head as an acknowledgment) and acts like any request for food or libation is a burden. If you don't like your job go home! If you're not a people person you shouldn't be behind the bar. Bring back Kelly, she was awesome!!! Before I go back, I want to call and get homeboy's schedule so I can go on a night that he isn't working.

One of my favorite spots in the Hampton Roads area. The menu changes but everything I've had there has been awesome. Every time I've took a friend or my fiancée they've had a great experience. Good food and strong drinks what more can you ask for. Be sure you check the whiteboard in the back to make sure you check out the specials.

By far my favorite restaurant in Virginia...possibly my favorite restaurant anywhere! There wasn't a thing I didn't love: From the wine, to the scallops (absolute perfection), to the tomato mozzarella basil plate , and the bread pudding desert. Even the butter was a delightful sea salt confection of a tasty treat! The atmosphere was so on point I would go there for a date, or bring my laptop and sit at the bar like I did tonight. The subtle red lamps above every table create the ideal combination of visible, working light and ambiance. My waitress was a sweetheart and after dinner I hung out and talked with the chefs for a bit. This place absolutely stole my heart. I'll be back any time I am within a 50 mile radios!

Great food, great atmosphere. The bartender was very friendly and attentive. Granted, the bar was not very full, but it is STILL the best service I've had at any bar. It makes for a very quiet and fun late-night hangout.

Warm atmosphere, decor, and the service are what makes this place inviting. Tapas are overpriced and I didn't get what I paid for. Beer selection was impressive and unique. The tapas need some improvement or an overhaul.

Six is a wonderful place for socializing and enjoying tapas. The food is quite delicious, truly the result of wonderful cooks. I always hesitate about what to order, but once I taste it I am quite pleased. The bread and butter for $3 is no ordinary bread and butter. It's a baguette toasted so that the outside is crunchy and toasty and the inside is warm and slightly chewy accompanied with an herbed/spiced butter of some sort (depending on the whim of the cook, I suspect). I will unashamedly admit that the butter was so good that I proceeded to eat the rest of it with a spoon. I could honestly order multiple plates of the bread and butter. I had the clam chowder which was broth based, not cream or tomato based and it was wonderful. So flavorful and satisfying. The one thing that truly bothers me is that the restaurant states on the menu that they do not split checks, with some quip about "what's a few bucks between friends." I always forget that they don't split checks and I rarely carry cash. So I have had to ask for an exception, which they have so far always granted (about three times). But it would be nice if they would consider customer service in this regard and axe that policy.

A hidden gem in Hampton! One of our most favorite spots to eat. Fantastic drink selection & don't forget to save room for the s'mores. They bring a little fire to your table :)

Great tapas and wine. You can make s'mores at the table for dessert. The atmosphere is nice, but the service wasn't the best- the waitress was a bit ditzy and couldn't seem to get the order right or the number of place settings.

Where to begin? I had a chance to visit this place while in town for business. We were looking for a tapas place, and this happened to be near by. I was instantly impressed by the staff and decor of this joint, but when the food hit the table, I knew I was in love. We had 7 dishes that night, and everyone of them was perfectly executed. Scallops in a bacon and cream sauce, Ceviche with peppers, corned beef stuffed eggrolls, Potstickers, Filet special with more bacon, Edamame with limes, and cream brûlée. Probably the best seared scallop I'd ever had. As we were leaving, completely stuffed and content, the waiter mentioned that the next day they'd have a new menu. We made plans to come back later in the week. Two days later, we were back in Six Little Bar Bistro. Again, we ordered 7 dishes. Seared tuna, Scallops in a red pepper sauce, Filet with a red wine pan sauce, jerked chicken skewers, to name a few.... followed by a cobbler that was incredible. I thought my previous scallop was phenomenal, but these were even better. I'm pretty sure the chef noticed our tears of joy, and came to the table to talk to us about his food. He was very friendly and fun to chat with. 14 dishes over two days, and every single one I'd order again.... I will go back every time I'm in town.

My boyfriend and I love this restaurant! They change up their menu every few months, and they have different specials every night. Their bread and homemade butter are always amazing, and flavors you may never think of. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. It's so fun to order 3 or 4 dishes to share. They have a great beer selection, as well! We've probably been about 15 times and never had anything that wasn't amazing!

Stylish location, nice staff...classy feel. Good selection of food and drink, and I recommend "six" to my friends. Great jambalaya! Though I feel the genre of the bar, slightly larger portion sizes would add another half star to the rating.

Delicious tapas bar. And, for the record, I want to steal their wine cooler...you can't miss it...says "FIRST AID" on it in big red letters with a matching red cross. Classic. Expec to pay $8 to $12 per tapas plate. Drinks are reasonable (~$6) and portions are sized such that four or five of these lil morsels will make for a decent meal for two people. Not a place you'd expect to find in Pheobus (sp?). Old part of town, new kind of place. Very cozy, semi-romantic. Service is top notch. The smores dessert was pretty good...served on a compartmented tray with all the required parts to make your treats, including a small flaming...something...to roast your marshmallows over. As a reminder....if you flick a flaming marshmallow...it very easily becomes a flaming projectile. That's all I'm going to say about that...

If you haven't been to Phoebus for an evening of gastronomic adventure, you are missing out. Of all the Little Bar Bistros, Six is by far my favorite (I haven't been to Pacifica, but compared to Crackers and Empire). The location and atmosphere are the clenchers. The waitstaff are the best throughout all the Little Bar Bistros. Friendly, pleasant, talkative (but not overly), helpful, accommodating. I can't say too many positive things. The menu rotates seasonally, and I've never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. They have a great list of wine and beers. They carry local brews on tap. The atmosphere is quiet, warm, and inviting. The interior reminds me of an old pub, but with a hip twist. If you want a fun night out drinking and eating, be sure to check this place out. If you're on the Southside, it's just a skip through the tunnel.

I LOVE this place. I was a litlte bummed when Scotty the bartender left. He would pick out the best wines for me whenever I walked in, he was never off and paired everything really well with our plates. When they first opened they would do a delish goat cheese fondue. As a lover of goat cheese, I was not sure anything on the menu could get better than that. I was wrong. Last time my husband and I had an amazing rabbit stew, the scallops and the hummus. It was delish. I love that they change the menu seasonally and I've never had a bad 'special'. I like this place better than Empire and Crackers, its seems more upscale and more conducive to dates, not a night out at the bar.

I have been fortunate enough to live around the corner from this establishment for the past three years. It's a charming place with tremendous food and staff. I have sampled many of the dishes and several of the martinis. Be wary of the martini rule, one isn't enough, two is just right and three....don't consider it unless you are walking and crazy. As for the food....delicious. I have LOVED the scallops and the chorizo dish in the past. Have become a vegan and find the offerings still delicious, and surprisingly I still have quite a few choices, which is honestly unusual. If you are looking for a treat, or simply like good food, consider this place....or don't so I don't have to compete for a table.

This is a nice little place to go to for date night. Our service was great, food was delish & they have an original and extensive drink menu. I liked the atmosphere, it wasn't overly loud like some bar/restaurants can be.

Found this on Yelp and decided to take a chance, came out a clear winner. I was a little reluctant as I was parking because the neighborhood wasn't exactly appealing, but we were glad we stayed. They have a great selection of delicious tapas and craft beers. We ended up with a $160 tab for four because we simply couldn't stop ordering. I would definitely recommend the gyro and mahi-mahi tacos, we re-ordered both dishes. The service was friendly and appropriately talkative without being intrusive. The decor was average, but a student sitting up front playing saxophone for tips definitely helped out the atmosphere.

We moved out of Hampton 8 months ago, and we miss this place so much. When we made plans to come back to Hampton for one night to see family, we KNEW we had to stop here and eat while we were here. We stopped in at about 10pm on a Saturday, and enjoyed 4 lovely dishes. The food was as sublime as I remember it always had been, and the service was superb as usual. We enjoyed the lovingly-remembered Pot Stickers (oh man, how I love those), and also had white bean and jalepeno dip served with lightly fried pita crisps. We also had a beef filet served over a sweet potato hash, and the star of the night: Creamy marsala gnocchi and portabella mushrooms. Now, I don't even LIKE mushrooms...but this dish was DIVINE. So so so good...velvety, rich, and sinful. We ended up dredging bites of the filet through the marsala and mushrooms, and it was an orgasm in the mouth. The chef mentioned he might combine the two dishes in some way for the next seasonal menu in April. I will probably have to make a trip back to Hampton every season to try the new menus. This is THE BEST restaurant I have ever eaten at, and it just keeps getting better. Keep it up, guys!

Good food...not enough wait staff on a busy Sat night....waited an hour for a table and another hour before anyone came by to serve us...Fun vibe, but doesn't excuse the lack of service. Recommend going on a quieter night of the week.

I've been in love with Six since my first visit. Drinks are a great bang for your buck. The food, I can't say enough good things about it, menu changes often so get there while you can and visit again!

We arrived at Six on a Friday around 7 and it was somewhat busy. It should be noted that there is no sign outside of the restaurant, or for that matter, inside the restaurant. Even after we sat ourselves, we were still unsure if we were in the right place because the MENU didn't even have the word SIX on it and we almost got up and left because we thought we were in the wrong place. Very strange. There should definitley be more branding around the place, if nothing else a SIGN out front. It seemed like a pretty casual place, lots of different types of people. Despite there being 2 of us, our waiter only gave us 1 menu. I asked for another and she said she would "try" to get me another, which she never did. Okay then. Much like the other restaurants owned by the same people (Pacifica, Crackers, Empire), Six has a huge cocktail and tapas selection divided into hot and cold. My friend stuck with wine all night and I chose the watermelon basil martini and the Mescal Sunrise (I wanted to try Mescal), and word to the wise, it was basically a strong screwdriver. Nonetheless, good drinks. We ordered 3 tapas each: 1. Seared scallops w/ butternut squash- the scallops were divine, the butternut squash was TERRIBLE. 2. Tuna stir fry- average 3. caprese salad-pretty good, too much EVOO 4. crab lettuce wraps-delicious 5. Tomato & avacado salad 6. Smoked salmon with capers/cream cheese- highlight of the meal. Very much like a Boston Lox. Much to our chagrin, our salads were brought out LAST, which we were pretty annoyed with considering it was the waitress who never corrected this. When we wanted to take some plates home, she said they had no boxes but she could wrap it in SARAN WRAP. Saran wrap? What, so I can walk to my car with wet tomatoes and vinegar dripping onto the palm of my hand and seats of my car? No thanks. They are also incredibly understaffed, with only 1 waitress for the entire place all night. I know its Hampton and things are more go with the flow here, but I wonder if the owners of Little Bar Bistro know that this restaurant is not up to their standards. Considering the poor service and average food, I will not be returning to Six or recommending it to others until they get it together.

The tapas are top notch, and the service is excellent. This little bistro could be easily overlooked from the outside. But, it is clearly the best tapas restaurant that I've been too. Must try the clam chowder, and Mac and cheese. And the drinks are phenomenal!

Wow! I'm so happy I found this place. Thank you yelp. The wait staff is friendly and attentive. The drink menu is reason enough to try this place. The tapas are properly proportioned and well executed. This my number one restaurant in the Hampton area. Of course I've only lived here for 3 months. Things might change.

Best restaurant outside of downtown Norfolk. Sister restaurant to Crackers and Empire, both well known for their Tapas. Extensive drink menu, unique craft beers and wines make this an awesome date night go to place! My husband and I couldn't decide which we liked best- the oyster Rockefeller pot pie or shrimp and grits with Cider Au Jus...YUM! The menu changes with the season and the specials are creative. This is the jewel of Hampton in charming Phoebus.

Don't have much to say, but this is the best Tapas restaurant I have been to. Each small plate was incredible with bold flavors. Just good yummy food on a plate. So glad I randomly found this place using Yelp and Urbanspoon. We will go back and to all the other restaurants as part of this small collective of places. I LOVE IT!!!

Don't have much to add to what other reviewers have said. This place is wonderful. Our server was phenomenal. The food was very good, a good value for tapas; loved the mac n cheese (did not require hot sauce to be delicious). I'll be back.

This is a nice little cozy tapas spot in the Hampton area. Its like a real bar with tables for seating like a traditional spanish tapas bar. They had a daily special menu and a regular menu to choose from. We started out with the Seared Scallops which must say are dreamy and the only way i can explain it or compare it to is Food Porn. It was on the pan/grill just enough so it was still very fresh and not rubbery and it was a giant sized one too. Next i indulged in the Lamb Chops which were not as great as the Scallops but very good. It was very fresh and red inside and not overseasoned. Next item was the Tiger Shrimp with peanut sauce which we devoured in no time simply because of the freshness of the seafood in this area and the great cooking. Next was the Rockfish which was cooked on the grill and you can eat of the skin as you please. It reminded of a few great Japanese restaurants that i have been to and didnt disappoint one bit. Besides this we also indulged in a Beer called Liefman Cherry Lambic which was very flavorful and sweet at the same time. I didn't know what to expect but it was a pleasant surprise. Finally was the Sopapillas for dessert and i must say every bite was sinful but worth the indulgence. I would love to come to this place and explore more items on the menu before i get satisfied but nonetheless this is a hidden treasure to check out.

OK... seriously this hole in the wall has the best menu and best food that I have had in a long time and all at a very reasonable price to boot. I gad the grilled chicken which was perfectly cooked and seasoned with the jalapeno and cheddar risotto... oh man, that made my Texas heart cry a little, spicy like home! The couple next to me had the sopapillas and I couldn't resist . WTF did they do? Slice off a piece of cloud fry it and serve it with honey and cream, I believe so! I will going back for dessert and drinks my next run through!!!

Everything we ordered was fantastic! We pretty much ordered straight off of the daily specials menu (which of course changes daily) but highlights were filet w/ spicy pineapple glaze, spicy mango & goat cheese spread & candied bacon butter...my fiancé literally took a finger to the last little bit! Off the regular menu pork pot stickers were amazing (especially sauce). Excellent service and a great drink selection (something like 50+ specialty cocktails & martinis).

Yes, the service is a little slow. I probably wouldn't come here if I needed to be somewhere afterwards. Other than that, I really enjoyed Six. A friend who lives in Hampton took me there when I visited last weekend. Not hard to spend a lot of money at Six. We split four dishes and spent about 50 bucks. The food was delicious! Best scallops I've had at a restaurant in a long, long time. I also had an excellent Margarita. I would not come here if I was starving. This is a tapas place, people! The portions are teeny. Also nice to experience non-Spanish tapas. I will definitely return next time I visit Hampton. Six is a nice little gem nestled amongst the generic fast-food chain restaurants.

I went to the place because of the pictures on yelp but when I asked about the pictures they didn't have it on the menu because the menu changes frequently. But the food was good. Don't come here hungry unless you are going to order more than one tapa. I had the cheese plate (which was divine), veggie pot stickers ( 2 orders) and my husband had the lamb gyros (2 orders). The food was great! The service I give 2 stars. They were very nice but they had one waitress for about 10 tables. I was so happy to find this in Hampton. The next time I go I'm ordering the s'mores.

I love reading the (very) few negative reviews about this place; where else are you people going to go? Dennys? Maybe the International House of Pancakes? I hate to sound like the snob I am but I'm from San Francisco and this place of intentional and thoughtful execution could fit in anywhere in that fine city of the most per capita restaurants in the country and fine bars full of character. If you want a place that is relaxed and high class in a casual and thoughtful way; this is your place...as far as I can tell, the only place like it within 50 miles.

Little Six bills itself as a Tapas bar, but it's far from a true Tapas place. Yes, the dishes are small and meant to be shared, but they have little, if any Spanish influence. That's not to say they're no good -- quite the contrary. It's one of the few places on the Virginia Peninsula that offers food that's been carefully prepared and done with a little craftsmanship. The food is reasonably priced, and most often, very good. The beer and drink list is exceptional for Hampton Roads, although a tad $$$. The room is long, narrow, but warm and inviting. Exposed brick and memories of Phoebus ca. 1900. Six is sometimes uneven, the service is OK. But, one wishes there more just like Six on the Peninsula, someone who can save this country from the Applebee's and McDonalds...

Six, or as some call it, Little Bar Bistro, is one of several 'sister' locations in Hampton Roads that serve awesome tapas and cocktails. It's seriously out-of-this-world good, and they serve a wide variety of little dishes. Try the Pan-Seared Duck with Raspberry Glaze or the Barbecue Shrimp wrapped in bacon on a bed of cheese grits. In fact, go with a friend and order several dishes each & share. This is a wonderful way to dine. As far as cocktails go, check out the Mescal Sunrise or the Red Snapper. The décor is really interesting. It's got a voodoo jazz lounge chic appeal to it. Oh, and the staff is really cool. The Manager, Scott, takes a lot of pride in the music selection for each evening. He's actually a talented local DJ. Understand that this is a pricey establishment, but it's done perfectly.

This place is fun!! It's nice to locate a sophisticated option in the Hampton Roads area where terrible chain restaurants are the norm. The menu offeres a variety of flavors both in terms of hot and cold tapas and a delightful array of cocktails!! My friends and I tried several different varieties of drinks and fare. Everything was delicious, so I won't taint your selection. Go with whatever suits your fancy. It will taste great. Sadly, this place isn't appreciated enough in this region. Many people around here don't even know what tapas are. I hope this place can stay in business, it's a fresh change from what's out there. Four stars for how great the food, drink, and setting. However, our wait staff and the kitchen were a little on the slow side. There weren't a terrible amount of diners, and we would have thought things could have been a little more timely. And, while it was TOTALLY worth the price, we did end up spending much more here than we traditionally do when we got out. But, you do get a much more sophisticated tasting meal.

Little Bar Bistro Six in Hampton is a quaint little place renowned for its exceptional tapas menu. Everything is prepared with the utmost detail and attention, ensuring delicious plates every time. They have a gigantic drink menu featuring many different home-made and original martinis. This awesome menu is combined with a wonderful staff who take the time to get to know their patrons. Because of this, there is added value and everyone feels at home at the bar. The general manager, Scott, is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. He takes interest in all his patrons and is available for great conversations whenever the place isn't packed to the gills. This is definitely worth checking out if you're in Hampton and looking for something different, delicious, and fun. One point though: it is a bit pricey.

Love, Love, Love this place! The atmosphere is great and the food is outstanding. We had Fried Artichoke Hearts that were cooked to perfection, a Grilled Filet of Beef with Worchestire Mashers, Scallops that were out of this world and the Drunken Goat Grilled Cheese (Grilled Cheese Du Jour). Every single bite was truly amazing. Our enjoyment didn't stop at the food... the drinks were made to perfection as well. We LOVED and miss the Old Crackers. This (although bigger) still seems to capture some of that old magic. YUM.

You will never find a more perfectly cooked scallop. Ok....so that's not the only thing about this place =) Six is hands down a fantastic establishment and Phoebus should be more than proud to have it! I've found the "cold" menu items very refreshing and a great opener to the main dinning experience. "Hot" is where its at though! Six offers a seasonal menu so if I tell you what I had and how amazing it was most likely it won't be there when you go, but I assure you their Scallops with coconut curry sauce is to die for. Seriously I wanted to drink up that sauce with my straw. The beef and mashers with mustard sauce was very good and the strong taste that mustard can have did not over power the dish. WIN! Also the shrimp with asparagus risotto paired perfectly. Not to mention the wide selection of beer, wine, and other cocktails you'll never go wrong with a selection from the Brooklyn Brewery. This place is a priced a bit more than the typical chain restaurant (even though it is a chain itself), if you consider yourself to be a "foodie" it is FAR worth the trip. Just go and you won't be disappointed!

Tried a new restaurant (new to us) down in Phoebus. It is a tapas style restaurant so think of everything in appetizer size portions. My wife and I ordered a couple of different things and when they arrived ordered a couple of other things. Worked out great; food was arriving as we finished previous items, we were able to try all different things, everything was served as it was cooked so it was hot when it arrived at the table, and the food was outstanding and unique. Next time we go we are going to try and sit at the bar behind which is the cooking area. It doesn't seem right to call it a kitchen because it is so small but you can watch them cook everything. Also, has full bar and wide selection of beers both on draft and bottle. Well worth a visit if you're looking for something different. littlebarbistro.com/six-…

I love the menu. It changes and I love the creativity of the chef in the choices available. In addition to the great food, they have a full bar. I do like to sip on the single-malt scotch, but they have a great selection of martinis. Yum.

I guess I was expecting/wanting traditional tapas, but instead found an eclectic selection of non-Spanish 'small plates'. All that I tried were phenomenal! Service was excellent, beer pricing very good, and the place had a cool, funky atmosphere. I was just passing through on business; the locals have quite a gem in this restaurant. I'll be back, if I can.

While in Hampton for work, I found myself getting sick of the bland food from the generic american chains. I had not expected to find this charming little tapas place in the middle of Phoebus. The decor is very quirky, sofas up front, small tables in the bank, with a bar running along the side. Any place with a refrigerator labelled FIRST AIDE being filled with vodkas scores extra points with me. The music was quirky, much like the decor. The food was good, but not particularly distinctive. In another city with more variety in restaurants, Six probably would get passed over for other options. The beer selection was very diverse, with many excellent selections prominently displayed over the bar with descriptions written for each.

I pass this everyday to and from work and finally decided to visit on a Friday night. It such a weird location- there is really nothing else around there... But I guess that just means less competition. Really fantastic tapas, huge cocktail and wine menu. I was most impressed with the scallops and least impressed with the asparagus. My only complaint is the price to volume ration- between the two of us, we had 4 glasses of wine and 5 small plates, which ended up right around $100 and I was still hungry when I left.

In town on business, I went here based on the first review. ("Thanks, yelp!" wink, grin, thumbs up, freeze frame!) I was really surprised to find out about a place like this existing in Hampton, VA?! Anyway, the first review is spot-on! It really is a "hip little tapas bar". The place is really cool and you can tell every detail about the place is intentional and is meant to work together and it really does. Even the music was really good (hence 5 stars). I find a lot of times, when a place is designed up like this, they try to use it as an excuse to overcharge for the food. That's not the case here. The food pricing is on par with the quality which is excellent. One other thing worth noting, they have a HUGE beer selection and it looks to be all good selections from the various rungs of the beer snobbery ladder from the top (shit like Leffe blond) to the dirt on which the ladder stands (PBR, don't get me wrong, I'm at that level most of the time!) Also, they have a ton of cocktail creations that look pretty interesting littlebarbistro.com/six-… and some could make for a pretty wild tapas bar experience, INDEED!

I am actually upset the scale only goes to 5. This is a ten star. Pricey BUT WORTH IT! Beer selection is superb. Take some friends and order to share (which I think is the point). Empanada...empanada...empanada...filet...pork...actually the sweet butter is weird, but go!

very small but so nice to have in pheobus. Really enjoy having such a quite nice place in such a remote area. Hampton needs more things like this. the secret of this place is anything found in their "emergency medicine" refridgerators!

First and foremost. The sopapillas are to DIE for. Amazing. Just go there and eat those. If you want more variety, all of the tapas are interesting. Maybe on the slightly pricier side, but not that bad when compared to tapas places in bigger cities. All around a terrific place, good atmosphere, good service, good food. What else is there? Oh yeah, good sopapillas. Hmmmmmmmmmm.

We went here on a Saturday night, it was a little busy but still lots of seats available at the table and the bar. The service was TERRIBLE all around. The bartender took forever to take our drink orders, was impatient while we were trying to decide what to eat, the food took forever to come out and my dish was not served with my party's (apparently they can only cook one dish at a time? That's the only explanation I can come up with as to why the food was served so far apart). I got the grilled shrimp in a sun dried tomato sauce on fried eggplant and while the shrimp were pretty good nothing excuses the service. Plus one of my friends ordered the lettuce wraps and while several of us tried them, none of us thought they were edible. The staff had an attitude about everything from us trying to get their attention when our drinks ran out to getting and paying for the check. I will NEVER return here.
