Sammy T’s Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

My husband and I came to this restaurant for the first time while visiting downtown Fredericksburg one evening, at about 6:00 p.m. Upon entering, we stood at the front for about a minute as no hostess was present, and then a waitress walked by. I asked her if she knew how long the wait was for two, and she replied that she didn't know because she didn't work at the front, made no offer to get another staff to help us, and walked off. When the hostess finally appeared about another minute later, we put our name on the wait list and ended up getting seated sooner than the 15 minute wait time, which was nice. Upon being seated, it took at least 5 minutes for a waitress to even come to our table. When she did, and she had a cold attitude might I add, we ordered beverages, a chips and salsa appetizer, and our entrees. About 15 to 20 minutes after ordering, our waitress had not even come back by our table, nor had we even been brought our chips and salsa. When our waitress finally passed by us, mind you not even intending to stop at our table, we flagged her down asking for our appetizer and drink refils, which she brought after about 5 more minutes. After about 30 minutes later, for a total of about 55 minutes after initially ordering (no exaggeration) we received our entrees. My husband had ordered the fish and chips and I had ordered a reuben. I had long since wanted to just pay for our drinks and appetizer and leave, but my husband was so hungry by then and didn't want to take even longer to go somewhere else, so we had ended up staying. Anyway, the fish and chips were good, but my reuben was poor quality-not even good by diner standards. I was especially furious because of how awful the service was and how long it took to get the food. Major disappointment. All in all, yes, they were busy, and I can appreciate that, but as I told my husband- if you are unable to provide acceptable service due to how busy you are, than do not even seat people to begin with. To allow patrons to be seated in your restaurant but then provide awful service is far is worse than to turn them away. I addition to that, there was no apology from our waitress for the wait time for the appetizer and/or entrees, which tells me that the level of service we received is just status quo there. A couple of explanations or apologies about the wait for food would have even softened the blow, but nope. And our waitress came to the table maybe a total of four times during the 1+ hour we were there. I would NEVER return to this restaurant, and do not recommend anyone to come here, unless perhaps you are going there for their vegetarian and vegan menu options, which actually make up the majority of the menu (be prepared for bad service). Perhaps that is where they get their following from, but to say I was severley disappointed would be an understatement. I am easy to please, just give me acceptable service and I won't even mind sub-par food, but this place was a joke.

The best spot for vegan / vegetarian food . Went on a quite Sunday night & the restaurant was quite but staff was friendly and service was quick. I ordered the hummus platter which was very fresh and good variety of veggies , plenty for 2 people. My friend got the adventurer which I was Abel to snag a bite & it was amazing . Will be back & next time I am getting the adventure and I am not even a vegetarian . They are open till 10 & plenty of street parking !

Loved it!! Top 3 nachos of my life, amazing crabcake sandwich... best meal at our table was unreal: The Linwood - grilled chicken breast, with bacon, melted Swiss cheese, etc! Amazing!!

Absolutely love this restaurant. The lemon tahini depressing is to die for, honestly it can be put on anything and taste well. My favorite item on the menu is the Apple Cheddar Melt. I always get it with sour dough bread and it comes with cheddar cheese, green apples, and sunflower seeds on top. AMAZING. I have never had bad food here which is why I always come back. My one complaint is that the booths are not very comfortable. The back are just flat planks of wood, so if you have a bad back or are generally uncomfortable with bad seating you will not like the booths. The service is not the fastest. It may take awhile for your drink to get refilled, but the service is nothing to dock them on.

Cool place with awesome food. Very friendly and accommodating staff! Our server Rachel was great! Recommend the black bean burger and the tempeh! We lucked into this place when we searching for vegetarian restaurant, fantastic! Simple but good.

My husband and I love this place - we go almost every weekend. We're vegetarians and appreciate the variety of options. Favorites include: spinach foldover, falafel salad (Ellen's)and black bean burger in tortilla (adventurer). There's also nice non-veggie options. Staff is friendly and attentive.

We discovered this when Soup and Taco had too long of a wait. I had the black bean cake burrito, which was amazingly good and my hubby had the spinach fold over, which also looked really good. Lots of delicious vegetarian options and good service!

Don't let the 'vegetarian' menu get in your way. I was pleasantly surprised. We started off with their nachos plate for a starter...we were told that the small plate was more than enough for two...believe them- it could have fed 4 with leftovers, I can only imagine what the regular nachos plate looks like...enough to feed a neighborhood? Service is outstanding, food great! The only down side to Sammy T's might be the booths...not very comfortable, but that is soon forgotten once the food arrives.

First - we should have known better than to order beef stroganoff at a mostly vegetarian restaurant - the sauce was bland and there may have been an ounce or so of ground beef at the most. The bright spot on the menu was the salads. I loved the lemon tahini dressing. The veggie club sandwich was okay, but not terribly interesting. We all the loved the chocolate mousse. At least there was good beer on tap! Next time in Fredericksburg, we are trying Foode.

Inside of the restaurant needs major updating, but what can you expect from an old town restaurant? My mom had the turkey rueben and liked it, I had the fish and chips. Decent food, nothing to write home about. Took too long to be greeted by our waitress and we couldn't find her when we wanted the check even though the restaurant was not busy. Has huge selection of vegetarian and vegan options too

We had lunch here on a recent warm Sunday afternoon. Service was outstanding: friendly, attentive, and sincere. There were 4 diners in our party with each of ordering a different entree. One had a cup of Brunswick stew and a Greek salad. The stew was a bit vinegary, but the "small" salad was a hearty portion and very tasty. Another had a grain burger that was tasty, but could have been a bit more crispy. I had the tempeh burger which was excellent. My son has a black bean wrap that was delicious. There are beers on tap in case you need one to accompany your vegetarian fare. All in all, a fun place with quality food.

I had heard about this place from a couple of people and stopped in for a cold beverage after a day on the golf course. It's right downtown with street parking. We had a couple of Heffezien's which were great. We looked at the menu but it was 330p so we decided to wait on food till later. They have a big bar, no TV's but lots of funk looking local art on the wall.

Went down to Fredericksburg to have dinner with my son at Mary Washington on a Monday night. Many places are closed on Monday nights. Great food !! Waiter was excellent in his recommendations! Nachos are fantastic. Ordered the large, expecting to take some home. NOPE, all gone. The special that night was fantastic. ATE everything! Not only ate dinner ,but ordered take out for the next day! The Brunswick stew and a chicken salad sandwich. So that the sandwich does not get soggy, the water had them Pack the bread, chicken salad, and lettuce/ tomato and bacon separately!! Will go back!! worth the trip~~

I've been to Fredericksburg twice for work over the last few months and both times I've been to Sammy T's. The atmosphere is casual, the wait staff is beyond friendly and the fish & chips is AMAZING! Next time I come into town, I will definitely go back.

We came here for dinner while on vacation with the family and we loved it so much we came back for lunch. Delicious vegan and vegetarian food and personable and prompt service as well... a combination that's hard to find these days!

My favorite restaurant downtown. Love the atmosphere, service and food. Have tried many items on their menu and never find myself leaving less than satisfied. A must try for everyone!

Yum! Great vegetarian restaurant. Lots and lots of options! Decent beer selection and some good meat options, too, if you aren't a vegetarian. The staff was nice and the service was pretty fast. My boyfriend and I both enjoyed our meals and left in a pleasant mood. It was fairly busy when we went in but everything still came out fast and tasty! I would definitely go back the next time I'm in the area.

What a cute, quaint little place they have! It is located in the heart of downtown Fredericksburg. The staff was very helpful and nice. I tried the blade runner. It was really good! I can't wait to go back to try their all their other vegetarian options and their beers!:)

I already know that Sammy T's is my favorite guilty pleasure place in Fredericksburg, yet every time go there I feel like I fall in love with it all over again! Last night was no exception. Visited Sammy T's for probably the 5th time last night to use a Groupon. Place was clean and we were seated fast. Our waitress was friendly and very eager to get us anything we needed. I was with one other person and mentioned we were getting to entrees to share. Without us asking she brought two side plates to ease our sharing and also when we bagged out left overs she brought to go bags so we each could take some. On the ball for sure!! The food at Sammy T's is always fresh and well seasoned. Unfortunately I tend to gravitate to the same things because they are so delicious! We ordered the Ellen Salad (Falafel salad with tabbouleh) and the Tempeh stir fry (great peanut sauce!!!). The portions were huge (as I said we both took lunch left overs). I eat a lot of falafel and hadn't been to Sammy T's in a while. What stood out to me on this trip is that the Felafel's here are less oily then other places and have a creamier inside. Almost as though they were baked (perhaps?). Both of us thought the food was so delicious we admitted we wanted to keep eating past out full point. Sammy T's always has many vegetarian and vegan offerings, as well as daily specials. Prices are reasonable too. The atmosphere can be a bit overwhelming because they have wooden booths that appear more cramped than they are and there is lots of art on the walls from local artists (available to purchase!). Overall a very earthy hipster feel. But if the hipster feel and vegan offerings intimidate you....have no fear...they have burgers and fries (some of the best smelling fries!!) too!! I make sure to bring all of my out of town friends here....unique, delicious, fresh and reliable....I know I will get quality food and service each time I come here (not something you can easily say about many places in the 'burg).

Nothing really special. Decent food though. Their coleslaw was very good though, and I don't give two craps about coleslaw.

Outstanding! The giant crab cake sand which was the best crab cake I have ever had! Great service in a very historic location. Be sure to read the building history on the front of the menu-very interesting!

Their seats are really uncomfortable, but the food is worth it. Their falafel, stir fry, and tempeh burger are pitch perfect. Mmmmm...

It seems Sammy's is always busy and for good reason. Sammy T's has been a favorite of mine since 1986 when I moved here. It is a unique family-owned restaurant in historic downtown (which has many great restaurants). Sammy passed away a few years ago and his relatives now own it. They changed the main bar/dining to non-smoking but kept the menu true to the original. There are many vegetarian and vegan items on the menu as well as hearty classic sandwiches and entrees. Their weekly specials menu is also very interesting which blends flavors in a meal you may not otherwise put together yourself. On tap are several beers that will suit your taste, above and beyond the bud light types. The staff efficiently takes care of customers and it's always buzzing with tourists and regulars alike. Casual, cozy, dim, bar-like atmosphere, the building dates back to the civil war and the restaurant has had a good reputation for decades in the area. To mention a few awesome menu choices... The burgers, black bean quesadilla, nachos, lemon tahini dressing on any salad, Greek salad, Brunswick stew, double-stacked club sandwich, crab cake sandwich, salmon BLT, fresh cut fries, along with a fresh ice tea or a beer...I could go on and on. Oh yea, and save room for chocolate mousse as dessert. Can't beat fresh food, such a variety of choices and a friendly, hometown atmosphere! If anyone is taking notes from the restaurant, I wish they would add two of my favorites back on the menu ... Spicy black bean dip, and from way back, the Hot Pocket. Otherwise, I LOVE SAMMY T's just the way it is!

Tried for the first time this year. Got the tzaziki dip for an appetizer and the turkey sandwich for the entree which I ended up taking home most of because the appetizer was so good by itself!

I have been eating at Sammy T's for over 20 years and though I no longer live in the Fred, it is still the only place I want to eat when I am passing through. I make special detours off of I-95 to eat at Sammy T's. What is good? The chi-chi dip, ellen salad, chicken salad, campers special, black bean cakes, nachos, open faced turkey sandwich, fries, and the list goes on and on. Neither I nor my dining companions over the years have ever had a bad meal, including my preschool age eaters. Way back when Sammy T's used to serve breakfast, their omelets were superb, and it would be great if they'd bring back breakfast!! I miss the travel posters on the wall, which have been replaced by rotating collections of amateur art but some things never change, like expressionless waitresses. Sammy T's is a classic and is loved by vegans and meat-eaters alike - may it stay in business and continue to serve delicious healthy food for eternity!

Good quick service and pretty good food. Both times I've been here I got a burger which was good, just a bit dry.

I always end up at Sammy T's when I visit Fredericksburg. I intend to try other places but Sammy T's is like visiting an old friend - it's that kind of comfortable. The menu is a lot of standard pub fare but with a large selection of vegetarian options. I can't say I have a favorite dish and usually order something different - nachos, fish & chips, black bean burger. The food is decent , middle of the road. I like the downtown/college town atmosphere, the long bar, and the decent beer selection. Until someone makes me try someplace new, I think I'll always be dining at Sammy T's when I'm in town!

After walking out of the Blarney Stone for rudeness of their staff, we went to Sammy T's. I have been there before and have never been disappointed. As always, they were polite and the food was great! The vegetarian entree that I had was pretty good, but I tried a bite of my son's burger and it was memorable. We will be back! Don't even waste your time going somewhere else, especially not the Blarney Stone.

I've been here several times, not because I enjoy it, but because so many of my friends do that I feel like I must be missing something. I always want to really like this place, but I am always so underwhelmed here. The food here is good, but nothing special, although they do have a good variety and a lot of vegetarian options. The service is usually friendly, but never quick and its a little on the pricier side for a sandwich or drink. Overall there isn't anything really bad to say about it, but there also isn't anything really good, so save your money and time and go elsewhere downtown.

Whenever I visit family down in VA, I always ask to come here. Their burger is really yummy. Fries, eh. I like me some meat. Also stopped at the froyo station attached in the rear. Yummy.

All of our burgers were burnt although we ordered them at different temperatures, such as med and med-well. The service was slow and there was a mandatory 20 percent gratuity for a family of 6 (or more). For 6 people, our bill came up to $90. Each person had one entree...$8-10 each, 4 sodas, and a basket of fries for the table. It was definitely overpriced and not worth the trip. I did not go to the bar so have nothing to say about that side. All-in-all, I would recommend trying another establishment on Caroline St.

  • Nicole V.

Lots of tattoos and tons of vegan meals on the menu wrapped up in a vintage atmosphere. The food was high quality, and fairly tasty. If your looking for talkative attentive service during the lunch rush, this isn't the place. The waitress got the orders, brought the check, and took the money. That was it. It was mildly displeasing since more water would have been nice.

I have been coming to Sammy T's for years. If you are vegan or a vegetarian this place is for you. If you are not, it is for you as well because they do have non-vegetarian items. They usually have some great beers available in bottle and draft; some local and some not. The food here is why I use to come so frequently. They really do have some good and fresh dishes. I really enjoyed the black bean cakes and the felafel. You get huge portions and you never leave here hungry. They also have really good hand cut fries and taziki dip as well. Here is my biggest gripe with this place...yes it is for the most party really good veggie friendly food, however, the service here is so hit or miss. Do not expect to get in and get out of here. That is never the case. I have had good, bad and indifferent servers. Most are nice, just slow. I really don't have a good answer to why either. Yes this place does get busy, but I have had my best service when it is busy and the worst service when it is slow. Either way I am going to continue to come to Sammy T's when I am in downtown Fredericksburg because I really do love there veggies!!

Ok, so this place was recommended to me as a place I could eat paleo... no. No a good place to eat paleo. But the meat was great on the burger, the salmon salad was prepared well and besides that, I can't decide if it I'd recommend this place over the places next door, I.e. capital ale house, paddy's, FoodE... for a more bang for your buck higher end menu. Meh

We stopped by Fredericksburg since it was the popular town that locals tend to frequent. Now, I have a disclaimer, I am from San Diego so my definition of popular is where there are lines out the door for hot spots. I am not saying that Fredericksburg is inferior to San Diego in anyway but I was just not use such a quiet town. Okay, back to the review of the restaurant, we ate here since there was a good selection of items ranging from vegan fair to dishes for carnivores. The food was alright, nothing that made my taste buds jump for joy. I had their falafel salad and my husband had their burger. The salad was a good size with I think it was 7 or 8 pieces of falafel. It was served on top of a bed of lettuce and tabouli with tahini as a dressing. The environment was very nice; waiters/waitresses were also chill. The only annoying thing was the booths. They are very uncomfortable and creaked a lot. Not an exciting joint but worth a try. I think vegans and vegetarians would swoon over this place though.

Sammy T's is a great restaurant and has a large selection of Vegan and Vegetarian items. They have a full-bar as well as several rotating beers on tap. I usually get one of their vegetarian selections and a pint of beer when I visit. Their food is fresh, and their veggies are probably some of the best you will have in the immediate area in any of the neighboring restaurants. The only "complaint" I have is that the seat backs on the booths can get uncomfortable. We usually belly up to the bar, which is usually open and we can get past any seating delay. We average 2-3 times a month.

Located downtown Fredericksburg, Sammy T's offers a variety of food for not only vegetarians and vegans, but for the few of us carnivores left here on Earth. The first time I dined at Sammy T's was a little less than a month ago for a friend's, who happens to be a vegetarian, birthday. Our party of six arrived a little after 7 P.M. but due to our group's size we were unable to be seated with one another. The staff was apologetic, but didn't seem to care that it bothered us. Minus 1 star. My mum and I shared a turkey club sandwich (three layers of bread, meat, lettuce, tomatoes, bacon, and mayo), a vegetarian baked potato (Swiss cheese, walnuts, tomatoes, and mushrooms), and an order of sweet potato fries - yes we love our potatoes. The food was good and I left stuffed, but it didn't excite my taste buds. Minus 1 star. One afternoon while recovering from a massive hangover my mum suggested that we go out to eat. She wanted something "healthy" and I wanted anything that would soak up the alcohol in my stomach, so we agreed on Sammy T's. While my mum nibbled on her Greek salad, I devoured my pulled pork BBQ sandwich and fries. It would be unfair for me to compare the BBQ at a vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant to that of a BBQ shack down south - the two couldn't possibly compare. However, if I return I would definitely consider ordering the pulled pork sandwich. Pros: -The perfect place for vegetarians and vegans, and hey, you can even bring your carnivore friend. -Reasonably priced. -Great location. -Huge bar -You choose the bread, meat, and cheese that goes on your sammich - YUM! Cons: -There isn't much room for big parties. -The seats are uncomfortable. -The staff can be slow. -The food I ordered lacked flavor Overall I enjoyed dining at Sammy T's. I am not too sure if I would recommend this place to a friend; I do believe there are better restaurants downtown Fredericksburg. But if you're curious as to what Sammy T's has to offer I say take the chance, just make sure to order the pulled pork sandwich.

Thomas Wolfe may have said, " you can't go home again", but he never ate at Sammy T's. I fell in love with this Caroline Street restaurant back when I first came to Fredericksburg twenty-five years ago as a Mary Washington student. The restaurant has remained in Doctor Emory's family and even though dear old Fred Vegas has grown up, somethings are as good as you remember. Sammy T's onion rings are still perfection in a basket.

When I lived in Northern VA I made it a point that every trip I took through Fredericksburg I would either stop on the to or fro of my destination, sometimes both. They have a great menu for vegetarian/vegans and omnivores alike. The black bean cakes are feakin' amazing! Seriously, I have ordered them every time I have been here, sometimes ordering some to take home for later. I almost gave this a 4 because some of the odder things on the menu aren't very good, but then I thought to myself, "well, that's just your opinion... man". Really the menu is loaded with good choices, and then some "interesting" ones. Beer! They have a pretty nice selection, especially for Fredericksburg. I have inquired as to if they have liquor or wine as I have only ever been passing through and the driver at that. SammyT's comes highly recommended, especially if your veg. As a rule of thumb, order the black bean cakes as an appetizer and your off to a great start.

Sammy Ts has some of the best food in Downtown, and so many options. The prices aren't too much (especially for dessert), and I've never managed to get something I didn't like. That said, Sammy Ts has some of the worse service in Downtown. They run out of food all the time, forget parts of your order, and worst of all is the wait. I've only ordered pickup(many times) and they always make me wait forever for food, sometimes they haven't even started yet, like they forgot I made the order. I normally wait 10-15 min before heading over there too. One time I waited 5 minutes at the entrance before someone acknowledged me(with a line behind me), then waited another 5 minutes at the bar until someone there acknowledged me. The people are certainly friendly, I think they're either oblivious or very understaffed. I can't imagine what dinning in must be like, and I don't think I'll ever risk it. So if you're in the mood for some amazing food, and don't mind waiting or a possible mistake in your order, give Sammy Ts a try.

We stopped here because it was one of the few places that had a couple of sidewalk tables. The weather was too perfect to sit inside. I ordered the BLT and my friend had a cup of the spicy bean & chicapee soup (sp?) We were both extremely pleased! The sandwich was a good size with a ton of bacon. I didn't expect that because it was only about $5. They had a lot of vegetarian options that even sounded good to a carnivore like me!

Great spot in historic downtown Fred - loved the outside seating for people watching. GET THIS: the salmon BLT on sourdough bread was outstanding and my friend got the veggie club - he said it was very good.

The spinach fold-over is generally good. fair food, cold beer. Update: Next visit took a noseDIVE. Poor service, food quality down, onion rings inedible. (see pic) Thats how they arrived @ table. yuuuk! When we returned them to our server she asked... "Oh, you didn't like them?" Good grief they were obviously crap! Very unhappy with the Sammy right now. Possibly last visit and last recommendation.

Visited here for dinner while back east. They have a pretty extensive vegetarian menu which is always nice. I have been here may times over the years and it's always the same which is pretty neat. Our waitress was really nice and she carded me which made me laugh, but it is always appreciated :) The service on our visit was pretty great and they were pretty packed for it being the middle of the week. I had a vegetarian baked potato with walnuts, sunflower seeds and cheese. It sounds kind weird, but it was really good and a nice compliment to the vegetarian chili. The chili was a tad salty, but with the baked potato it was really good. My Guinness was cold and delicious as usual. All in all a great spot for vegetarians and their carnivore friends.

We had some friends come to town and they wanted an authentic Fredericksburg experience. We thought Sammy T's should do the trick. It has been around forever and I have heard good things. The good: My wife's crab cake was very good and my buddies burger was pretty good as well. The bad: My chicken gyro was made from canned chicken (it had that preserved flavor) and the smoked chicken breast sandwich was a couple slices of lunch meat. This is supposed to be a restaurant, not a cheap deli. The funny thing is, Sammy's is known for their healthy options. The two healthy dishes were the worst ones. Suggestions: 1. Get some real chicken breasts and marinade them in yogurt and some greek spices. That chicken gyro could have been great with a little effort. 2. Call up one of these BBQ places around town (maybe Gunny's) and ask them to smoke you some chicken breasts. Set up some sort of standing order. Give them credit on the menu and next thing you know, you have a decent smoked chicken breast sandwich.

We were surprised and quite pleased with this place. Coming from California, you get spoiled on certain amenities and I count local, organic, and vegetarian/vegan menu items as an amenity rather than a norm. The food is pretty good, not great but pretty good. We've been here twice during our stay in the area and for the price, the quality and taste is A-ok.

We stopped here for a quick bite and a brew to tide us over before a walk around downtown area. Service is a bit slow and not the most knowledgeable of their menu nor interested in any small talk, but friendly enough to get the job done. Draft beer selection is a bit light, but there are a few decent brews to choose from. In my vegetarian days I would have been stoked to find this place - there are definitely are a few options for you leaf-eaters out there, and it's good enough for the omnivores as well. The best thing about this place is the atmosphere - it's a step back in time but still maintained as a cheery brightly lit eatery decorated with a local artist's work. The booths were built in a time when obesity was not quite the epidemic we Americans know it to be today.

At first I was a bit skeptical about the place with it's very worn out uncomfortable seats and strange artwork on the walls but after the first bite of my Turkey Reuben I was in love with the place! My boyfriend had a cheese burger but ended up helping me finish the Reuben and it also resulted in us having dinner there once again the next day so he could experience his own Reuben. The staff we had on our first visit was very nice and friendly, on our second visit the staff didn't really seem that enthusiastic about her job. Apart from that, I'm very happy with my visit to Sammy T's and when I go back to Fredricksburg I'll most likely come back to Sammy T's as well!

My friend took me here because I'm a vegetarian & she had heard they had a good selection for veggie folks. Good call. I love the place & am a regular now as are my two teenagers. They have a decent vegetarian & vegan selection. The food is good, I have never ordered anything that I didn't like. Love the downtown location & atmosphere. Service is a bit slow, but always friendly and helpful... so don't go here if you are in a hurry. Not a great place for rowdy little kids as it's more of a bar & grille style place. They also have a couple of tables outside where you can dine with your pet which I love as well. Great place to go and then walk around downtown or by the river afterwords.

The whole family enjoyed lunch at Sammy T's. The food was good and reasonably priced. My brother had no complaints about his pulled pork sandwich, and my vegetarian italian quesadilla with basil, tomatoes, and cheese (from the monthly specials menu) was very tasty and quite filling. My favorite part of the meal was the onion rings. They obviously make them fresh in house with just enough batter, not those ones that you get at chain restaurants that are so coated in thick batter that you can barely taste the onion. The entrance to the non-smoking section is around the side of the building, which meant that it was actually smoke free! The only caveat I would mention is that in the non-smoking section the most they can seat together is five, more than that and you'll have to split up between tables, but that is a small price to pay for a good meal!

I love love love Sammy T's. I lived in FBG for 4 years and when I moved it was definitely a place I missed. Great vegetarian food, creative menu, and good beer selection. Fast and (usually) friendly service. So much character, such great food! Order a basket of sweet potato fries, you wont regret it.

So, the food was decent, and while I would not go back, if someone was dying to try it, I would not veto it. Thought it was a little overpriced. Sammy's has many vegan and vegetarian options, which is awesome. We sat outside, and the tables were filthy. Our server was really nice, and service was good, though we were left for a while after finishing before she checked on us. I had the black bean nachos, which were tasty, and came with homemade salsa, which was very good. The fries have the potential to be excellent - flavorful, but not crunchy. The bf said his turkey sandwich was only OK, but noted that it could be because he wanted Thai food instead (I had a fit and said that Thai food did not fit in with the town feel, and that I wanted to go to a tavern/ale house type place. As usual, I got what I wanted). Oh, and the downside? $9 sandwiches do not come with fries, you need to order those separately.

With a vegetarian teenager, I always look for restaurants that have vegetarian options, but also have food for the meateaters in the family. Sammy T's was a perfect choice, and most of the menu options are vegetarian. The black bean nachos were huge (seriously, one order fed three of us for dinner). We returned for lunch and enjoyed salads and soups. The service here is relaxed and friendly. Recommend! Visited March 2011

I really would like to know what the price/ounce is here. I LOVE the craze of DIY fro-yo and feel like I am a good judge of weight/price from my years of experience. But...my cup was literally a third full - not even with a lot of heavy toppings - and it was over $5?! The pomegranate acai flavor, while original, also tasted like it had been fermenting a bit...old fro-yo ain't good fro-yo. So yeah, its really the only one of its kind around here, but it certainly could be better.

Wonderful service, eclectic atmosphere and very tasty VEGAN entrees! Was sooooo happy to find freshly made and completely satisfying vegan dinner choices. Highly recommend (to EVERYONE) the black bean cakes...they have a great kick. What could make this place better? Let's offer up some vegan desserts. Sorbet, coconut milk ice cream, baked goods (which are soooo easy to make and extremely delish). Sammy Ts...thanks for the cruelty-free offerings! Hope you expand the menu....we WILL be back!

This place is just ok. I enjoy the Falafel and crab cakes. The beer selection is pretty decent, but I have tasted other dishes that friends have ordered and not been impressed. Overall, this is a nice place for a vegan or vegetarian, of which I am neither. I would rather just go somewhere else, but if I must, I won't complain too much.

I love coming to Sammy T's! It's one of my favorite restaurants downtown and is a great place to grab a beer with friends while eating a good meal! Lots of options for vegetarians, which is nice. The service has improved immensely from what it used to be, which makes the dining experience way more enjoyable. Overall great place to eat!

I am not a big frozen yogurt fan, but this place was great! There are about 10 flavors to choose from (and these flavors change every so often). You get a cup and serve yourself as much or as little yogurt as you want. There's a whole topping bar, with stuff like fruit, nuts, candy sprinkles, etc. There's also several different syrups, like chocolate and peanut butter. Then you go to the register and have it weighed. I got Dulce de Leche, and it was awesome. My husband got Pomegranate Raspberry, and he said his was good, too. My 4 year old got strawberry, and he really got a kick out of choosing his own toppings. There are several tables inside to eat at, and several outside on Hanover St. as well. This was some really good frozen yogurt!!! PS: I thought I had lost my wedding ring in the bathroom when I washed my hands, and the lone employee here brought out the trash she had just changed, brought me gloves to put on to search for my ring, and then got gloves for herself to help me. What a nice girl!

Nice laid-back atmosphere here, but a little too laid back - our server was super flaky, very forgetful, messed up both of our orders. I got the soup and potato - decent brunswick stew, and a huge potato stuffed to be even bigger with veggies, mushrooms, walnuts, and cheese - this was good. I'd recommend sticking to just the vegetarian stuff, though, because her turkey sandwich was terrible. They make it sound like you are getting real turkey and instead its this cheapo deli meat stuff. I like the vegetarian comfort food thing they have going, but stay away from the meat stuff and hope you dont get the same server I did.

I was walking around downtown Fredericksburg and a friend said he liked this place, so we went. What he didn't mention, so it was a pleasant surprise, was that the menu was at least half full of vegan and vegetarian options. Delightful! I got the apple cheddar melt, which is really tasty. We had some sweet potato fries which were pretty good as well. I had a really hard time deciding, and would like to come back and try more! It is also very reasonably priced.

Good: The humus or "chi-chi" was very tasty. Bad: I had the vegetable w/chicken stir-fry per the recommendation from our waitress. I counted, literally, four small pieces of broccoli and five small carrot pieces. The rest was rice, peanut sauce, and a tiny bit of chicken that was the consistency of what comes out of a can. The rice was mushy and the peanut sauce was horrible. If you are a party of more than four seating is a challenge. My family of five were squished in a booth with a chair placed at the end. We will not frequent this establishment again, which is a shame because we are trying very hard to support the local establishments within the city.

I have eaten here so many times and I am sad to only be able to give it 1 star. The food is good so the single star is only a result of the incredibly poor service! They are slow to begin with and if you leave anything in the bar that is of any interest to the staff...even if you can see it through the glass window immediately after they've locked the doors for the night, you will certainly not get it back...the only thing you might get is a middle finger and a bunch of people laughing from the other side of the locked doors who are letting their dog run through the restaurant (behind the bar and everything-disgusting!) I feel this would not be the case if Sammy were still alive but this is not the case! This place has gone from great to just another Spirits.

Amazing! There are so many options to chose from if you are a vegetarian or a vegan. You should not be unsatisfied. (we hope they'll have avocados the next time we're there!)

Went here for a late lunch in the middle of the week. The place was practically dead, but the food was good. The ambience is a little...well...confusing. Not sure how to rate it, aside from just "plain." I had the Special Steak Sandwich; melted provolone and sautéed onions (and mushrooms, I think, but I axed the mushrooms) over thinly sliced rib eye on ciabatta bread, with a basil mayo. When the sandwich came out, I thought it was a little small. I'm used to Philly-style giant steak and cheese sandwiches, but by the end of the meal, I was pretty full. The meat was fairly standard, but the addition of the homemade basil-mayo put a little something extra that made the sandwich...well..."special" and quite good. The ciabatta bread was crisp and chewy and sopped up the juices from the rib-eye quite well. Overall, I was pleasantly surprised. While the place isn't anything stellar, it's definitely worth a try and I left there happy.

My turkey sandwich with mozzarella was excellent. Good flavor and consistency. Halfway through, I bit into a hidden reserve of mayo. If you like mayo, yay for you, but I ended up scraping off more mayo than I've eaten in the past 5 years. The basket of fries was good. I have it on the trusted authority of an 8-year-old that the mini-pizzas on the children's menu were inedible. She's normally a good eater, so I recommend steering clear. If you'd seen the sad look on her face after the first bite... The quesadilla my friend ordered was really tortilla with tomatoes and a tiny bit of cheese. Perhaps the cook isn't aware that queso is cheese and thus should be the foundation of a good quesadilla. My friend has ordered this in the past and it was good then, so maybe they were just having an off night. Service was poor. They were super packed so it's understandable, but in my mind great service means I'm unaware that they're super busy and super stressed. If I feel like I'm bothering the waitress when I ran out of water 15 minutes ago and would like just a tad more, well, that isn't the hallmark of quality service. But maybe I'm just too picky. I'm also fairly uncertain why they call this place vegetarian. There are a lot of meat choices on the menu.

Cute little place in a cute little college town! Nice surprise (again!) of a restaurant on our way home. This was a pretty hefty detour off the highway during rush hour...with a 20' trailer.... but it was pretty worth it. Would I do it again? Eh, during rush hour pulling a trailer? Probably not. Stopping to relax and enjoy the town for an overnight trip? Most def. We got a hummus platter which was pretty good... a spinach wrap (eh, save your money and choose something else) and a bean burger that was quite tasty. All in all- great selection of veg foods so a perfect place to please all... and hang and get a couple drinks. Would love to come back to this town in general as it was quite cute.

I love this place. It has a creative menu. My son is a very picky eater, but sampled items from both mine and my wife's plates. He enjoyed his meal as well. The place has a hip feel to it and is very comfortable to be in. Try this place at least once.

Okay I am going to rate this higher than I want to because the food is really, really good. Burger YUMO but they don't come with fries. But the do have sweet potato fries on the menu :) delish Server... well she was fine up to the time I was to get my change back... why, why is it here in Virginia they feel it is customary to keep your change. I am not talking all of my change. Say the bill is 21.50 and I put down 40 and bring me back 18.00, they don't come back with my change what happened to my .50 cents. Do they really think I didn't notice or do they really hire people that cant count proper change. maybe she thought that that was her tip? Really? I doubt it. So if you are a server and feel it is necessary not to bring me back my 50 cents, next time that will be the only tip you get! (just sayin)

The seats in the back are so uncomfortable. My daughter, who is 12 and only 90 lbs could barely fit on them b/c they're so thin. The food was not anything to write home about, maybe because we ordered stuff w/ meat? My husband was still starving when we left. Thankfully we had a groupon and didn't have to pay full price b/c the prices are high. Probably won't be back.

I love this place. I love that there are tons of vegetarian options but also some items with meat so I can take anyone I know there without worrying that they won't find anything. Everything is very hearty and I've never left unsatisfied. I would give it a 5 except the service is often very slow. It's worth it for the good food though.

Friends took us to Sammy Ts when we were up visiting (and hitting up the Rally to Restore Sanity), and it was super dreamy. After living in South Carolina for a couple years, it's been a long time since I've been to a restaurant where nearly everything was veg/vegan. HAPPINESS. The onion rings were fantastic. My husband ordered a grilled cheese with the soup of the day - a pumpkin vegetable curried concoction that was seasoned with a hint of cinnamon and was really banging. I got the bean and grain burger with lemon tahini, which satisfied my need for a veggie burger. We had pitchers of Yuengling, sat in an old wooden booth, and filled our stomachs with veggie food. I really can't ask for anything more.

What am I missing here? Guess I should have had something off the vegan menu. If this place is the Fredericksburg standard then it is time to up the ante. We started with the chips and salsa. Nothing special. Then I got the chicken salad. It tasted old or either there was just some spice that was throwing me off. I also got the onion rings. They looked awesome, but they tasted like spoonfuls of raw flour. Our waitress never asked how the food was so I never offered my opinion. Capital Ale House is going to destroy this place. They need more good restaurants in this town. The historic area is much too nice to deserve this mediocrity.

Fredricksburg was my great retreat away from Stafford on my work trip! Beer please! Unfortunately I don't remember what it was called, what's important is that it was a local brew. I do remember it being creamy. SammieTs is a solid choice for a vegan. They offer many choices on their menu labeled with a big fAt V's next to those items. Although there were many vegan choices I proceeded to go with my love for the sea and ordered the crab cakes. Fluffy nice crab cakes, salad and french fries. Another beer please! This place left me so happy I almost ran across the street to get a tattoo from "Sorry Mom Tattoo".

Had lunch here on a Sunday during my first visit to Fredericksburg. I would be happy to come back to Sammy T's whenever I'm next in the area. I like that they have such a diverse menu, plenty of sandwich and burger options but also pasta entrees, etc... basically like a Greek diner. Lots of vegetarian choices, even. I had a special, the Zeus the Destroyer Burger. Crazily too much food; this was an 8 oz. burger topped with feta, peppers and onions, and served with a side of spanakopita and tzatziki sauce. Everything was good but so, so heavy. Good thing I was starving. Service was great, considering how busy they were. Also loved the old school atmosphere... this place has a lot of character and charm. I'd love to check it out at night some time and have a few beers. This is not a place to stimulate the gourmand, but if you're just curious and in search of a good time you won't be disappointed.

Sammy T's was ok. I was with my family and ordered some gazpacho and the turkey rueben, and we shared fries. The gazpacho was basically some faintly chilled V-8 with a few chunks of cucumber and... pickle? There were pickle chunks in the soup. Gazpacho should be a cold mixture of tomato juice and finely minced parsley, cucumber, celery, onion, and tomatoes (and whatever else), not this. I was highly disappointed. The turkey rueben was okay. There was too much sauerkraut, which was put on the bottom, so it was really soggy on the bottom. It came with olives, which I liked. The sweet potato fries were really good. They were thin and very crispy, without too much salt. The waitresses were nice and attended well to the drinks, but otherwise didn't really check up on us.

They have about 8 flavors of yogurt. Pretty limited toppings compared to other local shops. Price was cheaper than others with mine and my sons total of $6. They only give large cups so it is easy to overfill.

Had the crab cake sandwich - great crab cake. Good sized, too, but it was a little overwhelmed by the huge bun it was served on. Less bun would have been nice. Coleslaw was also good.

I didn't know that Virginia had any hip places to hang out! This place is quaint, the service is excellent, and the variety of dishes to choose from (including numerous vegetarian and vegan) was most impressive. And not just that, they have several dozen different kinds of beer and ale at the bar. The booths were a bit cramped, but to me, that just added to the character and gave it an Irish pub feel.

  • Aimee A.

Excellent service (even though they were very busy during lunch hour). I had two toddlers with me and it didn't make them treat us any less - infact, they catered to make sure the kids food plates were split up in the back (which... one kids meal will easily feed two toddlers). My small salad was large enough to fill me up for lunch. We will be back!

Ate at Sammy t's tonight and it was just an overall unpleasant experience... The service was all over the place and when we finally did get a seat, our waitress was adequate at best. The real icing on the cake was the 3 inch long hair that was intertwined inside my burger. I had a lot of hope in Sammy t's tonight but that quickly went down the drain

Sammy T's is always my go-to restaurant downtown. The menu is suitable for any apetite, with many vegetarian and vegan options, as well as meat lover options. My favorite dish by far is the Camper's Special. It's pretty much every delicious vegetarian thing you could ever want wrapped up in one tortilla with cheese melted on top. How could you go wrong??? I also LOVE the monthly specials! This restaurant, to me, is the epitome of Fredericksburg dining and I definitely recommend it to any and everyone!

  • David S.

I love Sammy T's. I've been coming here for years, and enjoy the large menu filled with vegan & vegetarian dishes (even though I'm not a vegetarian). I always get a bowl of back beans and rice, and usually an "Adventurer" ( a sort of burrito/wrap concoction), a spinach foldover, or Ellen's Salad. Great stuff. They also have a great selection of beers, and always a decent pale ale on tap. I always sit in the front (smoking) section of the restaraunt. It has great booths and a long bar. It's got decor that is somewhere between old-time and funky. The only downside -- and reason I don;t give it 5 stars -- is because I can't unerstand why a vegetarian restaraunt relegates it's non-smoking customers to a back room with zero personality. I sit in the smoking section because it has the atmosphere (no pun intended). Even now, with a voluntary non-smoking law on the books, they continue to allow smoking. It's stupid and it's the one thing I hate about Sammy T's.

This was a good restaurant - honestly, my allergen-friendly food was much better than anything my husband got. Not crazy impressed, but definitely worth going back. Prices are a little high for the quality of the food. Service was good, location is convenient but tough on parking during weekends. Inside is really cold and dark.

I am never disappointed with the food here. Their specials are amazing, prices are amazing and the service is excellent! This is our "go-to-place" that always leaves us satisfied in our belly's and our wallet! :) The only thing I would change would be the seats, but hey, when a place is this good you'd expect the seats to wear out!

I am a fan of frozen yogurt, but I wasn't really a fan of this place. It is extremely similar to Crave in Central Park, but if I had to choose between the 2 I would choose Crave for several reasons. 1. Crave now offers smaller cups. Sammy T's only has large cups and it's easy to overfill and end up overpaying. 2. Crave has a better variety of toppings and yogurts. Crave offered a lot of fresh fruit options that Sammy T's didn't have. 3. I thought it was kind of ridiculous that Sammy Ts had a tip jar on the counter. This is a self serve yogurt shop. What exactly the cashier does that warrants me leaving a tip is beyond me. The shop is small and when the yogurt machines kicked on it became pretty loud. Hard to have a conversation in that place. If I'm downtown I may stop by again, but I would choose Crave over this place 99% of the time.

***EDIT: it appears they didn't actually delete my wife's review just 'filtered' it for some reason. I still think that is a bit shady*** Since for some reason Yelp decided to delete my wife's review, I thought I would add my own 1-star rating to make up for it. (First, the deletion was completely unwarranted. Nothing in the review went against the Yelp terms of service or content. Their decision to delete it seriously undermines their credibility and will make me suspicious about any review I see on this site from now on). As to my review, it won't sway those looking for Vegan or Vegetarian places since there aren't a lot to choose from. That said, others might be interested that this is the first restaurant I have ever left due to horrible service from rude and obnoxious servers. We got seated promptly, but the booth was too far from the table for our toddler to reach. We asked if we could be moved to a regular table (there were plenty open). The waiter that seated us threw a mini-tantrum before finally saying "fine, just sit there". He proceeded to ignore us for the next 15 minutes while helping every other table in our vicinity. Finally the bartender came out to take our order without so much as a 'hello', much less a smile. While she went to fill our drink order, we had to move the sugar container to the edge of our table to keep the toddler from playing with it. When she brought back our drinks she slammed them on the table, snatched the sugar container, rolled her eyes at us and walked over to the trash can and pitched the sugar and container in disgust. At that point we asked for the manager and were told there was none available. I honestly was afraid to eat any food at this point because of the hostility that had been expressed toward us. So, we explained our displeasure and left. Some might think it is unfair to give a 1-star review without ever trying the food. But for me, the whole experience left such a negative impression that I wouldn't go back there if they offered me a free meal.

We went to this place without really reading the reviews too closely so while there are non-Vegitarian/Vegan menu choices when over half the menu is Vegitarian/Vegan I'd have to call it as such. That being said the menu had quite a few decent looking choices. I settled on a chicken salad (Sammy's salad I believe) with apple slices, bleu cheese, etc and it was pretty good. They were nearly out of tap beer but between Boddington's and 'Fred' (local brew) I was satisfied. It was a weekday so service was really good and they customized a coworkers meal because she's so picky. The atmosphere was quaint east coast (right down to the wood phone booth inside.

Sammy T's definitely beat my expectations but lost points in a few key areas. I like it's charmingly old country decor but the whole room is so wide open that the loud college guys at the bar could over talk me at times. The food was decent but deceiving. For Appetizers we had the Black Bean Dip and the Mediterranean. The Dip was explained as a Spicy Black Bean and Avocado Dip served with Tortilla Chips and Sour Cream. The flavor was good however it wasn't the slightest bit spicy. Also the Chips were awful. They were the very cheap round corn kind you can get from Sam's club in a 10 lb case... just awful. Luckily we had lots of Pita with our other appetizer. My only real complaint about the Mediterranean was that the Hummus was too thin. I love good thick fresh hummus. This had a slightly caked layer around the edge showing signs that they prescoop all the hummus into little bowls and just chill them. For Entree I had the Crab Quesadilla which was surprisingly good. Most places put so much cheese inside it over powers the flavor of anything else, but this was loaded with Crab, just enough cheese to hold it together, and went well with Salsa and some of the Black Bean Dip. My friend ordered the Baked Potato and Soup Entree. I didn't try the potato, I've never been a fan of a potato loaded with fat, covered in fat, and with fat melted on it, but I understand why people do. For her soup she ordered the Brunswick Stew. She didn't eat it claiming it was too spicy, I didn't eat it claiming it was just gross. It tasted more like a Crab Soup from a cheap restaurant in Kitty Hawk. Also something in it was not fully cooked, possibly the lima beans but I could never pin point it. Finally there was some unidentifiable dark meat in it that got me wondering about rabbit or squirrel because it didn't seem like dark chicken meat. My conclusion was beef scraps, but I'm still unsure. I would go back to this place because they have a nice beer selection and decent appetizers, but it might not be worth spending the money if somewhere better is open close by.

Sammy T's is pretty decent in my book. The food tastes good and the atmosphere is cozy. My issue with Sammy T' s is consistency. They don't always do the same thing. For instance, I ordered a burger and got it on a certain type of bread and the next time it came on something different. The wait staff is generally nice but sometimes they have a tendancy to ignore you for a bit. Overall, not bad though.

Four of us had lunch here, 3 adults and a child. The food was ridiculously overpriced, and not very delicious either. Unfortunately the bathroom was horrendous (filthy). The food was not completely objectionable, just kind of odd and flat. But the other aspects I mentioned would most definitely keep us from ever returning to this place. Yikes.

My husband and I stopped in here during a day of shopping in Fredricksburg. It has a unique crunchy-type atmosphere. I had the house salad with the house dressing-Lemon Tahini, which I recommend highly and the Vegetable Chili. My husband had the Black Bean Cakes with the house salad and the Lemon Tahini dressing as well. We both enjoyed the food and atmosphere. The food took a little while to get to us, but they had only one guy working in our room and there was a large family group next to us with all kinds of bizarre requests, "leave this off, substitute this for that, can you split this into three portions etc.." ( you know the type), so I will give the waiter a break on that one. The menu has a wide variety of vegetarian and non vegetarian salads, sandwiches and entrees. Everything that we had was delicious and everything I saw go to other tables looked great. They have soft drinks, juices, a wide variety of teas and beers.

Great place for lunch. We were looking for a brunch place, but it was sauna-hot outside so we came in here even though what I really wanted were Eggs Benedict. I'm so glad we did. We had the hummus appetizer (chi chi dip as they call it) and it was fresh and very fantastic. I'm a hummus nut (including making my own) and these people know what they're doing. The felafel salad with lemon tahini dressing was super good (I got the large portion, so actually I got two lunches out of it. bonus!). Looking forward to going back.

I always check out every definite vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant I can find local to where I live. Sammy T's is a little bit different than the vegetarian/vegan restaurants I'm used to where there are only two vegetarian dishes with cheese, and everything else is completely vegan, easy to order raw foods (or barely cooked unless with a fake-meat), organic, etc. Sammy T's is like... vegetarian bar food/home cooking. It's good, but it's not what I expected. The service has always been pretty good with waitresses more than willing to give their suggestion on what to eat, what salad dressing to get (their lemon-tahina dressing is UH-MAZING), etc. The two times I've gone I've ordered the tempeh stir-fry which isn't your typical stir-fry. It's less fresh, crunchy vegetables (I mean this in the best way possible. Not un-fresh, just not... quick stir-fried) in a liquidy sauce... it's more of a home-y, gravy-like peanut sauce, but it's sooo much better than I'm making it sound. The portions are huge, and I've eaten too much both times. I love that I can get Orangina here... it's been since I lived in Texas that I've had it. Also, their hummus/pita/etc platter is tasty. I'm going to have to go back a third time and try a different entree... I was disappointed when I went late at night and saw this veggie burger on the specials menu that sounded amazing that they weren't willing to make because at that point in the night, those specials were over... honestly, if you have the ingredients and it's fresh-made, it shouldn't be an issue... if you were out of something, say that instead of telling me you aren't serving it at that time. That reason alone, and the lack of stereo-typical vegetarian menu-feel is why it only got 4 stars.

Sammy T's is what I would consider a vegetarian restaurant with some great classics. I spent a lot of time in the beginning having nothing but their chocolate mousse which I have to say is like s*x in your mouth. Then at some point I started trying their food. I think I have had pretty much everything on the menu and I would say some of my favorites are the black bean dip with chips, tabouli, a black bean cake, felt melt sandwich. There is a real good selection of beer and the wine selection is not bad either they do some nice bottles by the bottle and glass. Overall this a great place to have a solid fresh home cooked meal.

Pretty much just a downtown staple. I've visited this place for years and never tried anything other than The Campers Special and the hummus plate.... but that's because I'm in my box and we've already established this in prior reviews. ~

I had a nice time at Sammy T's with some friends, just took a little too long to get another beer (darnit). Over-all, the food was good; I had one of the few non-vegetarian items from the menu, chicken parmesan. I recommend this place for anyone that might go to Fredericksburg for a walk in "Olde Town". It stays open pretty late, but it's pretty crowded in the early evening hours.

Great lunch here! The seats are a little small, but its well worth the food. I had the Curry Chicken Salad sandwich with bacon and it was phenominal.

We came here on a Wednesday evening. The non smoking door on the side of the building said to enter through the front door. It was a bit smokey inside. The benches made me feel as if I was about to slip off the loose cushion. I had the bean and grain burger with the lemon tahini sauce. It was my first bean burger so I guess I can't compare it to other bean burgers. It tasted okay but I wouldn't get it again. They did give plenty of lemon tahini sauce on the side. It tasted like hummus (maybe it was?) It wasn't very lemony though. The hand cut fries were a HUGE disappointment. They looked burnt but they didn't taste like they were burnt. They were soggy. How do fries get soggy when they are cooked fresh? I think my food was waiting to be served for ten minutes after it was cooked because the cheese looked like it was melted and then cooled. The fries seem like they were fried twice and in black oil. My fiance had the tuna melt. He at first didn't like some sort of herb in it but he guessed it was just that bite of the sandwich. The rest of it was good and the bread tasted really fresh. It was massive. They served each side of the sandwich open faced.

We loved this place--freshly prepared food, all delicious.

Sammy T's is a great little spot in downtown Fredericksburg, especially for vegetarians/vegans -- there aren't too many options for specialized cuisine in this area of Virginia, so it's a welcome addition to the town. There is a separate porch-like room for non-smokers, which is great, and the menu is filled with unusual yet delicious items. The vegetarian samosas with yogurt sauce are especially good (though they're not always on the menu), as is the Greek salad.

On our way back from visiting family in North Carolina we stopped off to have a late lunch with an old friend of mine in Fredericksburg. She said that this is a spot that we should not miss. We are not specifically vegetarian but do not object to meatless fare. I had the Camper's Special which while described as a veggie burger is more of a burrito filled with a mixture not firm enough to be a 'burger' but still tasty. However, calling it a burger definitely threw me off. My fiance and mother-in-law had the veggie lasagna which they did not rave about so I assume it was okay but not outstanding. My friend had a veggie burger that was on the specials and looked outstanding with lots of avocado. The staff were attentive and good about regularly refilling everyone's beverages. The bench seats, while original to this historic restaurant, are less than comfortable. If I went again I would definitely try the tempeh ruben. I was surprised that I did not see any seitan on the menu.

This is a great, great place! We came from out of town to Fred'sburg for a birthday lunch, a bunch of carnivores, kids and adults, young and old, and a vegan with many dietary restrictions. We picked Sammy T's because of the variety in the menu. It's amazing that they pleased absolutely everybody in the group. The veg menu is FANTASTIC. The black bean burgers are so delicious, you don't have to be a veg to love them. Everybody loved their burgers. The kids gobbled their chic tenders. The wait staff is so great, too. They all worked really well as a team, which was really necessary, since the place was PACKED, and we were a large group with a person opening birthday presents. The waitstaff made it a seamless operation, helping us get that big table and the food to the table really fast. The food was so good, we ate like fiends; we were so full, we didn't have room for dessert, which sounded great (a pecan pie or brownie sundae). But we managed to work up an appetite when we walked around the corner to Sammy T's yogurt (oh my god--that stuff is incredible--serve yourself as many flavors as you like with ungodly toppings from brownie bits to tofffee crumbles to oreos). I would recommend Sammy T's to anyone. It would be worth a return visit to Fredericksburg. Thanks so much, Sammy!

Sammy T's was quite disappointing. First of all, the main branch of the restaurant allows smoking inside. Ok, not a big deal. But here's the catch: you have to go to a smoke free part of the restaurant that's small, uncomfortable, and has servers moving at a glacial pace. I ordered a veggie burger and the gal that was supposed to be serving me instead let it sit there for ten minutes while she was reading Us Weekly. Need I say more?

A GREAT vegetarian restaurant with one of the BEST burgers I've ever had. There's so many vegetarian choices that even non-veggies would love. A definite must on any trip to Fredericksburg.

I thought this place was going to suck when I walked in. The food was so much better than the dark lighting and unwelcoming wooden boothes. While we were waiting to get seated, a woman told us that Sammy T's was great for some fresh, healthy home food. The food was quite good. I got a generous smoked salmon sandwich for $9 with looots of fish. The vegetables in the sandwich were very fresh. We also got a crab cake sandwich for ten bucks. There was tons of crab in the crabcake, although not very seasoned. The service was slow and I was very hungry. But the wait was worth it and we scarved down those yummy sandwiches.

Lots of great dishes. Weak desserts. Alright service. Not many places where you can find a wide variety of vegetarian dishes. Decent beer selection.

Sammy T's is a Fredericksburg classic. Meat eaters, don't be scared: the vegan/veg entrée options are hearty and delicious-- try the Camper's Special if you don't believe me. The front of the restaurant has more of a dive ambiance, with tall booths and bar seating. It's a great place to catch an app and drinks with friends, and rarely has a long wait. If you come with a family, ask to be seated in the back addition. It's kid-friendly and much easier to hear a conversation across large parties (I've sat in the back at a table for 8 with no problem). Bottom line: don't eat at Sammy T's if you want a whitewashed Americana burger/beer dining experience. Roll your stroller into the line at Capital Ale House. But, if you have an adventurous palate and are looking for a place with a great local reputation, eat here.

So if you've read anything about the booths being uncomfortable, after sitting here for 45 minutes I can assure you they really suck! As I sit here wondering if we've been forgotten, maybe our food was given to someone else by mistake, or maybe they just don't like my goatee. Not sure.....I fear death may come before our food. I wish I had told my family I loved them before I came in here. Oh! Wait here it is. I'll take a picture so this moment of depression can last forever.

I have mixed feelings about this place. I've been coming here for nearly 15 years with my mother who has been both vegan and vegetarian. This is one of her favorite restaurants. I find it to be hit or miss, both the service and the food. The Mediterranean appetizer with the hummus, tzatziki and fresh vegetables is one of our favorites. I also love the Ellen salad with the felafel and the tahini dressing. In the summer they have a great gazpacho. However, I have found that since having my daughter 2 years ago, I find that we are received with some sort of negative attitude every time we have come here with our stroller. The first time we sat outside and were told we had to fold up the stroller to keep it out of the way of the sidewalk. We were at the corner table so I just pushed it around the side of the building and it left plenty of room for people to get by. The next time we came here, this was not okay and the server actually argued with me that it HAS to be folded up completely because of the FIRE CODE and they will receive a TICKET due to our stroller being on the sidewalk despite the fact that plenty of people were able to get by without any issue. This was quite inconvenient for us as my daughter was sleeping in it at the time, so I then had to wake her up, take her out and sit awkwardly at this 2-person table with a cranky baby on my lap the entire time. The next time I came I decided against sitting outside ever again in order to avoid this issue entirely. The moment we walked in the door, we were greeted and then I immediately started trying to take my daughter out of the stroller so I could fold it up and leave it up front. The hostess then said "YOU ARE GOING TO HAVE TO LEAVE YOUR STROLLER HERE" as if she could not see I was already preparing to do just that. My daughter was a little cranky and didn't want to get out, so I told my bf to just go ahead and sit down and I would take care of the stroller. The hostess stood there and stared at us awkwardly like as if trying to verify that I was in fact leaving the stroller there. So overall, I do not find this to be a very welcoming place for families with small children. It is all college kids working here and they do not want to be bothered I guess. Also should mention that the one time I tried the frozen yogurt around back, all the toppings were covered in mold and appeared to have been sitting out for a long period of time.

Definitely not what I expected when we walked in. It looks like it's just a dive bar. And probably should just be a dive bar. The booths are tiny and very cramped. Not a place for big parties. My husband, toddler, and I stopped in this passed weekend for lunch. Husband ordered the burger and a side of fries, I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, and ordered our son the kids chicken tenders. Food was meh. Our server was friendly and helpful. But I feel like this is a place for vegans and vegetarians. Live and learn.

So its a dive bar, the food wasn't horrible. I had the fish and chips. The fish breading was great but it didn't have the best flavor. The fries were lack luster but my sangria was pretty good! I'm all about drinks so that's when the dive bar aspect brought my review up to 3 stars.

I'm not a vegan or vegetarian. I'm actually closer to paleo minded. If you are looking for vegan/veg food, nearly 1/2 their menu is dedicated to you. I purchased chips with housemade salsa (store bought chips, good salsa - i'dk about how in-house it is though), $5 salmon blt on pumpernickel (bread freshish, not in-store-made, the lettuce Is full, large leaves - so that's good, the salmon nearly flavorless and very overcooked, bacon was generous, premade & crispy - not too fatty) $12 I also ordered a apple crisp which is a discrace to apple crisp, see picture. $4 - I think Overall I would not bother coming here again u less I was seeking veg-type foods.

Very wide ranging menu, can satisfy pretty much any taste or food preference. Even though it was Saturday night, it wasn't a human car wash. Service was great - friendly without being clingy - and the food was just what we were looking for. Would certainly go back.

Overall, this is a good little place that desperately needs sprucing up. The decor is outdated and creepy, with tiny wooden booths and a ceiling covered in red plastic tiles. We were promptly greeted and seated next to the window, but our waitress took a while, and when she finally showed up, she had the most sour expression on her face (I read some reviews that mention a lackadaisical waitress - they are not exaggerating). The menu offers a variety of vegetarian and vegan dishes, as well as dishes that include meat. We got sweet potato fries (good), black beans and rice (bland), tempeh burger (OK, but with a soggy bun) and spinach foldover (best dish we had and the portion was huge). The owner, who was serving other tables, appeared to be an extremely pleasant guy, and I have no doubt that our experience would have improved immensely if he had been our waiter instead of Ms. Sourface. However, if you are vegetarian or vegan, there is really no place else to go in Fredericksburg, so I hope this restaurant improves.

Small cozy but uncomfortable booths. food was okay, have had better but I've also had worse Frozen yogurt is just horrible, tasted like soap. Maybe they just cleaned the machines and needed another rinse? No clue.

Ate here last week, got the club sandwich was pretty big but more bread than meat and that's not what I expect from a traditional club. Other then that the sandwich and service was good. They need a wow factor to take them to 5 stars.
