Mister Jim’s Submarines Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Subs are good! Just don't try to use one of their coupons from their website on your phone. They will only accept them if they are printed. Kind of ridiculous in this day and age.

The best sub in Hampton Roads! ! Mister Jims Special is a local favorite. ..and mine too :-)

Outstanding breakfast. I recommend the bacon, egg, & cheese biscuit with sour cream & onion chips and a large sweet iced tea. Their lunch & dinner are also good, but not quite as remarkable. Make sure to get to Mister Jim's before 10:30 AM so you can get their breakfast!

Excellent sandwiches and service. Don't forget a cookie! Hottest spot in Great Bridge!!

Stopped in to give them another shot Saturday and came away disappointed yet again. What am I missing? There isn't anything special about their bread, onion rings or Italian Salami Pepperoni sub. I picked up 2 for hubby and I and requested extra mayo on one. One came with barely any mayo (we surmised it was mine) and one came with no sauce, mayo or anything. It had quite a bit of meat on it but other than that, nothing to write home about. Maybe someone should tell me what their specialty is? I've even had the philly steak and cheese...nothing spectacular.

This place is overpriced and the food is nothing to write home about. The food is nothing great - people in Chesapeake must have tasteless tastebuds if they think this place is somewhat a classic in Great Bridge. Issues: The teenage girls that work there are far from ever being valedictorians! They can't seem to get orders correct or the cooks in the back don't know how to read!!! Good luck on the timing of calling in an order - I am ALWAYS put on hold for more than a few minutes - one time more than 8 minutes! And they ALWAYS get something wrong with my order when called in - you never know how bad they screw it up until you get home. Nothing is special about their sub rolls. Just a plain sub roll The Philly Steak subs have some weird, spicy sauce added that I swear is just there to hide the bland taste of the crappy meat they use (Ribeye my ass!). Look at their Philly Steak and Cheese ingredients - What a joke - they stuff it full of lettuce & tomatoes (Who puts that on a Steak and Cheese??) I think they fill it with these other ingredients to hide the fact that they put so little steak (mystery meat) in there. And they use AMERICAN Cheese as the standard cheese - who does that? Provolone Cheese should be the standard. To top it off, they charge almost $8 for this concoction of crap! They have a "Tender Steak" sub - what a joke - a cut above a school lunch but it's nothing more than a couple of pieces of thick "Steak-Um" and cheese - stuffed with lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. Hardly any meat at all - and you will pay close to $8 for this! A total rip-off! Website design - their web site looks like something put together back in 2000 or designed by a 10th grader doing a final project for, "introduction to web design". Overall, I've never been impressed with Mister Jim's over the years. We eat from there every 6 months or so - My wife does like their Roasted Turkey Breast sub so we only eat there when she has a yearning for one. As far as Steak and Cheese subs - this place can't compete against the likes of Y-Not Pizza and a recently closed sub shop called Snag's. Oh, The Grill at Great Bridge also has better sandwiches! As far as all of Mister Jim's winning any awards from the Pilot's "Best of Hampton Roads" awards - that goes to prove that those awards are not real - just popularity contests - I wonder how much stores pay into it as well! Bottom line - this is a bland sub shop with a bland menu - nothing special - they are more apt to screw up your order than get it right and it's just plain over-priced - Dare I say, Subway is better than this place!

Most awesome sandwiches moved away from the area 9 years ago and have to stop here every time we get to town!

Great alternative to the commercial sub shops. Local favorite always busy. Staff was wonderful. Philly, Mr Jims special and Turkey club are all great. Pizza is great as well.

Service okay, speed good. Deluxe Philly cheese steak was good but not great. It's better than anything you can get at a chain in the area. The prices are also really fair. The interior could use a facelift but it fits the atmosphere.

For a place that has been here so long and has so much hype. I guess I was expecting more. I had come here before when I was a cable repair guy. The value for the money is great. However the food although made fresh was just average to me. The fries were soggy and not that great. To much liquid in the subs which makes them become soggy quickly. I ordered the cheese steak full size sub. It was ok. Nothing I would rave about unless I had nothing to compare it to. The service was pretty good , the cashier was attentive and explained things. I may have ordered something that they don't make that great buy my gfs Gyro was pretty crap and not made with the same quality or care as the subs. My advice, skip it. And be very specific with how you want your sub. Like if I went back I would tell them I don't want it to be soggy because it honestly makes them taste rather bland. Also be careful with how much they put on the sub in regard to condiments. Like mayo, if you don't want a lot. Tell them because they will slap it on with a shovel. It's worth a try but I was not impressed. You can go down the road one block to the grill at great-bridge and get a better cheese steak.

I've been told this place is an institution, and there's a reason why. Mister Jim's is known for their "submarines" - or as I call them; grinders. I walked into Mister Jim's already knowing that I was going to try their cheese steak. I ordered the half size Philly Steak and Cheese Deluxe which has onions, peppers, mushrooms, cheese (duh), lettuce, tomato and mayo. We also ordered a regular size fresh cut french fry. First off, you know it's a good grinder when it comes in a paper sleeve. Second, the "regular" size fry is HUGE, MASSIVE, enough for 2.5 people. The cheese steak was top notch - great bread and the beef was tender. The fries were perfectly cooked and tasted even better with malt vinegar they have on all of the tables. The staff was friendly. The restaurant was clean and looked like it was recently renovated. Prices were super reasonable. Can't wait to go back again, but I'll have to save room for one of their giant cookies!

Goods Subs! Good Fries! Worst Pizza i've ever had. Have you ever heard that phrase "Even when Pizza is bad, it' still pretty good?" Well, Mister Jims proved that statement wrong. I live near and get subs from here pretty often, and they taste quite good. Plus, the place has a bit of a local hometown feel to it compared to some franchised sandwich shop, which I appreciate. I had a coupon to try one of their pizzas one time and the pizza was truly horrid. It was chewy with barely much taste at all only drenched in grease. If you are in the area and want to support a local business, stop by for a good sandwich or order of fries just stay clear of the pizza!

Well I have heard this place was great, based on the reviews it probably is, based on what I ordered not so much. In hind site I probably should have ordered a sub at a sub shop, but I saw Gyro and got excited. I'm from Chicago and still on the search for a good Gyro here. so I ordered it with the hand cut fries to share with my BF. He ordered the Philly Cheese Steak. I opened the paper and said "That's it?" The Gyro was awful, I could tell it was just generic frozen meat slices they are buying from who knows where, only 3 maybe four little mushy slices, the Tzatziki Sauce is always my favorite part if it is good, it was not. The pita was not grilled or toasted and felt a bit rubbery. The hand cut fries were very fresh but were soggy, no crisp at all. Again, I probably ordered the wrong item. In my opinion they need to remove it from the menu all together, if its there just to have it whats the point? The menu is huge and it will not be missed, If your gonna make something, make it good! My BF said his sandwich was good, although too much Mayo was on it and he wished there were more peppers. The bread left more to be desired. The things I did enjoy was the greasy spoon feel of the place, the girls at the counter were all very nice, the ice tea was great and the cookies were wonderful. I know they are not home made since I asked the girl if they make the cookies themselves and she said no we bake them ourselves. Either way I had White Chocolate Macadamia Nut and it was wonderful! My BF had Chocolate Chip, it was very gooey and delicious. I will give Mr Jims another chance and try a sub next time!

I thought the food was outstanding, the prices reasonable, and the service quick. The store was clean and the atmosphere friendly! What more do you need?

My husband grew up in Chesapeake and on our drive up he really talked this place into 5 stars. I figured it was just a warped childhood memory and the food couldn't actually be that good! Well, I was wrong. I can see why this place is such a staple to its' neighborhood. Sandwiches were made to perfection, timely, and the service is super nice. The only thing that would give this place 5 stars is if it were organic ;) Maybe someday in the future.

Teenage kids squirting pimple cream on each other, don't care one bit about the customers, or providing service. Bread comes right out of a bag and is low quality. Ingredients are totally cheap and this place has no business being in the sandwich business. Come on, the main ingredient is bread with something put in the middle. If you can't provide decent bread then you should think about getting out of the sandwich business. The profit margin must be huge at this place because the ingredients and the service is terrible. Owner is a great business entrepreneur making tons of money by assuming that people that live in Great Bridge are stupid rednecks who will pay money for complete crap sandwiches.

Awesome food, all the time. Recipe's don't change and their sweet tea is to die for! The homemade cookies and brownies are amazing as well. Just don't expect to find a "healthy" thing on the menu, unless you get grilled chicken without the bun or cheese..

A Great Bridge essential. Great Subs, awesome onion rings, killer chicken salad. They are always busy, but the service is brisk. We have eaten here many times, and it is always great. LOVE it. _Laine

yummmmmmmy! I ate here yesterday on a whim and was not disappointed! Philly Cheese Deluxe was divine and a homemade white chocolate macadamia cookie was out of this world! Highly recommend this place!

Jim's Subs are delicious heart attacks. Of course, I'm not talking about their veggie subs. Their Philly steak & cheese are fantastic. I'm glad that they deliver. Also, we get coupons in the mail (buy 2 get 1 free, I think), so it can be quite a good deal. Dining is fine. It isn't the best environment, but it's suitable for eating subs. Service is fine. Food is good. All around, it is a good experience.

Food was always great here...and never a problem until last night. Pizza arrived with houseful of guests. Pizza had been dropped or someting and all the toppings were on one end or stuck on lid of box. We called the manager to "inform" not ask for anything free or even for them to make it right..and got a very rude response. He said..Must not have been so bad..you ate it. and had the attitude of not really caring. The time before we did not receive the cookies we had paid for. Left that for them on email, with no apology or response. There are too many good sub and pizza places to have to deal with this type of customer service and after two years of being regular customers...spending an average of 30 per visit. We won't be back

I'm a huge sandwich/sub guy, and love checking out new sandwich/sub places. I have been hearing about Mister Jim's subs for years! I was in the area and I figured I should check this place out finally. Am I happy I did? Hell yeah. Does it suck that I have gone so many years without? Oh yeah. This place was delicious! My friend (a former regular) and I ordered two sandwiches for me to try. The Beef Bacon Cheddar and The Chicken Parmesan. Both hit the hungry stomach spot nicely! The Beef Bacon Cheddar trumped The Chicken Parmesan by just a bit. The Chicken Parmesan had just the right amount of marinara, and it didn't invade the whole sandwich. The roast beef, bacon and cheddar flavors that blended together in the Beef Bacon Cheddar sub that was delicious! I need to try more of their subs, for sure. Now here's some philosophy that a foodie friend shared with me "if the fries are awesome, then you know the rest of the food will be awesome. If the fries aren't good, the the food may be iffy." This philosophy did not prove false at Mister Jim's! Those fries were made right complimenting the sandwiches awesomely! However, I did have to keep tabs on the fries when they came out. They weren't sent out with the sandwich. Must try this place more!! :)

Went here for lunch with my sister. I had the Chicken Breast and Cheese Sandwich and it was fantastic. The chicken was juicy and it had great flavor. They didn't overdo it with the mayo. They were fast and efficient and very friendly. My sister had the reuben and fries. We wound up sharing the fries because it was a lot and they were very good. Reminiscent of Five guys fries which are awesome. Free refills on soda and tea. Clean eating area. I will most definitely be back to try some more. I even had one of their cookies and it was very good as well. It is always nice to find a good sandwich shop and I'm happy that we found this one. I also thought the pricing was good. I had a half sandwich (which was plenty), a soda, and a cookie and it came out to $8.11.

We have lived in Great Bridge for over 20 years. Over the years we have ordered from Mister Jims at least once a month. We never really had any issues until the last few months. There were incidents where the online ordering system gave me confirmation and the restaurant stated they never received an order. We then did voice call orders and were told a 15-45 minute wait. after 1.5 hours we finally received our food cold an soggy. I have brought their leftovers to work and reheated them and they tasted better than the 'fresh' delivery we just received. I am just wondering did ownership/management change over the last few months? I don't know what happened but we are very disappointed and an old family favorite is no more.

My child's pizza was late coming out and without even a hint of a complaint from us we were handed a full refund on the entire order. That is excellent customer service. We come at least once a week and it is always a great experience.

This place never changes and that's a good thing. You can't fix perfection. Bonus tip: It's one of the few places in the area that you can get birch beer on tap.

Glad we finally made it to this unassuming but iconic mainstay of Chesapeake. Varied menu with great food. Wife loved the Deluxe Gyro and I was a fan of the Mr. Jim's Combo. Looks like they had recently remodeled the inside - the booths and tables looked great. We returned on Veteran's Day and greatly appreciated their discount that day. Thank you! The food was just as good, but they was apparently some sort of thermostat war as the front staff was freezing, but the keeper of the thermostat was hot back on the grill or something. It was humorous.
