Reviews:
Finished up with work early today, was craving some Smoothie King. I went in not knowing the name of the drink I wanted. No worries, Vachon with immaculate service and extraordinary communication skills was there. He help me narrow down exactly what to drink wine, and when I still was not sure he offered to allow me to try it. He was confident it was the drink. He was able to really go into it and explain to me about the consistency and flavor, what would ruin the flavor and to add to it. Just an all-around wonderful experience at smoothie King. I'm not a review writer or anything like that but this guy had me leave and feel the need to yelp that specific smoothie king, get the phone number, ask for his name, and here I am! Thank you Vachon! I will definitely be back. Probably calling to make sure you are there before I go to the one closer to me
My favorite smoothie place! I prefer this place over Tropical Smoothie & Robeks. I usually order the Mangosteen Madness or Passion Passport without sugar. Both my favorites especially because I love papaya. The smoothies here are great without sugar compared to Tropical Smoothie! There are so many options with several enhancers available! They have a range of regular fruit smoothies, Chobani smoothies, Ghirardelli Dark Chocolate smoothies, & even veggie smoothies. Their medium & the king sized are huge so I usually stick to small which is around $5. They also have a bunch of snacks & other beverages. I stop by whenever I have a smoothie craving & I'm usually in & out in less than 5 minutes. Almost every time I go in, there's usually no line & the staff is super friendly!
I had the the peach smoothie. It was ok. I could barely taste the peaches. I will give this place a second chance and I hope the next smoothie I have is flavorful.

We we went here for dinner in a party of 5. Most of the menu was in Korean but the waitress did her best to explain the menu. We went with the "Special A" although we were not entirely sure what we were going to get. It was AWESOME! The waitress kept bringing plate after plate of pan chans that it was like ordering at a tapas restaurant. After all the panchan she brought out an entire fried fish was was beautiful and delicious. Then next course was a giant sashimi boat with fresh flounder from their tank, rock fish, white tuna, red tuna, salmon, and yellow tail. The sashimi took an extra 5 minutes so they gave us a complimentary Korean pancake dish! There was so much food and all 5 of us were stuffed but that wasn't the end. Next came a spicy fish soup and a tasty yogurt dessert drink with our check. The cost of the special was $150 so for 5 people it was really reasonable and we were all stuffed. Definitely going again! Great service, great food, excellent quality, and good price!
I've been here twice and will definitely go back. First time I got kimichi stew which was very good, spicy and hit the spot. Second time I got sushi, the spicy salmon and eel roll were delicious. Both times I ordered tea and they didn't charge me for it. Also they bring out these little samples of various dishes before your meal, all complimentary and tasty.
Great korean seafood place. Nothing extraordinary on the menu, but everything was fresh and tasted as they should. Nothing to complain about here.

Duck Chang’s Restaurant

4427 John Marr Dr
Annandale, 22003
Reviews:
This is a hidden gem of Annandale! Duck Chang's is my family's go-to restaurant when we want to celebrate and eat Peking duck. Many places we've tried has had dry pancakes or dry/small-portioned duck slices, but this tops it all. We are such regulars that whenever we go, the chef knows to save the duck tails for my dad (the family that owns it is super friendly too and makes great conversation with us). If you try this place out, I recommend getting the Peking duck with the mu shu on the side to add to your roll. This place isn't located where the main road could see it, so it isn't usually crowded whenever we go (which is nice because this is a hidden treasure of a restaurant and we enjoy our privacy). Atmosphere is pretty dark with the dimmed lighting, and the tables are set very close to each other, but that's not that big of a deal since the food makes up for it!
Came here around 930 pm on a Friday night and they sat us down right away. I haven't been here for over 7 years! This place looks a bit run down but they had been in business for the longest time. They definitely need some renovations. My boyfriend and I ordered half a duck, some chicken lo mien and egg drop soup which was around 45 bucks in total. The duck has more flavor here than the Peking Gourmet Inn but I would've asked for some recommendations for their other dishes. The half a duck actually was very filling. I wish they had cucumbers to go with their duck though. Definitely an authentic restaurant!
I am a die hard Peking Gourmet fan (located in Bailey's crossroads) but Duck Chang's is an excellent second choice because of its convenient location and you don't have to wait hours or need an rsvp a week beforehand. I also appreciate that they have half ducks on the menu because then you can also order something to enjoy without dying of overeating. Their duck is pretty solid here and they have the nice crispness to their skin. The meat was tender and not oily at all. They serve green onions with the duck which seems kind of old because they were really crunchy but whatever it was just onions. We also ordered their general tso's chicken which you can't go wrong with. Perfect amount of breading and meat and the sauce was yum. The service is always great here and the lady serving us was so sweet. I also like the huge wall mirror because it makes the restaurant seem less stuffy because of its small size. I wish the lights were a little brighter but all stuff I can overlook for some good duck.

A&J

Reviews:
I effing love A&J. I go practically once a week and I don't do that for any other restaurant in my excessively large list. Why, you ask? Well aside from the fact that this place is dirt cheap and thus works with my college student budget, the food is just that damn good. I've tried about 60% of the menu, and I can still say this. Standouts: Scallion pancake, steamed beef dumplings, pan fried beef bun, the seaweed and bean sprout salad, mustard greens with soybeans and I think bean curd skins, smoked chicken, and the spicy cucumber salad. And of course since they give you free tea, why bother with a drink? BUT the bubble tea here is pretty decent and fairly priced. Coffee and passion fruit are my two favorites. Service is great - seems to be the same people working there everytime I go, but they know the menu very well and are very attentive to making sure nothing will interact with food allergies or anything if you speak to them about it. Order everything at least once. You can even afford to. Oh, by the way, cash only.
holy crap the dim sum here is SO DELICIOUS. seriously. it's been awhile since i've had such a different, unique and tasty tastes! i came with three other friends, we went on a saturday around 1:30 and still had to wait a half hour, but the wait was definitely worth it. service was very good, food came quickly, and in the perfect amounts. my friends and i LOVED everything we ordered: potstickers, steamed dumplings, thousand layer cake, wide noodles w/peanut sauce (BIG fave of all of ours), veggie steamed bun, seaweed and bean sprout salad, thin noodles in a soy-saucy sauce...i can't remember what else, but really, ALL the food was soooo good. compared to mark's duck house for dim sum, this place has better variety, tastes better and seems much healthier. i find that mark's duck house dim sum is too greasy, and in a way, tastes the same. i can't recommend this place enough!
not as good as the sister store in rockville, md. if i need a quick A&J fix i would hit the annandale since i live in arlington, va.

IMM Thai Cuisine

Reviews:
I finally gave in to Alexis K's wish to try out IMM Thai. If you have read my other reviews you will know I am not a particular huge fan of Thai food. With that being said I found this place to surpass my expectations. My girlfriend and I ended up ordering three dishes which were the Hide and Seek Chicken, Short Rib curry and the cracked black pepper shrimp. Three dishes split between two people was more than enough. The food took awhile to come out from the kitchen (~30 min) but the waitress kindly assured us it was coming. The lag was due to the the short rib curry. We were informed from the waitress this dish takes awhile to cook. The Hide and Seek chicken was my favorite dish. This dish reminded me of chicken biriyani an Indian dish. The rice was very flavorful and I enjoyed the green sauce you drizzle on top of your chicken. The short rib curry was also very flavorful with tender beef chunks, it had a hint of sweetness and spiciness. The spices complimented each other well. Lastly the shrimp dish was definitely seasoned with a lot of black pepper which is what the dish name implies. They were not joking around. I found the black pepper to be a bit overwhelming but that did not take away too much from the dish. It was still tasty and there were ample amount of shrimps provided. I hear they are expanding and opening a second location in D.C. I hope the food is still as tasty the next time I come around. I shall be back soon. P.S. Happy hour is from 4-7 everyday. If you are a fan of Singha it's $3 a bottle during HH.
Larb Gai Pineapple fried rice Drunken noodles (chicken) Basil fried rice (shrimp) Thai iced tea The outside appearance of IMM is very modest, but there is nothing modest about their food. The larb gai was spicy and tangy. It went very well with my Thai iced tea. My husband is very picky with his food, and does not like onions. He punished his drunken noodles. There was absolutely nothing left on his plate, which was a VERY generous portion. He said it was the best drunken noodles he has ever had in his life... I laughed it off, but he made me try some and I was impressed with how fresh the vegetables were, and the texture of the noodles. They weren't soggy, mushy, or clumped together, but chewy and flavorful. My sister ordered the pineapple fried rice, and she said it was very good. It had a hint of spice from curry, and some sweetness from the pineapples and raisins. IMM's pineapple fried rice comes with asian sausage, and I think some pieces of ham. She ordered her food with shrimp, and they were HUGE. She couldn't finish her food, so she asked for a to go box....which surprised me because she never takes food home. When I asked how her food was, she replied, "Yummy." I ordered the basil fried rice with shrimp, and the first thing I noticed was how crispy the onions and peppers were. They weren't raw, but not fully cooked. It was the perfect in between that gives you just enough crisp, with a hint of warmth. Again, the shrimp were HUGE. I think my dish was the best out of the three main dishes we ordered, but my husband and sister say it's theirs. You be the judge! Do not judge a book by its cover, ladies and gentlemen. IMM is a hidden Thai pearl in a sea of Korean restaurants.
I've always wanted to tried this place I'm glad I did...I did ordered duck roll and drunkin noodle...duck roll was my first it was pretty good and drunkin noodle portion was generous lots of veggies I liked it compare to other places... Interior wise is nice modern decor...a hidden gem next to korean shops this used to be soju bar place when I grew up...

This place doesn't look appealing from the outside but the inside is nicely decorated and the service is unbeatable! I've only seen male servers there but they're all super friendly and willing to help you. The food is tasty. I always get the spicy mussels appetizer and they're so good! I also like their chicken katsu, it's not greasy at all and it has the perfect level of fried crispiness! I usually get that with their sashimi bibimbap which is also super tasty with the perfect amount of sashimi! Comes with a small salad and baked egg to start off with then it's served with soup, cole slaw (super good cole slaw), kimchi, pickled radish, and the katsu sauce. You're always welcome to ask for more sides or sauce free of charge. At the end of the meal, you get a complimentary choice of coffee, vanilla ice-cream, or a little sweet liquid yogurt drink to finish your meal with. Love this place and the ambiance! Definitely worth the price! The mussels are $7 and the katsu with sashimi bibimbap is $16! Can't beat that!
3.5 We've been wanting to try a place with udon since our trip to Japan. This place was ok. Most of our group got a combo with udon and a protein. The pork cutlet was pretty tasty and I liked it with both the dipping sauce and with the salad and dressing. The udon was also ok for me. I wouldn't necessarily seek it out again. I thought the price was fair for the amount of food. Was a little disappointed in the service - it was two guys who were quick to greet but then after that you had to grab them for anything. The table settings were also really haphazard. Does it matter? I guess not but it shows the level of care for the restaurant. Also they ran out of ice cream.
**Food = 3.5 stars, the boost of .5 is for friendly service!** My friend finally took me to one of his favorite spots in Annandale after having to cancel the first two times. I really wanted to like this place, but it just didn't leave an impression on me. Entrees are affordable and food seemed standard, some type of katsu with rice, meat with rice, or udon noodles. We came here on a weekday for dinner, I ordered the pork katsu & udon noodle platter and my friend ordered the sashimi bibim. The menu items are budget friendly and you even get free ice cream after your meal! I would like to come back and try the sashimi bibim, which looked really appetizing and to give this place another shot. Other than that, there's not much else pulling me back here.

Very comparable to Korean food in L.A. K-town. Which is a big plus. the bulgogi, is a little dry, but their Bibimbap is awesome. Definitely should get it if you are in a mood for it, especially the Bibimbap with Galbi. The only gripe that I have with it is that the Galbi does not have the bone in it. There's that certain satisfaction of taking that meat off of the bone, but could be a plus for some people. The Soondubu (tofu stew) is good, but not the best. It's better in Rowland Heights, CA. Like here, they don't really know what "as spicy as possible" means really. Thought that it was odd that they don't give eggs to put in the Soondubu. It's good, but not great. Appetizers were good as usual. Not much to say there. Definitely would go again. Comparable. Just not the best. Oh, and it's a very traditional Korean restaurant. The waitresses are very courteous and definitely give you the service that you would expect from a Korean restaurant. They are pretty prompt too, which is sort of hard to find at a Korean restaurant I find.
24 hour Korean BBQ - what could be better? You can have kimchi and bulgogi for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you like! DC/Northern VA food is not all that good, but Yechon is certainly one of the best restaurants in the area. I've had better kimchi in NJ, but Yechon is good too. The bulgogi is amazing - not too too greasy and you have the option of having the waitresses cook in front of you at the table. The mushrooms included in it are also a nice touch. Some things to note, the restaurant is always packed, no matter what time of day you go. The waitresses dress in traditional Korean outfits which is cool too. The staff overall aren't particularly friendly, but they get the job done. I had one encounter with the manager when I went with a friend at lunch time on a busy afternoon and he was kind of rude, but it didn't impact my feelings towards the food or the overall experience. Lastly, Lunch specials are a great deal too...lots of food for only $8 or $9!
Annandale has probably the 3rd largest Korean community outside of Los Angeles, CA and Flushing, NY. When business takes us to Virginia and we are craving some Korean food, we always make a stop at Yechon. This restaurant is easy to find and is located right off of Route 236 and Hummer Road next to 7-Eleven. This BBQ house is open 24-hours and has people eating at all hours of the night. They offer their full menu except for their sushi bar. Kalbi is my first choice and is pretty well marinated. The side dishes "ban-chan" they bring out with your order is plentiful. Other dishes recommended are Bulgogi, Spicy Daeji Bulgogi and Bulgogi Bibim Bap. For the inexperienced, Kalbi is not cheap. You can estimate about $25-27 per order and chances are you will need about one order per person!
