Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Absolute gem... The separation between bar and restaurant is brilliant. It creates two completely different environments. I have tried almost every item on menu including newly added Brunch (Eggs Benedict) and have been impressed by creativity of Mackie's kitchen staff. The bar staff is fun friendly and very professional, they also make delicious beverages.

Amazing owner! This place is friendly, the food is good, and the wine was flowing the night I went! They've been open about 6 months. Very nice staff with a very engaging owner. We'll definitely be coming back!

It is a rare thing nowadays to find a spot with exceptional service and genuine friendliness from wait staff. My bf chose this place because it had pretty good brunch reviews and we weren't expecting much as we walked in. You walk into a cute little bar space and lounge area that you can dine at with a huge tv and bar or you can sit in the private dining area in the back with white leather couches and dimly lit atmosphere (kind of romantic!). We decided to order the bulgogi hoagie (due to the crazy number of reviews to try it) and French toast since it was brunch after all. We also checked in on yelp and got a free glass of house wine (yay, yelp!). After we ordered, the owner stopped by our table and told us we need to try the bulgogi hoagie and that it would be on the house. Obviously, Asians are more critical of Asian fusion foods than non-Asians so I think he just wanted some honest feedback. We were a little surprised by how nice and friendly the owner, Sang, was. The hoagie turned out to be pretty good actually and the bulgogi marinade was spot on! We wished there was a little bit more spice and kick to the cucumber kimchi but that's just because me and my bf love spice bombs. The French toast was delish too and we were stuffed and almost couldn't finish....but we did. Absolutely love the fact that the restaurant is named after Sang's (the owner) wife and a lot of the ingredients come fresh from their own backyard. It's no five star restaurant but it has good food, good feels, and probably the best service we've seen in a really long time!! Even the little details like fresh roses on the table down to even providing feminine hygiene products in the bathroom shows that this place just really cares about their customers experience. Will definitely be back when we come back to Old Town, and especially to try their homemade ice cream!!

This was a good meal. I almost passed by the location however a wonderful server outside lured us in with half price bottle of wine . After sitting in the window for a bit we had dinner. We both had the three course for 35. Lobster bisque, was great and caprese bits were very good and I'm stealing the idea for my next dinner party. Hanger steak and fries hubby liked better than I. It was good both ate all but for me was heavy. Chocolate cake was very good but a little dry and bread pudding was perfect wonderful awesome....need I say more. So let's talk about the pork belly...it was complimentary so I am not rating it. Was fatty, fatty, fatty not rendered. If I could use one word other than Yuck it would be jiggly. I would recommend them to the bitter green pesto on the steak plate in lieu of the raw parsley on the plate. We did like the meal I think the place it great. We will return just for the great atmosphere and good food. The burger looks great and I want to try the salmon. Orlando was a wonderful server. Ask for him!!

Mediocre burger and drink. They must've had an off-night. I talked to the hotel staff at The Morrison House and the consensus was 'We are not surprised. They've been going downhill.' I'm from out-of-town and I'm sad it was such a **blah** experience.

A little late on my review, but as they say, better late than never. Went here about 4 or 5 months ago to meet a friend who was in town. We sat in the front bar area which was cozy. They had some decent beer and wine options, I stuck with beer. My friend was friends with the owner, so he made some recommendations including the wings and their tuna tar tar. He bragged it was going to be the best tuna tar tar I have ever had. It wasn't. It wasn't the worst, but it was nothing special for tuna tar tar, kind of on the bland side from what I recall. I also ordered wings. I think I got jerk seasoning. They were like licking a salt block. One of the saltiest foods I've ever had at a restaurant. That night I woke up several times having to drink water from being overwhelmed with thirst. For what it's worth, my wife went with some co-workers for a work lunch and both she and her boss felt it was very salt as well. While the food I had was average at best, the staff was nice and friendly and the owner seemed to hold his establishment in high regard, which is a total plus. I just wish the food was better. I have not eaten a full sit down meal there in the back dining section. Seems odd how they're separated, I get that it's to cut down on noise, but I don't know, it feels cut off from the rest of the place to me. I haven't been back and don't plan on returning.

With the thunder storms that rolled through during 4th of July weekend we decided to forego trying to cook out, and try Mackies. Two parts to the restaurant we saw, front room is a small bar, that leads to a separate dining room in the back. Multiple 2/4 seat tables and one or two 6+ tables. We decided to go with the burgers. Half pound burger loaded with sautéed onions, mushrooms, and cheese. Decent bun. I got fries. Burgers weren't bad, they had a pretty decent flavor to them, but were greasier than what my wife liked, for me it wasn't too bad. $16 for a burger + add ons. Overall good experience, we had the basic hamburger, might come back to try something else.

It's strange to see Mackie's dining room (tucked away behind the bar) fairly empty on a beautiful Saturday night, but fortunately there were some hits (and misses) from our dinner. First of all, I hope our waitress cheer up a little bit. While she said all the right things in terms of politeness and courtesy, all four of us can tell her body language and tone were not the friendliest. Perhaps she had a bad day? I didn't under-tip her for this, as I hope it was just one of those nights. As far as food goes, the crab cake was a disaster. They were tiny, overcooked, and with charred crust that reminds me of carcinogen late night TV warn you about. The sides (french fries, garlic potatoes, green beans) were also a waste of space on our plates - they were overcooked (fries), too buttery (potatoes) and under-cooked (beans). But the steaks were delicious. My rib eye came cooked exactly to what I preferred (medium-well) while my partner had the filet mignon and it came out perfectly as well (medium). Were they better than Ruth's Chris or Capital Grille caliber? Nope, but they weren't $48-$55 either. All in all I really liked the steak but everything else were fairly forgettable. If I were in the area and crave for steak, I'd come back. But I wouldn't go out of my way. Tip #1: (some Yelpers have mentioned) check in on Yelp while you dine and get a free glass of house wine! Tip #2: they don't offer bulgogi hoagie during dinner time, which is unfortunate. So you're stuck with no steak offerings during lunch, and only one burger choice (no sandwich) for dinner.

First, let me tell you .... I'm never ever in Alexandria, Virginia. One main reason - I've never been impressed with the dining scene Old Town. However, I had to meet some colleagues in Alexandria, and I was tasked with finding a restaurant for dinner. I had no expectations whatsoever when I found Mackie's on Yelp. The reviews were good and it was rated 4 stars .... so I decided to give it a try. Boyyyy, was I happy I found this gem! The food was above my expectation and the drinks were great. I would highly encourage everyone to dine at this restaurant if they are in Old Town. The only thing I felt the restaurant could've improved upon is their customer service - it was average. Also, their pork belly appetizer wasn't that great. This is a no frills restaurant, but you won't be disappointed. Everything was cooked to order and was amazingly delicious.

Oh, I have been craving a good steak for longer than I can count, my fellow carnivores. So many pretenders to streaky delight have offered up their best, only to disappoint this aficionado of medium rare perfection. However, Mackie's hits the steak perfection mark with ease. Stepping into Mackie's, I was quickly aware of the fact that I was strolling into on of Old Town's cooler bar/restaurants. The vibe and decor are a cross between Mad Men and the Rat Pack. It's a hip spot where you could easily see yourself sipping on some fine bourbon or a martini. Yup, it's jazzy cool and that is no lie. My New York strip came out in no time at all, and I was a little wary of its blanket of cognac sauce. I personally feel that a steak should stand on its own, so I rarely opt for A-1 or anything in the same realm. However, with one bite of my steak it was obvious that they feel the same way at Mackie's. First, my New York strip was cooked to medium rare perfection and the cognac sauce was a superb compliment to it rich, beefy flavor. So, foodies, we have real star here, and I say you should rush down to this steak paradise as soon as possible. I seriously think they they might tempt a vegan or two away from all things veggie. In short, this was a steaktastic experience all the way.

Restaurant week offered 3 course meal for $35. First chose the lobster bisque which was, delicious and had chunks of lobster meat. Second course chose the hanger steak which was cooked to my liking and it too was very good. Homemade ice cream for dessert although they offered other options. Enjoyed the atmosphere and would come back again when in Alexandria.

Came here with friends for Alexandria restaurant week. The food was delicious. So flavorful, and nice portions. We came early for happy hour. They had half off wine bottles for happy hour so we shared a bottle at the 'ruby lounge' and then had another one that we brought to the dinner table. French onion soups was spot on. I ordered the lobster bisque, which was Also very good, but I kept wanting to dip my spoon for another bite from my friend's soup bowl. Steak was perfectly medium rare, red and juicy, just the way I like it. I would definitely come here again.

About a 1-1.5: I was excited to check out Mackie's Bar & Grill with ADRIENNE M. and RICKEY B. in OT Alexandria, ever since I'd heard about their famous Bulgogi Hoagie. The place is literally off of King Street and owned by Mr. Sang Lee and his wife, Suzie. The menu offers lunch/dinner/late night/bar items, desserts, and a nice wine/drink list. We tried the Lobster Bisque (which came with a touch of cognac; this was more on the watery side and hardly any lobster meat within), the Bulgogi Hoagie (thin slices of rib eye, gochujang, and lettuce; you can opt to add a side of house-made cucumber kimchi (which I did); the hoagie was supposed to come with a house slaw, but this was not included T___T The bulgogi meat was forgettable and not as savory and delicious as I'd heard it being T____T The lettuce was wilted, and the cucumber kimchi was inedible - they were under-pickled, not at all fermented, and had scallions and some red crushed peppers on it; no way did it taste remotely like kimchi; I'm surprised, as the owner is Korean...), wings (we had 1/2 jerk-flavored and 1/2 buffalo; it was supposed to be 1 lb of wings, but it seemed to be way less... the bleu cheese dressing on the side was extremely thick and very pungently bleu-cheesy, so bleu cheese fans will enjoy this), and the Trio of Sliders (a cheeseburger, BBQ pork, and a meatball; the cheeseburger was very dry and very bland; the BBQ pork was okay, but a little too wet and not enough of a BBQ taste to it; the meatball was soft, but it was more on the sweeter side). I also tried their housemade mint lemonade, which I was surprised at being carbonated (made with seltzer water?); I appreciated the generous amount of mint leaves within, though. With a Yelp check-in, you get a glass of their house wine - either red or white (I opted for the white, which was a Sauvignon Blanc). Our server, Hasan M., was soooo unbelievably sweet and accommodating, and he had a great sense of humor! He alone made our dining experience bearable, as we were all just sooooo disappointed with the food. The place itself is cute, and I was recommended to come back when the main chef is on-site (who is usually there during the dinner/weekends). I am not sure if I'd go back, but if you'd like to give Mackie's a try, I highly recommend in requesting Hasan for a pleasant service!!! :D +free glass of house wine with Yelp check-in! +housemade mint lemonade (carbonated) +forgettable Bulgogi Hoagie T___T +inedible cucumber kimchi T____T +underwhelming food T____T +ask for Hasan M. :D :D :D

Stopped in for lunch, and instead of my usual BLT (phenomenal) had the ceviche plate. Delicious! Light, perfect portion and just right for a hot summer day.

I stop in here about once a week after work for late night food. Decent wine list. USB ports built into the bar. Juke box is controlled by an app you can download. Bartenders are cool. Good locals spot

Street parking plentiful on Sunday @ 8. (Free on Sundays) Hostess was happy and welcoming! We were checking out the menu from the outside and she invited us in, then Insisted that we come in... I then let her in on the secret that we already had a reservation! Appetizer : Pork Belly in Sauce with side salad and apples Large plate with about 4 ounces of a dime of sliced pork belly. So so. Would recommend another appetizer, the salad, apples, and sauce however on the side were awesome. Entree : special of the night Halibut in sweet curry sauce with mash (green beans , potatoes, and mushrooms) I asked for a nix on the potatoes and they adjusted. The dish was great, about 6 ounces of halibut. USDA Prime NY Strip au Poivre 14 oz. New York strip, (no bone in available here) flambé cognac peppercorn sauce, house-cut fries. The sauce is to die for!! Highly recommend. The medium done steak cooked French style was incredible. Dessert : home made 3 scoop ice cream please try the honey & peanut butter!!! (2 separate flavors) I also tried the vanilla! Knowledgeable waiter, quiet dining hall. 15 tables in the dining room & LOUD bar seating out front. Small dinner menu, but we made do. Very small cocktail menu, we just passed on drinks. Not sure we'll return until we've tried the neighboring Resturants in Old Town.

My boyfriend and I ate here during a short trip to Alexandria. We had traveled from out of state that day and were hoping for a nice dinner...we certainly got it! When we first walked in, we were a little concerned because the bar was pretty noisy, but the minute the hostess opened the door to the main dining room it was quiet and cozy. Our server was very attentive and knowledgable, and our food came to us in a very timely manner. The highlights in regards to food were the pork belly we ordered as an appetizer and the lobster ravioli that I ordered. Both were perfect! My boyfriend ordered the pappardelle with chicken and really enjoyed it as well. If we lived in the area, we would definitely be returning!

Best steak we've had in a long time. The filet was delicious and perfectly cooked. The 'susie' cocktail was absolutely delicious - I had to have a second. The dining room was smallish, and our table for 2 was tiny. The dining room is clean, and service is very good. However, I wouldn't call it romantic or cozy. We spent $150 for 4 drinks & 2 steak dinners, about what one would expect.

I brought my mom and dad to Mackies for lunch on Easter after we came back from Mt. Vernon. My dad liked the BBQ Pork sammy and my mom liked her three egg omelette. I had their Eggs Benedict and was satisfied. Customer service was nice and friendly. I can definitely tell I'm getting older because I wasn't annoyed by the music they played at a nice volume, unlike all the fricken hipster DC restaurants that have annoying high schoolers and annoying 20-something's who work on the hill, who suffer from vocal fry. Shutter. Anyway, nice place, nice food, nice people. About average.

I originally picked Mackie's because of the great yelp reviews. When I first walked in i thought it was a only a bar. After talking to the hostess who was very nice, she brought us to a seperate dining area in the back! We had 8 in our party and didn't call ahead but they were very accommodating. They had a decent selection of beers, but only a few from local area. I didn't mind this because I had good company and the dry aged rib eye I ordered was excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the taste was unbelievable! Prices are a bit on the higher end, but you get what u pay for, meaning that it's worth every penny! If your looking for a great steak place in the Alexandria area then this is it!!!

Excellent service from Phil the bartender. Super friendly and attentive. The food i ordered was the bulgogi hoagie with cucumber kimchi. It was disappointing. The bulgogi was salty and they give you two hot sauces to apply. A red paste and a lighter hot sauce. I applied both and it made it a little better but was still salty. My hoagie was soggie by the time it got to me. Fries were also salty. Just everything tasted salty. Surprising to me considering the owner is korean. Perhaps that's what I get for eating bar food. But with the consistent high reviews I expected better.

The service at this restaurant was exceptional. All staff was extremely friendly, and very welcoming. The establishment is very unique, and the set up is comforting. The food was pretty good. I ordered the lobster bisque an appetizer.

Ok giving this was only one visit. But I will definitely go back. We went in during holiday weekend. At the start we were alone in the "Steakhouse ". And then it filled up. Service was excellent. Friendly and attentive. As new staff came in we were greeted even though were not helping us. Had the aged burger and fries. And Ceasar salad. The salad had whole white anchovies. At first I was surprised but then searched them out. They were smooth and tasty. Had the key lime pot de creme perfect for a warm evening. So. For now a four.

Had the dry aged burger (medium rare) with fries. My wife had the same with salad. The burgers were a perfect pink inside and well seared outside. Every element, from the aged white cheddar to the sautéed mushrooms was flavorful and well balanced with the delicious dry aged beef. Phil Lee, the bartender was attentive, friendly and welcoming, even considering that we asked to bring our nine month old baby with us. If you want a great burger, good local beers on tap and great service, look no further.

Happened on Mackie's when I was looking for a place to go close to my house after a DC Rollergirls bout. It is located right next to the Majestic off King Street. The bar sits at the front and to get to the dining area you have to go through the single door at the back of the bar. The place as a whole is pretty small, but super cute and quaint. I loved the atmosphere. The service was some of the best. I loved the way all the servers tended to all the tables. We had our main waiter, but everyone was checking on us. And it wasn't overbearing. We started with: Prosecco 907 and a Double IPA beer Trio of Dips (Kalamata Olive Tapenade, Crab, Spinach and Artichoke) Lobster Bisque The drinks were fantastic. The crab dip was awesome. The other two were ok. I would get the crab again. The lobster bisque was absolutely amazing. It needed more lobster as there were 2 nickel size pieces and 4 dime size pieces. But the ones that were there were cooked to perfection. They weren't tough and overcooked. Main courses: Lobster Ravioli Pappardelle with pomodoro sauce and chicken The ravioli had 6 large homemade pieces and had some small pieces of lobster inside with the ricotta. The sauce was the bisque! The pappardelle was homemade and divine. The pomodoro sauce was nice and spicy. The grilled chicken had a great flame grilled flavor and was very juicy. We had no intention of dessert, but saw the Key Lime Pot de creme. Oh my. it was so, so good. I was stuffed, but it was worth it. I can't wait to go back. It is a little, quaint gem of Old Town that is unassuming from the outside and comforting and friendly on the inside. Next time we will order the steaks!

I just loved, loved, loved my restaurant week experience here. I am used to having smaller portions (to go with the smaller price tag) but you got the whole kit and kaboodle here. On top of the "value" the food itself was outstanding. I highly recommend the tuna tartar and the surf squared. The key lime whatever I had for dessert was so good. By far one of my favorite desserts I've had in a LONG time. The service was very good. So attentive and on top of things that my boyfriend asked me if it was possible for service to be "too good". In my opinion... NO! I will certainly be back again.

Wow, excellent! Went in for restaurant week a few weeks ago. I was extremely impressed by Mackie's. The food was very well done all around - everything we ordered off the menu came out perfect and timely. I will be back!! P.S. Neither of us got steaks or red meat, but what we saw others getting also looked great.

Went here around 6pm Friday and was seated right away without a reservation. Really nice and friendly staff. My husband really wanted a burger and was really satisfied. Wanted to give them 4 stars for the burger. I had two appetizers, tuna tartar and caprese bites. Tuna tartar was a nice size but had way to much wasabi taste. Really TO much, could not tast tuna or avocado. The caprese bites had cheap store mozzarella bites and that is never good. That is why they get 3 stars.

Found this place on Yelp. Pleasantly surprised! We were greeted outside the entrance by a charming hostess who beckoned us inside, urging us to try dinner in the cozy dining room. She led us through the bar to the back of the restaurant. A narrow but somehow spacious dining room. The lighting and noise level were perfect for conversation. Our server Nike was very pleasant. Knowledgeable about the menu, gave us some great suggestions and was complimentary about each item we ordered. The cocktail/bar menu is not large but has a good selection of tasty offerings. The proseco cocktail was perfect for summer! My husband was also pleased to see Woodford Reserve on the menu. Bonus! For our appetizer we chose the grav lox with pita. Presented on a bed of dressed greens with goat cheese and capers, accompanied by warm pita triangles. Quite tasty. My steak was good, cooked well and flavorful. The garlic mashed potatoes were great as well. The sushi squared my husband ordered was delicious! Perfectly cooked salmon on a bed of ratatouille and a crab cake on top. Overall the meal was great. There was a coupon here on Yelp for a free glass of wine with check in. They honored the coupon without hesitation and the house wine is actually quite good. After coffee (misha's coffee - a local roast, very good and smooth) we stepped out in to the very lively bar scene. We must come back on another weekend for cocktails and snacks at the bar. You can't go wrong here. Check them out.

First of all, service was excellent! Originally we planned to dine next door, but because we were early for dinner (it was 4:45), the place next door refused to seat us. I read great things about Mackie's on yelp so we gave it a shot. Even though their kitchen wasn't officially open for dinner until 5, they happily sat us in the back dining room. Our server was warm, friendly, and knowledgable about the menu and wine list. He had some great recommendations, which we took him up on and thoroughly enjoyed! The pork belly appetizer was probably the best dish of the whole meal! Make sure to ask about daily specials...we went on a Wednesday and got half off one entree. Tuesdays are half price bottles of wine, and they have a burger special on Mondays.

My fiancé and I saw the menu for Restaurant Week for Mackie's Bar & Grill and were immediately sold. We decided to go for a late lunch to enjoy the prix fixe menu. We called the night before and made reservations to dine off of the Restaurant Week menu. When we arrived and were seated, we were told that the restaurant doesn't start serving off the menu until after 5pm (it was 2:45pm, and the first day of Restaurant Week). However, the staff was SO accommodating, especially our server Hasan, they said they would prepare us food off of the Restaurant Week menu and we would just be the first ones to enjoy it. We were ecstatic! The food was to die for! I had the caprese bites, hanger steak and the bread pudding. My fiancé had the house salad, dry aged burger and the grand marnier ice cream. Everything was absolutely delicious! The best part of our dining experience though was our waiter, Hasan. It is truly hard to come by excellent customer service these days and he went above and beyond in everything he did. Mackie's Bar & Grill has rest food and impeccable customer service! I highly recommend it!

Yum! Last minute reservation to eat here based on Yelp reviews. We live in the area but haven't fully explored Old Town to uncover its greatest secrets. Mackie's is really interesting - it's like a 2-in-1 bar and restaurant. The front of the establishment is actually a bar, where they also serve some bar fare. There is some crossover between this menu and the restaurant's menu, but not a whole lot. We had a reservation for dinner so we walked through the bar to the back of the establishment, where you can find the restaurant. It's long and narrow, and feels totally separate from the bar. The bar area is noisy (as one can imagine it would be) whereas the restaurant was a lot more quiet and calm. Night and day! Anyway, our server was totally awesome. I'm sad I can't remember his name but he was super helpful and also bonded with my boyfriend over a shared love of Clash of Clans (yes, the game app). He helped us figure out some good things to order and he helped me pair a wine to my meal, which was great. For starters, we got the caprese bites - tomato, mozzarella, basil, and balsamic on a toothpick. It was fairly simple but refreshing. The boys also wanted the bacon wrapped shrimp so we ordered that, too. It was good, probably not something I'd necessarily order myself. I was eyeing the pork belly appetizer, but we didn't get that so I have something to look forward to next time. For our entrees, my friend C got the burger, I got the lobster ravioli, and my boyfriend got that night's special - the veal. Everything was tasty. I think C's burger came out more medium-well than medium, but this didn't bug him much and he still enjoyed it. The fries were delicious! My lobster ravioli was delicious, soft, and flavorful. LOTS of lobster throughout. I think the star of the night was my boyfriends veal. It was veal wrapped around sausage and it was FANTASTIC. I loved that our server gave us a little back story on the chef's thought process when coming up with the dish - I like hearing things like that. I had wine (thanks again, server buddy, for recommending something red that would still pair well with lobster ravioli). The guys had bourbon drinks. For dessert, we went with key lime pie and bread pudding. The bread pudding was SO soft and creamy - I think it's one of the best bread puddings I've had. I tend to like bread pudding that is more pudding-like in consistency. It was absolutely delicious. All in all, it was a fun, quiet night with good food, good people, and good service. We'll definitely be back, especially now that we know they do brunch! Cus we sure do love ourselves some brunch.

Meh... $14 for a greasy burger with no sides. It was hyped as the dry aged version but the grease disguised anything special in the meat. Had to go and reorder fries to have something with it. Sat at the bar which was a mistake as it was incredibly noisy (no soundproofing) and everyone had to shout over the sound. Plus the crowd didn't feel friendly. Probably won't be back.

I stopped by during my lunch break since they had advertised that they were partaking in the Alexandria Restaurant Week specials. When I walked in, the bar area was empty-- just the owner, bartender, and another guy who was working on some of the restaurant furniture. I wasn't sure about the dining area part of the restaurant (behind another door) but later saw that there were a few groups dining there instead. I sat at the bar and inquired about the specials and was a little disappointed to find that there were no restaurant week lunch specials; however, they had a menu full of $10 options. Soft drinks were free, but you pay for sides like fries or a salad. The bartender was very friendly and explained that the restaurant was new and that they offered specials different days of the week. It wasn't long before every seat at the bar was full. Now to the food-- I ordered the chicken sandwich with a side salad and it came out very nicely presented and a nice portion for lunch. I also ordered a glass of wine and later a margarita which were quickly prepared-- the margarita had fresh lime juice which was refreshing considering most bars use pre-made syrup. Both the bartender (forgot his name) and owner did a great job striking up conversation with the customers, making you feel very welcome-- a plus for a solo diner like myself. In fact, I stayed much longer than I anticipated just chatting with the other customers. It looked like the menu had a variety of options so I'm looking forward to coming back and trying something new, especially in the steakhouse!

Mackie's is a boisterous localish bar and restaurant with a surprisingly adventurous menu, a good beer selection and some of the best bartenders in town. Imagine that...bartenders in old town Alexandria who remembers people's names and show consistent pride in the establishment! Love it. The happy hour menu and drink deals are excellent. I'm a fan of the wings, caprese skewers, and the Korean bbq beef sandwich. The house beer is called Mackie's Red Ale and is brewed up in Wisconsin. It's a good middle of the road ale that's not too heavy or too hoppy. The menu for sit down dining is full of meets and interesting combinations. It does get noisey in the front bar, but chalk that up to an always friendly crowd. The dining room is separated by a door which nicely isolates it from the crowd. The only drawback is that patrons pass through the middle of the dining room to get to the restrooms. Bottom line: this is a fun spot for the after work crowd and to mix and mingle over good food, good drinks overseen by outstanding bartenders.

What a great place! I had my birthday lunch here and I was treated like royalty. Bulgogi hoagie is a must try. I'm pretty sure it would be the ultimate drunk food. Definitely get the kimchi with it. Fantastic wait staff is a plus. Will definitely visit again.

Yum yum yum. Drinks and food are delicious. I had the tuna tartare and beet salad my husband had the pappardelle, my friend had the hanger steak. We all shared the pork and shrimp for appetizers. They were all equally delicious. The only reason for 4 stars is because of the bar -- there were a few VERY drunk people (like wrecked) at 8:30pm and no manager present to assist them.

After our experiences at this place I'm kind of shocked at the consistently high reviews, perhaps it's because we've only been for brunch. First of all, the food is decent to good and the prices are reasonable for the area. The big problem is the extremely poor service, which includes waiting a long time for food, the bill, the completed check, refills, etc., having the servers forget to bring drinks (after asking if we wanted them), placing an entire extra entree on our tab, not being able to separate a check... it really just goes on. There were only four tables in the restaurant while we were there and two servers, so I'm not sure how they were so overwhelmed. In that time, one of the tables had some major problems with their bill and another had three people come up and apologize for the service/food - I'm pretty sure their entire meal was comped. I don't mind below average service - especially if the server is nice and apologetic - but this was a different level of bad entirely as we felt the need to apologize to our friends for bringing them there.

Stopped in again after midnight and the late night food was awesome. Had the wings and the Bulgogi Hoagie; best food around! Also the house drink "Susie" was a hit with my group. The Number 6 on tap hit the spot for me.

Wow!!! What an amazing experience! My best friend and I always go to the same place and we decided to try something new! This place was highly recommended on yelp and so we decided to go! We walked in, the restaurant is super pretty, bar I. The front and dining area in the back. It was nice and dim lit, quiet and romantic! Our waiter came over, Brian, and he was a delight! Very good server! Customer service was great! We ordered the caprise for an appetizer and had the hanger steak and Alfredo pasta for an entree. The food was spectacular! I have problems with steak being cooked right and they did it right! Very happy we went here! I ended up with 2 glasses of wine and a molten lava chocolate cake! Haha it was great! Will definitely be back!

Attentive, professional service (our server was Nikki) and interesting menu selection. The pork belly appetizer is full of flavor and worth trying out. My husband and I each ordered a steak entree (Prime NY Strip and Filet Mignon) and they were both decent but nothing spectacular. My biggest complaint: Everything was overly salted. The side of mushrooms ($6) were so salty I couldn't even eat them. This place is a bit pricey for the quality--our bill was $100 before tip and that was only with one beer--so I'm not sure if we will return. Perhaps they have a good happy hour?

I made reservations for a friday night and then I went to go check it out. When I first walked in I wondered if I was at the correct place; the bar is inside the door and it actually kinda looks like a bar at a club (but less crowded and with friendlier looking people). There's a nice glass door past the bar and that is where the restaurant is located. For appetizers I had the Caprese Bites, which are cherry tomatoes with mozzarella and balsamic vinegar; they were delicious and entertaining for an appetizer. Main meal consisted of a 16oz Rib eye, I ordered mine medium and it was pretty good (maybe just a little bit more cooked than what I'm used for a medium, but it was still really good). The sides that I had were the mashed potatoes and the cramed spinach, they were both good and went well with the rib eye. For dessert I had the chocolate cake (lava), came with some raspberry sauce and some cream; and I have to say that the cake was the bomb. I also had a bite of the key lime pie (it actually doesn't look like a pie- and it was ok, I would choose the chocolate cake any day though). Our server was very helpful and friendly, our drinks were never empty.

They have amazing food and cocktails. I have ate in the bar and dining room both awesome experiences. The Alfredo with steak was amazing as well as the Cajun fries and the dry aged burger. My new favorite place in old town. KAT the bartender was so awesome and good at her job. It was a breath of fresh air.

My wife and I went in for an impromptu date night. We sat at the bar. The bartender was great. He knew his stuff and poured a perfect rum and coke. They have a great beer selection and wine selection too. When we decided to order our food we started off with the Cajun style chicken wings. Oh my goodness! They were perfect. Crispy and perfectly spiced. It was a very tasty appetizer. My wife ordered the Surf Squared entree. The salmon was perfectly cooked, crisp golden brown on the outside and tender on the inside. Oh and the ratatouille was excellent. (wife gave me a few bites). I ordered the NY Strip Steak au Poivre. I love my steak medium rare. They cooked it perfectly. The fries that came with the dish were crispy and perfectly salted. For desert we ordered the bread pudding. It was amazing. Service was great. We will be coming back soon.

We love this spot. Small bar area and incredibly cozy for a modern look. Matt was the bartender and only served us a couple beers, but he very quickly displayed his knowledge of brews with a touch of personality. Dive feel without the dive.

Mackie's became my go-to hangout because of the awesome people that work there. Every time I go there, the staff make it a blast and the food is really good too. Kat got me hooked on the bread pudding and Lucky 7 beer.

I ate at Mackie's once while traveling for work. I was lucky enough to come back to the area for work and stopped there a second time. I ordered the house salad which was really good. I also ordered the NY strip with the peppercorn sauce deliciousness that they put on it.... Yayeah. I substituted the stewed spinach for the fries as well. I am telling you this is definitely up there as one of the best steaks I have ever had. I ate at the bar both times and Phil the bartender is friendly, welcoming, and makes conversation. The bar is a bar and the back room for "the full dining experience" seems nice, albeit is small, it's not cramped feeling. I definitely will eat here again and would definitely recommend to a friend.

My hubby and I love this place. We have been to the bar several times and will most def return- maybe even becoming "regulars." It feels like a small, hometown type of bar with the perfect amount of Old Town class. As my hubby puts it- "It's a dive bar without the dive." The beer selection is not large but very good and covers a range of tastes- my husband and I have very different tastes in beer and are both always satisfied with our options. The food is fantastic- although we have been told several times that the prime rib is where it's at- we WILL be trying it in the future. What really puts this place over the top is the staff. They are amazing. Very friendly, very attentive, very knowledgable and just do a fantastic job of making you feel comfortable. The owner is great too- not above sitting down with you and interacting on a personal level. We always end up spending more time here than planned.

Mackie's has me feeling conflicted when writing this review. I've eaten here twice. First, the good. The cocktails are marvelous. Although they run about $10 a pop (reasonable for the area), they are strong and well-made. I've tasted the Susie, classic martini, and Fall Harvest. I particularly enjoyed the Fall Harvest cocktail with gin, apple brandy, apple cider, and a sweet cinnamon & apple garnish to balance it out. I could drink that year round. Next, the food (for the most part) was delicious. I've tasted a house salad, the bulgogi hoagie, and hangar steak. I enjoyed all of the food I had. The hoagie had that sweet and salty soy taste and juicy sliced up bulgogi. When I had the NY Strip, I licked my NY strip and mashed potato plate clean. The bad: The second time I ate here, I came with my family. My sister and father both like their steaks medium. Yes, this may not be the "optimal" way to order a steak, but nevertheless, that's how they ordered it. My NY strip was a perfect medium-rare just as I asked. Unfortunately, my sister's flank steak and my dad's NY strip were both rare... and I mean rare. My dad hates to complain so I asked the waiter to cook them a little bit longer so that they would be medium. My sister's steak came back cooked a little bit more, but I would say it was still medium-rare. My dad's NY strip came back still pretty rare. He only ate a little less than half, but enjoyed the reduction sauce and the garlic mashed potatoes. The waiter and manager handled the situation well and didn't charge us for the one NY strip. Thus, my experience at Mackie's is inconsistent. I'm a little bitter because I chose to eat at this place with my family for a celebration dinner and my parents don't really eat out often. Also, because they pride themselves on their steak, they need to get the temperatures right... especially the second time. I hope that Mackie's can work out the kinks and establish itself as a respectful restaurant in Alexandria.

I had a fantastic experience at Mackie's! My BF and I have been eying this place up since it open and we finally got a chance to experience dinner this week. I wasn't sure what to expect as far as the ambiance, the bar/lounge is in the front of the restaurant and seems pretty "lively", you have to walk through the bar area to get the dining room in the back (there is a door that separates the areas). The dinning room was very warm and cozy, I absolutely loved the red walls and Earth tones. For appetizers, I had the lobster bisque and my BF had the roasted beets salad. The bisque was creamy with just the right amount of sherry, more lobster meat would have been nice but it was still really good. BF said the beets salad was delicious. We each had the 10oz hanger steak composed with garlic mashed potatoes and a garnish of green beans for our main course. The steak was very tender and cooked to perfection (med rare & med). This was my first time trying a hanger steak and I am definitely a fan! After that we shared a molten chocolate cake, it was moist and served a la mode with vanilla ice cream. The prices here are very reasonable, between the two of us we had five alcoholic beverages and three courses (mentioned above) and our check came to around $112. We have been to other more "high brow" steakhouses and spent twice as much money for the same quality (and amount) of food/drink. The service was great too! No complaints at all, we will definitely be back.

Great lunch deal. Hangar steak was well prepared and their signature sandwich hit the spot. Lobster bisque had more lobster in it than most lobster dinners! Really happy with this place, will be back!

Mackie's is a fantastic spot in Old Alexandria. A lively and welcoming bar (with some great couches for group lounging right in the front window-- great for people watching!) opens up into a cozy dining room. Bold colors and local art adorn the walls, creating an absolutely authentic Alexandria atmosphere. We went for brunch and had mimosas with fresh squeezed orange juice. The Chesapeake eggs featured some great crab cakes and hollandaise sauce. The Korean steak hoagie featuring a spicy sauce and home made kimchi is a to totally unique sandwich I've never seen the likes of before. Next time I go it will be a tough decision whether I try something new or go for the hoagie once again.

I have been back to Mackie's multiple times since my last review, and every time is a great experience. The servers here are excellent and always attentive. I haven't had a single dish that wasn't gastronomical artistry, and I have had the pleasure of sampling most of the menu. Their french onion soup is amazing, and I'm kind of a french onion soup connoisseur. It's delicious, with a twist on the traditional recipe that makes it special enough to justify a trip just to get it.

LOOOVED this restaurant! We were on our way to the restaurant across the street when the friendly hostess came out to greet us and tell us a little about the menu. She was so friendly and nice we decided to forgo the restaurant across the street and give Mackie's a try. We ended up chatting with Sang, the owner, almost the entire time we were there, and he proved my theory that a passionate owner makes for a great business. Now for the food. We order the app trio, a delicious assortment of warm dips (kalamata, spinach artichoke, and I believe lobster) with warm, crusty bread. It was soo good, I asked for another round of the bread. My husband had the dry aged burger, which he could not stop raving about even one hour after we left the restaurant. I had the pappardelle pomodoro-- this dish was prepared with a slightly spicy tomato sauce and wild mushrooms-- I have 3 words for my entree: TO DIE FOR! Overall Mackie's was a wonderful surprise and if we lived in the area we would most definitely become regulars.

15$ for 1 draft beer and 1 vodka tonic.... When I asked for a receipt the bartender told me "Sorry I just tossed it"..... Unacceptable. Can barely breathe in there either. Tons of bars in Old Town save your money and go somewhere else.

Great for lunch in town! Fast, delicious, reasonable. The atmosphere is relaxed so if you have time to linger it is a nice place to do it. The staff is so friendly and helpful. The only thing keeping me from giving it 5 stars is that I have only been there 3 times. I will definitley go back.

After a very long and tiring day, Mackies bar came to the rescue. There's a very chill vibe to this place which makes it a nice get away from the congested old town Alexandria streets. We sat down and was offered a free glass of wine (very nice touch). Our waiter Hassan had sensed I was having a rough day so he brought over some bacon wrapped shrimp at no charge. After the first bite my mood instantly changed. Bacon tends to have that effect lol. I got the filet mignon, he got the dry aged. As soon as I took a few bites I thought "this could use some sauce, but not A1 because that's just tacky". Hassan brought us both a wine reduced sauce that added the perfect touch. We were both happy and agreed it was the best steak both of us has had so far. If you're in old town, go to Mackies!

Oh man, get the filet (unless you are going to ask for it medium-well, then get the chicken). The filet was perfectly cooked (I like mine on the rare side of medium rare and it was PERFECT) and accompanied by garlic mashed potatoes and green beans. My colleagues got the bone-in chicken and lobster ravioli--both to rave reviews! The wine list was good and the service was as good as the food! I made a reservation on open table, I'm not sure we needed one on a Thursday night, but I'm down with using open table anyway...

My husband and I were in the area on vacation and stopped in for dinner, which turned out to be a great decision! Our waiter was very helpful and attentive, he went above and beyond what is expected. I ordered the Ahi tuna special and my husband had the dry aged burger. Both were amazing!! We shared the lava cake for dessert, which was no run-of-the-mill lava cake. It was covered in ganache and came with gourmet ice cream. Absolutely mouthwatering!

This review is twofold, and it's an amazing story! 1. Food: My boyfriend and I rolled into town late and had been dreaming of red wine and steak since the Jersey Turnpike. By the menu, we already knew we wanted to eat at Mackie's Bar and Grill before we even arrived in Alexandria. It's locale is prime and its interior is amazing, even from yelp pictures. We were seated right away with no reservation, even though it was late, packed, and their kitchen was due to close any minute--it was a real boon for us weary travelers, I can tell you. We also were lured in by the "first glass of house wine on us" promotion through Yelp. We ordered these immediately when we were sat and our server retrieved them from the bar very quickly (*I would also like to note that the wine was a very acceptable Grenache, and not some rot gut two-buck chuck bought specifically for the plebeians). We had both settled on a steak a piece and nothing else, but were enticed by our server to try the Pork Belly. I was also craving a salad, so instead of ordering two entrees, we ordered the Beet Salad and Pork Belly to start, followed by the Hanger Steak (there are more expensive, better cuts on the menu, but we're on a budget, so we ordered the more pedestrian version). I wouldn't change a single decision! The Pork Belly...THE.PORK.BELLY! I can't even talk about it, it's that good. Just get it. Don't ask questions, and just get it. It's sweet, savory, herby, creamy, textured and everything in-between. The Beet Salad-completely fresh and earthy. It was the perfect healthy compliment to such a decadent dish as the Pork Belly. Also, it's just beautiful to look at and it made me feel better about myself as a person that I was eating something so good for me and colorful. The Hanger Steak-we ordered it med-rare and I wouldn't recommend eating that dish cooked any other temperature. And let me tell you, the cook was PERFECTION. Perfect crust on the outside, perfect color in the middle, served with garlic mash and wild mushroom bordelaise (the mushrooms could have been a meal by themselves they were delectable). We also ordered an extra side of some sort of horseradish cream sauce. The meal didn't need it, but it was a great added bonus of flavor. We ordered two more glasses of wine to have with our steak and by the end, we were so unbelievably stuffed, that we had to forego dessert out of necessity, but not for lack of want. In Summary, our meal was amazing and all of you should run to Mackie's for all your downtown Alexandria food needs. 2. Service: I believe I mentioned that we were weary travelers? Well, by the end of such a fabulous meal, we were punch drunk, exhausted, and pleasantly tipsy. We stumbled back to our hotel and immediately fell asleep--I believe I also mentioned that it was very late. The next morning, we woke up, packed the car, and headed out of town to South Carolina. It wasn't until we got to North Carolina that I realized I had no idea where my purse was. After many telephone calls and scrambling to backtrack every move we had made, I called the restaurant and left a message. The owner, Sang Lee, called me back within the hour and told me that he did indeed have my purse and then....HE OFFERED TO MAIL IT TO ME! I was so blown away from this kindness, I'm pretty sure I annoyed him with my profuse thanks and repeated offers to pay for his troubles. I received the purse in the mail today after a few texts of correspondences between us regarding addresses, tracking numbers, etc. HOW'S THAT FOR CUSTOMER SERVICE?! It's places like this, with gracious owners like Sang Lee, that will thrive in this world people. I would have written a great review of the restaurant and its food regardless, but now I must INSIST that you eat at MACKIE'S if for no other reason than to support a kind person, who owns a great place, and who did an amazing thing for one of his customers.

This place has all the necessary qualities of a wonderful bar and restaurant. Quality drinks, delicious food, friendly staff- there's hardly anything else to ask for! If you haven't tried this spot, be sure to stop soon before it's too crowded to get in :) Drinks are made with fresh fruit and west coast feel, you can't compare! It's definitely my new favorite place.

I chose Mackie's on a whim for Sunday brunch; it was new and unfortunately Old Town has been previously deficient in delicious brunch options. First of all, I made a reservation 'cause the DMV is crazy when it comes to brunch -- but it was completely unnecessary. When my friend and I arrived at 11:30, we were one of two seated parties in the restaurant. Second, the menu is really geared towards lunch, with a few brunch items sprinkled in. The hostess said they were serving fresh squeezed mimosa's, but it wasn't on the menu and the waiter referenced the two juices offered as being "in the bar gun". Either way, neither of us felt like drinking so I'm not sure what would have happened if we had been bold and ordered them! This sounds like a negative review, but I am just setting the scene. It is decidedly a steakhouse and brunch was added more or less as an afterthought (or again, to quote our waiter "we are really a steakhouse, but we wanted to serve brunch because everyone likes brunch"). BUT, the food is delicious. I got an omelet with mushrooms and spinach with cheese (why I went vegetarian at a steak house I'm not sure...), and my friend got basic scrambled eggs and bacon. Very simple, but all excellently done. The toast was a beautiful hearty wheat bread with an excellent dense crumb, and the "jam" appeared to be a homemade compote of some sort. The mushrooms in my omelet tasted like steakhouse mushrooms (yum), and my friends bacon was high quality and actually tasted like smoke. We both left happy. Now I hope to go back and actually get a chance to review the steak!

Came here for dinner after helping someone move from California and they wanted to come here. Nice location in old town on the main road. Welcomed at the door and brought through the bar to a separate dinning area behind a large door to keep the noise down from the bar. We ordered drinks and starters, drinks arrived promptly. They carry a nice variety of beers made for them, including a double and triple IPA. I actually had the red ale which was great and the others had a scotch ale and a malbec. Our starters came soon after which was a wedge salad, the crab cakes and french onion soup. Although the crab cake were good with a little bite to them, the best was the soup. Very rich with a thick layer of cheeses on top. Entree wise was the salmon, USDA prime rib eye steak and a steak au poivore. My rib eye was perfect, nicely seasoned and tender. Tasted the salmon too, it was tasty with a nice crust on top. Looking for a nice dinner with friends, i would highly recommend here. Can't wait to bring my wife.

What a great new spot in Old Town! The ambiance at Mackie's is very cool and relaxed, chic but like someone said before me, unpretentious. The people who work there are super friendly, professional but laid back. My husband and I were there only for drinks and appetizers and it was an enjoyable experience. The bulgogi hoagie is a must try, and so is their Susie cocktail, deliciously made with muddled blueberries, stoli, and st. Germain, yum!! I can't wait to go back and try more off their menu like the bone-in roasted chicken and the ribeye.

SO GOOD. You can't do much better. Ask for Matt as a server, he is great and hilarious. Great steak, if you like chocolate get the chocolate dessert (forget what it is called, but, just to die for). Parking isn't the best, but, that is just Alexandria. Food, service, ambience-just awesome. GO! =)

We went last night with a party of 8 for dinner. The service and the food were both great! We shared a few tuna tartare apps and the table had steaks all around. The sauce on the hangar steak (can't remember the name) got the highest ratings from the group - do yourself a favor and ask for a few extra mushrooms. Our watiress was friendly, able to answer all of our questions, and kept all of our orders straight despite the multple special requests from most of us. Nice decor, relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant is separated from the bar with a frosted glass door that very effectively separates the atmosphere of the bar from the restaurant. The bar seemed like a lively and friendly place to hang out for a few more drinks - if it weren't a Monday! Would definitely come back.

had the Papperdelle with chicken and it was excellent. Great flavors. Wife had the lobster ravioli and it was also excellent. Again, great combination of flavors and seasonings. Also had the Caprese Bites and Pork Belly for appetizers. Caprese Bites were very good, but simple. Pork Belly was fantastic. A little tough, but the combination of the tapenade and apples and pork belly was amazing. Best part was our server, Matt. So cool and fun and helpful.

Food was mediocre, like home cooked food. I ordered the chicken, which was burnt on the outside. The salad was okay, and bread pudding was the most disgusting bread pudding I have ever tasted. It was jelly like and under-cooked, we sent it back only to try the molten chocolate lava cake, which had a super dry texture, but the center was delicious. That part the chef did get right. The service was great, but the 2 stars really comes for food I literally could have made at home, at a quarter of the price. Plus the entrance is super odd, you walk into the bar, then end up walking to the back of the bar towards the restaurant, which has horrible, tacky decor and crown molding. Definitely not for a fancy date-night out.

I can forgive the fact that the restaurant was out of Pork belly. I can. It was raved about by other reviewers , so not surprising they might have run out. But to have run out of 'Alfredo and Bernaise-yesterday" is almost unbelievable. Don't they have a kitchen, a chef? I could make the freakin Alfredo! Unacceptably disappointing Then the actual food we did get: Lobster ravioli was drenched in a thick bland sauce. The butcher responsible for the "butcher's cut" hanger steak was clearly a novice. It was notably tough for the cut. Vegetables received the best treatment by the kitchen with Nice salads and well cooked veggie sides.

Went for a leisurely lunch on a rainy Friday. We had the place to ourselves most of our meal. Our server Nicki was super friendly and helpful-a delight! We split a bottle of wine, a beet salad, lobster ravioli, the salmon, and the chocolate cake. The beet salad was good but not special, just a beet salad. The ravioli was delicious with large pieces of lobster in a roux but heavy for lunch. The salmon was perfectly cooked- our favorite dish and highly recommended. The cake was very good, not too sweet with a more bittersweet chocolate taste. It went perfect with the Shiraz! This restaurant is a gem and great addition to King street. I would go back!

OK I am breaking my rule (again) about not reviewing restaurants until I go at least 2-3 times. But I'm breaking it for a good reason: I am really truly hoping they'll improve! What I like: The service is great. The staff is very friendly (except for the owner Mr. Lee - more later on that). The garlic mash potatoes were awesome. The back area of the restaurant was quiet and bright. What I did not like: My rib eye could have been a very good 12 oz cut but instead was a very bad 16 oz cut complete with about 1/3rd fat and gristle. I understand rib eye is a fatty cut - and I want a well marbled piece of meat. However, I do not want a good third of it to be uneatable because someone did not trim it. Perhaps they need to a) purchase a better quality cut that doesn't need trimming or b) keep buying the cheap cut but trim off the excess fat and sell it as a 12 oz instead. I felt like I got the "Shoppers Food" special and not the "Whole Foods" quality I was expecting based on their advertisements and web site. Now to the gentlemen who was lingering by the swinging door (who I assume was Mr. Sang Lee the owner): First, if you are going to act as the "front of house" manager don't keep getting in the way of your staff - stand elsewhere. I saw your staff nearly kill themselves when coming in and out of the swinging door into the kitchen trying to avoid running you over. Often they had piles of dishes. How about you give them a hand instead? Speaking of which stop ordering your staff around in front of the customers. If a guest needs a glass of water, get it yourself please! I saw one young man who was very busy delivering food stopped mid trip so you could point out someone needing water and you told him to get it immediately. He was busy - YOU WERE NOT! You act like a nervous husband awaiting the birth of his first born. I get it - you got a lot invested. However you are creeping out your customers by lingering over them (not too mention annoying your staff). Go home and let the folks you pay do their jobs. Either that or learn how to be a good front of house manager and WORK. That means you check on customers, ask how they are doing, ask how their food is, if they need something and no one else is available - you get it. Trust me, your business would do better if you simply stayed home. Oh, one more thing - lose the disgusting curtain between the restaurant area and the kitchen. That keeps getting in folks food when servers are coming thru with plates. YUCK! Or at least (since you are standing there anyway) hold the curtain out of their way. So in short, better quality (or trim the cheap stuff to look like it's the better stuff), keep the owner locked up in a room away from staff and customers (or train him to be a decent front of house manager), rip the drape and toss it, and I'll be back to see if there is improvement and if so I will delete or update this review!

Great spot off King street, try the pork belly appetizer. Chill vibe, great ambiance. Don't be fooled by the small door and window, this place extends all the way back into a private dining room. Outside bar houses great top shelf liquor. Enough space at bar to watch a game or take a date into the dining room.

This is my first yelp review. We had such a great experience here that I had to write about it. We stopped in on a Sunday afternoon for a light meal. It was hot & crowded outside, but this place was just what we needed. It was quiet & cool with comfy seating. Our waiter, Hasan, was awesome - charming, efficient and friendly. He kept our waters refilled with a smile. My 8-year old ordered the lobster bisque and it was excellent. My mom and 11-year old and I got the crab cake plate to split. We loved it so much we ordered 2 more plates: 6 crab cakes in all. The cakes were crispy & brown on the outside & moist inside, seasoned well, and served on a bed of yummy guacamole. They also have a nice salad under them with a yummy, tomato-y house made dressing. I checked in on yelp &!got a glass of house wine- wooo! Totally recommend this little gem.

Have been here twice to satisfy a steak craving, and overall had good experiences. There is very limited seating but haven't had an issue reserving or getting a table so far. The steaks were cooked great and the service was good.

Fantastic service and food! The steaks were perfectly prepared and were to die for. Restaurant owner came out to greet us since my girlfriend is Korean (he is as well). I'd recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice drink and good steak!

A friend had just arrived from out of town and we wanted to take him to dinner at a local place rather than the typical chain establishments and we were very pleasantly surprised to find that Mackie's fit our needs perfectly! We arrived on a rainy and cold weeknight expecting to fight the typical crowds but that night was perfect. We were seated right away with only one other couple in the dining area so we had ample room to spread out and get comfortable. We ordered the shrimp cocktail and a trio of spreads as appetizers. They were a perfect start to the evening, curbing any hunger pains we had before arriving to Mackie's. We each ordered steaks, two of us had the rib eye while the other had the hangar steak. Everything was delish! The steaks were tender and juicy and came to the table fresh off the grill. It was cooked perfectly and the sides that accompanied the steaks were just right. The portion sizes were filling considering we had two hungry men at the table. We shared two desserts, the cheesecake and chocolate molten cake. Both added a nice finishing touch to our meals, not too sweet but sweet enough to leave our tummies content! We were pleasantly surprised to find on Wednesdays, Mackie's has a buy one, get second entree half off special. This sealed the deal for a return visit when our bill was a little over $100 for the three of us, complete with drinks, appetizers, a fantastic steak dinner, and desserts! Mackie's turned out to be a hidden gem for us in Old Town Alexandria!

Excellent food and service! I would definitely recommend it to family and friends, but would need to warn them of its weak points. The decor and ambiance are mediocre and its a very noisy dining room.

Satisfactory food, poor service. Our server, Murphy, took the liberty of charging for additional items. I ordered the french onion soup and the basic lunch burger (it was lunch time), no fries or side salad. Without asking me, he decided I wanted the premium aged burger with mushrooms, onions and side of fries. The cost was not the issue ($8 vs $16), but it felt like he was trying to sneak in extra fees to build his check average. When I inquired about it, he called me "dear". This was not an affectionate "dear," but rather quite patronizing. I will definitely not be returning.

Friday night date night and I was stuck on King Street thinking where I'd like to catch a decent meal. Stopped by The Majestic at 6 without a reservation and was told they were booked solid and couldn't seat us until 9pm (the place was empty at that point). So we ordered a couple of their fine cocktails and wandered back out into the evening. I was looking for something simple, no fancy small plates of precious whatever, but I didn't want to end up in a noisy burger bar. The reviews on Flatiron Steak House were middling at best. Yelp said Mackey's was across the street so, we walked in to a rapidly crowding bar and an empty back dining area. Seated in the corner across from the kitchen, we ordered a couple ciders and ran down the menu: typical steakhouse fare; an assortment of cuts of beef, along with salads, soups, and some interesting apps. We opted for a tuna carpaccio and pork belly with avocado and apples. The raw tuna was diced on top of a bed of diced avocado with some nice bitter arugula. Tasty. The pork belly was braised and diced into a "comb" shape, served on a puree of parsley and avocado, again with arugula with a citrus dressing, and some tart apple slices. Really nice combination of flavors and textures, and a pretty hearty portion as well. My experience has been to steer clear of the extra lean strip steaks and filets in favor of the fattier hanger steaks and ribeyes, medium rare. The hanger came with a nice rich mushroom sauce, and the ribeye had a good marbling and stayed moist and tender. And kudos to the cook who knows what "medium rare" actually means. That alone should merit a visit to Mackeys (check the reviews of the other steak joints in Old Town). Sides were simple grilled vegetables and sauteed spinach. A little on the salty side, but nothing a glass of water couldn't cure. Total bill with tip came in under $120 which, for me, is a good deal for food of this quality cooked by someone who knows what the heck they're doing. If you're looking for an unpretentious meat & potatoes experience in a comfy neighborhood watering hole atmosphere, you could do a lot worse than Mackeys. If you don't believe me, go to Joe Theismans.

Good food, great service, nice ambiance. We got together with my friends last week here, had a drink at the bar first and was impressed by the liveliness of bar area! Then was escorted to our table of the back which was really quiet and intimate. The food was served on time.

Went once for a work dinner and the crab cake and salmon were terrific. The staff was nice and friendly and was always checking to make sure everything was fine. But I'm mainly writing this review for the pork sandwich I just had. ABSOLUTELY DEVINE. Probably the best pulled pork sandwich I've had. Wasn't too messy and the coleslaw went really good with it. It's a must try if you ever go during the lunch hours!

Beautiful layout, superb service, excellent steaks - we tried two different ones. Cold, cold beer. Did I mention superb service (ask for Matt)? Absolutely love the lighting scheme - off the wall and out of your face while you're eating. Separation of bar and dining area is brilliant and much appreciated. We will return.

This place just opened recently and it looks nice on the outside so my bf and I went in from the cold and were greeted by two friendly hosts. We went to the back dining room for dinner on Friday night. It was the night after Thanksgiving so not very crowded, at all. The decor is clean and warm. I love the table tops which seemed to be hand made of mixed color hardwood. Our server, Brian, was extremely congenial and informative of the menu. We ordered hangar steak and filet mignon. Both were ideally presented and delicious. The trio of spreads as an appetizer was a good choice but I didn't finish my dinner because of it! I saw that one of the bartenders is Catherine! (Cat). She is one of the nicest and most adorable people in the service world of Old Town. Hold on to that one! She is a living doll! This is a simple steak house, as it should be, simple is great! I will come back for drinks and to lounge in the front room and for dinner many more times to come, I am certain. Good for date night, girls night out, groups, families! I think anyone would be comfortable here.

Very very very average food. Steaks were nothing fantastic. Sides were small (6$ for about 8 pieces of asparagus). For such a small menu I thought the steaks would be amazing. They were just ok. (I got the filet and my husband got the strip) Staff was very friendly. Bar looks nice.

The only reason this place got a single star was because the steak was very good. We had a 6:45 reservation, we were seated quickly. From there on the service was horrible. 25 minutes it took to get any service. At no time were we asked for drinks, our bottle of wine was never brought to us and our waiter not once asked us if our food was done or anything to that extent. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE! The hostess was the only person with any class in this establishment. The waiters were wearing jeans with dirty tennis shoes. Highly unprofessional for a steakhouse.

Great quality food! Had the dry aged burger which was better than a steak! The lobster bisque was also delicious. The beet salad was surprisingly great also. Went home with half the burger because it was sooo filling.

Dinner was great -- service staff was excellent. Only complaint is that there seems to be a group of "regulars" that hang out in the bar section.. well, that group start yelling and swearing at the top of there lungs. One guy slapped a drink out of the other guys hands which caused glass and liquor to get all over my fiancee and I. There were 3 fights in the bar section alone before we could even get out of the front door.

My husband and I came here for an early valentines steak dinner. Unfortunately, our steaks were very undercooked and asked for them to cook it a little longer. It took another 15-20 mins for them to cook them more which felt like forever since we had already waited for our food. Steaks were just ok. On the bright side, we received a dessert on the house!

The food is AMAZING!! I will be revisiting to slowly try the whole menu. I ordered tuna tartar to share with my boyfriend as an appetizer and ended up eating the entire thing. So flavorful. For my entrée, I had the NY Strip which was cooked to perfection. If you are looking for something from the bar you have to try the Susie. It is so delicious. A great place to go if you want to have a meal with good friends in a cozy environment. I went with 3 other people and all of our plates went back to the kitchen completely empty. We loved everything. Really good customer service as well. There is also a bar in the front of house that has 5 TVs. Great place to watch the game and grab some drinks. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Our server, Brian, was fantastic. He had a wonderful sense of humor and made excellent recommendations of the tuna tartar (excellent lightly marinated tuna stacked on wasabi avacado, deeeelish!) and wine choices. My husband raved about the Carbonara Pappardelle (special), that he ordered, and my ribeye was very good if only a little too salty. I was impressed by the garlic mash, not too garlicky like some restaurants serve. We will definitely be back!

Went for the happy hour, stayed for the awesome bartenders. Great people, great bar! The caprese bites and trio dip were delicious apps with the white wine. The steaks looked amazing on the plates they were bringing out...I'll have to go back to try entrees soon.

The whole experience was personable and enjoyable. Our server was knowledgable with the wine list and steak cuts. He made sure everything was cooked to perfection. Great spot. Came here to get something quick to eat. Even though we didn't have a reservation they offered us bar seats. Finally was able to have an Angry Orchard and it was great!!! I had the sliders which were amazing and mom had the burger and fries which the meat was also prime. Great service amazing bartender! Def will be coming back to actually dine in for the restaurant part!!

We visited Mackie's for restaurant week, and could not have been more pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. I started with the pork belly, which was to die for and then had the hangar steak. Definitely not something I would normally order on off the menu, but it was truly excellent! Served with mushroom bordellaise and garlic mashed potatoes, it was an amazing meal. We rounded it out with the caramel bread pudding and chocolate molten cake.... both of which were practically an out of body experience. Our waiter, Matt, was absolutely amazing; attentive, informative and fun. The room is small and cozy, tucked behind an unassuming door separating the bar area. I can't recommend Mackie's enough!!!

Went to Mackie's with my wife and another couple for dinner and had a pleasant experience. It's located right next to The Majestic (one of my old town favorites) and was exited to see how packed the place was. Before walking through the front door, we had to weasel our way though a half dozen gentlemen smoking out on the sidewalk (which is narrow), but it was a Friday night at a bar so that is expected. First impressions when I walked in were good. The attentive hostess greeted us despite the very loud atmosphere (again, Friday night at a bar so I wasn't expecting anything less) and we took a seat at the bar. Trey was our bartender and was fantastic. Very friendly guy who was attentive in a very busy bar, pretty impressive. I ordered a beer and my wife had a brown derby, so no complaints there. Aesthetically, the bar is very clean and the space is cool and casual with exposed brick walls and warm wood stools. All in all, great bar experience and a 4 out of 5 in my book. Dinner was a bit of a different experience for me. Once we were seated and had menus in hand, I noticed it looked very different from the menu on the website. The website's menu included a crispy pork belly appetizer, among a handful of other dishes, I was jazzed about, so needless to say I was a tiny bit disappointed. I understand the dining room has only been open for a week, so I let it go. We ordered the trio of dips (artichoke, crab, tapenade) and the tuna tar-tar. Both were good. My buddy had order the lobster bisque, but couldn't eat it because he wasn't given a spoon (it took about 3 minutes to get one). After working is restaurants half my life, it's the little things that tend to get to me, but I digress. The soup was hot and had a nice texture and very bold spices. Next up was our entree'. Mackie's, being a steak house, had a nice selection of steak, including hanger! I was so happy to see hanger steak, as it is not a common cut of beef. Everyone at the table ordered steak and everyone ordered it medium-rare (we are steak people). Once our food arrived, I got a bit confused. My hanger steak was pre-cut and none of us were given steak knives until about 5 minutes later (again, the little things). My steak was cooked perfectly, but my wife and my friends steaks were still blue. I wanted to say something to the waiter, but they insisted I don't so that's on them. My steak was ok. It was seasoned nicely and was fresh, but I wouldn't say it's memorable. Our steak was accompanied by garlic mash and veggies, both of which were not seasoned very well and kind of flat. Overall dinner experience is 2 out of 5. That being said, it's a brand new restaurant trying to make a name for themselves in a town full of big hitters. I WILL go back in a few months because I believe in this place and would love to see it thrive. Mackie's, you are 90% there. I can't wait to see what 100% looks like.

Service and food are excellent. The bulgogi hoagie with a side salad is the perfect lunch. The bar area is small, but comfortable. If you're not into bars, there is a back dining room that is spacious and intimate. Also, the bathroom is clean.

I'm not sure where to start. I was in town visiting a friend a few days ago and we decided to stop in and try this place out. Being from the Midwest, I thought I would enjoy a steak. I most certainly did not enjoy it. I'm not sure if it's just because it wasn't a Midwest steak or what but it wasn't even edible. My server, Trey, was amazing though. When I brought it to his attention he was very apologetic and assured me he would speak with his manager and make this right. I saw him approach the manager, Sang Lee. I've never seen a manager speak so rudely and treat an employee the way Trey was treated. Then, when the manager approached our table, he reeked of alcohol! It was terrible! Now I know why he was speaking to the employees that way. He offered me a new steak but at that point I was so disgusted that a place would let someone like that run a place that I wasn't interested. Trey is the only reason I'm giving two stars. Everything else, terrible. Wouldn't send my worst enemy here!

Friendly staff and decently priced beer, but the best part was the wings. I got the jerk flavored and they were the best wings I've ever had. The tuna tartare was also really delicious. A nice spot with good atmosphere. They charged us a 'late night' fee for drinking beer, which i didn't really understand because it was like 10:30.

Mackey's was terrific. Food was excellent.. The hostesses were very professional and did their jobs with grace. We spoke with the owner while waiting for our table, he was easy to talk to and knowledgable with the area. The bartenders had an excellent grasp of their clientele and knew how to make a nice drink. We had to wait a bit for our reservation, tables were not getting up, that can happen. When we were seated it took a while to get a drink..the waiter was overwhelmed by a large table with separate checks. The only tip would be, the manager should have picked up his slack for those 15 minutes. He just kept walking up and down the room but really had no concept of where he was needed or how to really assist the staff. We had a wonderful busser, who I hear is also a server. Our waiter was professional but our busser went above and beyond! The only reason for the 4 instead of 5 stars is they need to settle in more. Food took an exceptionally long time. Pork belly was very good as was the bread pudding. Overall worth a visit. But definitely make a reservation!

Was walking by yesterday and noticed they had something called a Bulgogi Hoagie. Well, that cannot be ignored, so we went in and ordered one to go. The staff was friendly and chatty, would have stayed for a beer if we could have. The sandwich was disappointing, however. The bread was fresh and yummy, but the meat was way too salty. It had some nice spice but didn't have that little hint of sweetness Bulgogi usually has. Can't tell if it was there but overpowered by the salt or just not there. A little tweak to the marinade and this would be an amazing sandwich.

The best damn food I have ever had. Made a reservation for dinner on valentines day. I got the dry aged rib eye medium rare cooked to perfection. My girl got the salmon and it was delicious. I came in during restaurant week and I had an amazing experience. I want to start with the owner, he greeted us at the door and was more than generous. Next I had the pork belly for appetizer and surf square and it is to die for (figuratively). The servers were very pleasant and I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a place in Old Town.

This place has potential but it also has an identity crisis; is it a sports pub or a steakhouse restaurant? Firstly, you have to walk through the bar to enter a separate narrow dining room. The clientele at the bar when we visited were a raucous sports bar crowd (they also spill through the dining area to use the rest rooms); it was kind of off-putting for our group of five who thought we were going someplace reasonably quiet for dinner. The dining room was not crowded but we were seated directly opposite the kitchen entryway which is not a scenic view. The furnishings are basic and almost diner like. Our waiter was very, very, very friendly and accommodating. The bar was slow in getting our drinks, however. Our group had salads (just ok) and the surf2 (salmon & crab cakes)-and they said the seafood was very good, as was an order of lobster ravioli (but it was really drowned in sauce). The hanger steak was very good, too, and a generous portion; it was ordered medium rare and cooked correctly but the accompanying mashed potatoes were lukewarm and the corn came straight from a can. I'd try it again sometime (maybe lunch) but it is not really a "steak house" in my book. They need to decide whether they want to be a pub (maybe with a cheaper, simpler menu) or a serious restaurant/steakhouse.

Stopped by Mackie's for dinner. The house salad was nothing special. The filet was one of the best steaks I've ever had. Truly amazing! The chocolate cake was delicious. I'm about ready to eat the plate! I understand they'll soon be serving dry-aged steak. Can't wait to give it a try, after I work through their existing extensive menu of cuts.

We had a newbie waiter....first night, first table ever. We thought there was a hidden camera somewhere. He was sweet but didn't know anything. He was all alone with no shadow? When our food came it was all Messed up! shocker! When his trainer came....an arrogant Wiesel with of course the cool guy goatee. He was a D___k! The food was marginal go elsewhere!!!! Mackie's was the best steak and chicken I've had in a very long time. Cooked to perfection. The desserts, Tiramisu and NY cheesecake were excellent. The service was accommodating and fun. One of the best restaurants in Old Town Alexandria! -Vickie and Rusty, Detroit

This was our first time in the Alexandria Area and Mackies was such a great choice. Matt our server was awesome, always checked in on us and our drinks were never empty. I got the Surf Squared perfectly cooked salmon with a lump flavorful grab cake on top with crisp green beans and house made chips on the side. Besides the Suzie Specialty martini being somewhat tart everything else was phenomenal. The setting is perfect for an intimate date night. No complaints!

We went on Thursday night and had a great experience. We had a reservation for 8 pm, but we were able to be seated at 7:45 when we arrived. The place is small, maybe 20 tables max, and the dining room is separated from the bar (at the front that you have to walk through to get to the dining room), I think you can eat at the bar, so maybe 5 more tables plus the bar, so overall not big. While you had to go through the bar there was no real noise from the bar, so you definitely felt like you were in a nice cozy dining room. The decor is nice and cozy, appropriate lighting. The service was quick an attentive and when we found out later we had someone training (and our real waiter arrived) we had no idea the first person did great! We had one person in the group who is vegetarian and there were still plenty of options for her even though it is a place for steaks. Two of us had the filet (medium) and they were excellent, I asked for the sauce (peppercorn) from the strip and they happily added it and it was great! The garlic potatoes were fine (nothing special) and the carrots were really good. I personally wouldn't order $6 sides and just go with what comes with it. Someone else had crab cakes and they looked very good, heavy on crab and less on breaking. The wedge salad was good, odd that they put a strip of bacon vs crumbles but the flavor was good. The prices were very reasonable, especially for Old Town and the quality. After dinner we went up to the bar and had a great time. I definitely get the sense there are "regulars" including the owner who we met. Everyone was very friendly and they actually gave us a bottle of wine (we were in town for a funeral) for free. The need thinner wine glasses, they were the thick use at home for table wine thickness, takes away from drinking the wine (told the owner this ). I am pretty sure they are a new place (we came based on yelp reviews and yelpers didn't disappoint), but I think they are a very good addition to the area. Casual and not stuffy with good food and good prices, what more could you want?

Needs some work. Tuna tartare was excellent. Asked for hangar with sauce on side rare plus. Came with sauce and medium well. Sent it back. It came back well done. My dining partner had filet which was good. The New York ordered by another in party was tough.

Great restaurant! The service was exceptional, thanks Nikki and Hassan. Loved the ambience. I had the hangar steak and the Susie cocktail, I was very pleased. Stumbled across a gem.......... Walking through Old Town Alexandria with my beau on a Saturday night we just popped into Mackie's for ONE drink and to catch some of the UVA basketball game against Louisville. The service was excellent. We found a spot near the bar. Shortly after we sat someone was there and offered to take our coats for us. Then shortly after she left with our coats a gentleman was there to take our drink orders. He was very knowledgable and patient and answered all our "what do you have" questions. We finally decided on draft beers. Kat returned with our beers and some food menus. She gave us her personal recommendations and what is favored by other patrons. We decided on the tuna tartar......IT WAS DELIGHTFUL!!!!!! At no point during our ONE beer and snack did we ever have to find someone if we needed anything. We were truly enjoying the atmosphere, the basketball game, our drink and snack that we decided on another round and the Bulgogi Hoagie (A MUST TRY NO EXCUSES IT WAS AMAZING). We ended up staying the entire length of the UVA basketball game and only because of the great service we received from everyone but especially Kat. So our ONE drink turned into a few drinks and GREAT food at Mackie's. Will definitely be coming back next time we are in the area and really loved that the bar is completely seperated from the restaurant.

I like Mackie's and have been 4-5 times. The tuna tar tar is a favorite. I have had some really good meals here and some just so-so. The Bulgogi hoagie is great. I like to sit at the bar rather than cramped dining room. For the area the prices are reasonable. I will tell you that I have asked several times for just the bulgogi meat instead of the hoagie option and they once sent out a skimmmmppppyyyy portion and one time said no. Really? Simple request two weird answers. I have a client right down the street. Why not serve a big bowl of bulgogi and I'll be there everytime

Just sort of dropped in and ate at the bar. The bartenders are attentive and very friendly. I had a hamburger with provolone and a side of fries. I ordered my hamburger medium and it was perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend this bar. Next time we plan on going to the restaurant.

We had reservations for four on a Friday night and were seated promptly. The entire staff was very friendly and attentive. Two of us ordered fish dishes and the other two ordered steaks. While I am mostly a fish eater I regretted not ordering steak when the dinners were delivered as they looked especially tasty. We also had crab cake and tuna tartare appetizers which were good. Could have done without the potato chips that came with the tuna tartare and the salmon entree but I'm not much of a chip person, particularly in a nicer restaurant. The food was served quickly so no long wait. Mackie's bar area and dining area are rather small so it's a cozy, friendly atmosphere. Matt is an excellent server and helpful with suggestions and descriptions. Overall we enjoyed our evening and would return.

Had lunch there last week and found the experience to be great. Bar service was friendly and attentive. Had the burger and a side salad. Salad's with the house dressing are usually a good barometer of how good the place is. The vinagrette was perfectly balanced and the greens were dressed, not drowning! The burger was very good and cooked to a perfect medium rare. Based on a lunch experience like this, I look forward to eating dinner there and having a steak.

Great addition to Old Town. Casual yet with it. Ask for the bartender KAT. She's great. I told her what I liked in wine and I didn't even have to ask for a taste. She was there with her suggestion which was great. Food is delicious! Don't miss the French fries! They are crispy and delicious. Monday nights are half price bottles of wine. Hard to believe this place has been open for such a short time.

Visited on a Thursday night - outstanding food, beer, and service. Had the tuna and pork belly appetizers, which were great. Would absolutely recommend the dry-aged ribeye - it was really one of the best dry-aged steaks I have had in quite some time. Will be back!

I am a new mother and of course don't get the chance to go out very often but was able to have dinner with my husband and his parents last night. And did so even without a sitter! My husband had gone to Mackies last week with a colleague after a late meeting to grab drinks and a bite to eat since he missed dinner at home. He has raved about the tuna tartar and burgers since and has been wanting to try their steaks. He must have really enjoyed the food because after being seated tonight he told me about his experience at the bar which after the fact I'm surprised that he suggested Mackies for dinner. Both of us served in college so we are pretty understanding and easy to please when it comes to customer service in the restaurant industry. He said that his bartender that night had way too much of an ego, never smiled and seemed like he didn't want to be there. Not good considering bartenders are supposed to be very sociable people. My husband pointed him out as we were leaving, oddly I could see exactly what he meant just by walking through the bar. he had kind of scowl and was leaning against the wall with his tattooed arms crossed watching the other bartender make drinks. As for our dining experience tonight: The hostess was welcoming, sweet, bubbly and very accommodating to us with having the baby carrier. The table we were seated at was perfect for us, back in a corner. there was space right next to us on the comfy booth to put the carrier on so it wasn't awkward. The dining area was very quaint and quiet surprisingly with how packed and noisy the bar area was. You have to weasel your way through it to get to the main dining area. We were promptly greeted by our server, who was very attentive throughout our whole dining experience. She was very professional and personable, I think her name was Bessa. My husband and I started with a glass of champagne which was perfect and very bubbly. We then ordered a bottle of wine and while Bessa was opening and decanting it for us she described the pork chop special and a few appetizers from the menu. One was the tuna tartar that my husband loves and another was some kind of dip. We were intrigued but all decided to have soup since it was so cold out. The lobster bisque was amazing, although a tad too salty, it wasn't too heavy, very fresh and you can definitely taste the lobster. After reading a previous review I was surprised to read that they didn't get utensils or good service. I don't know if they have changed how they set the tables since or if our server was that quick/swift because we never had to think of needing a knife or spoon. For our entrees we had filets and my mother in law had the pork special. The steaks were very good, just a touch over cooked but tender and seasoned perfectly. Bessa also recommended additional sides for us that went very well, sautéed mushrooms and some sort of a cheddar potato cake. The pork chop was a disappointment, she described it as medium and it came out very well done and was extremely dry. They need to work on the cooking temperatures on proteins, especially since they are a steak house. All of our meals were about one temperature above what we ordered. As I said before my husband and I have served so we are understanding and don't usually make a fuss. The service made up for the slightly over cooked steaks. We didn't mention it to Bessa until the end to which she was very apologetic and offered a dessert on the house. I'm sure she mentioned this to the chef because a manager briefly stopped to apologize as well and even brought us after dinner drinks to make up for it. Mackies is a new restaurant and the kitchen needs a little work but the service we received tonight was that of a really high end restaurant. We will be back soon, request the same server and have her make sure to remind the kitchen to keep an eye on our steaks.
