Pretty good not great wish there was a 3.5 stars. The egg roll was fresh made with cabbage and the right type of thick wrapper and deep fried best thing I had. The cream cheese wontons were disgusting it was not cream cheese it was like really sweet butter. Gross. Everything else was typical Chinese food. The staff was really nice too.

Worst lunch I have had in recent memory. I can not believe they call this Chinese food... Have they ever eaten in China? Soup tastes like water, egg rolls were flavorless mush, and my entree wasn't worth eating after one bite to taste how bad it was. There are 2 Thai places nearby with food that has flavor. Avoid this place!

Date and time: Friday, lunch hour Party: two Cheap lunch special includes: entree, steamed or fried rice, rangoon cream cheese, and choice of soup for $5.99. The dinner menu items look good, I'll be back. I ordered the eggplant and tofu in garlic sauce with hot and sour soup and steamed rice. The soup was seasoned well and nicely balanced. The tofu was fried with a nice crispy outside and creamy inside, and the eggplant held it's shape and didn't collapse. The rice was snow white and tasty. My dining companion ordered the mo-go-gai-pan, fried rice and egg flower soup. The nice combination of mushrooms, carrots, squash, zucchini, broccoli accompanied the chicken. The fried rice was nicely seasoned and egg flower soup not gluey or under seasoned. Hopefully, they add more wait staff for dinner. The one person did an admirable job serving all six tables.

I ordered takeout which isn't always the best in a resturants fare. Start off with egg roles that are deep fried way to long. I realize that it is the quickest way to cook food but please pay more attention. I ordered for five, 2 orange chicken, 1 sesime chicken and 1 sweet and sour chicken. One person liked the orange and 1 did not. The one who didn't like it thought it had a bitter taste. The sesime chicken had a sour smell, I couldn't eat 1 serving of what could be enough for two. The sweet & sour chicken pleased the kids who ate all of it. Steamed rice was plentiful the ham fried rice good flavor but left in heat way to long and very dry. Cost was average for chinese food in the Salt Lake Valley. After living around the US I have decided that this area doesnt' have a descent chinese resturant either a local or national chain.

Went here for lunch on my aunt's birthday last week. My aunt and grandpa liked their hot and sour soup and egg drop soup. I ordered the lunch special. I got their sesame chicken and it was good but they barely give you any. Also they barely give you any rice. Instead of putting it separate from the chicken the mixed them onto the same plate which I disapproved of since they drowned the rice with the sauce from the chicken. My aunt and grandpa order chicken chow mein and shrimp chow mein. It was not chow mein! It was a bunch of inch long, soft thick noodles buried in soup like veggies. Probably won't come here again.

I enjoy eating at red lantern. I haven't had a negative experience. Usually I get the chicken lo mein. I am kind of surprised to see so many bad reviews.

I went on 12/30/2014 and I really liked it! My dad and I ordered the string bean beef (or something like that). And the lemon chicken. The lemon chicken was delicious and the vegetables and beef from the string bean beef were all high quality. It was also easy communicating with the staff. Only a positive experience today, 5 stars. :).

Dirty, has incredibly slow service, and the food is not good. My friend likes this place for some reason so I've been multiple times. I've tried a different dish each time and it's always bad. I've never taken leftovers home, even the ham fried rice isn't good, how do you ruin ham fried rice?

I've eaten here in the past and it didn't used to be bad. This was the worst Chinese food I've ever had. Everything how did taste as if it was left open and unwrapped in a dirty fridge. When I asked to order something else they told me not to order anything with batter. So he knew exactly what I was talking about. The chicken was bad the wontons were bad they tasted dirty and unfresh. When we got home and tasted the rest we throughout all the food it it tasted unclean. I'm not the type of person that usually complains but I will never eat there again.

Ok the food is typical American Chinese food but, the portions are good and the msg added to the food delivers great flavor! The customer service is not awesome but not horrible. It's about middle of the road. My wife and I was not disappointed in the food. It's not the best place in town but also you could do much worse. I say it's average but worth another trip to explore more of the menu. Cheers!

I absolutely love this place. My family and i have loved this place since we found out about it. My girlfriend and i go all the time. We get the same server and he does a great job and i love that i actually see an asian server and cook. My favorite item there would have to be the egg rolls with their incredible plum sauce! They have great pan fried noodles, the best i've ever had although i do like them more to go. Also the lemon chicken is delicious, and the fried rice is buy one get one free. I've never left unsatisfied with my meal! Highly recommend the egg rolls with plum sauce to anyone! If you do go in with a mind set of this being authentic Chinese food, then don't be offended when its not. I will say it is americanized but not like Panda Express. So if you don't mind that then you should love this restaurant.

I stopped here for lunch - server was very pleasant and helpful. Hot and sour soup was okay - a bit thick and salty, but good flavor. Vegi lo mein was basically flavorless. Egg roll was too oily. I won't be back.

It is a typical greasy American Chinese togo food for us. My boyfriend had try the place in the past and he did not like it a lot. Till I just randomly told him order the wonton soup and BBQ pork fried rice. From that point, we have been ordering only these two dishes from them for years. It is pretty much our comfort food. It tastes good to me as long as they always do not put onions in my food as I requested.

Decor was really cute our waitress was nice and the food was good. my hubby and i got combination dinners sweet and sour chicken ,broccoli beef , egg rolls and egg drop soup. The egg roll was my favorite. Super delicious! The beef was a little chewy but my husband liked it. The veggies were cooked perfectly and the chicken was super yummy. Definitely will come back!

I can't say that this is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Salt Lake Valley, but it is a good lunch stop. You can pick up a pretty good meal of the standard fare for $5.00-$7.00. I am a big fan of the Mongolian Beef. The Pork Chow Mein with pan fried noodles is another good choice. Pros: relatively inexpensive, egg rolls, Mongolian Beef, Pork Chow Mein (with pan fried noodles), everything tastes like it is cooked to order Cons: service can be a little slow

The price is cheap. It is a little sad though because their dishes are hit and miss. Their lo mein was delicious as all get out with the noodles cooked perfectly. Their general tso's chicken was a pretty big let down. I would rate it higher if there was better consistency across the menu. In fact my lo mein deserves 5 stars but with so much of a difference I would see some people hating it and some people loving it. With that in mind, I give it only three stars even though I plan on going back for my lo mein :)

It is Americanized Chinese food. Good for the price, but not high quality food.

Every time I come here the customer service is terrible!!! Today I vowed to never return because my siblings and I waited for ten minutes and left because no one didn't approach us or greet us. And it wasn't even busy! Now I understand why it isn't busy to begin with because people know it has terrible customer service.

I have been coming here since I was a kid way back in 1988 back when it was called "New China". There was some others running it for a while but the original owner and his wife have returned and so have I. Not sure why there are negative reviews but I have always enjoyed the food.

My husband and I have ordered from here many times. Probably at least 10 times in the last 6 months. Personally, I never thought it was great food... I loved Asian potato much more. However, red lanterns green bean chicken was the best I'd ever had. Plus they delivered to our house, so that's a plus. But tonight we ordered our usual: two orders of green bean chicken and cream cheese wonton. My husband picked up the food on his way home from work. When he got home and opened the food, the dish looked different. It wasn't covered in the normal brown sauce we were used to, it appeared to have no sauce. He called the restaurant to see what happened- if they just forgot the sauce or if they changed the dish. It took 3 calls to finally get someone on the phone. The older man then began arguing with my husband saying it never came with brown sauce, only white sauce. Well the last 10 times we got it, it had brown sauce. So either it was made wrong every other time, or they changed it. Their menu doesn't specify. Whatever, we just wanted them to deliver the normal brown sauce we were used to. But he refused and kept insisting we were wrong. He was extremely impertinent. Finally out of frustration, my husband was sick of arguing and just wanted our money back. He made us drive back there and drop off the food before he would refund us. Then he still charged us for the three wontons we ate and continued to argue with us at the restaurant. I feel like a fairly simple situation and misunderstanding was blown up because his lack of customer service and unwillingness to help. It's a shame that a small restaurant with fairly good food is ruined because of terrible customer service. Don't get me wrong, I understand that customers aren't always right, and a lot of people out there are dishonest, but as frequent customers, we weren't asking for much, and certainly didn't want to be yelled at and called liars. A little bit would have gone a long way, but now they lost a customer. I urge anyone reading to learn from our experience and go elsewhere.

It was about 2:00 in the afternoon. Driving west on 90th south, I was starving! Out of the corner of my eye I saw what was clearly a Chinese restaurant with a big "$5 lunch special" sign out front. I am always up for a bargain, and I love Chinese! "Why not?" It didn't really concern me that there were not many cars in the parking lot. The lunch rush was over. When I was seated, there were two couples in the restaurant. The first I saw was an older couple in their 70s. I was seated next to the second, a couple who appeared to be in their 40s. The woman sat with both of her elbows on the table chomping her food loudly. Not the restaurant's fault, but in hindsight, this should have been a clue for me to head for the door. There was only one $5 option available--Egg Foo Young (not for me). I tried the General Tso's Chicken with hot & sour soup, fried rice, and an egg roll ($6.95). How could I go wrong with chicken, breaded and deep fried? Pros: The soup was good. They were not afraid to put a little heat in it, so I was impressed. I also liked their addition of fried wonton on top. And, the service was pretty good, too. Cons: When my completely brown plate came out, it didn't look that great, but it couldn't be that bad. Right? Well, the dry, overcooked rice was nearly flavorless; the egg roll lacked texture; and the chicken, covered in super-thin sauce, had a definite rewarmed flavor. Even worse, the oil the chicken was fried in was clearly past its prime. I am a "clean your plate" kind of guy. When I left, half of my meal was still on the plate. All around, not impressive at all.
