Pretty cool concept. You can get breakfast all day. I had the corned beef hash and it was fantastic. They use a nice brisket and you get a nice portion. The biscuits were tall and fluffy!

First time and no reason not to like it. Good service, nice diner style atmosphere and delicious food. I had the Smoked Sausage Scrambowl and it was DELICIOUS! Our server made sure to come by and check on us regularly, which is always nice.

The pricing is right, the portions are ridiculously awesome.... If you get the big bear burger, brace yourself or share. The volcano was awesome. I'd ask for eggs on the side instead of on top. Note: minor but good to know: for kid's meals, drinks are not included.

Food was way greasy. Customer service (the manager) was a joke. Won't ever dine here again.

Black bear is almost always busy but they get you in pretty quick and it doesn't take much longer for your food. I have been here 6 or 7 times and have made a point to try something different each time. I have been pleased each time with a delicious meal. The portions here are very generous. If you leave here hungry then it's your own fault.

Ahh food is just so so, I really enjoy the sweet cream pancakes and that's about all.The portions are huge here and I think you can get gravy on just about anything. The place it's cutely decorated if you like the country bumpkin look. Wouldn't be my first breakfast choice but it's above say an ihop.

HOLY PORTION SIZE. Don't come here if you are on a diet. Enough food on one plate to feed a small family. Yea.. huge. But it was also really good. So it wasn't "slopped" on the plate. It was actually really good. Good prices. Plan on taking a nap when you are done tho. Really nice staff. Its a new restaurant , very diner style. I ordered the "small" of the biscuts and gravy and eggs. It was all delicious. After rolling myself out .. I was finally able to sit down and write this review. If you want a nice , inexpensive and tasty meal- go here!

Just left after my first visit. Sat at my table for 15 minutes and was never acknowledged. I am now across a the courtyard enjoying delicious hot tortilla chips and salsa at Iggy's. Bye Felicia!!

Our breakfast this morning was excellent, but most of all our server, Tonna, was excellent. She made sure our food was prepared exactly like we wanted it, always made sure our beverages were fresh, and did it all with a smile. I will try to go often when she's working.

If you're looking for a lot of bang for your buck, this is the place. Affordable prices and a lot of food! Great if you're feeding a family. My daughter and I shared an order a of pancakes. These were some of the best pancakes I had in a while. Pancakes were so large we couldn't eat it all. We paid a total of $7.00 including tax. Service could have been better, but overall I can't complain. We'll definitely be back.

Such a fun place! Food was delicious and the prices were exactly spot on. We will back!!!

Yet another example of why I try not to review chains...this one is yet another that tries to differentiate itself. It has its own re-labeled hot sauce. Yay? The menu is printed on a thin newsrag thingy, which makes it difficult, borderline impossible to read. How clever, how kitschy, how nifty, neat, Americana? Or more like how stupid. No need to be that cutesy and since they were, I got immediately worried. Waiter led off by apologizing. Lots of staff bounding around, very few had any idea what they were either doing or supposed to be doing or what was there. Evidently, we arrived during a training session during operating hours or something. The waiter dude was also memorable in that he had a certain oddness about him. Quick lesson for all burgeoning wait staff: just bring me whatever food item from your menu I ask for. Charge me, don't charge me, whatever, but I don't want to discuss it any further than you bringing whatever it is I'm telling you to bring to me. This is not an overly complex concept. After a few hiccups, we finally got the stuff. For a place that really wants to conceptually be a high end diner, it cannot have missed the marks any further. A good diner is comfortable to be in. This is not. A good diner is warm and friendly and does not feature waiters telling you they will be slower than normal because they are too busy. A good diner does not pour on the pretensions and then fail miserably to back it up with food. They tend to be down to earth and what you expect is what you usually get. No airs, just stick-to-your-ribs stuff. Drinks were universally bad. No escaping that. Quality control skidded right off the rails there. Cornbread was sort of warm-ish, rather bland, but enough to melt the butter and otherwise borderline acceptable. In a good BBQ place, they would probably be thrown at the kitchen if they were served. The boiled ribs came coated in a thick layer of noxious BBQ sauce that was easily the rival of Bullseye and possibly was actual Bullseye. Whatever it was, it wasn't good and neither were the ribs. Fried shrimp was somehow worse and it tasted like a combination of really crappy breading and oil. The smoked sausage was somewhat of a saving grace, strictly by comparison, the overall winner, though it wouldn't be much more than average anywhere else. Fries were ok. I'll give them that, but frankly nothing tasted particularly good, of all the things I had. Certainly nothing I would ever entertain having again. Despite the case being full of some very kickass-looking pies, I couldn't bring myself to spend more time there and didn't trust them at all, given the abysmal dinner, to attempt one. I tend to have a very strong stomach, mostly cast-iron like, so much so that despite all the myriad ways I heap abuse on it, it never lets me down or even complains much. I admittedly take this thing I've been graced with for granted a lot and forget that it's capable of being damaged. After the visit here, I felt like I was first hit with a wrecking ball, then somehow swallowed it, so I guess, if nothing else, this served as a reminder that there are limits and made me appreciate the normality even more. They don't get extra stars for this abuse, however nor will they ever get a return.

Diner food... Don't bother. I'm not an awesome cook but I would at least have eaten my whole meal had I cooked it. Service was mediocre. My grandson liked the woman walking around asking the kids if they wanted her to make them a balloon creation. It wasn't until after my grandson asked for Spiderman that we realized this was an outside vendor working for tips. Not going back.

Breakfast. Walked in, instantly seated and greeted by a server (he was stellar, for all worrying about service issues). I ordered a custom omelette, which turned out great. The hash browns that came with it were my favorite part. The "fresh fruit" side, wasn't so fresh. Cantaloupe lacked taste, strawberries were sour, and the only real safe fruit was banana. The thing that bugs me the most about this place is they could charge less for less portions. I mean it definitely seems like you're getting what you pay for, but generally no one can really eat all this much so why give them this much and force them to pay for it in the first place? And $4 for orange juice?! I don't care if it's fresh squeezed, does it come with vodka in there or what?! Well at that price, it should. I was about to order another but I can't walk out of a diner knowing I spent $8 just on OJ.

Chain diner, what more is needed to say? Decor is the only thing setting this place apart. American portions, more expensive than a local diner, food flavor/quality nothing different than offered elsewhere. Location of the entrance is awkward but acceptable. Nothing about my experience made me want to go back, but nothing says stay away.

So yummy! Everyone is nice and the food is great. I am never disappointed when we come here to eat.

Everything here is big, and heavy, sort of like the citizens of Oklahoma. Nothing is really that great. The service is mediocre. I mean, if you want 7 pounds of eggs, four pounds of French toast, and 12 pancakes, that are all mediocre in taste, and pretty cheap, then you've found the right place. However, for future reference, I recommend having some self respect, heading to a location with lighter options, and better taste. Enjoy every bite of the food you eat. Make it joyful. Don't settle for food en mass anymore. Or do, because your taste buds are probably so shot anyway and you weigh too much to care anymore.

Ate here for my first time. Had low expectations. But was pleasantly surprised to find fast friendly service. Smiles and warm atmosphere. So many awesome options! A delicious sweet cream pancake. Hash browns cooked perfectly. And hot dishes! I will be back for more.

I absolutely love this place! The prices are great and you get so much food for your money. Be prepared to wait a little bit but the food is so good I can see why they have a wait. The staff is friendly and really helpful.

It was my first time ever eating here and it was a great experience! Drew was our waiter and he did an excellent job! He made sure we were enjoying our meal and that our drinks were always filled. Also we had a little boy with us and Drew was awesome with him. Would definitely go again!

I have been here a couple times and have done both breakfast and non breakfast food. I recommend the breakfast for sure! Other than that, I don't feel like I have too much to say, for once, about this place but I just have a bunch of tips. Let's just start with the scoring. I like to start by giving five stars and dock as I deem appropriate. -1 The wait. Weekend mornings are usually, okay it's always, crazy busy. Expect a wait! The food can also take a while to get to you as well regardless of whether or not it's busy. It's not a get in and get out kind of place. Heck, the menus are in newspaper format. It's a "come sit and hang out and eat a ton of good food with good company" kind of place. Which isn't a bad thing. You just gotta know that :) Overall bottom line and tips: 1) Order pancakes. It's amazing!! Best pancake I've ever had. 2) Go when you know you have some time. 3) Go hungry. They give you soooo much food. 4) Check out their OJ machine. It's so cool!

Come here hungry and you'll leave satisfied. The portions are quite overwhelming so you may even share. Once you come here you may even forget that theres ihop or dennys around. Came here on a sunday morning and the place was packed. The staff still gave excellent service. We had the steak, eggs benedict with chorizos, corned beef and shrimp salad blt. Everything was good not great, but still worth the visit.

  • Kyle C.

The food was great, but the service wasn't. I had a big chicken fried steak and eggs. My wife had a chicken club sandwich. The portions are very generous. It took over 10 minutes to be greeted once we sat down. Our waiter seemed to forget about us a couple of times and we had to wait a long time to get a box and our check.

Fourth time here today. Busy Sunday breakfast and lunch crowd! Staff was prepared for crowds and handled it well. I was disappointed to get half the portion of corned beef hash as my Mom did on a previous visit, but it is still a generous serving of fresh, delicious corned beef. Previously I've enjoyed the patty melt, taco salad (which is often a daily special to save a couple of bucks--and it's huge and yummy), and the chicken fried steak. In my younger days, I'd order CFS everywhere, and though I crave food that's not fried more often these days, I highly recommend theirs!

Went here for the first time for brunch with my friends over the weekend. I totally underestimated portions here. A side and kids meal could have definitely fiiled me. I got the country fried steak meal and it was pretty good. The fresh orange juice is on point!

Been here a few times for dinner after a long day of work and this place never seem to disappoint me. The size portion to every dish is great and I love hearty food. All very filling. I also like their French dip a lot. :)

Well, it's not my regular kinda breakfast place, but it'll do! I've been to a Black bear diner in another state and it was a lot different than this one. The one I had been to in Colorado was more like a paradise or panera, with a cafeteria style line and self seating. This was much more cozy and restaurant like. It totally reminded me of driving up the coast and eventually up the AlCan to Alaska in it's feel. Especially with all the kitschy bears everywhere. Portions are really, really generous. My husband ordered something called "the works" that could have fed our entire family. I had an apple sausage scramble and it was very tasty, and a bit on the lighter side. Sign up for their mailing list and get a free bear claw and coffee, and a free breakfast on your birthday!

Great food and large portions. I've yet to have a dish that I did not enjoy. The waiters and waitresses always provide a great service. I would recommend this place 10 times out of 10.

Can I say SUPER YUMMY? Everything we ordered was delicious. I ordered the omelet special of the day which was a reasonable price. Not only did it come with a side of potato, but a side of toast or biscuit. I asked if I could substitute for a pancake and she said yes. It was so much food I could only eat about half my plate. We took it home for left overs and enjoyed it a second time around. The food was home cooked quality. The staff was friendly and attentive. We had enough left overs for a second meal of the day. We will definitely be coming back.

My favorit dessert in town, the gluten free lava cake, so chocolatey, you really need 2 or 3 people to eat it. Delicious!

Our favorite breakfast spot in West Jordan! Service can be hit or miss, but we've only experienced one miss so far. Come hungry, you will not be disappointed!! Our favorites include the steak and eggs, biscuits and gravy, chicken fried steak and the pancakes.

Place gets packed fast. Good coffee, medium roast with many creamer options. ( I like variety, especially the discontinued ameretto) the food is well cooked, I love me a chicken fried steak, good gravy and eggs! Prices are fair, could be better on the extras or sides of you will. Service is mild, I've had some good and some not so friendly waters ( so be advised to be forward if you want more coffee etc) fun environment though and over all good old fashioned mountain bear diner! Check it out, I'll be back

Third time here. they have not gotten my eggs right once. Why can they not cook an over - medium egg. The Styrofoam to-go coffee cups look cheesy. Get a real cup. the biscuits and gravy are good, but the huge portions could feed small countries. that is all.

Volcano - sweet cakes, bacon, sausage, and eggs. Tasty. 1st time hear... I will be back as a more regular I believe. Gives you the fewl of small / local; part of a regional chain. Not anything like an IHOP, Dennys, & better than Original Pancake House. Enjoy! Seems great.

As Jean W said, if the Country Bear Jamboree and a traditional American diner were somehow blended together, this would be the result. This is a great diner with a unique, fun theme. Continuing the parallel, the diner even has a small souvenir shop by the door, and in true Disney fashion you must pass through it as you exit. But enough about that--we're here to eat! Thankfully, the BBD comes through with flying colors. While I have been to BBDs in other states, this was my first visit to a Utah location. I always have breakfast when I visit, and I've always been satisfied. This location was no different: the portions are generous, the service is fast and the price is fair. My waitress (Tonna) took *very* good care of me; she helped me through the ordering process (sometimes it is hard to choose only one item), she checked in on me frequently and she kept the Mountain Dew coming faster than I could drink it. I would happily eat here again, and I'd recommend the Black Bear Diner to anyone.

I waited 40 minutes for burned, cold food. It's breakfast, people! How hard is it to cook sausage, eggs, hashbrowns and fruit?!- Oh, excuse me, no fruit. They forgot to bring it. When I sent back the cold hash browns, and asked for them not to be put in the microwave, my server did not come back for another 20 minutes and then told me "The kitchen is backed up, but they'll be out soon." I asked for them to take it off of my bill. They still charged me over $7.00! I should have walked out without paying a cent. Better yet, I shouldn't have walked in the door in the first place! You would think they would comp the whole meal when I told the cashier what had happened. Nope! STAY AWAY! Bad food! Long Wait times. It's not worth it!

With overall feel of IHOP but somehow with more "character" in the form of a borderline overwhelming amount of bear paraphernalia, my first impression was somewhat torn. I would have preferred a more "locals only" feel, but I tried with all my might to withhold judgement until I had a full stomach. We had no crowds to contend with at 8am on a weekday morning, which supported our goal of a timely, yet hearty, pre-slopes meal. The themed kitsch continued at the table and menu items and generated a few internal eye rolls. But as soon as I took the first bite of my "Fit & Focused" Chicken Apple Sausage scramble, I was more able to block out the intensity of the bear motif. I wasn't able to finish more than 2/3 of my scramble, perhaps because I was also noshing on the plate-sized sweet cream pancake I convinced my husband to order as one of his side selections. While the pancake was a bit too sweet for my taste, the fluffy texture and complementary syrup kept me going back for "one more bite." Overall, a very satisfactory meal and surprising value, but I could do without the unavoidable lingering bear thoughts as I head to the mountains.

We went here for breakfast the other morning and it was great the hash was amazing fresh shredded hash then they put it on the grill for a minute or two before plating. (second best hash I have had in SLC) The service is great I asked for poached eggs with my hash and the eggs came out over cooked hard as a rock so I asked for some others and they were quick to replace them with fresh nicely poached eggs. only complaint would be is that the toast was cold, My guest had the chicken fried steak and it was just as good as the hash, you need to get here early as by time we left there was a big line and maybe 7-8 parties waiting to be seated. it is good old home cooked food and portions were big as well. I will be back oh and their coffee, excellent!

Great tasting food. The portion sizes are huge. It took a few short minutes to get us seated but once we were seated and ordered it took longer than I am used to for our food to come out. I was excited for the ballon guy to come around but he never made it to our table. I wanted to get a balloon for my daughter. We were there for about an hour. I will return.

Never been here so I wanted to try it out. Went with my older sister and our waitress had the same humor as us and was hilarious! I didn't catch her name but she seemed to be a tomboy. Anyways, they're corn bread muffins are so sweet and yummy. My entrée was decent and it was a HUGE sized portion of fries (refer to pictures) then I ended up ordering their bread pudding and our waitress was so kind to not charge us for it because she said she liked us. 5/5 stars!

This is my new favorite breakfast spot close to our new house. Order the works omelet. It's seriously 3 meals in one and you won't be disappointed. It hasn't ever been busy at breakfast time and all the servers are really nice. They also have a little kid play corner with toys and books if you have a little one with the wiggles.

Really big portions for a really great price. I haven't ever had a bad meal at this location. Service is always decently fast. Their country potatoes and pancakes are some of the best I've had in ages.

I love getting their ribs and the huckleberry is a must! The ribs just fall right off. The portion is good too so it's quantity and quality. Overall, the service is nice and comfortable like at home.

Eeeewwww! I won't be back. Food fell short. Mashed potatoes were good but, brown gravy was instant and so concentrated it was inedible. Splurged on the prime rib. It was cold and chewy. The pork cutlet was pounded so thin that it was more bread than meat but, the spiced apples were a nice surprise. Wait staff was really nice. Attentive and cheerful.

This is a good solid choice for a meal. The chicken fried steak was fresh and good. The vegetables didn't come from a can. The fish and chips were good but the tratar sauce needs just a touch more lemon (ask for a few slices). The portions are large and the prices not bad. I would really prefer coke products to the Pepsi they serve. The desserts looked tasty but we were too full to try them.

  • Kassi K.

I liked how quickly they seated us. We had to sit in a really crowded place. We almost didn't fit, I had to squeeze to fit in the table. I didn't like the biscuit I ordered. we didn't get correct silverware and had to ask for some more. And the menu was confusing. The bacon was really good though. And our waiter was nice and helpful.

Their breakfast is great. Huge portions, share with someone and get the biscuits. I lived in the South for many years and their biscuits are some of the best I have ever had.

Not a great place for vegetarians. My brother in law selected this place for his birthday dinner, in spite of the fact that two of us are vegetarians. I checked the menu before I went and found they would substitute a veggie burger for their other burger options ( this is printed on the menu) So I agreed to go. I ordered a veggie burger in place of the turkey burger and my sister ordered the taco salad with no meat. They brought the salad out with half a cow on it, which was clearly evident. The server had them take it back and remake it, so when they brought my veggie burger out I double checked that it was the veggie burger. The server confirmed that the patty was the veggie burger. Only he was wrong, it was a turkey burger. I didn't find this out until I had taken a big bite. This really upset me because I am ethically opposed to personally eating meat and wasting meat. The server was apologetic and they comped me the veggie burger, but I think he failed to understand that being a vegetarian for a lot of people is not just I don't like meat. This really upset me, and I wish I had never gone. I wanted to leave a review in case other vegetarians want to eat there so they can watch out for what seems like a pattern.

Love the bear decor, the pastry case, the music they played the first time I was there, and the man making balloon animals for the kids, also the first time I was there. However, the food was just disappointing the two times I was there. Had the Bears Benedict the first time. Food was cold, muffin too soggy as if was sitting for a long time. Country potatoes were good. Husband's breakfast consisted of sausage and eggs and he was a pleased with his meal. On our second visit it was very disappointing. Was there with a party of eight. We waited about 20 minutes, not too long. After we ordered, we waited 45 minutes for our food. Waiter forgot several items for our table. Everybody, except for two people, got their food. Those two people had to wait an additional 10 minutes to get their food and everybody else was almost done with theirs. After complaining to management, they finally decided to tell us that they were short staffed and that's why we had to wait so long for our food. It would have been a little courteous if they would've told us that in the beginning. I had the turkey burger and it was an extra firm frozen patty that I believe was just microwaved. Not at all appetizing. Pricey, but the portions are big ... just not very good. Probably will not return. Too many other good places in Salt Lake that are not chain restaurants.

It's like The Country Bear Jamboree up in here, but with a welcoming case of beautiful baked goods. Fun for the kiddos, good theme schtick for advertising, but for me, breakfast - and breakfast alone - is why you come here. A few highlights: - Chunks of REAL red potatoes, sauteed with onions, green peppers, etc. make up their Country Potatoes. (This is not out of a Sysco bag.) - Good coffee. Not great coffee, but hey, it's a diner. So, good diner coffee. - Chicken Apple Sausage: so yummy, you'll want to slap Johnny Appleseed's Mom. - Huge 3-egg omelettes with great ingredient choices. Plenty of mention has been made of their Sweet Cream Pancakes. I found them way too sweet. I'm sure this appeals to most people who can appreciate the intense sweet, but not I. I want my pancakes to taste like pancakes, not a sweet roll. I now opt for their Seven-Grain Granola cakes. Hubby orders the Turkey Dinner, no matter what time of day we're here. He says it's "awesome," which, for him, is a whole lotta description of delicious. It's piled on the plate, looks like Thanksgiving, and his plate is licked clean within 6 minutes. He's a big fan. They offer a wide menu with lots of selection (5 different varieties of sausage, people!). Creative omelette choices, smaller portion options, Bacon Benedict, and something called The Volcano! Everything is reasonably priced, so you can bring the fam. We've been on Saturday and Sunday, early and late for the breakfast hour, and never waited longer than 10 minutes to be seated. We've never had inadequate or subpar service, either. Coffee is refilled regularly, delicious food is delivered promptly to our table, and we haven't been made to wait extensively for anything. It's always been a pleasure for us at Black Bear, and I always look forward to going back.

Heard a lot of great things about this restaurant! Came here for a birthday brunch with a party of about 20, the wait was over an hour but the birthday boy really liked this place and they didn't take reservations. I got the steak and eggs entre and the portions were huge for a good price and my food was delicious! It even came with pancakes! I could have probably ate the 2 pancakes alone and got full lol. The food was really good and I would definitely recommend this place. I also forgot to add they have yummy fresh squeezed orange juice! I gave 4 stars because of the wait. They said about 40 but it was over an hour! But overall it was yummy and I don't think the wait is usually nearly that long.

Wow... I can't even begin with this place. I tend not to listen to the crazy one star reviewers, but I honestly can't give this place anything about that. Maybe it was the hour I went that undid it all Me and my bf stopped at this place as a last resort for a late dinner on a Saturday. He was starving and we had already tried several other places but to no avail. I was getting so hungry I could eat a whole chicken and him... well let's just say bear meat wouldn't have been enough! So we head in at 930, the places closes at 10. We sit down in the large booths and... that's it... we just sit and sit and sit and no one, I mean no one even came by to offer us water. There were all these waiters and other restaurants workers running around in there, yelling back and forth, saying how good it is that it's Saturday night and almost closing time and that they get to go home. Meanwhile, the starving customers are in the booth. There were a fair number of people in there as well. The menus were kind of neat because they were in the fashion of old gazettes. The place was themed out in Oregon forestry style with lots of wood objects and black bears everywhere. The prices looked great and the food too. Looked like a nice diner for comfort food such as meatloaf and mast potatoes. Alas, after 25 minutes of waiting and not one person approaching the table, we decided to leave. I'm steaming and my bf just want's to leave. Well I said something to the young woman at the register who tried to make a joke out of the whole situation by saying "Next time, stand up and demand service!!!" I was not in a laughing mood and her joke essentially put the responsibility of service back to me. Well maybe I would have if someone had even passed my table! It's like they shoved us in the corner and forgot about us and weren't even concerned when we marched out of there.

We were seated right upon arrival. The service was good and the food was exceptionally tasty with great prices. My Son ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and was quite satisfied with them. My fiance and I ordered the eggs Benedict: California bacon style and the pot roast....Both were delicious. The portions are quite large, I ended up taking mine to go. They have the best cornbread muffin ever!

In the past I would have given this place 4 stars, but last week I went in with my wife, 32 yr son 3 grandkid's 8,6,2. It wasn't all that busy but we were forgotten even as we were sat at the table next to the kitchen. After e-mailing their SLC office about some concerns and requesting to be called for a follow up, a week later still nothing. My wifes' order with ham came out with bacon instead. What happened next was very disturbing. The waiter came back with a small plat, asked my wife to place the bacon on the plate so he could take it back. WRONG!!!! I watched him take it into the kitchen and pass the garbage can heading right to the prep area. My wife is a restaurant owner, I have a food handlers permit, we KNOW what is correct practice. The bacon should have stayed with the customer and a correct side of ham added for free. VERY DISGUSTED with that day. Very disappointed in BBD mgmt.

Ate breakfast here during the summer. It was busy but they got us in and fed pretty quick. The food is delish, the staff was great and the price is AMAZING!!!

I was here on vacation and my husband and I eat at these back home all the time. Black Bear Diner is great, but my sister said this one half and half on service. Sometimes its great, sometimes not. Thankfully we got a good day. We went on a busy Sunday morning and here is a TIP: if there's only a few of you and there is a line, if there are spots open at the bar you can go right up and eat there instead of waiting forever! You still get served, and they are closer to the kitchen so more waiters are around if you need anything. My food came out a little cold but the waiter was so nice and offered to remake or even give me some to go that I could eat the next morning. I definitely suggest giving this place a try. And their non breakfast food is delicious too! Try the choc. cream pie to go (they are up in the case by the register) delicious!

What a difference a few months make- and not in a good way. Daughter ordered the soup and turkey sandwich. When she asked the waitress what soups they had, the waitress rattled off two soups but literally went over to take the lid off the third soup as she didn't know??? Then some other guy brings out her sandwich solo a good 5 minutes before the others at the table got their food. Why wasn't the soup brought out with the sandwich? Sandwich was very thin, simple white bread, way too much lettuce and store bought turkey. Very unforgettable sandwich. Soup, however, was not bad. (Cream of steak soup, go figure). I had the $7.99 steak& eggs special. I will say this, for the money the steak was flavorful and tender. The scrambled eggs were very bland. Hash browns were very heavy as in too much oil and tasted like they had been made much earlier in the day. The biscuit was large like the ones at Log Haven, but that's where the similarities end. Very dry, not flaky at all and probably made a couple of day ago. Service was weak. Server was more interested in bullshitting with all the workers and a few stray friends that had gathered around the kitchen. In fact, their conversations were much louder than any going on in the restaurant. I liked this place when it first opened, but sadly, it's turned into an old diner atmosphere.

The portions are almost too big! I really don't like taking a bunch of food home. It just takes up space in the fridge, and almost never gets eaten. There are nine of us in the house, and we all went. There are now nine boxes of leftovers cramed into the fridge. However, our server (Andy) was great, and the food was good.

I was really excited to try this place for breakfast, after seeing the crowds and some of the reviews. It was so disappointing. Wow. Slow service seems to be a common complaint in reviews, and my experience was no different. And it's not just that the service was slow. They were also ambivalent. Slow and blah. I can overlook some service sins if the food is good, though. After a wait, my food arrived. It was disappointing as well. I had standard breakfast fare - eggs, hash browns, and cured meats. Pretty straight forward. I do not classify the food as bad - there wasn't anything really awful about it. But it's really not good, either. I don't think it's special in any way at all. If you like waiting around for blah servers to bring you unmemorable food to shovel down your gullet, this is right up your alley. I, however, won't be back.

Ugh. Was it bad? No. Was it good? No. It just was. Portions were decent prices were reasonable. It was really my fault for expecting more, it was a diner why did I get anything other than diner food? Those that ordered meat and potato type dishes seemed to be quite happy, I on the other hand ordered the pecan crusted trout. The trout was not done any favors by the Bear, coleslaw tasted as if it were packaged while the cornbread muffins which came gratis were oh so yummy. If you get a salad or anything that requires dipping or could be dipped get a side of the bacon ranch. As is a well know fact everything is better with bacon... Or is it ranch? I think I've heard both before so I think bacon ranch makes everything perfect.

I've gone to this places so many times I can't even count. I almost always get the same thing, their french toast with bacon and over-easy eggs. The over-easy eggs aren't seasoned at all, so if you like seasoning on them, you probably won't like them. But I like no seasoning on my eggs, so I'm good! (That only goes for the over-easy, I don't know about the scrambled or other cooked eggs). The BLAST sandwich is delish, I always order it without mayo and I think the avocados do a great job at moistening the sandwich. I have a group of 7-ish friends who've come with me most times I've gone, and they all really like the food, too, including the diner menu. Their corn muffins are TO DIE FOR. Always order them, and have them with the butter that comes out. Corn muffins alone are a 5 star. Having raved about the food, the only thing about this particular location is the service isn't on par. I've heard the Sandy location has *much* better service. We've had servers who never brought us our silverware (we got up and got it ourselves), we've been sat in areas that have no server currently working in that area (after 15-ish min a server came up and explained the situation, but we did get free ice cream which was bomb), servers who misinform us about their food (I was told they had strawberry lemonade, which I ordered only to find out they didn't), and servers who didn't know their food (we asked questions to which the server grabbed one of the menu off the tables and read straight off it). They're also not great at filling up drinks. We usually have to get their, or more often another waiter's, attention. I've had a few excellent service situations, but they are not the usual. I'd still go back.

Our first visit was this weekend and sorry to say, we were not impressed at all. It literally took 25 minutes to get our beverages. They ran out of soup (this was early in the evening) & when the food finally came, it was a huge dissapointment. The tri tip was nothing but fat, just horrible. I'm confused why there was such a line to get into this place when we were leaving. Thumbs down all around.

My father always said "Son, never eat anything bigger than your head." Luckily for me, I've never never really thought my father's pearls of wisdom were all that great. As you have probably heard, the portions sizes at Black Bear are truly something to behold. And what's more amazing, quality does not seem to be a trade off. The food is genuinely tasty, honest and for lack of a better phrase just what you'd hoped it would be. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and a side of Biscuits and Gravy (I guess I was really Jonesing for some gravy, don't judge me) and my wife had the Western Burger and the accompanying mountain of fries. I can honestly say, hand over heart, that it was all as good as i'de ever had. The atmosphere left a bit to be desired. Personally I was hoping for more of a rough edge and seedy lighting, but what I got was more like the love child of a Village Inn and the Quilted Bear. One redeeming quality were the menus printed on what appeared to be 1950s news paper (old adds and all). That was fun. The service wasn't rude, but it did feel a bit rushed, forgetful and unpolished; to be fair I'm pretty sure our server was new. Overall, this is not the kind of place you go to basc in the glow of the campy wall hangings. It is however the kind of place you go when your eyes are bigger than your stomach. A true family restaurant where no one should ever leave hungry or disappointed.

I went for brunch and got sat right away. I didn't care too much about the decor. A little too much I think, but everything else was spot on! The food was delicious and the service wasn't bad. Whenever I asked for something they didn't hesitate an were very friendly. I got the California Benedict and was not disappointed! I will definitely be back!

We have been addicted to coming to Black Bear Diner for a couple of months now. We frequently come for the amazingly, yummy large portions for a small price. We have had the server, Kelsey, most times and she is always on top of everything from beginning to end of our visit. We have had other servers, but the experience is not the same. So we now request to be in her section and will wait until her section opens up! Totally worth it!!!

We went there today with a party of 18!! They were so prepared and on top of it! We had little kids yelling and playing around, and they were so patient!! The food is amazing and they give you SO much!! Every time any waitress or waiter would come around to anyone's table they'd ask how everything is even if they weren't our waiter. It took a little while for our food to come out, which is expected. But I was very impressed with the service!

Haven't even eaten yet but this place sucks. Waited 2 hours to be seated (we were told it would be 1). Then nobody could figure out who our server was. It's loud and hectic in here and I'm officially grouchy now. I will never be back

First of all I have written a review before (October 28,2013) on this restaurant which I reviewed it as extremely bad. Days after that review I reviewed the Sandy Location as Excellent. I felt this location needed another review. Last Saturday Nov 9,2013 we came here again. They were extremely busy. The place was full. They said there would be a twenty min wait. (We don't wait at any restaurant more than a couple of min - (Too many alternative restaurants to go to so you don't need to wait) again we went next door to Ihop (which was very busy also but we sat write down and got served) This Restaurant we ate at Wednesday Nov 13,2013. Restaurant wasn't extremely busy. You could place all the customers in one section (they have 3 sections) and it would be about 1/2 full. I ordered their 16 oz steak and a bowl of Bean Soup. (Both were excellent) - my wife ordered a sandwich with a salad (all were excellent) Our waitress was Chelsey - She did a excellent job of taking care of us. Service was totally excellent. The Restaurant deserves a pat on the back.......

Very happy to see a new restaurant come to Jordan Landing. This is the same restaurant chain that we use to frequent in California. Went for Sunday breakfast and was not disappointed. The service was excellent, the food was very good. Just come with a friend or a healthy appetite as the breakfast portions are large. I reccomend the cinnamon french toast!

They have huge portions and nice staff. The bear claws are amazing! I like that they offered breakfast, lunch, and dinner at all times. We've only been once, but we are definitely going back again.

The food is good, but the service is lacking, probably due to the restaurant opening this week. If you like the food I recommend going to the black bear diner in sandy. We got our drinks 10 minutes after ordering them. They ran out of ice, did not bring coffee creamer, forgot who ordered what, brought out the wrong food, and more.

food is solid and fresh, portion sizes are outstanding! service is apathetic at best, even the 2 mgrs I dealt with seemed like they were counting down hours to the end of their shift

Good food - service is nothing exceptional but not bad either. Some items are large portions if you like that you would probably make it a 4 star.

I remember seeing these locations in parts of California but never ate there. When I noticed one at Jordan Landing, it wasn't long before I came to eat. You first notice that it has a very woodsy feel to the building and decor, which I think matches their menu perfectly. I had the Chicken Fried Steak and enjoyed it very much. Our service was neitger magnificent nor bad. Overall I was pleased with my visit and will visit again.

This place has gone down hill. We used to live this place when the first opened and know the service is slow and bad and the food is horrible. Tonight will be our last meal there until they straighten things up. Even when we asked for the manager it took her 15 minutes to show up. They just don't care anymore. 1 star is to many but had to give.

I can't say enough good about this restaurant! They always give huge portions of excellent tasting food! If you want a country style restaurant and are really hungry, this is the place to go!

We discovered black bear diner probably a couple months ago and since then have been about 5 times. we keep coming back for two reasons. #1 the food is really is very tasty and the portions are good. #2 the service is friendly and swift even if you have to wait for a table sometime because so many people want to eat here. I have to recommend Kelsey she always gives us great service and we actually request her section each time even if it requires a wait. The service Kelsey provides moves this restaurant from being a good place to eat, to a wwonderful eating destination.
