There aren't a lot of options in Vernal but Quiznos has good food at a reasonable price. The staff here is on point and if you are going to choose one of the sandwich shops in town, I would recommend coming here!

Stopped here on the way back from Yellowstone. The cab driver, who looked like "the stranger" from the big lebowski, affirmed to us that Utah's achaic alcohol laws have been changed over the last few years. The drinks here are reasonably priced, but be prepared for 3% alcohol content beer and shots served to you in a thimble. I blew a hundred bux to get myself and my girlfriend drunk. The place was a trip, for a person who has spent little time in a small town. After midnight it started to feel like we were crashing at a high school house party. I don't know how people can get so wasted on such chincy amounts of booze . My girlfriend was attacked by seagulls (men) who found it strange that a purdy girl didn't have an engagement ring. We started walking to the motel and were offered a ride from a patron of this place. Overall, a memorable experience for us, but that's just because it was so far and away from sweet home, OC.
My brother and I stopped here one night last July. We were surprised they were still serving dinner since it was nearly ten. I give this place 4 stars based on an excellent steak, (overcooked) and the weirdest decor I've ever seen. So wierd it was interesting. (Interesting like Bobby Peru is interesting, if you know what I mean.) The bill was a bit high, but I only balk at price when I get low quality, and this was a really nice flavorful steak. You'd have to see the decor to understand, and I think it's worth the trip for those who appreciate the esoteric. Not for the family with youngsters!
We aren't from the area but wanted dinner and a drink. The place is restaurant on one side and and a newly added sports bar on the other. We only had appetizers and 2 entrees but everything was cooked great. The bar side had 4 pool tables and 4 Dartslive dartboards and the drinks were reasonable.

Tacos El Gordo

All the meat was delicious, and I love the soda selection. Plus, great chips and salsa.
Having passed this place many times and wondering about the food (I mean it's a gas station turned eatery for crying out loud!).... we finally tried it today and it was FANTASTIC! Our only complaint was a piece or two of chewy fat on our pork tacos. The selection is awesome. The food is FRESH. The grease on this greasy spoon is actually MINIMAL. There are many fun sodas and other treats that one would find at a Mexican/Latin market. We had the tacos today and the green salsa is VERY spicy but I loved it as I like flaming hot food. We will most certainly be back again.
If you don't eat here when you are in Vernal, you're a fool. Hands down some of the best Mexican I've ever had. Somebody needs to get the food network here pronto. You can't go wrong with anything you order it's all perfect.

Plaza Mexicana

Charming restaurant with excellent food and great service. Very clean. Amazingly complete menu including about 12 different margarita choices!
Plaza Mexicana is quite possibly the best Mexican restaurant I've been to. The service is always fast & extremely friendly. The atmosphere is upbeat and the decor is bright and festive, all in all a fun experience. The most important part is that the food is amazingly delicious!! The asada (beef) has always been cooked to perfection, juicy & the right temperature that's been asked, the camarones (shrimp) are cooked through and not overdone, the pollo (chicken) is tender & juicy. The sauces are full of flavor and amazing in themselves and don't even get me started on the cabbage salsa! It's a bit on the pricey side but you most definitely get more than enough food every time. My family & I have always had a great experience at Plaza Mexicana!
What a surprise to run into such an amazing Mexican food place in Vernal, UT! My friends and I were coming in from California. We tried the Colorado Chile and boy it was amazing. The portions are huge I think you can fill two people on one serving. The interior of the restaurant is fantastic, I have never seen such beautiful hand carved and colorfully pointed tables and chairs. It is a bit on the pricey end for a place in Utah. But considering the quality and quantity of food and the ambience of the restaurant itself, it's just worth it.

McDonald’s

This brand new McDonald's is very nice instead with modern decorations and a earthy color palette of browns and greens. During our visit in Vernal we were hungry, it was Sunday, and we didn't have a lot of options. So we stopped at the always reliable golden arches. I've taken to eating at McDonald's a lot more recently than I should be. I'm hooked on their new Frozen Strawberry Lemonades and on a hot summer day they are a temptation I find hard to resist. With a lemonade in hand I most often will also be tempted to get something to eat too, my favorite is the dollar menu spicy chicken sandwich or when I'm hungrier the crispy chicken club is great too. Like them, love them or hate them McDonald's serves up some tasty food that's cheap and convenient and sometimes that's exactly what I want.

I'm giving this 4 Stars as far as Subways go. It had nice sandwich artists, veggies that didn't look or taste like crap--we've all had those mealy tomatoes, right?--and the dining area was tidy. I didn't visit the bathrooms, but given the newness of the entire establishment, I would venture to guess they are at least acceptable. Bonus! It's right next door to the Staybridge Suites.

Wimpy’s Place

Reviews:
I've been to Wimpys twice now, ate in once and ordered Togo tonight! It was awesome! Better then Freddie's burgers by far! It may not be the most presentable place but hey like they say don't judge a book by its cover
As a devotee of the small town burger shack, I was more than excited to see this old-school, off-the-beaten-track place when I was in Vernal. It's up in Maeser, which is just a few minutes off of the main Highway 40. Driving up, it was pure perfection. Kinda run-down, and old Wimpy (the character from Popeye) on the sign, and when you enter it's a counter, a few old seats, and a jukebox with a large collection of '80s hits and '90s pop. A dollar brought the glory of Achy Breaky Heart and some classic Wang Chung. So far so good. I had a double cheeseburger, and it was okay. No complaints from me, except that they had run out of lettuce. The fries, however, were struggling. They suffered from limp fry syndrome, and held more than their fair share of oil with less than their fair share of crisp. I also got to try the Wimpy Burger, and to put it kindly, would not order it. It lacked any flavor but grill, and though it was a generous size, and plenty of will, it didn't get eaten. Since I combo mealed, I got a drink. Which is okay, but do note that they charge for refills as well as extra sauce. I'm glad I went--and perhaps I should have ordered a shake to top things off, but next time in town I'll explore a little more and see what other options are available for my road-trippin' tummy.
Delicious raspberry shake (with scoop ice cream), good fries and burgers. Jukebox has good tunes. A couple of arcade games (Galaga and Ms. Pac-man). Kids meals are a good deal. Bathroom is behind the counter, but they're cool about it.

Dickeys BBQ

2085 W Hwy 40,Vernal
Vernal, 84078
Reviews:
Went around 130 on a Thursday and there wasn't any line. I got the daily deal of cheesy sausage and pulled pork. The food was delicious, the serving sizes were huge, and the staff was fast and friendly. I've been to many other Dickeys and this was by far my best experience.
So I called Dickeys BBQ at 8pm to inquire about their closing time. A staff member said 9pm. We hopped in the van and headed over post haste. We showed up at 8:45 and found the doors locked. People were eating at tables, but we couldn't get in. The posted hours on the door clearly stated "9:00PM" and my phone displayed 8:44pm. No one was behind the counter. Instead, there was a cadre of obese teenage lollygaggers smoking hashish in the back alleyway. I didn't approach the stoned Dickey's employees, because I was fearful of my continence. I reentered my vehicle and broadcasted my complaint from a safe distance, repeatedly shouting "I know you are open! I wanted pulled pork!" The smokers turned their heads in my direction, but didn't move. Perhaps their drug-induced condition limited their cognition. They tracked me as I drove out of the lot and on to Highway 40.
Could not fault this local eating eating establishment in the lovely town of Vernal, Utah. The customer service was superb; the servers were polite and friendly and the cashier approached us halfway through the meal to ask us how we were fairing. As for the food it was, in all honestly, the best fast food I've had so far in the state. We both had the Monday special of a brisket burger, two sides and a large drink. The burger was brilliant (especially with the home BBQ sauce) and not too greasy. I loved the jalapeños beans and the fried ocra was an interesting (if a tad acquired) taste. I also quite enjoyed the home ice tea. It was an extremely filling and delicious meal that I could not fault. One of the little touches, which I think renders this place above average, are the cute little mottos adoring everything from the free recyclable plastic cups to the napkins. A great touch! If in the mood for relatively cheap food that will fill, satisfy and (dare I say it?) delight then this is the place for you. Highly recommended.
