It is surprising to find such a fine restaurant just outside of the Capitol Reef National Park. We were having a dinner after a long visit from the park. We tried to stay with a balanced diet, so my wife and I shared a rib plate and a large salad plate. The rib plate comes with a corn chowder. The salad is actually a pretty good sized meal with very good variety of vegetable. The corn chowder is quite delicious. For the ribs, I think it was a little overlooked (or overburned). The BBQ sauce was very good though. The spicy fries were actually quite interesting, and I recommend to try. The main complaint I had is the fact that the food preparation and the service can be slow. We were there for more than one and a half hour to get our dinner done - including half an hour wait for the food. It is obvious that they are under-staffed in both the kitchen and the dining area.

Being that Capitol Reef is one of the least visited national parks, I was expecting more of a wow factor when we arrived for dinner. I'll give them this- their patio has amazing views. Especially around sunset, which is when we were there. Sadly the patio is the best part. Menu has a large amount of pizzas to chose from, or you can build your own. For the price point, I expected something better. $20 for a large that is bland. I'm now finding myself googling child labor laws. The oldest waiter in the place was 14. How do I know? Well, two reasons. First, when we ordered beer, it would be delivered by a much older person. First give away with Utah's dumb ass laws. Second, when it was delivered, it was wrong. Not even close. Being the beer snobs we are, we would politely explain and the adult would get it correct. If you're in the neighborhood and don't mind my complaints, it's worth sitting on the patio for a few beers after a day of hiking. I'll give them that. Just skip the food. Also, explain your beer order. Carefully.

Great food and great service. Nice patio with a broad view of the red rocks at Capitol Reef N.P. Had a mole chicken entreé which was tasty, I thought they could use even more spice in it. Among the limited eating options nearby this is a great choice.

A lot of people are definitely confusing this place with the Red Cliff (which is a divey burger and pizza joint in the town of Torrey). Rim Rock, on the other hand, is on highway 24 just outside town with a stunning view of the surrounding mesas. The menu offers a selections of steaks, Utah trout, and a few lighter options. Order the tenderloin. Don't let the cranberry reduction sauce throw you: it is a succulent cut and the Demi-glacé is not overly sweet. The spicy fries were tasty, but I wish I had tried the mashed potatoes. The corn chowder was nice and light, although could use a lot of pepper for my tastes. We enjoyed watching the hummingbirds divebombing each other in the hummingbird feeder as we ate. A great alternative to Cafe Diablo - more casual, less pretentious, unbeatable view.

The meal I had here saddened me. I went to Rim Rock restaurant the night before and the food was amazing. I intended to go there again, but they were not open for lunch. But this one was. Sign said BBQ, Pizza, Pasta - I got that unlike the restaurant, the patio would be casual. But I didn't expect the quality to be on opposing sides of the spectrum. I ordered the baked spaghetti pesto w/ gargantuan meatballs. It came with salad on the side w/ a berry vinaigrette. Sadness. I tasted it and literally thought "wow, this tasted like it's something I made three weeks ago, found in the fridge, and stupidly microwaved and eat it." I couldn't. I took a bite, swallowed and played with the salad. My hubs told me to eat his combo pizza. That one tastes like frozen pizza but it was edible. I told him everything here tastes like it comes from a can. I warned him to not try my spaghetti, it tasted stale. He did.. and he said, "have you ever had pesto from a powder? That's this." I was like "are you sure? This tastes super old, as if they used bad oil or something." Service was awesome. There was one lady named Traci I think. She was super sweet and attentive. We were trying to get out and drive 350 mi to Vegas, so I didn't trouble her with ordering anything else due to time constraint (and seeing there's only one of her and six ppl in the resto.) Five stars for this hardworking lady. Even though the view was good, the ambience felt like.. a ghost town dilapidated resto. We sat next to plastric plants by the front window. It hasn't been dusted in awhile. So there's a layer of dust, kinda feel dirty. Don't go here.

Gorgeous setting, the food portions are large, the servers are very friendly. Pretty good place to eat if you are on your way from Capital Reef towards Bryce

Rim Rock has a view to dine for! Food is good we shared the ribeye it was cooked just right. Plenty of food for two. It is a little expensive but what place isn't here! Wait staff were attentive and overall good experience.

Fantastic window views from the restaurant, especially in the morning or evening. Really made me take my time when eating breakfast. Food is standard. I ordered the trout with my complimentary breakfast and it was not bad. Coffee was decent and the service was good. You don't have many options in Torrey and this place does just fine. One thing I noticed that was kind of annoying were the number of flies inside. It's probably not that easy to keep them out though.

Yummy breakfast. The bread was amazing. Bacon was delish. Fruit was good. Views are fantastic. Prices are reasonable as well.

I must say, I has the best service in the restaurant with Sherri. She was professional, communicates great and attentive. She paid attention to everything on was on top of it all, to when more coffee was needed, more water etc...very prompt It was refreshing to have such great service after being on the road for 35 days and having crap service. I would return simply for her

Beautiful location with spectacular views of Capitol Reef National park. The food, however, not so good. The mixed grill: buffalo sausage, mahi-mahi and squab. Both the fish and squab were dry. The buffalo sausage was okay. Other folks had the sirloin steak which was just okay. All-in-all not the best food experience. The staff were warm and friendly. Maybe the burgers are better?

Beautiful views and down home good food in the perfect country atmosphere! Make sure you have a window seat. The views are the most beautiful anywhere! Pasta is good. My husband's trout was perfect he said. We didn't order a steak, but looked like good choices available for meat dishes. A little pricey, but the view is worth it. I emphasize the "view." Oh, and excellent for kids. Our kids had pasta off the kids menu & the portions were plentiful. Very friendly and kind service, too!

My review is mostly about the service at Rim Rock. We showed up starving at 1030 pm after a very long drive... figured they would turn us away (they closed at 10pm)... However the woman welcomed us in and was very friendly. We ordered our pizza to-go but she was just as happy to have us eat in the restaurant. 5 stars for service and friendliness. And the pizza was huge, filling, and pretty darn good.

If there is a big bus in the parking lot, don't bother. Limited menu & beer selection. Good food & service.

Of all the places we tried on our trip to Torrey and Capitol Reef National Park, this one was our favorite. We had steak, chicken and a sampler that included buffalo sausage, quail, and trout. It was all yummy and partnered with some beautiful views. The service was really fantastic.

We came here for diner and I had the blackened steak. My friend had the burger. Everything was excellent from the food to the service. I highly recommend the home made ice cream. The burger was served with giant slabs of bacon. When I saw that and found out they do breakfast we came back for more the next day.

Ate here for both a dinner and a breakfast. The dinner food was disappointing and service was slow. They tried to be too artsy with basic dishes. On the other hand, their breakfast was wonderful and the wait staff was excellent.

Rim Rock was suggested to us by the hotel staff and it did not disappoint. This restaurant has great food and views. I had Utah trout with roasted acorn squash and corn chowder. Everything was delicious! Also the views are spectacular.

Ordered the Chicken BBQ sandwich and ice water. I came with a nice fresh mushroom, mix garden salad with ranch dressing and chips. Good flavor in the BBQ sauce and the chicken was tender and juicy. I shared my meal with my girl and had the brisket bbq sandwich... it was tasty too! yum yum yum.... Note: has TV playing dirt motorsports (w/o volume) oh well... i came for the food cuz i was hungry.

We ate there last year and it was great. Visiting Capitol Reef NP we decided to have dinner there again. Something has defiantly changed...pizza dough was super thick, undercooked, no flavor and to top it off, the cook deposited one of his hairs in the pizza. How did they offer to fix it? 20% off. Really? I have never eaten at a place where they don't take the charge for the item off of your bill. Never again. I also do not approve of the paper plates and plastic utensils.

They had surprisingly good pizza here, and we were extra thankful for that since there was nothing else open in the area. We had a nice warm meal after getting quite cold hiking back to the car after the sun was down. The biggest downside was that it was pretty chilly in there - everyone was eating with their hats still on (in all the parties I saw). Its a limited menu, really aimed at people getting pizza and maybe a salad. They do have some Wasatch Brewery local beers on tap.

Oh my Gosh we had the best meal and the best waitress ever. Bacon blue cheese burger -they cure their own bacon . Fantastic -spicy fries superb and the cole slaw the best ever . Beer on tap only $4 a glass - burger was 15 but came with fantastic generous portions of sides .when around Capitol Reef go there to eat dinner .

Ribs smoked on site and served fresh. Their homemade sauce was interesting as well. It was a little tart like I like it. We had pecan pie and the crust was homemade too. Our waitress suggested warming the pie and serving it with a scoop of ice cream. Really high quality food. The place was filled when we left. So you might want to go early.

The friendly service by both the hostess and waitress were superb. We felt totally welcome and experienced a very pleasant meal. I ordered the fresh Utah trout which was well prepared. Although we had just come off of the trails and were a little disheveled, we were made to feel at home.

Our group stopped here for dinner while on a motorcycle tour of Southern Utah. The staff was very friendly and service was excellent. Thanks to lots of huge windows, most tables enjoy a spectacular view of the surrounding red rockscapes. I ordered the rib eye steak with vegetables and baked potato. The steak was huge and cooked to perfection, as were the veggies and potato. Others had the trout, and were equally impressed. Our group agreed to make this a regular stop when passing through Torrey, Utah!

We ordered their pasta with pesto sauce for dinner it costs $17 and was a complete disaster. The taste was so bad. We couldn't believe they succeded to ruin such a simple dish. The service was soooooo slow - why can't they add some more waiters, it's the memorial day weekend, don't they expect it to be more crowded? My recommendation - to pass the few feets and go to the Rim patio, the food is the same quality, but much much cheaper!

This was the second time in three weeks that my husband and I ate at Rim Rock. The first was with a tour group of 36 people, and we were impressed with the quality of food (three selections) available for such a large group. Everything was freshly prepared, cooked properly, and served efficiently and graciously (unlike many of the other places we ate). Consequently, when we found ourselves back in Torrey, we decided to see how the Rim Rock fared for a regular service. We shared the salsa and chips appetizer - way too much for us, so our waiter brought us containers to save the excess for tomorrow's lunch. We both had steaks, which were cooked exactly as ordered. The sides of mashed potato, linguini, salad, and squash were excellent and ample. We shared a dessert of ice cream, sauces, and cookies. The food, the service, and the ambiance far surpassed any other dining experience we have had in our three weeks in Utah.

Maybe 3 stars for the food, but the view elevates the rating to 4 stars. We had dinner here 2 nights in a row while visiting Capitol Reef NP. The pie was very good, and I believe it was made 'in house', but the waiter said the carrot cake was 'homemade' and that just wasn't true! Stick with the pies! Go for the view, not the food and you'll be satisfied. The spaghetti with meatballs (boulders) was a little spicy for my husband's taste. The "wild game" dinner was okay, but not excellent. We had breakfast here, too, and it was good. I enjoyed the view the first night enough to be happy. But by the following evening we had seen plenty of views, so I wish we had gone next door to the more casual Rim Rock Patio restaurant the second night.

We stayed at the Best Western Capitol Reef across the road and this restaurant had exceeded our expectations. We had the Smoked Brisket BBQ Sandwich and the BBQ Chicken Sandwich. Both were fantastic. The chicken breast and shredded brisket were tender and juicy. The sauce was tangy, but did not overwhelm the natural flavor of the meat. All of the ingredients were very fresh; including our spring green salad with mushrooms. The $8.00 sandwiches came with a salad and chips. Far cheaper than meals charged by our hotel. The service will be a little slow for those who are accustomed to fast food. Since we were on vacation, the food was good and the scenery was nice, we didn't mind the more sedated pace.

After a day of motorcycling through the most beautiful landscapes Utah has to offer, we pulled into a Best Western outside of Torrey. The BW had it's own restaurant, but I noticed a place across the street as well -- The Rimrock. Did a little research and discovered it had been written up by the NY Times and several folks had exclaimed "what's a restaurant of this quality doing in the middle of nowhere?" Indeed! The structure was rustic yet elegant with stunning views of the red rock countryside. The staff was professional and gracious. We ordered steaks. While the steaks weren't the best I've ever had (which I was sort of expecting from the reviews I'd read) they were certainly tasty. Accompanying side dishes were generous -- I had butternut squash and fresh greens. When it came for dessert our server pointed out the vanilla bean cheesecake. This was swoon time, folks. Best cheesecake I've had in years. If you're in Torrey, stop in.

After spending the day, exploring Capitol Reef National Park, there can't be a better place to relax, sit down and reflect on the day's journey. The food was good, the beers were cold and the views were stunning. What more could one ask for in the middle of southern Utah?

On a tour of the area we were delighted to find a fine dining location with a full parking lot in an otherwise empty town. Once over the fear that our dinner would come from a burger joint we were led to a table with a spectacular view; and offered beer wine and spirits (oh yeah!). The food was fabulous! The price was reasonable. Do not pass up the smoked trout appetizer. This restaurant is a true find. It is well worth staying a night in Torrey just to enjoy a meal at this restaurant.

Very disappointing. Not only was our appetizer not as shown on the menu, the prime rib had a brown gravy on it. To make matters worse, our waitress was inexperienced and poor.

It's a place to eat and have your typical american dinner! STEAK! But the best place to sit is by the window. you get a AMAZING views of the red cliffs, and sunset.

My new favorite in Torrey/Capital Reef area. The atmosphere is stunning with great views of the landscape. Everything from Appetizers to Dessert were absolutely delicious. Our waiter was knowledgable and friendly. This place is a must try if you are in the Southern Utah area !! I will be back soon.

Besides the great views and the excellent service from our waiter, the Utah trout and the steak were delicious. Not San Francisco or NYC great but for Utah, a real gem. And you cannot beat the views of the red cliffs at sunset.

Incredible views of Capitol Reef from this restaurant and the food was really good! I had the bleu cheese burger (Yum. Drool.) and my friend had spaghetti and meatballs. We both enjoyed this restaurant very much. Our server was very friendly and have I mentioned the amazing views?

THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE RESTAURANTS EVER. Although I am very boring when it comes to ordering food, I have tried a lot of the dishes here, and ALL of them have been spectacular. There was only one problem. The view was so amazing, I kept on forgetting to eat. This is because they have huge glass windows that look out over some of the most beautiful landscapes I have ever seen. It's like a rainbow, but made out of MOUNTAINS. And it seems to go on forever. Back to the restaurant. The service is speedy (my attention span is a very sad little thing, so speedy service is always appreciated) and everyone is really friendly. There were lots of SMILES. I like it when people smile. It means they're happy. And who WOULDN'T be happy, working in a restaurant as great as that??

Our go-to place for dinner when visiting Capitol Reef. A few months ago we took a pizza to the campsite, last week to our room at their inn just up the hill. Really REALLY good pizza. Very nice people who treat you like an old friend.

The views were incredible, the beer selection good, the food OK and service slow. A word of warning - they added a 17% gratuity to the bill without telling me.

We went to Rim Rock for dinner after a day in the Park. It was after sunset when we were seated, and we really liked the huge glass windows and the view of the rising moon. But once the last ray of sun disappeared we discovered that our charming table by the window was surrounded by darkness! We could not see what's on our plates... The waiter was nice. The food was bad. The cream of tomato was disgusting. The mixed grill lacked flavor: lamb tasted like mutton, trout was bland, and the poor tiny quail was dry. Believe me, the only flavor on my plate were mashed potatoes and the balsamic reduction on the salad greens. I was very disappointed with this $30 dish. Would NOT recommend.

  • Gene P.

The food was terrible - literally not edible. My wife and I each ordered a dinner salad and personal pizza. About 1/3 of the lettuce in both salads was rotten, spoiled. The pizza dough was mostly uncooked so we sent them both back. They came back slightly more cooked, but still only about half-cooked. At this point we told the waitress we were just going to leave (without paying). She apologized, but we still had to leave hungry. My advice is to stay away from this restaurant.
