Wouldn't really recommend going. Upon entering the establishment, there was an odd smell. There were also a lot of unclean tables and the wait for the food was ridiculously long due to the fact that only 4 people work there. When someone finally got around to cleaning the tables, we noticed that the lady who was cleaning up the dirty dishes and spraying down the tables, also was serving dessert. Seems a bit unsanitary. The food was so-so. I had the mahi mahi. It had a nice grilled flavor and most pieces didn't have bones; though the piece that did caught me by surprise. The spinach salad needs to ease up on the vinaigrette and the pineapple smoothie tastes exactly like the coconut smoothie. I will give props to the male employee who was cooking the food like a madman keeping up with the orders. The female employees seemed frazzled and disorganized. I can't imagine going through the drive through waiting. If you want authentic Hawaiian food, buy a plane ticket and go to Hawaii because this place is far from what it should be.

Really awesome food. We always order through the drive-thru. They always honor groupon without giving you any fuss about it.

Soooo good! I had the Kalua Pork and Chicken Katsu and it was DELICIOUS! Will come here again :)

Really good hawaiian food with good variety in their menu. If you haven't tried hawaiian food, this is a great place to start! I had the Ohana plate (with grilled mahi mahi, coconut shrimp, and teriyaki chicken, two scoops of white rice, and salad). I chose the hawiian salad which is amazing! The portions were very filling and well worth the money. Moki's environment is well decorated and clean. I highly recommend this place!

Don't even try to compare this place to L&L! This food is quality. The spinach salad is yummy and fresh, the fish plates are actually good (as we all know, fish is a real barometer for a restaurant), the mac salad is top notch- not too sweet, not too savory. I've never had kalua pig so delicious- the perfect amount of salty/sweet, juicy, not stringy! The chicken teriyaki is awesome, also not too sweet- and there are lots of other little things that just smack of the islands. Even the katsu is good. I have trekked here from afar many times. This is a family place- you can tell. Sometimes your cashier is the one who goes back and cooks your food. I think that's awesome. Hawaiian food is really just a jumble of all the worker cultures that wound up there- so saying you don't like Hawaiian food is like saying you don't like Japanese food, or Filipino food, or American farmer's breakfast food. When it's done right, like at Moki's? Oh, man.

The Teriyaki beef is what dreams are made of. It is a little more expensive then I would like but totally worth it.

My niece and nephew that live here in SLC swear by the loco moco here, which is a bed of rice topped with a hamburger patty, eggs cooked to order (if you don't tell them, it's usually cooked over easy), and smothered with gravy. In this plate, you have the choice of a side. I ordered the spinach salad. The plate also comes with a slice of fresh pineapple. The salad was definitely awesome. What failed in the entree was the gravy was too salty. Otherwise, the platter was great. Last year when I was in town, I had the kalua pork and beef, and that was a lot better. Parking was easy, it's not a busy area, but it is in a good location right off of Redwood Road. Upon leaving, you can beat on the wood drum if you enjoyed the food.

The only reason I give this place a 4 out of 5 is because I think they are over priced. That said, everytime I am home I will make sure that I am sure to stop in and say Aloha! Teriyaki Chicken is my favorite. Don't skip out on the rice sauce.

The thing that separates mokis from other hawaiian grills is the consistant quality of food and the various side options... I'm a sucker for their mac salad with sirracha and the chicken katsu and sauce is the best I've ever had

Best place for island food in SLC

I've never been disappointed in my dining experiences here. It's a walk up counter with about 10 different combo plates, various desserts, drinks, and breakfast dishes to choose from. You can also order a la carte. Favorites so far are the kalua pork and the chicken katsu. All the meats are tender and I've yet to go wrong. Friday nights have a live Hawaiian band playing covers and Hawaiian classics. You can even make requests.

In my opinion this is the best Hawaiian BBQ in town. Even better than L & L. I really like the teriyaki beef and chicken. It is a little bit out of the way in the Murray/Taylorsville area, but worth the drive.

  • J J.

We love the chicken katsu. It is by far the best thing on the menu. I like the food here, but the main drawback is the price. The food is definitely over priced.

Pretty good Polynesian/Hawaiian food. Better than L&L BBQ. Definitely less greasy and better value than L&L. Not a very fancy place. If it your first visit try either the Teriyaki chicken or Teriyaki beef dishes.Pretty tasty.

I just went here for dinner with my boyfriend and it was way below our expectations. We have driven by Moki's for the past year and finally decided to try it. I got the Combo plate with terriyaki chicken and katsu chicken. The terriyaki chicken had a burned taste to it, and hardly had any terriyaki flavor, I found it tasted better after being drowned in thai chili sauce. The katsu chicken was the only descent thing out of both of our meals which is why I gave the review 2 stars. My boyfriend got the Ohana plate which comes with Mahi Mahi, breaded shrimp, and terriyaki chicken. He said the Mahi Mahi tasted like bad fish and it was terrible. He didn't care much for the shrimp either, and also drowned his terriyaki chicken in thai chili sauce. He said the macaroni salad was the only good thing on his plate. I got the Hawiian salad and it was okay but left a very bitter taste in your mouth. Lastly the rice was very bland, just plain old rice. And when we walked in it looked like a 16 non hawiian was cooking our food. not a good sign. and the girl who took our order and another girl working were loudly talking about who was fatter and skinnier......annoying! I will definantly not be going here again. Stick to L & L Hawiian BBQ. Don't even take a chance with this place.

I always leave this amazing place feeling satisfied. The food here is awesome! I love the chicken here, it is so juicy on the inside mmmmm makes my mouth water just thinking about it. I have yet to try other things on the menu but I usually get the number 1 which you can pick your two meats. I end up getting mahi mahi and chicken. The customer service is awesome. Staff are always very welcoming and friendly. Love the atmosphere. I would highly recommend this place!!!

At Moki's for the first time. Place is clean, good environment and friendly staff. The food had good taste and flavor. Tasted fresh. Portions though were a bit on the small side. But overall a good place to eat and a good restaurant. I would recommend. Give them a shot but don't expect to walk out full.

This is probably the best Hawaiian food I have had since I moved from Arizona. The Terriyaki Beef aka bulgogi was very good. The katsu was just okay... The katsu sauce was weird.. like fry sauce. I'm excited to come back and try something else like the kalbi or other selections. Pretty tasty!

Let's cut to the chase and start with the good and.. Not so good. Wow sounds a lot like what I said to my ex before leaving. Ha. Quality of food- on point. The teriyaki chicken had ZERO fat and the right amount of sauce. It was tender and took no effort cutting into it with my plastic knife. Thank you yelpers for recommending the awesome chicken! Chicken Kastu- perfectly crispy and cooked just right. Mokis sauce IS addicting. The best I've had with katsu and if you mix it with sriracha it's the bomb.com Mac salad- compared to other places like Mo Bettas, it was the same. It wasn't runny and wasn't drowning in mayo so that's a plus. Spinach salad- I loved it. The spinach was fresh, the feta cheese crumbles were small enough to not be overbearing and the onions were minced. The dressing was sweet and tangy. I should've ordered an entire bowl. STAFF- I want to commend the staff for their customer service. I wish I could give their service 10 stars. The cashier was friendly, made light conversation and the cooks in the back were waving hello to me and asking how my day was. I enjoy happy people. The only downside is that the portions aren't as generous as Mo Bettas but the quality of food here trumps anywhere else. I'm asking myself the same question- does quality trump quantity; Sure it does but the food was terrific and I wanted more. My first time here, not seeing any garbages I wasn't sure if I should leave my box on the table or bring it up so I asked and the employee and she kindly informed me that she would clean everything. I like how they have sriracha sauce out. The Asian in me was screaming when I saw that bc I love, love sriracha! Nothing to really " complain" about but portions. If they gave a little more I'd be golden.. Like a little girl on xmas. I'm not a fan of Hawaiian food but I'd come back here if I ever had the hunger pains for katsu.

Their small plates are huge. I used to live in Hawaii for about 4 years. When I moved back here I missed the island grindz and searched for a L&Ls but I couldn't find one. What I did find though was this place. It's pretty close to the island grindz I had been missing. Love the katsu, BBQ chicken, Kalua pig and steak. Add a couple scoops of rice and some mac salad and dats da kine! This place always takes me to a better place! Shoooots! Mahalo Mokis!

    (4)
  • Nicole F.

I went in not really expecting much. It looks like a hole-in-the-wall and I never really had the desire to eat here. A friend convinced me, and I got the Teriyaki Beef plate with the Spinach Salad. It was so good, nothing like I expected! I also got the Mokisada which was breathtaking. It was probably the best thing that has ever been in my mouth, and I've had some delicious desserts in my time. Definitely try this place if you haven't!

  • Angela M.

I've gone to this place twice now. Il this time I got the katsu and teriyaki chicken. I love the brown rice and both chicken dishes were amazing. I did not like the Hawaiian salad. It was extremely soggy and not the best tasting salad I've had there. I also don't suggest getting their fries. It was also soggy and I think they left it in the deep fryer for too long. Extremely oily. I gave hem three stars because when I was going to eat the pineapple I found mold growing on it. That's just gross. Don't serve people food with mold growing on it.

A solid 3.5 stars. NOTE: If you find a Groupon ($15 for two entrees and two desserts), Moki's will not honor it. The manager working said it was for two entrees and two fountain drinks and that Groupon messed their ad up... but they've sold over 1,000 of these and haven't changed the ad yet?! If I had to pick any cuisine to eat before I died, it would be the Hawaiian plate lunch. There's nothing on it that is good for you, and everything is utterly indulgent and delicious. So I had to come here and get a Hawaiian food fix! Aside from the hiccup with the Groupon, food here is pretty good. We got two combo plates that had teri beef, kalbi ribs, kalua pork, and chicken katsu. We had about ten minutes of pure quiet as we were stuffing our faces. - Teri beef- it's not like what I've had in Hawaii. It's more like small pieces of chopped beef instead of whole slices. Taste is pretty good, but lots of pieces of fat. - Kalbi ribs- great marinade, but the amount of fat on these is a little absurd for even a Hawaiian queen! They were sizzling fresh though. - Kalua pork- nothing out of the ordinary - Chicken katsu- ohhhh man. This... was... bone... dry. Didn't come with any sauce on top either, and couldn't find any on the counter! Really don't recommend this. - Mac salad- I don't normally like mac salad, but I polished the scoop off with the rice and meats. Must have been good! - Hawaiian salad- I'm so confused on what is Hawaiian about this lololloll!!! My friend really enjoyed it though and loved the dressing they used. - Coconut mango smoothie- carries a hefty $5.95 price tag, but my friend pulled every sip out of his straw until his eyes were bulging from the strain. All in all, a great island food fix in SLC. Looks like they have a great buffet deal running Friday evenings, too.

Enjoyable food, clean interior, friendly service. Hard to read the menu because of the surf board hanging directly in front of it (no thought into the layout of the signage). Good if you're in the area and looking for something, or craving this stuff, but nothing outstanding or amazing.

  • Erik D.

I ordered the 2 Meat Combo today. I got the Kalua Pork, Chicken Katsu, rice, and mac salad. It definitely made me feel like I was back on Maui. The food here is less greasy, but I like that! Large portions, just like I would expect from the hole-in-the-wall eateries on the islands. Very impressed! I'm from California, and I wish this was back home with me!

    (5)
  • Drew H.

I love the food here. Real authentic Hawaiian food, it made me feel like I was back in the islands. So much food on the combo plate I couldn't eat it all, but it was delish! Defiantly coming here again!

The staff always greets you with an aloha. The food is good and is served quick. I have been there a few times. The portions are not as large as some other places, but is good for the price.

  • Steven S.

I have been here 3 times! Love it! Kalua pork is very good, I add their rice sauce to it. Teriyaki chicken is sweet, grilled, tender chicken goodness. Katsu chicken and accompanying sauce is recommended! Between my wife and me, our combos leave more than enough to share with the 2 year old. Son likes macaroni salad... me too. Can't think of what they're called, but the Hawaiian donuts are good for a sweet tooth craving! Fluffy, sweet, sugar dabbed Hawaiian wonder! They have specialty fruit drinks (non alcoholic) that are very good! ... If you like pina colada...and other sweet flavors. Still dying to do their once a month all you can eat buffet! It's once a month the third Thursday? Or was it third Friday?

  • Koko K.

Service is amazing, however the quality of the food and the prices aren't. I also don't understand why a 13 dollar entree (cocunut shrimp) doesn't come with a drink and I had to pay 2 dollars extra for it. 16 dollars for my meal right there. Been here a couple times, I don't know why because I'm always disappointed so I guess that's my fault. However im Polynesian myself and this food is nothing to pay more than 7 dollars for. Also the food portions are incredibly small, it's not worth the money.

This review is for their Buffet/Luau (3rd Friday of the month). I ate here with a friend a few months back and they were packed. Despite the crowd and limited seating, we enjoyed their food and live music. They have amazing bbq ribs (thin cut, korean style), chicken katsu, macaroni salad, and bbq chicken. The staff was very friendly and hospitable to their customers. Me and my friend actually ended up chatting with them afterwards. This is an awesome place to get your hawaiian bbq fix.

Expensive for the small portion. Not really worth it. Their musubi was disgusting, no flavor and too much rice.

  • Brenna D.

Having never been here, I turned to yelp for suggestions on what to order. Based on what I read, I ordered chicken katsu and the pork. The Katsu was disappointing, as it was just breaded chicken with a sauce that is very similar to fry sauce. I was with a big group so I was able to try other dishes. I preferred the chicken teriyaki but the beef teriyaki was the best. Everyone at the table agreed. The macaroni salad was standard, but I tried someone else's spinach salad and it was awesome! The service was okay for the rest of my group. Each dish came out one at a time. After a while, I was the only one without food. By this time, a steady stream of customers had come and the waitress/cashier was busy. I never had my food brought to me. By the time we were done and leaving (about 45 minutes) we finally asked for my food to be put into a to-go container because we couldn't wait any longer. The cashier/waitress had come to check my order with me twice, so as far as we knew, my food was on its way. But as she was busy taking other orders, it was hard to insert ourselves to ask for my food. I'll go back. But next time I will get the teriyaki beef and will use the drive thru.

Chicken katsu is great. I wish it was seasoned a bit in some way so you wouldn't have to be to sauce dependent. The crisp and quality on this chicken is amazing. Please excuse my Asian but I do feel like the rice amount is a little inadequate. I love the rendition of island versions of songs I am familiar with!

    (4)
  • Robin A.

Mokis is as good as it gets for not being on the island, I'm a fan of just about anything on the menu, I usually get a mix plate with teriyaki chicken and steak with a side of mac salad (theirs is by far the best around town) the grandma's cake is to dye for sometimes when I'm in the area I come solely just for the cake. The staff is very friendly and service is always good.

We had a great dinner here a few nights ago. We went as a family (4 kids under 12 yrs old) and everyone loved it. The younger kids loved the teriyaki chicken and actually wanted to order another one. My son got the garlic shrimp, which was very good. My wife got the kalua pork and it was nicely done. I ordered the laulau, which was amazing, but I wish it was more of a main dish, but they only prepare it as a side. The kids ordered shaved ice, which they prepared for them even in the dead of winter. They were a little slow on bring the shaved ice, so they gave us some chocolate macadamia nut cake on the house, which was absolutely amazing. It's been a few days, but the kids are still talking about Moki's. I'm sure we'll be going back soon.

Best plate lunch on the mainland. This place is incredibly good. As for the restaurant itself, the decor and atmosphere are exactly what you'd expect from a legit Hawaiian BBQ joint: Kitsch decor and a very local vibe. I'll be coming back here a lot.

  • Mary S.

This place is the real deal at good prices. We have been on the lookout for authentic Hawaiian food and would happily drive nightly from Park City to this gem. It's kind of a hole in the wall location in a strip mall but it's warm and inviting and a little crowded and noisy (but good noisy) on the night we visited. Let's just say when you walk in you'll immediately know you'll want to sit down, stay awhile and eat! You can also take-out. We ordered the Ohana Plate, Kalua plate, and pretty much every side. This is not the place to over worry about eating healthy -though you could make better food choices than I did - or about portion sizes(I thought they were generous) - though I guess you could share something. But you won't want to. Enjoy

I ordered the two meat plate and loved it! The chicken was breaded and fried but not dried out at all. The marinated beef was very tender and tasty. The drive thru made it very convenient. I'll be back for sure

This is another one I've driven past, literally for years and the few times I was going to stop in, it wasn't open, for one reason or another. Today, I finally made it in, since I made it a point to get in there, while I was in the area, to try the musubi, which I failed to do at Aloha Grindz earlier. The musubi was well worth getting, sort of a sushi spam log that was interesting and one of those sort of things you're happy you tried, but might not necessarily be in a hurry to ever get to again. I also had the sticky chicken, if I recall correctly, largely on the advice of the very, very friendly counter girl, who, aside from the musubi, chose most of what I was eating for me. The chicken was ok, the rice good, the salad, though unique, was mostly just ok to me. The decor is all kinds of awesome, combining beach stuff with Hawaiian decor. Tables could have been cleaner, as mine was a bit sticky, but not enough overall to be too bothersome. Likewise drink selection could have been better. This also was apparently "make to order", so it wasn't exactly fast, either, but a reasonable speed. I'd probably come here again to see if something stands out more next time, but this visit, while mostly enjoyable, was not much more than reasonably pleasant, mostly because this place badly needs to upgrade it's circulation system, unless they're trying to replicate the somewhat humid and warm conditions of Hawaii. If they are doing this on purpose, they should stop. That facet alone made this not a place I wanted to spend a ton of time with and by the end, I was more than ready to get.

Great variety, excellent customer service and quick service. Best Polynesian cuisine I've had in the Salt Lake valley. Had the teriyaki beef plate with brown rice and spinach salad. Excited to try more authentic Polynesian dishes on the menu (was in a rush and wanted to go with something safe sine it was my first time). Staff was friendly and the food came out quick, but not suspiciously quick. Would recommend.

I have passed this place a hundred times and today, just had to stop. I was greeted with an aloha on entering. The interior was adequate with Hawaiian decorations. I was going to take out anyway. I ordered the Two Meat plate because I couldn't decide what to get. The Teriyaki chicken had that grilled taste you only get at BBQs. The Kalua pork was moist and smokey. I will come here again, this time to get the Chicken Katsu and the Laulau. They have Friday luaus and live entertainment. One day.... Give this place a try if you're looking for some good Hawaiian food. Ono delicious!

I know there's a big Hawaiian population in Utah so I figured that I try some Hawaiian on this trip. When I walked into Moki's I was welcomed with a big ALOHA from the staff which was nice. Not everyday you get that, it made me smile and almost laugh I don't know why. I must have been the first person of the day. Moki's is a little different kind of Hawaiian food than I'm use to. It is healthier which seems like a good thing but I don't know about that. The food wasn't bad but just missing something for me, maybe the grease and unhealthiness that you get in typical Hawaiian plate lunch restaurants. I went with the Ohana plate, under $10, which was again different than usual. The mahi mahi was grilled with light seasoning which was different from the typical battered mahi mahi everyone does. I liked that it was grilled, healthier, and it's own natural flavors but maybe a little more seasoning could have made it great. For trying to be healthier I had to dump all the tartar sauce on the mahi mahi. The chicken was grilled with also very light seasoning it was OK, kind of dry. The rice was topped with sesame seeds and there was some fried shrimps and piece of pineapple. The mac salad wasn't the best I've had but good enough. Overall the plate was OK but would I try it again probably not, I'll order another plate. They do have a variety of plate lunches like kalua pork, chicken katsu, teriyaki beef, etc I'm use to seeing but with my experience with the plate I had I would be thinking these plates would be healthier and under season to my liking, I'm guessing. I haven't tried them so I can review them. They also have manapua and the rest you'd see at L&L. I like the decoration, the large dining area, the awards on the wall, the catering, and the friendliness. Food OK

This is good stuff. I always get carry out and I usually just call in my order on my way. The staff is always friendly and the food is always good. My favorite meal is the Chicken Katsu. Order the spinach salad. That's some good food. Now that L&L is closed this is the place to eat.

I'm so torn about this place. On one hand, the food in undeniably good. However, I purchased a Groupon and as soon as the girl at the register yelled to the cook, "GROUPON" I knew what was about to transpire. Man, I absolutely HATE when places rip you off by cutting your portions when you use a Groupon. I cannot fathom how restaurants can justify this as anything other than straight up ripping off their patrons. People that could/would be loyal customers, such as my family, just cannot, out of principle, come back to places that do this. Sorry, Moki but you should have your Groupon privileges revoked. I literally had to give my husband some of my meal b/c he hardly got any food and with so many reviews raving about the giant portion sizes, I don't think it's a coincidence that the lack of food coincided with the use of a Groupon. So, PROS - the food is good CONS - you get, what I would assume is half the portion, when you use the Groupon that got you in the door in the first place. Sorry, Moki but I'll use my hard-earned money on an honest establishment.

I guess you could say my favorite Hawaiian joint is Moki's. The only thing that would make this place better is bone-in chicken. I always get the two meat plate with kal-bi and teriyaki chicken. But tonight instead of the spinach salad I got the Hawaiian salad. Not as good as the spinach salad, but it was ok. What I failed to order was the gooey chocolate caramel cake. Maybe next time.

Just coming from Oahu I can safely say this place is legit!! All meats were great and the salads were surprisingly good! Teri chicken and beef were probably the best.

and a 1/2. I like this place. Hawaiian cooks, very friendly employees in Hawaiian dresses. Walk up counter to order from a variety of dishes. I got the Ohana combo and husband got the Mahi Mahi ... both good. Choice of 4 small salads and brown or white rice. Buffet every 3 Friday of the month with entertainment. Shaved ice and smoothies, too. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable. Can't wait to go back!

I went back on the Luau/Buffet night and there is no doubt in my mind that this is a 5 star worthy experience. I love it even more than I did before. The buffet was well worth what we paid for it and it was better than any buffet I have had before with not so much food that they can't keep it fresh but just enough food that there is great variety. The buffet is an experience, not just for the food, but for the laid back musical entertainment.

Moki's is probably my little slice of sunshine. The food is great, I love the feeling of I could possibly be on an island in Hawaii. Not to mention there staff are just so happy. It's my get away from life's worries and day to day stress. I may not have enough to travel to Hawaii but I have enough to visit Moki's. You never leave there unsatisfied. Keep doing what you are doing because it's working.

Mokis is one of my favorite places to eat. The Kalbi beef is amazing. I would give this place 5 stars if it was just based on food. The problem is that the customer service is going downhill.

I'm so homesick for Hawaii I could die. I almost teared up when we walked in and got a resounding, "Aloha!" from the girl at the order counter. I've been bit by the island bug lately, and needed ahaaina - a good dose of the local aloha! This wasn't our first visit to Moki's, but it had been awhile. The first few times were a bit of a letdown, but it had been a couple of years, so we thought we'd give it another shot. I had checked out their online menu ahead of our visit, so I would have my order in mind. The order girl mentioned several times that the online menu is "way off," and many (including me) were thwarted from the original plan. Seems to me that it'd be much easier to amend your online menu than have to explain it to every other customer. But, whatever. Both Hubby and I ordered a mixed plate - him, the garlic shrimp, and me, the Combo plate (kalua pork & chicken katsu), both with brown rice, the spinach side salad, and a dessert drink. Hubby wasn't thrilled with his garlic shrimp, but I believe that's my fault. See, thanks to me figuring out how to make Shrimp Station's (Kauai) garlic shrimp (the best in the world), he's spoiled and hard to please when it comes to shrimp. My kalua pork and katsu were fantastic. I downed them in no time. The katsu came with a tiny container of dipping sauce - I could have used more of that. The kalua pig was tender and flavorful and needed nothing more than to be In. My. Belly. We both loved their spinach salad side (really tasty poppyseed vinaigrette dressing!), and brown rice option! They've obviously encorporated suggestions from their patrons into their menu. My pineapple coconut shake was creamy and absolutely delicious. Hubby's mango smoothie was good, too, but brain-freeze was kicking his ass, so he generously gave the rest to me. I mixed the remainder into my shake and enjoyed a custom pineapple coconut mango shake-smoothie on the road. It was wonderful, and I almost asked him to drive back there so I could order another of each. But I was way too full by then. Service interaction and requirements here are minimal - you place your order at the front upon entry. Then find your seat at one of the tables up front, or booths in the back, and wait for delivery. Your issued number indicates where to bring it. We got our food pretty fast. But I saw a few others waiting a while for theirs. Ah well, you're on island time when you're at Moki's! Relax and enjoy not being in such a rush for a change! The owner/manager - a very friendly woman - came by to chat for a moment as she made her rounds. She mentioned that they have a luau every third Friday of the month and invited us back. If it weren't for the thirsty dry throat I'm still having today brought on by the inevitable salt content of Hawaiian food, I'd be tempted. Be warned - have a gallon or so of drinking water on hand for your ride home. Overall, a really nice experience with lots of "Mahalo!" and "Aloha!" throughout. I loved it, and can't wait to make this a monthly ritual.

Such a warm happy place. Aloha spirit and plate lunch in Utah!

Went through the drive thru. The wait was bad and we were the only ones there! When we finally got our food the meat was cold and tasted old. We got the tossed salad and it was yellow and wilted. I hope it was just an off day for them. But I won't be coming back until they get it together.

We stopped through on the way home from a business trip. I wasn't super excited about stopping in just because the place wasn't overly appealing from the outside. Now I know that's a bit superficial. I don't deny it. We went in and the atmosphere was great. It was late afternoon/early evening and the place was pretty empty. After ordering our food, I got on my phone and checked to see what other Yelpers rated this place. I've got to say that its spot on. This is a definite 4-star eatery. I really enjoyed my sticky chicken. I would go out of my way to stop in again on the way home to Denver. Everyone was really friendly and I could tell that the owners cared about their employees. Unfortunately for one of my co-workers, he got a really obvious long black hair in his food. Hey, that stuff happens. The apologies were profuse, and an entire new plate was made for him. Like I said, it happens. The situation couldn't have been handled better than it was. Therefore, i can't find any fault with it. Great place to stop in and enjoy!!!

E komo mai, e noho mai, e `ai a e, wala`au! We live nearby Moki's Hawaiian Grill in Taylorsville and have drive by it many times. I've wanted to try Moki's for awhile now and so we finally stopped in the other night. Inside the restaurant has a Hawaiian island theme, kind of like a tiki bar. There are decorations and souvenirs throughout related to Hawaii and the Polynesian Islands. My wife ordered the Ohana Plate which consisted of terrayaki chicken, mahi mahi, and coconut shrimp was good my wife said. I had the terrayaki chicken plate with a Hawaiian salad. The chicken was tender and had a good, rich flavor. The Hawaiian salad was fine and it was good to try something new -- but it wasn't really my kind of dish. Both meals were served with a fresh slice of pineapple which was delicious! Along with our meal we had a mango, pineapple, coconut drink. Although there was a TON of pulp in the drink it tasted really good. About the only issue or compliant I would raise is that our food was unfortunately not served hot. That was really disappointing because it seemed like everything was cooked fresh and made to order. I don't know if our food sat out for awhile waiting for something else to be finished or if it sat waiting to be delivered to our table. Whatever the case, it was not hot, which bugged me. Overall I was pretty happy with my visit time at Moki's Hawaiian Grill and I would like to go back there and try the other items on their menu. A hui kaua!

Sticky Hawaiian Chicken... I think that was the name of the dish and it was an awesome choice. Hot, sticky well seasoned chunks of chicken, rice, mac salad and dinner was served. The portions were pretty good... way more rice than I could eat. The mac salad was kinda heavy on the mayo, but otherwise did have good flavor. Very welcoming employee at the cashier stand made some nice small talk while I waited for my dish. Typical decor of a place that wants to make you think you out in the islands, even if its 20 degrees as it was when I visited. They have a seating area that has a very large TV for the sports enthusiast as well as a quieter perhaps more quaint alcove area. In case you are trying to find the restaurant during heavy Redwood Road traffic, it is in the True Value shopping center which thankfully has a traffic light to get you in and out..

Poor service and the food was mediocre at best. This was my first visit to Moaki's and most likely my last. To start, I waited literally 5 mins at the counter before 1 of the 2 employees stepped away from the shaved ice machine to tend to me. The cashier asked me what I wanted and I proceeded to place my order. About 3/4 through giving my order, the cashier rudely starts engaging in conversation with another customer behind me. I stop ordering until he's ready to pay attention. I placed my order to go and proceeded to wait for my order. Within 3 mins my order was ready. I find it hard to believe my order was fresh or "made to order" at that rate. While I was happy to get out of there, the chicken was dry, most of my beef was burnt and the overall meal was disappointing. If you're looking for good Hawaiian food AND quality service, go elsewhere!

We were in Salt Lake City for spring break and found Moki's through Groupon. We loved it! I had the Chicken Katsu and loved the dipping sauce. It came with macaroni salad, which was amazing, rice and the best pineapple I have had outside of Hawaii. My husband had the orange chicken, which he liked, the macaroni salad (which I ate!) and the rice and pineapple. We had heard about the macademia nut cake and ordered a piece to go, which we shared. Just a note, that comes with ice cream, so ordering it to go is not such a great idea, but the cake WAS delicious! The atmosphere is very kitchy and fun. You order at the counter then have a seat and wait for you delicious food to arrive.

Wow Laulau! Wish I had more than one visit to this place to try more of their menu but I loved what I did get to try. Ahi poke tasted fresh, Katsu was delicious the Kalua pig was Ono and da Laulau was heavenly! Loved the Hawaiian music playing and the server and cook were the nicest people! Laid back atmosphere and great value for your buck. Telling all my friends and family to check out this place if they ever stop in Utah! Mahalo Moki's Hawaiian Grill for a great experience !

Whenever we visit Utah we go to Moki's. The best item they have is Otai and is one of the only restaurants in the area that always serve it. The food and atmosphere are great as well.

Great service. Laid back, clean facility. Delicious Food. I ordered kalua pork with rice & spinach salad. The salad had poppyseed dressing. The kalua pork was delicious. it had small shreds of cabbage & a wedge of pineapple. I also got the chicken katsu, which was wonderful. Hawaiian restaurants are known for being relaxed, unpretentious, and seat-yourself. This was no different. tables made from surfboards. Decor was fishnet, shells and license plates from hawaii; exactly as expected. The food exceeded my expectations.

My husband and I love moki's. We discovered it with a deal online and tried it out. We have been back many times since and love it more every time. Their teriyaki chicken is amazing and so is the chicken katsu. The macaroni salad is the best I have ever had and the grandma's chocolate cake is to die for. Seriously, it is dangerous. You won't regret eating here, it's the best Hawaiian we have ever had.

I got the sweet and sour chicken and LOVED IT. My boyfriend got some kind of breaded chicken (I honestly can't remember what it was called) with some orangish dipping sauce and it was also good! It came with rice and a salad. The salad was fine.... nothing special as far as salads go (I got the mixed green). The rice was super dry and had no flavor. Not good. Definitely left most of it on the plate. We got a shaved ice to share - strawberry and watermelon with coconut milk and icecream. It cost $5 and it honestly wasn't worth it... The watermelon has hardly any flavor, and the rest of it was just ok... The tables all looked wet... we wiped the one we were sitting with off with napkins and then it was sticky... Yuck. The girl who took our order was very helpful.

Pro's: Teriyaki chicken was juicy and tender, Malasadas (fried donuts) were perfectly fried and not too greasy, Delicious Coconut Pineapple ice cream, Loved the tangy and refreshing Hawaiian salad, friendly service Con's: Brown rice was a bit too dry, Teriyaki beef was also dry and jerky-like, Kahlua pork was bland, but very moist

I absolutely love their chicken katsu with the katsu sauce and their teriyaki beef. They also have the best macaroni salad around. I have debated just asking to buy it by the pint! To top it all off the grandmas macadamia nut cake is blinking amazing. You won't regret stopping in. We never do!

awesome food. good portions. great service. Best way to go the first time is definitely getting the combo. That way you can try 2 of their best items. I had the chicken katsu and teriyaki beef with brown rice and macaroni salad. Everything was delicious, the meats, the rice, the sauces - good deal too. Loved everything about it, except for when the girl was mopping the floors while we were eating... the smell of the cleaning supplies was overwhelming at times and took away part of the nice experience in the restaurant. Amateur mistake I'm sure, that's why I wasn't too bothered by it.

If they sold Kalua pork by the gallon, I would buy it. Their macaroni salad is also dangerously delicious! My husband and I LOVE this place (especially their luau Friday's--all you can eat buffet and entertainment for $12)! However, last time we went there was a girl with red-dyed tips working that appeared not to be aware of what was going on (or care much). There was a table that complained it had been over an hour before they got their shakes, meanwhile, she appeared to be having some sort of water fight with the guy in the kitchen?? She was texting UP FRONT as customers were waiting to order. Also, did not clean off our plates when she brought is dessert...just, generally clueless. HOWEVER, every time before that the service has been excellent (I guess they might want to reconsider/retrain that particular employee). The staff has been SUPER friendly and anxious to please/help. Overall I love going there :)

I have been coming to Moki's since I was a little girl and I still look forward to going there any chance I get. The people are all great and the food has stayed wonderful throughout the years! I wish I lived closer so I could go there more but it it worth the trip!! Great place to eat!! P.S. The guava ice cream is TO DIE FOR!

Good, not great. Moki sauce is good. I got Kalua pork and teriyaki chicken. It was pretty "meh" until I added the sauce and Sri racha. Not sure I will return.

They have Moco Loco! What more can you ask for? Authentic. Friendly service. Great prices! This is the only place I go to get some Hawaiian comfort food! You will not be disappointed!

Drove by this location and stopped because they offer snow cones. My review is based on their snow cones and drive through experience. We were the only car in line and service was slow. Snow cones come in awkward plastic flower bowl that was messy. Flavor options were good but overall quality was ok. Thought price was a lot. Wouldn't recommend or return.

I really like this place. They've got some of the best kalua pork and katsu chicken in town, and the best thing is, you can get both by simply ordering the combo plate. Add either the spinach salad or hawaiian salad - included with the combo - and you've got one tasty meal. Although the teriyaki meats (chicken or beef) are good, I don't think they come close to the kalua or katsu. Even the rice is tasty as they add some kind a salt to it that gives it a really nice flavor. One more note, the cabbage that comes under the pork is absolutely to die for. I always leave that for my last bite as it's so tasty. Again, love this place!

This place was great! It is just like the best mixed-plate place we found and ate at constantly on Maui. The feel of the place even reminds me of Maui. Laid back and casual. To really recapture my Hawaiian experience i went with the Loco Moco and its was wonderful. The Patty was nice and charred, the rice and gravy were delicious but the egg was hard cooked. Next time ill ask for over easy. The real winner though was the pork my wife got. It was even better then the pork we got in Hawaii! We will be back many times to Moki's

We were pleasantly surprised with this place. While we like Matiki down in Orem, the decor and ambiance is pretty cheesy and "sticky", as in you stick to everything: the tables, the seats, the condiments. At Moki's, it has a chill Hawaiian vibe versus Matiki who throws plastic leis on everything and calls it a day. As soon as you walk in the door, you are greeted with a cheerful Aloha and smiling faces. We got the combo meat with teriyaki chicken, beef and a spinach salad, and the kalbi ribs plate with mac salad. The beef was tender and not overcooked and the chicken was juicy and not fatty at all. My husband liked that you can get different salads other then mac as a side. The mac salad was decent, a little sweet though, as if they used a different mayo then Best Foods, which would be blasphemous. The kalbi ribs were cooked perfect and cut thin enough that the fat on them wasn't overwhelming. You can really tell they use a better quality of meat then other Hawaiian joints we have been to. We got the chocolate macadamia cake with ice cream for dessert (ice cream was on the house because they forgot to bring it out to us and we had to ask about it), and it was good but def. not what we were expecting. The texture of the cake was more like a steamed pudding, but satisfied my sweet tooth and went great with the coconut ice cream. My toddler loved hitting the drum on the way out and having everyone cheer and thank us for coming in. Certain times of the month they have live music or things like fire dancers, I'd love to come back to check that out.

Stopped in today for my first time at lunch. Chicken Kutsu was pretty good but that Kalua pork was outstanding! Had it with some sticky rice and soy sauce. That will keep me coming back.

Compared to the other place in the S valley starting with an L. This place shines. We reluctantly went to try on a Groupon after being disappointed by the "L" place and found this place to be a real treat. We will be regulars. Nice menu selections on real plates instead of foam boxes. The food was as ample as you would expect a polynesian place to be. Two thumbs up from me and my wife! Do you know how hard it is to get a thumbs up from my wife? music was a tad loud and tables could be a bit less sticky.

Good food like most similar Hawaiian BBQs, but if you're expecting portions like Mo Bettahs or L&L you're likely to be disappointed.

I did not like this place at all, but that's because I don't care much for Hawaiian food. I had lunch at Moki's with a couple of Haoles, who were raised in Hawaii. They were crazy for this stuff and they both swore that Moki's was like going back to the Islands. The food is very authentic and extremely high quality, which explains my 4-star rating. If you love Hawaiian food, you've found the best in the Salt Lake Valley... I guess.

  • Rick H.

Warm sand and the smell of coconut suntan oil is about all that is missing here! If you haven't tried Moki's kalua pig, all I can say is "Why!?!" You won't find better anywhere--and that includes my Hawaiian neighbor's house! It's that good! Portions are big, so if you're a haole like me, you may want to stick to the keike plates.

This place was good, the food was cooked very well and the presentation was awesome. I don't think I've seen a more neatly plated hawaiian style plate lunch. And it's the first place of it's kind that I've seen here with a drive-thru, pretty awesome. My problem was 1. I order chicken katsu and didn't get any katsu sauce and 2. The portions were a little small when compared with L&L and Mo' Bettah Steaks. Other than that it is a good place, I love that they have Otai! Mmmhmmm! If you haven't tried it, I would definitely recommended going over and giving it a try, it's worth the price. Also, they have a lot of variety when it comes to island food which I really found enjoyable.

First off you walk in and it was actuall Polynesian people working there- good first sign. Lady in the kitchen started to make small chat- very friendly staff :) Clean tables and washrooms- good check here too :) I am from Vancouver and before a trip down i found Moki's on groupon- perfect opportunity for my friend and I to try somewhere new (she had never been either) appies- teryaki chicken: perfectly cooked chicken, moist and sauce was not overly sweet up the perfect taste you would expect for teryaki. appie costs 6.99 and this dish had 8 chicken pieces (like thighs) really good price i thought and a huge appie! kal-bee ribs: OMG to die for: i could have eaten like 12 of these LOL. sauce was incredable and meat was juicy. appie cost: 6.99 and this dish had 6 strips of ribs on it, really good price again. mains: garlic shrimp: we both had shrimp/brown rice and hawaiian salad. 12, yes i said 12 shrimp on each dish (wow i thought that was generous) and heaping mound of brown rice cooked really nicely. i wasnt a huge fan of the salad (cabbage, azn noodles, chicken etc) but i think was meant as a light salad. complete with a pineapple wedge :) main cost: 10.95 each- for amount of shrimp i was pleasently surprized :) dessert: mango shake: omg yum, tasted like fresh hawaiian love!! def go back for this chocolate mac cake: omg sweet, chocolate, nuts, mositness with icecream and whip- def want this again!! desserts- 3.99 each good sizing and quality! i wish i could go back here more often!!! but i know my friend who lives in slc will be back!! and i will be recommending this to anyone i know who goes to slc!!! cant wait to go back!! do you guys fed ex??? ;)

Stopped by Moki's because our GPS found it. I had the Ohana plate (chicken teryaki and mahi-mahi with brown rice, and choice of side salad - I picked the Hawaiian). I loved this place. The music was cool and relaxing. The food was better than good. The staff was wonderfully friendly. My husband had the ribs. They were delightfully tender with a sweet, smoky flavor. The Hawaiian Salad was a cole slaw dish with the little crunchy noodles in it with sort of a sweet Hawaiian sauce. Very good stuff. Apparently, they have Luau Friday, all you can eat buffet and entertainment for $12. I plan to go to one of those. Good stuff here.

I'm confused about the good ratings this place received. Yes, they do have quite a variety and lots of side dishes. However, the "teriyaki" chicken was very dry and tasteless, it didn't appear to have much of anything on it. The sweet potato was also extremely dry; the skin was hard and partially burnt. My boyfriend said his food was also dry and bland. To top it off, shortly after we left he developed really bad food poisoning. I will applaud them for the delicious Maui Mango Smoothie though. Will never go back.

Great service, low key atmosphere Order the mahi-mahi platter-- it was delicious! Freshly made malasadas are pretty good too but not nearly as good as the ones from Leonard's bakery in the aloha state. Hawaiian salad was solid as well. I definitely liked the little crunch of instant ramen noodles they sprinkled on there

Food portion in kalbi plate was disappointing and a little burnt, loco moco was a big helping if food, I still prefer L&L. The plates are bigger and worth the price.
