Robert Redford's resort is teaming with young, earnest 'yuppies' as my boyfriend calls them, all hastening their step to make sure you enjoy your stay. The Tree Room restaurant was a pleasant experience overall - with a nice ambiance (Redford's personal collections of American Indian art - but not overdone,) earnest but uninformed service (served the wrong brand of bourbon without telling David until questioned, didn't know where the fish came from, etc,) and a really nice wine list. This place is pricey, as is the other dining room option on site, but you have to drive 15 minutes to get off of the resort to find other options. The food preparation was upscale American...lovely and tasty!
Ok, so this is my kind of place. Small, intimate with Santa Fe southwestern decor and a tree growing up through the roof. And even better, the food is excellent. Once again, the customer service is what always sticks out as the real success of any good restaurant. If the service is bad and the food is great, you still won't go back. Bad service is bad service. If the service is good and the food is just so-so, you will probably give it another try. Well, with this place there is no need to fret, both service & food are excellent. Somebody has done their training and listened to what constitutes a good business model. Even the coffee is excellent - - which doesn't happen often in Utah. This place is not just a restaurant, but a destination. And who knows, you might be lucky enough to be there on a day that Mr. Redford decides to eat out.
Attended the Krug winemaker dinner. Peter Mondavi was personable and educational and the wine pairings were great. All courses were conceptually sound and taste good but the execution was off. The timing may have been messed up by the late arriving crowd but the rabbit dish and the Wagu beef were both barely warm when served and the rabbit was overcooked. Service was less than stellar as I was skipped on 2 of the courses and had to wave down a server to get my food.

We received a $50 gift certificate from a friend and were excited to go for dinner at the Sundance resort. The beauty that surrounds the restaurant was quickly muted in what was an overpriced, lousy meal. My wife ordered the rib eye for around $35 that was tough and had zero flavor, to top it off it was served with instant potatoes that melted and were running into the meat. My chicken was very weak and seriously we could've gotten more pleasure from a fast food meal somewhere. The bill was around $70 and thank heavens we had a $50 gift certificate. I was embarrassed for them on how lousy the meal was, I would never go back. Mr. Redford should spare a little time from his anti global warming efforts and work on a menu redo!
I had dinner here in a group of 12 this week. They seated us on our own room, which gave us a very personal feel. The service was excellent and the ambiance was really quite lovely. Rustic and warm with fireplaces everywhere... I could imagine coming in the winter to warm up and have a great meal. This place is very relaxing; we had a 3.5 hour dining experience. The roasted chicken was tender and flavorful, while the quinoa salad must have been cooked in chicken stock because it had such a rich flavor. We shared at the table, something we call "collaborative eating" and every type of vegetable I tasted was perfectly cooked! Asparagus, snap peas and broccolini were great! The wines that were chosen were very nice. I particularly liked the Road 31 Wine CO. Pinot... luscious! Warm peach cobbler, with vanilla ice cream was really killer, however, since I have a serious addiction to ice cream, the bowl of plain ice cream was actually my favorite. I also tasted the chocolate tart... worth skipping, very bland. Overall, highly recommended, get the local stuff!
went back for 2nd round. last night we ate at the owl but food from foundry. at lunch we went there and ate: ruben sandwich. my friend didn't finish the food. so I assume the ruben wasn't that good. I had the pasta Seafood Pappardelle. it was great. I love the sauce and the pasta cook to perfection. Grilled Chicken Cordon Bleu Sandwich looks so dry, but my other friends likes it. the place is much nicer than the owl, but if you want to relax and listen to music, I think the owl is more casual and the foundry is more romantic. The service was bad. because she never showed up after took the order and only shows up to give us the check.
