We were driving through Utah for 3 hours and needed a place to refuel and rest. We were craving some Mexican food. The GPS lead us to Mi Rancherito Mexican Restaurant. The grocery store/butcher shop/ restaurant atmosphere reminded us of the local taco shops in So Cal. I was interested in some Carne Asada tacos. I was surprised when the plate arrived. It was just tortillas and meat. I went to the condiment bar and threw in the onions and cilantro. I was surprised to find Avocado Salsa. I prefer a thicker consistency but the heat was spot on. The meat was moist and tender. I almost finished the taco before I could photograph it. (see photo) It may not be fine dining, but I would prefer supporting your local shops run by tio and tia (uncles and aunts)/mom and pops. Thank you for your time, LB.

My chimichanga was good, but the service wasn't great and the cheese enchildas weren't good at all. Also there was a ton of flies in the restaurant which made me question how clean it was. I wouldnt eat here again.

Love this place. Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant ever. I can't say everything there is delicious because I get the same thing every time: beef and bean burrito with rice and beans on the side with a couple of sangritas. Aawww yeah.. I'm drooling just thinking about it. Yeah... I'm going there for lunch. Just eat here. Just do it!!!

This is the the busiest place in town. We come here once or twice a week to get our fix. I don't understand the lack luster yelp star rating. The reality is that this place is great!! Awesome affordable eats!

Great food! Same ownership as one of my favorites Mi Rancherito in Spanish Fork. Great affordable food. Amazing chips and salsa.I love the chicken enchiladas. Can't beat the price.

Being the only sit down restaurant open in Payson on a Sunday night we headed over. Good news- they do have beer, not margaritas. I could have used a margarita, but the XX Amber worked for me. Carnitas sounded good to me and my husband loves chile verde. What we received had little resemblance to anything we've ever had by those names. Both were made from crispy fried pork cubes, mine with chopped fresh veggies on top and his with cooked bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes. Both tasted fine for what they were, but we would not have ordered either. All that said, it sure beat eating at McDonalds.

Best Mexican food in Payson by far. Their enchiladas, burritos, etc. are exceptional. However, their chile rellenos are the best I have ever had.

This is one of those typical Mexi joints that gives you huge portions and puts a lot of extra cheese on everything. Those places can be hit-and-miss, ranging from terrible to amazing. This place is closer to the amazing end of the spectrum. Mi Rancherito isn't the best Mexican food I've had in Utah County, but it's by far the best I've had in Payson and it's also one of the best sit-down Mexi-Meals I've had for the ridiculously low price. They have BIG combination plates for $6 and $7, with some specilties ranging up to $10-$11. And the combination plates include a drink! They do charge $0.50 for refills, but it's still a fantastic deal. The chips and salsa were super delicious and they're not stingy about bringing out an extra tub of the hot stuff when your food arrives. I had a shredded beef taco and a chicken enchilada. Both were perfectly, tenderly, cooked and seasoned just the right amount. And unlike other similar places, they didn't SMOTHER everything with cheese. Don't get me wrong, there was lots of cheese, but it wasn't an overwhelming amount. The rice and beans were both super delicious, especially with some of the salsa mixed in there. Next time I'm in Payson around lunch time, I know where I'm eating. Here!

We finally got a chance to eat at this place. The place is a bit dingy and could use a good sprucing up. Torn seat cushions and dingy walls, who do you blame that on? Friendly staff. Stale chips, good salsa. As you can see by some of the pics posted here, the plates are not to colorful. They really smothered everything with cheese. That's not what I'm used to in authentic Mexican food. I'm not going to bash the place, but it's just not for us.

This place is fantastic if you're looking for slow service, no refills, sub par food and a non working yet filled with brown liquid toilet upstairs! Some restaurants are so worried about "friendliness" and "overall quality of food". Not these guys! I ordered the Juliana Special and I'm fairly sure Juliana was the name of old man Rancheritos horse he had butchered last winter, cause I've never had beef like that before. All that being said, the water(although served in shot glasses) was quite cold and refreshing.

Fresh great tasting food. The owners are great and the service is friendly. Chips and salsa are so good almost my favorite in the county...almost. My favorite menu items are the chicken quesadilla, chili rellano and chicken enchiladas. My kids love the taco salads. Inexpensive and fast!

The entree's were good, but the salsa tasted weird. We sent it back and got another batch with along with a confused smirk from the waitress. It tasted like whatever vegitables they put in it were pickled. Weird. Like most places I've been in Utah this place suffered from a small beer selection. Other than that it was OK.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
