Finding a nice place to eat in Monticello is difficult for people like us, just passing through. Many places seem to only be open seasonally or closed for good. So I feel like we found a hidden treasure when we stopped at the Horse Head Grill. Two of my children are extremely picky, but we found several things on their kids menu that they liked. (Chicken strips, cheese quesadillas, hamburgers... ) I had the country fried stake, my husband had the pork chops, and my older daughter had a hot beef plate. They were all hot and delicious and came with nice sides of potatoes and veggies or salad. Great sized portions. The price was nice too. The service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend you check it out. You won't regret it.

This place is convenient for those passing by but the food is sub-par. The bacon was clearly microwaved (and for way too long), the burgers were like well done hockey pucks, the Philly cheesesteak tasted oddly metallic. And no beer. The chicken fingers were the only redeeming part along with the server whom was very pleasant.

I don't really feel it. I stopped in after a long day on the road and ordered a bacon cheeseburger because I wanted something beefy in my mouth. The burger was definitely well done, borderline charred to death. Wish I'd thought to specify medium. Anyway it was mostly edible and the fries were nicely done. I got the feeling the waitstaff was highly disorganized. There were three ladies running the show who were all very pleasant but they were all over the place. Tables missing parts of orders, different person checking on me each time to ask if I'd ordered or needed my check taken care of or what I was drinking or what have you. It took probably 15 minutes between the time I finished and finally signed my check, and the place wasn't even that busy. Also I was dismayed that not only was there no bar, there is no beer because there is a church across the street. State law apparently, but still a bummer and one more reason to hate on Utah.

I am going to have to agree with the two reviews I read that were negative. The "wait staff " would have to take a class to qualify as adequate. I ordered the soup and salad. The salad was shameful. The salad bar had real bacon bits....the kind you buy in a jar at the grocery, iceberg lettuce, croutons that I believe were also purchased at a grocery store, chopped tomatoes and bell peppers and not much else. I still haven't seen my soup. The waitress explained that she "forgot to put it out." My daughter had a burger and requested lettuce, tomatoes, and no onions. The burger was served with lettuce and onions....no tomatoes.Close. My husband had the chicken fried steak that he graded 3/10....25 minutes in and still no soup. The waiter...apparently we need two employees to cover one table said "were working on it." SERIOUSLY? This place is a joke.check out the pic of my salad! The soup finally came and wait for it....it was TEPID.

We visited this new restaurant in Monticello after several days exploring Canyonlands. Needless to say, we hadn't eaten anything other then camp food for a week. While we were hungry and would have eaten most anything, we were so lucky to choose this place! The prime rib was on special, and the entire party ordered it with a trip to the salad bar. It was perfect, served with excellent mashed potatoes and a cup of au jous and horseradish. The salad bar was a nice precursor. Of course, the portion was more than ample but we couldn't resist the pies for desert. Little miniature personal pies! Overall excellent food. The place is family run, and the mom...who is also the cook...came out to greet us. Their family has been in the area for many decades, and they also own a ranch. Must explain the great beef! We will come back again. Even if it means a detour!

They officially opened on Valentines day. I took my wife out to eat, you know valentines day, and they had a prime rib dinner special. The service was excellent the waitress and staff made sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. We ordered our drinks which came right out, we then ordered two specials and a single trip to the salad bar. As soon as my wife was done with her salad the prime rib came out not moments later. The food was excellent, the baked potato came with two butter pads and a portion cup of sour cream, the prime rib came with the same portion cup size of Au Jus. I know people like their prime rib with horse radish, this wasn't provided. The Prime Rib was medium rare and just perfect, best I've had in a while. Over all a great restaurant.

While in Monticello, I stopped in to the Horse Head Grill and I'm glad I did! I enjoyed a fine meal while listening to some live country music on a week night. I ordered the Cowgirl (a New York Strip) and there was nothing girly about it! It was a large, tasty steak, cooked to perfection! Best food in town.
