Es muy bueno. A bit confusing and nothing like other locations, but a great taco stand and delicious Leatherby's ice cream combined into one entity of tastiness. No parking, but the amazing Almond Joy ice cream makes up for that.

Okay, I did not come here for mexican food, thought I'm sure it's wonderful. I came for ice-cream. Old-fashioned scoop ice-cream that is the bloody flavor you want and you leave it alone. No cramming gummie-bears or sprinkles in there. You want mint-chocolate chip you order mint chocolate-chip. The ice-cream is good. Very good. But don't order ice-cream. You will order the hot-fudge sundae. The hot fudge is so freaking good. And it's just a nice place. Nice people, small, old-school business. Not a lot of flash or dazzle. They put it into the ice-cream.

Did you know there's a place where you can get gigantic scoops of delicious ice cream AND authentic Mexican food? The Leatherby's in Midvale answers all of your hot and spicy AND smooth and creamy cravings in one cute little shop. I went there with some friends recently. We went JUST for the food and shared a few of the delicious tamales and a chicken quesadilla. The chicken was a little 'suspect', and I'm picky about my bird, so the quesadilla wasn't my favorite. But I've had the tamales a few times and am never disappointed. They are cheap, but they are even cheaper if you buy them by the dozen. They serve them cooked or frozen so hey, eat 6 now and take 6 home for later! The shop is right on what was, what could be, and what hopefully will be again, a cute little downtown area. It's not the most beautifully decorated, or the most spacious (just a few small tables) but it has character. Of course the ice cream is good. And the caramel sauce. Hurray for caramel sauce....wow, thinking about it is making me hungry. Maybe I'd better go an' get me some!!

I've driven past the "Mexican Leatherbys" many times, but it always looked like it was closed (either for the day or permanently). But at the urging of some other Yelp friends, I gave the tamale and ice cream joint a try. The tamales were surprisingly good - fresh, a wide variety of flavors, and all under $2. The ice cream flavors are the same as the original Taylorsville location, but much less expensive. My "Gretchen's Golden Nugget" sundae was only $3.85 (about half of the Taylorsville location price) The ambiance isn't terribly family-friendly. The interior is cramped with wobbly tables and chairs. I can see myself getting tamales to go for a party or family dinner. It's a part of town I don't venture into alone at night, so bring your friends when you visit Mexi-Leatherbys.

Good Ice cream.... And Mexican. Odd but good. the ice cream is decent. there were a lot of people there eating the Mexican food so it must be decent too. the ice cream was decent. not bad but not great either.

Not what I was expecting. The Taylorsville location couldn't be more different from this location. The only similarity is the ice... nothing. Almost nothing. This is not the Leatherby's I know and... kind of like. The people working here are nice enough, but it feels like a location Leatherby's decided to abandon. I ordered a chocolate, peanut butter and banana shake. It was a huge portion and it was ok.

Simply yummy! With ice cream and Mexican food in one shop. What more could one ask for? Y'all should try the horcata flavored ice cream. I can't wait to back and have a ice cream social.

The tacos are great although the portions could be a little bigger and the tamales are fantastic. Love the mole and also the green. If you have kids they might like the sweet pineapple tamales as well. It's the most authentic Mexican I know of besides a taco stand in the salt lake area, plus there's ice cream.

Great ice cream. Fun little family atmosphere. Banana split is my weakness... Every time but they have fantastic other options. I'm just a romantic and think banana splits are too cute.

Tamales? Really? At Leatherbys? Yes, really. Mexican food may not be the first thing you think of when you think of Leatherby's, but I'm here to tell you that the fine folks at this location make a mean tamale. After several visits I find myself really digging their style. They've got pork, chicken, green chicken, beef, mole, and probably another kind or two that I'm forgetting about. Get the green chicken if you're only having one. It's got a kick to it, but you'll appreciate the extra spice among the corny goodness. That said, don't just get one. You can order a whole dozen and get a few ready-to-eat and the others frozen. Try them all! I haven't tried any of the other Mexican food on the menu. They've got tacos and tostadas, and probably a few other things I can't remember right now. Back to the creamery part. The ice cream here is pretty simple. Most just come in for a scoop and there are several flaves to choose from. You can get a little fancier. Last time in I saw the Golden Nugget which was a wafflecone bowl with ice cream and nutty goodness. I'm intrigued enough to try it. Sundaes too. There's not much to the place. A simple counter and a few tables inside. It's charming enough. Park on the street out front. Make it a post-meal dessert stop, or enjoy any of the Mexican food there and make it an epic epicurean journey by adding dessert.

The store front still pays homage to the unique feel that is old Midvale city center near 7800 and 700 west. Very brick and mortar, mom and pop shop type feel. Then upon entering that same idea continues with the simple yet delicious offerings they have on their menu. They offer two subjects: classic ice cream selections from leatherbys (which include hot fudge brownie sundaes, black and white shake set ups, banana splits, basically nothing to go wrong with) And flavorfully prepared latino street cuisine. (Which include tortas, tamales, quesadillas, and street tacos!) Yes it's a bizarre combination but the quality of the products speak for themselves. The service is friendly, the environment relaxed. Really..... What more are you looking for in a small town taqueria ice cream shop. Get in the doors now folks.

Great authentic Mexican food combined with my favorite ice cream franchise. The al pastor tacos are really good and the red salsa is one of the few good red salsa's in the valley. The jalapeño & cheese tamales are exceptional. The only down side is the ice cream options. They have everything needed for the Black & Tan, which is my favorite, but they may lack other flavors and combinations.

I only had Ice Cream from this Leatherby location, both times were late at night and after we had Mexican food on Main Street. I am not entirely sure about this neighborhood, but it seems like a good idea to carry a conceal weapon. The place was quite simple with classic diner type feel to it. Ice creams were simple and decent, just scoop and dump on the cup with different flavors to choose. Price was fair. You can always kick it up a notch with a waffle shell or turn it into a sundae. I need to find another time to try their regular dishes and tamales.

Literally the only thing within a mile walking distance that was open on a Friday night. The nearby Mexican place was rented out for a family party and I wasn't looking to test my chances on a food cart, so Leatherby's was our only choice. The service was very friendly, food was better than expected considering it's basically an ice cream shop. Be warned: if you order something with cheese, it will be smothered in cheese.
