We were very Leary of trying this sushi place because it was recently shut down for public health code violations. The Restaurant only has a %2 rank and a 1 star at of 5 rating with the health department and have failed many inspections. After all raw fish is one food I do not want to mess with on health code violations. public.cdpehs.com/UTEnvP… We had a gift certificate and thought we would try it any way. It was a divey type of place and not fancy at all. It was a bit dirty and unkempt, But the food was good. It tasted better than most other sushi places I've been to with the same price range. What topped it all was the service. Our waitresses were very pleasant and helpful and even walked us out the door. We had personal visit from the chef to our table and he brought us a complementary glass of honey ginger tea that was very tasty. I would go there again but want to keep tabs on the health department sight to make sure they are keeping up to code.

In an unassuming little strip mall in Midvale, near an ink cartridge store and nail salon, sits Itto Sushi. Blink and you'll miss it. Don't blink. One of the things I love about local joints is that they're catering to that--their locals. If you're a regular, they've got a place on the wall for you to store your chopsticks. Like the "Cheers" of sushi joints. It's not teeny, but most of the tables are simple 4-tops and totally adequate for your and your pals to grab some fresh fish. And that's what you oughta do. Get some fresh fish. Keep it simple. There's a list of rolls here that goes on and on, and frankly, the best stuff I've had was the simple, stripped down fish. They know how to cut it, and they respect the purity. However, this being sushi in the year 2014, and especially in the suburbs, they mix in all kinds of more gimmicky things. Rolls with fried stuff and lots of sauces. Fine, if that's your thing you'll be pleased as punch, but it's the more authentic stuff that really shines. And do take visit to both the appetizer and kitchen menus. I had some tuna tataki that melted in my mouth. I'd get that every time and totally reasonably priced. And the Hawaiian poke was cool and seaweedy and just fresh and clean. As the cooked stuff goes, grab some udon noodles, or the tonkatsu chicken. That tonkatsu chicken platter is massive and comes with tempura veggies, chicken, rice, pickled cukes, and sauce. That's worth a trip right there. Lovely spot. Something for everyone. Peel back the menu and get the good stuff. 50% off nights a couple of times a week, if that's your jam.

Itto is hands down some of the best sushi around. It's a small place, and modestly decorated. But do not let that fool you! You'll find the personable Itto himself upfront and center with talented chefs, creating some extremely unique, FRESH, and absolutely delicious sashimi, nagiri, sushi, and other customary Japanese cuisine. We try to afford 3-4 visits a month! haha. Prices are standard, but as many others pointed out they often have Living Social/Groupon deals and half-off specials on Tue and Wed nights. Hope to see you there!

The Bento Box is a good value. The portion is generous & the selection is great. I usually get Salmon Teriyaki & Shrimp,- Veggie Tempura. (2 choices per box). Sashimi Tuna is very high quality. Great place for Japanese food. Very quiet after the lunch rush.

We went to Itto last night for the first time. We had a coupon to use and I had been craving sushi for the longest time. We brought friends with us and had to wait about 5 minutes for a table to be open for our 4 people plus a baby. It is a very small restaurant but they have used every square inch possible to accommodate seats. We ordered 6 sushi rolls to share: Fire Dragon, Funky Charlie, Sunset, Titanic, Fireball and one other I can't remember. All of them were delicious and we dove into them with lots of enthusiasm! The Fireball comes out literally on fire wrapped in aluminum foil on a little skillet. It was a nice flare and had good smoky flavor. The Fire Dragon was made into a dragon and it was tied for my favorite with the Funky Charlie but all of the rolls were phenomenal. The wait staff were all looking adorable in their kimonos and everyone was very nice. There were at least 6 televisions playing Japanese music videos, baseball and a car show. When we didn't receive the rice we ordered for the baby (which we didn't end up needing) they insisted on giving us dessert to make up for it. They were happy to split the bill as we wanted including the coupon and dessert. I didn't give it 5 stars because the service was a little slow but they seemed a bit understaffed for the dinner rush so it was understandable. This is our new favorite sushi place! Everyone go to keep them in business!

It's very small and in a strip mall, so really you should get four stars for that. But, the food is so five star even down to the rice which is different as well! Great atmosphere and service too :-). As you can see by our pictures, the rolls are very unique and creative. Very different then the other places we have gone. This is our new favorite place! We will soon become regulars then we can have reservations for our own chopsticks. *wink

I don't write many reviews and it's been a long time since I've written one. I've eaten here twice now and both times felt like I was being invited into their home. Everyone was very polite and courteous. The food tastes and looks like it was prepared with love and passion. The quality of the ingredients is amazing as well. The seafood is fresh and the sashimi comes with REAL grounded wasabi, not green horseradish. The service is more than amazing. The chef comes out to check on you and even stays to chat a bit. It is not the cheapest nor the most expensive sushi in town, but the quality is definitely better than most. I will continue to dine here again and again.

I went this humble looking restaurant with my coworkers and all of us were so impressed. The menu looked very typical of many sushi places but it was the small things that made the entire experience great. Everything was very clean, the service quick and friendly. The presentation of the sushi and all of the other food was actually ... beautiful. It not only tasted good but looked good too! At the end of the meal, the waitress brought out some complimentary cinnamon herbal tea that was very delicious and refreshing. My absolute favorite part of the entire meal though, was when one of the chefs came out to tell us about our meal. He explained that the fish was totally fresh and had never been frozen, and that he only uses fresh fish. He told us that the wasabi was made in house and had been ground by him that morning. Then he presented all of us with a special sauce that he created himself and invited us to try it. All of this he did, while showing us great honor and respect by bowing. That was the coolest part of the whole experience and it made me want to go back again. Oh, by the way, the food was awesome! Great sushi and the chicken teriyaki was the best I've ever had.

  • Devin B.

Great food and sushi. We come here for the bento boxes and sushi rolls. The teriyaki beef they serve in the bento box is by far the best teriyaki beef I've had. It's not a heavy flavor or sauce but a light sweet flavor. Very good. The sushi is also great. Great rolls and sashimi. They often have discounts on Groupon. We have used the groupon discount multiple times. However, it's definitely worth the full price without a coupon. The most impressive thing is the staff. Extremely friendly, everyone says hello and goodbye when entering or leaving the restaurant. Last time we went the main chef came out and was checking on everyone and was very friendly. One of the best in the valley!

I chose this place for my birthday with my family and was so pleased with the choice! The service and food was all excellent. One of the sushi chefs brought out our sushi personally and told us about what he paired it with and how the fish was fresh and never frozen. He even brought out some free sushi with a candle for my birthday. Very nice atmosphere. The lion king roll was yummy and I would recommend the yellowtail sushi as well. I think I've found my new regular sushi place!

Great place for sushi. Everything we tried was pretty good. The reviews on Yelp are pretty accurate. It's a small homey atmosphere. Very helpful staff enthusiastic greeting right as you enter the door. Food came at you pretty quick. Reasonable prices. What can I say. Everything was a tasty. I will need to visit more often in order to make better suggestions.

Visited here on a business trip from the SF Bay Area. This little place has some of the best sushi I've ever tasted and the prices are very reasonable. The chef (I'm assuming he's the owner) is incredibly gracious and comes to each table to bow and thank the patrons for visiting. When I told him how pleased I was with my meal, he was very appreciative and obviously moved.

The best sushi I have ever had. I loved this place. We came in hungry and left satisfied. Ordered the sushi boat and a few other rolls, the chef came out and told us all of their fish was never frozen, the wasabi was also fresh and ground up that morning. Oh my gosh. We also ordered some pot stickers. They were truly melt in your mouth good. To top it all off, the chef came out to check on how we liked our food, we told him just how amazing it was. Our waitress even gave us some ice cream on the house, which was, you guessed it, incredible. Wow wow wow wow wow. I can't recommend this place more.

I JUST LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I usually don't leave comments, but I just wanted to show my appreciation about their foods and especially service. When I went to the place, they were pretty busy. In chaos, they still greeted me and my husband so kindly and offered a FREE appetizer. The main dishes we ordered were pretty amazing, especially the roll (I don't remember the name exactly) with the fire. YOU SHOULD TRY THAT!! We were overally so pleased with ALL the dishes which were very fresh and served with just enough sauces on them. I definately will go back there! I felt so comfortable with their kindness and great foods!

Service was excellent! The people were so friendly and accommodating. I didn't like something I had ordered and they quickly replaced it no questions asked. The restaurant it self had a fun and inviting atmosphere. I really enjoyed my meal and will be happy to return.

I finally checked this little spot out a few days ago and was really pleased! It has a nice atmosphere and our server was very attentive even though she had quite a few tables. I went on a Tuesday and was happy to order rolls for 50% off. Between 3 of us, we got 8 rolls and they were all stellar! I really appreciated the attention to detail - not only with service, but food presentation as well. Loved the little tea steeper in my cup! I also was really fascinated by the Japanese MTV (or whatever it was) music station they had playing on the TV. It added to the ambiance. I will definitely be back!

I am, admittedly, a sushi snob. I was spoiled when I lived in Los Angeles and have very high standards when it comes to eating fish. Chef Itto sources fresh (never frozen) fish that is better than anything I've had in Utah, and rivals some of the best places in LA. Add this to friendly, conscientious service and you have a real winner. Highly highly recommended.

This restaurant has quickly become one of mine and my boyfriend's favorite places to eat. I discovered this place during the summer, when I bought a Groupon, and I have come back several times since then. The sushi is incredible, and I have yet to have a better bento box. The portions are just right, the price is good, and the food is even better. The atmosphere is fun and energetic, with the tv's displaying Asian music videos (which I really enjoy the cultural diversity). The servers are fast and friendly, and make this restaurant feel cozy and comfortable. Even the chefs, who are in the back corner cooking away, will always bid you farewell as you're leaving. One last perk that I must add is this: every Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon, there is 50% off select sushi rolls. Do I need to say more? To say the least, I am very happy that I found this place.

    (5)
  • Eric B.

Hard to argue with the 50% off on Tuesdays and Wednesdays! That being said, it isn't like the rolls should normally cost twice that much. I'd say full price should between the actual full price and the 50% off price. Good sushi for the price though. Also, they tend to have groupons but it is kind of misleading because they'll charge you full price on the 50% off nights. I understand why, but I think they should offer a different deal then.

This review has weighed heavily on my soul for a couple of weeks now. Takashi has opened this sushi shop where the Sushi in Joy was previously. The interior is mostly unchanged. I love that when I come in I feel completely welcomed. I feel like he genuinely appreciates my business. The first time I went, we ordered the sushi boat. Had some rolls, also some Nigiri. Nice fish, nice seaweed salads. The seaweed salad was super gingery, I really loved it. The next time we all got Bento boxes. This time I got Sashimi. I love what he prepared for me. Incredible yellow tail, he later came out and told us that he had cut our portions off of the belly. Also he gave us a thick slab of butterfish. Oh my.. tender morsel. Lastly a cut of tuna. Takashi sears the edges and adds salt and pepper. I don't know if that falls under traditional but it sure does taste nice. I just really enjoyed my time at his establishment. There is some room for improvement, and I hesitate to bring this to light. I would still classify myself as a sushi rookie, too much of my knowledge is book based. I thought that, especially with Nigiri, the chef was supposed to add wasabi as he saw fit, and glaze the fish with soy. Here at Itto, it's just fish on rice. Also the rice doesn't have that tang that I've come to love. It falls apart more than other places that I've visited. This could very well just be Takashi's preference and I would respect that if it was. There is wasabi and soy on the table. Once he even brought us a soy based glaze that he said he really likes. Takashi and his staff are incredible, I want them to be successful. I do, in fact, recommend this establishment, with only the slightest of reservations. I welcome any sushi masters to send me a message to either correct me or to educate me. Thanks for reading.

Itto Sushi provides a great atmosphere to eat sushi. I come here often with friends or even family and they're always respectful. Two things that I do not enjoy from Itto is that their sushi is quite overpriced compared to all the sushi places nearby and the restaurant is quite small. I'd say for the overall food quality, it is decent. In comparison to other nearby sushi joints, Itto takes an extremely long time for the sushi to come out. I'd suggest you stay away from the soup varieties for which it is quite bland. Hopefully next time, they either lower the prices on their sushi or provide more portions.

The Romeo and Juliet is the most amazing sushi I've ever had! Tempura California were also scrumptious! We went to this place based off of yelp reviews and sushi cravings. The place was packed upon arrival and there was a line inside the door. We were seated after a couple of minutes and took a four person table. There was a family of 4 behind us in line. Two seats at the bar opened up and my wife told the waitress that we'd be happy to move to the bar. Thank the heavens she did so! We got to meet itto! Right when we sat down, itto gave us a huge thank you and said he was making a special roll just for us as a gift! Whata champ. He was extremely nice and made us the Romeo and Juliet... Which just so happens to be mine and my wife's favorite sushi now. I am so glad we are moving to the fort Union area... We will be a couple of regs :) I only leave reviews for really impressive places or really terrible places. That said, we were thoroughly impressed with itto' establishment.

This is another non-Japanese/un-experienced Japanese restaurant. The owner lived in Osaka, Japan until he was until six years old and then went back to Korea. My co-friend suggested to go there since the owner told that him that he was a Japanese from Osaka. He is disappointed to know that he was not told the truth. I went to for lunch and first thing that I noticed was that they were playing Korean music video. I ordered Age dashi Tofu, Tuna Tataki and Katsudon. * Age dashi came out triangle small cut tofu which I never seen cut that way with very sweet dashi source without ginger nor Katsuobushi but with black sesame seeds. * Tuna was cut very thin and the meat was very still. Came with sweet vinegar source, black sesame seeds, wasabi and gari (pickled ginger). * Tonkatsu was thin and smelled old. Source had a strange smell as well but it could be because of the Tonkatsu. Rice was completely soaked with the source and bowl (rice) was not hot at all. The owner and the waitress were very friendly, however, they were trying to teach some Japanese to the customers ... Sorry but that was a little weird to me (native speaker).

We were excited to try this new place out after Enjoy Sushi had closed. Our first time there, our waitress was very nice and accomodating and our food came out in a timely manner. Our group ordered the Beef donburi, rainbow roll, tempura roll, and the udon. The food was good and authentic, we enjoyed the flavorful broth in both the miso and udon and the rice was perfectly cooked in the sushi rolls. With the great 1st time experience, we had our family come back the following weekend. They were much busier but we didn't mind the wait. However, of our party of 6, one got his entree first and finished it before the other entrees came out. They forgot my husband's Donburi all together and the waitress said the kitchen had missed it and also told us the they were out of udon. We would have appreciated the notice when she turned in our order or heck, even midway through the meal, but she let us know at the end of the meal where one person was completely was done with his meal, and the 4 of us were trying to eat our meals as slowly as possible to wait for the other 2 meals to come out. She was apologetic and nice and gave us free tempura ice cream, but it was a disappointing outcome nevertheless. We would return for the quality of the food and hopefully not at such a busy night and the kitchen works out their kinks.

This place was great my wife and I used a groupon there . It turned out that we had a groupon 4 or more people but they excepted it anyway. The waiter made some suggestions and was very polite. Now my wife has never liked Sushi.....until today at Itto Sushi. This place is awesome we orders 3 rolls; a spicy Tuna, the Philadelphia: a smoked Salmon , avocado and cream cheese roll and finally the firebird a little more pricy at 13.95 but well worth it it had soft shell crab, tempura shrimp, smoked Salmon, cream cheese, avocado, rolled in a seaweed wrap and rice with a spicy mayo glaze and BBQ soy sauce brought to our table in an iron skilled set ablaze by Saki. Really recommend it. Long story short my wife now likes Sushi lol If you like Sushi and I mean real Sushi made right and your in Midvale check the place out Tuesdays and Wednesdays are 50% off all rolls, and right now ( 1/14/2014 ) there's a great group on deal for the place. Check the place out you won't regret it!!!!

Came here for lunch with friends and everything about it was completely amazing. The sushi rolls were on point. And the bento boxes were not only presentable, but so good I almost had an orgasm on spot. Our waitress in her traditional wear has the best service. Definitely recommended for anyone who loves quick awesome food and service.

What a delight. The food was so good. We each got a bento box and a few rolls to share. Everything was great. Service was a little slow, but we did not mind as we were a large group and enjoyed chatting. The server offered to take a group photo for us. The chef brought out two complimentary desserts for us to share. They couldn't have been sweeter. I overheard the customer behind us raving about his meal as well. We will surely go back next time we are in the area.

Great service and great deals on Tues and Wed night half price sushi rolls!!! Our favorites are the heart attack, lion king, and godzilla. For about $6.99 per roll on half price night, you cant beat it! It's a small place, the owner, Itto is very friendly and happy all the time. Definitely the best sushi in the area.

I found out about this place through restaurants.com and decided to check it out on last Tuesday. They offered 50% off on selected rolls on Tuesday and Wednesday and 30% off on bento box for lunch. (Well, you get what you pay, their sushi rolls size are 1/2 as regular) We ordered Fire Bird (strongly suggested), heart attack (spicy, be cautious), and titanic rolls. I felt disappointed about their rolls since they were not much better than Costco level quality. The sushi were small and the rice was moderately hard, tasteless and chewy. Their service was good though. But I won't be back anytime soon.

Tried going here. There weren't too many people there and I was seated quickly. The water came quickly and then they seated a party of eight and left me sitting there for 15 minutes. I wasn't happy about that. The waitress then checks on everyone else and didn't come back. I was ready a minute after she brought the water. So I walked across the parking lot to a different restaurant.

Visiting from Las Vegas to snowboard with my 11 y/o son and he wanted sushi. I saw the yelp reviews and we wanted to give this place a try. To start off, the staff and chefs were very friendly. I ordered the jroll (50% off) and the crunch spicy tuna roll. Both were super yummy. My son wanted 6 pieces of tuna nigiri. What happened next was awesome! The chef( and I'm presuming owner) delivered it himself with fresh ground wasabi and a special sauce that was to die for. My son gobbled them up in no time and wanted more. He couldn't stop raving about how good the nigiri was. We ended up getting two more orders and he ate those too. (Total of ten pieces, which is a record for my son) Then the chef/owner came over to ask how we liked the nigiri, and he was kinda shocked to find out that my 11 y/o ate it all. He appreciated my son's tastes for good sushi even more by bringing over 4 pieces of tuna sashimi for us before we left. (Which was delicious btw) Suffice it to say, that kind gesture for my very picky eater son says a lot about this restaurant. Now, to really give you an idea of how fresh this fish was, we live in Las Vegas and have literally TONS of sushi places. So, super fresh nigiri and sashimi is not hard to find. But...my son, the picky eater, told me that he couldn't believe we had to come to SLC to get the best nigiri he's ever had! Kudos to the owner. When we are back in town, we will definitely be back!

Sushi was good was pleasantly surprised to see they offer 50% off Wednesday night. I enjoyed most of my rolls and the service was good the sushi chef even came over and asked everyone how everything was and greeted us and thanked us for coming which I thought was a nice gesture. Definitely worth a try.

This was our first time back since the restaurant changed ownership and it was better than ever! My favorite was the titanic! My hubs fave was the firebird. Went to this place because I had a discount voucher from restaurant.com . We were very glad we did! The pot stickers were fresh and wonderful. Two sushi rolls were awesome. Next we ordered beef donburi and they brought us complimentary miso soup while we waited. I left resolved to learn to cook donburi. The sushi chef personally visited our table to ensure our food was satisfactory, and the waitress was very helpful in answering all our questions. We will be back for sure!

Went for lunch, not very busy. Service is very nice. Pricing is a little shady because everywhere was advertised 30% off a listed price of $6.99 but when the bill came we received 20% off the full price of $12. I questioned the server and she decided at that moment she didnt understand English that well and i wasnt in the mood to make her understand so I just paid the bill. Sushi is ok but not worth the price. Maybe I will come back but not going to come out of my way for it. Oh by the way my credit card receipt says Joy in Sushi. weird

Find this place on Yelp, and fall in love at the first visit. Friendly, neat and most of all fresh sashimi. The Sashimi Boat is my favorite, you get different kinds each visit depending on what fresh fishes they have.

I ate here last night, I used a groupon coupon and had three sushi rolls, they where really good. I had the J roll, The Mango tango, and the Titanic all good, the restaurant is small but great atmosphere, they have three big Tv's so if you want to watch tv while eating you can. The chef's are awesome and so are the servers, very funny. I will be going there again.

Wow.. I have just found my go-to sushi restaurant. I stumbled upon this place after buying a groupon and it is the best decision that I made. For lunch I ordered the Albacore Belly Dave's Way, Spicy tuna nigiri, firebird roll and the sushi vampire roll. The fish was so fresh and there were a variety of creative rolls offered on the menu. The Albacore Belly Dave's Way is albacore nigiri with a little special sauce and fresh garlic and it is the one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! The service was also great- our server was so attentive, warm, and quick. The restaurant also offers 50% off select rolls on Tuesday and Wednesday nights!

Very authentic sushi joint; just seeing that true Japanese culture you can't fake more than made up for the small errors like not bringing the tuna tataki out first. Food was literally the best sushi i've had ever (and i know my way around sushi joints) get the firebird, something about how the smoked flavor melds with the sushi and the literally flaming (flaming saki) presentation is out of this world. Itto himself came to make sure everything was perfect, when i explained the very small areas they could improve on he was very thankful, bowed politely, and informed us he was going to make us a special desert on the house, delicious fried ice cream ball cut like a ripe orange. Delicious. Itto treated us like we were the emperors personal guests eating at his establishment. What can i say, i may make the drive up from provo more often just to come here. While i can get great sushi down south, no one can make me feel more at home with a sushi joint than ittos. I'd rather have a first/second-gen Japanese server that makes a couple trivial mistakes than a college student that does everything perfectly. Happy sumo may have decent sushi, but ittos has sushi soul. A note- the tataki was not particularly what i'm used to, i'm personally not a huge fan of the salt/pepper seasoning after being sliced, but i'm more of a season/glaze the outside and sear and leave the inside raw/rare and un-molested with some ponzu sauce or glaze for dipping, but thats a personal preference, it was still very high quality tuna, just some of the tuna flavor was lost to the strong pepper. As a seafood fanatic i'more particular about tasting the raw fish than most and many will prefer the seasoned tataki(we make our own sushi/sashimi out of wahoo and fresh tuna that we catch while still on the boat on fishing trips to the keys- doesn't get any fresher) Give ittos a try and you wont be disappointed. Again, GET THE FIREBIRD! Wow. I'm pretty sure everyone who works there speaks perfect Japanese, i know all the employees i saw there did.

Went there for the first time to use a Groupon. Was very pleased. Nice clean restaurant with a superb staff! The sushi was very good, but the best part was the superb service! Very friendly and accommodating in every way. I look forward to exploring their menu in the future.

I used a groupon that was a great deal; $40 of food for $20, so I really appreciated the value. We ordered sushi at a table (the bar was pretty small) and got the rainbow roll, which was o.k but for being a raw roll with slices of fish I was surprised it was served kind of warm. We also ordered the Funky Charlie, which was really original and had some spicy flavors. I really liked the different flavors mixed with the fried textures! We were excited about the Godzilla roll, but found it was kind of bland and disappointing. The last roll we ordered was the Hawaiian and it too was ok, and again not cold or fresh. Overall, a decent sushi restaurant with good deals out there but just mediocre sushi. I'm sure some rolls are better than others!

Went here to use my Groupon and I was very satisfied. The service and food was great. The owner even came and gave my ornery son a free soda :) I would recommend the Romeo and Juliet. They have 50% off dinner on certain nights that we'd definitely take advantage.

This is awesome. I love the combo, it's a lot of selection. The food is delicious, the services are great. The server and chef so friendly. They always greeting customers. Love it

Um let's see waited 30 minutes for a scallop sushi piece... Reason that's how long it to defrost. Then as I was singing my check the waitress asked if I could leave because she had a couple waiting. Rude and frozen sushi pieces YUCK

This is my favorite sushi spot in the valley. I recently moved away but when I come back eating here is always a priority. I love the Tuesday and Wednesday happy hour, it is a great deal with awesome food. Itto has always been there and is obviously excited to see his customers. The dandelion is my favorite.

Food is more authentic than in most places which was great. They make great popular rolls, but sushi and sushimi are less popular. Chirachi sashimi bowl was surprisingly small portion for $18, and tuna maguro had weird pink hard top layer as if it was slightly cooked before slicing. 3 stars only for being disorganized as the place got filled with customers, both servers and the kitchen. 1 of 3 chefs was constantly running around for ingredients, and all 3 were stressed out. The waitresses did not attend us after we placed 1st order, so we spent 1 h and a half just to eat 2 small orders. The owner was very nice indeed and was trying to make up for slow service with special treats.

I decided to branch out and try this place based on its reviews here. Summary: I wish the sushi had been as outstanding as the service. That's not to say it was bad, just nothing special. The service: Service was fantastic - wonderful, friendly people who did their very best to make you feel welcome the moment you walk in. The sushi chef made a point of personally stopping by our table once during our meal to make sure everything was okay. The Menu: I have a shellfish allergy, so having a large variety of fresh, non-cooked fish-only rolls is high on my list. The menu was disappointing from that perspective, the majority of the rolls were either deep fried/baked or had shrimp (or both). A lot of good sushi places have some vegetarian roll options, this place had none that I saw. The Food: We had both some nigiri and a few rolls. The nigiri was excellent and I have no complaints there. The rolls were fine - presentation was a little lacking - but taste-wise, they were good ... but nothing special. Would I go back? For the service, absolutely. For the food, only if I had another Groupon.

We used a Groupon our first time here. We really enjoyed the sushi and the service. I've been going around to several different sushi places in the valley over the past few weeks and Itto was a great place to go. They must be a newer place since there were signs covering up advertisement for Sushi In Joy ( yelp.com/biz/sushi-in-jo… ). The service was great and the food was really good. The owner, Itto, came to our table and was very grateful for us spending our evening with them. We will be going back for sure!

My husband and I have always had a great experience at itto! The new owner is such a sweet guy and is great at making sure you have a wonderful experience. Last time we dined there it was really busy, they warned us the food would take awhile. It was a really long time before we got our food but they brought us free edamame while we waited, kept us updated and continually apologized. At the end of our meal the brought out free dessert and a certificate for a future visit. The sushi isn't the best sushi out there but for the price (especially during happy hour or If you buy a groupon) it's a great deal. My husband loves the fireball, full of flavor and brought out while it's on fire which is fun! We will continue visiting multiple times a month to support this awesome restaurant and all the staff!

Delicious sushi rolls, including unique combinations we haven't seen at other sushi restaurants. Very happy with excellent service, as well.

Apparently this is the "old" sushi place with the new owner and chef. They are still in transition and still have the old sign on the door. They list beer, sake, and wine on their menu but actually don't have a license yet and don't serve any alcohol yet. We ordered a number of nigiri sushi and rolls. All rolls and, surprisingly, nigiri sushi came with way too much sauce and spices, which mask the taste of fish itself. The fish seems to be not bad, however it's hard to judge with all the extras on sushi. Not the sushi place that I would go back again.

This was our first visit. As soon as we opened the door we were happily greeted by the Chef and server in the most beautiful Kimono. The Miso soup was the best I have had in Salt Lake City, We had the Bento Box Lunches and added 2 Rolls, the Titanic and Spicy Tuna Crunch. The server(owner?) was so kind and attentive. Our drink glasses never got empty. Now to the food. AMAZING!!! Miso soup perfect not salty not to much seaweed or onions I could have had several bowls an made a meal out of just that. We ordered 2 bento boxes one with Tempura and the other with Teriyaki Beef. The beef was so Tender and the Tempura was light and crispy I even got an asparagus spear which was delicious. The Titanic Roll was great lightly spicy and delicious. The spicy Tuna crunch Roll was perfectly spicy with a ton of crunch on top. The server insisted we try dessert. We shared a small plate of 4 different Mochi Ice Creams with whipped cream sprinkled with cinnamon. Very yummy. We will be back!!! On Wednesday nights lots of the rolls are 1/2 off I know what night we are going.

My husband and I went for lunch. The greeting was, "Do you have a Groupon?" and I got the distinct impression we were going to get "Groupon" food, not regular food. Turns out I was right. My husband ordered teriyaki beef, which was cut into minute pieces, was cooked to the point of dryness and lacked flavor. I had the salmon, which tasted fishy and somewhat old. The waitress came back and saw my husband had barely touched his beef. She asked him if something was wrong and he told her if was dry and tasteless. There was no response. She didn't offer a replacement. We were really looking for a new Asian place, now that Sushi-N-Joy closed, but Itto Sushi isn't it. Maybe the sushi is better, but I really don't recommend the cooked food. Thank goodness we had a Groupon so we didn't waste too much money on inedible food.

Seriously, this place is absolutely fantastic. This is literally my husband and I's favorite place in the world to eat. The sushi is the best, and we've been a lot of places! It makes us want to cry from happiness every time we eat it. Not only is the food amazing, but the staff and owners are unreal. They are incredibly sweet and remember us every time we come in! I can't explain enough how wonderful they are. They show true Japanese hospitality and are genuinely great people! We leave amazed every single time.

SLC is fortunate to have many great sushi places and Itto is right there at the top. First let me say how incredible the service is. They truly care about your business and do everything to make sure your dining experience is to your satisfaction. Now let's get to the sushi. Boom! It's really good. They have a large selection of roles and you can taste the quality. Stop reading this review and go to Itto!

Itto sushi has quickly become one of my favorite sushi spots. Their food is amazing and more importantly their customer service. I have found that every sushi place I go to their customer service is horrible and my entire dining experience is ruined even if their rolls are good. Well this isn't the case with itto sushi, every single time I have gone, they have provided me with exceptional customer service; they even offered complimentary miso soup and a drink while I waited for my to go order. You won't regret it, their food is exceptional and well worth every penny!

I moved to Utah six months ago. I have been trying to find a good sushi place but have not found anything that I liked. Itto Sushi is by far the best sushi that I have had in Utah. Not only was the sushi delicious but the service from the chefs/waitresses was awesome. I will definitely be coming back in the future.

We went for lunch, 4 of us co-workers. We each had a bento box and ordered a Hollywood roll and Fire Bird roll. The Hollywood arrived first and was decadent. Next arrived the Fire Bird, wrapped in tin foil and was actually set on 'fire.' We were instructed to wait until the fire died down before we could open and eat it. Delicious! The bento boxes arrived last and were what you would expect from a combo box. Very tasty, but not spectacular. The service was good and fast, the place is clean and the staff very friendly. Overall, I highly recommend this place.

They were pretty busy, Friday night. We thought that was a good sign for our first visit, but it may have contributed to the slow and inattentive service we experienced. We had to flag down the waitstaff just to get a menu after about 10 minutes. We had to ask just to get a little plate to eat from & napkins, none provided. Then they forgot part of our order. We waited again for the check. When they came, they were polite, but it was just too much waiting around for them to notice. The miso and tempura were good, but both sushi rolls we tried, the Grand Canyon & Godzilla, were just okay. Not as flavorful and delicious as our favorite near by go-to sushi joint: Sushi Express 7824 South 700 East. And prices seemed high for Utah sushi around 12.95 & up for specialty rolls. So next time we'll go to Sushi Express.

Came back here several times and I just keep loving this place more and more! $6.99 specialty rolls on their 50% off rolls night (tues and wed) - and trust me, they are worth it. (I tried other rolls on their 50% list that is cheaper than 6.99 but we didn't like them as much) I have eaten at a lot of sushi places around here and this place is the best. Their fish is always so fresh. There is just the right amount of rice for each roll, which is one of the first things I'd notice in a good sushi roll. Very cute and neat presentation. Sit at the bar if you can because you'll get to talk to Itto, the owner there, and he is just the nicest guy! He remembers you and says the nicest things. Also, we usually compliment the chef's skills and he has often given us a little something extra like a small dessert or drink and it always makes our experience there that much better. Service is exceptional always, and today our first roll came out in like 5 ish minutes ! Anyways, best sushi place in Utah for my husband and I. Best rolls: lion king, dandelion, Romeo and Juliet, firebird.

I have been in utah for 6 years , and I have tried almost all the sushi place in Utah and salt lake county. But this place has the most unique test in their rolls and the price are super friendly. Bring a date and order "Firebird" it's gona make your night !!!!

Itto sushi is rapidly becoming one of my favorite sushi spots in slc. You'd never expect it, being that it is smack dab in the middle of a dirty strip mall in midvale, but it's true! This is my second time coming in. First was for lunch and this time was for their 50% off night. Tuesday and Wednesday nights offer a smaller menu, on top of the normal menu, that is all 50% off the normal price. It's awesome! Our favorites so far are the firebird, mafia and the albacore belly nigiri, Dave's way. All are different and terrific! I plan on coming back again, a few times, to try the entire menu. But, I'll definitely be getting the favorites each time too.

Discovered as a result of Groupon, and have been here twice so far. I thoroughly enjoyed every roll I've tried to so far. The staff is amazing, very attentive and genuinely nice and concerned about customer satisfaction. Prices were reasonable and depending on the day of the week, there always seem to be some type of specials going on which is nice. Will definitely revisit again in the future, especially when in the area and yes I would gladly recommend this place to others.

The staff here was great and the sushi chefs were very friendly. This place is very casual and relaxed, big TVs showing Japanese pop music videos and attentive waiters. Unfortunately the sushi was just "ok." As someone who is allergic to shell fish it is occasionally difficult to find rolls without crab or shrimp...here everything has both. My husband ordered the "vampire" roll everyone on yelp was raving about, which is covered in tons of shrimp, but he wasn't very impressed. Tables were grimy, glass tops need to be cleaned better.

    (3)
  • D. W.

If you take one thing away from this, let it be to order the Vampire roll thing. This is easily one of the best sushi rolls I've had ever, Utah or anywhere else and even though it's one of those combinations rolls, this one is flat-out outstanding. Outside is a little funky, with the sort of strip mall thing wherein you will probably get to enjoy dogfighting for a parking spot. Inside is a little odd, small, chairs close together, 4 tvs, mostly playing Japanese stuff, seat yourself (I guess?) and hit the little buzzer thing on the table when you want to order. Not in love with that, honestly, but the waitress and the sushi chefs were unbelievably, spectacularly, fantastically nice and it's easy to see they greatly value their customers and you can kind of get an idea of what they're going for here. It didn't, however, always work. While this is an upper echelon sushi place, it is not top tier, in that rarified air that only a handful of places occupy. The green tea relaxing guy was cute, but something added a slight soapy aspect to the green tea. Not enjoyable and it ruined the otherwise fine tea. The tempura needs some work, including the dipping sauce. The Hawaiian Poke salad appetizer was quite good, however. Could have done without the avocado, though, but easy enough to work around. Ginger was utterly excellent, though. The Kill Bill and Fire Dragon were a couple grace notes off, while the Spicy King had a weird sort of doughnut-y vibe to it. I suspect this was due to the highly over-sweetened, somewhat cloying eel sauce that seemed to bathe almost everything. Up until the Vampire, in fact, this was more pushing 3.5, but that roll definitely shoved it over. It was the only one that I didn't find myself adding either soy sauce or ginger or both to it. It wasn't enough to compensate for the other stuff or for us getting the bum's rush out the door (just as well, it's not like I need a dessert) or for the waitress forgetting to put in an order for one of the other rolls, but it definitely cemented the 4. I think this place still has a bit of dialing in to do for it to justify the pricing, but they are well on their way...

  • Joshua S.

I'm officially a fan. Rice was better today. Add to that everything else in my previous review, and you have a solid 4 stars. Service was top notch as always, and the K-Pop kept us entertained for a solid hour and a half. Ordered the Playboy, Alaskan, and Spicy Tuna. Loves me some spicy tuna and their version does not disappoint in the least. Not too spicy, good crunch in the romaine lettuce, and the sauce that spiced up the tuna was really good, with that nice hint of sesame oil. The Alaskan was also a pleasant surprise. Note: the Alaskan and Sunset rolls can be hit and miss, in regards to the lemon slices. The head chef, who was the chef for lunch today, does a great job - sliver thin and non obtrusive. On my last visit, the other sushi chef made my Sunset, and the lemon slices were, you guessed it, kinda thick. Not a deal breaker, but it's so nice when it's sensed, and not felt. I'm thinking this place is going to be around for a while.

I think I may have found my new sushi joint. Ever since moving to Utah, I have been on the hunt for a good sushi place. This place had very high marks with me. The restaurant is pretty small. When you enter the business, there is not even a placer to wait for your table. Luckily we had reservations and got in pretty quick. The atmosphere is amazing. Great Japanese decor throughout and even Japanese music videos playing on their TV's. All the staff were wearing traditional kimonos and other Japanese garb. You think that would be cheesy.. But I loved it. On to the food.. We ordered 4 rolls. I always go for the Vegas roll where ever I go. I like trying the different interpretations. Theirs was a bit unique. I think it was the tempura fry and also their Eel sauce. The tempura batter was a little sweeter then what I normally have. I liked it a lot though. This turned out to be a very tasty roll. We also got the Sushi Vampire. This roll was delicious with a generous amount of lobster on top. The flavor was great. The Romeo and Juliet was amazing. It had toasted coconut on top with coconut shrimp and mango. I normally don't go for the Mango rolls, but this came highly rated. It did not disappoint. This roll was probably the best roll of the night. The final roll was the Titanic roll. This roll was pretty delicious.. The tempura shrimp were good and the shrimp and crab were good as well. Overall, this place was great!! We will definitely be back and ready to try some new rolls.

Walked in on Tuesday night and were seated right away. Within 5 mins waiter took our order. 5 minutes later and we received our first roll. Soon after the next arrived and then the next. These guys are fast! The rolls were delicious. Some of the best I've had in Utah. Ordered the Vegas, Playboy, Lion King, and Fire bird. I would order al of them again. Total was $30 for 4 rolls. Half off prices were nice. We were done and out the door in like 40 minutes. Great service. Great food. We will definitely be back!

Not awful for a Friday night. This small little place had many full tables so we figured it would be great sushi. We ordered 5 rolls between the two of us. The fire dragon, the playboy, kill bill, lion king, and romeo and juliet. Loved all of them except the romeo and juliet which for some strange reason tasted like bread and butter. Got a coupon from restaurants.com and had a lovely night. service could be a bit slow even though the servers were almost running around. It's an old fashion place with rich tradition so some of that is expected.

this is a great place to eat sushi if you want a family atmosphere and more affordable sushi. my friend and i went on a tuesday night and surprisingly they had a special of 50% off select rolls that night. they were busy when we went, but we didn't have to wait too long for a table. i tried to order some rolls with some modifications to make it gluten free, but i think there was a miscommunication with our server. some of our sushi came out with sauce and roe on them, when i specifically asked for them on the side for my friend. i tried to explain that to my server, but she couldn't understand what was wrong, and i decided that i'd let it go and just depend on my hand rolls to eat instead. i managed to find a few pieces with no sauce which i tried and they were all good. the mafia was my favorite by far. i got a spicy tuna hand roll and it oddly came out with lettuce. since when is there lettuce in a hand roll? i still tried it, but the taste of the lettuce didn't add anything to my hand roll and i didn't enjoy it as much as i was hoping to. this place has very genuine service. even if the server couldn't completely understand my order, she was very nice. the sushi chef and several other employees all came by to thank us for coming and to ask how our food was. they care about their service here and you feel like you're eating at family's. i would give them 4 stars for being so nice (i'm a sucker for family run businesses), but they get docked a star for making my order wrong and not being able to correct it. go here if you have no food restrictions, enjoy friendly service, and want some affordable sushi (tuesday and wednesday nights). however, if you have any food allergies or restrictions, i'd recommend going elsewhere for your sushi. i did end up getting sick after eating here, but my friend didn't, so i'm pretty sure it's from accidentally eating gluten rather than the sushi itself.

This is by far my favorite sushi spot in all of Utah, and I've tried a whole lot. I normally don't write reviews but this place deserves all the positive reviews it can get. The service is amazing and I go about 2-3 times a month and the staff remembers me. Great service. They have amazing rolls and you really can't go wrong with any of them. My favorite roll is the Mafia roll, if you have not tried it you are missing out. Until next time Itto!

  • Jimmy W.

Coming into the place, you know it's gonna be good. Bamboo shutters, hanging paper lamps, and a bathroom that you have to pass through the kitchen to get to. On top of that, they have Japanese pop music videos playing on the TVS, so...obviously legit. The sushi was great and came out FAST. We got the Romeo and Julie (delicious with mango on top,) the Las Vegas (standard, lightly spicy, good,) and the Firebird (more hot, served on a flaming platter.) All were delicious. Recommend the Firebird for the novelty. I went with 4 stars because the prices are a little higher than I expected (not MUCH higher, but a bit) and it's taken us the longest time to get our check. A nice experience overall.

Simply the best sushi in the valley. We tried a new Itto creation today, the cheese cke romm. This amazing combination of tuna, avocado, spicy crab and chili oil ws presented like little rectangles of cheese cake. As always, we are amazed. The tuna nigiri today was especially awesome, and as always served with Itto's special homemade hand ground wasabi. I can't stress enough about how much they care about the quality of their food and service.

  • Charlotte S.

Service was wonderful. I recommend the sea-weed salad. The miso soup was tasty and the white tuna nigiri was yummy. I give this three stars because there weren't many wine choices and the white-tail tuna nigiri didn't have much taste (and the tips tasted almost still frozen). Overall, however, I would come here again.

Awesome sushi and awesome people there. Customer service was amazing. I tried this place once last week for lunch and had the gyoza and the firebird roll. I was so impressed that I kept bugging my husband to take me there for dinner. He enjoyed the food here. This will be our favorite sushi place in Utah. Yday evening, we ordered 2 miso soup, edamame, gyoza, 2 firebird, 2 romeo & juliet, playboy, lion king and custom ordered sushi grade seared albacore that came with side of rice and veggie tempura. We were so caught up in eating the rich favorable food, that I forgot to take a pic of the custom order. By far this is the place for sushi and I highly recommended it.

Soooo good!!! The service was outstanding!!!! Right when you walk in, all of the staff members greet you. (including the sushi chefs and servers). The cute server gave us a free miso soup and cinnamon flavor iced tea. It was sooooo good! Tonakatsu wasn't dry at all either. Definitely coming back for the food, service, and KPop music videos :)

Incredible sushi. You wouldn't expect it based on the look/location, but it's very good and a large variety. The atmosphere inside is causal, TVs with multiple channels. The J-roll and Vegas roll are my favorites, but their sashimi and house sauce is also very good. The staff and chef do everything to make it a nice experience, they've even served complimentary desserts once when we were there. This is our sushi place, and we drive 20 minutes for it every time.

  • Austin P.

The fish is flown in fresh, never frozen, and it's evident in the quality. I had the tuna nigiri sushi, and it was perfectly tender and fresh. The gyoza (potstickers) were tasty, but not as crispy as I usually like. Based on the reviews, I tried the vampire sushi and also tried the romeo and juliet. Both were fantastic. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. As we left, we were thanked by every employee we could see, including the chefs. I have no hesitation giving them 5 stars.

Food is always awesome, just avoid the 1/2 price sushi days and you will be fine. Service is great, I prefer to come for lunch as it is less crazy than at dinner time. Can't wait to return for more goodies.

I'm a big eater, I live in Utah for 4 years now. Eating is a big deal to me, so I've been looking for good Asian food in Utah for awhile now. This is the BEST sushi place in Utah, I tried Takashi, I tried Sunami and all the good sushi places in Utah. But this is my favorite! Couple things you need to know. 1. The fish are fresh, Itto (the owner) get the fresh fish every morning. 2. The price is great! Make sure to check theirs sushi discount dates. 3. The taste is really unique! Make sure to try theirs "Fire Bird" and "Sushi vampire" two of my favorites. 4. Customer service!!! Itto is pretty the best customer service I have ever receive in Utah. He is always so polite, and always finish his sentence with a bow. When they are busy and they keep you waiting for too long, he often give you some free stuff with a sorry. When the restaurant is not busy, Itto always give me some awesome treats to try. Like Sashimi (fish), or Nigiri (fish on rice). I come here at least once a week, even tho I live in Orem, the drive is 30 mins up. But it's totally worth it! So if you haven't try this place, you should!

Saturday night family dinner was a success. This sushi joint knows how to take care of their customers. Therefore, we will be back. It is not always easy dining with two little kids, but the lovely and sweet kimono clad ladies working that night sure tried their best to make it a great experience. We were able to make a reservation and were seated immediately. The server first off brought out miso soups for the kids, which pacified them and in turn made our lives easier. We ordered a tasty special roll, some poke tuna salad, agadashi tofu, tempura shrimp, and some salmon nigiri. The poke salad was delicious and filled with lots of fresh ripe mango chunks. The salmon nigiri was fresh and the fish portion was large. The tempura shrimp was less of a tempura batter and more of a panko breading. Even though I was slightly disappointed, my son gobbled up every single one of those shrimp. They even brought out a complimentary ice cream dessert for the table. Service was quick and we were in and out in an hour. We even ran into some neighbors at this place. Apparently it is the place to go for sushi in the Cottonwood Heights area. The restaurant itself is small. The tables are mostly 4 top, but a couple tables were moved together to make room for larger parties. Definitely check this place out.

Tell me why this sushi melts in your mouth? This sushi is DAMN good! Best I've had in a while. Not to mention, the service was fast!

very well presented sushi restaurant. my girlfriend recommended this place after going with her friend. I came in and was quickly greeted and seated (although i heard it does get busy at times). I ordered one of their sashimi boats, which from my opinion was some of the best sashimi I have ever had. It was brought by the head sushi chef himself and he explained that everything was fresh and never frozen. Great place to go, very great atmosphere they have jpop and kpop playing on their tv's which is something I haven't seen in Utah before so very unique and keeps you entertained until the food comes.
