Hunan City Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Wow. Hunan City is neither Hunan nor a city. This Chinese place was as backwater as the host's teeth were rotten. My boyfriend and I ordered the "Lucky" dinner menu only to find that the "chicken" didn't taste legit. Hours later, a very unfortunate reality: food poisoning. I won't even go into the details of how our service was bad or how it was inexcusable that we got old, infected, pseudo-meat as entrees. The fact is: this place is not sanitary. For the best in Chinese and buffet, head up to Cedar City's Hong Kong Buffet and put down ten bucks for some solid and parasite-free chow. AVOID HUNAN AT ALL COSTS. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED.

First off, the food was good, better then I expected based off the first 10 minutes of our visit. We almost left because: 1. We weren't asked what we wanted to drink for this span of time. It was 110 degrees and we were damn thirsty. 2. When asked if we wanted refills on our water, we said yes, and got sprite back. Gross. Good luck chasing the waitress down to remedy this. 3. Ham fried rice. It was tasty, but I have to know... Regional thing? In New England it's pork fried rice. This was little bits of pink ham. Like I said though, meals were good. Husband got sesame chicken, pleased with it. I got cashew broccoli, loved it!! On food alone I'd give it a 4.

Really good food and service. Also, one of the very few places that is open beyond 9 pm. Most satisfying and value for money meal of our road trip so far!

Stopped by for a quick dinner, only to be amazed by the awesome food. The food was exceptionally good and the service was quick and warm. Recommend it to all late night drivers looking for a satisfying snack.

It was pretty good non authentic Chinese food. But the waiter was soo confused and messed up what I asked for.

Have you ever heard of a Chinese restaurant with no duck sauce? Don't even ask to have vegetables added to your orange chicken. Chicken and rice only. Brown rice listed in the menu is a lie. No wine either. Waitress was completely lost and confused. Didn't even know the menu. Told us Won-ton soup was included in the dinner combo and then changed her mind. Charged us extra. Awful place.

There's not many choices in hurricane so we decided to take a chance on Hunan City. I wish we would've eaten at Wendys and I don't care for Wendy's. The Kung Pao sauce was OK but the chicken in our dishes was terrible. The texture was stringy and tough almost like freezer burned. Overall not a good experience.

Went over here with my buddy yesterday. I was blown away by there amazing amazing kung poa chicken on there lunch special. It was only 5.99. I also enjoyed the ham fried rice. Ive never tried it. But I enjoyed it very much. The speed and accuracy was great. Service was about a 7. But good food always makes a 5 star. Hahah. Ill be returning soon.

Great food for a restaurant that was pretty much in the middle of no where. We were the only ones in the restaurant though, and there was no music playing, so the atmosphere was a bit awkward which is why I gave it 4 stars.

Great place to eat... very authentic. Its a family-owned restaurant. Had amazing Schezuan chicken, Hot and sour soup.... Would definitely suggest anyone staying in Hurricane to check it out!

ordered to go, the woman I spoke with did not understand a word I was saying, why would you be answering the phone?, she handed me to a man, I was having a hard time understanding him. I ordered fried rice, sweet and sour pork, broccoli beef, salt and pepper beef, and hot and sour soup. picked up food and when we opened the food, fried rice was not in the bag... :-(... the food was okay....

Full takeout box of food. We had the kung pao delight which was pretty good. You really don't have much choices here. If this was in LA or SF, then. It would be a regular chinese restaurant. In Hurricane, it's one of the best places for chinese around.

We enjoyed every single moment in this restaurant after a 5hr hike in the Zion national park. It was almost 10pm and we were searching for food on the way from Zion to St. George where our motel was. When we were desperately driving into the Wendy's plaza in this small town, my bf magically saw the Hunan restaurant which was still open! As I walked in n asked about when they close, the owner welcomed us and said whenever you guys finish the meal, then showed us the secret Chinese-only menu. so we ordered salt n pepper steak, kung pao chicken, sichuan pork, garlic bokchoy and egg drop soup. The hot soup was as comforting as always. The steak was delicious, reminded us the free range cows we saw on the roadside, confirmed our question if the cows here taste better then the ones in California. Kung pao chicken was not quite authentic, but it was tasty, as well as the sichuan pork. It surprised me that they hav the chinese cabbage instead of the cantonese version bok choy, and that was extremely comforting after 2 days consumption of fast food straight. The owner was chatty, as we were finishing up, he came out and talked about his old days in SF where we came from. BTW, I got the most dramatic & coincident fortune cookie saying there. To wrap it up, it is a must stop if you are Chinese and you are on a road trip to Zion & Bryce from Vegas.

I don't like chow mien much, but the chicken chow mien blew my mind. I've been here twice on my trips to Zion. Prices are low, low. I got out of there for about 10$--I was solo. I love that the Grand Opening sign has been up for a few years now. Maybe they are reinventing themselves. :)

  • Katie P.

Decent food, good portions, but very slow service. Nothing to get excited over, but as the only Asian food in town...we'll probably go again someday. The Grand Opening sign has been up more than two years now.

We had two meals; nothing we found good. And the soup (egg flower I think) was about 20 per cent large kernal corn. Corn? Really? No second chance for us.

  • Joel M.

Hunan City is one of those near-perfect Chinese places... family run, inexpensive, friendly and exactly the food you expect, no surprises but tasty... just what you need after a long day on the road. And it's almost as good reheated the next morning!

    (4)
  • Gaik Boon H.

Would give a 4 if the owner is more passionate to serve us despite we arrive 10mins before closing hour. We understood we are the only customers, that's why we ordered all our meal to go. The sun has not gone down as it's summer. Maybe will give better review next time (if we go there again - if....)

The family was starving on the way back from Zion national park. Yelped several locations and was up in the air about China Buffet or Hunan city. We decided to go for fresh food instead and we were very happy about the choice!! Must try the Shrimp/beef/chicken crunchy noodle!!! very authentic!! The service is def. slower then a buffet, but the food is fresh and worth the wait!

Just got home with a to go order of mystery meat and broccoli. The color was not even close to that of beef. We've been regulars here for many years with an on again off again relationship. Service and quality is so spotty. This was my last meal there. Should gone to Durangos.

I have eaten here a few times and I have always enjoyed my meal. The food was good and the prices reasonable. It's where I go when I want Chinese food.

  • Tip T.

Food was ok. Big portions! Hot and sour soup, black pepper beef, double cooked pork and bok choy. Too much for the 3 of us even though the owner suggested any less would not be enough. Slow but friendly service. There were only 2 parties during dinner and we were pretty much left alone when the workers started to have their own dinner.

  • Adam H.

Terrible place. Gag me with a spoon terrible. Plus the owner ran the Pizza cart in front of the strip mall away because he didn't want the competition. What?

We drove to Hurricane while staying near Zion and looking for somewhere to eat on Yelp when we came across Hunan City. We really enjoyed the food, the portion sizes were huge and the prices were great! The owners were very friendly and nice, gave us great service and the restaurant looked clean. If we ever go back to this area we'd definitely eat there again!

If you are driving to Bryce via Zion, then this place is on your way. Standard chinese fare, with some vegetarian options. The owner runs this place, and we got really great service. Food was OK

It was pleasantly surprised to have found this restaurant. My mom is not so used to Western foods. We have been looking for a decent Asian meal for the past 4 days. This is a very nicely decorated chinese restaurant. This place is brand new having opened for only a couple of months. The owner came out to greet every table. I think he is also a chief. The service is great. And the food is very tasty too. Big portion and reasonable price. Overall, this is a nice little gem in the town of Hurricane.

Great Chinese food! I talked to the manager, he was very kind and honest. He is a great chef with 28 years experience! I will definitely recommend it to my friend who want to travel at Zion park or antelope canyon.

We were visiting Zion and we had the urge to eat Asian food. This is the only closest Asian restaurant in this area with good ratings we were extremely Happy with the food & service. We tried hot n sour soup curried chicken & veggies everything was fresh and tasty. Also quite cheap

  • Rosa N.

The good: friendly staff, no wait, affordable pricing, and good food. The bad: outdated decor and gross bathrooms. I was pleasantly surprised to see that we had to actually wait for our food to be cooked and it was not instant like most Chinese restaurants. We ordered the mapo tofu and sweet and sour pork. Both were pretty good considering this is Utah. The ingredients were fresh and the portion sizes were large. We also had the egg drop and hot and sour soup. Both were a bit watery but with a bit of salt they turned out pretty good too. If it were Houston, I probably would not return but I think it's pretty good for Utah and would easily return again if I were back in the area.

My GF and I left Zion late at night looking for a place to eat but mostly everything was closed near the park. That, and after a couple of days eating near the park we were sick of the food (and the prices). So we drove to Hurricane (past 10 pm) looking for a restaurant and yep, everything closed. Saw Wendy's and was about to go there when we saw the Open sign for this restaurant. Door said they close at 9 pm, but we peek in and ask if they are open and the owner, a poor soul with really bad, missing and rotten teeth, said yes that they stay open as long as they have business. The place is a little run down, but acceptable. Sat down and ordered Mongolian beef and sweet and sour shrimp. For the price both plates had excellent meat to vegetable ratios. Anytime I see more meat than veggies I am usually quite happy. We finished, left a nice tip, and I told the rotten teeth owner that this was the best food we've had all week and that he should move closer to the park. He said he tried once but rent there is so much that he would have to triple his prices. The owner was a really nice sweet guy, despite his teeth, and the food was good. Will go back again next trip to Zion. Let's all give this guy more business so he can get some implants!

We stay in the town for one night before going to the Zion national park. The food was fine but the service was terrible. They add 18% tip to your credit card without letting you know. I would not suggest anyone to go there if you just came for visit.

The food here is good, beyond my expectation. I didn't expect to have good Chinese food in Utah. We got Mu Chu Gai pan (stir fried chicken with a mushroom in light sauce), Ma Po tofu and stir fried Bok choi. Everything was good!!!

Amongst all the Chinese style buffets in the area, this place was a breath of fresh air. When I walked in, I was pleasantly greeted by the staff. The menu is pricy for the area, but for the food qualify, I would gladly pay the price. The food is fairly authentic, similar to Chinese food that I order in Chinatown in Los Angeles. The shrimp dishes are plump, juicy, and very flavorful. The vegetable dishes are always fresh. If you're looking for REAL Chinese food, don't bother with the local buffets. This is the place to go.

I had the seafood hot plate. It came out steaming hot. It was very tasty. Would have liked to have had real crab instead of imitation. The rest of the seafood was very good. Would definitely order it again. The young lady serving us was delightful and amusing. She sampled some of the seafood to. I like it when young people try different foods. She was a great sport about it. We joked with her and she was quick to catch on and join in on the banter. It was a good meal out. Decor could use some improving. Looks don't match the quality of the food. Thankfully we prefer less trendy places.

We were spending Christmas at Zion, and we drove in to Hurricane on Christmas Eve for provisions. Since we were already in town, we decided to uphold our tradition of eating Chinese on Christmas Eve. Hello, Hunan City! Maybe it was because it was a holiday, and maybe because we were on vacation, but this restaurant just hit all the right notes with us. We had the large family meal with Lemon Chicken and Mongolian Beef. The food was not mind-blowing by any stretch, but it was a good, solid Chinese meal, and we had no complaints. I'm assuming our server was in training, as she seemed flustered and confused most of the night, but she was so adorable in her flustered state and so friendly that we liked her anyways. This is pretty much on par with any other family-owned Chinese place anywhere else, and we left happy and full.

The resteraunt seemed a little depressing from the outside but the food was actually very good and the service was excellent. The lunch special is also a great deal. We had the Kung Pao chicken and the cashew broccoli. The portions were enormous.

We stopped in after returning fron Bryce, so it was late. We ordered beef fried rice, Mongolian beef and beef with crispy noodles. The beef in all the dishes were fresh and very tender. Plenty of onions in 2 of the entrees. The fried rice was average, but the crispy noodles were not what I expected. They were the packages type and needs no cooking. Overall, about expected considering where we were.

We ordered the garlic bok Choy, curry chicken, Ma po tofu, and sesame chicken lunch special. We enjoyed everything- especially the bok Choy and mo po tofu. The sesame chicken was a little over breaded but the sauce was good. The curry chicken was also tender. Reasonably priced (especially compared to SF) and good big portions.

Dining room is outdated but seems clean. We placed an order to go. It was ready when they said it would be and large portions for the price. Staff was very friendly and attentive.

So awful. If you've watched any Southpark, just say aloud this restaurant name with the SP accent and that's exactly what it is. There is NO WAY this is edible or authentic food. I really didn't expect much from the looks of the place or because it's located in an area place devoid of food options. I got the mushu pork and it was like eating candy: gross, syrupy, overly sweet disgusting candy covered pieces of pork stuff. And the vegetables in the dish just sopped up all that disgustingness. The flour wraps that came with it were stuck together and brittle. I didn't even bother trying them ; I just picked it up and plopped that brick back down.

Food is good here, but service very slow. Asian food is usually cooked very fast. They took a really long time.

Didn't try too much Mongolian beef was tasty. The other chicken sauce was a little over breaded and over sauced.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
