Smokin Bones BBQ Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

While traveling one thing we do is look for a BBQ place to try. Smokin Bones was the best BBQ we have had in a long time. We tried the brisket, pulled pork and the ribs. Our favorites were the pulled pork and brisket. The family that runs the operation is very friendly and make sure that you get what you want and that you enjoyed it. We were too stuffed to try the desert after the cornbread and potato salad but I imagine they would be great.

Yay! i yummy BBQ place close to my house! I am a big fan of this place, and i will certainly be going back again and again! I got a 3 meat combo with Ribs, Brisket, and Pork. The Brisket was awesome, though tough in a few places and lacking a really nice bark i like to see on my brisket (though the rub was quite flavorful). The pork was very good though not as smokey as i am inclined to, it was however very tender, very moist, and quite filling! The ribs on the other hand i was not as impressed with. The flavor was good, but again not very smokey, and the rub wasnt noticeable. The biggest issue with the ribs is that the small bones on the end were poorly trimed and i was picking lentil to pea sized bones out of almost every single bite. My wife ordered the Navajo taco, and HOLY CRAP it was AMAZING! It starts off with a HUGE deliciously flavored fry bread, topped wiht mozzerella cheese, top that with their sweet and smokey baked beans and then a hefty helping of Brisket and then lovingly garnished with a generous amount of their midwest style Sweet Tangy BBQ sauce.... ya youre drooling i can tell... I actually ended up liking that entree more than my plate, and we have agreed that in the future we will probably just stop by and grab one of those to share. It was easily the best Navajo Taco ive ever had, and one of my favorite entrees at any restaurant, anywhere, ever! The reason i docked them one star was because there were some technical "party fouls" like the bones in the ribs, the lack of a strong crust on the brisket and the barely present smoke ring on the pork (which i will note is not the end all of technique and flavor as is a common myth). The owner is very nice and he will have a chat with you about their processes and history, and even give you some sraps to test over the counter. you can tell that he really loves what hes doing and they work hard to try and cultivate a loyal cliental. All in all this place was really good, and they do some pretty strong work, though some of it seems like it needs some more years to cultivate their flavors techniques and style. As a note I recently went to "Rolling Smoke BBQ" in Vegas which has been touted as one of the best BBQ places in the U.S., and my main takeaway from the experience is that our awesome BBQ places here in UT like Smokin Bones, R&R, Sugarhouse and Pats are all really underrated and belong at or above the hype level of Rollin Smoke. These guys know what they are going and churn out some delicious BBQ and some tasty pizzas in their custom made oven **updated 09/2015 *based on many more visits to Smokin Bones I have decided to update my review from 4 stars to 5!!! I have never since had the small bones issue with the ribs, and the food and service has been consistently awesome every time I have been.

Not really in par with other big names in Utah (Bam Bams, R&R, Five Star) I had the 2 meat plate for $14 (after tax). This included beef brisket, and turkey with bbq beans and cornbread on the side. I think the first cardinal rule when it comes to authentic bbq is you always include buttered toast and a pickle with the meal. These niceties where not observed. The brisket lacked a good rub, remaining on the bark. The consistency was similar to a corned beef. The brisket did not show tell tale signs of careful smoking. All in all, the brisket was a mushy mess, and needed some better direction. The turkey tasted and had the consistency of an obvious brine. There was no smoke line, the fat content of the turkey was non existent and thus had no savor. The beans tasted just like Bush's canned beans. And the cornbread had nothing fantastic to report either. This restaurant carries a bbq name, but lacks the bbq flare. The meats I tasted here would not last an entry round at a Kansas City judging panel.

If you come to Utah for nothing else, you've got to come and eat at this place Super Yummy!!! I had the 3-meat plate with brisket, turkey, and pulled pork. My sides were cornbread and creamed corn. Everything was DELISH!!! I tried the ribs too from my mother-in-laws plate . SERIOUSLY!!! Let's just say I have enough leftovers to feed a small nation... or at least lunch for the next 2 days. Ya Gotta Come Here!!!!!

I am giving this place a four star because it's good food, had good service, and the price was decently priced. I got the chicken and it was exceptional. The vibe is super relaxed and really worked for me. If you're in the area this BBQ spot is the best in bountiful for sure. Give it a try. You won't regret it. Do notice it's a bit more expensive for the area but that's what good BBQ costs. So just pay a little more and have really good food.

Fabulous, Best BBQ in northern Utah! Only a bigger parking lot could make it better.

  • Nichole C.

The best BBQ north of SLC. Lots of flavor, tender meat, nice portions. No need to even use the BBQ sauce on your meat. I recommend the steak burger or the two meat plate. All of the sides are delicious.

We ordered smoked turkey breasts for Thanksgiving and it was honestly better than my champagne turkey (a much requested recipe). I may give up cooking a turkey from now on to have the smoked turkey instead. Yummm! Thanks Kile for offering this to your patrons!

Had a chance to eat lunch here while on a business trip. I travel all over the western US and try to grab some bbq wherever I go. I smoke meats at home and would consider myself a bbq junkie. Easily some of the best brisket I've had in my travels. Moist with a solid rub which was not too salty. A- The turkey was also very juicy with excellent flavor. A The ribs were a bit overcooked in my opinion and as a cook who uses lots of different flavors on my ribs I found them a bit bland, but this is a matter of personal taste and you may find them just right. B- Family owned and run, the people here are very friendly and I had personal conversations with 4 of them and was given a tour of their smokers. Ambience and staff - A+ I don't write reviews often, but I enjoyed the food and the friendly proprietors and will return on my next trip to Salt Lake City. (Which lucky for me is in two weeks)

For Utah BBQ, I actually really like this place. Their unique dishes make me want to come back for more. I love their Navajo taco. So yummy.

This food is sooooo good! I'm sitting eating it right now and it's some of the best bbq I've ever had! All they need is the sauce available for customers to have as much as they want! It's that good! The brisket is ridiculous, the pork is fabulous and the cornbread is great! The owners are awesome people and it's a great place

Been here numerous times after hearing about them from X96 RFH remote. Good BBQ overall, meats and sides are pretty typical from other several BBQ joints in Davis and SLC county. BUT what I like a lot about Smokin Bones is the Steak Burger!

Smokin Bones was a tough place to review and I thought hard on whether this should be a 3 or a 4 star review, especially since I like to support family run businesses in general. It is made harder due to the fact that downtown Salt Lake has some really awesome BBQ places that are inherently my measure of good BBQ food in Utah and only a few miles from here. Add to that a few minor niggles and I elected that 3 is fairer. This place is a little lacking in atmosphere, and while the bull themed pizza oven in the far corner is an interesting twist I don't come somewhere like this for pizza, I come for BBQ. This place just doesn't do anything that would prevent it being compared to your average strip mall chain. Part of experiencing good BBQ is atmosphere, so this detracted from the experience for me. However, the ultimate test is the food, and I'm glad to report it's not bad overall. Pulled Pork was decent, but nothing special, the brisket on the other hand was very succulent and tasty and would definitely be something I would get here again. My only gripe with the brisket is it is pulled also, not sliced, but I know some people prefer that, it just doesn't give textural variety when you get it with the pulled pork. I also got ribs as part of a 3 meat plate. They were alright, but since you have to get 3 meats for ribs to be an option I would not bother again - they were small and somewhat lacking in flavor. There are much better places for ribs than this. For sides I had BBQ baked beans which were very good and cornbread. The latter was served cold, and while a large portion, nothing special. One final gripe - they don't take AmEx. Any good business should accept all payment methods. Many of us don't use debit cards (for safety) or carry cash since our credit cards give us rewards too, and while it does not factor into my rating, the attitude from the server left something to be desired. However, if you live in or find yourself in Bountiful and don't want to make the trek downtown, this is a decent place and worth a try.

The ribs are delicious, the brisket to die for, the sausage so juicy. The scones melt in your mouth. The customer service is outstanding. We called in a large order on Valentines Day and they had it ready for us. We'll definitely be back.

Great bbq! Owner's really nice. He even sat at our table because we talked to him about how he got into the business of bbqing. Brisket is the best! Not to mention, my daughter loves the Pig in a blanket dogs. We'll be back!

After seeing my previous review was taken down I feel it is my duty to post another review... and I will make it simple. Ribs - 4 stars - moist, good seasoning & they fall off the bone. If you go, go for the ribs Navajo taco - 2 stars - I'm not sure what it was but BBQ on flat bread just didn't work for me Pulled Pork - 3 stars - it was good, but not excellent Brisket - 1 star - please serve it sliced or chopped Sauce - 1 star - not for me, it's just too sweet for me Sides (slaw) - 4 stars - the slaw and ribs is what I would get when I return Owners & staff - 4 stars - they are involved and have a passion for BBQ Overall I think the place is good, but when you have other options for bbq that are much better why settle for average.

I've worked a couple bbq places now and always stop at every small bbq joint I can and though the ribs my brother in law had were amazing and the brisket was moist and perfect their pulled pork needs work! It was kind of dry otherwise I would have given more stars! That pulled pork has to be good! Also I'm sure other people like the buns but I thought they were really dense. Either way, friendly atmosphere, really cool building and the staff are friendly. Overall it was a good little bbq joint and I look forward to trying more of what they have to offer!

  • Melinda C.

Best BBQ in Utah! I had the two meat plate. Brisket and pork. I judge BBQ meat by the need for sauce. This meat had ZERO need! Moist and tender with every bite! I did dip the sauce to taste and it too was perfection. For sides, I enjoyed the potato salad and baked beans. Both on point! I put them to the final test with an order of cornbread. Again, they did not disappoint! Soft, and moist with a perfect golden crust. All of this washed down with not too sweet tea. I will be going back for sure! This is a strictly family owned joint with a ton of love in what they do! Do yourself a favor and give it a try! Side note: my Husband had the Navajo Taco...HUGE, but fun and tasty! The mix of the sweet fry bread and the savory sauce was a treat. But, make sure to show up hungry!

Kyle is the bbq king and I've drempt of the ribs (very big/meaty) since I went. I'm not a huge meat eater but they were the best ribs I've ever had and I want more! They sell out of them some days and can't just whip them up so get them at lunch for sure. This is the real deal. You'll find Kyle out back, big smokers, a warehouse full of wood and very friendly staff. If you get a chance to chat with them out back, you should. It really made my experience. Don't let Kyle's bad boy image scare you, he's a sweetheart. I thought the wait was long for the style of food (already made). The sides were good but I wasn't blown away. People love the steak burger but I'm more of a purist. I love the personality of the place - they made a pizza oven that looks like a bull. It's pretty unique. Some people make food, other people are artists. I truly think Kyle is an artist and I'm happy to have such delicious bbq closer to home.

I'm going to echo Jon M.'s sentiments... For Bountiful- smokin' bones is tops. But if you compare it to anyplace in SLC, it's not that great. My husband ordered a two meat plate. He was handed a styrofoam container, containing his meal; even though we were dining in. I wasn't a fan of that practice. It seems wasteful. So, when he opened the container, there was so little meat; that he thought they had forgotten to add one of his meats. But nope. They assured him that it was all there. $13 for a skimpy serving of meat doesn't earn them any points, in my book. I had an order of hot wings. They were generous with the sauce. However, I wasn't "digging" their sauce recipe. Too much vinegar for my taste. And the wings hadn't been trimmed very well. The cornbread, again, not fantastic. Cold. At first I was puzzled as to why the place was so busy?! But then I remembered, I was in Bountiful. If you need a BBQ "fix", and you have to have it in Bountiful, then Smokin' Bones will do. For me, personally, I won't return. I can't believe I'm saying this... But I'd pick Dickey's BBQ over this place. You get more for your money @ Dickey's.

My wife and I went there for lunch and it wasn't crowded at all. As we stood there looking at the menu, we were approached by one of the staff (Sheryl). She was very friendly and asked if we had been there before. Then she gave us a run down of the menu and gave us recommendations. We ordered the 3 meat meal. The service was immediate. We had our food in less than a minute. We got the ribs, brisket, and pulled pork. The sides were creamed corn and baked beans. Everything was delicious! The ribs fell off the bone, the brisket was nice and juicy, as was the pulled pork. The sauce is pretty good. It isn't the best I've had. It was still good though. My least favorite was the beans. They were better than a lot of other places. I would recommend they put some pork in the beans to give it more texture and flavor. Great place, great food, great service. I will be coming back here. This is our new favorite bbq place.

If you're looking for good BBQ in Bountiful, this is a good place to hit up. There are better places in SLC, but for the area it's good. Also, it's family owned and I support that. Meat is decent, but the cornbread is what stood out to me. I don't know if we were just special and had warm cornbread or what, but honestly, this is some of the best cornbread I've had in Utah and I LOVE cornbread... I went to R&R BBQ in SLC and the meat was good. But, they didn't serve cornbread. I was immediately turned off forever. I don't care how good your meat is, if you can't give me a piece of cornbread with it, you won't have my business. You can call me crazy, but you obviously haven't had a good piece of cornbread. Now I just need to find a place in Utah that serves cornbread in a skillet, straight out the oven. I thought the serving sizes were decent. The pork is a bit salty, but nothing outrageous. The ribs are good. Brisket is a bit dry, but better than other brisket I've had in this state. Overall, decent place to eat.

My husband and I went there for the first time on Friday, the ribs were delicious, my husband had the 3 meat plate, he loved it, the beans and coleslaw were also top notch, the service was great! If you want great BBQ I highly recommend this place! We will definitely be going back!

  • Seth J.

Pats barbecue no more this place rocks absolutely the best barbecue in Utah and service but you better get there early on Friday or Saturday because they will run out only because it's fresh

  • Christine C.

This place is pretty good. Both my husband and I ordered the two meat plate and the servings are very generous. I loved the barbeque beans and the pulled pork, brisket, and cornbread were good. One thing that was kind of weird was the lady who took our order at the counter asked us if we wanted to purchase any Canadian candy bars for dessert. I am not sure where the Canadian candy bars fit in at a BBQ joint. Another odd thing was the barefoot children hanging around behind the counter and around the restaurant. I assume they were the children of one of the employees there? Ultimately the food was good and I was happy to support a local company. I would try it again.

Poor parking, great service, awesome bbq beans - pulled chicken sandwich was terrible. Terrible quality of meat. It was in large, gross chunks on a bun. Cost me $9.59 for a very small portion of beans, nasty meat on a bun, and tap water. They have potential, but need to improve quality of meat, portion size, and pricing.

Tasty tasty tasty!! First time visit last night with my friend who has RAVED about this place. It's not much from the outside, but once inside, you can smell that smokey goodness. The menu is limited, but who wants a bunch of different items here? It's barbecue people! I had the three meat plate; ribs, brisket and chicken. The chicken was melt in your mouth tender and the ribs fell off the bone. The brisket was good too. I had the cornbread and slaw for my sides and was pleased with both. It's all served in a to go container which was nice since there was so much food, I had leftovers. The staff was friendly and looked like they loved their jobs. That's always a bonus in my book. In all, an A+++ experience!

Savory meats and delicious fried bread. This place is some of the best BBQ I've had in Utah. I would definitely recommend the Steak Burger if you don't know what to get. Really everything here is good though. One thing to consider, however, is that you won't get served very quickly. Obviously good BBQ takes time to cook, so expect a little bit of a wait to get your food.

There is not one thing that I have tried at Smokin Bones that is not absolutely delicious. From the meats, to the beans and cornbread. Everything is homemade from scratch, and man can you taste it. The owners are the nicest people you will ever meet, and go out of their way to have great service, and great food. It makes you smile from your head to your toes when you eat at Smokin Bones.

Hmmm...not really sure where to start with this place. I guess my standards are really high for BBQ b/c I am Texan but it seems from other reviews people really like this place. Also, it was pretty crowded when I was there. Anyway, as far as the sides are concerned, I had potato salad and baked beans. The potato salad was okay but some of the big chunks of potatoes felt hard and not fully cooked. Now then, the beans....whoa, these are straight out of the can Bushes Baked Beans! No, I'm not kidding...Onion flavor to be exact! On to the meat...I had the 3 meat consisting of pulled pork, baby back ribs and sliced brisket. All the meat was fairly moist and not dry. However, the brisket was not trimmed and had a LOT of fat. Also, the old timer cutting the meat precisely measured Every. Single. Piece. of meat...and I mean down to the 0.0001 oz! He actually put a piece back that was about the size of a quarter! The sauces were pretty good but we were told that good BBQ doesn't need any sauce. This is very true and for this place I had to ask for more sauce! Like I said my standards are pretty high. So, I don't wanna insult too many of the locals that love this place but if it were in Texas, it'd only be -1 star. First BBQ sin committed here: never measure your portions. The portions are a handful depending on how big the 'ol boy is you're feeding. Second BBQ sin: NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER under ANY circumstances serve canned beans! I go to some BBQ joints back home just for their beans. Make your own and make 'em good or don't serve 'em at all. Other than these sins, the place is warm and cozy and has a pizza oven... Which also confused me a little! The staff is friendly and it is very clean. Oh yeah, did I mention never to serve canned beans?

First time here and had the brisket sandwich, beans, coleslaw, cornbread and sweet tea. I am no barbecue expert, but found the sandwich unremarkable. Not enough BBQ sauce. It was served less than Luke warm. The meat was stringy, dry and yet soggy to chew. Does that mean it has been soaking in water? Not sure why there are rolls of paper towels on the table; not enough sauce to even cover the sandwich bun, let alone be messy enough to need a towel for clean up. I liked the beans the best. Corn bread and coleslaw ok. $17 for this lackluster gastronomic adventure, kind of on the steep side. There may be other things offered here that may be redeeming. Not worth an investment by me to find out though.

Amazing! We had the navajo taco and seriously so so yummy! We will definitely go.back there. The owner was so nice too

  • Matthew W.

The food here is great. The Navajo taco will fill you right up. Both the pizza and burger were excellent as well. After filling up on brisket with beans and cornbread on the side I was ready for a meat nap. My only knock against them is they are fairly slow at times. Everyone seems to gol at a leisurely pace but at least they're real nice about it.

A friend recommended this restaurant to me. I didn't expect much because Utah is not known for its barbecue but I was pleasantly surprised. The meet was tender, the marinade and glaze had the perfect taste, The servers were friendly, and the menu had some great options. This is in the top three barbecue joints I have ever been to. I highly recommend this place.

Was told by a few to come try their BBQ. I'm glad I did. I like authentic Smoked BBQ, so I can spot a rushed job where there is one. This place can hold their own. I got the Steak Burger, and if I had to pick a burger to eat that'd be the one. Very good, although I wasn't manly enough to do the double. (You can special order a triple or even quadruple if you're 'Crazy Eye' enough). My wife got the meat plate to try them all. I have to be honest, I only ate half my burger. The Ribs rock my world. Fall off the bone good, and oh so tender with an amazing flavor. I'll be getting ribs next time and I suggest you add some to your plate as well.

Waited in line for 30 min only for them to tell me they were out of everything but turkey. This was at 7 pm so not at the end of a shift by any means. Ended up waiting another 20 min for a BBQ cheese pizza and walked out with my tail between my legs. Pizza was fine but I'll make the drive down to slc next time for BBQ. Overall system seemed chaotic with orders not being run to correct locations, gift cards not being transacted, and orders being written on the cashiers wrist/forearm.

We decided to check this pace out tonight. The brisket and chicken were really good. I asked to try their Carolina BBQ sauce and it was delicious as well. The place appears to be run by a family and they're very friendly and the service is great.

FINALLY! Real Southern Barbecue in a great family atmosphere has reached the north side of the valley. Bountiful has new home for slow smoked Beef, Pork, Wings and even Brick oven Pizza, BBQ style. They are only a couple months into it, but are making the art of friendly, down home southern Barbecue with full flavor and listening to customers to a whole new level. They are weekly adding new menu items as their faithful customers recommend additional items. This past week, they added Navajo Taco. Topped with slow smoked Brisket is so good. Never would have thought of that. I had the Steak Burger and at first glance, I thought it was on the small size, but after a few bites, I was hooked. It is now one of my favorite burgers in Utah. High quality meat topped with pulled pork and melted cheese. Yumm. Give them a try and stay long enough for the complimentary chocolate dipped cookies that one of the family members will bring around your table as they ask how they can make your experience even better. They are so attentive to their customers. I will definitely make this a regular BBQ stop for me and my family. No need to head to Salt Lake City for Pat's every time (not knocking Pat's, just sayin this is on par with them on quality meat and sauces). Highly recommend.

They run out food which says two things , it is fresh and it is good. The location is not great and parking I'd at premium. That is the only thing I can complain about, the food is amazing.

  • Mike B.

Eh. Overpriced and only moderately good. I made sure to order quite a few things to get a full experience but it just wasn't anything out of the ordinary. I love my barbecue- and for Bountiful its decent. I got my order to go and they don't give you very much sauce, which was a complete downer. Cornbread was a plus.

This is some fine Christian food, that any southern man/woman would appreciate. I would certainly recommend giving it a go, just probably avoid busy times.

  • Charli G.

The service was pretty unfriendly and impatient with basic questions. The menu is very limited and there really arent options for kids. Their kids menu was pigs in a blanket or a scone. Very poor kids menu. The food was very over priced. It was $8 for 4 oz of brisket. This did not include any sides or anything else. Atmosphere inside is bland. I won't be going back. Definitely not worth the money.

So Ive been into this place over 8 times in the last 2 months and the double Burger, Ribs, are amazing. Everything is good but my favorite is his smoked food is amazing. The burger has shredded pork on top of the burger pattty, If you want the ribs be sure to pre-order the day before and make sure your name is on one since it usually runs out daily since he makes it fresh.

4 stars because it's in Bountiful, which is honestly one of the worst towns along the Wasatch Front for food. If we're talking about statewide I would give it 3 stars. Nationwide, 2.5. As others have indicated, these guys are really new at this, and they have a lot to learn, but they are definitely worth supporting. I've read comments about disappointing service. In my experience they are anxious to provide great service, to the extent that it slows them down. Also the 8:00 closing time is really disappointing. I realize that staying open later costs money and family time, but it is HARD to keep an independent restaurant open in Bountiful, and limited hours will not make it any easier. The food is good. One of the best options in Bountiful for any cuisine. But I can name 4 or 5 places in Utah with better BBQ. (I have enjoyed BBQ in Kansas, Tennessee, and the Carolinas, but I'm grading on a local curve here.) My sister told me about this place, and if she hadn't I might have never seen it. She told me a funny story about not having any salt available (plenty of pepper at every table, but out of salt), and when they asked for some the guy in the back jokingly brought out a box of kosher salt. But when I went the next day I also felt the need to add salt and there was very little at the table. Here's the thing: if most of your customers want to add salt to your BBQ, you're doing something wrong. So many people are here that salt is hard to come by. Again, the food is good, but it's not quite "there" yet. I am certain I'll be going again, and soon, but only because there isn't much else in Bountiful, and because I want to support these guys. I trust the food and experience will only get better.

So good. Went with my mother. I had the fall off the bone BBQ ribs, cornbread and coleslaw. My mom had the chicken wings and potato salad. My mom is already planning a return trip!

Friendly service, delicious brisket, exceptional cole slaw. Too few side dishes to choose from, though. Only three...the two previous and baked beans. All three loaded with sugar. Not many tables for two, arrive early as tables fill quickly on Fri and Sat nights. Sauce is wonderful, pork and brisket delicious.

Smokin Bones BBQ was a fantastic choice for lunch. The joint was packed the entire time we were in there. The BBQ was so delicious. I had the double steak burger and was unable to eat the full meal which included two sides. It was conveniently served in a to-go box which was very handy to pack my leftovers. They have an awesome longhorn bull oven where they cook their pizzas. (Kids would love it) The staff was very friendly and greeted everyone that came in. Very personal touch in the food prep and delivery, you can tell that they love to BBQ and the quality of the food they serve is a true testament on their commitment to taste. If you are hungry and anywhere near the Bountiful area you must stop at Smokin Bones and let them fix you up with a meal. I will definately be back for more. Big thanks to the gang at Smokin Bones for the amazing food!!

You cannot go wrong with Smokin Bones. Everything is great. My kids love the BBQ Nachos and the BBQ pizza. I always get the brisket with extra BBQ. I am thrilled that Bountiful finally has a great BBQ place.

Ok so this is not a good place for dieters unless it's a protein diet you on of course, however, the place rocks! I've heard mention of the steak burger from several friends and finally had to break down and try it. If I was on death row it may be my request for a final meal. The bun is soft, the steak burger holds up well to the pulled pork and sauce they top it with. Then you get the sides some baked beans done right and amazing corn bread was well worth it. Now to top it all off Kyle is from Canada (as is my mom) and they had coffee crisps and big Turks you could buy for dessert. Bravo Kyle. All in all the people are nice and awesome, the smell of the place makes you hungry, and the food is amazing. 5 stars no doubt.

I got the pulled pork BBQ sandwich and it was amazing. Greg one of the owners was friendly and passionate about the quality and style of the food. Going back and bringing my family and friends with me!

I had lunch here yesterday. I pulled in and the first thing I saw was a smoker that was bigger than my car, parked in front, spewing smoke. The place was very clean and tidy. The servers were very polite and efficient. I ordered ribs, beans, and potato salad. The ribs came in a styrofoam box, with bbq sauce. There was a roll of paper towels on every table. The meat was fall-off-the-bone cooked, but moist, very tender, very smoky. Wow. These were as good a rack of ribs as I have ever eaten anywhere, anytime. The beans were well made, but my favorite was the potato salad. Very well made. I can't wait to try the cole slaw next time I'm here. Congratulations to the chef/owner on superb, artful cooking.

Stopped by Smokin Bones last weekend and was very pleasantly surprised. Between the two of us, my husband and I had pulled pork, brisket, sausage, cole slaw, and cornbread. The meats were juicy and very flavorful. The BBQ sauce was delicious but given only in very small quantities. The cole slaw was very crispy and tasty, and the cornbread moist and warm. I do wish the menu were a little more extensive. The only "sandwich" on the menu was a burger, and the only sides were slaw, beans, or cornbread, or a green salad. I was hoping for a pulled pork sandwich and a potato option for the side. Overall, however, it was a great experience and we'll return.

Don't walk run to this place! I'm always looking for a good BBQ joint and this place is fantastic. I always get the brisket. I've been meaning to try the other food because I've heard it's amazing but always end up getting the brisket. The coleslaw and potato salad are my favorites sides. Love that it's a family owned business.

For Utah is very good. For Bountiful is excellent. Compared to family run BBQ joints in the South....we can only dream.

Smoker in the parking lot: good. Smell of smoke in the restaurant: good. Incredibly friendly (they kept this from being a 2 star review), but not particularly speedy staff: mostly good. Decor, featuring what I'm going to call a MInotaur pizza oven: excellent. It started off so wonderful and I really REALLY wanted to like this place more, being, as I was, in the mood for some BBQ today. Drink selection was a misfire, though they have the acceptable Diet Dr. Pepper. Cornbread pieces were huge, tasted ok, but were served cold, on top of pats of cold butter...this, actually, is endemic of this place...tons of potential, but a lot of execution misfires. Take, for example, the ribs. They very clearly had a rub on them, but were served wet, almost as if they'd been steamed. The pieces were very nice, large and meaty, but they did not cut between the bones, which meant I had to do it. Combined with leaving the silverskin on, this created a gigantic mess, which ruins this place for me for lunch, as it is just excessively messy. This also, incidentally, is another execution misfire. When I see rubs, I'm not anticipating being served wet ribs not should I really be trying to cut them myself with a dull plastic spreading knife. Taste was so-so, though infinitely better when combined with their stunning BBQ sauces, which is probably by design. I'm guessing they figured everyone is just going to slop sauce on everything anyway, so just focus on the sauces. Those sauces are either the best outright or right near the top of the sauces I've had in the state. Problem here is I don't go to a BBQ place because I really like the condiments. The brisket was also decent, though it looked more like pulled brisket rather than a slab. It was somewhat better than the ribs plain, but again, really started to shine when hit with the BBQ sauce. The hot link sausage, what I'm assuming was supposed to be Italian, was dreadful, possibly the worst I've had in the last decade, maybe longer. I got about one bite in on that one and even BBQ sauce is never going to save that. What struck me as odd is that for the smoker and the smell of smoke inside the restaurant, there was very little actual smoke flavor overall, possibly because of their insistence on serving trays and serving things wet, which the brisket also was. Price is probably at the higher end of BBQ places, which I don't really care about...until they don't deliver and they didn't here overall. Would I eat there again? Probably. I wouldn't mind trying out a pizza, as I'm guessing the BBQ sauce base will do very well there, but it won't be again this year as I don't have confidence in their ability to generate this quickly enough for a lunch. Business lunches are out entirely until they get their act together better, if it's my choice. The value to dollar ratio is just too far off for me to consider it currently. It's a shame, though, as this place really does have quite a lot of potential.

Of all the many BBQ restaurants that I have offered my patronage, none has been quite as superb as Smokin' Bones. This food is better than any BBQ place within 800 miles and as good as any BBQ that I have ever eaten anywhere. I have lived in the South and this stuff is just as good. Authentic is the best word I can use to describe it. There is also a personal touch to this place that you seldom see anywhere. Customer service is excellent. You feel like your at home with these folks. The owner came to our table to see how we were doing and thank is for our business. Thank You, Smokin' Bones!

3 1/2 stars, really. I love having good, cheap BBQ in B-town! They're small and the menu is REALLY small, but they've got good food. I am sad that I have never been able to taste their ribs. They're always sold out a few hours before closing (and closing time is 8:00, which seems kind of ridiculous on a weekend) and the staff doesn't seem to know what they're doing. But they're still new so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. They need to work on their efficiency in the line. Every time I've been in, they have been surprisingly slow as they help only one person at a time. But like I said, the food is good. I love their sides of baked beans and coleslaw. The cornbread is good with the honey butter. They don't have a potato option other than chips, which is a bummer. The steak burger topped with their pulled pork is the best thing I've tried. When you order just the pulled pork or brisket, they serve it with a bun so you can eat it as a sandwich. I just wish the bun was a little more exciting than a cheap-o bun very similar to what you get with a $1 McDonald's burger. I will continue to go and support them. Hopefully as they grow and gain experience, they'll improve. Their facebook page recently announced that they'll be getting another smoker, enabling them to cook more ribs and also add a chicken option. UPDATE: I was finally able to try the ribs. I don't know if I can ever eat anything else at Smokin' Bones. They were simply awesome! Also, I was impressed that the owner/chef took the time to come around to tables, ask how we liked the food, and to thank us for supporting him. He even went in back and brought out some cookies for our kids. I love supporting people who deserve it and who openly appreciate it.

Wow! After eating the food here I realize I haven't really ever eaten good barbecue. From the get go it was an amazing experience all together. You walk in and its authentic barbecue feel. My mouth was watering with the smell. In the corner is a Giant Bull Statue (which I found out is a pizza oven!) Everything sounded so good. So we got pretty much one of each. HAHAH I couldn't decide! The Ribs.. honestly the best ribs I have ever eaten! The cook came out and was talking to us explaining ribs and how they are cooked. I learned more about barbecue than I ever knew existed. Steak Burger... So Juicy! So Messy! SO AMAZING! Navajo Taco: Delicious. Such a good idea and twist with the brisket and the beans. I couldn't stop eating even tho I was stuffed. and just when I thought I couldn't eat anymore they brought out the pizza. And even full and ready to explode I still continued to eat the pizza. And for only 8.99??? That is the best pizza anywhere. Its definitely messy. Its so juicy. And real barbecue. You can't go wrong EVER. By choosing here. I will make that drive once a week to bountiful to have that food. Be prepared for a real experience. Its down to earth. The people are friendly. It is a real experience - and to top it off the food is unbeatable.

BBQ in Bountiful? And pretty dang good BBQ at that? We are really moving up in the world! My husband spent a couple years eating BBQ in Oklahoma, and he was satisfied, or even impressed, with Smokin Bones. Their sauce is great, ribs are tasty (of the moist, fall-off-the-bone variety), and their riff on a Navajo taco is worth a try if you can spare the calories. Not fancy, but very friendly. A host and an owner (I think) both came around to talk to patrons and get feedback. It's so nice to see someone care that much. We were their on a Friday night in the middle of the dinner rush and I thought the wait in line was reasonable, though I could agree the process at the counter was a bit slow and disorganized. Plates with two sides are in the $8.99 to $12.99 range. Portions are fair for that price and food quality is high. I would call it a good value. The side otems are generously sized, though the pulled pork portion on the bun was a little skimpy. I don't mind styrofoam cups and takeaway containers at all. The best BBQ I've ever had was served the same way. When I ordered I was a bit disappointed they only had one sauce. (I like a vinegar sauce on my pork.) But their sauce recipe made me forget about that. I don't prefer their style of brisket, and would prefer it sturdy and sliced, but it had great flavor and serving it on fry bread is an awesome idea. I hope Smokin Bones sticks around! Go try it!

Our first experience was good, and here's why... The staff was friendly and the ordering process painless. The food, while not giant portions, was tasteful and good for the money. We felt it was BETTER than Dickey's, despite what previous reviewers felt, and we can be a bit picky :) The place is pretty clean, cleaner than most, but the one downside is the wasteful styrofoam plates used that are just tossed out.

My wife and I went in to give it a try one day. Overall? I think I'd give this one here a C. I had the two meat plate with beans and cornbread, my wife had the brisket sandwich. The big plus to us? The Pepsi selection! My wife and I are Pepsi folks and they had Diet Dr Pepper, which for my wife is wonderful. Starting with the brisket sandwich. The food comes out in a styrofoam container, which is perfect, you don't have to ask for a to go box should you need one. Back to food, the sandwich was piled high with the "brisket". One issue, brisket is traditionally served slab style, this was more like pulled beef. And honestly tastes similar to pulled beef. The meat was awfully wet, which I'm sure was due to sitting in the metal tins waiting for serving. I understand the need to store it, but I was sad the meat lacked the smokey flavor I was smelling inside and out of the restaurant. Unfortunately, wet meat equals soggy bun. The sad part is the sandwich is all you get, no sides. Just buns and meat. Somewhat stingy I feel considering the price. The two meat platter. I always try a barbeque joint's pulled pork, brisket, beans, and corn bread. I am a firm believer that these are staples that all joints should get right. The brisket was the same as the sandwich brisket. A pile of wet pulled beef. The pork while also wet was pulled in large strands. It had good flavor, but again was very wet. They offer sauce, which I got on the side as I like to try the meat without first and go from there. The sauce had good flavor, and I would've like to be able to have more than my small side worth. I like the notion of sauce on the table and being able to control my own sauce to meat ratio. The beans left something to be desired of. I hold beans in high regard and they can truly make or break a barbeque joint for me, these were very so so. Honestly, the shining star here was the cornbread. While it was cool, and I love good hot bread, the bread was very moist and had great flavor. It paired well with the butter pat they give you, but was also a great addition to the meat. All in all I wasn't too disappointed. I felt the prices were a little steep for what you got. I intend to go back and try a few more items.

This is hands down the BEST BBQ in Utah. My husband and I came here for lunch a few weeks back and haven't been able to stop talking about it since. I ordered the ribs, and they were literally falling off the bones. The sauce is sweet and savory and I was licking my fingers after every bite! My husband ordered the brisket and a steak burger and oh my... I tried a bite of the steak and I almost (almost) regretted not ordering it!! My mouth is watering just thinking about it all... The coleslaw and baked beans were also well above average. Sides are kind of "filler" (as my dad would call them) but I can honestly say that I wanted to finish off those along with the meat! My family was sorely disappointed when we came home without a doggie bag. I can't recommend Smokin Bones enough! We will be first in line every time we visit Utah!

There are two kinds of BBQ. The best BBQ involves rubs and smoke to add flavor to the meat during cooking and garnishing with sauce. The second and inferior method involves baking the meat in an oven and adding sauce after the cooking is done as the only source of flavor. Unfortunately, this place follows the second method. Very disappointing, given the use of the word "smokin" in the name. I am also shocked by the four and five star reviews. Hasn't anyone in Bountiful ever eaten smoked pork??? You can find it in SLC. You don't even have to travel out of state! Other negatives: expensive prices and plastic forks. I'm only giving two stars instead of one, because for oven-baked meat it was reasonably good.

Went there today for the first time with my family and I was not disappointed. Husband got the Navajo taco, I got the pork sandwich plate, and my son got the pig in a blanket. Everything was delicious. The place was very clean. You can definitely tell that the food there is a labor of love.

The best BBQ in the valley!! Hands down! Everything is made fresh. Don't let the location fool you - this restaurant is a gem in Bountiful. If you want ribs or prime rib, get there early - they go fast. Great people who run the place.

Really good BBQ. They have the smoker right up front too, was fun seeing them put huge slabs of meat into it. The pork was amazing, sausage was good too.

I'm just a simple kid who's never been out of Utah. So can I really judge what 'good barbecue' is? Maybe not. But here's my best shot. The quality of the food is very consistent. I've enjoyed everything I've ever had here. Meats are moist and flavorful, never overcooked, and the sauce is great. The steak burger is always a favorite. My sister says it's the best burger she's ever had and talks about it all the time. I think a lot of the quality of this place comes from the owner. I definitely get the impression that he cares not only about the food he makes, but the people he serves as well. I've introduced this place to family, friends, and coworkers. All are satisfied. Be sure to arrive early enough in the day; supplies are limited and meats are often sold out by the evening. Business is obviously booming, as it should be. This is just a nice place to be at. Barbecue isn't just about food. It's also about tradition, sharing, and comfort. By my humble estimation, this is true barbecue.

Nice place with super nice people! Was able to taste the Ribs (Good), Brisket (Good) and the Sausage (Ok). For Sides I got a giant square of Cornbread (Good) and beans (Ok). It was good BBQ with good sides. I wish they had more sauce selections (I tend to like the a Carolina vinegar spice or Texas hot instead of a traditional KC sweet) also I would like it better if they had sides other that the basic fair. (better Slaw and Greek potatoes or spruced up beans) those simple changes would take this place from a good BBQ Joint to a Great one!

4 and a half stars, really. 5 stars easily if they can improve on a few minor things. I have eaten here well over a dozen times since I found out about them. I would be happy to eat here at least weekly, but my dining budget does not allow for that right now. As others have said, for Bountiful, the food is excellent. I am always happy to see places that are not huge, national chains start up and give us a unique, personal dining experience. The staff is always very, very friendly, and I always feel as if they want to make sure that my dining experience is good. My only complaint is that on a couple of different occasions I have had to remind them about a side that they forgot to bring out. This is usually when I order something unusual like an order of wings or a pizza with a piece of cornbread. I guess not many people do that. If they had a better way to manage their orders, that would go a long ways in my book. Their menu is small, but that is what I would expect from a place of this size. People need to remember that a bigger menu causes bigger overhead and that either raises prices or puts places out of business. I have noticed that they are adding and trying out more menu items as they go along. This includes wings, prime rib on Sat. nights, a couple different sausage options, and the Navaho Tacos/ dessert fry bread with honey butter that others have mentioned. I have tried almost everything on the menu and while I stick with the wings or pizza usually (beef and pork are really hard on my gut because I cannot digest them well) I have enjoyed the flavor of everything I try. If I could add one item to the menu, it would be French Fries. In summary of a post that rambles at times: friendly staff, amazing flavor, good variety, fair prices. Please support this great local business.

I have been here a couple of times. The second time was to give it another try because the first time was so-so. First the prices are high for the quality and portions. the BBQ itself is average. the service was brutally slow. There were 6 of us and nobody received their food at the same time. We had to keep asking for items that were missed. Staff didn't seem interested in the customers. I don't think I will give it a third try.

My experience wasn't great, it wasn't terrible, but it did leave a whole lot to be desired. Décor: nice tables in the seating area. The longhorn wood burning oven looked fun everything else is clearly early Costco. Food: the wood around the place was cherry, so my assumption is the meats are cherry smoked . My wife had the pulled pork. It was served in what looked like a paper nacho tray. She had beans and slaw as sides. I had the steak burger and the same sides. The burger was a ground beef patty topped with cheese and pulled pork on a lightly toasted bun. I enjoyed the combination but the burger taste was lost in the pork and BBQ sauce. Also there wasn't any way to put the burger down, the bun got soggy quick. Dressing on the slaw was tasty. Beans had a sweet and black peppery taste, not a lot of spice heat. Don't expect plates, everything is served in either styrofoam or plastic cups. I was also disappointed in how stingie they seemed with the BBQ sauce. Would have enjoyed to have had some at the table Service was friendly however a whole lot of food prep happened in the seating area. A bit unprofessional for my taste. it seems the company is quite young as are the staff, I would expect in time they can bring their restaurant skills up to the quality of their meats. I will try them again in a few months

Very disappointed. Was really hoping for real barbecue. Beef brisket was shredded and soggy. Ribs were mediocre, no smoke ring or bark and over cooked. Corn bread was cold. Salad was nothing but lettuce. Wings were nothing special.

This place is awesome, it's got a very home-y feel to it, they are very warm and welcoming! I think some of these people who review restaurants in yelp have never worked in a restaurant or started their own business, so they don't know how much regular dishes cost or fancier looking buns when the taste is just the same. Everything is melt in your mouth delicious and they deserve to be on diners, drive in and dives. This place is going to succeed if snooty people stop making silly comments about Styrofoam cups and if they just enjoy the food and people for what they are, friendly, warm, welcoming, delicious and unique experience for the Wasatch front! Best wishes for these guys! Go try them!
