I've been here twice. The first time the food was amazing, especially the fried alligator. The second time, however, the crawfish in both mine and my girlfriend's dish were bad. It smelled off and it tasted worse. We quietly let the manager know figuring that it was just an accident because the rest of our food was still really good, but he was such a jerk about the whole thing. He kept rudely suggesting that we just "weren't happy with our selection" instead of acknowledging that the crawfish were actually bad. We really tried being quiet about the whole thing, and I honestly would have gone back because I know the food here is typically great, but his attitude and response to us was enough to make me not want to go back. We definitely won't be returning, and it has nothing to do with spoiled seafood.

Our orders: - Fried gator and fries - Fried shrimp and fries - An order or boudin balls - One hurricane - One margarita $45 total, no tip necessary (no waiter service here) I love Zachary's! The food was great, the restaurant was clean and uncrowded, and did I mention that the food was soooo good?? I love the ambiance of the restaurant. Its so "Bourbon St" LOL. My fiance loved it too, maybe because he had 2 flat screens facing him viewing college football? I can't mention enough how clean it was here, I appreciate the up-keep. Zach's mom works here. She's very friendly and makes sure you're taken care of. The other employees were nice, too. Though, one chubby girl/cashier was SO RUDE. I was trying to enjoy my Saturday night, I just ignored her. She even kept passing by our table giving us dirty looks! I would have reported her, but my Hurricanes kicked in. Get the fried shrimp, they're HUGE and very fresh. So were the boudain balls. I can't wait to go back here! This is the best restaurant in Kingwood. But, I'm sure some would like to argue that Chachi's is, even though they had "Slime in the ice machine"!

My wife and I are avid restaurant vistors and enjoy rating new places. Raised in Houston now retired seniors it is or hobby - we love good food and have dined out at fine restaurants all over the country for decades. Spent $47 for dinner. The food is very average and nothing remarkable. This is no cajun cusine and if you are just hungry looking for lunch or dinner then your money is better spent at Cracker Barrel or equivelent. Self service counter food very bland and nothing to make a fuss over. We would be surprised ifr this spot is still in business in 2013. This location used to be a Berry Hll Tamales but closed. We did buy a Monday special hamburger here for $5 and it was really good - perhaps it should re-name itself Zachery's Burger's and it might stay afloat.

This place is not bad, pretty okay for cajun food. They have a nicely sized menu with platters to po boys to boudin balls along with a wide selection of side dishes. First time here, I was super excited to see boudin on the menu and quickly ordered that along with a bowl of gumbo. Food came out not too long after and there were about 6 boudin balls to an order. Crispy on the outside and the right amount of mushy rice on the inside. Really good, though after two pieces, I didn't want another. It's a good dish to split with other people. My gumbo was average, not the best but definitely not the worst. It had a good taste to it, though I can imagine some people having a problem with it not being sufficiently spiced. The bowl came with a good amount and I even got to take some home. Next time I came, I ordered a shrimp po boy and substituted the fries for their seasoned green beans. Those green beans are AMAZING. They're cooked in bacon and are well seasoned and are one of the green beans I have ever eaten. The po boy was well dressed and had a decent amount of big breaded shrimps. The bread was too thick for my liking and brought down the sandwich a bit in my opinion. I ended up just picking out the shrimps and eating them. Decently priced, around 9 dollars for a po boy. They serve a BIG selection of Abita beer so if you dig Abita, then this is your place. They also have a cool Pac Man machine there too.

As far as cajun food goes in the Houston area, this place is upper tier. I loved that they aren't afraid to make the étouffée spicy. If you know of a better version in the Houston area, let me know. Oyster poboy is solid. A bounty of oysters overflowed the bread. Made me feel like I was getting a great deal. They were also perfectly cooked which is not as common as you'd think for something delicate like fried oysters. Loved the Abita Turbodog on tap and kids loved the Abita Root Beer. Unlike other reviewers, I thought the boudin balls were subpar. Was mostly rice with less meat than usual for a boudin ball, and the seasoning was fairly basic. Reminded me of Zummos boudin you can get at most area groceries.

Love love love this place. Their gumbo is awesome and their Pasta Jambalaya is to die for. I just wish they had more options for kids plates. My kids hate eating here because they are so limited but other than that I love them.

I was really ripped off and will not be going back. So they had a pitcher special on certain Abita beers - $6 per pitcher, but the bartender didn't bother telling me. I order 3 beers of the Abita beer that was not on special and paid $7.50 per beer! yes, $22.50! I thought it was greedy and bad business and will tell others to beware! And I ordered a slice of king cake and they served it to me right out of the freezer - who knows how long it had been there- it was like a piece of stone! so they microwaved it (too long) and served it with the frosting all melted and stuck to the plate and the cake gooey. I normally don't bother with reviews but this was bad all the way around.

Great food that has all the fun and flavor of New Orleans. The Burger is among the best in Kingwood when you order it "Cajun Style". If you live in Kingwood you know there is some tough competition. My backup is the muffaletta, At lunch get the lunch size or be ready to split, toss some sweet potato fries on the side and you have one good southern lunch. The best part is dessert, if you go, save room. The King cakes are FedExed in Daily during Mardi Gras Season, and the bread pudding is the best I have had period. Real Cajun Food, real Cajun Beer, and right on Kingwood Drive. Be ready for the LSU invasion of your visual senses. You can find me there most Mondays at Lunch eating the $5.00 burger special There is a to Geaux door if you don't want to hang out, just call ahead and roll.

They serve Abita's Turbo dog on tap. That has been a calling me in about every month or so ever since they have opened. That and the family friendly side with the table style pac man and centipede games for the little one's. I have to eat their cajun fare if I see hand painted pictures of cypress trees and autographed pics of the swamp people's Troy Landry. The seafood alfredo is very tasty and so are the grilled Cheese sandwiches. Prefer the fried shrimp over the catfish. Thursday's you can catch some local talent picking their debut or farewell. Did I mentioned they sale abita's?

I was a big fan of the social atmosphere at Barry Hill and was excited to see a new restaurant go in to take it's place. Not a lot has changed on the inside since it was Barry Hill and the order at the counter format is the same...just different name and menu. Having spent a year working in New Orleans I was excited to get a little Cajun in me. I ordered the seafood gumbo and the grilled shrimp plate as the entree. When the food came (about 10 minutes, but the gumbo came at the same time as the entree, not before) my first thought was how tiny the portions were. The $3.99 cup of gumbo came in a cup smaller than a coffee mug (in otherwords, overpriced for the portion size). The gumbo itself was average and watered down with just a hint of flavor. The shrimp entree ($14) came with 8 normal size shrimp that were served alone on the plate with 2 small hush puppy's. They were grilled nice and had nice seasoning, but the dinner was the size of the shrimp on the barbie appetizer at Outback. My wife had the chicken sandwich and reports that it was good and that the chicken was not dry...her sandwich came with a choice of side. All is not lost, the service was very friendly and the po-boy menu makes me want to give this place another chance (for lunch, not dinner)

Great Cajun food, lots of choices, friendly staff. Owners usually there and will strike up a conversation if they're not waiting on customers. Love their Muffuletta, good Red Beans & Rice, great Boudin Balls. Can great crowded but other than that we've never had one bad experience here. We will continue to frequent this restaraunt!

Had a great burger here back in January, which I have craved ever since. It was called the Inside-Out Burger, and was actually filled with jalapeno cheese, and had just enough spice to clear my head nicely! The fries were also good. Wish I knew where I could find one of these burgers in Jersey or Philly! A nice little restaurant for a bite for lunch.

Everything I tried here at Zachary's was just mouth watering delicious!!! I had the Inside Out Jalapeno burger and have been craving it ever since I had it omg this burger is amazing!!! If you love Mufalattas this place has the best one around at least the best one I have ever tasted it is the managers creation you must try it if you haven't already. Friendly manager and staff all around, delicious food, and a great atmosphere. I cannot wait to go back the next time I am in Kingwood!!! Chris Rogers, Resident of Beaumont, TX

OMG, this place. I'm a sucker for Cajun goodness, especially mom & pop joints. And although I live in the Galleria area, the drive to Kingwood is more than worth it when I get a plate of the Zachary's Jambalaya Pasta in front of me. An "explosion of Cajun flavor," boasts the menu--and it doesn't get much more accurate than that. Rotini-style pasta with jumbo shrimp, crawfish, andouille sausage, and Cajun-seasoned chicken breast over what likely is a parmesan cream sauce, with just a hint of heat. Delicious. 4 stars for this dish. The seafood gumbo is also pretty great. In my experience, it's difficult to find gumbo around these parts, and although it's not the best I've ever had, it's pretty darn good. The rich foundation of the roux combined with plenty of shrimp, crab, and okra makes this a satisfying, warm-you-to-your-insides experience. And the fried shrimp po-boy is good, as well, and overflowing with finely breaded, flavorful shrimp. The atmosphere is laid-back and welcoming, and it's counter service at its best. The owners and staff are a genuinely friendly bunch, and after placing your order, they not only bring your food to you but unobtrusively check on you during the course of your meal. This is most unusual for counter service, and I like it. The choice of draft beer is great, too. Representing Louisiana, they have a range of Abita choices, including Purple Haze. I don't think I've seen this outside of Spec's and The Flying Saucer, so many, many points for you, Zachary's.

Zachary's is exactly what Kingwood needs! I'm always skeptical to try a cajun place, but this one is really good. I think they're po-boys come close to rivaling Rajun Cajun downtown. (But not the ABSOLUTE BEST I've EVER HAD) I like the atmosphere, though I could do with a little less LSU stuff on the wall. They stay true to the cajun flare and serve good food, beer, and dessert. They are worth a try and well priced. They are community oriented and family owned, which are always pluses for me.

I ate here when it opened and it was sad. Overpriced food, small portions with no flavor and no plate presentation to speak of. But I like to give places a second chance. The owner is very nice. Got the catfish poorboy to-go. Wow. Once I made it through the mountain of tasteless bread, which was hiding my catfish like a well guarded prisoner, the fish had a strange taste. Each piece tasted different, and one piece i actually had to spit out. Small pieces, big price tag. This sandwich correctly describes it's name, "poor boy". I ended up throwing the thing away and going to another place to eat. Sad but Kingwood needs some more great places to eat with outdoor seating. Now I did eat some of the best Gumbo ever, and I mean so fresh they cook it right at the bar while you wait, at The Gumbo Bar in Galveston. I'm still thinking of those BBQ Oysters, make you hurt yourself their so good. And their poorboy was awesome. Bread was lightly buttered and a bit toasted with big pieces of catfish that tasted fresh. I don't know or work for anyone at the Gumbo bar, but love telling everyone about the place after my experience. I hope Zachary's makes the necessary changes to their high prices and Ok food. It does have good atmosphere and a great bar area. It would be fun to watch football up there and drink beer, oh and get some fries, they had more taste than any of their food.

  • Brian E.

If this is Cajun food then have no reason to come back!!! Gumbo seafood had no spices in it ,I had to add hot sauce and I hate spicy so that says it was very plain. Alligator Poboy bread hard felt stale. Called "Dressed" with Lettuce and Tomato and Pickles was slices so thin might of just not been on there.. I ended up just eating the Alligator Poppers out of the bread and found that the Seasoned Fries had the most taste out of everything. Ohh and if you want to go to a place where you have to "shout and wave" to a person bringing your food then your Home. Felt more like a bar and bar food then a Cajun Food place

While I can't personally attest to the authenticity of the Cajun cuisine, I have eaten here with several Louisianans who proclaim this to be their favorite Cajun place around. What I can attest to is the lunch specials. This place was super tasty and reasonably priced. For lunch I enjoyed 1/2 of a shrimp po-boy and a cup of seafood gumbo. Both were served hot, fresh, and delicious. A great place for a quick, casual lunch. I haven't been at dinner, but I hear it's a fun atmosphere with live music. Something to look into if you're so inclined.

Had dinner there for the first time yesterday. Pros: The atmosphere was wonderful! They had the Saints and Texans games on TVs close enough we could watch both. It wasn't crowded but the few people there were very "into" the game which made it fun. Boudin balls were 1/2 price. Oyster dinner had about 28 oysters and were well seasoned. Red beans and rice was good, not great but better than most I've tried. My husband thought the shrimps were good. They have good tartar sauce. Cons: I've been to New Orleans and had Cajun food, this was NOT Cajun food. This was more like plain fried seafood, pub food. The boudin balls weren't very good. Mushy, very little flavor, and the coating was so tough you almost couldn't cut through them. I think they may have been previously frozen. Although they gave you plenty of oysters, they were small and over cooked which made them tough. They were also not cleaned very well. Several had the tough abductor muscle and others had grit in them. For the price (almost $15) I would rather have had 15 large, well cleaned, well cooked oysters. NOT A GOOD VALUE (QUALITY) FOR THE PRICE! I'll take quality over quantity everytime. On the flip size, the shrimp platter which was about $14 came with only 8 shrimps. That's almost $1.75 for EACH SHRIMP! they were a nice sized shrimp, but still, they we'ren't that nice. I wish they would fire "the whistler"! I'm sitting there trying to enjoy my mushy boudin balls and over cooked, tough oysters, while watching the football games and visit with my husband while having to listen to the shrill coming from the kitchen area. I didn't come there to listen to them whistle, I came to eat and watch the game. I won't be back, which is a shame because the Texans and Saints are my favorite teams and that was really nice to watch them both. That's the only reason I would be willing to go back, except for the shrilling whistler which will keep me away.

This is my go-to spot for Saints games. Or any Louisiana sports broadcast. The owner is always walking around being friendly and talking to patrons. There's a gaming table for kids and TONS of tv's for sports. The bar is smallish but for Kingwood it's perfect. The food is pretty good, also. I love that boudain balls and Abita it 1/2 off during Saints games. I get them every time. The poboys are on great French Bread and their batter is good, not over done and thick. But that brownie sundae, tho... It's huge and my absolute favorite dessert splurge. I usually order a platter or the gumbo and have never been disappointed. The alligator is a nice taste of home for me too. From a Cajun, this place will always get my vote.

Was in the burbs and couldn't wait until arriving back into town to eat. Stopped at the first non-chain place I could find, which was Zachary's. Glad I did. It's a casual counter service restaurant cookin' up some good cajun food. Got the wings and grilled catfish poboy. Catfish was delicious and tasted fresh. The bread was huge. Couldn't get my jaw around it. Had to leave some of the bread uneaten it was just too much. If you want a local place in the burbs check out this place. Good food and prices.

Quite a pleasant surprise as we stopped for lunch in Kingwood. Best Gumbo to be had west of Beaumont, and the shrimp po-boy was MASSIVE. Bonus: several Abita brews are available on tap. Definitely worthy of a return visit.

Zachary's has become one of my favorite places in Kingwood since my move! Not only do they offer some solid cajun food, they also have Abita beers on tap all the time! Thursday's are typically the night we go, as they have $8 Abita pitchers and open mic night. Kingwood has some great musical talent, so it makes for a fun night out before the weekend! The food is always dependable and very large portions, so we often split something. They have other food specials on different nights of the week and also offer options for the kiddos. This is a great local owned establishment and they give back to the community often by supporting local youth sports!

Certainly at the top of the list for food in the kingwood area. I always come here at least once during each visit. When you walk in you are immediately greeted by employees at the counter ready to take your order or answer any question. After you order you get your drink and then seat yourself. I highly recommend trying the gumbo during one of your visits here. Having tried many different gumbos I can say there seafood gumbo is nothing short of incredible! Another favorite item of mine to get a Po Boy. It comes on a large bun over flowing with your choice of oysters, crawfish, shrimp, or catfish. I have yet to try but I have also only heard great things about there burgers. The great food mixed with an awesome Cajun decor is welcoming and unbeatable in the area. The ownership does a great job overseeing everything and making sure everything is just right. Highly recommend!

I'm not a Cajun expert but Zachary's has pretty good food overall. I love the popular crawfish etouffee and my boyfriend enjoys the pastas since it has a kick to it. Looking for a quick fix, this café is comfortable and laid back while eating good food. I always finish off with the beignets. The staff are very friendly, and the place is well kept up!

Great Kingwood hangout! Thursday's you can get a pitcher of different Abita beers for $8! I mean seriously! And it's also open mic night there, which is a lot fun to check out the local talent! Can't wait to go again, and eat something this time. Might hit the NOLA cravings just right!

We LoVE this place! They have delicious food. We love the gumbo and Zachary's jambalaya pasta. There is so much meat in the pasta that you will run out of pasta before you run out of meat! The owners are from Louisiana. The decor is all about LSU and the Saints. Being a Gator fan make is hard to stomach (just kidding!!). But truly we LoVE eating here!

Fresh food in a clean atmosphere. Zachary's offers a range of cajun influenced options. I usually have the grilled shrimp po'boy. While basic it always served on fresh bread. A nice place to relax watch a ball game, have good bar food. Convienently located near the Homewood Suite Hotel in Kingwood, TX.

It was a Friday night and there was live music, so sis felt like she was back in Austin. The band was pretty good, although loud, so definitely don't come here to discuss business. The prices seemed very reasonable to us. Huge salads and sandwiches. We tried the shrimp creole and the crawfish etoufee. Compared to New Orleans prices, $12.99 seemed reasonable for a large plate that stuffed us. No room for beignets unfortunately. They have a large selection of Abita's on draft and I thought $3.75 seemed cheap. Happy hour they are $2.50. If I lived in Kingwood, this would be a regular spot. Lost a star because it was packed when we got there and you order at the counter. We asked the girl what to do if the food came out but there still wasn't a table.....She shrugged her shoulders and said, "make a friend?" It was funny, but not really! We did get a table though and a young couple with a baby was standing around sharing our concerns about a table when I saw the manager find them a hidden table somewhere.

I was really excited to try this place as I loved seafood (especially Cajun). I was really disappointed... I ordered the fried catfish platter with green beans. I was not a fan on the batter in the catfish, in fact I couldn't taste the fish, only batter. The green beans were extremely salty and that's after draining them out of the juice. I don't see myself going back to this restaurant.

Stopped in on one of my traveling adventures and was pleasantly surprised. The gumbo was fresh and chock full of shrimp and sausage. I had the special of Black end Red Fish over rice. I catch red fish often and rarely get to bring it home so it was a nice treat. Prepared with just the right amount of spice with an excellent crayfish etouffee poured over the top. Be sure to get the green beans as your side. They were fresh and tasty. Highly recommend that you sit at the bar and get the best service from Shannon the bartender. Great work Zachary. I will be back again!

I was born and raise on the Texas/Louisiana border.. my grandma was as cajun as old lady's come. Suffice to say I know my way around Cajun food and cook and eat it more than anyone can probably imagine. I wasn't at all excited to eat at another Cajun restaurant as this type of food is generally my staple and at this point in my life can be a bit boring if not done very well. We had to wait on some folks to arrive so we sat at the bar. I ordered some beer they do have a nice local selection of beers here and I was very happy to see Karbach brewing company on tap. I kicked back a few pints and got very happy. I ordered the fried Boudain balls for an appetizer and they where tasty.. I did find the Boudain a bit lacking as it tasted like it needed a bit more liver and a bit more Cajun seasoning. I ordered the seafood platter for my meal and honestly felt the batter was a bit bland also. I'm used to Cajun food having a bit of a spicy kick and that wasn't present here. The presentation of my seafood platter was also very suspect. A piece of my fish seemed to have been broken in half .. at first I thought it could have been eaten off of but I was able to find the piece that broke off and verify it fit back together. My girlfriend ordered an Etoufee that had a very weak roux and tasted nothing like the Etoufee I am accustomed to eating. I probably wouldn't go back here if given the choice.. its really just not that great which is a shame because even bad Cajun food is generally very good. I give them props for the beer selection but everything else was very lacking. This one is for sure a skip.

Great food and great environment! We had boudain balls for appetizer just as good as in Louisiana. I had the seafood fettuccine that had crab and shrimp in it, so good! There were several tvs wroth sports channels on and a guy singing great old music! Great night out with the hubby!

Okay so, last night in Texas and I told my husband, since were only in the south once and we can't go to New Orleans, i want to go to Zacharys and get beignets. i went , got them and came back. Everyone i was with said how good they looked and we should go back for dinner. So we did and i got the full southern food experience i was looking for. we had crawdads and friend seafood platter and so much good stuff. I had the best peach bellini! I highly suggest this place if your in kingwood!

This is a great place in Kingwood when you miss a good ole New Orleans poboy. The zydeco shrimp poboy is the best for me, their bread is very fresh and exactly how poyboy bread should be. I like the place because it can be a nice little place to watch at game and have a beer. I wish they had some better beer specials at times. Happy hour is nice. Definitely go for the Monday boiled shrimp and an icy cold Abita beer!

I ate at Zachary's this past month with my wife. I enjoyed what I ordered, Shrimp Po-Boy. We split the Po-Boy and we were full. The order came with hush-puppies that was aah.. "Ok". The shrimp was very flavorful and was a perfect match for the bread it was nestled on. I don't have much experience with Cajun food but I indeed liked the food and especially liked the Abita Beer "Amber" on draft. It was a great find. Its a light version of Shiner Bock. I have no pics to go along with this review but I plan on going back soon and will return with pics and an update on the food. Oh I forgot, they have a happy hour during the week and it ends at 7:00p. ($2.00 Pints so drink it up)...

Three-and-a-half stars is probably most accurate, but I don't want to drag it down with a three. Tasty food with generous portions. Not gourmet quality, but quite good. The red beans and rice are terrific, either as a side dish or a meal. I've enjoyed the catfish and the oysters, and their po-boys are huge. Iced tea is kind of blah, and it could use nice silverware and restrooms. If they spruced it up a bit, I think it would help the feel of it. Friendly service.

A new little gem in Kingwood. Located where Barry Hill Tamale used to be, this new Cajun restaurant is almost like being in New Orleans. To start the owner proudly tells everyone who asks that he gets his bread from New Orleans (the name of the exact place he gets the bread escapes me right now but I would remember it if someone said it and if you are from NoLa so would you). So have no fear Po-Boy lovers they have the bread covered and no they don't toast it. It's soft and delicious. They have several Po-boys to choose from and even have a roast beef with debris and when you order, they actually know and prefer you say "dressed" if you want the lettuce and tomato. For some this might be new terminology but it is common in LA. When you order a roast beef Po-boy if you want gravy you order it with debris (and you want debris!!). If you want lettuce and tomato you ask for it dressed. They have Muffalatus, boudan balls, gumbo, seafood platters and many other items to make you feel like your back in NoLa. The staff is friendly and the place is clean and they even have take out.

Very good food , but the restaurant could use a good scrubbing. The entire place has a less than appetizing odor

I had a business lunch there today and ordered the crawfish étouffée. It was a large serving and very good. It had a nice peppery flavor with generous amounts of crawfish over a bed of rice. It came with two pieces of French bread. We also ordered their boudin balls and I must say they were very good too. I really enjoyed my meal today and would recommend this place. Counter service was friendly and helpful. On a second visit 6 months later I tried the seafood fettuccine and thought it was a 2. I just didn't like it. I had the boudin balls again and they were again very good. I am going to leave my overall 4 rating because I think my pasta dish wasn't typical of their other dishes...

I just left this restaurant I do not recommend this restaurant at all let's see where to begin first of all the customer service was horrible the man at the register seemed like he hated his job he had a bad attitude towards me he rolled his eyes at me while I was thinking of what to order the sea food gumbo I ordered was disgusting it was watered down there was barely any sea food in it and the sea food in it tasted old It had two pieces of sausage in it I couldn't even eat it with out having a gag reflect the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted I didn't feel like dealing with the man at the front I left the plate there I will never eat there again

Great food and service! Looks great inside, cozy looking bar as well. Kids eat FREE on Saturday's!!! Had to get your own drinks, ranch ect... No waitress/waiter for lunch service. But did not mind. Big portions on the platters so it's a plus if you like to share meals. Will return again to explore the menu further! Also great beer selection if you are a beer aficionado.

This is the third time I've been here. The first time I had the oyster poor boy. It was OK....a lot of bread. The second time I had the boudin balls. They were pretty good, maybe worth three stars. Tonight I had the roast beef poor boy which was shredded beef with what tasted like canned gravy. It was pretty disgusting. The fries were lukewarm. Another person I was with ordered the Jambalaya and she said it was dry and had no taste. She didn't eat it. The female bartender was rude when I asked about a particular wine. Come on people....it's Mardi Gras! No Cajun music, no party spirit except some one was passing out a strand of beads to each diner. Won't be returning to Zachery's.

I've eaten here multiple times and tried multiple items on the menu. The Cajun seasoned hamburger, the muffalata and the gumbo are some of my favorites. The place always looks clean and the decor is inviting. The employees are always knowledgable about the menu and are always friendly. They occasionally have live entertainment. Ownership is involved in the community and are very supportive of law enforcement. That alone ensures my continued patronage. TIP: Try the bread pudding! It's absolutely delicious!!!

One of the rare times that I've been to a restaurant rated well by my fellow Yelpers but was very disappointed. I was in the area for work and based on Yelp reviews I went here on a Wednesday night for dinner. I was traveling alone so I sat at the bar. The restaurant was maybe 1/2 full at the most. It took at least 5 minutes of me sitting at the bar before I was recognized by the bartender. I ordered the special which was blackened redfish. My food came out in a reasonable amount of time. The blackened redfish didn't have much flavor which is unusual for pretty much any protein that is blackened. I also got the rice and beans which were also nothing special. Overall very lackluster food that was accompanied by lackluster service.

Great food with a family friendly atmosphere. Absolutely love the red beans and rice and the fried alligator. The owners make great desserts as well during the holiday make sure to stop by and get some.

Love the jambalya pasta. Good atmosphere. Boudin balls are good also, Finn Thursday nights great prices on Abita and half priced appitizers.

I can't believe I've lived in the area for so long and had not stopped by till today! This place has a great menu selection for lunch or dinner. You must try the boudin balls and the crawfish étouffée... Soo yumm!! Don't forget dessert, they've got beignets and bread pudding. I can't wait to come back.

Zachary's has great food at a great price. The poboys are delicious and you get huge portions. I had the half fried crawfish poboy and cup of jambalaya the last time and it didn't disappoint. The burgers are also very good if cooked right. A couple of times it has been overcooked even though I ordered it medium rare, but I can look past that. The atmosphere is cool with a warm feel and the service is top notch.

Had boudin balls for the appetizer and the blackened redfish topped with crawfish étouffée over a bed of rice and a side of broccoli. Boudin balls were really good. Fish was excellent. The étouffée was good, but there was a little too much and overpowered the fish. Had a bombshell blonde ale. It was excellent. The bartender, Aaron was really nice and friendly and conversational. Being close to Mardi Gras, they had king cake, so yes I will take a to go. Overall a nice place to eat. Lots of LSU decorations. GEAUX Tigers!

Good atmosphere. Food is okay. In line with other cajun restaurant's around houston. Just cant compare to the real thing down in the bayou.

This review is based solely on the pasta jambalaya.. It was really flavorful and delicious. The meat & seafood ratio outweighed that of the pasta.. I had so much meat left over, I was able to put it over that dry ass Jambalaya(rice) my Husband ordered. The end

pros: very good food, nice atmosphere, and friendly staff cons: pricey and a thin craft beer selection. suggest the fried boudin balls will visit again.

This place is NOT big enough for the crowd, it way only by chance that we scored a table outside to sit...after we had already ordered. I would like to see a better seating arrangement so that people don't order and then have to stand. I saw one women eating while standing up next to the door, and she was a customer. The food was pretty good. I like that their batter is seasoned well, not too strong but with a nice spice on your tongue. The fried alligator was very tasty. I had the grilled shrimp and chicken salad, it was good, standard salad fixin but the grilled meats were pretty tasty. Boyfriend had seafood platter with fried catfish, shrimp, crawfish, oysters. They were all tasty, again the breading is well seasoned.

We had lunch here for the first time and it was great. Gumbo didn't have okra YEA. The seafood platter was very tasty..too much for one person. We have found our new favorite Cajun cafe!!!

Not bad for an attempt at Cajun cuisine in Texas. I had the Catfish Platter, with corn on the cob as my side, as well as a cup of Chicken and Andouille gumbo. The catfish was cooked to perfection and seasoned perfectly, although I would have preferred whole filets....rather than the attempt at "fish fingers". The corn was cooked perfectly, and delectably sweet. I would have really liked it if I were offered some butter. The gumbo....wow! It was like a taste of home. The only gumbo I've e had that even comes close to mine. The perfect blend of a dark roux and the "cajun trinity", along with tender, juicy chunks of chicken and andoille that melt in your mouth. The smokiness of the sausage is a nice touch. Service from the to go hostess was top notch, all though it would have been nice to be offered a soft drink while waiting. All in all, I recommend Zacharys to anyone looking for good cajun cooking in the Kingwood area. C'est Si Bon

We made a stop by here based on other recommendations and we were not disappointed. I chose the jambalaya which was good, but I recommend the crawfish étouffée which my wife ordered. It was delicious! Nice atmosphere with live music on Saturday evening and very casual. We also ordered the bread pudding which was massive and plenty to split with the whole table. It is great when served hot. We plan to visit here again when in the area.

Great place, quick service and awesome food. The gator bites were cooked perfectly, the muffelata was awesome and The crawfish poboy was pretty good. I will definitely recommend this place if you want a quick Cajun dinner.

Four star rating is only for the chicken & andoullie gumbo and the fried shrimp. The gumbo is the closest thing to South Louisiana that you will find in Texas (believe me, I have been traveling South LA for a dozen years!) VERY good gumbo. The fried shrimp is very good as well. The boudin balls are nothing to write home about. That's all I have tried here. Go for the gumbo and the Louisiana atmosphere.

A great Cajun restaurant consists of great food, awesome music, plenty of LSU/Saints decor and beer! So as recommended by my Louisiana friend, we came to Zachary's. Here's the lineup: Boudin balls--a must have. You will not be disappointed. Roast beef po' boy--it was decent, but I would prefer for it have more on the wet side. Gator po' boy--gotta have some gator. Got me thinking that there's got to be a reason why LSU fans eat gators. Must be an SEC thing. Abita beer--a great selection of Louisiana's best. Bread pudding--peach based, this was an awesome dessert. It was so good that our table ceased to talking when we got to it. We didn't hear any live music while we were there, but they do have an open mic night. Perhaps something to add to my bucket list. I've got to imagine that this would be a fun place to be when the tunes are playing. Zachary's is nowhere close to where I live; but I couldn't help to take a menu home with me. I'm looking forward to coming back.

Great Cajun food and friendly staff! I've liked everything I have had here, and the burgers are surprisingly good too! I really like that it's not just another chain restaurant in that shopping center. Also, in true Louisiana fashion, they have Abita Beers on tap, specifically one of my favorites, Turbo Dog.

We've been here a few times and each time we've had a great experience. The burgers are surprisingly good, and I believe Monday night are $5 burgers and fries night. Thursday night is open-mic night, and $6 pitchers of beer. This is a nice little place that has pretty good food, a good atmosphere, and nice staff. I would recommend it if you're in the area.

Came here on a Thursday night, when there was open mike. Great music and atmosphere. The clientele was a very interesting mix of families and 9-5ers there after work. My food was delicious. I had the shrimp combo- étouffée and fried. Both were cooked perfectly and had lots of flavor. The green beans were equal part veg and bacon, which is a plus! Skip the chain restaurants next door and go for something authentic.

The water was cold so I gave it one star. Hope this time I don't get an upset stomach. Probably won't be back.

Not bad for Cajun food! My son loves the boudin balls, but I like the crawfish combo platter the best. Food has a great flavor but not too spicy. Growing up in Louisiana, I love spicy food but my kids do not. My one and only complaint is the live music on Thursday nights. The music is too loud and starts too early, especially when children are in the restaurant. Other than that, awesome.

This is quite shameful to admit, but I'm a half cajun that doesn't know anything about cajun food. (My family never uses roux in gumbo and until I was 28 I had no idea people ate potato salad with it. I did eat my weight in crawfish when I was little though, so I guess things balance out.) Since I don't actually know if this is authentic I can't speak to that, but it was really good. I cheated on the veggie thing here and had seafood gumbo and shared some boudin balls with my boss and colleague. Another cajun food I'd never heard of before... boudin balls! BOUDIN BALLS ROCK! If you have no idea what they are, they take boudin (rice dressing) roll it into balls, batter, and fry it. How insanely awesome is that???!!!

I was born and mostly raised in Louisiana, so I'm always skeptical of a "Cajun" place located outside of LA. Zachary's is pretty darn authentic. I haven't tried a ton of things here, but I know their boudin balls are the bomb. I almost always order the red beans and rice, my favorite comfort dish. They use quality andouille in the red beans. As many other reviews say, their burgers are the best thing they have. They're huge, they always come out piping hot, and they are well-dressed and delicious. The $5 burger day is a steal if you remember to go there that day (Tuesday, I think?). I do have one complaint, and that is that I'm always shocked at the total of our bill. It just seems like the cost isn't in line with the level of food they're serving, and especially considering its a counter service restaurant.

This place is pretty good. Their burgers are their best item, IMHO. The cajun items are ok. I'm kind of picky about my cajun food, so you may like it better. I just think it's a little bland. I also think that the food is more like bar food with a cajun bent than really cajun food. I like the boudin balls pretty well. I have had the aligator and it was so so. I would advise sticking to the burger. Overall, the food is not to be avoided, but I honestly don't go out of my way to eat here. The atmosphere here is OK too. I've been when it was dead with my party and maybe two others in the place as well as when it's packed. I think it tends to be loud in there, mostly due to the hard surfaces and lack of insulation. The kid count can get pretty high and I have seen some incredibly rude kids and horrendously uncaring parents there, but what do you expect, it's the burbs.
