My food was excellent, and I don't like fish. Ibsen been looking for a good Cajun restaurant for a while now and I found it! Overall EXCELLENT. Being paleo friendly is just a plus.

Hidden gem of Lake Highlands to say the least. Everything about my experience here was excellent and I can't wait to go back! We went for dinner on a Friday night-I'm surprised this place wasn't packed. They have TVs in the bar and indoor/outdoor seating. Great beer selection, I love any place with Abita on tap. We ordered the calamari to start, which was great. We split the jambalaya and blackened catfish, both were excellent and had the right amount of cajun spices. This place is very casual, but the service is friendly and professional. They have daily specials off-menu that I would love to try. This would be a great spot to watch a game as well!

Why this place gets the reviews that it does is beyond me. I will give it two stars only because 1. The service was good and 2. The gumbo was pretty good. My husband ordered the étouffée with andouille sausage. It was paste with crawfish, rice and tasteless beans. The andouille was really pretty good, but not good enough to offset the dismal étouffée. I got the chicken with artichokes...so ordinary, unimpressive, poor....can't go on. So sad that this place is so bad. I really wanted it to be good.

I love a good local joint! The hubs and I went after work one day to grab a beer and it was great! I felt like I was all of a sudden transformed to the Caribbean! I loved it and felt so relaxed! Not many people were there yet, but it was still early. Our bartender was super nice and conversational (but not overly). We decided to order the fried asparagus since we had heard they were delicious...and they were! They were fresh and crunchy and not at all too greasy. I was so happy! Can't wait to take the kids back and sit outside.

Love this little bar and it is in my soon to be neighborhood... Exactly 27 days to be exact. Service was great, outside seating, mall little place that reminds me of hole in the walls on the beach. Wasn't impressed with the food, so I'll be doing only drinking there! My bf and I will be regulars for sure since its going to be walking distance to our neighborhood!

Take fantastic sea food and combine it with a casual neighborhood bar and you get Offshore's. This place is epitome of local. The food is amazing and the customer service is right on par. It was my first time here last week and I already felt like a regular. You MUST try the gumbo if you come to Offshore's. If you don't order the gumbo when you're here, then you're just doing it wrong. Cajun pasta is an easy win but you pretty much can't go wrong with anything on the menu.

I've been living in the neighborhood for four months now, and finally made it in to this local watering hole / restaurant. Wish I hadn't waited. While the surrounding parking lot leaves much to the imagination, once you are inside, its like being whisked away to some seaside paradise. The outdoor patio is well designed and feels like a cross between backyard and uptown chic with a nautical flair. The cuisine is well rounded, albeit a tad on the expensive side for my taste. Service is EXCELLENT as the owner serves as both bartender and server. Highly recommended. And if you see something on the menu that you'd like to change, just ask, the staff here is very welcoming and willing to adapt.

This restaurant has been in our Lake Highlands neighborhood for several years and we just made our first visit. Boy have we been missing a wonderful place for quality cajun and other seafood delights. We arrived shortly after 6:00 pm on a Thursday and the smallish place was jumpin with customers. We were told to sit anywhere we wanted, and selected an open booth. Server arrived quickly, and we said it was our first visit and asked a few questions. Turns out the server was one of the owners and really made us feel welcome. Wife ordered a "call" martini and I had a draft beer served in a pint mason jar. We took our time and studied the menu and then asked more questions. Finally decided on an appetizer of fried asparagus which came with two dipping sauces. One was really hot and the other the usual ranch. Asparagus was fresh and crispy and was just right. Our menu choices were fish (blackened talapia) tacos and an off menu special "The Fish Pond." The tacos were served in nice warm corn tortillas with a side garnish. The Fish Pond was a huge plate of three blackened talapia filets served on rice and covered with etouffee sauce. There are several fried options on the menu a nice steak choice and a few sides. Also a small childs menu which offers a White Castle burger. Our bill including the drinks, appetizer, and two entree's was just under $50. Which we felt was real bargin. Interior looks like and old fish camp, a nice and cozy, a patio is available, parking ample, neighborhood safe. If you look for it it's behind the Circle K gas station. Open about 3:30 - so no lunch is served. We will be going back again soon and often if it continues in this manner. 4 Stars

I was real excited to try this place, the menu looked great and when we pulled up it looked like a pretty neat place to eat. We walked in and the guy behind the bar said to sit anywhere we wanted so we take a seat in the middle of the restaurant. It was hardly crowded, maybe 5 other parties total. We ended up sitting there for about 15 minutes without anyone coming by to give us menus, ask us if we would like drinks, nothing. We literally were ignored for 15 minutes and so we left. When we had first arrived we saw a couple get their order taken so it wasn't like you order at the bar or anything. I am not sure if this is a new thing where you try not to make money but this place has that down.

Cute, clean place hidden in a nondescript parking lot full of vacant store fronts. I had yummy fried asparagus and a coupla red stripes. He had a crab po boy. Recommended for beer and good grub. Reggae music. Big screen TVs. Beach vibe.

Great local dive. The po boys are fantastic and ice cold Abita on tap. Owner is really great and try's a lot of different dishes. Service is fantastic. If you live in the area this is a must eat.

I've just moved to Dallas from Austin and I've been looking for my favorite neighborhood bar. This is it!, the appetizers are fabulous, especially the fried asparagus, and the ambiance is so comfortable. We're bringing a party of twenty here after my grandson's first birthday, and Christina told my she could accommodate all our guests special dietary needs with a couple days notice. What service!! I love it here.

They have a Fish Burrito (grilled or fried) that is great! Most of the food here is spicy, so check with your wait staff before you order.

Wow, this was such a baffling experience. This was the worst food I have had in a restaurant without it being so bad that I can send it back and expect something better. My boyfriend and I came here tonight, deciding to try it after I realized that Alligator Cafe was closed on Mondays after 5 and we had a disappointing lunch at Dodie's. After looking at the menu on their website we thought we would start with some grilled alligator, and ordered this immediately upon being seated. Our waiter, Mike, was new, and returned back pretty quickly, apologizing and saying they had run out of alligator and frog legs. That was fine, in fact it foolishly made me sort of think, oh cool, then everything must be fresh. After thinking for a minute we ordered a bowl of gumbo, the huge shrimp cocktail, and the bottlecaps (which were a special on the board,) for appetizers and my boyfriend ordered the crawfish etouffee with hush puppies and veggies while I ordered the daily special blackened tilapia with veggies. Our second mistake (the first being coming here at all,) was ordering all at once, and not eating our appetizers before deciding we did not in fact want to eat a real meal there. The "huge shrimp cocktail," came out and was in fact, 5 fairly large shrimp, cooked through on a plate with cocktail sauce in a cup and a lemon slice. This was confusing as it was not a shrimp cocktail but rather cocktail shrimp, it was also confusing because at 10.95 this meant that each shrimp cost about 2.20. Each shrimp. This either requires much more elaborate shrimp flavoring or much much larger shrimp. My bowl of gumbo came out and was actually a cup, and was charged as such. It was served in a small dip bowl, like one a side order of queso comes in, or perhaps some lemon slices for you water might be brought out in. That was the first odd part. The second was that this 4 dollar cup of seafood gumbo had no seafood in it at all, and was clearly made with the jarred or boxed gumbo base and some frozen veggies, and had two tiny (think sliced vienna sausage sized,) pieces of meat, that may or may not have at one time have andouille sausage. We finished this, mostly because we both went back for bites trying to find seafood and because I was trying to identify the familiar boxed gumbo base flavor. The bottlecaps were clearly frozen and flash fried, something I don't really hold against them, though they were priced at about 5 dollars, for what amounted to a cup and a half of frozen jalapeno slices they fried up in a few minutes and slung out with some ranch. Ha! I found literally what they were! foodservicedirect.com/pr… We quietly whispered about our anger/confusion, and I grilled my boyfriend on the yelp reviews that had lead us here. Listening to the good reggae and glancing around to notice that everyone else was just drinking beers from their decent selection I had to assume other yelpers just reviewed the bar. When our entrees came out I quietly laughed. My tilapia was good, though I could have made it at home for much cheaper with a tiny bit of blackened seasoning and properly defrosted tilapia. The vegetables were what I had laughed at, they were clearly the oriental frozen veggie mix, overcooked, though truly it is hard to cook those properly, with a little garlic butter as seasoning. When I tasted my boyfriends etoufee I once again had that, hmm, this is okay, and veeery familiar feeling. That is because I had made it before, when trying all the boxed bases for etouffee with my best friend in high school. I am not sure which it was, but I am sure it was not made in house. There were very few crawfish tails in it (around a dozen,) and that was truly for the better as they were the poor quality frozen kind tat turn to semi-crawfish flavored mush. The hushpuppies were also from frozen, and I think they are a type I used to find at Target, back in those "we are too poor for restaurants let's fake etouffee,"-days. They were just called Gourmet Hushpuppies if I recall properly. Oh a wonderful topper, the griddle bread slices that came to sop up his etouffee were made with whole wheat hamburger buns. Actually the true topper was this meal cost us 50 something dollars, with two beers (which were both great and fairly reasonably priced.)

Fried asparagus can't be beat, but the fried crawfish is my favorite. Of course with Peticolas Golden Opp on tap, you can't go wrong! Offshores anytime, LakeHouse - once was enough for me.

The first impression was great - all the doors open because it was a nice, March evening. Greeting was friendly and casual. The back yard has a beautiful vine with orange flowers growing all over and a cute garden of plants. They had Miller Lite, Purple Haze and Abita Amber on draft - yummy. The wait staff was attentive but not annoying. We enjoyed fried asparagus to start - most excellent. I highly recommend this. My only regret is that I didn't try any other appetizers. Their po-boys are on delicious bread, freshly toasted on the griddle. I had the fried catfish po-boy and my husband had the grilled catfish po-boy. Both were very fresh tasting and a step up from what you'd think at a glance of the little neighborhood joint. I want to come back and try an item on the menu under "Real Nice Stuff". They've got someone back there that can really cook. I highly recommend this place. I'm coming back and am bringing people with me.

We tried Offshore's last night. The boys got some White Castle (yes folks, WHITE CASTLE) burgers. They were a hit! Hubby got the Ahi Tuna sandwich which he enjoyed & I had the catfish basket. They batter the fish in flour, which isn't right for this girl, but the fish had great flavor and the home fries & hush puppies were tasty! We loved the atmosphere & will most definitely be back!

  • Geoff W.

Small but varied beer selection on tap, had purple haze and abita amber when I was there, so at least some variation from your domestic stables. Fried asparagas was fantastic, and so were both po-boys me and the wife had. Their batter for frying was superb, very well seasoned, and complementary to the items it covered. It ain't fancy, its just plain good.

They have a very decent beer selection. Two abitas on draft, and a full shelf for bottled beer behind the bar. I had a bottle of milk stout from Left Hand Brewing Co. which was tasty. Starts tart, then mostly simple, lighter and sweet, stout flavor. Michael, our waiter, was the best part of the evening after my beers. He was a little quiet, but very pleasant and personable. Everything else was pretty awful for one reason or another. The dishes were either offensively small, frozen or ill prepared. There was very little to redeem our meal beside the beer selection. We ordered what, on the menu, said "HUGE shrimp cocktail". It was not HUGE. There were only 5 shrimp. It was not a shrimp cocktail. They were cocktail shrimp, plain and boiled, on lettuce with a lemon wedge. There was some cocktail sauce on the side. $11 The seafood gumbo had no seafood in it, and barely any andouille. A cup was about the size of a small queso dish, 4oz of soup at most. It tasted more like canned chili. $4 The jalapeno bottlecaps were decent, but they were McCain's frozen foods, I know because I've had them in my freezer before. The blackened tilapia was also from frozen. The crawfish in my etouffe were from frozen. The vegetables on the side of my etouffee were very obviously frozen stir fry vegetables, with some garlic butter on top. While the jalapenos and tilapia were cooked properly, the crawfish was stringy and the veggies were mushy. Use this place as a bar, and you'll be happy. Order some fried food a few beers in, and you might be happy. But don't go for dinner here.

The best little neighborhood bar in Texas. Cold beer big Tvs and great Cajun food. Heck even the kids like it. I've had everything on the menu, it all Rocks. Oh and most comfortable bar chairs in town.

Please read my other reviews to get an Idea of what I'm comparing this place too. 1st. -- The gumbo and red beans and rice where unique and great -- I finished both cups easily. 2nd -- the fried catfish basket which fed two of us with leftovers was the best catfish I have had in Texas -- perfectly fried --lightly and the fish was bursting with flavor and taste -- GREAT WORK A MUST TRY -- also make sure to order along with hushpuppies -- they are a must If you don't like the top two items I have outlined please just stick to long john silver's or McDonalds fish sandwich. Also as I side note of interest I asked who owned the restaurant and I found out it was the chef -- who I met before I left. It confirmed the fact this is a down home non-chain cooking -- It was definitely worth the trip and I highly recommend. It also has a full bar and beer garden for drinkers -- always a plus FYI -- I noticed some of the non-stellar reviews ordered the wrong items -- stick with the basics I have outlined above

They have a fryer and know how to use it. Or should I say they know how to use their fry batter. The onion rings, fried asparagus and catfish were all fresh, and fried to perfection in their battered concoction. Indeed, the best fried stuff I've had in Dallas. Now, I also had a cup of the gumbo. The taste was right, but the texture more resembled beanless chili with some rice thrown in? No okra, or whole shrimps, or pieces of fish, chicken or sausage were to be found. Once again, it was some good gumbo, but not like I'm used to. Considering we live right around the corner, I'm sorry that it took us this long to finally venture inside. As other reviewers have noted, the restaurant is in an otherwise vacant corner/strip mall, and the restaurant itself looks closed at first glimpse. It is, however, a great little neighborhood dive, with great food to boot. In true small place fashion, they only had enough gin to make me one G&T, on a Friday night? That cost them a star in this review. Otherwise, come on up to hip, on the verge, Lake Highlands and check it out!

Soooo disappointing. After glowing reviews, we were looking forward to trying out this new haunt in the Lake Highlands area. Alas, we weren't even sure we were in the same restaurant, based on our experience. Service: Overwhelmed and underwhelming. Two servers for the entire restaurant, including outdoors, and they just couldn't pull it off. We waited 20 minutes for simple cups of gumbo, had to go up to the bar to get refills on our drinks, and heard the poor server apologize to multiple tables all night long. Food: Everything we had tasted the same: Too hot and too acidic. The gumbo tasted as if it had been stretched with tomato sauce; there was no hint of a roux of any kind, and hardly any fish or sausage. Plus it was so spicy that our lips went numb. The fish tacos were seasoned exactly the same way. At least the rice that went with them wasn't blistering, but it was seasoned the same way. We both hit the antacids as soon as we got home, and it wasn't any fun the next morning either. I don't know if I can go back and give them a second chance. I sure hope we just got unlucky.

The service was excellent and it was a nice clean place, which I would rate that 5 stars. The food was ok, I got the Chicken sandwich with the "Cajun fries". The "Cajun fries" had to much seasoning on them, which after a while that was all i initially tasted the blackened seasoning from the chicken sandwich and the fries. I think great food shouldn't have to be drowned in sauces or spices. I'll still give it another try (food wise), although I am not entirely sold on the food, I would defiantly return because the service was wonderful, they had Abita beer on tap and the decor is nice.

Try the ahi burger and a pint of Abita on draft. Excellent!!!

In all fairness I must disclose I know the owner of Offshore's Nextdoor. I hope no one thinks this is a fluff review. I just wouldn't bother writing a review if I didn't think the restaurant deserved one. I had been in New Orleans three weeks prior to my visit to Offshore's Nextdoor so I had a strong craving for cajun food. This place is way out of the way for me but I happened to be in the area. We started with the fried calamari which was crisp and crunchy - no limp rubberbands like most other places. The two dipping sauces each had a punch that complimented. I had the blackened crawfish po-boy with hush puppies and cajun fries. The sandwhich was full of flavor and I kinda wished it was bigger but by the end of the meal I was stuffed. I enjoyed my cajun fries by dipping them in habanero ranch ~ so yummy. My dining partner had the jambalaya with andouille sausage with sides of cajun fries and cole slaw. The jambalaya had a dark rue which was full of flavor. My dining partner, who also was in New Orleans, commented that the jambalaya was better at Offshore's Nextdoor than some of the jambalaya we ate in New Orleans. Oddly, Dallas has very few decent cajun food restaurants but this place is a can't miss when craving cajun.

This place, oh this place... It was a while ago that we visited, but we had read good things on yelp/urbansppon so we were like HEY, a new place to check out in the neighborhood. Decided to order a bunch of appetizers...now I love frogs legs, absolutely love them. These were possibly the worst thing I have ever eaten in a restaurant, ever. I just, couldn't. I even said that they were inedible to our server, then I guess it was the manager that came by and asked how they were and I told her...not that it mattered, we were charged for them anyway. The grease that all the fried food was fried in tasted RANCID. Our bill with drinks was over $60!!! We were in shock. Expensive and disgusting. Whenever we drive by, I ask my husband if he wants to go to "Offshore's Backdoor" and we laugh and laugh. NEVER AGAIN. Sad cause we really wanted to like this place... When a customer is dissatisfied and you do nothing, I guess you don't want them to ever come back. Well, okay then!

I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted to like this place, and we REALLY need a place like this in our 'hood. I have never written a bad review before, but here I am, and only b/c I was pretty much brushed off by the staff here about my concerns. The relaxed atmosphere and perfect patio were awesome. The cold Abita was also awesome. I won't go into the food, b/c after our last visit I won't be eating there until some changes are made. Don't be on the patio when it gets dark, unless you don't mind the resident mice visiting you. Yes, mice and yes, resident, b/c apparently the staff has named them. I know, I know, it's outside, but if they are outside they are inside and I've never seen them at any other patio in Dallas. I'm pretty sure restaurants do everything in their power to keep them away. Not sure why Offshores needs to keep them around and name them. The next big issue that doesn't sit well is a sign outside of the bathroom that says something to the effect of "Don't flush any paper down the toilet. It clogs up the plumbing. Don't blame us, blame the Landlord". WHAT? I'm not supposed to flush paper down the toilet? That's really gross! It doesn't designate paper towels or feminine products, either. Did I totally read that wrong?! If I did, then please change the sign to say that. Oh, and the ladies' room door doesn't lock. No girl likes the feeling of no privacy. Owner: I can't imagine how hard it must be to run a restaurant in this part of Dallas in this economy. But it's the little (BIG) things that really turn people off. I want to come here and enjoy a cold one and hang out, but I have given it two visits and that's all I can do until there are some changes made. I REALLY hope you do, b/c I think this could be a knock-out-of-the-park for you and our neighborhood.

The previous reviews on Yelp really do a good job capturing what's good at Offshore's Nextdoor. Based on these, we decided to try it last night. When we drove up, the outside of the place looked run down and I worried that they may be on their last legs. However, the inside is where they have focused their attention and it is as Nick M described: "a Jamaican windsurfers Bar and Grill." Reggae was playing on the speakers too. Loved it. I can affirm that the fried asparagus with the habanero ranch is great. I had the jumbo shrimp with cole slaw. I ordered some extra habanero sauce for the shrimp too. My wife had the fish tacos. All the food has a cacun influenced flavor that is really unusual compared to other local seafood places. I can highly recommend Offshore's Nextdoor for excellent cajun inspired seafood. I look forward to going again to try other items that the Yelp reviewers have recommended!

This place is great. It is a cool atmosphere with a friendly staff. The food is the best. The calamari is wonderful. The gumbo is spicy and full of flavor. I loved my Salmon BLT last time. They also have a variety of seafood baskets, poboys, and Cajun style dishes. They have cold beer and a full bar. I am excited I found this place. I can go have a beer with friends or take the family for dinner. Either way I love this place.

Judging from the previous 2 reviews, you'd think there was a dearth of good restaurants in the NE part of Big D, especially Lake Highlands (Town Center, where art thou? Our bellies doth beckon...). And you'd be sooo right. When the wife, ankle-biters and I want to go get something Q-n-C (quick and close) it's either Mi Cocina or Picasso's. Not only did Offshore Nextdoor land right in our little ol' Lake Highlands lap, but they brought a full bar and a happy hour! It's amazing how easy I am to please... When we went, we would have accepted almost anything. We were willing to be so patient and tolerant. No need! The food was great and the service was... dare I say, "professional?" Usually, these neighborhood joints are staffed w/ less-than-great servers. Not OSND. These guys have made the rounds and were very helpful and knowledgeable. Our server helped us navigate the simple menu. He asked great questions and gave his opinion (both positive and negative) of our narrowed down choices. The winner was Jambalaya. The rice based dish had chunks of chicken breast and ample andouille sausage. The dish was complimented by an assortment of fresh red and yellow peppers. The heat on the dish was just right. It was a nice balance of fire and flavor. The most surprising part of dinner was the fresh salad that started us off. A bed of fresh GREEN salad. It too had a wonderful compliment of veggies (peppers, mushrooms and onions) on top. The kiddie food was very nice. You'd be surprised how jacked up chicken and french fries can get. Our helping at Offshore Nextdoor hit the spot. I highly recommend this place. The portion of jambalaya was HUGE. My wife and I could have easily split it. In fact, now I sometimes drop by, order it to go, drain a happy hour shiner and head home w/ dinner for 2 for $10 (including my HH shiner and tip).

I'm so excited about this place, I've been telling everyone I know. In what was once a terribly mediocre BBQ place, these guys have come in and created an atmosphere that feels like a Jamaican windsurfer's bar and grill -- but this definitely ain't Jamaica because their food is way Cajun and way tasty. Yes, despite the soundtrack of 100% reggae and Red Stripe beer by the cheap bottle, the food is more Louisiana than Marley. Our first visit I had the grilled salmon with crawfish and crab topping with a pink sauce. It has kept us coming back week after week. One weekend, I went for the special of the night which was a Salmon BLT --- I pray that they add this to the official menu, because it is the most amazing "non-italian meat" (I reserve that for Jimmy's Food Store) sandwich I've ever enjoyed. The homefries are the way to go; Cajun fries are a good idea, but last time they were undercooked (new potato quarters take a while). Also HIGHLY recommend the fried asparagus and the calamari appetizers and ask for the habanero ranch dipping sauce. The service is very attentive and friendly and I highly recommend sitting outside on the patio when the weather is nice -- it feels like you're on vacation even though you're in a strip shopping center in Lake Highlands.

Literally one of the best meals that this kind of money ($10-$20) can buy. Many unique dishes, great chef, great drinks, cheap-ass red stripe, pretty convenient location. I try to get to Dallas at least once every two weeks to eat here. If you've ever wanted to be a regular at a restaurant, this would be the place to do it. Apps - I know this is bold, but the onion rings really are the best I've ever had. They're huge and as crispy as they get. Ask for the habanero ranch and the atomic green sauce. You'll need them all throughout your meal. Secondly, the fried asparagus is awesome. It's really your call here. They're just like the onions, but asparagus. Anything else you order will be great; their menu plays to their talents. The salmon is probably the strongest item on the menu but I can't stop getting the jumbalaya. This is probably one of the overall spiciest places I've ever been. Please do try it if you live anywhere close. (Fort Worth is close enough for this place)

Nice little neighborhood watering hole, with surprisingly decent grub. Jambalaya and the catfish are no brainers, and are plenty big for even the heartiest eater. Nice little outdoor seating section allows the kids to be kids without spoiling other folks' time. The service is good, but can be a bit slow - just a heads up.

My first visit last Friday the 8th was a random drop in with no idea really of what to expect. I had a couple of beers and was given a sample of the habanero ranch. This was so good that I made a point of going back this past Monday the 11th. The beer was ice cold, and I had a split basket of fried asparagus and mushrooms with the Habanero ranch. Both were great but the fried asparagus was OUTSTANDING! I then ordered (to go) the Ahi tuna and the blackened Tilapia for my wife and I to have for dinner. WOW, the tuna with the coleslaw was like nothing I ever have had. My wife had the tilapia on a bed of pasta with a pesto sauce. She loved it but said it was way too much food. No problem - I got to have the leftovers today for lunch. Tuna is still my favorite but the tilapia and pasta was great. Mouth is watering just thinking about it - cant wait to go back. I did chat with others at the bar so I had help or suggestions regarding what to order. The service was great, but I was sitting at the bar. But judging from other patrons (2 families among others) I think everyone was happy.

Probably the worst 50 bucks I have spent in a long time, I had the salmon which was a fairly small piece and came floating in some kind of crawfish cream sauce. It was so peppery I could barely get it down not to mention it was way over cooked. My wife has a salad with ahi tuna fillet on top, was also over cooked and super dry. Waiter forgot dressing. Also had asparagus appetizer was deep fried but was pretty good. I'll never understand why some restaurants feel that the more spice they put on the better. It only ruins the food and in this case was no different. Two draft beer (dos equis) with tip was just over 50 bucks, seriously? Was not happy at all. Will not be back. Seats were also not cushioned in booths just large flat boards.

I love this place! The food is great. Please bring back the tilapia!!! The service can be a little slow at times but hey kick back and let the day roll off! That is what this place is. The calamari is the best and so is the fried shrimp. The salads are fresh and delicious! Just enjoy your time.

This is a great little neighborhood Cajun joint and I should know 'cause my family is from New Orleans. Went with my mom, my hubby and my son. All of the food was fresh and delicious. We were there early on a Friday night (about 5 PM.) and there was only one other table, but it filled up quickly and it is very kid friendly. My only complaint would be that the waiter wasn't very knowledgeable about the menu and was a bit slow, but he said that he was new, so I'll give him a break this time. All the adults got the Fried Combo Basket. It was supposed to include shrimp, crawfish, oysters and catfish, but they didn't have oysters because of the gulf oil spill. They allowed us to substitute with whichever of the other three we wanted. It was way too much food. Next time we will only buy one or two combos and split them. The combos were $15.95. My son got the the fried chicken strips with waffle fries which was only $3.95. I can't wait to go back and try other dishes on their menu. Their prices range from $6.95 for a chicken sandwhich (grill or fried) to $23.95 for a blackened ribeyed smothered in crawfish etouffe.

I love this place. The ambient and music is great but what keeps me coming back of course is the food. It can be difficult to find if you don't know where it is, but the red beans & rice, fried asparagus, giant onion rings, blackened ribeye smothered (and I mean SMOTHERED) in crawfish etouffee, cajun pasta, jumbo shrimp ravioli, etc... (I'll stop here, I could go on forever)... make it well worth the search. (Note: Jumbo Shrimp Ravioli is usually one of the specials on the board, it's not on the menu) The jambalaya is really good. Now I'm not a Jambalaya expert, it's not a dish I usually get so I don't have much to compare it to, but I know several people, who really know their food, that are from or frequent New Orleans say it's hands down the best Jambalaya they've ever had. I think that's pretty good. Personally I can't go there with out ordering their red beans & rice as a starter. My wife and I share a bowl every time we go and saturate it with tabasco. But the fried asparagus is ridiculous as well as the onion rings, so those are recommended too. I live about 1/2 a mile from this place and I go about once every week or two so I've had just about everything on the menu. But it was tonight that put me over the edge and made me decide to step up and write my first review ever for any restaurant. My wife was out with some friends so it was guys night with just me and my 6 1/2 month old. While my son was gnawing on an unopened pack of crackers, I decided to venture out and get something new. I ordered the Salmon BLT. I'll eat Salmon, but I usually don't order it. Typically there are things on the menu that seem to suite my fancy over any Salmon dish. On top of that I don't normally order BLT's, I'm more of a burger guy. With that said I'm so glad I decided to branch out, this was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. It was ridiculous. I'm actually wolfing down the second half as I write this review. Between the red beans & rice, the side salad and hushpuppies, I couldn't quite finish the whole sandwich in one sitting. I highly recommend this local Lake Highlands joint. Christina is the owner/chef and she's really been successful in bringing great cajun food to Dallas. There is a great patio area that's nice when the weather is, and for the sports fans you can nuzzle up to the bar and watch your favorite games on the flat screens. Do yourself a favor and try this place out. You won't be disappointed.

I have been to Offshore twice with my family and gotten take out several times. The food is great. Jambalaya is spicy and authentic. The fried shrimp is great. It is hard to decide between the habenaro ranch and the jalapeno tartar sauce to dip those big, yummy shrimp in. Also, the red beans and rice are a favorite of mine every time.

We found this via Yelp after I've been frantically looking for anything resembling actual Cajun food in Dallas. Being from Houston, these joints are a dime a dozen, but not so much here. Offshore's is definitely in a part of Dallas where, judging by the worried expression on my pregnant wife's face, isn't the best location, but once you get inside, our fears alleviated. It fun yet sparse. Too cold to enjoy the outdoor patio, the inside is small, but accessible and we were able to easily seat ourselves even at 7 on a Friday night. The waitstaff was nice and laid back. I had jambalaya and my wife had Cajun pasta with shrimp. Both were spicy and pretty good. Didn't knock our socks off, but I don't mean that to sound as harsh as it does. It was good just not one of those "holy cow, that was the best meal ever!" moments. The garlic toast that came with the pasta was really good as were the hushpuppies. This IS one of those hidden dive-type restaurants that's fun with friends for a few beers and Cajun grub. There's a lot more on the menu that I'd be tempted to try, but I just wanted to get the standards out of the way.

I wish I could separate into categories: Food - I would give a 5, Atmosphere - I would give a 4, and the service/ employees I would give a 1. The food is very good here, especially if you like cajun food. Just understand that it will be a little spicy, like good cajun food should be. I have never been disappointed with anything I have ordered here, and especially enjoy the fried asparagus, the blackened shrimp po-boy, the shrimp basket, and the salmon in crawfish and shrimp sauce. They have a few beers on draft - while the beer selection is not extensive, it is good enough for a place like this. I would recommend that they find a way to get their beer colder, as it always seems a little warmer than it should be. The service leaves a lot to be desired. The guy that always seems to be working behind the bar whenever we go is attentive enough, but doesn't represent the restaurant well by complaining on multiple occasions about other patrons after they leave. He likes to complain that they didn't like the food, or they didn't give a good tip, etc. He seems to enjoy drinking quite a bit while on the job as well, which is fine as long as your customers are your main priority instead of getting drunk. Offshore's will sink or swim based on its customer service and right now it is failing in that area. I would highly suggest a change in how this restaurant presents itself to customers. We enjoy the restaurant and will give it another chance, but if this isn't remedied soon, we will just take this place out of our regular rotation.

This was our first time here. It's very nice inside, comfortable and inviting. It also has a small patio area outside. The food was good but not great. I got the blackened shrimp po'boy which I liked very much. What I didn't like were the Cajun fries. The seasoning was too thick and it just didn't work for me. I didn't care for the seasoning in the slaw either. My partner had the fried combo platter which was pretty generic. It wasn't seasoned very well. We did order very basic items but if you can't do the basics well then I'm a little skeptical of trying anything else. Given that the po'boy was pretty good we might come back to try a few of the specialty dishes and see if they can win us over.

GET THE ONION RINGS! I'm talkin' five stars on that, certainly some of the best in my 35 years in Dallas. Now on to the three-star review... This was an excellent local eatery when it first opened a couple years ago, but my last two visits have been less-than-stellar. First tip: Stay away until 7pm, unless you're bringing screaming out-of-control kids of your own. Many charming Lake Highlands parents come here to couple-date but abandon their parenting skills. Second tip: Stick with the basics: their Gumbo, Jambalaya (which is really great), and their Fried Catfish are all excellent. The Red-beans and Rice were dry, but very tasty. Other dishes of note are their Ahi-tuna Club, though ask for their super-hot dressing on the side. I'm a big fan of spicy food, but there was just too much glopped on there and it killed the sandwich. Last tip: Get professional. I like the reggae on the juke, but the stoner-movie server? Not so much. And figure out if the bar serves patrons or is just a staging area. You'd do better taking it out and putting in more tables.

This is a great place with an unfortunate location in the fine-dining deprived Lake Highlands area. The landlord of this center is apparently out to lunch but he should stop in Offshores for lunch and maybe he would get inspired. Located in a former BBQ restaurant they have made the place feel and look great on the inside and the staff is warm and friendly. This is good cajun food with very fresh ingredients and I would recommend all the fried items, especially the fried asparagus. Last time I had the spinach salad with salmon fillet and an excellent ginger vinaigrette. Stop in and support the good work they are doing here, especially if you are a Lake Highlands resident. It looks somewhat forlorn from the outside but that is mainly due to the lack of expensive signage and the derelict adjacent buildings, but they have made the best of it with a cozy patio and authentic southern coastal american ambience. Enjoy a cold beer and some flavorful seafood here soon!

What a great seafood place! I will have to come back soon. The bartender (Kevin) told me they have been open for over a 1 1/2 years now. Man, I hope they make it because this place is a hidden gem. The orders we got were the blackened crawfish po-boy and the fried catfish. Both were great. The catfish was huge!

It's one of those places I hesitate to write about because I feel "special" and don't want word getting out...but this place doesn't deserve that selfishness so here goes: We live in the neighborhood and had been talking about trying this place out someday after driving past it for the umpteenth time...one night we finally got out of our habitual, boring dinner pattern and ventured into Offshore's. It's now become our go-to spot when we feel like eating out - and not just because it's convenient, we'd both drive a good ways for this place. Outside the place looks downright quaint...inside is cozy, warm and the nautical decorations are perfect. Service is fast and friendly, great liquor and beer selection and every time I order something new, I'd bet money it's the best thing on the menu. The sauces alone are worthy of mention, but combine that with one of their awesome appetizers (I'm looking at you, fried asparagus) and a side of perfectly seasoned and cooked hush puppies and then pat yourself on the back for making great life decisions. The only downside I've found is I never have room for dessert so it could be just terrible. Or more likely, it's delicious and I'll one day kick myself for having missed out on so many sweet opportunities...

We tried this place for the first time based on the Yelp reviews. It's hard to find a great seafood restaurant that's not outrageously expensive. Our waiter was very personable, it's comfortable and casual and best of all the food was amazing! The salmon was grilled to perfection with an awesome sauce with a side of crazy rice. Don't usually like rice but they mixed it with cole slaw. The taste is like no other I've experienced. Delicious! My husband had the ahi tuna sandwich which was also great-thick and yummy generous portion at only $10 with 2 sides included! We will definitely be back!

Funky little neighborhood bar. Friendly service with good food. Every time someone walks in the door, the waitress yells out, Welcome! Come on in and seat yourself. We'll be right with you! It was kind of funny, but she was flitting around and hitting every table and giving good service. We sat at the bar and Christina waited on us. She was very helpful and informative. I had the blackened shrimp tacos and they came out warm, with fresh shrimp. Hub had the ahi tuna burger with a side of red beans and rice. This place truly is a hidden gem and has a nice little patio also..

It's always a great day, when you find a new dining spot. Sweet Salmon, and the Fish Pond were absolutely fabulous. Christina, the owner went out of her way to make amazing Fried Zucchini. Ringing the bell. We'll be back soon.

Fried shrimp is great! Service is slow because there is usually just the one guy working there. I also have had the salmon and it's good but is smothered in a sauce I would ask for on the side.

Really enjoy this place. The definition of "hidden gem". Quiet, somewhat dark, comfortable setting. Laid back friendly staff that make sure you are looked after without trying to "be the show". I had the catfish basket with cajun fries and hush puppies, accompanied by the first of two Abita Amber taps. Gal Pal had the Rice Bowl special of the night, which had white rice, gumbo, lettuce and shredded cheese with corn tortillas on the side, accompanied by the first to two Cos Du Bois chardonnays. The meals were fantastic, we could carry on a conversation actually hearing each other instead of just lip reading over the noise in many other places and we left happy and looking forward to coming back.

First time here and it was fantastic! My husband got the Cajun pasta with shrimp, hush puppies and Cajun fries. Loved the pasta, very interesting rich and flavorful sauce butter bread that came with it were burned badly. The Cajun fries are great! I had the ribeye tacos (spicy) with red beans and rice. Wonderful quality on the meat, I was very happy with the flavor and amount of meat on the tacos. The beans and rice were great also! We split the Nutella cheesecake with strawberry sauce. The cheesecake they get from a local bakery and the strawberry sauce they make in house and it was great! We were however disappointed that the whipped cream was from a can. :-( Our server was really nice and on top of things, especially for her being the only server/bartender in the place on a Saturday night. She did really well though and our service was great, I think her name was Meg. I love the atmosphere and the awesome 50's and 60's music, this place seems like it belongs in a little beach town. It's nice to have great little non-chain places that serve great food and have a fun atmosphere. We will definitely be back to try some of the other menu items or to just have a drink at the quaint bar.

Modest little place when you drive by, didn't give it a second thought as we passed it on our way to a play. Afterwards, while looking at the moon on the lake, we figured it was close and easy, so we headed back based on the Yelp reviews. Yay! We weren't disappointed. Great spot to chill. They have a large full-service bar, decent wine list, and two patios! One on the front side and one in the back. Staff was real friendly, appetizers were tasty (queso and guac), music was just right. All and all a great eve and I highly recommend you drop by if in the neighborhood. Nice coastal feel and plenty of menu options if going for a meal. Oh - and pet friendly :) Love places that allow furry friends on the patio!

Great neighborhood spot, especially if you live near and don't want to drive far. Great head bartender, expedient service, solid food. Try the fish burrito, salmon or tuna burger, and anything fried. Full bar. Full of "locals". Opens at 3pm, so no lunch. Closed Sundays.

This is a great place for a little neighborhood joint. Good food, good beer. We had the fried mushrooms. The fish burrito . The half beans/half gumbo rice bowl. And the seared ahi tuna salad. Lots of Ahi done perfectly. Very tasty burrito. Good shrooms and rice bowl. Large portions. Not pricey. Can't wait to try other items. Maybe my new favorite local watering hole. If the beers were cheaper, I might be there every day.

Best service I have ever had. Our Waitress had a passion for the business. She went out of her way to go above and beyond to make our dining experience great! Gumbo is very good. Highly recommend this to anyone.

Great neighborhood place. Fast and friendly service. Food was awesome. It took some time to find this hidden gem. Definitely worth the hunt for the food and atmosphere. The jambalaya was fantastic and spicy. The onion rings were fresh made and the salad with shrimp was good as well. The staff was great and prompt. I can't say enough about them. Thanks again!

Great local bar and food but I've turned up and its been closed on more than one occasion. Phoned up most recently and the chef has answered only to be told the barman hasn't arrived and that he can't open because he's busy in the kitchen. A few other customers turned up and asked if it was going to open at the same time as us. We waited outside for 45 mins but still no one showed up. Sorry you just lost 3 stars from my previous post about this place.

Our server was Christina and she was fantastic. Its a tiny place and she was thr only waitress but she kept up with things like a pro. The balsamic dressing for the salad was very seasoned and spicy with a lingering latent pice like no balsamic spice you've ever had. It's super unique but too spicy for me. The waitress brought some Blu cheese for me to mellow the balsamic out with and even that wouldn't make it tolerable to my spice level. The husband loved the spice of the dressing and very happily finished it. We found out all the dressings are made in house. He had jambalaya and really liked it. I had the pesto tilapia and the waitress requested the spiciness be toned down for me and it was famtastic. They have 6 beers on tap (4 great ones and 2 standard) and 25 bottle selections. Everything looked to come poured in a mason jar so if you want specific glassware you might be out of luck. Overall we are deffinately coming back!

We've been wanting to try this place out and had a great first visit. Delicious Ahi tuna burger, yummy home fries, and their onion rings rocked! Good price on their Ranger IPA and happy to see some local beers on tap (I had Peticolas). Can't wait to go back to try more dishes and so happy they're in the neighborhood.

June 30, 2015 I LOVE Cajun sauces on fish dishes and have been to New Orleans several times in the past few years. The incredible Cajun food (and of course, the sauces) as well as the colorful atmosphere make every trip great. If you can't go to New Orleans tonight...well, then... Offshore's Nextdoor may help you miss The Big Easy a little less...I eat their food several times every month. Consistency is a hallmark of a very good restaurant, and everytime I eat their food , particularly their "Grilled Salmon in a crawfish/shrimp/veggie cream sauce" I am transported to the French Quarter. (Their "cajun fries, which are small bits of potato seasoned amazingly, and their cole slaw, with just a pinch of garlic, are great side dishes.) Enjoy New Orleans quality food at a fraction of the cost right here in Dallas. The grilled salmon is one of the best Cajun meals I've ever had. A very happy customer (who was NOT paid to write this review). Daryl D., Lakewood

Nice little gem of a place in Lake Highlands. Good seafood. I tried the fried shrimp po-boy, gumbo, and sweet corn drops. Flavorful overall. Service was great. Feels like a really chill neighborhood hangout restaurant. They rely on word of mouth. I'm bringing people with me next time!

Really loved this place!!! It's an unassuming area, but the food delivers! The fish is nicely fried and not greasy or bland. My favorite was the gumbo...best in town!!! The vibe is laid back and casual. I believe it's also BYOB.

Food is great and good quantity. Attentive service. Cozy and neighborly feel just a little hidden by the gas station, but word of mouth and reviews should help. Most of the food is homemade and great flavors and staff very receptive to accomodate each person and really SERVE THE CUSTOMER. Will come back, and we love the bartender's tricks with the drinking glasses :)

It's taken me over 4 years to finally try Offshore's Nextdoor. *blink* What the hell was I thinking?? The exterior reminds me of a little fish shack you'd see down on the coast - which I'm guessing is what they're going for - with a cute little patio with a few tables for those days when it's not hotter outside than the food you're eating. The interior is smaller than the outside looks which simply lends to a cozier, homier feel. There's a good sized bar (very important) and a dozen or so booths/picnic tables. I'm having a hard time holding back the gushing adjectives, so I'll just stick to bullet pointing what we ate. ~Calamari - Tasted like good calamari is supposed to taste. The shining star of this dish was the cocktail sauce. Very obviously homemade with a tangy, slightly spicy twist that made me wish I could buy a bottle or three for home. ~Gumbo - sweet Cajun goodness, I've finally found good gumbo in Dallas. Not that shrimp-stew-that-tastes-decent-but-just-isn't-right that most places serve but real-live-swamp-pot gumbo. The baskets all come with 2 sides, one of which can be upcharged to a cup 'o gumbo for $2. Do it. ~Crawfish Po Boy - So much potential but the bread killed it for me. It was just wrong. It was more Panini and less crunchy French bread I usually associate with a Po Boy. Don't get me wrong, that didn't slow me down one bit from eating the insides outta that bad boy. The blackened crawfish were damned tasty by themselves. ~Fried catfish basket - This wasn't my favorite catfish but I'm admittedly not a heavy catfish fan. The spicy seasoned fries were good but a tad too spicy for my teenager. (too bad for him, yay for me!) Again, the sauce was the best part about this dish for me. Jalapeno (habanero?) tartar. I ended up dipping the fries in it just to have a vehicle to my mouth. For realz. ~Corn Fritters and green sauce - Whooboy. This was my absolute favorite item, despite the fact that I only had a little nibble. One of the bar patrons overheard me ask our waiter/bartender about the cocktail sauce and turned around to tell us that all the sauces are homemade. He then plunked his basket of corn fritters on our table to let us try the green sauce, which is his favorite. (seriously, where else is that gonna happen??) Next time I go, I'm getting 4 orders. I may have to roll myself into the gym the next morning but it will be well worth it. If you're looking for a cozy place to hang out with your neighborhood friends all while eating the best Cajun fare I've found this side of Shreveport, Offshore's is your new best friend. No worries if you're not, I certainly am.

Went with our neighbor's here on Saturday night. Remembered hearing about it before, but had never ventured over. We decided on seafood for our dinner, I found the reviews on Yelp, and we decided to give it a try. When we drove up there was only 1 other car outside. Hmmm...good sign that we don't have to wait for an hour on a Saturday night, or bad sign, that no one else was eating there?? Turned out to be a great sign! Bar manager said their business is heavy during the week, especially Thurs nights, and Saturday is slow. OK by us. Three of us had the blackened shrimp po-boys. Best rendition of a po-boy that I've had in Dallas. Lots of shrimp, wonderful, soft bread that wasn't just too much bread, nicely dressed. Our other dining companion had the fish tacos and said they were about the best he's had. The sides are why I didn't give them 5 stars. The red beans & rice were good; mixed veggies were fresh. The cole slaw - meh. A good course chop but entirely overdressed in an entirely un-flavorful dressing. You expect a fish place to have stellar slaw. The cajun fries were just ok. Little chunks of potatoes cooked to a dark brown with some good spice. Prices are fair, service is decent, it's right in the 'hood, food was good - we'll definitely go back.

Offshores continues to deliver friendly service, consistently quick service, and some good cocktails to boot. For some reason, Thursday nights (every few weeks) is my night to take my two boys there for a bite. They like the cajun burger, I usually snag the blackened crawfish po boy, with the home fries. Traffic (read: customers) has been up recently, which is a great sign. This odd little shopping center needs some TLC, but I'm very glad that Offshores is holding the fort quite well. Don't forget great happy hour specials...and follow them on Facebook for additional special notices!

We are from Louisiana. I say that to say we have Cajun frequently. This was not Cajun. The étouffée had a curry flavor - I like Indian, but do not want it in my swamp food. The poboy was pressed like a panini. Again, I like paninis, but a poboy should have French bread. We did enjoy our appetizer; the beer was cold; the tv was tuned to football; and the service was excellent. I think we will use this as a bar and not a restaurant moving forward.

Great fried catfish with good Cajun fries! This is a cozy local spot with really good service. The interior is surprising, cozy and nautical. There is a nice patio for enjoying the good weather nights. I'll be back soon!

Glad we stopped! At first we were not even going to stop because no one was parked around the building and it looked dead, but we went in anyway. The bartender was busy with a phone call before he could get over to greet us and again I was thinking that we should not have stopped. But, he was over in no time and took our drink orders and again another bad sign...the cokes were kind of flat with a small amount of half-melted looking ice. Oh well, I thought...tooo much trouble to leave now. But, everything turned around after that. The service was great. The food was great. I had the salmon BLT.......5 stars, huge, tasty. She had the catfish basket and again, 5 stars, huge and tasty. He had the jumbo shrimp basket...tasty and filling, but nothing jumbo about the size or quantity and not worth $16 at all. Cajun fries are more like home fries and nothing to write home about....try something else for a side. Didn't do dessert this time, but I will be back.

Hooray! A great new neighborhood spot in Lake Highlands! The LH area was in need for a good seafood place! The decor is laid back with a nice outside fenced in patio area. My husband loves the ice cold draft beer and tv's (always had a game on or ESPN - another plus). The food is really good. Highlights have included fried asparagus, salmon, ettouffe, and chopped salad. The dressings taste homemade to me and the salads have lots of veggies. One warning - the habanero ranch is super super hot... Order on the side. The kids meal includes a White Castle burger option! Love that! The wait staff looks to be LH high school or college aged kids. They kids are very polite and try hard. There is a wait for food (pretty sure it is all cooked only after being ordered). The service can be spotty as there are normally only 2 or 3 waiters for the entire place. However, we just enjoy ourselves and it is fine. This place screams, "Laid Back" so have a drink and relax. One drawback is that the place is small. I imagine later on in the evening there would be a wait. Think of this as a Shell's with more Cajun flair and in Lake Highlands. This is a great option if you are in the Lake Highlands area...
