This is one of those times where I wish Yelp had the 1/2 star option, as my recent visit to Jake's would fit comfortably in the 3 1/2 range...however, based on the limited interaction I had (drive through on a Friday), the transaction warranted the 4, but it's all about proper context. Haven't been to Jake's in several months (last visit was with son's soccer team), this was more ad hoc since I got 'the hand' from the Rusty Taco (see my review from earlier) so Mrs. and I ducked in (er, drove in) for a quick Rooster Chicken Sandwhich (my favorite) and an order of sweet potato fries. First, the very 'seasoned' lady working the drive through was pleasant and actually spoke in a conversational manner (not something most drive-throughs can claim). And B, the chicken sandwhiches were spot on (jack cheese, salsa, yum), but the sweet potato fries were a tad too sweet for me (I believe it has a cinnamon/sugar blend on it), as I prefer the savory version. Oh well, they weren't mostly for me anyway. Solid if not very quick and simple late night meal, thanks Jake's!

Part of the down-home side of Dallas. This place rocks out the poppy seed bun, and at first it is kind of strange, but easy to get use to once you recognize it is just part of the overall taste it gives the burger. Also I've been addicted to fried pickles since I was a kid, and theirs were really good. If you are into out of the way dives, this is a place you must check out. It's worth every extra pound you are going to gain just looking at the menu.

Used to eat here about one a week until I really started to feel like...maybe this place is killing me! Lol, no really. Greasy burgers. They are good, but kinda overpriced. Like that you can get a six pack when you roll through the drive thru. Sweet potato fries are good, so is the Oreo shake. Not as trendy a location as some of the other Jake's, I actually really like that about it. One of the better places to get a burger in the neighborhood, recommend it.

First things first, the parking there sucks. Let's get that out of the way. However it's not enough of a reason to pass it by! Really good burgers! Poppy seed buns, which I dig. Good tots, fries, etc. This place isn't probably the best but you will always get a solid burger. Prices are a little higher compared to some other burger places that we frequent (and prefer), but a decent value nonetheless.

Oh Jakes, we were on a good run with the tots and the Flaming Rooster, why oh why did you have to supremely suck on the one time I took my carnivore of a husband to meet you? Really? Whoever left the chunk of meat with the blue FDA ink on it in the middle of his burger pretty much ruined any chance he will ever come back. Sad day for you. Before this experience I think I would have reviewed Jake's as a solid choice for a Sunday burger or if you are looking for a place to meet other sweaty soccer kids, moms & dads without being judged. Beer served and 6 packs to go are a bonus. The Flaming Rooster grilled chicken sandwich is a spicy one with pepper jack and fresh pico, slightly diet friendly and good. Tots are standard and simple but always hit the spot. The burgers are old fashioned 1/4 lb flat grill cooked, with shredded lettuce, juicy tomato, your choice of condiments and cheese on sesame seed buns.

In honor of the Weekly Yelp's theme of burger week, Francesca and I met up at Jake's in Lake Highlands to sample their cow meat. I really enjoyed the old school burger joint feel of the place. Jake's gets a star for that. The food wasn't bad, but I've had better. I ordered a number 2 (stifling giggle), which is a burger with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and mustard. I also ordered regular fries and a sweet tea. The sweet tea was really freakin' sweet. When I re-filled my cup before I left I had to mix the sweet with the regular tea so as not to overload on sweetness. The burger was had about the right amount of grease, but it was a bit thin. The price for all this was about $7.50. I may end up there again, but I would most likely try another burger place first.

I went to Jake's couple of times so far and had a good experience every time. It's a good place to go for burgers and also for lunch. Although at lunch they are quite busy. The servers are friendly and helpful. Their grilled cheese sandwich is pretty good and so is Jalapeno Bottle Cap Burger(has the right amount of kick to it). I got the Jumpin' Jake Fries one time which were just okay, Frankly I couldn't tell the difference between that and regular fries. I never got a drink here but they seem to be serving their beer in frozen glasses. They have good drink specials for Happy hour Mon-Fri $2 beers, $3 you call it's, and $2 cosmos

Om nom nom. The burgers are big. They are greasy. They are effin' tasty! They also have yummy sweet potato fries and GOOD onion rings! YAY! I usually get the Flaming Rooster but as a burger instead of a chicken sandwich. I personally find poppy seed buns delightful, so if that deters you from enjoying a burger, then please take your happy little rear somewhere else and leave the hateful comments about quality hamburgers alone. I will say this though: the first time I went to dine-in, I parked next to a vehicle in which I am pretty sure an illicit sexual act and/or drug usage was taking place. This location IS located in a semi-sketchy part of town after all. Also, the crowd inside was a bit...geriatric....and there was also lots of country music. Jake's advertises, "BURGERS, BEER, & ATMOSPHERE." Well, every place technically has an atmosphere, but old people and contemporary country music aren't exactly my thing, so I think I will just continue to get my food to-go. I might check out the Uptown location that I just learned about (I'm behind the times) to see if dining in there is any better even though their crowd is probably younger and douche-ier. They apparently have a full bar and serve 1/2 price appetizers during their daily happy hour, and I am anxious to try their green bean fries. SAY WORD.

I'm writing a whole new review because my meal was SO awful! I originally had them at three or four stars because it was the original Jake's ( who is Keller's nephew) and because they served a good basic burger. But no more I say!. My daughter had the mushroom swiss burger, which was just okay. Maybe we just had a mis-shaped piece of meat, but it was thinner than I remembered. And yes. I know they always served thin burgers and that's why you get double meat...but this was really thin. For $5.29 I should get a little piece of meat in there. We had the seasoned fries--very little taste. We had fried pickles which were long dill spears of hot greasy death--and they were the best part of the meal. Who the heck said "let's not have little slices, let's do the whole spear?" Because that person should have to eat them. This was three days ago and I still have burney places from the pickle pulp getting so full of hot grease. And now the biggest disappointment of all. If you are not going to put the freaking hot dog on the grill at a burger joint...do not sell hot dogs. It tasted like it was boiled. It was not as good as the 7-11 hot dogs you can get next door. I would have thrown it away and walked next door but it would have appalled the munchkin. She's never sure what to do when mommy causes a scene. I figure she will get used to it. We spent $20 on dinner at Jake's expecting a great deal more. Trust me, it won't happen again. Jake's has slid down that long hill of hamburger death. I'd rather hit Mickey D's. AND I KNOW YOU GET PAID CRAP AND WORK SUCKS BUT PLEASE TURN DOWN THE BAD MUSIC WHEN YOU HAVE KIDS IN YOUR FAMILY FRIENDLY EATING ESTABLISHMENT. Wow...seems I have some bitter rage going on.

I had the #8 with jalapeno bottle caps. The burger was absolutely giant. I mean this thing was huge. The burger was very good and cooked damn near to perfection. I also ordered the cheese fries which were decent but the were a little light on cheese. I loved the poppy seeded buns except for some always getting stuck in my teeth. I must say I have never been but I think I will be going back the burger was pretty good and very filling. I only wish I would have tried the sweet potato fries or the onion rings. I think I will next time until next time Jake keep the food ready for me.

We were on our way back from Dallas blooms and saw a sign for Jake's - I'd never been but had seen reviews so I talked my fiance into trying something new. We got 2 Jake specials, an order of the seasoned fries, an order of onion rings and 2 sodas. Our order came up pretty quick - 5-7 min I think - tops! My burger was good - not like the best burger I've ever had, but better than fast food. It wasn't as good as Kenny's or mooyah or even Fuddruckers if you ask me, but it was ok. The fries were delicious but I picked a side of ranch to dip them in (22 cents!) and the ranch was nasty. I didn't even use it. My fiance like his onion rings and I thought they were pretty standard - didn't rock my socks off but they were decent. Overall - its a decent burger but it's not making my top 3. I can think of better places to ruin my diet with a burger.

  • Jill M.

Yummy hamburgers! Juicy and well seasoned, the burgers come with a special sauce (1000 Island) and on a poppy seed bun. The atmosphere is pretty fun, but there's not much to see, really. They do have pretty good beer prices here, too, but this isn't really a place I'd go for happy hour. More of a weekend lunch spot.

I'm coming around on Jake's... I had a string of bad experiences with service a few years ago, and I avoided it for a while. Plus, in Lake Highlands, there is a fanatical devotion to the place that I just couldn't figure out. We went back. I would like to officially retract my previous complaints. Thank you. We grabbed a couple o' burgs and brews, along with some cheese fries... It was fantastic. The missus ditched the trademark poppy seed bun, and was glad to have that option. I went full-bore old school and had to use all of my superpowers to avoid slapping bacon on my cheeseburger. Both were delicious... Maybe coulda used a little more flavor in the patty, but overall juicy and good. The cheese fries with ranch for dipping were artery-clogging and sublime. Jake's, do you think maybe we could start over?

They have great cheddar fries. The sweet tea is grand also. The burgers are nice and big. Jakes special is my fave. Sweet potato fries are addictive. Staff is nice, all of them.

    (4)
  • Chase D.

Ordered the Jakes special, fried pickles and chili cheese tatter tots. The burger was ok, no flavor in the meat even though there were 2 patties. The pickles were very bland once again another lack of seasoning, did enjoy the tots though. Over priced and not good, not sure how they won best burger in 2010.

  • Steve M.

Poppy seed bun!!!!! I wish more places used them. Great burger, greasy, but tasty. The fries are very good too. Not as good as Five Guys fries, but nobody can compete with those. It seemed a little expensive, but is way better than fast food.

  • Marvin L.

The burger here was pretty good. Yes the meat is very thin, and there was an obscene amount of lettuce included which propped up the burger. If they would season the meat more I think this would actually be a better product. The bun tasted buttery and was toasted on the inside and soft throughout, with poppy seeds falling everywhere. The beer was cold and fairly priced. Nothing special overall.

Heard good things about this place and its down the street so why not? They have some unique burgers such as November's burger of the month : frito pie burger, I personally didn't care much for it nothing too special but the bff liked it. Cheeseburger topped with a few fritos and chili on poppy seed bun. I opted for the #14 based on the cashier's recommendation. It is their siganture burger double cheeseburger with the works..allow me to elaborate greasy burger, cheese, shredded iceburg lettuce, huge tomato slice, mayo, huge onion slice (i mean the size of my burger bun slice), all on a excessively covered poppy seed bun. there are so many poppy seeds on this bun its amazing. They are big burgers but nothing out of the ordinary. I was a little disappointed in their menu they didnt have any true signature items, i really was looking forward to that. All in all it's a decent burger joint to have down the street from us that has a bar and an open patio. p.s. Their food items are fresh and you can tell

  • Carlisle R.

I love this Jakes these are the best burgers I have ever tried. The jalapeno burger is off the chain. I prefer this location over the uptown one because the uptown one is full of douches and the staff is very unprofessional.

    (5)
  • Dan L.

What a solid burger! Go in, make an order, sit at your table, wait for your number to be called, then go to town on a great burger. People have said this this place is better than Keller's, but I do have to give the edge to Keller's. And believe me this is not an easy decision. If you have a burger craving, Jake's will definitely fill it.

  • Coston M.

This burger was poorly build. Half way through eating it was all over the place. The menu was too big to be good. The fires were weak. The bun wasn't toasted enough. The meat itself was overcooked. It came out quick which was nice but it was just poorly constructed. More salt on everything would make this burger a 4 star place.

  • Dave W.

I have had a chicken burger and a bacon cheeseburger from here and I have to say I have had better. It is OK but it is not a "I have to go here" place. The buns are by far the worst thing and the tots are by far the best thing. The meat is good but I thought mine was dry the last time. No waitresses at this one, self serve all the way. I like the idea of drive-in beer with a good burger. The beer prices are basically the same as the liquor store. The next time I come to this location I will use the drive-thru and by a couple of 6 packs of Miller High Life.

I'm not a fan of all the seeds on their buns. Otherwise they have a good burger.

Sometimes calorie counting just has to hit the back burner in favor of the ultimate all-American meal: a big juicy burger, load of fries and an ice cold Coke (or beer, whichever floats your boat). Jake's is the place I hit up when I'm having these types of cravings. You can always count on their huge, tasty burgers smothered with cheese and sitting on a toasty sesame seed bun. Indulgent, no doubt, but worth every bite. The grease usually leaks through the wrapper, so grab yourself some napkins! Yummm... grease ... Their "Jumpin Jake" seasoned fries are fantastic. Hot, fresh and chock fun of seasoning salt, they make the perfect partner to the delish burgers. You can eat inside this location, or hit the drive-thru. Because the neighborhood is not-so-hot, I typically do drive-through. They also sell beer, if you need a cold one with your meal.

I've been to Jake's in Uptown dozens of times, but only twice to the Lake Highlands location. Menu's basically the same, but this location offers cheddar fries. The Uptown cheese fries are pretty terrible...just melted nacho cheese poured on them, but these are decent. Not nearly as good as Snuffer's cheddar fries, but pretty good. The burger patties are thin, which is probably why most of their burgers are doubles. The Jalapeno Bottle Cap Burger is my favorite, but get it with thousand island and make it a Spicy Jake's Special. The Flaming Rooster is a great chicken sandwich and comes with hot mustard and pico de gallo. The regular fries are average, the Jake's Fries are better (seasoned), and the tots are tots - I've never had bad tots and I've never had great tots anywhere.

    (4)
  • Melissa W.

I had the Jakes Special. It is pretty good but the burgers are really greasy and the buns have poppy seeds that get everywhere. The location is okay, not as fun as I would have hoped, but we got great service.

  • David J.

Great burgers and fries. We had a Jake's Deluxe and a Red Steer burger. The taste of the burger and fries was superior to other fast food restaurants.

  • L S.

When I lived in Dallas this was a staple at least once a week. Awesome burgers and tator tots. The red steer or the Jalenpeno bottle cap burger are some of the best burgers I have ever had..Service is great whether dine in or take out. Highly recommend!

  • Megan D.

Next time, I'm just getting fries. They're fairly thick cut with the skin still on and salted just right. I loved them. I got a regular cheeseburger, which was okay, but nothing great. I do like the poppyseed buns they have. I did the drive through. I expected my cheeseburger to be hotter and fresher than it seemed to be, as I had to wait a few minutes. That drive through at 10 pm is probably not a really good hangout. I felt like I was sitting in an alley just waiting for trouble. Also, I think I should spell it "thru" rather than "through." It seems like I may have enjoyed the McKinney location one time more than I did this visit. I'll have to try it again sometime and see. What I'd really like is a Burger House cheeseburger with Jake's fries. That's always the way.

  • Abra B.

Well, I went there this weekend and was told no vanilla or cherry flavoring available. So, I guess sometimes they do and sometimes they don't. :(

  • Trina H.

I would have to say, the Jake's I knew back in 2007 was WAAAY better than the Jake's I had just recently. The burger was just horrible. The lettuce was wilt-y, the buns were soggy, and the meat... I could've had better at McDonald's. Perhaps they were just having an off day, but I will not be taking my family back to this location again & I wouldn't recommend it to anyone either.

    (1)
  • Michael M.

A close second to Jack's for burgers in Dallas. The Jakes Special is the move. I love that you can get tater tots instead of fries, not that the fries are anything to miss. Shakes are great here. This place is a bit farther away than the one on McKinney but worth it for the old school burger house ambiance. One of the cheaper lunches you can get.

    (5)
  • Michael H.

Get the Flaming Rooster. No, it is not an extremely gay chicken. It's a chicken sandwich with spicy mustard, chopped jalapenos, tomatoes, onion and is pretty darn good. Really the only reason I go. The burger is decent, but I don't crave it fortnightly. If you like the burger, you might as well save a few bucks and go to Kellers around the corner for virtually the same one and cheaper beer.

    (3)
  • Mitzi T.

My sister & I went to Jake's last week after doing some shopping at Target and I have to admit that the food was great. We had turkey burgers with the tater tots (nothing too fancy). The service was relatively quick & the prices were reasonable. The food was very filling so be prepared to feel stuffed afterwards. I would definitely return to Jake's to try other items from their menu.

    (4)
  • Daniel M.

The sweet potato fries have sugar & cinnamon on them, and the tables, bugs. If you are jonesing for Jakes burgers, it's worth driving to the uptown location!

    (1)
  • T J.

The place seems like a hole in the whole, but the food makes up for it. I had the Jakes Special with onion rings and malt. It tasted great. The burger meat was seasoned just right. I would definitely go back again. They have one of the best burgers in the Dallas area. The menu did have a Vegetarian burger, but did not try it.

  • Lance H.

Get a #1 with onions, and you'll thank me for the Best Burger EVER! And this is the original location, i'm a Lake Highlands boy, gotta stick to my roots. The location on Mckinney is just as delicious. Just had to get my first review out of the way, i promise to put more heart into my others. Boomer

  • Craig F.

I grew up about a mile from this place so I guess my review is biased, but who cares? Here's the straight scoop. The burgers are nothing short of AMAZING. There's only one place I've been to that beats it and it took me over 20 years to find it, so that should tell you something. Very good fries and tots but my favorite item to go with the burgers is something a bit more recent....the Texas Taters! Breaded and fried mashed potatoes with bacon, jalapenos, and cheese....just plain awesome. They also have great corn dogs and a pretty damn good milkshake as well, but if you stick to the burgers you'll be alright. Everytime I go to Dallas to visit family, I stop here once...maybe even twice if I have the time! Note: If you'll notice, I've reviewed one other Jakes location and have given it one star. The food they serve there isn't the same AT ALL...so don't go there thinking you'll get a 5 star burger. Jakes on Skillman is the original and still the best!

  • Francesca L.

This is the exact halfway point for Leslie P and I so we met up for lunch here..Plus neither of us had ever been and it was Yelp Dallas Burgers week so what the hell. Anyway, I tried #4 the Steer which is hickory sauce and raw onion plus i had a side of onion rings (no i don't care if my breath is bad later haha). The burger was fine. The meat wasn't seasoned or anything and didn't have any special taste. The soft and warm poppy seed bun is certainly what made it stand out. The onion rings were BLEH. No taste at all and I don't like the breading.

    (3)
  • Ronald G.

Why waste your money on McDonald's or Burger King when you can the best burger in Dallas. Try the burger of the month, as the name implies it changes each month so you need go back every 30 days. You can also get a six pack at the drive through.

    (4)
  • Tara E.

Darn good cheese burger ! Good taste, size and toppings. The fries were super soggy, limp and half were discolored. The flimsy bun... Holy poppy seeds !! Way too many of those bad boys !

  • Martha R.

Jakes has always been our go to burger house but today may be the day I rethink and change my choice. My friend told me his experience with the rotten salad he got the day before had made him decide to go somewhere else but I really was feeling a Jake Burger fix. Well, I'm cured. The hamburger meat couldn't have been any thinner. I actually only had a tomato, lettuce, pickle and onion sandwich with hamburger grease. I realize that costs on meat have gone up but people, you have to either raise your prices to cover the cost of a real hamburger or call it something else. My friend had a grilled chicken sandwich that was the same. Grilled chicken pounded so thin you could see through it if you held it to the light. It's sad when things don't stay the same.

I was pleasantly surprised that I got an email from earl the district operations manager for Jakes. However the apology came off as less then genuine. Like one of those nuanced apologies that admits nothing but kind of apologizes for something...maybe... sort of. In this case earl apologized for me feeling i got sick after eating at Jakes. So in case I wasn't clear in my review. Earl....I keep a food journal. I can tell you how many calories, how many grams of fat, how many grams of carbs how much sugar how much sodium I take in on a daily basis. I eat extremely clean....except one meal a week. One the day in question. I had a photo shoot and ate nothing....nothing at all....until it was over. I went right to jakes....ordered a burger with mushrooms and cheese. Had them cut it in half. I ate one half and within the hour my stomach was churning...to the point i ate nothing else for the evening. At bed time diarrhea and fever were upon me. Earl. I dont FEEL i got sick from eating a Jake's. I KNOW i did. I was sick for days...i wasnt reviewing you guys for an apology...but if you are going to offer one...OWN IT. Say youre sorry.... say you met with the staff and are doubling down on your efforts to maintain your high standards of blah blah blah.... Instead of leaving me feeling you're questioning whether I got sick from Jakes or not you should be questioning how many other people got sick that night from Jake's.

  • Makarov O.

They are really proud of their burgers and the price shows it... I've been coming here for years and the only thing that changes is the price of everything creeping up. Only a couple of years ago a burger, fries and a drink would run you about $7.50 today is $12.25... inflation doesn't explain an almost $5 increase.

  • Jake V.

There is a reason why this place has been opened since 1985. Its the BEST damned greasy hamburger in Dallas. I prefer this location over the others, because it's small, quiet, the staff is much nicer the food is far better, and you don't have those Hooters/Twin Peaks like servers flirting with you for a better tip! And best of all......The name is cool!

Had Jake's Burger for the first time on my 21st Birthday last year in Uptown off of McKinney.I had the Jake's Special and thought either this was the best burger I had ever had or underestimated just how inebriated I was. Well, yesterday in all my sobriety, I order the very same Jake's Special I had a year ago over off of Skillman location this time. All i have to say is Wow! and honestly, that's saying a lot for a self proclaimed foodie. I ate ever delicious bite. The bun unique, the meat perfectly seasoned in all its greasy glory. Just thinking about it now is making my mouth water. But what really makes it all come together is the thousand island dressing (which I would never would of put together) So I can't speak to the other burgers on the menu but the Jake's Special has me hooked line and sinker and truthfully, I kinda like it! As far as this particular location, They have a Drive-Thru! Now, this is an Extra Bonus for those On-the-Go or, lets be honest, too raggedy or lazy to go in! And guess which one I did, yup! They were pretty quick about it, too. Especially for being a traditional walk-in burger joint than a national fast food chain like Whataburger. Thumbs up to consistency in quality, too. It's nice knowing which location I wonder into, it's gonna be good. I have to say one negative thing for all the good I said though. Well, really it's a suggestion, but how about having a combo meal instead of every item being a la carte... Just a friendly thought.

  • Ben R.

I first encountered Jake's through its close proximity to my new apartment in Lake Highlands. Thankful for its drive-through on a rainy night, I ordered a Jake's Special with a side of regular fries. It was the first in a series of visits that stirred a love-hate relationship up between me and Jake's. I hated that I loved their signature, greasy gutbuster of a burger, but the love has faded and return trips were often hit-or-miss. Some nights, the burgers seemed excellent; other nights, like they were sloppily cooked and hastily thrown together. The only side worth getting here is the Jumpin' Jake fries. Their regular fries are nothing to write about. They were undercooked and underseasoned. Their beer battered onion rings are a disappointment for $2.79, falling into some of the worst I've ever had in my life. All-in-all, when the burgers are done right, they redeem any other mishaps the meal might have, but not enough to warrant above a three-star review. There are plenty of better burger joints around Dallas.

  • Rick L.

We absolutely love this place! It has become a family tradition to eat at Jake's every Thursday night. I usually order the Jake's burger and Bottle Caps (fried Jalapeno slices). My wife likes the Cowboy burger and fried green beans. I would give five stars but they recently changed something. The fried appetizers come with Ranch dressing and they clearly changed brands or something. The Ranch tastes watered down and not nearly as flavorful. Change back! By the way, this location is one of the few places left in Dallas where you can still buy beer at the drive-through...if you're into that sort of thing...

  • Bucki R.

Been going to this place for years, but lately, they have been sloppy in the Drive-Thru. Ordered Cheese Fries with Extra Ranch. Got home and NO RANCH! And I even asked the guy when he handed them to me. Seriously, I didn't drive back, ate a few bites with NO RANCH & I was done. Service not consistent, food not consistent - too many GOOD burger joints in Lake Highlands - so I be checking those out!

Treated myself to birthday burger, so I headed to Jake's for my second time there. The first time, I had the Jake's Special and cheese fries; this time, it went with the "Burger of the Month" (a Frito Pie Chili Cheese Burger), tots and a chocolate malt. In both cases, the burgers were "all that!" The Jake's Special has double meat, cheese, lettuce, tomato and Thousand Island dressing everywhere. The Frito Pie Chili Cheese Burger has double meat, shredded cheddar cheese, chili, chopped onions and Topped with Fritos. After my first experience, I ate this burger with a knife and fork, which made this very big, potentially sloppy, bit of heaven manageable. The tots were crisp and tasty. The chocolate malt was very good, although it is not necessarily bargain priced. If you're in the mood for one, however, it is well worth the $ 3.25. I have a feeling I won't be waiting until my next birthday for my next burger from Jake's. Yum!

ordered a burger with everything. and fries it was good. Really good. and I went through the drive-thru so that was convenient on a day that I just wanted to go home and eat in peace. I like this place and will hangout inside next time and have a beer or 2 with my meal.

I always get the loaded fries and they are the best! I also get the #16 and it is awesome with the pico! Great place to try.

Great food, great athnosphere and great service. I just thought it was a little overpriced because you have to buy the sides and drinks. Anyways. I bought a turkey burger wich was very juicy and well seasoned. The poppyseed bun was awesome. Onion rings were well battered and crunchy. Will definitely be back to try other items on the menu. I wish the had a combo

I'd never been to a Jake's but had heard that people liked it a lot. We won a silent auction and it came with a Jake's gift card so we decided to make the trek out to the nearest Jake's. It's not what we expected. If you've ever been to a Purdy's, that's what we thought it'd be. It's nothing like that. It's more like a nicer Burger King, but not that much nicer. It's kind of a dive, but it has a charm to it. I equated it to a bar, but better lighted. The tables and chairs are in disrepair, but it's not as bad as it sounds. Location: 2 Stars. It's not in the nicest part of town. At least it doesn't feel like it. On the way to Jake's we were following a late 90's Suburban. At first, we thought the driver had thrown a cigarette butt out the window and sparks were flying from that, but the sparks just kept on coming. Every couple seconds more sparks would fall. It smelled like sparks from cutting steel with a cutting disk. Smoke was starting to come out of the wheel well. We pulled up along side of them and signaled them to pull over and they stopped at a liquor store. When couldn't turn with them and had to make a U-turn back. When we caught up with them, they were in the liquor store buying beer. I couldn't locate the source of the sparks, so they just drove off as if nothing happened. We continued on to Jake's next door. The food: 5 Stars. Delicious. I got "The Works": Two patties, bacon, onions, double cheese, lettuce, cheese, mayo, etc. It was a hearty burger and was completely satisfying. I didn't like the texture of the poppy seed bun, but it wasn't terrible. Also the bacon was crisp which I wasn't expecting and it may have contributed to why I didn't taste the bacon. The Wife got the Single Meat Burger with Swiss Cheese and Mushrooms to make a single patty Mushroom Swiss Burger. The onions were placed all on one side of the burger, that was her only complaint. We also ordered a side of sweet potato fries. I think these were, hands down, the best sweet potato fries, I've ever had. They come sprinkled with sugar and cinnamon. Even after they got cold, they were still good. I don't know what they do to these fries, but they were frakkin' good. Just a nice crisp fry with enough softness inside to make it good. I don't even like sweet potato fries. I can't imagine what their normal fries taste like. They have covered seating that is open to the outside. It would have been nice had it not been 55 degrees outside.

For Lake Highlands location - I've noticed the last two visits the quality of the meat has deteriorated; in fact not even sure if they grill them. The "meat" is some kind of processed something and no grill or fry marks; texture makes me think they're microwaved. I hate this cause Jake's used to be the best. Not worth the price unless the get better meat.

Keep driving. They must've sold. Food no where near what it was, very disappointing because they used to have some of the best burgers in town. When they closed Addison location, this one seems to have suffered.

This place is awesome. Fast food vibe with restaurant quality. Burgers are made fresh with limitless varieties. Cheese fries are fresh made and baked with reel cheddar on top just like you get at a sports bar. Milk shakes are made fresh with all ice cream. Prices are very reasonable and service is quick with a drive through option. Beer is on tap and TVs are available if you wanted to catch the cowboys game.

I have been to Jake's three times now as it is my husband's favorite LH haunt. Having my own favorite hole-in-the-wall haunt in St. Louis (shout out to Carl's) I understand the appeal to the locals. This burger joint on the side of the road has old beer signs on the wall, a few TVs playing the latest college and pro sports games and a cool "patio" area that appears to be a renovated garage. I don't remember what I ordered the first time I visited, but the last two times I ordered Jake's Special. It is a pretty standard burger and actually reminds me of a burger from Steak N Shake - lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, two patties and thousand island dressing on a delicious poppy seed bun. They have 6-7 bottled beers and, of course, Shiner on tap. My husband goes gaga for the tots, so I have to assume this would be a great place for 'Tot Lovers' (I myself am a devout "fry-natic"). The order-to-consumption speed is less than 5 minutes, so that is definitely a plus (Every time we go my husband says "Yes, we beat the crowd" ... Coincidence? I think not). Overall - Great burger and experience if you're wanting a quick bite to fill you up and to make your significant other's day :)

If you've been to Kellers then you've been to Jakes. Pretty much the same menu. I had the Flaming Rooster which is kick a@@. Fries are good, hand cut with peel on. Good selection of beverages including bottled and draft beers. A solid burger at a fair price.

Pretty good burger but pricy. Sides are not included either. That would be a nice option. With so many burger places these days, this place is just ok.

C'mon folks... too many 4 and 5 stars reviews on here!! There must be a lot of LH homers or just a lot of folks that have no clue what a good burger is on Yelp. I've done this particular Jake's 3 times now. I guess it holds special charms for some people and I like the hole in the wall/package store vibe. It seems like a place that would have excellent burgers. It does not. Are they horrible? No. What they are is thin, dried out patties on doughy, poppy seed buns. Only saving grace is the big hunk of onion and tomato to help lubricate mastication. This last (I mean last) trip, the service was especially absent minded. My wife's BLT sandwich was lacking the requested extra tomato, my burger was lacking requested jalapenos and did I mention the patty was dried out?? AND not warm enough to even melt the cheese.... and speaking of cheese... the stuffed jalapenos were stuffed with day-glo yellow cheese instead of the cream cheese that the cashier said they would. (How do you not know this?) The tots are fine, but hey, they're tots... I've also gone the chili dog route before... meh. So if you've never been to Jake's... you've escaped a prime example of severe mediocrity. My advice to Jake's. If you're going to serve thin burger patties, then make sure they are not overcooked and dry but warm enough to melt cheese. And maybe you do have a non-poppy seed bun available, but I didn't ask and didn't see it as an option. Fix at least those two and you'd do a lot better on my burger scale.

Jake's is a super yummy burger place with character & an old timey charm. Their poppy seed buns & "special sauce" make their burgers a step above the rest. I love the turkey burger, a healthier alternative to their original number 1. It is always fresh & piping hot. They also have the tastiest & sweetest sweet potato fries around. Crinkle cut & served with a side of marshmallow for dipping, they are more like dessert than a burger side. This particular Jake's is MUCH more of a dive than the other Jake's locations I've been to. Don't expect Addison style service at this quaint restaurant. Bonus: this one is equipped with a drive thru where you can order six packs to-go.

Maybe it's the LH girl in me, but I can't get over the fact that Jake's doesn't have AT LEAST a 4 star overall rating. C'mon y'all! I come back to Dallas a couple of times a year and I definitely have a list of must-visits while I'm back. Jakes tops that list. Don't get me wrong, we have outstanding burger joints in San Antonio, but Jake's is a freakin' institution people. If you haven't sat on the patio and waited in agonizing anticipation for your chili-cheese burger and tots while carving your name into the picnic table, then you haven't lived. Recently, the bff and I were in search of Vitamin G, and this was obviously the answer. Now that we're grown up and need much longer recovery time, I'm grateful for the divey drive through that allowed us to pick up and take home to eat in bed while watching two seasons of Homeland. Don't judge me. The poppyseed buns, the thick-battered onion rings, the unslurpably thick chocolate milkshake - they all taste like good times...and maybe guilt and shame...but mostly just good times.

I love burgers and am always wiling to try another. I have only been here one time though. They have good prices and make a good burger, but it's not ground-breaking or anything. There are so many great burgers here in Dallas that I haven't had the desire to go back. I had the chili burger, which was good and I really did enjoy the poppy seed bun. It's fun that you can sit down and drink a beer with your burger too. But I definitely wouldn't choose this over a Maple and Motor burger.

Have been to Jakes a few times these past couple months. I always get the Jakes Special and a drink. Sometimes fries. The burger is a regular burger. Lettuce, tomato, onion, regular burger stuff. It all does come together quite nicely. Very tasty stuff. The burger does tend to get quite messy and breaks apart but the deliciousness quickly makes me not care. The fries are alright. Nothing special there. I have had chili cheese fries and while they don't seem very good for you, they are damn good. Overall, I really enjoy eating at Jakes. The staff has been friendly and the food has been consistently well made.

Good burgers and chicken sandwiches and I have to say the best fries in Dallas. The one thing that is not right is the poppy-seed buns..they are awful, messy and not well thought out. Get white buns and it would be the best in Dallas.

I have never really had a problem with Jake's. I guess for that the price is OK. Food is good but nothing too special. I will say that the service has always been pretty slow. I know it takes a while to cook things, but I have seen my food sit in the window for a while. I do really love their sweet potato fries, but lately they have been a bit too soggy for my taste.

You're better off eating there so the stuff is fresh & hot. Nice beer selection. Everything is good. Lots of decadent stuff. Great place to take visitors from out of town. I effing hate poppy seeds, but that's my problem, not Jake's. Don't get me started on the poppy seeds. I'd really like to punch them all but they're too tiny.

Jake's has the best veggie burger, hands down - better than Cosmic, better than Central Market, best ever. I'm a meat eater and sometimes even order this for something different or if I'm on a healthy kick. Jake's has a pretty good meat burger as well with lots of options. Not my fav burger in the world, but a good burger nonetheless. I have to add a * for the sides - the fries are great - both the regular and the sweet potato...plus they have tater tots, onion rings and then chili and cheese varieties of them as well. This is a good lunch staple for me and my work compadres....we always get back to work on time, full, and loaded with poppy-seeded smiles.

This is a homer pick...however, Jake's is clearly my favorite burger place of all time. The menu has some absolute star items: The Works and The Flaming Rooster (a juicy grilled chicken sandwich smothered with jack cheese, spicy pico de gallo, and yellow mustard -- note: I would request it as part of my last meal). No local orders fries...the traditional method is pairing a burger with Tots and a Shiner Bock. The fries have always been an afterthought, but the tots are like crack. Part of the appeal is that Jake's IS a greasy, divey burger & beer joint that thrives on a Friday Night Lights crowd. It is one of those rare spots that encapsulates living in Dallas.

I have dreamt of Jake's Hamburgers many times. This is not food you should eat often. BUT. When you're feeling sinful, load up that burger and match it with some onion rings. Yes, these burgers are WAY better than any burger chain, or Chili's chain. This location is the original before the hipper downtown location. The parking is difficult because of the makeshift drive through, but it has a low rent charm. Dallas folks already know about Jake's so this review is purely for the out-of-towner. Please check it out, and compare to your local burger heaven.

Why oh why oh WHY do I torment myself with greasy American food? Jake's has the method down pat, except they have 49 selecctions on the menu. I mean, why do you need to have a special menu selection for a burger with jalapenos? You know? I mean, why not just say "hey would you throw some jalapenos on there for me?" Anyway, no complaints about the service or the place being clean or anything, just really really greasy!!
