This is the spot for my family and I to have a nice Saturday afternoon lunch followed by a treat next door (Amy's Ice cream). The food is always good. I really like the crunchy fish sandwich it is sooo GOOD! The customer service could be a little better, I like smiles. There is a playground located in the back where my husband and I play with our twins. We have a blast!

Best burger I've had in awhile! Fresh avocado, cooked onions, Bacon tasted a little funny probably wouldn't get bacon on my burger again. Maybe it was the seasoning or the bacon was just to tough? But all in all it was really good! Plus Amy's ice cream who can't beat that! Definitely will be going back again

I have another opportunity to check out Phil's Icehouse in North Austinville today. My son's class was on a school field trip this morning and the teacher made arrangements for us to stop there for lunch on the way back to school. First and foremost, the service today was very good. While they were expecting us, we are a rowdy bunch. We were warmly greeted and our orders were taking quickly. The staff were very patient with the kids. Each meal came out fast and hot. That fact means a lot with so many different and some special orders. The staff and manager kindly checked in with us frequently. All the kids enjoyed their food and ate quickly so they could enjoy the playground. I sat with a few other parents who'd never been. All of them really enjoyed their burgers and were very impressed at the location. This time, I have to say my full-sized Travis Heights burger was cooked perfectly medium- medium well (warm with a little pink) and the toppings were tender and juicy. I think you've stepped it up perfectly. You've certainly gain some new fans and my own family will be back! Thanks, y'all!

One of my favorite burgers in town. This location is far more comfy than the original and I daresay the food is hotter and fresher as well! My old standby is the 78704 burger but I've really fallen in love with the Holy Fuego lately, it has great toppings yet they are not overpowering the burgery goodness beneath. The burgers are well sized, so beware of that if you're not too hungry! If you want a smaller meal, I recommend the mini burger half basket. I'm pretty sure you can get two different burgers in it if you want to, too.

If you've never been to Phil's Ice House, it's definitely a place you need to stop by. The buns they use on their burgers are delicious! They've also got local sodas in the soda fountain, which is incredible once you are open to them. The only drawback to this place is that it is very loud. No carpeting, no soft decorations, and lots of people - especially children who yell or scream. If noise ruins your meal, avoid the place. If you can put up with it, you're in for a treat. Personally, I can't stay away from their burgers. I've tried their turkey burger and their chicken sandwich and while they're some of the best I've had I just keep coming back for the beef. I also get an order of sweet potato french fries, which I didn't even know was a thing until this place served them to me.

I'm glad I found this gem. We went with a group for lunch one day. Everyone loved their burgers. I did a build your own with sweet potato fries. The service was great, we didn't have to wait long and all of orders were correct. The buns are very tasty and they have a wide selection of burgers. It is also a good location for children with the playground outside. And added plus Amy's Ice Cream is right there if you have room after your burger!

They have an awesome playground, great for outdoor fun and plenty of shade. The burgers are really good, fries are tasty too. If you want to bring kiddos, they would have a blast. They offer sweet, flavored fruit and regular ice tea. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is chilled out casual. Amy's ice cream is connected, so save room for the extra indulgence!

My dad took me to this place since I had never been & wow the burger was so great I'd say it was one of the best burgers I'd ever had! I only had the burger with fries so I can't comment for any of their other food but they were both great & I will most definitely be going back for more!

With friends who were willing to wait more than an hour for their food last night (Friday). Only one cashier & one other person running between clearing off but not cleaning tables & distributing the food once it was done. Such an inefficient system. My burger was tasty although it was not served in the sour dough bun listed on the menu. I suppose they ran out & substituted. The onion rings were very good. My friends loved their food. Afterward we went next door & had ice cream. Delicious ending. I would like to see how they get their act together a few months from now if I am in Austin.

Phil's is a cool place to grab a burger and a beer. The food was really fresh and tasty I got an egg on my burger and it definitely put it over the top. I will be back

Same as the other locations, except that it's roomier. Phil's is a great place to bring a family with small kids. We love the veggie burger there and I always get mine with swiss and mushroom. Still delicious and we love the new closer location up north.

I love this place. The burgers are wonderful and I love the sweet potato fries. As a mom of a toddler I appriciate the playscape and Amy's Ice cream next door.

Delish burger and sweet potato fries. They have my favorite Maine Root soda, Pink Drink! They also serve beer which is a plus. I had the special, fried avocado burger with fried egg. It was very good, the only thing I would change is get the avocado not fried. The runny yolk was amazing soaked into their delicious jalapeno cheese bun! Highly recommend!

The burgers here, and at any Phil's Ice House, are delicious, but this place is a filthy germ factory. Every time I've been to the 183 North location, I've been confronted with un-bussed tables, food on the floor, and greasy hand/footprints of toddlers who've been walking and crawling on the vinyl booth seats all day long. The last time I went in, it was so gross I had to do a bout face and leave before ordering. Coming from someone with two young kids, that's sayin' something.

Two of us at Phil's Icehouse on a Sunday around 11:45 AM. Phil's is clean and well lit. Music was upbeat and at a moderate volume and televisions were tuned to sports and iFly. The cashier greeted quickly and in a neutral manner. I ordered mixed fries and a soda and asked that my burger be cooked medium instead of medium well. My friend ordered the same. I do not recommend the Maine Root diet soda. It was flavorless and/or the mix had way too much carbonated water on this particular day. My friend enjoyed the Maine Root Root Beer. The burgers... oh, the burgers. They were not awful, but compared to Hopdoddy or even Moonie's Burgers (not the one at Anderson Mill, yuck... but the one up the road @ Park Street in Cedar Park)... or have you tried Liberty Burger in Dallas(?)... we just drew a blank with our Phil's Icehouse burgers. The meat on both burgers was very thin and had not much flavor at all. Neither burger was cooked medium, but with patties that thin, it's probably hard to cook them other than medium-well or more. My friend liked the flavor of the egg and bacon on his Jollyville burger (the egg was cooked well, just a bit runny), but otherwise the burger was ordinary, the meat patty was thin and flavorless, and the sourdough toast "bun" was so hot and soggy on the bottom, it was very hard to eat the burger. My Violet Crown burger was nothing out of the ordinary either. If I got a jalapeno cheese bun with my burger, I am not sure what the difference between this bun and a plain sourdough bun would be. I neither saw nor tasted jalapeno, and I was looking forward to a little "zing." Also, I tend to like a sharper, saltier bleu cheese, and my burger had a small mound of muddled-tasting cheese placed in the middle of the burger patty. My burger patty was also thin (way more bun than meat), pretty tasteless, and cooked through.... not medium. We each ordered the mixed traditional French Fries and Sweet Potato Fries. Neither order of our fries was particularly hot or crisp. My friend's fries were lightly salted, but I think someone completely missed the "salt step" on mine. Of course, you can add salt at the table, but I prefer my fries hot, crispy and somewhat salty from the get go. We both liked the Sweet Potato Fries better than the traditional fries. Partway through our meal, a very friendly woman came over, smiled and said "hello," and asked us if our meal was alright. Toward the end of our meal a young man came over and quickly checked on us as well. He offered to take our trays and as we were getting up to leave, he smiled and thanked us for coming in. We really appreciated these efforts from Phil's staff. I might try Phil's again because the staff was friendly, it was clean and pleasant, and perhaps we were just there on an "off day" for the food. We would both definitely try different burgers though, and I'll just order water. Their only choice of soda is Maine Root, so if Maine Root is not your thing, don't order a fountain soda. I'd like to give Phil's three stars, but for interesting burger places around Austin, two stars here means "Meh. I've experienced better." While we appreciated the service efforts at Phil's, the food was a let down.

I walked in Saturday night at 8:30. There were four people in front of me. They were experiencing issues with the register and the line started to get a little longer after me. The manager called in another person to work the second register. Once the issue she was fixing was clear, she walked off. Soon, both cashiers had problems with taking the next orders and had to page their manager multiple times. When she finally came back, she started to complain to both cashiers that the issue was because using both registers messes up their internet connection. Remember, the manager called on the second cashier to start taking orders, and now, she is complaining that because they both followed her orders, the internet was messing up. She repeated these complaints multiple times. I could see the frustration on both cashiers' faces. I decided to leave because I had enough. The cashiers were both very nice and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about them. I was looking forward to trying this place for the first time, but I don't think I'm ever going back which is a shame because the menu looked pretty good.

I wasn't expecting the burgers to be as good as they were when we came here for lunch one time, but OMG they were! I had ordered the Allendale burger, which was so moist and juicy, the beef tasted so fresh. The sweet potato fries that it came with was very delicious as well. I am craving their burgers right now as I type this!

Decent sandwiches. The fish-burger was good, however the real star hear is the playground for kids and Amy's Ice cream next door.

Updating: Great food, awesome sugar came soda. The line times can still be improved. Normal wait is 15 minutes which is probably a bit too long IMO. Place is ways clean. Management did reach out to me because of my original review about the wait times. That shows that management does care. Original: We left. I was hungry and got tired of waiting. Waited in a line that never moved. 20 people were in front of us. 20 minutes later were still 12 people waiting to place their order. Really wanted to try 78704 burger but they still have a few kinks to work out.

  • Karen P.

First of all, I need to commend the manager, Christian, for reaching out to us and asking us to give Phil's another chance. Knowing that it was a recent opening and they were still working out kinks, we were happy to oblige. I have to tell you, this was a completely different experience than the first time. The place was crowded and running like a well oiled machine. All three of us really enjoyed our meals. I had the mini burger sampler and both sweet potato and regular fries and it was YUMMY. Everything was hot and fresh. My husband had a double burger and fries, which he enjoyed very much and my little one devoured her corn dog before running off to play with friends we just happened to see there. Overall, a great experience and fun place to go on a nice day. We will definitely be back, which is so nice because it's so close to us. I am very happy that the manager responded to my original review. That, alone, speaks volumes about the establishment.

We went here as a group of seven, with four adults and three kids. The food was okay. We all got something different and no one had anything spectacular happening to their taste buds. The bad taste in our mouth came at the end of the evening as we were practically pushed out at 8:45 with the doors locked behind us. Closing 15 minutes early and rushing out a nice sized group of paying customers is not how to win return guests.

One of my favorite burger places. Closer than HopDoddys and less expensive, although not QUITE as good. But I've had the Jollywood and the Brentwood burgers several times each, an they are delicious. They only serve Maine Root sodas, FYI. I love their sweet potato fries too. Fairly good service, a tv playing clips from the iFly place next door, Amy's Ice Cream, and a little playground too that looked really well kept. I come here often and have always enjoyed it.

Family friendly environment with knowledgeable and helpful staff. Ate here with friends and we all enjoyed the thick, sweet buns. Burgers were all good, no complaints. Really enjoyed the draft beers. Restrooms were clean. We did have to clean off our choice of table even though there was plenty of staff. No biggie. Watching the ifly video on tv was super cool, but not sure young kids benefit from watching another tv with ultimate fighting UFC being broadcast.

I returned and this time food was good. Hot much better service good job. !!!!! Maybe it was just the startup issues . But it looks like they fixed the problems and food was much better than the first time .

So much better this time around! It takes a while to iron out the kinks in a new restaurant with a new crew..food was fast and hot and tasty, service was friendly and the line wasn't long at all. Happy faces all around.

The NW side is starting to get some actual restaurants! If I was rating simply on what's available in this part of town it would be a straight up 5! Is it as cheap as McDonald's? No. But there are some dang good burgers here. The Holy Fuego is a fav of mine, but I'm always exploring the menu and some of the seasonal specials...go ahead and take a chance, I've yet to be disappointed. The buns are epic! Killer buns can take a good burger to another level..believe me. The icing on the cake is the fountain stocked with Maine Root soda...Boom. Great playground for the kids and ice cream from Amy's right next door...tough to beat for a family night out.

    (4)
  • Armando B.

The combination of Phil's and Amy's on the same property makes this a great stop for families. The hamburgers are good but there are other options that are better. However, the family friendly environment is very hard to beat. It is just great!

    (3)
  • Manoj I.

Lots of kids around in the playground, great burgers... in fact too many choices... There is Amy's icecream in the same building, so you can grab a scoop of your favorite Amy's flavor ...

  • Garrett M.

Okay so this place is a hit or miss. Great staff, trying to do the best that they can, for what kind of experience that they know of. Phil's icehouse reminds me of McDonald but more expensive and a hit or miss. I say hit or miss because sometimes the food is good other time, the food needs to be tossed. I would agree that the hot dogs shouldn't be grey but that's what happens when they are sitting in lukewarm water and then toss on the flat top sometimes to warm them up. But most of the time out of the Luke warm water and into the hotdog bun. That being said don't get the hotdog, go for the corny dog or chicken fingers, but make sure the chicken is cooked all the way through there have been some cases were. Well you get the point. Staff decent, cooks ok for what they get paid for. Plus most of the have two or three other jobs so, they are just there for a paycheck nothing more.

  • Amy B.

It was AWFUL! I think my blood pressure is still dropping from eating their disgustingly overly-salty fries. The burger was just sloppy and gross. If you are in the market for crappy $8 burgers and then adding a side of salt (er, I mean fries) for an additional charge, it'll be the worst $12 lunch you've had in a while. Blech. Never going back.

We were glad when this opened alongside iFly near our home. We have ages 5, 14 & 16 yr old and like the food. My husband can snack while our 5 yr old plays. Playground gets super crowded though. The last couple of times the playground has kids the size of my older kids being crazy climbing on the outer top of the equipment. You come to realize their parents are dining inside. Not sure how helpful of a review.

Same great burgers just in a more convenient place for those of us living in NW Austin. I was so excited when my girlfriend told me Phil's had just opened another restaurant, we rushed right over. They have a lot more space for parking and sitting than the one on Burnet. Staff was extra cool and friendly.

    (4)
  • Mark M.

Bland. No seasoning. I don't see the appeal. It's not that hard to make an average burger and they couldn't manage that. I tried the corn dog and the breading was overcooked and the hotdog tasted like had freezer burn. I won't be back.

great burgers and very nice staff the inside is much nicer then the one on burnet road.

We were so excited when we found out that there was going to be a phils up north so the kiddos can come and play and we enjoy the meal. So we came twice already and the first time on a weekend it was not too bad being that it was newly opened. Friendly staff, clean tables, and easy set up for ordering and getting to a table. Just like other Phil's it's connected to an Amy's ice cream too. 2nd time we came it was crazy busy like all of the other locations, so it seems they have been discovered already. Pros Awesome playground area. Huge and has tables around. Great burgers, as always. Love the violet crown burger! Awesome sweet potato fries ( slightly more burnt the second visit) All natural drinks, of course! Cons Kids hotdog was grey colored. Had to go back and order something else. Kids burger were ridiculously dry, even though the adult burgers rocked. Frito pie was insanely dry too. Very bland. No parking. Hopefully they will expand to the grassy area. Also the parking spaces were tiny. As in, unless you own a smart car or a Mini Cooper, your family car will not fit. Again!?! Family place, yet teeny tiny spaces. No changing table in bathroom! Hello? Family restaurant and no where to change a diaper. Now some other cons that may or may not be their fault: Too many crazy people who came to enjoy playground but not the food or the ice cream next door. Horrible parking by many cars, but with the tiny spaces, you did have to improvise some in maneuvering your massive expeditions. Couldn't really tell who was working or a guest. And this bothers me the most. Kids that are unsupervised and beyond control and horrible and bullying. People using phils inside table while eating ice cream from next door. I prob will come on random occasions, but it won't be a regular thing, sorries!

I was dying to check Phil's out after hearing rave reviews from a friend. We went during a weeknight so the restaurant was rather empty. I ordered the Travis Heights burger. The sourdough buns were delicious and were slightly sweet. The sweet potato fries were yummy. My son who usually eats hot dog refused to eat his...well, the dog was a strange beige-gray color. I figured it couldn't be that bad so I took a bite and told him that he doesn't have to finish it. Anyway, I was about to give Phil's a thumbs up until I got the worst stomach ache on the way home. To make a long story short, we're not going back any time soon. What a bummer because the kids loved the playground.

Walked into Phil"s for the first time and was greeted by a young man named Ryan. He said hello ladies how can I help you today. We said, we have never been here before, what do you recommend, what is the favorite. He started off by saying well everything on our menu is great but i like the 78704 He also stated that they had veggie and turkey which my girlfriend loves veggie burgers. We agreed to try his recommendations after we held the line up for 5 minutes trying to decide what we wanted. What a very professional and courteous young man. Our order came out within just a few minutes and was fresh. He came to our table just to see how we where enjoying our food. This place is very clean and has hands down the best service and burgers around. It beats standing in the cold for 2 hrs at Hopdoddy any day .The burgers are the bomb . I can't wait to go back and try many things on the menu. Good bye Hopdoddy, Hello Phils. And thank you, Ryan for the wonderful service you provided. :)

Ate here last week and it was a great beginning to a busy cold day. The staff were so nice and helpful-the menu has a lot of options and you can get mini BURGERS!!! Everything was hot and delicious and they have Main Root on tap!!! Fed two kids, myself and my husband for right around $25.00 felt like it was money well spent. I got a Brentwood, has cheese and bacon and with the mixed fries and a Main Root root beer I was in Heaven!!! Will be back next time I'm in town with the family.

Never got my food. Wasn't busy and the staff was walking around aimlessly. After sitting basically in front of the register for half an hour and noticing that people after me were being served I asked about my order and they weren't sure what to do. I left. Not worth waiting. There are several good burger places minutes away. Too bad.

Met the wife and kids here after work and we had a very enjoyable meal. There are not a lot of places where you can take the kids and have everyone enjoy their meal. The playscape is great and the staff was very friendly and attentive. I really wish that we could get more NW Austin/Cedar Park Restaurants to put in more outside seating and kids playspace. With all of the focus on being "Family Friendly" You would think Cedar Park would have more to offer.

Buffalo and Blue Cheese Chicken Sandwich and Sweet Potato Fries lived up to the BEST but the burgers and fries were good but far from best in Austin. It took 30 min from order to table but was a lively fun environment. I will get the chicken here again!

  • Greg M.

A good place to take the kids if you want a good burger and an adult beverage. Kids can be noisy inside or play outside (though watch out on the spinning flower--many a kid has puked after this one). The beer selection is small but good (and local). Do need to point out, however, that the men's room was absolutely awful on Sunday afternoon. Really no excuse for letting it get that bad. And I mean it was really, really bad. If it's that bad next time, stars will disappear. A good laid-back vibe and an Amy's ice cream next door.

Casual burger and hot dog place, but nothing to write home about. Hubby had the mini burger basket, which came with 2 miniature (or slider) version of their regular burgers and a mix of sweet potato and regular fries. I had the corn dog along with the sweet potato and regular fries. Well, burgers were pretty good, but not great. Fries were limp and not crispy at all. The corn dog batter didn't have a lot of flavor, so it wasn't anything I'd order again, but nice to have tried. Otherwise, they're connected to an Amy's Ice Cream, which is a genius idea, considering that this probably brings in more business. A playground is right out front, which makes bringing kids a breeze. Parking was adequate and we went on a Saturday during prime lunch hour without any problems.

This place is a parent's dream: a play area with tables, excellent food, friendly service, and ice cream. My 3 YO loved the Frito Pie. He has celiac disease, so having several GF options is excellent. And the sweet potato fries rock! Of course, my DH prefers the regular fries, but what does he know. WARNING: if you have never been there, it's easy to miss. It shares a parking lot with iFly NOT Main Event and Google maps thinks it should be in the middle of 183, so it's of no help finding the entrance. Once you pass it, it's a pain to get back around since there aren't any close under/overpasses. You've been warned. Enjoy!

If I did have a Icehouse, it would be a lot different. When I was here this place was so damned smokey from the grill and it wreaked of old grease. Do something with the ventilation folks. The smoke was so thick you could see it just hanging in the air. Very unpleasant and made my eyes burn. I ordered a cheeseburger with all the veggies and mustard. I wasn't able to get a full slice of onion, just rings. "Give me extra" I said. They did. The burger came with a mix of regular fries and sweet potato fries. They both sucked. They were limp and cold. I'm not a fry person anyway, but, I do enjoy a nice hot and crispy one. These fell way short. As for the burger? I thought I was at moonies. Just like a couple other yelpers pointed out, the bun is overkill. More focus needs to be given to what's in between the buns. For me the bun is just the part that seals the deal. I don't want it to be overwhelming, and it is here. The patty itself was ok. And they use iceburg lettuce for that nice chilled crisp. The burger has potential but the bread kills it. Would I go back? Probably not.

Looking for a place with children entertainment? This is the place to be because of the playground set the have. It does get pretty busy since there aren't that many restaurants with play area around town. I like how there's food and dessert for adults and kids, so everyone is happy. The burgers are good, but I've had better. You get half sweet potato fries and regular fries with your burger meal but not so much.. It's like a taste sampler if you get the half and half fries. I mainly come here so my son can have some fun. Although he likes his nuggets and fries here so that is a plus! The staff here are friendly so that is a plus also!

Well..we went back on an invite from the Manager...Although this visit was better then the first...I feel people only come here because of the Back Yard feature of a play ground...Yes, this feature may get us to come back on the fact my granddaughter Loves it...I caved on the fact that most kids dont like grilled Dogs...But...There was really nothing that would make me come back for the burgers...Wife Again, went plain Jane...Meat, Cheese and Bacon and lettuce...I went again with the 3 pack of mini burgers...Biggest flaw?..My wife is simple..That is one easy burger too build...and it was..Her burger sat for almost 7 minutes (Yes she watched the window)...2 other orders left the window before mine was done, and when they called..At that time...she knew it was hers sitting on deck..It was Luke warm at best..Fries were ok...Burgers was better all around, but this adventure fell short...

It's a good burger but not great. It suffers from what I call "Moonies" syndrome. A condition where a burger maker confuses the importance of the bread with the beef. The bread is a critical supporting cast member of the burger assembly but it should never overshadow the beef which is, after all, the star of the show. Isn't it? There are many bun options which is great but all of them are so damn large in proportion to the patty which diminishes the correct patty to bun ratio that a true burger enthusiast demands. It's practically a large ground beef kolache! The mixed potato and sweet potato fries is nice touch that differentiates Phil's from the typical burger joint offerings. Beverages include Main Root beverages in lieu of conventional soft drinks. No thanks. Shakes and floats are ok. They also offer a small selection of local beers on draft and in the bottle/can. Phil's partnership with Amy's (all locations I've been seem to have Amy's as a suite-mate) makes for a great one stop shop for a meal and frozen dessert. The two locations I've visited also include an outdoor playscape which give busy parents an opportunity to taste and digest their meal while their kids get to act like kids as opposed to restless hostages of the restaurant. We frequently hold functions like post game celebrations and trophy distribution ceremonies with our daughters' soccer teams here as the large bench style tables are conducive to hosting such events. Be advised that parking can be a pain at this location. Phil's has a lot to offer to make up for the shortcomings of their main attraction. If they could just fix the overgrown buns situation they would really be onto something.

Oddly enough I have not broadcast my thoughts on this place yet! We've been a billion times as evidenced by the boatload of Phil's plastic cups that I have cluttering my cabinets. The Good: Kid friendly. If you don't have kids, ehhhh maybe don't go, you'll just get annoyed. I LOVE the mini burger basket. I get two totally different things and you're not stuffed to the gills and feeling gross. The buns are great, soft and sweet . . . am I still talking about hamburgers here? I love the Violet Crown and the 78704. I had the Balcones chicken sandwich once and it was deeeelicious! No weird chicken bits that have normally put me off of chicken sandwiches here. The fries have never been anything all that exciting so if they could improve that would be something to consider. Usually the burgers are cooked medium well ish - though there have been a couple of times that you get something that resembles a hockey puck and THAT is disappointing. All in all it's a great place to take the kiddos, because they have the fenced in play area and ice cream at Amy's attached. The Bad: It's loud, sometimes a little sticky and 1/5 times your burger will be overcooked and the fries will be lackluster, but let's get real - it's better than most places that you can take your kids to.

After eating seafood all week, I craved beef. We hadn't tried Phil's yet so why not. The décor is no frills. Long bench type seating and a counter to order the food. Huge windows to look out onto the Playground. The playground was packed with kids but the dining area was relatively empty. I ordered the 78750 and BF got the Allendale. We each order a different beer on tap. The girl asked our name so to call us when the burgers were ready. BF said Mickey Mouse and the girl giggled. Off to find a seat with a good view of the TV showing the iFly training. I must admit the iFly was totally amusing. When they took a break, I took a gander at the playground people. There was weekend Dad who was either on his cell phone or checking his emails instead of watching his kids. When their food arrive, Dad went to find his kids in the playground all the while still on his cell phone. Ten minutes searching and he found them. Yes, he stayed on the phone the entire time they were eating. Bad daddy, pay attention to your kids. Mom with two small girl children, in 30 minutes she took them to the bathroom 4 times. Yes, I counted. Then over the loud speaker you hear, Mickey Mouse, your order is ready. It was hysterical watching the kids look for Mickey Mouse. My 78750 was delicious. The Swiss cheese was melted perfectly, onion rings were crispy, and plenty of bacon. I will ask next time to only cook it to medium instead of well done. The fries, what can I say, Loved the sweet potato fries, well seasoned. The regular fries were okay. Since BF didn't say a word until his burger was done. I assume he enjoyed it. Headed to the restroom before leaving for home. Be forewarned, there is only one sink. Guess who was at the sink, Mom with 2 girl children. The 5 year old girl was washing (playing) her hands....for 5 minutes while the line behind her grew. Enjoyed the food and beers but next time I will get it to go.

They have definitely increased their consistency since opening, and we've been back several times (and will likely be back more so in the future). I would caution, though - stick with the fries. The onion rings have never been good. the last order we received was a wad of onion with a pile of breading on it. It may have been attached here and there, but not a single one looked like an onion ring.

I told my wife let's take the kids to Phil's and she said Phil what? I said feel deez nutz lol i couldn't resist. Kidding aside the place is a nice place to take the kids. There is a playground outside and Amy's ice cream too. I got the 78704 burger. It was good. The burger stayed together really well. My boy finished all of his corn dog. There is a TV screen that showed what was going on next door at I Fly.

I liked it here! Sweet potato fries were really good and my 78750 burger was great. I think it was a solid place, very clean, peeps were nice, and the playground (though perhaps shared with the Amy's Ice Cream next door) was really nice for the kiddos.

It was okay. Great family atmosphere with the playground but the food wasn't out of this world.

Why people rate Phils so low is beyond me! Everything is always perfect, fresh, delicious and good quality.

What is there not to like about this place? The food is great, the sweet potato fries is really good, amys ice cream and bakery is right next door, and the staff is amazing. I did appreciate Ryan being so nice and friendly. This is a great place to hang out with friends or to have a party. Will come back.

Best burgers in town!! The playground is nice and shaded, the staff is very friendly, and the place is always clean! Great addition to northwest Austin! 6 stars!!

When I want a good burger, I come here! Amazing burger! Another great plus is the convenience of Amy's Icecream right next door at either location. The reason I can't give 5 stars and I feel it's necessary to let you know the service at this location is horrible. Snotty girls with obviously something better to do where they've lost the will to smile. This is pretty much every visit. They hate their job! Another negative are all the screaming kids. I get its a great place for kids but it's out of control, apparently since the staff doesn't care, the parents don't either, or vise versa. If you want a delicious burger, check it out. I put up with the nightmare children and horrible service for it!

I'd been enjoying coming to this Phil's location since last summer but my family and I have decided we won't be going back anymore. I would say that the last half dozen times we've gone our order has come out wrong, or food was burned/improperly cooked. Also, whoever the male cashier has been in our last couple of visits has been extremely rude and his bad attitude really makes dining there an uncomfortable experience. Sorry to say we won't be going back!

Good place to visit. It's kid/family friendly with a great play area. The only negatives that I can think of were that it was noisy and our fries were undercooked. Other than that, it was a positive experience.

Food is excellent! Great idea to have a restaurant, ice cream shop, and huge playground in the back for kids. Their business is doing so well that the place is always PACKED-almost uncomfortably so. But that doesn't bother the kids! There aren't very many restaurants that are kid friendly in Austin (playground), this is a huge bonus since we live so close.

Here's the skinny about Phil's Icehouse: The sourdough burger buns are great. The burgers/fixings/prep/presentation need major work -- kitchen staff seems to rush it out. They loaded on the mayo (gross) burger was undercooked, almost medium rare when they said it would be medium well (gross). Giant slabs of lettuce - it was not consumable, had to remove it. The burger disintegrated before I could finish it into a giant pile of mushy stuff. This place is super popular with the families because of the playscape - it's insane. At 7pm here, there must be 200+ people with kids running around, it's loud. Love the Maine soft drinks, those are good. Fries/onion rings were ok but not great. Place just needs work, they rush it too much, turns out wrong.

I like Phils and like this location. Nice big open eating area. The burgers at Phil's are consistently good. They sometimes have some technical errors but the flavor and consistency is spot on. Only gripe I have is buns. Sometimes there are bun failures do to them not being sliced or grilled properly. Sometimes the buns are too big. Sometimes too small. But when all things come together this is one of the best burger places in town. Long Live Phils

I'm going to be completely honest- I go out of my way to steer clear of restaurants that cater to families. Kids usually have the run of a place like that, climbing over chairs, crying, racing around the tables, etc. I put the blame for this behavior squarely on parents, who somehow forget about basic manners when their kids are in their orbit. They not only let their children behave like animals, they are obnoxious themselves. I can't tell you how many times I have encountered a parent who was in their own world as they watched over their little one. Hey dad, how about having the decency to hold the door open for other people, as well as your kid? How about putting the smartphone down so you can tell your kid to quit bothering the poor lady that's trying to eat her meal? You will see all of these things and more at Phil's Icehouse. On any given weekday night, you will see at least two children running around tables, repeatedly going in and out of the side door that leads to the playground, hogging the bathrooms, etc. So why the four star review? Because the food really is that good. The cheeseburgers are as good as any you will find in north Austin, and the fries are actually good the next day. Unbelievable, right? But it's true, and it actually makes me forget about the fact that this is a place that caters to a clientele that I typically avoid. Now granted, I will get my food to go depending on how crowded it is, but there are definitely moments when the restaurant quiets down and you can enjoy a really great meal that is prepared by an incredibly friendly staff. Don't get me wrong- I know full well that I am injecting my bias into this review, and I understand that this atmosphere appeals to a VERY large segment of the population. North Austin is the suburbs, after all. So if you are looking for a family restaurant that has great amenities for your kids, along with great food, then this is definitely right up your alley. Just TRY to mind your kids (as well as your own manners) when you get here, ok? It will make a great restaurant even better.

This review pains me. 6 months ago it would have been 5 stars. Unfortunately the sanitation practices here have become so abysmal that the thought of ever returning nauseates me. This is sad because the burgers are really really damn good. We visited a couple of weeks ago and a very obviously sick employee was working the front counter. Between touching food baskets, handling money, and sticking her hand INTO cups as she handed them to customers, she was wiping her nose with her shirt, touching her face, rubbing her eyes. It was by far the most disgusting thing I've ever witnessed in any food setting EVER. My sister in law went so far as to speak to the "shift leader" or whatever that person called themselves, they didn't seem all that concerned, more annoyed we were complaining, and the sick employee continued to serve food to patrons. It was all I could do to not walk out and even though we made sure this person didn't touch OUR food..it was near impossible to enjoy it thinking about the germs being spread to others. Not to mention the restrooms...oh they were disgusting to say the least. I left feeling so gross. My husband returned a couple weeks later, with work friends that wanted to go. Again, cups being handled by putting cups they touch inside other cups..just NO! Please, get a handle on this Phil's!

I love this place. The Violet Crown is so delicious and I cannot get enough of their parmesan garlic fries!! The last time I went was close to closing so I didn't get as much seasoning on the fries but I'd been here before to know that it probably was just an end of the night thing. I still love their burgers and will be back again and again.

Went to this location to eat at Papalote, but is not open yet. Starving, so I "settled" for a burger. Dang! Glad I did! Phil's makes a freakin' de-licious burger! Besides that, there is an Amy's right in it. How cool is that? I don't eat cows, so I ordered the turkey burger. I got the Allandale which is the usual lettuce, tomato, mustard, onion, pickles. Patty was seasoned well and not overcooked. The sweet bun was the star. It was super soft and fresh but did not fall apart. Yum. The fries were to my liking. They aren't those super skinny ones like p Terry. Too hot to eat when they arrived. Good job. Service was fine. I came at an odd time, so there was no wait. I enjoyed my quiet lunch. I see they have beer specials and an awesome playground geared for parents. Count me out for that, but I will certainly be back for another awesome burger. Five stars.

The main reasons I gave this place five stars is because: A) they have cheap draft beer specials B) they have good beers on tap C) Their playscape is awesome D) I can relax and have a beer while my child is having fun too.

Hooray! After several false starts and delays, the north side Phil's is open for business. The food menu is exactly the same as the other Austin locations (woo-hoo, more Violet Crown sliders for me). The same wonderful playscape (minus the cows) loved by families and the ice cream are there, too. Imagine the best of the Burnet Road location moved up here, but with lots more seating & shade, less noisy traffic and fewer aggressive grackles. If you're new to the area or just don't know, Phil's is a restaurant spin-off concept from Austin's iconic Amy's Ice Creams (est. 1984). It was named for the late Phil Clay, a beloved friend and business partner who passed away suddenly in a motorcycle accident in 2003. The store's slogan, with permission from Robert Earl Keen, is "the road goes on forever ...the party never ends". The Phil's menu is mostly basic burgers with flavorful toppings and a sweet bun, each combination named for an Austin-area neighborhood. You can also get sweet potato fries, veggies burgers, chicken or fish sandwiches, onion rings, and corn dogs. If you can't decide what to order, a nice option is the 3 or 2 mini-burger basket in which you choose from the flavor combos - 78704, Violet Crown, and 78756 are my recurring faves. It's neat to see the flatscreens with a live feed of the indoor skydiving place next door to this Austinville 78750 location. iFly couldn't ask for a better advertisement. Everyone indoors at both Phil's and the adjacent Amy's couldn't help but to watch with fascination during our first visit during opening week. I love that the tree shaded play yard is behind the building, giving a nice buffer to the sounds & sights of busy Research Boulevard out front. Also great is the large windows between the indoor dining space and the backyard, giving parents a complete view of the playscape (essential when all of the outdoor tables are full). Even if you don't have kids, I dare you to watch just a few minutes of the quick yellow tub merry-go-round in action (followed by the inevitable dizzy, nauseous wailing of a small drunk child) and not break into a smile.

I used to visit the Lamar location when I lived in south Austin. I loved the food here. I visited this location today during my lunch and was thoroughly disappointed. I had my order taken and was told it would be 10 minutes. 10 minutes goes by with no one else in line and I see food put on the bar for the cashier to pick up and hand out. I had a feeling it was mine but gave them the benefit of the doubt. None of the employees looked busy as they laughed and goofed around. 10 more minutes pass and I have about had my limit and an employee notices my food sitting there and calls my name with no apology. So thank you for keeping me waiting, letting my food get cold, and making me late for my job.

Went back after my last visit. To be honest they have a great concept for families with very young kids. The food is very inconsistent from visit to visit. But I think the biggest problem is the staff of young Millennials, if you have kids it is great but you are without kids move on to another concept or another location.

Please don't come for the food. Phil's is a great place for families due to the playscape and sharing a building with Amy's Ice Cream, but the food leaves a lot to be desired. The first visit we came, the sweet potato fries had a weird bitter flavor on them similar to chemical bug repellant and my child's hot dog was just awful. The hot dog had the consistency of a convenience store hot dog rotisserie or hot dogs that have been floating in a hot water bath all day long. I also had a chicken sandwich that quickly fell apart from a high level of sogginess. The second time we came, the hot dog was given a second chance, but was exactly the same. In addition, I ordered a Frito pie that was so cold that the cheese didn't melt. Despite the serious undesirability of the food, the playscape is well maintained and a fun break for kids. Also, Amy's is great and helps you forget about the food next door. Have dinner elsewhere and then come for dessert and playing.

Recently we had an extremely busy week and ordered take out here twice in one week. Their food was great, but they missed extras we ordered, and paid for. The first time we just figured it happens sometimes. We ordered online and perhaps they just didn't notice the jalapeños and franks hot sauce on the order. But 2 days later when the exact thing happened again we called and let the manager know. Maybe there was an issue in translation with their computer or something, who knows. Anyway he was extremely nice and apologetic and promised there would be a free burger correctly made the next time we came in. And there was, both of them! The buns are a little sweet, meat is good sized and well proportioned to bun. Everything is really fresh and good. Their onion rings are better than Top Notch! Fries are also good, they're the thicker standard variety not usually particularly crispy but also not soggy. The prices are good, especially for the abundance of food you get. The kids meal fries are the regular sized fries, too. The playscape is pretty awesome, but I wish it were entirely enclosed for the younger kids. All in all a great place with good food and employees who own their mistakes and fix the problems.

They had me at corndogs and playscape. Great lunch with the kiddos. Expended some pent up energy while enjoying the cooler weather. Kids'corndogs are full sized along with the portion of fries. I opted for the two mini burgers; the violet crown and the 78704. Both were tasty and the perfect size for lunch. Great place for moms' groups and lunch with the family.

On a whim, I frequented Phil's for lunch recently. When in Austin, I feel a need to try most every place. I ordered a chicken sandwich on wheat, and the significant other ordered the "78704" burger. I cannot tell you how much I loved the bread. Ok, I can, but it's hard to put into words. I'll just say I liked the bread so much, that I was in a pure state of bread-happiness. The chicken was delicious, too. James, if having to give his burger a grade rating, stated it deserved far more than just an A+. Thanks, Phil's Icehouse, for such an awesome first time experience! We will certainly be back.

I do eat a good american cheeseburger from time to time and I thought I would stop here with my mom. She ordered the 78705 Burger and I ordered the Allandale. The burgers were tasty and the bread was fresh. The service was friendly and it came out fairly quick.

Burger was really good. I would suggest eating there if you don't want the lettuce to get soggy. Reason for the 4 star and not the 5? The fries. Not terrible, but they had no crisp to them. Kind of flimsy. Also, you can't beat $2 Dos Equis on tap.

Disclaimer: I only tasted their veggie burger. I put only healthy stuff on it so my experience may have been influenced by my poor judgement. It was ok after I added a lot of ketchup. Pros: * Good service * Lots of options * Sweet potato fries were good Cons: * More healthy options that don't taste too healthy. There's loads of options for standard burgers. * TVs. I should note that I'm fine with the neighbor's vid screen for the skydiving place. I think that was pretty remarkable and not overwhelming. I'm aware that asking for healthy stuff from a company owned by Amy's Ice cream is totally unfair, but that's what it'll take to get me to come back. Update: prompted by a message from the owner, I came back with pretty much the same experience. Lettuce was minimal and there was a single sheet of it. Fries were a little over cooked. Not bad, not great. Still 3 stars.

One of my favorite burger joints, and I'm a big fan of GOOD burgers. The buns are amazing, sweet potato fries are the bomb. I've been to the one downtown a few times. just visited this one last week. Everything was just as good. If you love a good burger, you gotta check them out.
