I've tried this place several times leaving downtown on a Friday night but didn't think it was fair to rate a place after a night of drinking, but maybe I should have because eating here sober was a mistake. I had what would be loosely described as a calzone soggy dough on bottom A thin transparent dough on top with very little filling. My companion had spaghetti and meatballs. Great portion size a plate full of noodles with a bland tomato sauce and three large balls of flavorless meat. For my money the side salad with the salad dressing packet was the way to go.

Pretty good. Don't care for the cheese pizza. Always comes out looking undercooked. So I order pepperoni and pick up. Huge difference. Big slices. Will deliver if you are close.

After a long day at SxSW, I needed food, and I had a veggie pizza slice! It was great, with plenty of veggie toppings and tasty bread. They also had good service. I would go back again!

I use to come here often after my downtown night adventures, but rude service chased me after away, after entering the adult world. I decided to give this place a try again. Since I work close to this place and noon lunch hour means every place has lines running out the door. Which wasn't good for this girl who was STARVING, Luckily this place, had no line and I mean how could I go wrong with pizza?! I love pizza, so I decided to give this place a try.... Wrong. I was greeted by a girl who stared at me with wide eyes like I was a monster, who didn't say anything until I smiled at her and greeted her.. okay Pizza was already cooked, so it just put in the oven like, most pizza places, then came the price... ten bucks for 2 slices... WHAT?!?!?! the girl informed in a "Are you stupid" voice that my meat pizza was a 5.50 slice again (my other choice cheese) to hungry to fight against it I accepted the overpriced pizza and took it to my desk. That's when it all went downhill, obviously the cheese is the government cheese, you know the plastic stuff that doesn't break apart or melt. it just sat there greasy in all its plastic glory. Pizza pretty much tasted like cardboard. and it was more bread then pizza, so much for that diet. Quite frankly I was disappointed.

I won't be returning here. I had the pizza, and it was cold, bland, super basic, and poor quality. You can get a lot better pizza for only like a dollar more. It's usually not-so-good of a sign if the pizzas have been sitting under a warmer. Also, the interior is really outdated and like all white. The location is great; too bad they're not taking advantage of it.

I've had better pizza at the food court in any mall. Nice staff, but I'm there to eat after all.

This stuff is not "NY Style Pizza," which is what they loudly advertise. It's hardly even pizza. It's bread with pizza-related toppings, molded into a round shape. I was reminded of Cici's Pizza while I was eating this stuff, and we all know that Cici's is barely even "food." Like, ok, yes, this is admittedly something I'm known for being persnickety about, but even my friends from other parts of the country were like, "no, you're right, this is terrible." The day I tried Cozzoli's, I had just started life as a "person who is downtown all day." Being used to the area at night, I had never noticed Cozzoli's before. I thought it was new, and asked the guy at the counter (possibly the owner?) how long since they had opened. He scoffed at me and said Cozzoli's had been around for longer than I've been alive. If that's the case, dude, y'all need to go back to NYC for a few slices, refresh your memory, and undo this grave injustice to pizza that you have created. I'd rather go to Sbarro than eat here again.

Pretty good. I ordered a slice of pizza. Nothing spectacular, but it hit the spot. Very clean restaurant and lots of sitting room. Great for a quick grab and go during lunch time.

Was so great to find a restaurant that delivers to our hotel!! Found cozzollis pizza on congress ave!! You know I mean it when I write in BIG LETTERS foodies - it's YUMMY! Got a veggie pizza and it was really good! Caesar salad was great too. After a great night out on Saturday it's pretty awesome to sit in a hotel room and eat in BED!!!

I base my review on the gyro. It was amazing and filled with delicious ingredients! For a decent price. $8 with chips. The pizza didn't look super appetizing but I didn't try it. The owners were very helpful and friendly. The place is definitely a casual little spot with a satisfying meal and wasn't too busy for lunch.

The sausage is great! Crumbled Italian sausage in generous amounts on pizza. No fresh garlic though.

I got the Monday special which was Chicken Parmesan, baked ziti, salad and drink for $10. Lotta food, but still not worth the money. The ziti had been made and baked hours ago, I think, because of the amount of liquid at the bottom of my dish. Plus the Chicken Parm was basically two awful chicken tenders that were mainly breading. The Garlic Bread? Pizza dough with some garlic butter wrapped to a croissant shape and stuck in the pizza oven. It wasn't even made of bread. Salad has been described on here before as iceberg and a cherry tomato with a dressing pack ...ugh.

This is a pizza lunch spot at downtown Austin. Their food is mediocre. I never had problem with anything. This place is ok for quick lunch or grab-to-go lunch. I have tried and liked their ziti pasta, chicken Parmesan & gyro. Their prices are a little higher for sandwiches as compared to other places around the area. Nothing too exciting, if you are around downtown and wondering where to eat for lunch then you can definitely try this place!

This place is about 1000 times better than Home Slice for sure. Not sure why they only have three stars and I'm not sure what all these people are leaving negative feedback I can assure you that I am in Austin foodie I can honestly say that this is the best pizza I've had in the city. The grandma sauce is phenomenal the calzones book awesome facts they have baked ziti is a huge plus and they also offer subs it's definitely going to be one of my favorite places so come on your yelpers have an open mind this place is an awesome pizzeria!

Big servings that filled even my collegiate appetite. Had meat lovers and veggie slices and both were pretty damn good. Sorry my palette cannot fully express flavors like Anthony Bourdain, but just know that it was definitely worth a stop if you're hungry for real pizza, and want it from a sanitary workplace. Everything was clean and you can see them cook the pizza. I am something of a germaphobe so when I see clean places I commend them on it. Perfect for something walkable downtown durning festivals & conferences #SXSW

When I order lunches for office meetings, I need to know that a restaurant is able to deliver on time. This is why I order well in advance and make sure to specify that this is for an office meeting. When I have to call twice to see where the delivery person is, I start to get upset. But when I get hung-up on for just trying to figure out where the hell my food is, I go to Yelp to write a bad review. As for the quality of the food: Mediocre at best. And since it's not listed on their website, they charge $3 for their delivery fee. (I'm not really holding that against them, but I figured that was just useful information for people to know.) Either way, I won't be ordering from Cozzoli's in the future.

Nice little mom and pop pizza joint. Not only pizza but sandwiches, gyros, etc. Reminds me of mall pizza but that isn't bad. I wouldn't go out of my way but if I'm in the area I'd eat here again.

    (3)
  • Chris D.

I got the basic slice and a drink combo, which is not a bad deal considering you get a monster slice with one topping and a medium drink for around 5 bucks. The pizza is pre-made and then reheated like all the other pizza places around town, but not a horrible slice if you need some pizza. Overall not the best around but I'd still show them some love.

  • Jeff C.

Poor quality food, my calzone was full of greasy goodness and the dough was not baked properly. My fountain drink tasted weird. And added bonuses, the owner called me a mother f------r several times and he said I should be ashamed of myself because he couldn't take my complaint that the dough on the calzone was not baked properly. He claimed that he got a "5 star rating yesterday", so therefore my complaint was nonsense. Another comment he made was that he is not a charity and doesn't give free food. That's why he wouldn't give me my refund (even though I ate half of my calzone).

Please, if youre looking for decor and atmosphere, don't come here. If you need someone to hold your hand and walk you through the 481 toppings you've never really heard of, this isn't your joint. however, if your I'm search of fast, no fuss, Giant slices of pizza dripping with cheese, grease, and a plethora of other toppings...you have found the kingdom of pizza, and its name is cozzolis. Seriously though, it's really good. And, for me anyways, it brings back nostalgia for the food court at the now defunct north cross mall....ah, the days of seeing ashtrays on all the tables. Check this place out, only if you're a hardcore, no frills pizza lovin', downtown goin' old school son of a gun. It's better for everyone that way.

The people gere are nice and the foods not bad, but they completely screwed up out order and did not take responsibility for shorting us 2 plates. Also, on a Friday night they had only 1 person working. Basically, don't come here if you're looking to get out quickly.

Gross gross gross! This place sucks. Food was unappetizing, low-quality and there were flies flying around the inside of the restaurant. Save yourself the disappointment and just order out folks!

I love Cozzoli's! It's great for a quick slice of pizza during lunch or for those with late night drunk munchies. The owner is extremely nice too. Everything is made fresh daily and the bottom of the crust is always crispy out of the oven. I usually fold my pizza in half New Yorker style which is perfect for this kind of pizza.

    (5)
  • Hue K.

Very friendly so just service, I would give 4 stars... but Pizza was disappointing.. The crust was hard and stringy... NJ/NY style pizza has very thin not-stringy crust... and there is something about sauce that has peppery and slightly bitter flavor... They have good deal and do deliver to hotels in downtown.. but.. I will rather have pappa-john's next time.. sorry..

Stromboli is heavan on earth. One stromboli is enough for two, though you may not want to share! The dough the pocket is made from is tasty, well stuffed with cheese and lots of other good meats and veggies. Lot's of flavor! The restaurant is clean, the decor is basic, the service was good, the atmosphere is refreshingly laid back, unstaged and unpretentious. If you are into the current rage of themed, staged restaurants this may not be the place for you. If you want good food at a decent price in the often overpriced heart of downtown Austin this is a good choice.

I ordered two slices of the specialty pizza, without olives and bell peppers, and what I received was just unacceptable. Instead of customizing my order, the kind workers of Cozzoli's decided to give me a slice of cheese and lay the remaining toppings on top of the pizza. Instead of running it through the oven with an extra layer of cheese to help the toppings stick, they gave it to me as is - resulting in all of the toppings falling completely off when I picked up the slice of pizza - obviously revealing the plain cheese slice to begin with. Upon calling the restaurant to explain what I had received, the man who answered knew exactly what order I had placed and did not see the issue with their presentation. He claimed the next time I came in that I would get a complimentary slice, but after this debacle, I will not be returning.

Great service, awesome food! We stopped in for a quick slice while walking in downtown Austin, on the way to Fun Fun Fun Fest 2011, and wound up staying almost an hour and were greatly pleased with the service. We even had a nice chat with a few employees and one of the managers/co-owners of the restaurant about a rumor that has been circulating that they mistreat and kicked out a homeless person when in truth they gave him a free meal and a drink. There is always two sides to a story and these people don't seem like they would shun anyone away. So next time your in downtown Austin, stop in and grab the best slice of pizza in Austin for 20 + years! Ciao!

Came here today for Sunday-after-church-lunch and I have to tell you, I wasn't too impressed at first. The place looked pretty empty when we got there, and it looked like any other pizza joint to me. My friends and I were just looking at the menu and comparing it to the ready-to-serve selections they had on display, and thought "Overpriced." Nevertheless, we procceded to order a 14" Cheese and Tomato with Mushrooms and Sausage. It had felt like we waited awhile before our pizza came out and i thought to myself, "2 stars, yelp. 2 stars." Anyway, we get our food, and i proceeded to put some cheese, pepper flakes, and oregano on top. I took my first bite, and immediately took back all the bad stuff i was thinking. Every time i put the slice into my mouth, there was just SO MUCH FLAVOR. It was ridiculous. Slices were pretty big. The 14" fed myself and two others and though we only got two toppings, it was amazing. Gah. I'll go back for sure. They've got a big flatscreen mounted on the wall so we were also able to enjoy the Cowboys game. :) Good Pizza and Good sports = Great Sunday afternoon.

Had a slice of the all meat pizza. That slice was huge, thick, took forever to cook, and still had ice chunks in the middle. Even hungover this place was just OK.

As far as pizza joints go, this one isn't a bad place to indulge if you happen to be on Congress. The interior is basic, reminiscent of an old diner (maybe Mel's a la "Alice?"), and the service is friendly, if unspectacular. B. and I each ordered a slice loaded with veggies, and while the crust was satisfyingly crunchy, the pizza itself was just OK. Not bad, but not great, either. Just enough to fill the tummy while waiting for our movie to start across the street at the Paramount. The slices were quite hefty, and I didn't find the prices to be egregious -- this is prime real estate they're sitting on, after all -- but don't come here expecting your world to be rocked. The place has been around at least a quarter-century, so it must have something going for it besides its location. Otherwise, it's just a basic pizza joint in a very, very convenient spot in one of the hottest cities in the country.

I was walking around downtown recently and I felt like stopping in for a quick bite to eat. Um, how do I say this? It was edible... and the "quick" bite to eat... well, that didn't happen. If the staff was any slower, they would be working in reverse. If you're in the area and have a void that needs to be filled, stop in and eat something but don't expect much. Oh, just so you know, I got a gyro. I refuse to eat pizza anywhere south of New Jersey.

  • MARIA S.

The pizza here is decent enough, but I just have a hard time getting past the prices. I realize it's downtown, but i still don't think a slice of pepperoni should ever cost $3.75. And if it did it better be one outstanding delicious slice...and over here, it just isn't. I've kept it at two stars because the pizza is decent enough, the service is good, and if you work in downtown by the Capitol, the location is convenient. Aside from that... Two thumbs down from Maria.

Went there in a hurry for a sub sandwich. I asked for no mayo or onion.....but it came with a ton of both. I told the manager I wanted a refund, but he said nobody knew how to process a credit on the credit card machine. He offered any other entree as a substitute, which is fine. Told him just prepare the sub as ordered......... in the end result, dry bread, institutional cold cuts and overall flavorless. Can't recommend poor food and service. That's what I got here.

  • Tom H.

I sometimes get their lasagna because it's pretty good, but their prices are high and everything else is really boring. This is the kind of place that makes you think "Damn, I could have my own restaurant and probably do great!" Whatever you do, don't get the gyro here. Go 1 block down to Athenian Grill. It's 3x as big and much better.

Congratulations to Cozzoli's for finally getting your ass in gear. Here's what I found on my slice of hamburger pizza today: -NO fennel seeds! -NO mold! -NO ground beef that tastes like dirt! Sounds like an advertisement, doesn't it? Would you eat there if you heard a commercial like that^? I bet you would out of curiosity. It's okay; I would, too. So I'm a happy customer once again. The doddering old man who, I guess, manages the place was unusually on top of his game, and the gal who rang me up was very friendly. Sorry to sour this review, Cozzoli's, but you could still stand to improve upon two things: (1) Change the channel on the TV. Watching Headline News is nothing short of subjecting your customers to the old Chinese Water Torture. Seriously, if you want your customers to enjoy the pizza, put on something more interesting. Even daytime soaps on ABC would be better. (2) Get a diet soda in your fountain other than Diet Croak.

  • Alex A.

Too expensive for the quality that you get. A cheese slice is $3.07 and it's about a dollar more per topping after tax, so your supreme slice is gonna cost a lot but might not fill you up. That being said, it's not bad. It's passable.

  • Ben J.

This place was very average. It gets the job done. If you have absolutely no desire to do something special and your priority is to put food in your stomach, Cozzoli's will do the job. I didn't have to wait. I got my food (probably a reheated pizza slice) in about 7 minutes after ordering. There was a TV playing a popular news channel. There were plenty of places that I could have sat. The service was friendly for the few seconds of interaction. They took credit card. They had a soda fountain behind the counter. They had plenty of napkins. I had one slice of generic cheese pizza to pass the time and satisfy my hunger.

Not every review needs excessive length, so I will just say this: The only time I would voluntarily eat at Cozzoli's is if I was craving Sbarro's and didn't want to deal with mall crowds.

Way worse than Sabarros and some one mentioned. Went in there at 8pm one person was mopping the floor and someone was in the back stood there for a couple minutes staring at pizza and decided. I really didn't want it. Place seemed pretty dirty. I'm sure I'll be lazy and slip up and stop back by because it is the closest thing to my apartment. But 2 stars typically means I would only eat here if someone eles is paying.

Pretty standard downtown fare. A tad on the pricey side, but it's a good pie! Wish toppings were a little cheaper, but the 14inch fed the three of us perfectly, so plan accordingly. They had a good spread of sausage and mushrooms on top. I may be back for pizza by the slice sometime, but The Onion still has my heart, in that regard..

My trips to Austin are generally for business. I do try to eat as much BBQ as I can stomach while here. While waiting for my workmates to arrive I decided on a slice of pizza before the BBQ feast begins. Cozzoli's is located across the street from the Intercontinental Hotel. It reminds me of a college town pizza parlor. Pie's are finished and warmed when ordered. Overall service was quick and my slices were pretty good.

Been here a few times. I have to say the first time I went I wasn't impressed. But every visit after that has been very satisfying. I usually get a stuffed slice with the marinara on the side. If there's anything wrong with the slice, it's that sometimes there's TOO MUCH cheese and not enough crust (is that even possible?). Anyways, the slice is alright but the sauce makes it work. I eat the thing snooty style with a fork and knife and dip each chunk into the cup of marinara. The sauce is what really does it for me. Once, I ordered regular slices of pizza with some extra toppings. They did not skimp on those extra toppings; he really piled them on. I had two slices and I could not finish them (where typically I'd finish 3/4 of a medium size from any chain pizza place). People there have always been friendly. Occasionally if they're not too busy, I've had someone bring my slice out to me after being warmed (rather than busing it myself from the counter).

I love Cozzoli's! It's just one block away from where I used to work, so my coworkers and I went there frequently. The same three people always seem to be there working, which is nice, because they have started to recognize me and know my order! The crust is very unusual and a little crunchy after it bakes in the oven. The slices are huge (I can only ever eat one) and are priced about $3-5. They also have some coupons on the website. Some people claimed it's not like NY pizza, but it's about as close as you're going to get without actually going to NY!

Last week, a friend and I were strolling down Congress around mid-afternoon, and we were fortunate enough to come across Cozzoli's Pizza. I'd been there once before, but it looked different this time.. I think the massive construction-site-makeshift-sidewalk must have been blocking it before if I remember... Anyway, I remembered the slice I had before being DELICIOUS, but this time, I was extra hungry and went for the pepperoni rolls. I took one bite and knew I'd made a great decision!! The cheese was thick but soft, and it seemed so fresh. The sauce had a bit of sweetness to it, but it wasn't overwhelming like other sauces, (usually the ones with excessive oregano). It was just great. To top it off, the bread was baked to perfection, golden and just firm enough to keep all the deliciousness within safe and sound. Am I getting carried away? If so, these pepperoni rolls definitely deserve it! It would seem the place gets more business with the pizza slices than with the other items-- I'm not sure-- so I'll make sure to point out that the slice I did have a while ago was also wonderful. The cheese was equally fresh, and the sauce was great, too. I prefer more sauce on my pizzas, but it was fine. With the crust being on the thinner side here, it wouldn't have been able to handle more sauce. Just a different style from my usual, but still, delicious! The staff was yet again friendly, and I appreciated the time they took to make sure my lunch was worth my time and money. I'd say I waited about...15 minutes? Some might think that's a while, but come on, if you want fast, formerly frozen food that's either fried or full of funny-sounding ingredients... Get in your car and hit the nearest drive-thru window. Cozzoli's Pizza is most definitely not fast food, and I'll be say I like them all the more for it. Quality cuisine, friendly faces, perfect prices... I'm certainly going back!

Last evening, we had our worst dining experience that we've had for a long time at Cozzoli's. My wife and I, our daughter and son-in-law, and two granddaughters (ages 4 and 10) had gone to the Paramount Theater in the late afternoon and we got out a little before 6 PM. We were hungry and looked across the street and saw the sign for Cozzoli's pizza on Congress Avenue. We went in and ordered two large pizzas and drinks. I asked how long the order would take and I was told 20 to 25 minutes. At the time we went in, there were about 8 to 10 other people in the restaurant. It was not busy. After waiting almost a half-hour, I went over and asked about the status of our pizza. I was told it would be another 5 to 7 minutes. I went back and we waited. After about another 10 minutes, my son in law went over to inquire about the status of our order. He was told it would be another 7 to 10 minutes Now, keep in mind, we were all hungry, particularly our granddaughters who are complaining about the wait. I went over to the counter and complained to one of the employees about the slow service. He responded that they had really been busy and they were backed up. From what I had been able to see, there was not much business taking place and they should have been able to handle it without much difficulty. Finally, at about seven o'clock, I went over again inquired about the status of the order. At that time, an older gentleman, who was identified as the owner, came over and started yelling at me, telling me he was going to throw us out for complaining about the service. I told him that we've been waiting for an hour and I told him if he threw us out, I'd call the police since we'd already paid for the pizza we hadn't received. One of the employees behind the counter then piped up and said it had not been an hour but rather about a half hour. I pulled out my credit card receipt which had a time on it of 6:01 PM. Again, the owner started yelling at me. If I hadn't already paid, and given a 15% tip, I would have been glad to walk out and go somewhere else. We finally received one Pizza shortly after that, but it was one for the adults and not the grandchildren. They had to wait another five or 10 minutes for theirs. After all that, the pizza was okay but it did not live up to the billing outdoors which said that have been "voted the best pizza in Austin" since sometime in the 1980s. If that is s true, the only one that ever had a vote was the owner of the restaurant. Unless you're desperate and cannot find another place to eat, stay away from this place.

You call this New York style pizza? Its tastes more like slightly better frozen pizza from HEB but at three times the cost. The crust was quite uneventful and the cheese tasted like the kind I got on my pizza in my middle school cafeteria. Variety was as generic as going to chinatown and trying to pick a unique non japanese car. I think its time Home Slice or East Side Pies invaded downtown like the Mongols and moved all the inferior pizza joints outta town!

'ow aboutta nice Itallian *ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh*. It's cozzoli's pizza and italian food. (end italian voice). And gyros. And it's run by a very nice greek guy. And completely void of any ambiance or personality whatsoever. Yep. Cozzoli's. *shrug* So it's directly downstairs from my office and I suppose I'm glad it's so easy to grab a bite in a dash. It's the kind of place you eat out of necessity (I'm in a rush - It's right downstairs - I haven't eaten all day and need to grab something - etc etc) It serves its purpose well & I can't knock it for that. It's just never quite been a very appealing choice.

Cozzoli's Pizza is not good. If you want lunch downtown go to The Onion which is now on Brazos between 4th and 5th, or Home Slice Pizza in SoCo which is even better. Cozzoli's Pizza has low grade cheese, spread over a on sauce akin to ketchup, then baked in a oven seemingly much too hot (charred crust which by no stretch of the imagination is similar to NY style). One lunch special includes a salad. Don't get this. I think starving is healthier than their salad, which is topped with the same low quality mozzarella from before and about as fresh as some farmers market reject. I have also had their lasagna (what are you going to do, I work downtown and eat lunch out a lot). It was inedible. I literally threw out half the plate of crusty foul tasting abomination unto my Italian heritage, despite being incredibly hungry. There are many other places around down town with better AND cheaper lunches. I no longer go here, and recommend against it.

The whole meat pizza is not that good. I think thick pizza is just not my thing. The service is fine. They helped me to have a hot water and didn't charge anything extra. The environment is fair. However, I will not go back to try another pizza there.

On pizza: I've only eaten one slice of cheese pizza here and it was great On a number of occasions I have gotten the Calzone with marinara sauce and it is really quite extraordinary - the texture, blend of flavors!!!!! Yum! -I don't really care that the atmosphere is like DQ if the food is this exceptional! -I don't care if all the hip people go to the place that's hip where the food is mediocre, it means I don't have to wait!!! I know this is a chain and I'm only supposed to like local restaurants to be hip but sometimes I don't do what they tell me! Nobody is paying me - I tell it like it is!!!

I tried this pizza searching for a good slice in Austin. I wouldn't call Cozzoli's bad, I just can't call them very good either. This is another pizza joint in Austin that claims to be New York pizza, but fails in their attempt. The pizza itself has an interesting taste. In all my lifetime I have never tasted cheese like the cheese that is on their slices. I don't know if that is a good thing or a bad thing, but it was definitely different. Overall there was nothing that made this place stand out. I can't say that I wouldn't go here again, I am just saying that I am in no hurry to do so.

The best you can say for the pizza is that it is workmanlike. Cozzoli's is the Ford Escort of pizza. It'll get you where you need to go, but not in any sort of style. The pepperoni rolls are actually pretty good and the Gyros are not bad. The dining room is comfortable, with nice booths and old pictures of historic downtown Austin. It's pricier than it should be, but still reasonable for downtown lunchtime.

Decent enough. I really only came here as a last resort because I could find the other restaurant I was looking for. Pizza tastes good. Nothing great, and it actually has a little different taste than most places. The atmosphere is completely casual. Plenty of seating and a big tv with cnn on it. I sat around for like half an hour without feeling like I was taking a booth away from someone. If you are desperate for pizza go there (I don't know another pizza joint on congress). If you want to get out of the heat for a few minutes go there. But don't expect the best, just something decent.

Passable pizza, but unless you're crunched for time on your lunch break or trying to beat the curtain at the Paramount, do yourself a favor and walk down to the Onion for a slice. Perhaps not surprisingly, their full pies are much better than their pizza by the slice, which is why I gave it the extra star. Otherwise it's chain pizza on the level of Sbarro's ---edible and sometimes even enjoyable, but not worth traveling for.

Well, the oven looks cool. They put your slice into an oven the size of a house boat and shove your slice in before your very eyes. What comes out is your typical Austin, TX pizza. One that would have been the best ever if it only had a good amount of better sauce, a lot more cheese, a much better crust and higher quality toppings. Other than that, every pizza in the town rocks. Would you like a salad? Picture lettuce like the kind you get with your Big Mac, with a couple of tomatoes thrown on top. Yum. I give it three stars because they serve the only Stromboli I know of downtown, and it is in fact passable. Just like my grades in High School.

I haven't eaten at Cozzoli's 3 or 4 times in the mall. The are much better than Sbaro's. The pizza is made fresh daily. The crust is somewhat light and fluffy. They do give you alot of cheese. The sauce has a good flavor, doesn't grab me but is tasty.

This is a good, cafeteria style lunch spot. They mostly have various pre-made Italian dishes that they warm up after you order. They also make a big gyros that is tasty; unfortunately, since they don't have fries, they serve their gyros with potato chips?

I ate here because it was within walking distance of work, and they had eggplant parm subs. It is a chain, but their subs are not bad. It gets crowded at lunch, so plan accordingly. Their salads are bland and iceberg lettucy, but the hot food is decent. They have daily specials, but if you order something else, they make it fresh for you (note: this takes a bit more time). The interior looks nothing like any pizza place I've ever eaten in (purple floral wallpaper? okay...) but they do take out, so you don't have to eat there.

We were searching for a delicious but not too expensive lunch and found Cozzoli's Pizza. OMG it's delicious, the meat lovers and pepperoni was very good and their prices were reasonable for downtown (under 20 bucks for two people to eat with beverage). The staff was friendly and knowledgeable but we were shocked and disappointed to hear Cozzoli's was closing it's doors after just our first experience. If you can make it there before the 12th and enjoy a slice you should. After reading the sign that announced closing, we were happy to see that the American dream was still alive and well and helped provide for an entire family and generations to come.

Did not feel that two slices of pizza, two drinks and a salad was worth almost $20 for lunch today. We were walking around and taken in by the "Austin's best pizza!" signage. Only lived here for three months, and I can say that I've had way better! The pepperoni was barely melted on our slices, and even a healthy helping of red pepper flakes didn't do much to jazz up the mediocre pizza. There just wasn't anything amazing about it. Low on sauce, slightly too greasy, and small for the price point. Not to mention, my boyfriend attempted to order a calzone. When he asked all of what was included in it, mushrooms were mentioned. He asked if they could be omitted, to which one of the employees said "It's already made." So you're a pizzeria that can't freshly prepare menu items to order? That probably should have been our tip to walk out. We can all do better than previously frozen pizza. For being a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't exactly packed in there either. Now that we've experienced this place, we'll continue walking past in hopes to find somewhere better on future trips downtown.

I walk here from the office a couple of times a week. They know what I want and always provide the best service. I love supporting local business and they are truly a great place to decompress during the day. Try the pepperoni roll, it's a must

We were so glad this was open on a Sunday! Last week of Business, owner is retiring, but clean, tasty, American pizza/sub shop

This place is underrated. It does not look like much from the outside but the pizza is delicious! I have been there on several occasions and enjoyed their pizza every time. I usually get the pepperoni or sausage. I love how they heat your slice in the oven and it is piping hot when you get it. Also if they don't have one that you want they will make a new one with the toppings you want. Last time I did not see the elderly gentleman. He is really nice. I hope I see him next time.

This place is so awesome. It's located right on Congress Ave. in the middle of downtown. The owner was here when I went a while back and he's such a nice guy. The other workers are usually super nice as well. I've never ordered anything other than the pepperoni pizza from here but hands-down one of my favorite pizza places in Austin. The pizza are usually huge and are compared to NY style pizza. I was able to share the pizza btw 3-4 friends and we all got full. The restaurant isn't fancy and usually not crowded so the food doesn't take long but always comes out hot and fresh. I would definitely recommend this place.

I work close to Cozzoli's and stop by for lunch about twice a month. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is great. I'm a creature of habit and always order a pepperoni roll with a Coke. The total is $7.45 with tax, one of the cheapest places you can eat downtown. On Wednesday they have $2 cheese pizza as a special and it's really good as well. Love this place! 1) Friendly staff 2) Great food 3) Great price

If you've never been outside Austin, you might think this is what a NY pizza place is like. If you've been to NY you will be sorely disappointed here. The pizza selection is small and looks unappetizing. The slices are delivery pizza sized, not NY pizzeria sized. The meats and veggies in the Stromboli taste like leftovers. The only good thing was a lack of a line to order. In fact the place was completely empty.

Pizza tastes like cardboard and the employees are extremely disrespectful. Please don't waste your money here.

In Austin for SXSW and this place was convenient to 6th street. I deeply regret eating here. I had the Baked Ziti and Meatballs. It tasted like it had been microwaved after sitting out for a prolonged period. The restaurants internals also were outdated. From the tables to the chairs, it could use a facelift. Overall, it was convenient but I wish I would've walked a little further for something better.

I got the calzone and it was really good. For $8 I got that and a drink. There was plenty of toppings and very filling. The staff was also very nice and quick at bringing my order to my table.

I really loved the pizza. I was very pleasantly impressed with it. If you are looking for pizza I would definitely check this place out...of course assuming you don't mind the parking issues. I would however stay away from the pasta. I was really craving baked ziti so I got an order of it alongside the pizza. The flavors were alright (I've had better) but the pasta was really over cooked and far too soft. I assume they must make a batch or two and then leave it sitting on a steam table. In summary, Pizza = good, rest of the food = think twice before ordering

Food was cold, dry and tasted like it was cooked 2 hours ago and reheated. The owner kindly refunded the cost of the meal but then when my friend tried the same the owner flipped out and accused us of trying to get free food from him. He swore at us telling us to leave and never come back again. We won't.

Best pizza from the nicest guys around. Hands down most delicious pizza in Austin. No frills, Good food, and not to mention the freshest ingredients.

I ordered the calzone (for those who don't know any better, it's pronounced calZONEay). It had already been made and was under the warmer. Never a good sign... The man at the counter put it in the oven and I went to the table to wait. Five minutes later, they brought it out. Some of the dough was undercooked, and it was obvious the cheeses used were American processed cheeses. Needless to say I couldn't finish this. As an Italian, it was an offense. As offensive as those who believe that Parmesan is equal to Parmigiano.

OK OK experience. Not highly priced. However, I did not like the half baked pizza ... Especially the half cooked cheese on it.

not much to say this place has a bathroom and you can pee here after bar hopping on 6th st. either they were really busy or they cant bake a pizza or they like to eat raw dough. the pizzas are huge and look good. but theyre uncooked. so thats just no bueno.

I received gift card from here from my Friends of Alec program when I used to work there. I finally decided to use it after finding the gift card tucked away in between messes. Anyway, the service is great! Mr. Mousa (spelling?) was extremely nice and helpful since we've never been. We ended up ordering the Hawaiian and the "All the way" pizzas (both larges) to feed 4 people. The cheese and sauce was savory. I didn't particularly like the "all the way" pizza because I am not a big fan of olives/supremes (obviously I didn't order this...my friend did). Long story short, I like this place and will be coming back soon. P.S. Love their marinara! P.S.S. Thanks for supporting our Friends of Alec program at UT!!!!! Hook 'em!

Very nice staff...well not the owner, well if he is the owner. I work close to this place and since I am usually in a hurry, its convenient. I eat here often and I like the pepperoni slice; but I am not a New Yorker so I do not know if it is anything like a real New York slice. Reading other reviews, I guess it isn't. I have had the spaghetti and meatballs many times. Lotsa food. And not bad. Except the time when the meatballs tasted a bit old.... I had a free slice card, that states "Buy 7 slices and get the 8th slice FREE" ...but bought 2 slices and a spaghetti one day and only got 1 stamp. I asked the old man about it, and he said it meant that you only get 1 stamp per TRIP. Very very disappointing...especially for a customer that buys at least twice a week. Hence the one star, no appreciation for his clients.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
