Great American Traditional Cafe. Servers were nice, local atmosphere. Hamburgers were cooked to order. Added bacon to a cheeseburger with fries and was not disappointed. Fry serving was very big and sides are ordered separate, I'd suggest sharing an order. Did not get dessert but seen plenty of locals coming in to get some to go so it must have been good. Perfect spot away from the crowded side of the Smokies and worth coming back to.

Homemade burgers, diner type food. Fried okra or potato salad served with your burgers for something a little different. Best homemade peanut butter fudge I've ever had. Kids had chicken tenders. Looked hand battered and they raved about them. Little place, nothing special, but hit the stop for us.

Quaint eatery with very good fried trout and homemade desserts. Kids loved the fried chicken fingers which were very generous portion sizes for the price. Club sandwich was well done. Homemade soups were very good.

Nice little cafe. Stopped here for dinner after going to Cades Cove. The cheeseburger was fresh and yummy. The hubs had the grouper and he said it was delicious. Very friendly people!

Great place to eat! Great service! There's good reason this place is well liked! Might have to run around the building a few times to make room for Peach Cobbler!

Jiminy Christmas, this place is amazing! We were visiting Tuckaleechee caverns and I asked the people who worked there for a recommendation for lunch. They recommended Black Bear Café and I am glad they did. We got there right at noon and got one of the last of the tables. We were greeted by a cheerful and attentive server. We gorged ourselves, even springing for several desserts because it was so awesome. Everything was so good, cheeseburger, Reuben, flounder, chicken strips, fries, potato soup, fried okra (be warned the portion size can easily feed 6 people), cookies, pecan pie. There was hardly a morsel of food that was not accompanied by a moan, even from my picky kids. My 10 year old said "Man, these people know how to cook!" If I didn't live 11 hours away I would eat there everyday until I couldn't walk. If you like homemade cooking, this is the spot for you.

The food is so good. The grouper sandwich is my favorite. But nqny say the Ruben is the best. You must try the fried okra. Yum!

Delicious fresh grouper sandwich on homemade bread...yum!! Homemade baked potato soup and half a turkey sandwich, again homemade selious bread. Me and a best friend went to grab lunch on a beautiful day, they have indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly staff and quick service, a must stop place.

Nice little mom & pop. Stopped there because of good yelp reviews. Not disappointed. Wife had the special fried grouper. I had a BLT. Both were very good and a good price. Also have home made deserts. If your hungry give it a try.

A local favorite, we came here on the recommendation of the cashier in a gift shop near by. Traveling from the Northeast, we had been loving the southern food so far in Tennessee. The menu here is fairly limited but has all the staples on it that are not too far off from options at home. I got a bowl of their chili, which was full of meat and beans. Yum. I also got the turkey club, which is a little different because it comes with deli turkey and ham. My friends got the cheeseburger, reuben, and fried okra. We all tried some fried okra (not so popular up north) and it was a great substitute to french fries! The portions are generous and the service is on par with the southern hospitality we'd been experiencing. There was an extensive dessert menu that looked delicious, but we could barely finish our sandwiches. For shame.

This place is really good and always crowded. I recommend the Cobb salad, it's my favorite thing on the menu.

Best food I've had in 5 days in TN!! Freshly made, simple menu, friendly staff, amazing homemade pies... now I'm in my happy place!

We had a Reuben sandwich, BLT and a special of the day which was popcorn shrimps. Everything was delicious. The breading wasn't too thick on the shrimps and not oily at at all. The cocktail sauce has a hint of radish in it which compliments the shrimps very well. The Reuben was also very good but I wish the sauce was already in the sandwich instead of being served on the side. Overall we had a great experience at the restaurant.

This place was recommended by one of the girls at the River Rat tubing place. We went there for lunch around 1 pm. The place was completely full. We sat outside and read the menu waiting for a table. I had the Reuben which was good. My wife had the ribeye sandwich which was better, very good. The grandsons both got the chicken baskets which provided enough food that they both boxed what was left and had it for dinner. Good food, good service. a bit pricey. Fries don't come with the sandwiches. our bill for 4 for lunch was close to $50. place is a little small, but I think we'll be back.

Good food and service. The emphasis is obviously on the baking, with almost as many dessert choices as entrees. Trout was a whole butterflied fish (head 'n' all), lightly cornmeal dusted. Grouper was breaded, but not too much, and both fishes were well prepared, moist and flavorful. The chili was really good, with good chunks of meat and beans and a nice flavor. We had to have dessert, and while we're certainly full, it was worth the stuffed-ness. This is their specialty, and they do it well: glazed lemon cake was crazy-moist with the perfect tart-sweet balance. Chocolate "wet cake" was moist and enhanced with cinnamon for a special treat. Given the choice, it might be better for lunch than dinner, because the dining room isn't very cozy, and it's *very* informal (as in, plastic forks with dessert). But it's definitely a very good choice and our server was great.

As in all other reviews food very good, excellent service , and priced to please. I had special of day, chopped steak mashed taters and fried okra. She had a cheese burger and mountain of crispy fries. Dessert is their specialty and they didn't disappoint. Lemon cake sweet and tart, apple walnut caramel pie great dough made with shortening or lard light and flakey. Overall very satisfied will def be back

Ate here for lunch. Not crowded as it was a late lunch. Attentive service, great ( big) burgers and tasty chicken nuggets that looked homemade. Also tried some homemade desserts. Home cooking that was worth the stop.

We enjoyed a delicious family dinner. Club salad, cheeseburger, Ruben, shrimp basket with fried okra. Everyone loved their food. Home baked desserts - we tried the jumbo choc chip cookie. Great place to stop after touring the awesome tuckaleeche cave nearby.

We went to Cade's cove and then stopped in here for a quick bite to eat before we went to the Tuckaleechee Caverns. It was so amazing. One of my friends got the cheddar broccoli soup and the grilled chicken. She was so satisfied with the soup that she wanted another bowl. That's her favorite and it was the best that she has ever had. Her boyfriend had chili and grouper with fries. The grouper was better than any fish that any one of us has eaten. I had the blackened chicken and the fried okra. It was so amazing and the okra was fresh hott! My boyfriend had the club sandwich and fries and he was completely stuffed. It was sooo good! The service was very great! It was just kind of small. Hopefully they will open up a bigger spot! I would recommend this place to anyone!

This place was great! Their grouper sandwich was the best I've ever eaten. Fried okra on the side. This was a perfect lunch spot, full of local folks. For dessert, we had chocolate "wet" cake and coconut pie. Mmmmm!!! If you're in Townsend to see the caverns, stop by. This place is a hidden gem!!

Couple times it's been pretty good. But the last time I ordered a bacon cheeseburger with no mayo, I received a cheeseburger with mayo. When I sent it back I got the bacon, but there was still a bit of mayo left on my tomatoes. This didn't make me very happy

Tasty homestyle eats... a beautiful view in a home-y setting. I had boiled shrimp; which were tasty and cooked well...Desserts looked awesome but we ran out of room.

Went there for a quick dinner while staying in a cabin in Townsend. Very friendly service and great/cheap food! Not much to complain about :) Other than, they were out of baked potatoes and soup (but we weren't going to order it anyways!) Will def. return if we ever come back to Townsend!

The Black Bear Cafe is asmall, inexpensive cafe offering sandwiches, salads and soups that are homemade from mostly local ingredients. The ambiance is spartan, the service quick and reliable. Overall, a good choice for lunch. A dinner menu is available after 4pm.
