Fantastic B and B!! Highly recommend without reservation for a romantic getaway or anniversary celebration. 5 star service at the top of the smoky mountain. Kathleen, the owner is attentive and goes above and beyond to make your stay comfortable. She provides excellent directions and can also provide alternative routes to avoid traffic. Amazing view! There are four unique suites with very comfortable beds and a lot of character . Kathleen offers great restaurant recommendations or allows you to grill on sight to take advantage of the breath-taking sunset. If your willing to splurge I recommend blackberry farm for dinner and to come back and relax in the hot tub. In the morning you receive a wonderful 3 course breakfast! I have recommended this place to many friends and family.
My husband and I stayed at Gracehill for two nights. It was our first time staying at a b&b, and it was great! The innkeeper, Kathy, is a great hostess. Kathy is so knowledgeable about the Townsend/gatlinburg/pigeon forge area and is able to give great recommendations on things to do in the area and back roads to use to avoid some of the tourist traffic. The rooms were clean and comfortable. The breakfasts were amazing! It was so evident that Kathy loves what she does and her heart goes into every meal she creates. I can't say enough good things about it. You will not be disappointed.

Unbelievable coffee shop in Townsend next to Ace hardware near the light. Coffee roasted fresh in the shop for immediate enjoyment or for purchase. Comfortable and inviting seating. Pastries by Connie, the incomparable master chef of Townsend. If you haven't visited, it is worth making time. You will love it.
Great addition to Townsend! Dedicated to a perfect cup of coffee. Very friendly owners. Try it you'll like it.
Friendly staff and great coffee. They roast their own free trade coffee beans. We purchased some Guatemalan beans to grind ourselves and it was excellent.

Freshly made hamburgers - no heat lamps - means you wait a few minutes for your order. (No hardship on a gorgeous day at an outdoor table just a few minutes outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park.) It also means crisp lettuce, cool tomato slices, a tastier hamburger and maybe the best meal for your money in the vicinity of the Park. This is a great place to hit for lunch or an early dinner if you're making the trip to Cades Cove for a bear-jam. (Traffic jam due to any sighting of wildlife on the beautiful single-lane Cades Cove loop.) After a few days of pricy tourist dining in Garlinburg, this little burger and ice cream spot is a delightful find.
If you're in the area, don't overlook this gem as just another dive burger place. The Burger Masters deliver great throwback burgers and delish fries -- totally hit the spot after a morning of fishing. All made to order. Top it off with a malt (yes, real malt powder, not that Communist liquid malt) or other ice cream treat. A worthwhile food coma awaits you. Update: did tubing at the River Rat next door a couple of days later, and stopped by BM again. Two words -- Yes, malts.
Such a cute place with a feel of simpler times. Located in a cute a frame building. Ordered soft serve dipped cone, hot fudge cake and sundae. All were excellent. Service was fast and friendly. Prices are reasonable. Bring cash or check because credit cards are not accepted. look for the old police car in front that you can't miss.

Went there for lunch after a day in the Smoky Mountains with another couple. They're locals but had never been here. Picked it on a whim (I felt like having trout) and read some reviews before going in. The place deserves its high marks. We started with sweet potato fries. I love sweet potato fries and wasn't disappointed in these. Then on to the entree. I wanted both the pan seared and the fried trout, but ended up with the fried, along with corn and green beans. The trout was perfectly seasoned and almost perfectly cooked. It's a half pound of fish, too, so there's a lot to enjoy. The vegetables were surprisingly good - and the portions were huge for sides. Large portions seemed to be the rule. The kids meal our friend ordered was enough for any adult. My wife and our other friend ordered burgers. Neither finished theirs, but both said those were great burgers. They looked good. When we were there only two other tables were occupied, a 2 top and a 10 top. Service was fast and very friendly (thanks Ashley). Everything is clean (almost too clean, it spoils the rustic look they're going for), and the wait staff wear fairly traditional uniforms, which is all too rare now. I really liked this place and would happily go back the next time I'm visiting our friends in Knoxville.
Overall, good meal and wonderful service. Our waitress asked if everything was ok with the iced tea when she noticed I had not drank much of it. Tea was fine, had just finished a beer so I wasn't too thirsty. Shows attentive service that she asked. Note for out of towners (like us). They do not serve wine, only beer. If you would like wine with dinner, go up the road a few miles to Cades Cove Cellars to taste a few and buy a bottle for dinner. Trailhead will serve to you with dinner for a cork fee. Wish we had known this beforehand!
Was planning to go to another restaurant recommended on Yelp while in the area, but we were running late, and it was going to close in fifteen minutes. So we asked the shopkeeper at the outfitter store next door where she recommended for great local burgers, and without pausing, she recommended the Trailhead in Townsend. Since it opened at 3:00 pm, we had time to kill, and walked to the Chocolate Bar next door. We got back at three, got a table and ordered a blue cheese burger and a regular cheese burger. We received home made bread followed by one of the best burgers we've had, along with some awesome fries. Prices for the burgers were reasonable, no complaints. Their other entrées were more, but if the quality matched the burgers, it would be worth it. Food was great, beer was cold, and the atmosphere was pleasant and classy. Oh, and great service too!

Great American Traditional Cafe. Servers were nice, local atmosphere. Hamburgers were cooked to order. Added bacon to a cheeseburger with fries and was not disappointed. Fry serving was very big and sides are ordered separate, I'd suggest sharing an order. Did not get dessert but seen plenty of locals coming in to get some to go so it must have been good. Perfect spot away from the crowded side of the Smokies and worth coming back to.
Homemade burgers, diner type food. Fried okra or potato salad served with your burgers for something a little different. Best homemade peanut butter fudge I've ever had. Kids had chicken tenders. Looked hand battered and they raved about them. Little place, nothing special, but hit the stop for us.
Quaint eatery with very good fried trout and homemade desserts. Kids loved the fried chicken fingers which were very generous portion sizes for the price. Club sandwich was well done. Homemade soups were very good.

Food was tasty and good. Ambience not too bad. Four rating because the service is ok and very slow. Would visit again for the food if in town again.
The food was pretty good. I can' recall what my boyfriend ordered, but he loved it! I had a combo plate with a tamale, enchilada and something else. They were all beef and weren't bad, as I preferred the shredded beef over the ground beef. The service on the other hand was pretty slow... It appeared that there were only two waitresses working, both of whom had to also serve as hostess and cashier.
The staff was great we walked in as they were closing but they still took us in. The food was so good and big servings too. So if ur craving Mexican food this place will not let you down.

Carriage House Restaurant

I'm a local and this is one of my favorite places in Townsend (the other being black bear cafe). We eat here about once a week and love the fried chicken. Sometimes certain items are hit and miss but most of the time it's all good country cooking. We like the laid back atmosphere and they always remember us. I'm pretty critical of most of the restaurants here, but this is a diamond in the rough.
We lucked out into this place. Went up to the Smokies for the weekend and drove by Carriage House. This isn't Chili's or Applebee's, which I mean as a compliment. Carriage House opened for business in 1971 -- and looks it (a good thing). This is old-fashioned restaurant dining featuring things you won't find at your typical themed restaurant of today, such excellent food and service. And value. They had their "famous" Sunday buffet going on for all-you-can-eat food, salad, dessert and drink for $11.95! Sold! All the veggies were fresh and not out of a can. Fried chicken was great. Everything on the bar was great. And the place was so busy, the food was refreshed continuously, resulting in hot, fresh food. What a treat to have a dining experience such as this. Shame on those below who did not give this place five stars. Are you upset they didn't have a spinach artichoke dip?
This was the best horrifying meal I've ever had! We arrived on a random Friday in mid October around 2:30 in the afternoon. We walked in not expecting the Bates Motel feel, but willing to give it a try. We were seated promptly and given time to peruse the menu. My husband chose the Reuben with fries and I had the crispy chicken salad with ranch. I greatly enjoyed watching my salad being built out of the salad bar off of the Buffett, it was VERY big. My husbands Reuben came out, sans fries, ad was made of ham. While neither of us had experienced a Reuben made with ham, and could have sworn the menu called for corned beef. The food was eaten an sweet tea drunk. All in all the food was subpar, but we appreciate having a good vacation story to share!

Very good BBQ. I had the ribs and my wife had a pulled-pork sandwich. The setting was wonderful, we sat outside in a screened in porch on the river. The service was good, not particularly fast, but it was such a nice view, we weren't in a hurry.
Ok, not the best BBQ I ever had, but it sure hit the spot after an exhausting day of hiking. Super friendly waitstaff and the screened in back patio porch overlooking the river was a great. The sides were nothing special, but the rack of ribs sure hit the spot, and you have to love sweet tea served in giant mason jars, that's southern hospitality right there! There aren't too many eating options in Townsend so this is a great spot to grab a bite to eat.
Staff was very friendly and helpful, but the food was so-so. I had the pulled pork sandwich, which was very dry. The fried Okra was good but cold by the time we got it. Hushpuppies were over cooked. The water had a distinct chlorine aroma and flavor, and the beer was warm. I would look elsewhere for good BBQ.

Had breakfast buffet. Not bad. Bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs, biscuits, pancakes and etc. Coffee and drinks extra. Little pricy considering area and what you got. Cost almost $50 for 4 of us.
They have a reasonably priced breakfast buffet and kids eat free. Unfortunately, the quality of the buffet food falls somewhere between truck stop buffet and hospital cafeteria. It's not terrible or anything, but it would definitely be a stretch to call it good. I don't think I would rush back here.
The most despicable, horrid, reprehensible, and evil place manned by the worst wretched scum you will ever have the misfortune of encountering. AJ's should be burned to ash and the ground it stood on salted to purify its vile taint from the earth.
