I had a delicious burger and kettle chips at the Blue Chair! First off, super happy they are open Sunday's when so many things are closed. Secondly, there was so much on the menu I wanted to try! Everything tastes fresh and delicious. I added a fried egg to my burger and I love it. Juicy meat and a great bun, zero complaints. Arnold Palmer was delicious too, and refills are free. The decor is adorable, the prices are affordable... If this were near me I'd be a regular. Well worth stopping in on our way home from Monteagle. Next time I'll try a breakfast dish, served sold day, or stop in at the Tavern next door.

Stopped in here for a Girls Night Out dinner when we saw Laci Green at Sewanee. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is the food took forever, seriously, like 45 minutes. And it's bar food. And it was slow. And other folks got their meals before us when we ordered before anyone else had even come in. But, the important thing was the food! So good! My girlfriends has the jackalope chicken and fries, I had the pimento cheese sandwich with fries. Those fries are now in my dreams. But it gets better, they beer batter like everything! It's a dream come true for this southern girl....beer and fried! Woo! We also had the beer battered mushrooms to start with the jack ranch sauce. The mushrooms were fantastic and I I ever drown, please let it be in that sauce. In fact, we all ode red a side of it to dip of fries in! We didn't drink, but they do have beer on tap and a nice selection. The sweet tea was on point. The atmosphere was fantastic and the prices were so good I couldn't believe my bill was under $10! On the down side, I couldn't check in there because the cell service was so horrible but I'm sure they get that all the time. I'll be back, probably as often as I can get out of Nashville. Yum!

Love the atmosphere here. I stopped by on a Sunday morning. They have a decent selection on breakfast food. I had two biscuits of sausage, egg and cheese and bacon, egg and cheese. They were a tad small but I had no problem paying $6.50 for two. They have one large booth that will sit 6-8 and some tables that could seat larger parties. The service was great as they had two servers this particular morning. I'd recommend stopping by for breakfast!

The food is great! Best breakfast near sewanee. Best burgers in sewanee. Best beer on tap. It would be great to have a few more servers on busy nights but I don't want quality of food or prices to change. Well worth a few extra mins wait time.

Best kept secret in Sewanee!! Love the atmosphere and food. Great pastries and coffee as well. Service was very good.

We arrived in Sewanee after a long day of traveling with a toddler from LA. It was 10pm and we were hungry and tired. The food was great and the hospitality was second to none. We were immediately welcomed by the owner himself and felt right at home. The beer selection is wonderful, lots of local craft beers to choose from. The burgers were delicious and cooked perfectly. Our daughter even received a giant cookie. Cannot say enough good things about the place or the people.

We love to support the good work being done by the folks at Blue Chair! My favorite thing is the cranberry/coconut granola (we buy a bag & take home). As far as the food goes, it's pretty good. Nothing to write home about, but good. Customer service stands to improve, but overall a good spot to grab a meal in Sewanee!

Gotta keep everything in perspective! This quaint little gem is located on a mountain top and relative to options in the area, this cafe is very nice! Good coffee and other drinks, decent pastries, salads and cafe type entrées that are very decent and fresh. Don't compare to fine dining but to its local competitors. ...great for a quick meal with quite a few choices to meet almost anyone's dietary needs. I'd definitely come back when in town.

I waited an hour for a croissant that took two minutes to eat. The waitresses had no idea what was going on and totally skimped on our orange juice. Croissant was pretty damn good though.

The tavern has been our weekly go to place for over a year but that may be changing. It's relaxed, casual, somewhat limited menu but the food is fine. I enjoy going there for a burger and a decent beer. The servers are all pleasant, there just simply aren't enough of them on some nights. Twice in the last month we've got up and left after waiting over twenty minutes to place a drink order. The one server working was just overwhelmed, saw no point in staying and adding to the stress. Add to that a usually slowish pace for food from the kitchen and it just wasn't worth what we knew was going to be a long wait. Please reconsider your staffing!

This is a great little bakery/cafe. Relatively inexpensive, and trendy to say the least. The town does not have a lot when it comes to restaurants but this place is perfectly placed into the community. Obviously, it attracts a lot of the university staff and students. If you're there in the morning, try the honey granola or the ham, egg, and cheese biscuit. This cafe is perfect for anyone up on the mountain.

Note: This review is for the Tavern side of Blue Chair, although great things can also be said about the bakery and cafe. Since opening just over a year ago, The Blue Chair Tavern has become an institution in the Sewanee community. The small but comfortable space is inviting with tons of character - a beautiful bar, quirky decor, and even a wall of glasses labeled and reserved for regulars. Wonderful outdoor seating. Great bar food. Grab anything on the menu and a craft beer (or two) from their impressive rotating selection and you're set. Do yourself a favor and try a pint, pitcher, or growler (to go!) of any and all of the Jackalope brews from Nashville (the Thunder Ann is especially delicious). The people are what make this place truly special. The owner, Jimmy, and his entire staff make a point to make each customer's experience great. Don't be surprised if you see Jimmy going from table to table checking on his regulars or making a new customer feel right at home.

Five of us enjoyed two breakfasts here, plus four meals catered to our meeting at the nearby School of Theology at University of the South. At our breakfast gatherings in the bakery and coffee shop, the coffee and O.J. appeared immediately, then menus. Our server was attentive but not cloying. The food definitely was to our liking, as well as the "homey" setting and accessories which prompted one classmate to comment, "This is obviously owned by someone who loves this place." Parking is convenient. With several small shops nearby, the surroundings are pleasing and appealing. All of us managed to avoid the attractive glass case of freshly baked pastries, not did we succumb to the "Day Old" baked treats offered for only 75 cents. If you'd like a break from franchise and chain restaurants, come take a seat at The Blue Chair.

This is a truly delightful find in a delightful little surprise of a town. The soups are especially delicious, and breakfast is top notch. Don't miss the huge pastry case (not that you could!) and ice cream cones for the kids at ridiculously inexpensive prices. The tavern side is a great grown-up place to sip a craft beer (Nashville's Jackalope...yum!) and watch the game. Tuesdays are trivia night. Definitely worth a visit!

Had a decent lunch with family. Basic club, turkey, etc sandwiches and simple salads. No standouts and service satisfactory. A good meal, but nothing special Kids liked macaroni and cheese.

Take a pass. It's too bad, because there is some potential but definitely unrealized. The food is awful. Beef on weck was dry and tough as my grandma's heel... wings.. edible but not memorable... not worth a trip back. The staff barely has a clue, is unentertaining, and thinks a good night on the town is turning on the TV and watching reality shows. Spare me. I'll stay home next time, thanks. I'll go find out why the place across the street was packed next time.

Bright, sunny and cheerful little cafe located in an old house. Tasty soups and sandwiches and it is hard to miss the large pastry case. The chocolate chip muffins are great. I found the coffee to be freshly made and agreeable if lacking slightly in uniqueness. The staff is helpful and agreeable The Blue Chair Tavern recently opened in an adjoining space.

I went there twice on a visit to the area a few months ago. The first time was because it was recommended. The second time was because a bunch of relatives decided to eat there. On both occasions, I found the food to be only so-so, and the wait staff friendly but incompetent. Next time in the area, I'd give it a miss.

I enjoy the Jackalope beer on tap in The Blue Chair Tavern (the restaurant is divided: a cafe and bakery on one side for breakfast and lunch and an afternoon and nighttime tavern on the other). And the fries are always crispy.

Lovin' the Blue Chair! Popped in for breakfast last Saturday. The homemade Granola was fabulous (I got half Cranberry Coconut, half Honey and Oat) and the espresso was honestly the best I think I've had. Super fresh and with the slightest little delightful hint of spice. Can't wait to go back.

The blue chair is a very quaint place to grab a quick bite. Our server was incredibly friendly had had no problem recommending her favorites. I chose the BLT and was pleased with how large my sandwich was. I ended my meal with chocolate milkshake which was just okay. If you are looking for a place to have a meal with friends this is a place you should check out.

If you end up in sewanee or mt eagle this is a good place to get vegetarian food or just hang out. The food is fresh and healthy. The espresso drinks are okay. Much better than starbucks but don't expect any latte art or anything fancy. A great place to hang out with lots of personality.
