Ate here on a Tuesday night at recommendation of hotel clerk.had the babyback ribs, just soso! No real flavor at all,had to use way to much sauce, they were tender and almost fall off the bone! The real dissapointment was the sides, extremely small serving portions, nothing special about the taste and the beans were not completely cooked.Very dissapointed overall in there Tuesday night special @&16.75/water to drink, guess it would have been $20 w/drink. Earl the waiter was good! I do not recommend,I will never eat here again, too many other "good" choices around,Need to step it up Tony! You're not even in the BBQUE game

Just ate at Tony Gores because friends said it was the best BBQ. Needless to say, if you prefer to taste smoke and no meat, I guess it would be great for you. The only thing worth while was the fried green tomatoes. I would never recommend this to anyone as a good BBQ place!!!!!

We drove from Knoxville for a buffet which is what the ad on the radio said they had. Well no buffet. Waited over 40 minutes for our food. Beans were not done, still hard. Corn and fries came 10 minutes after entree. Was pricey for what you got.

I have to think that our timing was part of the problem. We needed to eat early and they were preparing for a group of 100 people arriving for a concert. Our server who was a very amiable gentleman advised us to get our order in fast. I had ribs and brisket. The ribs were fell off the bone but were very dry. The brisket melted in your mouth, was delicious but very fatty. The deep fried wings one of our party had were not very good at all, too much breadcrumbs and a spicy BBQ sauce that was too salty and not that spicy. (serves her right for ordering deep fried wings in a bbq joint). The fried catfish ordered by the other was moist and delicious. I just had to think they were capable of doing better, reading the other reviews and almost regret only giving it 2 stars because our server Earl was so nice.

My family and I really thought we had found a good spot. We are locals and really look for "non chain" restaurants. The place is not real big, but not real small. When we gave our order, the waitress couldn't understand why we also wanted water and tea. It's for when the waitress never comes back to check and see if we would like more tea. Especially for $2.58 for tea...we would like to have at least one refill. I had to ask another waitress to refill our drinks...ours was sitting down and talking with a group outside. After who knows how long our food FINALLY comes out...but by another waitress. Where is our waitress? The food was good...not great but good. Onion rings were not good and my ribs were more of a soft mush...not that great. Now the brisket was maybe the best I have ever had. My wife said her pork was real good. We noticed the table behind us still had not received their meal...and they were there before us. After we were finished we waited...and waited...and waited. Then our original waitress finally came by with our check. No refills...no "how is/was your food?" Come on lady...if you can't do the job...then step to the side and let someone else who can. I get so tired of going to a restaurant and getting bad food or service or both. We would come back. It was good...well almost all of it. We won't get tea next time. We gave another waitress (Cindy/Sidney) the tip. She did much more...refills, then our's did. We will ask for her next time. She was very sweet and very good. In closing, I wish we had read the other reviews. What are you guys doing back in the kitchen? Why the big delay in getting our food? It might be a while before we go back.

Want to love this place - but I can't. $72 (including tip) for a family of four to eat is too much for us. Kids meal was over $7. Server was incredibly nice, but food prep was very, very slow. Don't come here if you are already hungry. Food did come out hot. Slaw was diced up and bland. Baked beans were fairly plain. Brisket was fatty and thinly shredded. I Felt like I ate lots of grease and fat at this meal. The garlic bread had great flavor but was also too saturated with butter for my liking. Everyone has their own preference, but we had buyers remorse after eating here. The chicken tenders meal was a healthy portion but lots of other less expensive places to get tenders.

I wish we had seen the fried green tomatoes on the menu before we ordered. We would have ordered them too. However, we knew what we wanted when we went in. We wanted brisket! We make it a point to eat brisket in almost every place we visit. We had yet to eat brisket in Tennessee. Instead of picking one of the local chain restaurants, we saw this place driving by and had to stop. We figured any place with a smoker in front, had to be good. The brisket was very, very flavorful. You could definitely taste the smoke in it. We loved it and we loved the barbecue sauce too. The only thing keeping this place from 5 stars in my opinion for the brisket was there was very little bark on the brisket and it was sliced a smidgen too thin. Besides that, it was amazing. We loved the beans and the cole slaw. I can't believe someone said there wasn't much flavor in the beans. Not so as they were delicious. We found the hushpuppies a little heavy though. Our server was great too.

Eating at Tony Gore's twice this week, we enjoyed every bit if food, from the pulled pork and beef brisket to the fries and okra. The baked beans are the star, packed with pulled pork and slow cooked really well. Bread choices are hushpuppies, garlic bread or fried yeast roll. We skipped dessert; but if sweets are your thing, their cakes and pies are HUGE and look amazing. The service was very personal and friendly.

Excellent food. Excellent service. Everything is home made and you can really tell because the quality is amazing. Such great flavors. The cakes are also home-made and they give huge pieces.

Took a chance on this place. Not bad overall. We got nudged toward the buffet by the wait staff.... OK. We gave that a try and it was all right. Sauces were a little bland, veggies were a little bland. They have a "gift shop" next door that sells various and sundry items. I bought a bottle of "sorghum" which is like a molasses that you put in biscuits, couple things of Tony's BBQ sauce which has like a sweet flavor, a mustard flavor, etc. Also some other nick knacks to pass out at grandma's house. Kind of funny the woman who waited on us also ran the gift shop and kept trying to open a dialog about jesus for some reason. Well, funny at first I guess.

My boyfriend and I came here after hearing about this place from a guy I work with. I had the ribs which were very good and my boyfriend had the brisket. He's very picky about brisket and said it was the best he's ever had!! We were both stuffed after that and wasn't planning on having desert but after we heard they had banana cream pie, we had to try it. Simply the best banana cream pie ever!!!!! I highly recommend this place and can't wait to go back! P.S..... Earl was awesome!!!

We visited Tony's based on Yelp reviews. Otherwise we may have just passed it by, as the curb appeal is not quite there. I guess this is where "never judge a book by it's cover" comes into play. We started off with the cheese sticks. They were good but I would have preferred marinara sauce for a dip instead of ranch dressing and honey mustard. For an entree I ordered the brisket and it was very good. The coleslaw was different from any coleslaw I'd had before but it was good. Sweet, not vinegary.Definitely get the fried roll. Yum. My husband ordered the smoked sausage which he only thought was "okay" His french fries were a little limp and soggy. The sweet tea, however, must have some sort of crack in it because it was some of the best sweet tea I have ever had. We asked for a to-go cup and they brought us out a HUGE cup. One thing I wished that they would do is label the sauces and/or have some description of the sauces as part of the menu. We had no idea what was going on with the sauces. Two of the sauces were in the yellow and red squeeze bottles and we thought they were mustard and ketchup. In fact, they were two of the better sauces available. If we hadn't discovered them I would have rated the sauces as sub-par. Service was not too slow, but there seemed to be a lack of urgency in any case. We weren't in a particular hurry to get out of the restaurant but I noticed a table next to us that was constantly trying to get the attention of the waiter so that they could get their check. The giant cake that you see when you come in? It's awesome and a single piece would easily feed 2-3 people. Unless you really, really like cake! I got a piece of the turtle cake with it's homemade caramel frosting. Yum, yummy, yum.

Super friendly staff and the BBQ pork was good but the brisket... was all fat and tough. You must get the lemon icebox pie though!

The brisket I ordered was all fat. The garlic Toast was stuff I can buy at the supermarket. Waste of $50

This is as good as it gets for old fashioned southern BBQ cooking. Friendly staff and delicious baby back ribs with over 5 choices of sauces. Homemade baked beans and coleslaw. It's not your regular chain restaurant and there is gospel music at times. There are celebrity pictures on the walls. Bathrooms are clean. The restaurant itself has a diner type atmosphere but the food is worth it and dessert pies are made from scratch to complete your BBQ dining experience. There is a BBQ smoker out front which you can see and smell from the road. It's a family friendly restaurant. We will be back.

OMG!!b let's starts with amazing service!!! Earl is one of the kindest waiters I've ever encountered!! He knows what's good and can steer you in the right direction from appetizers to desserts! We started with the fried green tomatoes served with the BBQ ranch! Again OMG!!!! We moved on to entrees and let's just say always ask what's NOT on the menu because the smoked meatloaf was to die for!! We had a kids Mac n cheese, 3 little pigs, loaded t chips and a smokey mountain cheesesteak!!!!! To finish it off a large slice of the white cake topped with strawberries and whipped topping!!!!!! We will be back for sure!!!!!!

I had the brisket plate. A little on the dry side, but I've had worse. 6/10... Don't add on the salad bar, it was the worst lettuce I've ever seen 1/10... The onion rings were a really thick batter 3/10... We were served by the blonde waitress she seemed to care less about selling the items. However the gentleman with glasses was telling all his customers about everything, he was great... Overall 3/10

I came here because of the reviews. I had high hopes, I was let down. My fiance and I both ordered the Brisket, I ordered mine with a side of fresh cut french fries, they were far from fresh. Now for the Brisket, IT WAS ALL FAT. I couldn't even find enough eat to meat. My fiance had the same problem, she didn't even eat her's and left hungry. I thought Tennessee knew how to do BBQ, turns out the BBQ in Michigan is by far superior. You let me down Tony Gore's.

without hesitation five stars! I got some Loaded T chip thing. It was crazy good. I would go far out of my way to eat here again. I actual;ly called ahead to make sure they had fresh hand cut fries as advertised and i ended up ordering this pile of "food love". it was basically fresh cut potato chips made in house with pulled pork , cheese and sauce over the top. it was huge too! above all that I was seated where I was staring at the desert case through my entire meal and I couldnt take my eyes off it. everything inside looked delicious so I had to ask who made them. Ill give you one guess who. I had to get one! It was extremely good and i would highly recommend. the waiter was very friendly and informative. all the food we got was excellent. GO!

As my husband and I drove to our hotel we saw this BBQ place. We were so excited to have some BBQ that I drove all the way back to get the food later on. I was so disappointed with the end result. We had to do take out because our daughter was exhausted from the long drive and someone needed to stay with her. When I arrived, I put in an order for chicken wings, brisket, and a side of Mac n cheese. I felt the waitress was not as friendly when I walked in. I was told about 20/30 mins after I ordered that there was only boneless chicken pieces not wing. I wanted wings but I figured it was chicken. I ended up waiting a pretty long time to get my food. I get that there were some people in the place so I knew it would take a little while. But when the person who orders food 10 mins after you gets their food before you, it is annoying. So my food was put up for the waitress to take. But now my waitress was on our phone so it took longer to get my food. When another waiter finally got my food I was shocked. I spent 3 dollars for Mac and cheese that was really just a scoop. The sides for the brisket were very skinny. The chicken pieces were pretty good. The brisket was half fat and half meat. I should have looked at other's reviews before ordering the brisket. I would have gotten my husband something different. Overall our first meal in TN was a bust.

Food was excellent, service was good I would highly recommend the brisket plate or the brisket sandwich, the mac and cheese with a coin the slow is OK I would recommend this for anyone. Top notch barbeque

My mouth is SO happy! Reasonable prices for huge portion sizes. My wife and I ordered the fried appetizer platter with fried green tomatoes, mushrooms, and onion rings. Batter was excellent, and we were almost full after eating half of the plate, before the main course even arrived. I ordered the 1/2 rack of ribs, wife ordered the brisket. Both were superb. I had hush puppies as a side, best I've ever had, tasted like deep fried honey cornbread. My wife, who is not a BBQ junkie like me, guarded her brisket with a sharp fork and I had to beg for a sample, which she begrudgingly allowed. Serving staff were very personable and quick to provide refills and check on us.

Still waiting on my food... the wait staff won't even look at you in the eye anymore. No wonder the glasses are so huge so they they won't have to keep refilling your drink. I'm giving this place 3 of 5 stars. They had to call in another cook because the food was hot and good. Slightly under cooked potato though.. I'm glad I didnt order the ribs since they had to get it from somewhere else or it might of been my imagination. It was overheard that they were understaffed. The waitress was very apologetic and even discounted our meal. I tipped her the standard rate anyway because it wasnt her fault they were still chasing the hog to be drawn and quartered and ready to be served. If I go back I'll have to be up front with them and ask what the serve time is going to be. A faux pax for any customer to ask but reading all the previous reviews, one can not be too certain anymore.

5 stars is not enough to describe the food in this place. This in true ,from the heart BBQ . The ribs, pulled pork, greens and potato salad are # 1 . Driving down the road I got a whiff of the smoker in action and knew it was time to eat. The wait staff are as friendly as your expect ions of southern hospitality. Background music is gospel ,where as Tony is also an ordained minister.Their slogan is "never trust a skinny cook" This is a must for true BBQ fans.

Took the family to dinner at Tony Gore's BBQ while vacationing in the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area. My oldest daughter LOVES ribs and I'm not one to pass up a good brisket myself so we stopped in ready to eat some good ol' BBQ. To start things off we had an order of fried-green tomatoes. These were excellent and enjoyed by everyone (even our little one who can't stand veggies...granted they were battered and fried, but she's even picky with her fried foods). For dinner we ordered a half-slab of the ribs, a brisket plate, an order of "3 Little Pigs" (3 mini-brisket sandwiches) and chicken tenders for the little one. My daughter enjoyed the ribs (and luckily didn't eat them all so I could have some), my wife said the brisket plate was "so-so" and I will give the "3 Little Pigs" an above average rating. The little one gave the chicken tenders two thumbs up. For my sides I ordered the baked beans (which were awesome) and corn nuggets. I want to make sure I state that I haven't had corn nuggets since grade school (I'm talking battered sweet corn nuggets of joy) and I loved 'em! They were everything I expected and may have to stop back on the way home just for an order of these little buggers! The sauce options were plenty. My wife and I agree that the brisket definitely needed the sauces (it was more of a dry brisket), but the ribs really didn't need anything additional. They fell right off the bones and had an awesome touch of "smoke" to them. Just writing this review is bringing back that "smoked" flavor. Living in Tennessee we had to try the Sweet Tea and it was excellent. I had an Un-Sweet Tea and found it well made as it wasn't too strong and tasted great with an added lemon wedge. The wait staff was friendly and informed us in great detail how the desserts were made in-house (including the caramel topping on the pies). As others have stated the prices do seem a little high for a mom-and-pop restaurant, but the good eats definitely defend the higher prices. When I compare the meal to other meals in the same price range, the meal from Tony Gore's definitely stood out from the rest. Tony Gore is also a gospel singer and was "on tour" while we were in town. His restaurnant is filled with the sounds of Southern Gospel songs and while not really my main listening preference I did not find it bad one bit. I will definitely make sure to stop back next time we're in the area.

Service was strange. For our party of 7 the food came out in spurts and in no particular order. I ordered sirloin steak medium and got a slice of beef not a steak. It was thin enough for a Philly cheese steak sandwich. It was well done and tasted like it was grilled over charcoal lighter fluid not charcoal. I sent it back and got another piece of meat just like it. Sides were small portions. Salads were passable. Desserts were great looking but had little taste. Pass this place by.

  • Sue E.

Unfortunately I have to give this place a low score due to how long it took to get our food. We had a party of five and it took 30 mins to get our appetizers. It took another 1.5hr to get our meals. Waiting 2 hrs for a kid's burger is ridiculous. The waitress was very apologetic. But we had four other families that came after us and had their meal before us. Overall the food was average nothing spectacular when comparing to the prices.

Good food! I had the buffet, and while there were several items on it that I didn't want to eat (greens, stewed tomatoes, etc.) all the items I did want (BBQ, chicken, dressing) were good. Others in my party ordered from the menu and enjoyed their meals. I had the caramel-apple pie for dessert and it was great!

Bad BBQ. My wife and I both had the pulled pork. It was served cold and the sauces with little BBQ flavor, and the sauces didn't help. We had the fried green tomatoes which were greasy and not very appealing. The beans were OK. My wife didn't eat her meal, just the small dish of beans. I'm not sure why everyone else likes this place.

  • Mark R.

Tony's is great! Tony himself waits on tables! The food is really good (so far I had the chicken and beef). I'm looking forward to trying the ribs. The surprise is the Souther Gospel music by Tony and his guests. Check out his web site for the upcoming event. It's great to find a local BBQ and not a chain. Good stuff!

Get it in ya Porky! Look man....I know BBQ. I bleed BBQ sauce. My shirts are eternally stained and I sweat hickory smoke. I like to try BBQ when traveling to sample how other pro's do it. I own a competition pit and cook my own Virginia style for catered events. WITH THAT SAID....good BBQ is like a good wine or a good cigar....it's what YOU like. I know what I like and that's how I make it. First off....Tony has a non chain restaurant on the outskirts of tourist trap hell called Pigeon Forge. My style.....I loathe any place that has more than one location. Tony is on scene...good deal, that means he keeps an eye on his product. Tony is not a small fella......good deal. As he advertises...cant trust skinny cooks. I ordered pulled pork because that is the signature dish of any BBQ joint. Says pulled but more "fine shredded" like. This works for restaurants because the shred holds the sauce better and doesn't fall off the bun. Definite hickory smoke flavor (we use apple wood in Virginia). Sauces were sweet, sweet n spicy and Carolina hot style. Not bad...a bit different from what I'm used to. I did not like the cole slaw but then again...cole slaw comes in different styles and I have a particular go to recipe. Sweet tea was classic southern....excellent. Gospel was jamming on the radio and the folks having lunch seemed to be mostly locals...not bowling pin shaped tourists fresh from the latest Dolly Parton signature attraction. I said a couple of "amen's" in there and my server called me "darlin'". Any place I get called darlin' gets a bonus star. Bottom line: Smoked bbq IS gospel. Get your pig on.

We tried Tony Gore's on their Yelp recommendations. Otherwise we would probably not have stopped with so many chains and giant flashing signs for restaurants in the traffic jam down the road. I'm glad we stopped! We were there on the 4th of July. Apparently there was some kind of concert going on, so we were seated outside. Luckily it was a cool, breezy, comfortable day, although the patio could use some sprucing up and the metal chairs were not so comfortable. Our waitress was brisk, but friendly and answered all our questions. We had 4 adults and 4 kids, with half the party from NC, so we knew what we like in bbq and bbq sides. I had the Smoky Mtn Cheesesteak and cole slaw. It did not disappoint. The sandwich was big and overloaded with meat, cheese and onions. The bun was a little soggy, but when I added sauce anyway (teriyaki) it held together for the most part. The slaw was the smooth creamy kind that I like best. Two adults had the brisket sandwich and while they liked the flavor of the brisket, they felt shorted on the amount of meat they received, especially compared to my cheesesteak. The French fries were home made, fresh cut and the best I've had in a while. Terrific with any of the sauces. Corn nuggets and fried okra were good too. My 2 year old and 6 year old liked their chicken tenders and smoked bologna sandwich (almost an inch thick bologna slice!) as well. I'm glad we stopped and would stop again if we were cruising by and there wasn't a wait.

Had some ribs, they were fantastic. Wife had the hickory smoked ribeye. That was right on too. had the fried pickle Spears, they were ok, I prefer chips. The onion rings were awesome. Only the service was a disappointment. Seems like our waitress was woken from a nap. She showed up at the table, pad in hand, just kinda looking at us.. It was weird. But great food though.

I had dinner here recently with an out-of-town friend. While it wasn't the best place I've ever been, it wasn't the worst either. I had the fried catfish, and ordered okra but received onion rings (which I went ahead and ate - they were really good). My friend had the pulled pork. He's a BBQ/grill expert and he *said* the food was good, but he didn't *look* impressed. And he used sauces, which he has previously said are unnecessary if the BBQ is done well. He did eat every bite, though, so take that for whatever it's worth. :-) The coleslaw was *exactly* like the slaw my aunt and uncle have been making for 60 years. Delicious! We shared the fried pickles as an appetizer and I thought they were fantastic! The sauces are so good that I bought a bottle. On our way out, the waitress was coming out of the kitchen with several plates of ribs and they looked and smelled *amazing* (although, since I didn't have the ribs I can't vouch for them). I might go back if a friend was craving BBQ, but it's not one of the best places I've been. I will go back to buy more sauce, though. They have preserves, too, so I may pick up a jar or two of those. The prices were on the high range of moderate, but perfectly reasonable. As for the atmosphere, it was casual to the point of being almost TOO casual. And the noise level was so high that my friend and I had difficulty having a conversation at a reasonable volume (felt like I was shouting at him). VERY close quarters, too - the guy at the table next to me was practically at my table (and he did NOT smell good).

Tasty BBQ with five sauce choices. Okra and beans were a good choice with my lunch. Everything was good but overpriced. Look to spend about 15 a person and listen to nonstop gospel music.

I love BBQ and I love hole-in-the-wall BBQ joints. Love the wait staff. Kept my drink filled and love the choices in BBQ sauce. Will return soon on my next vacation time there.

Tony Gore's Smoky Mountain BBQ and Grill is A-OK. I thought the ribs were pretty good, although they seemed a little scorched on the outside. While they didn't taste scorched, the aesthetic of completely blackened ribs wasn't there for me. The meat was pretty tender. There was an array of sauces on the table that were not marked, so I couldn't tell you which one I had, but it was very good. We ordered some fried green beans with an orange flavored duck sauce. They were good. The deep fried corn was tasty and the bbq beans were excellent. That was my favorite side dish. Sweet, tangy and smoky. The service was excellent and very good considering the waitress was handling every table on her own. She was great about refilling drinks. The background gospel music was not overwhelming. If I hadn't seen Tony Gore's website, I might not have even realized this guy was a gospel singer and born again Christian. My one and only complaint about this place is that a lot of the things I touched were a little sticky. It seems it could have used a good wipe down with a hot cloth. So, I took a star off for that. I thought the prices were in line for the amount of food and quality, actually the prices were reasonable compared to the rib chains around the area. I got a half rack of ribs with two sides for $14.99. There was plenty of food--two sides and a bread choice of Texas toast, hush puppies or biscuits. I brought home leftovers. All in all, I think we got a good meal at Tony Gore's Smoky Mountain BBQ and I would go back again. As a side note, I believe they have a buffet lunch for $7.95 with various bbq meats. FYI, this is a dry restaurant (no alcohol), as is much of Sevierville.
