This little gem is located away from the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg on a scenic road in what feels like the middle of nowhere. I was skeptical when we pulled up to their parking lot because it looked like a series of 3 or 4 shacks strewn together haphazardly but the food was delicious. I ordered the Porkalicious pile up and found it to be very tasty. My husband ordered the brisket sandwich combo with macaroni and cheese and baked beans on the side. If I were to come back here, I would definitely order the brisket again. The pork was good but not nearly as good as the brisket. The brisket was deliciously smokey and pleasingly tender. The baked beans were sweet and smokey and the macaroni and cheese was delicious. Stop by here if you get a chance. The people working here are very pleasant and the food is amazing. Be sure to try the brisket, you won't regret it.

This is not your typical sit down restaurant with servers or employees. You call ahead to reserve your meat on the smoker or else there is a high risk of them selling out. You will be a happy customer if you go in with that in mind. Excellent ribs. The fried okra and pickles were a nice touch but the real show stopper were the juicy, tender ribs. No bbq sauce required, smoked and seasoned perfectly. The best part about my experience here was that you can tell that the owner, Michael, really cares about the food he prepares and is visibly excited about the work he does to ensure great flavor. I am also happy to see that he will not lower his standards to try and maximize his business and I can appreciate that he wants to stay small. The real draw to come out and find this little bbq is this quaintness. In the end it was "porkalicious!"

I promise you, it is worth the wait! Besides amazing spare ribs and succulent pulled pork, their sides are also fabulous! I highly suggest this hidden gem outside the mayhem of touristy Gatlinburg.

Dawn's Dee South Smokehouse is a hidden gem of southern deliciousness. We found it during our stay in a nearby cabin complex about a year ago. The pulled pork sandwiches were amazing. Dawn made our day brighter and we're definitely stopping by again next time we're in the area. I suggest getting extra sandwiches to have during a road trip. Just the memories of it have my mouth watering and craving for southern food!

Great food and hospitable owners. Wings are meaty. Brisket is piled high on the sandwich bun. Even the beans are smoked. The watermelon with lime syrup is a nice and light way go end the meal. Pro tip: pour the remaining watermelon juice into your unsweetened tea Get here early in the day though. When they've run out of food, that's it until tomorrow.

Not what we expected. We were concerned when we arrived. It's not so much a restaurant as it is a shack. There is indoor seating, but rather picnic like. However, it suited us fine, as we were aiming for take out anyway. When we got home and opened the take out box, all of our worries dissolved as we took our first bite of the most tender, melt-in-your mouth brisket we've ever had. They were out of ribs and chicken. Apparently, you have to get there early in the day, as they sell out. The cole slaw and potato salad we okay. But the best BBQ brisket ever. We'll be sure to come back next time we visit the area.

The food is delicious!! We were a group of 13, so they set up a buffet for us. We were able to try the ribs, pulled pork, chicken, and beef brisket. All were among the best I have tasted. And the owners are delightful!

Off the beaten path about a 20 minute drive from the parkway. I've had bbq all over the place and this is honestly the best I've ever eaten. Dawn and Michael were extremely hospitable and felt like family. Support local people that cook for the love of the food and to serve others. Everything we had was excellent. Hope they decide to come back Michael's home town of Easley SC and open a Deep South there.

At first the appearance is a little off putting, but I came to love how simple and at home it makes you feel. The people have the same inviting aura! The restaurant owners are a married couple and are beyond hospitable. They make you feel like they invited you for a home cooked meal. The bbq sauce is phenomenal, which makes it worthy to put on their out of this world smoked meats. Beer battered fries are the best fries you will probably come across and you'll wish the fried okra was bottomless. Definitely arrive early because when they run out of something, and they do, it's gone for the day. Don't miss out on the ribs and jalapeño poppers like we did! Next time I head into the deep south, Deep South Smokehouse will be on the route.

We stopped at this BBQ place on our last night in town. We had chicken, wings, baked beans and cole slaw. They were all scrumptious. The owners were very warm and welcoming. The wife even surprised us with jalapeño poppers that were complimentary. If you love BBQ, hands down this is one of the best we've ever had. The kids also adored Ms.Maddie. Thank you for making our trip a memorable one.

Seriously the best bbq ever! And such a wonderful woman who runs the place. But get there early..cause once it's gone...it's gone. You won't want to miss it. If you're on vacation the drive may seem out of the way, but go! Run...don't walk! You will not regret it!

The food is terrific! The 3 of us had ribs, chicken and pork and they were all great. I had the ribs and they were seasoned perfectly, tender and with the chipotle barbecue sauce (I bought a pint to go), the flavor blend was outstanding. The homemade mac and cheese (only available 2 days a week) was rich and really good, as was the potato salad. We got some jalapeno poppers to go and they were finger licking delicious. The service was great and we appreciated the simple setting and warm hospitality. Sure wish we could get this shipped to us! (hint hint :-)

We ordered take-out today from Deep South and it was as good as everyone says it is. We had pulled pork, brisket, the fabulous poppers, homemade potato salad, beans, Cole slaw and fried okra. It was delicious! The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the Cole slaw. My personal preference is mayo based and this wasn't. The potato salad was almost as good as mine! Sauces are also very good. The owners are extremely nice. I love to see small places like this do well! It is really worth the drive if you aren't close by.

Well worth the drive for the best BBQ in town. The pulled pork sandwich was amazing with the Carolina sauce. The fried okra and beans were to die for. It was so good we came back the next day for more. Very friendly owners make u feel at home.

Absolutely fantastic ribs! I also highly recommend the Jalepano poppers, they are amazing....fresh peppers stuffed with cheese, wrapped in bacon and smoked with their delicious barbecue sauce! The owners are friendly and very hospitable.
