Always fast service, friendly staff, and a pleasant atmosphere! I have eaten here several times when I need a quick meal when working out of the hotel. Less than 10 minutes between the time I leave the room and I am back with a meal, no matter how busy they are.

You wander in and order a few bean burritos, on the PA system "The Bomb" by the bucketheads is playing in the background. You quickly use the nasty filthy thing they call a bathroom and try to quickly open the door and get out before it slams shut.. You order your food, get your drink and sit down, watching, listening, tasting...Sipping your Mt Dew...watching cars go by and wonder where you will be in 2, 5, 10 years from now, will you be able to overcome your facial acne and ask that pretty chic out on a date? Will you ever get out of this stinkin state and move to the west coast and be part of something new? The year is 1995, the place is Taco Bell off Rutgers.. Man this was probably one of my first fast food experiences. My Dad would take us here and when I worked in Oak Ridge I'd swing by here for lunch. I remember in my last few years in the area in my mid 20s I'd swing by here after 10pm. Dependable crew worked there. It's hard to quantify the nostalgic love I have for this place this particular Taco Bell, theres also the one that was near where the old KMart used to be in Farragut I think. Anywhoo Fast Forward nearly 20 years later and once once ONCE in a great while I'll swing by the taco bell and order some colon clearing entrees. But this place still resides in my memory. I am glad it's still there, dunno how old it is probably been there for ages but I hope I can swing by there when I come down to visit again... I mean this is Taco Bell people but there is so much more...so much more here. Not just some stucco building with a nasty bathroom Not just some gathering area for lowlifes after 8pm Not just some island of filth in the surrounding asphalt...

Great family owned mediterranean food. Basically a to go place. Wonderful, fresh food. Lamb wraps are amazing, but then pretty much all else is great too.
Had high expectations I guess from reading others reviews. I was disappointed in the flavors, too much oil, and lack of fresh pita. I am sorry to say it just feel flat for me, I have had much better.

Read the two reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try on a Friday night. Ouch. It was karaoke night (from 6-9PM. Thursdays too?). Very loud. Ordered drinks (my small frozen margarita was competent, but unremarkable) and considered leaving rather than placing a food order. Inertia kept us in our seats and I was glad it did. The karaoke singers were at least enthusiastic, if not all that talented, and it was fun to watch families having such a good time. I ordered the molcajete with poblano chiles and tomatillo salsa. I didn't really know what it was and, at $13 it was pretty much the most expensive thing on the menu. The service was slow, in fact they were so slow when I asked for a refill on my margarita that I eventually canceled the order because we were so close to leaving. My wife ordered the chiles rellenos with added grilled chicken. Both were surprisingly good. The molcajete came in a thick stone bowl with legs, shaped like a bull. The stone kept the dish hot. There was chicken, beef, and shrimp in the dish along with peppers, onions, and other vegetables in a spicy sauce. In fact, it was very spicy and I sweated profusely. The dish came with 6 flour tortillas and I ate the molcajete as if it was fajitas. I took home about half and enjoyed it over rice for lunch the next day. My wife really enjoyed her chiles rellenos. So what is the score? I don't know about the rest of the menu, but I give the food we ordered 4 stars. Can't blame the restaurant for the karaoke since it was clearly advertised on the door when we went in. But the service was slow enough to earn a demerit, hence the three stars. We will go back, just not on a Friday night.
My wife and I have settled in our favorite place for Mexican. With over 10 visits under our belt we both agree that Rancho Viejo is the quality and value in the Knoxville area. Always friendly and appreciative of our patronage.
This was our first time here. We are visiting from out of town and came here because several people gave this place good reviews. Well, we were not disappointed. We had the mexi egg rolls and they were delicious. A little spicy with lots of flavor! I ordered the chimichangas supremas. Four mini chimichangas. The shrimp chimichanga was by far the best. And shrimp can easily be rubbery in a chimichanga. The shredded chicken was also really good. The chopped beef was pretty good but I wasn't a huge fan of the ground beef. The guacamole that came with it was excellent. Very fresh tasting. The doorbell plays fur elise which is an odd choice for a Mexican restaurant. It was funny the first few times but became mildly irritating as the evening went on. That said, we would definitely come here again.

Magic Wok Chinese Restaurant

Reviews:
Amazing food. Even better prices. Great place to grab a quick lunch! The atmosphere is so-so but the staff is incredibly friendly. The menu has your typical Chinese food and portion sizes, even on the lunch menu are more than enough to keep you stuffed. I will definitely be visiting again and again!
This is some sort of icon in Oak Ridge. One thing I have to say is that Jim & Betty knows how to give a show. Of all the places I've been to no one can top their friendliness and the vibe Magic Wok offers. Plus the portions are good and easy on the wallet.
Awesome food for the price, and the atmosphere is as unique as they come. Jim and Betty will make sure you leave happy, full, and with the best deal in town for lunch. While they have no menu, you can ask her to make you any number of dishes with the ingredients available. If you are a spicey food fan, you can literally make your meal so spicey it will drive the rest of the patrons out of the restaurant (seen it done on more than one occaision). This place is an Oak Ridge staple, and certainly as important to the local food culture as Big Ed's.

Billy’s Time Out Deli

202A S Illinois Ave
Oak Ridge, 37830
Reviews:
Old school deli that churns out delicious food. I fantasize about having one of those sandwich steamers in my kitchen. Don't be put off by the fact they only have two types of bread ("light" and "dark"). The Italian is my favorite. The system can be confusing for the uninitiated. Order at the counter, then sit down and they'll bring your food out to you. If it's really busy, they'll call out the number on your ticket. You grab bottled and canned drinks out of the fridge yourself (beer included). When you're done you pay at the register. From what I can tell it's an honor system - you tell them what you had & what you grabbed out of the fridge and they ring you up.
This is a joint for regulars, it would take several visits to form a fair opinion but from the single sandwich visit I can say this place is excellent for Oak Ridge TN. I had an idea what I wanted before I got here but with a menu board and little time to choose I went with my preconceive choice cored beef Swiss cole slaw on pumpernickel with 1000 island dressing and minus the slaw that's what I got. It's business as usual deli here not too many special sandwiches and no home made salads. It's not bad but lack luster in my opinion since I visit so many extraordinary joints. Don't take this review as negative this place suits a cold cut deli sandwich need in this town. Locals flock here that has to say a lot. I would come back if I need a lunch sandwich but there are a few more places to try in town.
Unlike other places reviews from 5 years ago probably described the same experience. Reliably well made moderate size and price. One unusual aspect is you give an order, pick it up with a ticket, and pay when you are done eating. That shows confidence not only that their customers are honest but that they will like the food.

Reviews:
Loved this place. Interesting odd decor. Great variety of ice cream flavors, plus several unusual flavors of sorbet. Strawberry was my favorite. Green apple very refreshing. Servers were very pleasant and friendly.
I heart their ice cream. It's just that simple. You can expect there to be the usual favorites & one strange flavor. I always get the strange or unexpected flavor. Lavender ice cream in June is something go always look forward to. Here's to local, family owned businesses & amazing ice cream!
I had passed by the pink pig van several times on my strolls around the Jackson Square area. I finally decided that I needed to try the ice cream. I ordered a small death by chocolate ($2). The price was great, but the ice cream was only so-so. The ice cream had a weak chocolate flavor. The texture was gritty, not the creamy, smooth texture that I expected. One of my In addition to the ice cream, the store had a lot of interesting food and candy items. I was also surprised by their tea selection. I will definitely go back when I'm feeling the urge to experiment with tea.

Great food and desserts! Prices are reasonable. Best french fries ever!!
My absolute favorite restaurant in this area! I'm gradually working my way through the menu, but I also enjoy the "specials" written on the blackboard. If you are too stuffed from the delicious food get a slice of cake or a piece of their mile-high meringue pie to go! Some favorites include the chicken tenders, turkey and dressing, and the boneless catfish. Yum! I also like that you can pick the number of sides you want, 1 - 3, depending on your budget and/or how hungry you are. Don't even try to eat here on Friday night. So many regulars stop by that you won't get a table. They do offer food to go though and always supply plenty of fresh bread and butter. Don't miss this place, they are open every day except Sunday.
Dean's has daily specials that all sound delicious. I had the turkey with gravy and was very pleased; they used a minimal amount of gravy on the turkey while still making the turkey very flavorful. The sweet potato side dish comes topped with marshmallows and had too much added sugar for me, but southerners might enjoy it. Would I recommend this? Yes, but be careful if you order anything with added sugar

Hot Bagel

1155 Oak Ridge Tpke
Oak Ridge, 37830
Reviews:
Hot Bagel is both a local institution, and has some of the best bagels in East Tennessee. The owners are great, but always busy. They're great to talk to, but don't always come across as overly welcoming. It's not their fault though! They've been there since before 5am making the delicious bagels. While the bagels are great and all, be sure to get a bagel sandwich. Almost everything on the menu is good. The salami melt is particularly delicious. A lot of high schoolers come in for pizza bagels, which are exactly as they sound. They're coated in sauce and cheese. If you get one, ask for extra cheese. You may hate yourself, but boy is it worth it. The best thing is the breakfast bagel though. Get the sausage, egg, and cheese and ask for it to be on a blueberry bagel. It sounds a bit odd, but you can thank me later.
a MUST for bagel sandwiches for breakfast! Homemade bagels, great coffee, and easy going nature of the host.
I think this place has potential to a spot where I would come weekly. I was once here a long time ago and ordered their breakfast bagel, and I remember it was good. This time though, I had a chance to try out one of their Paninis. And well, lets say it was pretty good. I ordered the Gratzzi I believe was what it was called. In it was a good amount of food. Salami, Tomatoes, an italian dressing, mayo, onions, and well a pretty sizy portion of meat topped off in a ciabatta sort of bread. Long story short, for about $7-8 bucks, it was worth it. Especially for the size of the paninis as well as getting the amount of food that came in it. Great place for lunch as well as breakfast as they had a plethora of options of the type of bagels you could get. I think the next time I come here though I will definitely try out their Philly Cheesesteak.
