We used to hit up Ken's all the time during my Vandy tenure. I was sad to see that they lost their prime midtown location, but I was also happy that they moved closer to our home near Percy Priest. The ambiance at Ken's isn't what it used to be at the old place, but I came here for food not atmosphere. The move has also clearly affected their business. It was almost empty when we arrived at 7pm on a Saturday, which should be one of the peak dining times. By 8pm, we were the last customers in the restaurant. I'm sure the loss of the Vandy crowd really hurts. Since the prices here are pretty reasonable, we got a nice array of sushi to split: a Crunchy Shrimp roll, a Philly roll, a Dragon roll, and a Christian roll. Everything we had was absolutely delicious, as expected. My favorite was the Christian roll, which had a really interesting combination of crab tempura, cucumber, shrimp, cream cheese, avocado, bacon bits, and shrimp sauce. Yum!!! It's clear that Ken's Sushi really cares about the quality of their food. I hope the business picks up, because it's a really fantastic place.

Pad Thai is excellent and the sushi is fresh, the menu is extensive which offer many choices. I would recommend this hands down and the prices are reasonable.

This restaurant is amazing! The Raw fish is FRESH!!! The owner is very sweet and humble! He prepared our sushi and delivered them to our table thanking us personally, that is a huge win in my book! As you see we ordered as if we were feeding an entire army but it was just my husband an I. We always order huge amounts just to get a good taste for the food! And believe me it was no disappointment! This place is very moderate size, clean, and the food speaks for itself! I have found an amazing gem for sushi and I will be returning soon :-) thank you!!!

My wife and I tried it for the first time and the both of us agreed with being one of the better Sushi places we've been too in along time. We're so glad to have found this place being close to our house! Yeah! We thought they had a lot of rolls to choose from plus all the other Japanese food to choose from also a decent beer and sake list. Service was very helpful in picking out the right drink for the meal. We will defiantly keep coming back!

Great sushi, beat I've had in a long time. Would definitely go again if I'm ever back in Nashville. I might go back JUST for this sushi, actually

Great service, great food!! Also, if you like ice cream, don't forget to try their mochi ice cream!

I'm usually scared to death to eat sushi very away from an ocean coast but this place eased my mind. Excellent taste, moderate prices and very friendly people. I'm usually the skeptic like u may be right now but believe and just go do it. You won't be sorry!

This place was AWESOME!!!! I can not stress that enough. Everything from the fish cakes to the ramen to the mochi was perfect. Average price for good jappanese food. And the staff was amazing and the owner made the sushi. I will be back here as often as possible.

I came here for lunch on a lazy Saturday with one of my friends. I'm still digesting my tonkotsu and green tea ice cream as I write this, and I'm planning to go back as soon as I figure out better transportation from Vanderbilt since they moved away to such a remote area. Service was quick and friendly, and if you pay in cash, you'll actually receive 5% off your meal. I probably wouldn't have ordered dessert if we hadn't sat right next to the dessert menu board, but I'm glad I did. I got a huge portion of matcha ice cream that tasted exactly as I anticipated--crisp, herbal, and creamy. The portions are Ken's are a good size and decent for the money. I'd recommend grabbing a meal here even though it's a little out of the way!

Normally, I enjoy Ken's. Not so today. I waited about 10 minutes to be seated, requested a table and was seated at a booth instead. But it's not the booth that bothered me. What bothered me was the fact that, after we had been seated and received our drinks, we really didn't hear back from the waitress. We had to ask twice for a Coca Cola, and even after that, we had to ask for a pen to fill out the sushi card. Once she gave us the pen, we never saw her again. After waiting 30 minutes for the waitress to just come by and pick up our order, we paid for our one Coke and left. Bad service. Would not recommend.

Was a very nice, traditional Japanese restaurant. Sushi chef/ owner is friendly and from Osaka. He will make onigiri if you request it and the ramen is wonderful with a well-balanced broth. The location doesn't seem to match the quality of the food though and from the reviews I've read that is because of their move from Vendy. Pregnant currently so can't try the sushi but I am sure--from quality of everything else we ate--it would be spectacular. Hope they do well and it is definitely worth driving off the beaten path to get there!

Ken's Sushi is a great new addition to southeast Nashville. It's located in an old O'Charley's building with dark signage so it's kind of easy to miss. Try not to judge this book by its cover. We always order miso soup and several orders of different sushi to split between my husband and myself. Ken makes it in front of you where the bar used to be. The food is always on point. On another yelper's recommendation we tried the ramen soup and it was good. Ken has always come out to our table to ask if everything was good and to have a good rest of the day. Very nice guy. So if the sushi is so good, why rate it a 3 star? Well I'm not going to lie...the place does look a bit sketchy. It's not a big issue for me, but it does account for something. My main pet peeve is every single time we've gone here the server with the red hair is always on her phone and is very inattentive. My husband and I stood at the door for over 5 minutes with no other customers around waiting for her to look up from her phone to seat us. This is every. single. time. I'm guessing she's related to Ken because that has to be the only reason she still has a job. I even took the courtesy of taking a picture of her on her phone in hopes that someone from the restaurant (even possibly her) see this and tells her that customers should come before her phone. Put up some new signs and retrain that one server and Ken's Sushi would get a 5 star in my book! I genuinely hope that his business flourishes!

I was somewhat hesitant to go out of my way to drive to a restaurant that's slightly out of my way to Downtown Nashville, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food in this restaurant. My family ordered two bowls of ramen, a tonkatsu plate, two gyozas, two Melinda Rolls, the Shio Saba, the tempura bento box, and they were all fantastic! I was very pleased with the tonkatsu myself, very nicely fried, sauce was good. Sushi was prepared fresh too! The ramen could be better, but this isn't a specialty ramen place and I have quite a high standard for ramen, so I won't complain too much. The server forgot to take my order from the pantry, so she had the chef make a new order of tonkatsu plate for me. I was fine with that since the server honestly admitted it. Excellent service! I wish them the best of luck for their restaurant too.

My wife & I were in Nashville for a group event and had some free time to try a few local restaurants. First, we were attracted by the name and I fully planned to have sushi, which I did. My Japanese wife decided to have a bowl of ramen. This is my rating based on what I ate. The sushi was competitive with some of the better places we have tried. The service was really fast and server was very pleasant. My wife would likely have given a lower rating because she said the ramen was OK but not comparable to some of her favorite places such as in Chicago. But it is my Yelp account, and I am usually generous in my reviews. Overall it was a good experience.

Super friendly staff! And great service! I had the Katsudon, which was pretty good. Next time I go, I'll have to try out the sushi! !

I think I may need to possibly eat inside instead of doing takeout because by the time I reached home my food was slightly warm :(. The sushi was excellent I had the crunchy shrimp roll with shrimp tempura udon soup. $10 for that for the lunch special yes please baby. The noodles were super soft and the sushi was tasty and crunchy, but the broth was kind of eh. I also ordered the pork ramen. Eating like I'm eating for two...pretty much. My pork ramen very salty and I was disappointed because my 1..I repeat ONE thin strip of pork for my ramen tasted like it was a cold cut. Not sure why, but I wasn't too satisfied with that. I still think I'll try this place again maybe it'll be a better experience, but if not I've definitely had better in jersey for the same price.

Aah! The old Ken's Sushi that was once located on Division St by Vanderbilt for 14 years! They had to move due to a new development currently under construction. They are now at what used to be O'Charley's on Murfreesboro Rd. The owner Ken Ohno is still the same old Ken. Affordable sushi, tempura and bento boxes at its best. They have added Japanese ramen to the menu. Competition has arrived to the Nashville sushi scene. Ken remains my go-to locally owned sushi and more. Just ask for personable Ken. He'll take care of you.

Ken's had been my go to sushi place in Nashville for the last decade. At first I was sad to see that they were being pushed our of their midtown location, but I was thrilled to find out they moved much closer to my home in Donelson. The new larger place is cleaner and a much nicer atmosphere than the old place. They also have ramen and a lunch buffet now. My girlfriend and I both had the ramen on our first trip to the new place and it was excellent. It might have just been the new digs, but the sushi seemed better than ever. Prices are good too, and they've got a daily happy hour which is always a plus. I highly recommend taking the trip out if you're an old fan of Ken's. And if you live in the area, you've got a fantastic new option for Japanese food.

Came here for a Valentine's dinner date with my husband because we love sushi and were in the area. I really liked my sushi, it was delicious. I ordered the Melinda roll and the snow crab roll. The Melinda roll is awesome and BIG, very filling. The snow crab was not as good but still GOOD and yummy. Our dinner was overall satisfactory. The only thing we didn't like was the feel of the restaurant. It felt more like a bar diner. Not as.. Inviting? It was uncomfortable for us to eat with our infant son because of the tables/space, not great for a stroller. But the food was a super thumbs up, especially if you love sushi. Maybe they'll improve the inside over time :) one more thing I have to say.. The raw sushi tasted incredible.

Ken's Sushi is such a hidden jewel. My wife and I order take out sushi here all the time and just recently actually sat down and ate. We were both very pleased with our meals and I would argue that Ken's sushi is some of the best in town. I really hope that their business continues to grow and that they become really successful. We will continue to be regulars here and love their sushi!

Ken spends more money on the type of salmon etc so he gets better quality fish. The new restaurant is very nice compared to the old location, He has a bunch of 10 dollar lunch specials and a simple lunch buffet for 11.95. The sushi rice is the freshest I have had, If you like rolls they are better than average. If you like nigiri or shashimi OMG you can really tell the quality of fish is amazing. If you like crab shrimp or freshwater eel its the same as anywhere, He has sea eel OMG , not everyone has this and to me it is so much better and fresher than regular eel. Its prepared the same way but has a sea taste to it and to me tastes way fresher.

This place was really tasty and you could tell that all the ingredients were fresh. My wife and I went on a quiet weekday night and we really enjoyed it. Support this guy and go eat some tasty sushi.

This place is delicious!! My husband and I both got bento boxes and everything we had was incredible! We were in town visiting family and found this place on yelp. We took a chance on it because it got 5 stars, and I'm sooo glad we did! Food was phenomenal and the staff was great. We'll definitely make this a regular stop when we're in town.

We went for lunch one day a while ago. I was not impressed. The building was really shady. The decor and feel were not comfortable or inviting at all. The employees were nice enough but they missed one of the rolls I ordered. Our food was OK overall but nothing special. I did not like my sushi but one of my coworkers liked his rice bowl. Another had ramen which he said was just OK. All in all it was not a good experience at all.

I have called several Japanese restaurants in the Nashville area to find out which ones serve Hiyashi Chuuka. I have only found 3 and this one is the first one I tried. It was perfect for a hot summer day which we are getting too many of in Tennessee. It alone was the only reason I drove more than an hour to try and was worth it. After that I had to try my staple sushi and takoyaki. My staple sushi order is escolar and yellow tail nigiri. Tbh the yellowtail was the reason I subtracted 1 star. It was a bit too oily and Hamachi is a difficult sushi to mess up. I had to use both soy sauce and wasabi to like it. This is very much a rarity. The escolar which is suppose to be oily and soft lived up to its flavor but was a bit too chewy. I ended up using soy sauce on it too. After realizing that the sushi was a B quality at best I decided to try the takoyaki which in Tennessee will never be as good as California or New York. Knowing this they did a fine job on it. Fresh ingredients are the key to good sushi and of course proper technique in making sushi rice. Their sushi rice appeared to only be short grain which is authentic. Because the quality of the sashimi was average, it was difficult to determine how well the sushi rice was prepared. I would have to order Tamago to get a better assessment. They do have box sushi which I will definitely try next time. The service was great and the people are friendly. They do have my favorite ginjo sake brand (sho chiku bai) but not the type of sake I like the best. I was driving too much that day to risk trying their sake, but I am excited about my next visit. I will definitely be back. Forgot to mention the price. It was more than reasonable. I got everything for less than 21 bucks and considering I have had takoyaki orders that were 15 this was a very pleasant surprise.

Fantastic! I've frequented many Nashville sushi joints and this one is, by far, my new favorite! Decent prices, 2 for 1 Sake, and AMAZING SUSHI! Try it!

This place is legit - nothing fancy, needs some work inside and out regarding the restaurant, but the food is authentic and YUMMY. After living in Japan for 2 years, we always are on the lookout for places like this. One the ways we knew it was legit before we even say down was seeing/hearing people of Japanese descent eating inside... Curry, Katsudon, and gyoza were on point :)

Life has changed for Kens Sushi. It was probably the worst sushi restaurant that I have been to in a very long time. The sushi is served on rice that is starchy and ice cold. I originally went to Kens because of the Yelp reviews. It was mentioned about the remarkable lunch buffet, that no longer exists. I went here to enjoy a nice lunch and was simply unable to. It was no wonder in the middle of a weekday lunch that there were 4 tables of diners, period. The building is shady, there is a banner strung from the face of the building. I would imagine with the lack of decor, atmosphere and cleanliness, the elimination of the lunch buffet and the absolutely sad sushi, that Kens will not be around too much longer. A sad thing from, what it sounds like Kens once was, in its strength, is no longer.

This is by far the best Japanese place in the Nashville metro area. Food is amazing, service is amazing, the owner is really nice and always stops by to say hello, etc. This is authentic Japanese food and always fresh. The kitsune udon is the best I've had since moving to Tennessee. My fiance and I have never had a bad experience and every dish we've tried has been great. I am sad that they moved, I think the new location is hurting them (it's been kind of empty when we've gone lately) so I hope they stay afloat or move again. The prices are very reasonable, too. There are some decent Japanese places around but many are expensive. Ken's is affordable AND better quality...we always feel like we're getting a steal with how good the food is. We would honestly go every weekend if it wasn't a 30+ min drive for us (we're in Murfreesboro). Definitely check it out, even if it's a bit of a drive. I promise it's worth it!

Our Ken in a new spot, far to go but no one knows how to stuff an Inari like Ken and coupled with a two for one sake I'm in heaven. Good value and good cheer, I miss the old spot but the rabbit picture still hangs proudly.

So Ken's Sushi was the closest sushi to our hotel near the airport. From the outside, I was a little nervous BUT I must say the warm customer service and great sushi made up for it. The sushi was very fresh tasting. And the rice was seasoned perfectly. We had the spicy tuna, red dragon, "nasty nate" and a california. They were all very tasty and the chef used just the right amount of sauce. The staff (including Ken) were super nice and friendly which made me want to come back for that "everyone knows your name" feeling. Good job. (Oh and the prices were GREAT!!!!)

My mom was in town last night so we decided to try this place for dinner since it continues to come up in conversation with people. The restaurant was quiet and comfortable. Our waitress was very attentive and genuinely pleasant. She suggested a few items and we ordered quite a bit. The Miranda and Vandy rolls were to die for. Salmon sashimi was fresh. Dumplings were great. Cold Kirin. The only complaint that I have is that it's not closer to me in Donelson and that they didn't have as many rolls to choose from as I expected. I will definitely be making the drive back to this place regularly! The friendly service and amazing food sold us. The ginger dressing was also fresh and to die for, which is important at a Japanese restaurant!!

I know it must have been tough to make the quick move from Vandy (near my work) to Murfreesboro Rd (near my home) but somehow they've maintained the same quality and great prices I had come to expect. Their new location was an O'Charleys and most recently an outpost for Boltons next door to Horus Kabab near the corner of Murfreesboro and East Thompson Lane. Great sushi and ramen are difficult to find in this part of town. And the switch from an eat-out-every-meal Vandy crowd to this hidden spot will be difficult. For the sake my own selfish sushi needs PLEASE VISIT KENS SUSHI!

I love Ken's. We go all of the time, the service is always awesome. Great environment and everyone that works there is so nice. Red dragon roll is delicious. Haven't had a roll there I didn't like. Also lunch deals are so cheap.

lunch buffet was on point for the price. $12 and so much to choose from! sushi, pork gyoza, chicken terryaki, so much more and custard for desert.

I can tell that Ken cares about quality. Definitely fresh salmon and tuna in his sushi rolls and the rice was prepared perfectly. I am anxious to try some of the other Japanese menu offerings such as the pork or BBQ beef rice bowls as well as their ramen dishes. Great location only a few miles from the airport among other ethnic restaurants I frequent on Murfreesboro Pike. I was not able to experience the lunch buffet as it has been discontinued but the menu has more than enough options and price ranges to keep me happy. I will return soon and often. It's not fancy but neither a hole-in-the-wall in large part because of the helpful and knowledgeable waitstaff that I had and the nice low key music playing over the house system. I recognized the beautiful Eva Cassidy version of "Fields of Gold" after a few soothing instrumentals. What's not to like about that atmosphere especially when it accompanies good food?
