Food here is really good and flavorful. I have tried the voodoo chicken and the drunken chicken, both served over rice. They will add more spice on request. Dishes range from $6.50 to $8.00 and the serving size will leave you satisfied. Highly recommended for lunch. I can walk to the location inside the Peabody Market so I will be a regular.

Stopped by today for lunch and was really blown away. The voodoo chicken is outstanding. And it's easy to get in and out, unlike their other location in the arcade. Great job!

Very good. The roux is excellent, and don't be fooled by the absence of okra in the gumbo! It's there, it's just not in whole pieces. Never been a gumbo fan before, but this place changed my mind.

Just tried this place for the first time today and was very impressed. The guy who was working was very nice and offered to let me try several samples of their different dishes, which were all very flavorful in their own way. I ended up liking the voodoo chicken best, so I ordered that over rice. It was delicious and a little bit spicy (in a good way). The portions were good for the $6.99 lunch price too. Also, I eat gluten-free, so it was nice to see several items labeled as GF right on the menu. Also, just FYI, it's located in an urban food court of sorts along with Quiznos and Nuvo Burrito at the corner of 4th and Peabody. There is a small parking lot behind the building and some street parking nearby. I would definitely recommend this place for a good, fast Cajun/creole meal near downtown and I look forward to trying more of their menu items next time I'm in the neighborhood.

The cuisine here is Creole/Cajun. The ingredients are pre-made and assembled to order. Whoa the gumbo is spicy and full of flavor. This is a tasty fast food alternative to burger & fries. The meals are fairly priced $$. There is a private parking lot located on the east side of the building. Parking downtown Nashville not easy or free.

Okay - so, I'm not a big fast food fan, but if I'm going to do fast food, this is where I'm gonna go. J Gumbo is a little hard to find, in an indoor food court-type building a stroll away from Broadway, but it's worth the hunt. I liken it to the southern version of Chipotle, with plenty of southern favorites like jambalaya, crawfish etoufee and voodoo chicken - ready to serve, but still fresh. I had the Creole Ratatouille and Voodoo Chicken, which both came served in one huge bowl. The flavors were great and the voodoo chicken was supremely spicy - just the way I like it. I had a cornbread muffin, which I probably wouldn't get again, but I just love combining that sweetness with the spiciness of Cajun food. If you're in a pinch for time or you're starving and can't wait for restaurant service, this is a great place to quell your hunger.
