One of my favorite lunch spots downtown. Favorite sandwiches are the 2 step club, muffelatta, and pastrami. Soup is great and love the chicken and dumplings. Hands down the best pasta salad I ever had. Sorry Mom.

  • Jeremy D.

Total crap. Anyone who gave this place a 4 star review has never been to a real deli. Pre sliced lunch meats do not make a real deli. pastrami can with Lettuce, tomato, cheese and mustard without asking for any of that crap. totally not a real deli. they don't even have real iced tea. Lame.

  • Kristy T.

The pasta salad is amazing! I order it by the pound & serve at family get togethers. My favorite sandwich is the California Club, love their gumbo & chicken & rice soups, Greek salad, you can't go wrong here!

  • Andria C.

We came here hopeful due to all the great reviews but we weren't impressed. They did have a vegetarian option, which is great since I'm very picky about what deli meat I eat, but it wasn't great. We got a side of their potato salad and weren't impressed at all. It was clean inside and staff were nice but for quality of sandwiches, it's not there.

Excellent sandwich place. The Philadelphia Royal, heated is unbelievable. It is all I ever order and is great if you like an Italian sub. Staff is also great!

Love. Seriously some of the best sammiches and pasta salad around! Owners and staff are very friendly and super helpful!

  • Jason K.

I had the chef salad, it was ok had to pick out a few piece of iceberg because I was not a fan of the way they looked but I am picky. I also prefer better greens, iceberg has no nutritional value and this salad is mostly lettuce. Not a enough tomatoes and cucumber. I order oil and was a little surprised to have a rosemary oil which has a nice kick to it. There is a decent amount of ham and turkey. For $5.50 the proportion size is reasonable. Not something I get on the reg but good deal for being downtown and in a hurry. The staff is friendly, they gave me some awesome bread sticks. I also had a cup of buffalo chicken soup, it is a cheese based soup, celery, and chicken. It was not bad I would have preferred it to be a little spicier. only $2.50 for a coup of soup again very reasonable fair pricing. I will go back here and tell ya how the sandwiches taste at a latter date!

Phillip's is a neighborhood Deli with much much more than the usual deli offerings. I had never been to Phillip's and I walked in craving a good turkey club sandwich, but I left stuffed/ satisfied from one of Phillip's famous laded baked potatoes and a small soup. I don't know why I ordered the huge potato amalgamation of cheese, bacon, butter, and sour cream, but it just felt right! And it was! Very tasty and filling, plus the price is right at under $4.00. I like this place a lot, it has a very downtown city feel, which you don't always get in Nashville, as many delis and restaurants are located on multi lane roads.

Great, quick, fresh deli. Short hours so check when you're going to make sure they are open. Large deli menu for a small place. Tables inside their store and in the Arcade aisleway to eat at.

  • David G.

Deli Dave's. As Wayne & Garth would say in the presence of Aerosmith, I'm truly not worthy. This modest deli situated on the corner of the Arcade in downtown Nashville is by far the best place to pick up a sandwich on your lunch break. If the line of businessmen extending out the door doesn't tell you this place is good, then the happy customers walking out will. DeliDave's serves up delicious fare using fresh ingredients and lots of them. They feature an extensive menu for a typical downtown sub shop and decent pricing considering that you can't pay less than $10 for lunch in this area. If you find yourself hankering for deli sub with all the fixings, head on down to DeliDave's. Get there early though to beat the crowd!

There are hits and misses in the Arcade, where something as simple as a sandwich can be a little bit risky. You'll find all manner of funky and quirky there. Sometimes it's the good kind and sometimes it's the processed cheese food, wilted lettuce kind. This is not at all the case at DeliDave's (formerly Phillips' Delicatessen) at the 5th avenue Arcade entrance. DeliDave's is neither quirky nor funky, it's just consistently better than good. DeliDave's interior is friendly and clean, but plain. The menu is pretty straight forward: sandwiches, salads, soup, baked potatoes, potato and pasta salads and the odd deviled egg. There's nothing really remarkable about this place, but, well, isn't there? I don't know what's so amazing about a fresh Greek salad, maybe it's the cute little packet of thin Italian bread sticks they give you, but something about the way they make 'em here makes them great. DeliDave's potato salad is pretty much the best ever--it's not complicated in flavor, it's just good. Every time. The service is great, too. Even when they are completely slammed, and they often are at lunch, the line always keeps moving. This is a great, reliable lunch spot if you work downtown. You'll get a better than good lunch here, always. No risk.

Kind of the go-to deli for downtown Nashville. There is nothing particularly original or out of the ordinary about Phillips, they just do everything very well. The sandwiches are pretty standard, but they always have top quality ingredients and excellent value. The soups and baked potatoes are great for a change of pace and the chef's salad is the best one downtown. You may not be blown away, but you will certainly not be disappointed, exactly what you want for a midweek lunch.

Fresh Decent seating Not a NY deli though I suppose good for TN standars very friendly workers and managers

    (2)
  • Jake X.

These are the most typical sandwiches you can get, particularly if you get them catered. The bread is basic supermarket bread, and not even the best supermarket bread--cheap supermarket bread. The ham and turkey looks like it came straight from a slimy Oscar Meyer pre-sliced package. The Reuben I had there was not bad, but I think Deli Dave's is generally overpriced for what you get.

    (2)
  • David M.

Its ok. Typical Deli food. Inside is a little messy and staff arent the most friendliest. Food can be bland.

  • Robin S.

I haven't worked in downtown Nashville in over a year, but I still go back to Phillip's for lunch from time to time. I don't know why I like it so much. I always get the turkey with lettuce, cheese, and tomato, with their good dressing (maybe that's it?) soaking it. And get it toasted. Yum, my mouth is watering just writing about it. Phillip's isn't an out of the ordinary sandwich place--I mean, there are only so many ways to make a sub. But, something about it makes it better than all the chains, and better than Sub Stop a few miles away. Maybe it's that I have so many good memories of downtown lunches--as in, I was always SO excited that it was lunch time and I could get out of the office that I could have been eating dirt and I would have thought it was good. That could be it. I have been to Phillip's as recently as a few weeks ago though, and i went around 12:30 to try to avoid the early lunch rush. There was still a line, but it moved quickly. A few tables in the place, but I also enjoy taking my food outside to one of the tables in the plaza of the old SunTrust building (what is it now? Sad that now that I don't work down there I still call the buildings by their old names!) on a nice day. If you are new to the area and work downtown, go to the Arcade and check out Phillip's! Not new to the area but have never given it a shot? Try it out! Not your ordinary sandwich!

  • Caitlin D.

Phillips is one of the best options for the downtown working lunch crowd. The sandwiches are HUGE. My boss can't even eat a whole Muffalletta, he has to order a half, and that even usually leaves leftovers. I personally am a fanatic for the breakfast bagels. While it's not on the menu, I order an everything bagel with egg, cheese and avocado. It's only $3. Perfecto!

  • David S.

When I worked downtown, Phillip's was kind of my default place to go. If I wasn't in the mood for anything else, I knew I could go to Phillip's and get something tasty. They have daily sandwich specials. I would usually get those or a great turkey reuben. Be sure to try their pasta salad which isn't fancy but is very tasty. Lots of people get takeout, but there's plenty of seating inside. You can sit at the window and watch everyone on the street which can be a very entertaining way to spend your lunch hour. The owner and staff are very friendly and know how to make a great sandwich. There's definitely a crowd at lunchtime, but the line moves pretty fast even if it is out the door. A great sandwich shop. Nothing too fancy, but that's alright with me.

Phillip's is just a great deli. This is one of my favorite places to eat in the Arcade. Phillip's always has a line out the door during lunch but I never mind waiting, and it only takes a few minutes. They have a great selection of deli sandwiches and salads. I always get the salad. The house salad is huge and has a little bit of ham and turkey sliced on top. You can get your choice of dressing, I love their house dressing. It is a simple oil and vinegar dressing but they add very tasty herbs like parsley, basil, and oregano. And the best part, the house salad is only $4.50. incredibly cheap.

OK, I'm back. This food is soooo yummy! Earlier I said the lunch line was long and this was my first lunch experience with them. The wait was only like 5 - 10 minutes I guess. I was so eager to get my food I forgot to ck the clock. I had the Texas Melt w/out bacon and a side of fruit! LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED Every single Bit!. Mmmmm! I'm so ready to close my eyes and go to sleep right now. The Texas Melt is on toasted Sourdough with letttuce, tomato, mayo, and this awesome awesome seasoned grilled chicken. I don't know what they put on this chicken or perhaps it was the mayo I have been missing so much (I'm on a no mayo diet :0(...) But mmm mmm mm great sandwich. And ladies the sandwich is really big enough to share with someone you love or dont like. But if you're like me and dont really care for sharing your food...Go head and eat the whole thing! Or save half for that 2:30 crash. You'll be non-the-fatter LOL! OH yeah! The service is great and friendly.

  • Emily Y.

Ok, I'm basing my 4 star rating on their pasta salad alone. Since I discovered this place about 3 weeks ago, I've already been back about 4 times for just the pasta salad. On my last trip, actually, I tried the Philadelphia Royal--it was ok. Deli meats were fresh, but I sound it to be too oily. Others who frequent this dountown join (which is likewise quite packed during the lunch hour--but lines moves decently quickly), also rave about the potato salad, the loaded baked potatoes, the various and generous salad (read: green leafy type) concoctions, and in general like the sandwhiches too. Try the pasta salad.

Phillips offers an outstanding breakfast or lunch option for those located in the Downtown Nashville Area. Located within the arcade on 5th ave. between Church and Union. They're breakfast specials included loaded Hot bagel sandwiches with egg + cheese + and your choice of meat plus sauteed peppers and onions for around $3 bucks! As well don't miss Phillips famous Deli Sandwiches, loaded with meat and cheese on a variety of breads or toast. Corporate Catering is also an option for those businesses in the downtown area.
