Farmer’s Family Restaurant Menu

It's loud. The service was terrible. The place is filthy. It's the same canned/frozen mass produced pseudo food you can get at the supermarket. And the biggest reason for one star - the gravy tastes like it is powdered mix made with water. Epic colossal fail.

This is a great place to eat with children. A variety of food from liver and onions to catfish to fried chicken! I believe children eat for 1.99 which is great for families on a budget. My Dad LOVES this place cause of the turnip greens and fried green tomatoes! They also have a salad bar. We have a running joke in our family about Ryan's ( We've always called it 1 Star) Farmers is waaaay better and they even have live gospel/Christian music on occasion. A great family restaurant!

This place has it all. Roast Beef and ham freshly carved, mashed taters and gravy, fried chicken, barbecue chicken, cabbage, green beans, mac and cheese, salad bar, desert bar, everything. Family type atmosphere and very reasonable prices. Clean and great service. Was a hit with the family!

I love this place. Good southern buffet style food. The salad bar has great options as well. I will go there for the chicken tenders alone. It's the only place in the area like it. The staff is friendly and the food is kept turned over and fresh. I have yet to be disappointed.

Ok. So the saying is farm fresh vegetables right? Never had vegetables that tasted like that out of the fields. I grew up on a farm in Kentucky. There is nothing fresh about this place. It maybe is a glorified Ryan's minus the cockroaches now. If it stays up then it will be a Ryan's. Owner is a jackass that talks down to his employees. Great Christian guy huh? Save your money and go to a gas station hotdog wheel. Much better.

CHAOS AND DISORDER! We arrived around 6 pm and didnt have to wait long at all for a table even tho there was a large party already in progress and our inexperienced server was nice enough but still obviously very green. The buffet looked as though it had been descended upon by vultures and picked clean on my first trip, it took two more to finally see the paltry little "steak" (but no steak knives) on the buffet. My biggest issue was the way the dining room was being run or should I say NOT being run. One poor cashier was all alone from the time we came in till just before we left, only getting some help after the line to check out was snaking well into the dining area (I counted 25 people at that point). Finally, a server was pulled from her section to help out, leaving her tables to be cared for by the other servers. I never saw a manger once, the staff was nice but were left to their own devices with no support from on high. The dining room was unorganized, chaotic and leaderless. Bad Managers!

There's much better options around here. The stuff here is just too bland. DOesn't taste like anything.

Went for breakfast. Where else in the world serves fried bologna??? What a great variety, and they'll even make you an omelet to order. The service was also quite good. I'm not a fan of buffets at all, but I'll definitely be going back for more at breakfast!

Not sure why this place doesn't get the love it deserves. It's not high class. You shouldn't expect it to be. You come here because: 1) you want to eat your face off; 2) you love fried southern food; and/or 3) you're having a bad week and you need to feel better. I love the fried catfish. It's always crispy, never greasy, and filling.

This place has so much potential but needs changes. You cannot have servers running the place. STOP SINGING HAPPY BIRTHDAY. The 70s are over. PROS: There are enough seats in the restaurant. The food is generally edible and there is a large selection of hot and cold foods. Desserts are always nice and fresh. CONS: Vastly understaffed and no management is apparent on the premises. I don't want to see kitchen workers sitting at tables. Not enough servers, hostesses, cashiers, bussers. The drink station is in the back somewhere. The servers are always dirty because they have to carry dishes all over the place or leave them on open tables and both are kinda gross. Hire more servers, another hostess and train her to be a cashier in busy times. Add a busser with a cart to take the dishes into the back. Keep the place clean and seat people quickly and you can eliminate the worst parts of the Farmers experience.

I went to this restaurant on Father's Day, and my father liked it (he likes buffets). Everyone else in our group wasn't that impressed, however. The food was regular buffet fare, and some of it tasted like it was meant for those in elder homes. When my group ordered our drinks, we were informed that most of the drinks we ordered were no longer available--lemonade, fruit punch, tea, and Sierra Mist. Many of the plates, bowls, and silverware that were placed out for the customers were dirty. At one point, there were no plates and silverware to be had. I noted that many servers and kitchen staff seemed overwhelmed by the crowd, and was informed that the restaurant had never experienced a crowd of that size. I have no idea how true that is because I had never even heard of Farmer's prior to going that day. The staff was pretty nice, and tried to accommodate everyone. I had a nice time with my family despite how I felt about the food, until the bill came. Once I saw the bill I nearly fell over! I spent about $20 ($16 for the food, and $5 for tip), just for my food alone! There are several buffets around Nashville that are cheaper and of the same quality. So, if you are in Murfreesboro, and like buffets, then I would say this is a decent place to go. The food is about the same as Golden Corrals, just with a more Southern flare. Otherwise, keep your money in your pocket.

Oh, my ... I don't know where to begin. Everything here is awesome ... from the salads to the entrees and veggies to the deserts. Good service, too. It's 100 miles round-trip for me to eat here, but I do it at least once a week - sometimes 2 or 3.

We come here every Saturday for breakfast and occasionally for lunch. We have them make omelets for us for breakfast which are good. Lunchtime we like the catfish, the salad bar is good as well as the dessert bar. We know some of the people that work here. Have no complaints about the service. On the down side, there appears to be an issue with their dishwasher, either the machine or the operator. Sometimes you have to keep picking up plates until you find one without food still stuck on it. Plates, bowls, same problem and its like that all the time. I saw in another review that somebody stated that they water down the hot sauce on the tables. Didn't think about it until I saw this comment. Then I noticed that yes, the hot sauce seems kind of watery. Seems silly where a buffet restaurant which is a trademark for wasted food, would try to save some money on the hot sauce.

Crap and more crap. Reminds me of the old cafeterias run just for old people. The food is under seasoned. Salad bar lacking and none of it seems very clean. Very few healthy selections and the place packs out with people that have eaten themselves into disability. I avoid this place usually but had a friend that wanted to go. He ate 5 bites and was over it. Theres so much better buffetwise out there.

Very Beautiful Woodwork and the desert bar was great, that is about all I can say positive about Farmer's. I have heard many great reviews and decided to experience for myself. The food is dry, I assume from the heat lamps. The tables and chairs are way to close together. I literally had to walk 3 tables over just to get to the food bar. I was hit in the back a few times due to people trying to get through. The service was not much better. The restaurant was extremely loud and chaotic. I will not be returning.

Let's face it, as far as buffets go the only real reason most people go is for the selection and variety. I'm not a fan of buffets in general but if you must go to one in Murfreesboro than this would be your place. I'm not sure what kind of pricing most people expect but if you are eating all you can eat then this place is no higher than their competitors in the Boro or Nashville for that matter. The food was hot and fresh but nothing special. The quality of meats and vegetables seem to be of higher grade than nearby chain buffets but was seriously lacking in seasoning. The only thing that was really good was the fried and baked chicken along with the homemade rolls. The option for breakfast at lunch time was also plus in my book. The service was just okay. Our server was really nice but me and my friend's drinks were never refilled the whole time we were eating. In their defense, it looked like there were only two servers for the whole restaurant during a super busy lunch hour. These ladies seemed to be overworked trying to take care of the customers and keeping the place clean so that was easily forgiven. Farmers was just okay. Unfortunately there is nothing special or unique but I would probably choose them over Ryan's or Golden Corral if a buffet place was on my radar for dinner.

The food was average buffet (nothing to write home about). The service was OK, but there weren't enough busboys. Between each course we had to bring our dirty dishes to a vacant table to make sure our table would be clear. Also, the $11.99/person was too expensive for what we got. Maybe if we were 300 lbs each and went back 6 or 7 times it would be worth it, but not my thin family. The desert bar was a mess and everything did NOT look appetizing. All in all, I'd rather eat at Jeff's downtown.

Weny to this place for the first and likely ladt time. It is a notch up from a Golden Correl but that is not a compliment. The food was alright but not great and nothing seemed hand made. The thing that really took away from the experience was the crazy loud, crowded and chaotic atmosphere. Could not hear my wife sitting across from me and just getting in was unorganized and was too expensive. If they ever go to a new bigger and better location I may try it again but was just underwhelmed

Great place for the price.. Food and staff were friendly/courteous. We liked the way they had a blessing and talking about what was on the buffet before serving dinner. Great atmosphere for taking the family for dinner. Food was fresh and hot. Place was clean and so were the bathrooms. We will be back to dine here again.

Lol what is this? Terrible food but its a buffet so you won't go hungry. I'd rather eat waffle house.

I've been coming here regularly for quite a while and have never bothered to write a Yelp review. I'm not really sure why, so I figured I'd throw my pen at the paper tonight. To be honest, I was completely surprised to see what low ratings this place has received. As tempted as I am to critique the critiques, everyone is entitled to their opinion so I'll simply offer mine. The service: Ever server I've had here has been very friendly and talkative, as if you're a guest coming in to their home. This is a buffet restaurant, so "service" really just amounts to the prompt refilling of one's drinks. My better half and I go here every couple of weeks or so, and at no point have our cups ever "runneth dry", so to speak. For the most part, our server stays on top of it. When our server is attending another table, other servers who notice our drinks are running low come over to our table and refill them. This place even passes my own personal metric by which I measure service, which I like to call the "tea-test". I'm one of those 'weirdos' who prefers their iced tea unsweetened, which, since moving to the South, has made me enough of an oddity at restaurants that I could probably open a sideshow act based upon it. Servers at many restaurants here refill my tea glass with the sweet stuff so often that I don't even raise a stink about it, and chalk it up to the fact that I'm an anomaly, and refilling a glass with sweet tea is simply a muscle-memory level habit for them. This has even happened at restaurants here where dinner for two equals a mortgage payment for many people. The servers at Farmers restaurant have never once poured the wrong tea into my glass, which shows an attention to patrons that many more expensive restaurants lack. This might not mean much to some people, but it means a lot to me. The food: Once again, this place is a buffet. If you want five star cuisine, go elsewhere. If you want your meal served with a side of pretentiousness that you can brag to your acquaintances or coworkers about, go elsewhere. If you want food made to your exact specifications, go elsewhere. If you want a plate full of delicious Southern comfort food, then go to Farmers. During breakfast they offer eggs and omelettes cooked to order, and all manner of accompaniments including amazing biscuits and an assortment of breakfast meats (with turkey versions for all of them). For lunch and dinner you can expect to see typical Southern offerings of assorted beans, greens, squash, and other veggies. Friday and Saturday dinners there bring assortments of seafood (Southern fried, of course). It's all tasty, and I can't think of anything there that I've had that I found offensive in flavor. I'm the first to admit I'm a food snob, and anyone who knows me is quick to classify me as such, but I check that at the door when I come here. I don't come to Farmers for a world class tasting experience, I come here for a platefull of good Southern comfort food and friendly service. That's what they do; they do it well, and they do so with a smile on their face. I come here any time I need a fix for simple comfort food, and I'd suggest anyone else who desires the same does the same.

The missus and I ate there Saturday around 2:30, and we're not going back! Except for the salad and dessert bar, most all the hot food was really greasy. We've never had baked chicken that was as greasy as fried chicken. What's up with that? I don't normally waste food, but I could not eat the plate of hot food and settled on a salad and some cherry cobbler... $8.00 for a salad and a small bowl of cobbler, I don't think so! The service was mediocre. If buffet is your cup of tea, kick this place to the curb and go to Shoney's... seriously!

Second experience as bad as the first...there won't be any more visits to Farmer's Family Restaurant. Our first trip was for breakfast, and first impression was off to a good start. We were greeted warmly at the front, and then seated in "no man's land". We saw at least 4 different servers before someone asked to take our drink order. It quickly became apparent our table didn't really belong to anyone's section. We continued to be ignored for the duration of our meal. We saw other people getting personalized service, but not us. There was even discussion about how easy it would be to get up and leave...no one would know. Today's second chance experience was different but equally as bad if not worse. Seated by the same hostess at a table for four in the middle of an area we really couldn't fit. Hard to pull the chairs out from the table to sit down. Continuously bumped from the back and side from other tables way too close. Server was nice and took our drink order. The buffet was beaten up pretty bad from the busy lunch rush. There were several food containers that weren't filled during our entire visit. The mashed potatoes were watery and runny...the fried chicken was filled with pieces no one wanted...the beef stroganoff tasted like beef right out of a can...anyway I could go on and on. After the second trip to the buffet, we returned to our table...that had been CLEARED OFF! No drinks, no flatware...and the waitress actually accused us of seating ourselves. She brought us more drinks and we continued our lunch commenting on all the things we would do differently if we were the owners. The table next to us, had a similar conversation about leaving with out paying (they waited almost 20 minutes for their bill). It was time for dessert, and as large as the dessert area is, the only pie selection was lemon meringue. The banana pudding was right out of can...the fake cheese cake was even bad for clearly fake. The congestion at the front door also provided commentary. People trying to come in and people trying to pay all tangled up. You really have to want to pay, they make it a struggle just to check out. Why not be like other national chain buffets that all make you pay on your way in. I bet they'd see a dramatic bump in sales!! Overall...just unpleasant experiences both trips. Nothing will make it worth going back...not even free coupons! No thank you.

Their food is NOT fresh or homemade. It is all canned foods and mass produced. The service is terrible and seems like someone is always bumping the table to get to the bar. I do not recommend this restaurant.

I give it 4 stars because our server, Brenda, is nothing short of spectacular! The food was mediocre, the selection was good, although I didn't find chicken tenders anywhere. The dessert bar is very nice to. All in all, I don't think I would go back except for Brenda.

Just passing by and went to this restaurant. Would never go again. Not only does this place not meet sanitation standard but the waitstaff was not helpful. To start, we waited to be seated because the hostess and a server were arguing over something. We had eight people in our group and they sat us at a table for six..it only got better from there. The floors were so slippery and wet we had to scoot our feet to avoid slipping. Then when we got back to the table with our food (no variety) and finished, the server did not take our plates until we were about to walk out the door. We had also asked about a senior discount for my grandmother...which our server had no clue about. The next time our waitress came by we asked about a discount for my 11yr old sister...again no clue. When checking out we found out that the senior discount was 50cents (terrible) and the kids discount was half off. It also took a little while to check out (even though no one was in front of us) because there was no one to ring us out. In the end, this place is not worth the $11.99/person we paid for the cheapest buffet option (did not include seafood or steak).

I had my first and last experience at the Murfreesboro Famer's Family Restaurant this past Friday night. There was so much wrong with this place that I'm going to list the reasons on why I wouldn't return and/or recommend: (1) The restaurant was disgusting. Food was strewn all over the floor, in our chairs, and all over the serving areas. I found myself dodging food on the floor when walking to and from the buffet area. (2) The restaurant is so packed as far as seating and lack of waiting area. While waiting to be seated we were practically standing right on top of tables where people were trying to eat. The seating is way to close together. I wouldn't mind this if I weren't already grossed out about the lack of cleanliness. (3) The cleaning staff was also disgusting. The bus cart was gross. I witnessed a drop of mash potatoes fall off the cart and on to the floor. The employee didn't do anything about it, then again, why would he? He was cleaning tables with dirty rags. (4) For my meal, I tried the fried chicken, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, corn casserole, seafood medley, stuffing and okra. The fried chicken was so greasy, that was all I could taste in my first bite. Yuck! The mashed potatoes were from the box. The macaroni and cheese was also from the box and as runny as soup. The seafood medley, which I paid $3 more for because I thought I was getting the "seafood buffet" instead of the "country buffet", consisted of imitation crab meat, scallops and shrimp. It was not good. The stuffing was from the box and dry. The okra and corn casserole were fine. (5) I visited the buffet twice, once for the main course and once to try dessert. Both times, they ran out of plates. When the employee brought plates back out, they had standing water on them that patrons were trying to wipe off. Gross. So amongst the uncleanliness, less than good food, service and terrible seating; my experience was not pleasant nor appetizing. Don't waste your money here even though the buffet is only $10.99 for dinner. You pay for what you get and that's not much.

Good, cheap food about sums this place up. It's a $6.99 all you can eat buffet located in a strip mall. One thing I particularly liked is the fact that you can watch them prepare the food, which extends to a griddle at the end of the bar where a cook prepares corn fritters right in front of you. The staff is friendly, and the quality is a little better than what you'd expect at most buffets. If you don't mind fighting the crowds, it's a good place to have an early lunch on a Saturday morning after a late night out.

Farmer's is about what you'd expect from a $10 trough style restaurant. Let's start with the good - veggies were pretty good. Collard greens, Mac n cheese, & sweet potatoes were very good. Mashed potatoes were a little too lumpy but at least you know they're not instant. Fried shrimp was also good. Service was decent. When we got there they were out of plates, but they were rolling out a new cart as soon as I asked someone about them. The not so good - dirty. Tables were wiped off with reused clothes, food on floor, bathroom out of paper towels, some kind of flood/major spill near bathroom hall that was not being cleaned up. Buffet area looked ok but when I went for dessert this girl was wiping down area around it with a dripping wet washcloth and left the area way too wet. It was some kind if bleach water that I could smell but it turned me off to wanting dessert. She was being very reckless with the washcloth and IMO was too close too the food with this drippy, bleachy towel that she kept dipping in a basin. Seemed on par with a Waffle House, buffet style. Won't be back.

I've had lunch here about 5 times since they opened and each visit was pretty good. The seafood extravaganza on Fridays is worth the price! Give it a try!

I would give this place zero stars but it is not an option. Farmers completely missed the mark with this place. When we first entered the host, without even looking at us, barked I'll get with you in a minute. We were finally seated by another host who said feel free to 'hog out' at the buffet. Just the image I wanted were hogs at a trough eating slop before I started to eat. But the image fit. The food was all over the place and floating in grease. The service was horrible. After the bad mental image from the host we waited 15 minutes before we finally had to flag someone down for drinks. About this time the first host shoved the back of my chair almost tipping me over so he could get back up front. I finally had enough and had to walk out for a minute. When I returned I found my mom arguing with the cashier that we didn't eat anything and never got any service. She still insisted we pay the $20 and never offered an apology and even went as far to say she didn't care if we had a good time or would never come back. Definitely skip this place and go to a hog trough instead. Better food and better service would be found in the pig pen.

Next to Stones River Mall, large buffet Farmer's Family Restaurant is all you can eat for a reasonable price. It is similar in bufffet size and quality to Golden Corral but the employees at this one are friendlier. It's not a huge chain like the corral since it's locally owned and operated. When I went at lunchtime it was a little loud and crowded which is how most buffets are. The pork was more or less tender and the beans were firm like I like. Overall, it sure is good food at Farmer's. I couldn't believe the berry cobbler and the pecan pie and the pudding. The dessert bar is just too big and too tempting. Need blinders!
