This place may be a bit off the beaten path, but it is worth the 5 minute detour off I-24. Yes, it's a typical menu, but the food is delicious! The "from the grill" items are excellent. Try the molcajete for sure! Huge portions of steak, chicken, and shrimp in a hot stone bowl with hot salsa, grilled onions, bell peppers and shredded cheese. The service was great! The staff came by frequently and even stopped to chat with us about their restaurant and the family. They really seem to have pride in their restaurant. The place was clean and roomy. My friend and I were able to enjoy a great dinner and good talk without feeling like all the people around us could overhear our entire conversation. If you're on the road and need a rest stop, don't waste your time on a fast food joint. The service here was fast and it was nice to sit and enjoy an actual meal before gettng back on the road. And most people that are familiar with this portion of I-24 know that a stop at the top of Monteagle is usually a necessity! Give these people some business. You won't be sorry!

Good Mexican food, but nothing special. The bar is adjacent to the dining area, so it's very loud and rowdy - and this is a Tuesday evening. Not a place for a quiet meal, but the food is OK.

Nothing outstanding. Not terrible, either. Better than Taco Bell, not much creativity. As my friend said to me, "It's lunch." That's about it. I had a burrito. The chicken appeared fresh off the bone, so that's a plus. The staff is good, the atmosphere is okay. If you enjoy your company and temper your expectations, you'll have a pleasant experience.

I don't know why this place doesn't have better reviews-- it's a perfectly yummy Mexican joint. We ate here when we were in Sewanee on business for a few days. I thought the veggie fajitas were delicious. Great drinks, and free chips and salsa. Kind of slow service, but our waitress was really nice.

I wish I could write a better review for this place. Unfortunately, after receiving one of their ginormous margaritas (it must have been close to 32 ounces!), I was too obliterated to remember much about the food. What I do remember was "it didn't suck". I've had better, but Monteagle, Tennessee, did an admirable job of pulling together its entire Latino community (all 5 of them) to pass off a decent representation of Mexican food.

Normally we would have given a 4 star rating (5 should be for a place that is very special and rare), however I had to counter the other 2 reviews which must have been written before a change of ownership, management, or personnel, or something. My wife and I ate on a slow Saturday evening, and we were served very politely and promptly all along, prompt drink refills, etc. The menu is like every americanized Mexican restaraunt (98% of Mexican restaurants in the US not counting taquerias). Prices are reasonable. Food tasted great, not too greasy, etc. The best deal was the make your own combo: 2 items for 6.99, 3 for 7.99, includes beans and rice. Got beef tacos (great), beef chimichanga (great beef and tons of good cheese), relleno (great), and tamale (good). Not super authentic (very mild, especially the salsa--ask for the hotter one and put that all over your food), but tasty, clean, great service, good prices.

I was very unsatisfied with this place. A group of 4 of us showed up around 1:30pm on a very slow Monday. When we arrived, there was only one other table with people and a group that was at the front counter talking to what I believe was supposed to be our server. We waited 5 minutes before anyone brought our chips and salsa and took our drink order. 15 minutes later, we still hadn't received our drinks. We chose to try and stay since we were all really craving Mexican food after mountain biking in the area for most of the morning. As we continued to wait, our server was still at the front counter talking to his friends who were about to leave. Finally, we had enough and left started walking out. This got the attention of our server and he asked if we had got our drinks. We replied that we were leaving and he seemed as though it didn't faze him. I will probably never go back here again as the menu didn't have much on it (even for a mexican restaurant) and the service was horrible!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
