We were traveling to meet our daughter and selected exit 134 on I24 as the meeting place. Having time to burn until she arrived, my wife and drove around looking at the sights!!! And we found High Point!!! What a Wonderful place to have dinner!!! And in such an unexpected location. The Staff was great and the selections wonderful!! We will be back as we completely enjoyed our dinning experience!!!
Great service, classy atmosphere, and delicious food! I live in CA and while visiting relatives we stopped here for dinner, so glad that we did! My filet mignon with the grilled shrimp was amazing! Next time I visit TN I must return! Also the grilled pound cake dessert is a must try!
We eat here at least once a month. Every meal is excellent. A little gem on the mountain.

Five stars in Monteagle Tennessee?! Yes! Who would have thought? This place has great character and absolutely wonderful food. I had the Pulled Pork and Grits. Wonderful BBQ pulled pork with large bits of bacon, and onions on a bed of smooth, creamy, grits. My wife had the Shrimp Tacos - also outstanding. The place has a full bar, and about 60 bottled and canned beers from around the world, including my favorite, Dragon's Milk. This place is an absolute gem! If you are traveling through Tennessee and find yourself near Monteagle during meal-time - eat here!!
I had the shrimp and grits and they were very delicious!!! Wanted a side salad but I thought 5$ was a little much. Service was also a little slow.
Wonderful little gem. From soup, tortilla,to salads, Ed loved his wedge, to the spinach ravioli the meal was spot on. Service was good, friendly and knew his menu. Loved my red wine, but beer people will be excited over the choices for them. Did not go into the bar area, but will do that next time we are there. Thanks for a lovely dining experience.

Went to foster falls for the day and decided to eat so we stopped here. When we walked in the place had so many sauces. When We walked by the area they were cutting the meat up, a gentlemen offered us a sample of ribs, excellent all I can say. We had the buffet. Food was very fresh and really good. It reminded me of when my grandmother would cook when I was younger. Our waitress Tina was super nice. I will go back if I'm in the area again.
I wanted to like this place more. It was unusual, eclectic, and somewhat original in its presentation; but it was also filled with average food, awkward service, and sticky tables, bbq bottles, and chairs. I got the buffet in order to try everything but it all tasted like it looked... a little dull as if it had been sitting out for hours. The one exception was the surprisingly fresh salad bar. I feel like this place has the potential for 4 or even 5 stars if the wait staff was better trained, the tables and chairs more "clean," and the food more fresh and seasoned more carefully. Maybe they'd have more time to improve things if the menu wasn't so large with items that made very little sense given their restaurant's name. The menu was a reflection of their entire store filled with this and that like you were strolling past different booths at a flea market. All these tastes and flavors just don't come together here like it could.
Reading a couple of reviews posted, decided to check it out (nothing else around for breakfast other than the typical mc d's or waffle house) first off, the whole building is strange, took us a while to figure out where the restaurant was since the decor is quite heavy. Promptly seated they offered a buffet option that we decided to go ahead and try. Not bad, but when in Rome... Overall, it was just ok.

If you drive over the road for a living, this is a well known and long established China buffet restaurant. Huge parking lot for trucks, food is fresh and staff is very helpful and friendly. They don't speak a whole lot of English, but wait on you very quickly. They have the best and largest crab rangoon that I have ever had. If you are looking for a quick place to jump off I 24 and your in a truck. Here ya go. It doesn't look like much but the food is fresh and good.
I would agree with the previous reviewers about this buffet being an average Chinese buffet and that the outside is plain but the inside is well kept and clean. I will disagree with the staff not being friendly. That interaction goes both ways. I saw the waitress bring out several drinks and other supplies to people around me and I didn't hear one thank you from a patron. For me it's just a habit to say thank you. A couple of thank you's and a smile and I couldn't even drain my ice tea half way without an offer to fill it. I think the staff here are plenty friendly! However, there are a couple of things that are unique to this buffet that could be looked at as an advantage / disadvantage compared to other typical buffets. First off, they have lunch and dinner buffet. The difference is a few dollars around 7 for lunch and 10 for dinner, drink is another buck and a half. Dinner buffet is served all day Sunday, The difference for dinner is the addition of seafood. On the day I was here that included oyster and peel and eat shrimp, I don't recall seeing any crab. The buffet is pretty expansive with full salad bar, sushi, and dessert bar including hand dipped ice cream (6 flavors) and three counters of Chinese food offerings with the handful of American foods to draw in the kids. Now for the point that sets this apart from your local or small town Chinese buffet. It is right off the highway and very near a significant size truck stop. What does this mean? It means that you can come in here pretty much anytime they are open and there are going to be some serious eaters in here. I was worried that I was coming in at an off time and that the food would have been sitting there for a while. When I arrived my worries were laid to rest when i saw some heavy hitters sacrificing their personal health to make sure the food was turning over quick and I was going to get fresh food. For that thank you guys I am very thankful! The downside of course is that a restaurant has to make a profit right? Well I think because of the amount of food they serve they need to bump up the price to protect against some who can actually eat the amount/more than they spend.
Nothing special, might as well make the 25 minute trip to Manchester if you're headed that way

This place may be a bit off the beaten path, but it is worth the 5 minute detour off I-24. Yes, it's a typical menu, but the food is delicious! The "from the grill" items are excellent. Try the molcajete for sure! Huge portions of steak, chicken, and shrimp in a hot stone bowl with hot salsa, grilled onions, bell peppers and shredded cheese. The service was great! The staff came by frequently and even stopped to chat with us about their restaurant and the family. They really seem to have pride in their restaurant. The place was clean and roomy. My friend and I were able to enjoy a great dinner and good talk without feeling like all the people around us could overhear our entire conversation. If you're on the road and need a rest stop, don't waste your time on a fast food joint. The service here was fast and it was nice to sit and enjoy an actual meal before gettng back on the road. And most people that are familiar with this portion of I-24 know that a stop at the top of Monteagle is usually a necessity! Give these people some business. You won't be sorry!
Good Mexican food, but nothing special. The bar is adjacent to the dining area, so it's very loud and rowdy - and this is a Tuesday evening. Not a place for a quiet meal, but the food is OK.
Nothing outstanding. Not terrible, either. Better than Taco Bell, not much creativity. As my friend said to me, "It's lunch." That's about it. I had a burrito. The chicken appeared fresh off the bone, so that's a plus. The staff is good, the atmosphere is okay. If you enjoy your company and temper your expectations, you'll have a pleasant experience.

We dropped into Jim Oliver's Smoke House on the way back from Nashville. The huge country store is filled with interesting nick nacks and we probably spent about 20 minutes before dinner. It was very "Cracker Barrel" style, but didn't have the "mass production" feel. Very authentic and the staff was very personable. After we perused the store, we went into the dining area for dinner and live music (no cover). There's a full menu or a buffet, we opted for the buffet, but I believe I'll get something made to order next time. I hate to say anything bad about this place, but I'd like to view it as constructive criticism. In general, it looked like the food on the buffet needed to be refreshed more often or small portions put out initially. The best item on the buffet was the pulled pork, which was flavorful and very tender, but a little on the fatty side. Just to mention a few other items; the chicken was pretty good, the dressing was very dry, the squash casserole needed more flavor and was a bit watery. There was a pretty good selection in the cold salad area section. Very interesting dressings. At about 7:30, the "Persimmon Sisters" were passing through (from what I understand) and did a few impromptu songs for us. I believe they filmed that and might have it up on YouTube. They were very nice and we had fun with that. Nolan Neal followed, who is a song writer and did an outstanding job with an incredibly energetic show. He was the hit of the evening . . . actually the weekend . . . and his music is more than impressive. I'm definitely on the watch for Nolan Neal's music from now on. Nolan finished up (probably exhausted) around 9:45. Though the Smoke House web site lists Riley Jackson as the following act, she never showed up. A couple of other men (sorry, I didn't get their names) got up and everyone had a good time with them. We didn't ask why Jackson didn't play because it was very late and we were more than happy to have seen Neal play. All in all, the evening was outstanding.
Smokehouse Restaurant Review: Eh, the food wasnt that good and the service was extremely slow. Friendly, but really, really slow. I dont think I'd go back for the food. The shop, however, was fully stocked with all kinds of fun southern goodies and a super sweet cashier! If you're in town and looking for some good jams, hot sauces, sorghum molasses or old school type candies, this is the place for you.
Good breakfast. Yummy fried pie. Good iced tea. Friendly service.

Another great breakfast find. The food here is just absolutely awesome. It says country breakfast and that's exactly what it is the smoke sausage patties were the best. The blackberry jam was homemade and the sugar cured ham topped it off. Highly recommended for sure.
y'all. no. just no. the fried pickles are pretty good, and their little store when you first walk in is full of nostalgia purchases. but, it ends there. we arrived here (it's been a few weeks) on our way back to nashville from chattanooga; and i told the Mr. "no. no. mc. donalds." he didn't listen to me. he should have. he only gave this place one star. it's his own fault... i get a place being "laid-back"(as the owner has replied to the negative reviews), but that is not synonymous with "it's okay to have a constantly empty glass and have to walk up and ask for a refill yourself". the lady waiting on our table was sweet enough, but, this is not what she should be doing. forgotten orders, i actually think we were forgotten, and empty classes. she had plenty of time to socialize with the other staff though, at the expense of her tables' needs. also, as we were walking out, and paying for our meal, i'm pretty sure the owner, manager, whoever was making fun of her to us and the other employees. tacky. i still remind my husband of "that time you should have listened to me and gone to mc donald's over the smokehouse". 2 stars instead of 1 because i did like the fried pickles.
Great catfish and lots of dipping sauces made in house. I appreciated the large salad bar because it's hard to find veggies on the road. The attached store was quaint with great fudge. I'm glad I didn't have a chance to read the bad reviews on this place before I tried it for myself. To be fair, I can see why others might have found their buffet over cooked. I must have gotten the best stuff on the menu because I loved it and want to visit again.

Great place on the mountain. Good basic pasta dishes and Italian food with a relaxed family atmosphere. Good food and service as well. A good stop if you are traveling through or staying in Monteagle
The last trip proved to be less than desirable! The filet was tough and had lots of gristle. Sorry folks I want take the chance and go back!!
We were a party of three stopping for a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon off Interstate 24 en route from Kentucky to Chattanooga. We stopped at Papa Ron's hoping for a brief relaxed lunch. We were promptly seated and they took our drink order and our meal order. I ordered a cup of mushroom soup and a lettuce wedge salad. The other two in our party ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a prime rib sandwich au jus. The drinks were served fairly quickly and over a period of 45 minutes the drinks were refilled twice. The rolls were served and finally the cup of mushroom soup was served, barely warm, the sandwiches were never served and neither was the lettuce wedge salad. I tried to summon the busy waitress several times but could not get her attention. After sitting there an hour and ten minutes without the rest of the meal being served, and without further contact with the waitress, we paid the cashier for the soup, roll and drink explaining to her we had to give up on the food. The cashier did not seem to care, took the money without any apology whatsoever. This is not a review of the food since our meal (other than the mushroom soup) was never served, but rather a review of the service and the attitude of the waitress and the cashier with whom we had contact. Some who arrived later than we did appeared to be served. Would not recommend this place at all if you do not have an afternoon to wait around.
