The five-star rating, we are told, indicates "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" So yes, if the "it" is Shoney's, I believe this location is about as good as it is likely to get. I've visited twice in recent weeks and twice come away satisfied. On both occasions I've sampled the breakfast buffet ($7.29). That's a good price if you are hungry enough to cover it. Other breakfast eateries like Denny's or IHOP will charge you $5.99 or $6.99 for one generous plate of food, but at Shoney's you can have all you want. Both times I've also had coffee ($1.99) and a large milk ($1.99; only 2% milk fat is available). That's reasonable for a 'bottomless' cup of coffee, and the large milk is quite large. The food may not be special, but it was at least fresh when I visited, quite early. It focuses on breakfast staples: scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage patties, biscuits, hashed browned potatoes, and several other like items. There's cornbread sticks and mini-muffins, and also sausage gravy and a cheese sauce. Shoney's caters to families and welcomes kids, so you'd expect there'd be some familiar cereals like Froot Loops too, but I didn't notice any myself. I did notice the breakfast buffet also sports all the fixings for a dinner salad though, just in case the typical breakfast foods don't suit your diet. I must mention the pleasant and helpful service. The hostess made me feel welcome as soon as I walked in. Diane, my server last time, was also cheerful and welcoming and friendly, and attentive. I inquired about the pancakes, which I'd noticed previously seemed to be doled out sparingly, two at a time. There were none on my last visit. Diane explained they dry out and harden too quickly on the heated buffet. But, she volunteered, if I'd like some, she'd be happy to get some made for me. How many would I like, two? Sure, I said, that'd be fine. In scant minutes she brought a plate of not two but three to my table, fresh off the griddle. Plaudits to Diane and the rest of the staff I've encountered here as well. I've rarely enjoyed such friendly and helpful and attentive service at such breakfast eateries. For unfathomable reasons Shoney's does not want anyone to know when they are open. Such basic information is not available on their website, shoneys.com . Other independent sites which purport to offer nothing but such information said only "Hours may vary." I brought along a pen and notepad just so I could copy the information down from the entrance-door sign and report it here. But there was no entrance-door sign. Even Diane seemed unsure when I asked. "I want to say, 6 to 11?" she said, as if she were guessing. Since it was 6:15 am on a Sunday when I asked, that seems like a safe bet. But Diane wasn't going to swear to it, and I can't. I did notice at the register a sign telling me this location was owned by Shoney's of Knoxville, whose home location is the one on Parkside Drive. If you've questions or comments about this location, they may be heard more quickly if you direct them there. Seniors can receive a 10% discount. In addition, drivers for tour groups eat free.

I'm not even sure this deserves a star. The most incompetent wait staff and management. Customer service is completely nonexistent. Our waitress actually told us the reason why she'd not been to our table throughout dinner was because she was too busy. And when I pointed out a black hair in the tomatoes the employee manning the bar didn't remove the pan just the hair. Gag. I know it's Shoneys so my hopes weren't high however eye contact and a hi would have made the experience tolerable even with the hair. I still can't wrap my head around how ridiculously rude the management team was when I went to the counter to pay our bill. I got so tired of waiting to be noticed standing up there that I seriously considered a dine 'n dash.

Was not impressed at all. My wife and I go to several Shoneys and this by far the worse. Lettuce on the bar was brown and nothing but harts, cauliflower was wilted and brown, lettuce greens were mushy and bad, and the fish was black and greasy (had to send send it back).

I would only get the salad bar. It's ok for what it is.

Okay - first off - it's Shoney's. Secondly - this one is old and not near as good as most. Third, the wait staff may the least attentive in Knoxville.
