Meh. Maybe this place had a heyday, but it must have been awhile ago. I've been here once and got delivery once. The only plus was the late night delivery. Besides that, the food was just okay and I didn't trust the cleanliness of the store. Now that there's other burger joints on the strip I'd pass on this place.

Can't say you've been to Knoxville without eating here or at Sam and Andy's. We ate here before a football game yesterday. Food was good but you really don't come here for 5 Star cuisine. You just got to go!

Wasn't impressed at all. I used to eat there almost everyday when I was at ut. went there last year and again this year. Both times were bad experiences. Gus is not there anymore, the people working there now don't care at all!! They don't seem worried about what the customer thinks, kinda rude, on the phone all the time, act like they're doing you a favor making your sandwich. Very sad and disappointing, I would give it no stars at all but gave one for the old times and Gus. Not sure if he's still around or what but I would definitely never go there again. Gus if you're reading this you need a manager there or at least someone who cares about the place. Good luck!

I like this place but it is not as good as Sam & Andy's in Farragut. Gus (the grumpy older man behind the counter, his name really isn't Gus, we just always called him that), likes to put a drunk tax on your food if he thinks you have been drinking. For example, a normal sandwich we"ll say turkey on dark bread with an order of fries should be around $8, well when he puts the drunk tax on you it ends up being more like $18. Sometimes you notice and sometimes you don't. Just make sure you don't seem buzzed when you go in there. I have many memories of eating sandwiches in there and the one that I remember that was absolutely terrible was the chicken parmesan. Everything else I have tried has been quite tasty. I still would not give it 4 or 5 stars though.

Absolutely love this place! Anytime we go to Tennessee, we will go out of our way to stop here for a sandwich. They steam them and it is by far the best sandwich I have ever had! I usually get the roast beef and sharp cheddar, but the turkey is great too, as are others we have had. It's near the University of Tennessee's campus and there's a couple bookstores nearby that we walk to afterwards to walk off our meal. Such a wonderful place.

The is the first restaurant review that I've ever written so I'm clearly passionate about my experience. When my sis was in college at UT, we frequented this establishment. The food was always good. Recently, I was visiting K-town and decided to p/u some food for myself and a few others. I got 3 grilled chicken sandwiches, 1 chicken tender meal, and 1 drink for ~$43.00; thus, it was pricey. I wasnn't concerned when charged for the food because I don't mind to pay for quality. However, the quality of the food was rather poor. I was highly disappointed. With so many other restaurants on the strip, I would recommend going somewhere else unless it's late night and you really don't care what the food taste like anyways.

On every college campus, there's a burger/sandwich place that's a mainstay. Gus's is just that. There are only two things to get here, a steamed sandwich or a burger. Sure, they have other stuff, but just skip it. The steamed sandwiches are awesome. With a great bread, good meats, and well cooked, they're all quite good. Same with the hamburgers. Be sure to get fries with it. The fries are crazy good. The inside is the epitome of UT tradition, which is really fun. Sentimentality would give this place a five, but honestly, a four is more realistic. Just don't go on gameday; the line is out the door and it's impossible to get food. If you want a late night bite near campus, this is a great place to go.

Burger as good as I remember when I was a college kid. Pastrami is pretty good too. Every college campus needs a Gus's.

A mainstay to the UT students. A great place to go have a great steamed sandwich or cheeseburger. Some places near campus you just have to go to, well this is one of those that is tradition to the core.

If you want deli food or have a craving for deep fried fare, look no further than Gus's. They have the best fried mushrooms in town. Everything is made to order, so be careful to let the fried food cool before you eat it. I've definitely burnt my mouth here before! I LOVE the steamed deli turkey on dark bread. The French fries and fried pickles are also wonderful. The customer service is lacking...you'll leave remembering the gruff personas of what seem to be Northern transplants. All in all though, it's reasonably priced and a GREAT late night meal. Just watch out for the somewhat questionable health scores...

I absolutely love this place. They are open late which is convenient on campus. The food is great and best of all it is family run. When I walk in they literally ask if I want my "usual"..... I think that is SO cool. Love this place!

I used to hit up Gus's a lot when I was a student here in the '80s. It does have a lot of local charm, with all the UT and Greek memorabilia that survived the fire several years ago. But now that Gus isn't there anymore, it just looks like an ex that you used to love who has barely survived hard times. The owners really need to understand that just because people are willing to pay for cheap, quick, no-frills food doesn't mean you can ignore the entire experience. EVERYTHING needs attention, from the jerry-rigged bathrooms to the layout. Nowadays I have a kid at UT, and I only eat at Gus's because my husband insists we visit. However, last weekend they screwed up his sandwich, which has NEVER happened before. Meat ... cheese...bread. It's not hard, but somehow they messed it up. So they may have lost a diehard fan. I certainly thought twice about coming back as I sat at a table facing a mostly-empty display case that made me understand why they failed a health department review. The owners don't seem like the type to read online reviews, but I sincerely hope they put some effort into making the place a tad more enjoyable for those who used to love it.

Decent, if that, burgers. Be careful what you order, workers are very rude and snooty. THEY DONT GIVE WATER CUPS. Come on people. What if it had been a hot summer day? They claimed it was because people filled it up with soda however it wasn't busy when I ordered and they could've easily watched me fill it with water. They chose to be jerks. Will not return

With the refrigerators of bottled beverages and beer singles that line the walls, this place reminds me initially of a gas station...so that's what I took the deli counter to be - the kind that's found in gas stations - open late with cheap, trashy food...well, it basically lives up to that expectation, save for the one undesirable exception that it's more than double the price of gas station food. $8-10 for a sandwich...really??? My boyfriend's club sandwich didn't even come with bacon. No good times for us!

Sinfully greasy, but worth every calorie. The price is a little high for the food quality, but they have to pay the high rent for that location. If your ever in Knoxville for a game you have to check out Gus's for a greasy snack...

I have always thought that Gus's did a steamed sandwich better than anybody, including Sam & Andy's, Vic & Bill's, Nixon's...

Gus' is the best late night food you can get. It's greasy, bad for you, but soooooo good! I usually get the cheeseburger or reuben! Highly recommend it. The fries are awesome too!
