Great beer selection, nice atmosphere, friendly service, and even good food. Plus, board games! Even with it being a smoking bar, the smoke isn't bad at all. When I went with my girlfriend, who pretty much starts dying everywhere if someone is smoking near her, she didn't notice it at all. Plus, being able to vape inside is always a bonus.

Interesting bar... I came here for a Mac & Cheese contest! Let's just say, the Mac & Cheese was pretty good. It seemed like a fun bar, and I'm definitely not saying that it's a bad place to go. There's a ton of board games that I think you could just spend hours playing with your friends. A good selection of beer, but I do wish that there was a menu. (I didn't really see one.) The worst part of this place for me was...well you can smoke here. Hooray for smokers though! Just me personally, I'm not really into cigarette smoke, so that put me off completely. If they dropped the smoking, I would definitely see myself being a patronage. This place is definitely small, but surprisingly a good amount of seating. My friends and I got a nice comfortable booth and got settled in pretty well. Let's just say this bar isn't your ordinary particular sports bar. It's more a place to hang out with friends and play board games. Lets just say... There was a UT Basketball game playing, and the TV was showing a Jaws Marathon and Star Trek. Yes, Star Trek. Inner Nerds are jumping for joy! And there's absolutely nothing wrong with it. I'm a nerd myself. The question I ask myself is, nerds who smoke? Interesting concept.

In TN for a work trip and went to grab a beer with a coworker. Walked into this recommended place and got slammed by the stench of smoke. Apparently, it is still legal to smoke at indoor public places in TN. Even so, you might think about the ethical issues of sharing your poison of choice with others who don't have the choice. My choice? Back out the door.

Before deciding on the Green Tavern ask your self this question! Are you going here to Eat or to drink? I would not recommend if your interest is to dine! Menu was on a chalk board! With only 4 items in all, the bratwurst was nothing special, the kraut on the brat was tasty, it was served with chips only. Beer on other hand, well there were several selections I think 18 in all and they were reasonably priced as well. Even though there was smoking at this establishment the air quality was not bad, air filtration system was doing good! Service was quick and staff was polite!

When I met a friend here last night, the first thing I said was "What is UP with you and bars in dying shopping centres?!" He just grinned at me, and I think I know why. This is a really GOOD bar. The beer is cheap, the service is both fast and friendly, it's clean (if smoky - WTF is up with smoking in bars still being allowed in this town?) Not great, but solidly good. And they have darts!

A great place if you love craft beer, hearty home cooked food, and general nerdiness. They have a big shelf filled with board games and having viewings of all the new episodes of Doctor Who and The Walking Dead. Stop in and say hi to Jeff and Anja. Grab a pint and a brat or whatever deliciousness Anja has concocted that night. No dancing, no singing, and no sports!

This place is amazing. The beer is cheap, the food is amazing and the beer challenges are awesome. The first night I walked into this joint everyone was wearing viking helmets. I quickly found out it's part of the 2nd of 3 drinking challenges in this place. They've got 3 tv's and they always have good scifi or horror movies on them. The owners and employee are awesome and fun to talk with once they get to know you and the clientele isn't normal bar folks. Anja, one of the owners) said it best when she told us "This is a nerd bar." I've had lots of awesome conversations with other nerdy folks here and I've drug my laptop in to do my homework, and even got some tutoring while drinking a cold one. You really can't beat this place if you're looking for something different.

My husband and I have been "bar homeless" since The Spot closed years ago. A friend made mention of Green's Tavern & we decided to go check them out. We didn't have high hopes because all the bars we'd been to have just been an annoyance & big let down. All that changed as soon as we walked through the door. The set up is very comfy and laid back. Couches up at the front, a smattering of tables, & awesome booths along the left. We were greeted by Anja & Jeff. For those that frequented Union Jack's years ago, you would recognize them. I loved the ambiance. I loved the fact that you can smoke inside. I loved the juke box, they have a fine selection of tunes. Most of all, I liked the people. It's very rare to find a bar that has a Cheers feel to it. Anja was fun to talk with. Her cooking...it is amazing! Their food selection isn't like normal bar fare of fried crap & junk. It's seriously delicious home cooked meals for cheap! Last night was beef & barley soup, we had gotten there about 8:30 & the soup had just finished up. YUM is all I can say. If you love a laid back atmosphere surrounded by good people & good food, definitely check them out. They are a hidden gem in Knoxville.

Green's Tavern is hard to find and it's probably for the best. It's located in an old strip mall next to a magic shop. The bar is very dimly lit which is how most pubs are built but this is so dim it's to the point of total blackout. Inside its very smoky and it smells terrible I could actually smell the bar before we got in there. As far as service is concerned there are two people that I'm aware of that work there. One is a very friendly German lady. She is very accommodating and one of the nicest people you will meet. The other is a guy named Jeff. Jeff has the personality of a dish rag. He is very rude to customers. I actually remembered Jeff from another bar where he was fired for being rude. He berated customers for tips if he didn't find them adequate. I at one point worked in the food industry and you should never do that. He wants huge tips for what? Handing you a beer across the bar? He didn't even serve food nor would he bring the beers to the table. The night we were at Green's they were having a mac and cheese contest. While people were casting votes Jeff was yelling orders at patrons on how to vote. He also yelled at customers telling them they weren't voting correctly. Moving on, the beer is ok there but they have no clue how to pour Guinness. So if you want very unfriendly service and ok beer in a stinky hole go to Green's Tavern. If you want to go in an actual nice tavern or pub go to Crown and Goose or Jig and Reel. Try Irish Times or Union Jacks but don't waste your time here.
