This place has some nice margarita and food specials! This place could be seen as not authentic Mexican food. They have spoon bread... its like soft sweet corn bread as one of their side dish options, and it is WONDERFUL!!!

Omg do NOT eat here! My friend and I ate here this past Saturday (5/2/15) - I got the pick two combo and chose a chicken enchilada and a chicken tamale with rice and refried beans. She got the steak fajita with rice and refried beans. Not only was the service horrible and the food sub-par, but I ended up with food poisoning! It's now Monday and I'm still sick in the bed. Avoid this place AT ALL COSTS! Trust me on this one

My 5 year old was served CONTAMINATED FOOD and our service was VERY POOR! My family of 4 traveled through Knoxville on a day trip and stopped in to dine. We lived in Knoxville before and have enjoyed this location many times. However, this time was vastly different from all others. We arrived for an early dinner right at 5pm. Our waitress (Brittany, according to our ticket) took our orders as usual. Around 5:30 pm, we were asked our order again by the general manager and a hostess at separate times. We were told our waitress quit suddenly and left. I then noticed the other 6 tables had not received their food orders either, yet they were seated before us. Finally, 45 min after we placed our order, our food came out. However, my son's hamburger was chopped all to pieces. There was barely any meat to cover the bun. I asked the (new) waitress if this was how their kid burgers were served. She seemed stunned over the appearance too. She returned the burger for the kitchen staff to cook another. One of the cooks returned to deliver the new burger. My son ate it happily while we finished our meal. The general manager brought our check with the burger taken off and our check discounted by 50% (his choice). We paid and left. This morning, my son woke up complaining of a stomach ache and cramping. He then vomited the burger that he ingested 14 hours before. His symptoms match what the FDA describes as "food poisoning." He cannot keep down any food or liquids. (Please note that my son also has special needs and is unable to communicate if something tastes "funny" or is in pain.) We were already aggravated at the lack of customer service and organization at the restaurant. However, the contamination of a child's meal that we asked to remake, whether intentional or not, is INEXCUSABLE!!!

Terrible service, mediocre food. Been coming here for yrs. Going downhill at a high rate of speed. Good luck ever seeing a manager. Past few times have been a nightmare. You can't run a restaurant on a shoe string budget. That's a fact! Save your money people, so not worth the time and aggravation.

We love the food here. Great authentic and inviting atmosphere. The only issue is the service. Every time we done here it takes 2 hours minimum. Waitresses are absent and don't come by to check on food. We waiting 20 minutes for chips before the meal.

This was undoubtedly the worst service I've had in over a year, and I eat out on average 4-5 times per week. Went last night for dinner and sat there for 15 mins before the hostess actually can back to our table to get our drinks...We then waited another 10 min after the hostess brought us chips n salsa...mind you this isn't even prime dinner time and the place (nor the bar area) wasn't even half full. When I finally went to the hostess stand to ask who was assigned to our table, the hostess walked over to the waitress assigned and told her we were wanting to place our order. The waitress...who had literally walked by our table several times without even acknowledging us, told the hostess, "well I can't right now, it'll be about 5 minutes." Are you kidding me lady? You only have three 4 top tables (close together) and you can't take another two top within 25 min of us being seated??? Ridiculous! That's when I asked to speak to Management. The poor hostess was very apologetic the whole time. Another 10 min went by and of course no manager ever talked to us, even after she went to the kitchen to find him. At that point, we got up (still hungry) and now very frustrated and left. I will NEVER dine at this establishment again!

We generally like this place, so this rating is for a bad encounter. Wife ordered a margarita and it was awful, tasted like syrup and mix and that's it, waiter was nice and took it back to bar, brought it back and waited to make sure it was good. The drink was almost clear and was almost total tequila, nasty. wife sent it back again and said she'd just stick with water. we thought that was the end of it, but the manager came over and was rude and confrontational, telling us she probably needed it weaker and that he had watched the guy make it. we've had drinks there before and they've never been that bad. We had to keep telling him we didn't want another one, took him a bit to get the hint. anyways, food also looked and tasted bland and presentation was like someone just threw it on the plate and didn't give a crap. usually it's tasty and looks nice. positive note, our waiter, Aaron, was very nice, helpful, and attentive. maybe Sunday night just isn't the day to go the this place I guess.

I used to love Don Pablo's when they were located everywhere. I was so excited to go here and pretty much dragged my family halfway across Knoxville to go eat here for..not so great food. I was so disappointed. I remember it being a lively fun place. The wait staff was very nice so points for that but for food? Not so muhc.

This is a chain restaurant and the food is about what you would expect from any other mid-range Mexican chain restaurant. El Chico is better and El Phoenix is much better. Atmosphere is sort of fun and the food isn't bad. BUT - it is still a Mexican chain restaurant.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
