The staff here was SUPER friendly and helpful! The ice cream is amazing! There were so many dessert options, but the hot fudge cake was so yummy and unique. It's made with soft devil's food cake instead of the typical thick brownie. The soft serve ice cream was some of the best I've ever had. We all want to come back again tomorrow to try something else!
Stopped here for dessert only, so I can't comment on the food. We couldn't pick just one so we ordered a hot fudge cake, banana split, and hot fudge sundae. All three were delish! The food menu consisted of hamburgers, hot dogs, etc. Everything looked good! I'd say this place is similar to DQ but slightly better. Added an additional star because of the nostalgic old time diner feel.
Stopped here on a whim after walking around downtown Jonesborough. The staff was friendly and funny. I didn't know what I wanted, so I told the cashier to give me something chocolatey. I got a vanilla soft serve in a cup drenched in chocolate syrup. It was definitely way too much syrup for my taste, but with tax it came to $1.10 so I can't complain! The vanilla soft serve was really good, though! Didn't try anything else besides that "sundae". The place looked pretty dirty, so I didn't stay long, but it was amusing little stop!

Main Street Cafe & Catering

117 W Main St

Reviews:
This Bistro type establishment on the Main Street of Jonesborough (hence the name), is a great place for a lunch. If you have read some of my recent reviews, you will know that I was recently in Jonesborough for a family event, and had opportunity to dine in several places. My two sisters and I came here for lunch after prepping for my folks' 50th wedding anniversary party. Main Street Cafe was doing the catering, so we decided to sample their offerings. We were pleasantly pleased. Upon walking in you are greeted with a large cooler case displaying their various desserts and bottled beverages. You order and pay at the counter then you find a seat. This was a Friday afternoon and the place was busy, however we were able to find a table. (they also offer dining al fresco with several tables outside) Our orders were brought within minutes of settling at our table and were all delicious. Price point is a little on the higher side for this town, but well worth the extra shekels for a fine meal. Like many places in Jonesborough's downtown, hours and days of operation are somewhat limited, so be sure to call ahead to ensure they are open.
Great spot for lunch. Quick service and really good deals. Half sandwich, chips and a salad for less than 7 bucks.
Main Street has great food. Love their poppy seed dressing. Never had a bad meal there. Have used them for catering and they do an excellent job.

Vega’s Fiesta Mexican Restaurant

1976 Hwy 11 E

Reviews:
Family owned. Great service. Best carnitas and burritos we've ever had. No margaritas but several beers on tap. Desserts are incredible. Found our new favorite mexican place.
I visited Vegas Fiesta for two reasons. First, it rated quite high in Yelp. And second my wife was not able to join me on this trip. My wife does not particularly enjoy Mexican food, although she will go to one to humor me. So I went. It was Sunday evening about 6:30 PM. The restaurant was medium full. The sound level peaked at 91db, loud 2 1/2 year old. Mostly at 60db which is good. Chips and salsa came right after I was seated. Salsa is canned and the chips are bagged. Minus 1/2 point. I ordered steak fajitas and a Dos Eques. See photos. The beer was very good. So were the fajitas which came with refried beans, rice and shredded lettuce and guacamole. These were all fresh, not canned. The fajitas consisted of steak pieces, tomatoes, sweet red and green peppers and onions. These were well sautéed and served very hot on a metal pan. They were not very spicy, but I have come to expect this in rural white America. The Mexican hot sauce served on the table corrected this nicely. I did not partake of dessert. Total tab was $16.96 with $4 Dos Eques. Great buy, and pretty good food.
Vega's Fiesta is, for now, a well-kept local secret. It's still new, but all the people I know that eat here just love it. Almost everyone that works here is related somehow and they have a definite pride in their food, service, hospitality, and cakes. The beer is ice cold and they don't have liquor because of the antiquated blue laws around here. Don't miss: 1) the "special guacamole" it's very good 2) ice cold beer in a frosted mug 3) best chile rellenos around [ask for them with enchilada sauce, trust me on this] 4) if you like it hot order Pescada Diabla, it's tilapia with a habanero and extra spicy enchilada sauce. It's not on the menu yet, but Camarones [shrimp] Diablos are on the new menus. The cakes are amazing...especially the pistachio. Mexican cake is different. The 5-milk cake and chocolate cake are really heavy, but not super sweet. Plenty of parking, super friendly staff, and consistently good food make this a place worth coming back to. So we do. About once a week!

The Black Olive

Holy smokes real Italian in jones borough tn. Who knew? Gotta say best Italian Food I've had since I moved here from Philadelphia. Garlic knots stuffed with mozzarella were amazing. I had shrimp and chicken in spicy blush sauce with penne. So good. Penne wasn't mushy gooey stuff so often served down here. She had chicken Marsala full of mushrooms and a rich gravy. Salad came topped with fresh shredded mazarella instead of sprinkles of canned cheese. For dessert was the most amazing tiramisu ever had. Light and not overpowering with coffee. Gotta say it's an 80 mile drive from where I live but I definitely plan on making the driv
I was testifying in the Jonesborough courthouse, and we only had 50 minutes for lunch. The Black Olive was close, and the menu, which I had read at the Americinn Hotel, looked pretty good. We sat down and were promptly served. I choose the bow tie pasta with chicken and a white sauce. Really amazing luncheon entree. The sauce was some of the best I have had in the United States and in Italy. Just the right mixture of garlic and cream. The pasta was amazingly al dente. Considering this was a luncheon special, it was spectacular. The serving sizes are huge. I could only finish 1/2. I only had time for the $6.99 luncheon entree, so I cannot comment on other dishes, nor their evening fare. However, based upon this experience I would expect the evening fare to be equally spectacular
I had the lunch lasagna and let me just tell you that the lasagna is worth a trip to Jonesborough! Caesar salad is OK. It's kinda smallish and the croutons are those tiny store-bought ones today. Not a $2.99 Caesar. But, wait! There's more! BYOB wine. Great, free, fast, ample WIFI. The seating situation isn't great...one room is big and open with booths and tables/chairs. The smaller room is a little better for me; cozier that is. But not intimate or private., Maybe it's better at night with the lights dimmed. Cool old couple next to me joked that she was going to start bringing a cushion for him since he chose the padded bench instead of a wood chair. Today, I shit you not, Jerry Springer was on the TV. At least it wasn't biased political news and the sound was off, so the '60s music was enjoyable instead. Turn the lights down, put on some Frank or Deano, bring a bottle of red...this has potential. The neighbors tell me the proprietor also has a restaurant in Elizabethton, TN. This is, so far, unconfirmed. Wait....server confirms...Primo's. The patio looks promising.

Loved their pizza, but we live beyond their delivery range. When I asked if I could meet them at a public location between them and our house I was told "that's illegal" and "someone could rob us." Um, pretty much every pizza delivery place will deliver to a gas station or store if they don't deliver all the way to your house. If you are that frightened about being robbed then you shouldn't deliver at all. Ridiculous. I will be calling Luke's.
Loved this place very good pizza reasonable prices! (: fast service the tv was a bit loud though.
Good pizza and cheesebread but also love their salad. Eat at the one in Erwin often.

The Dining Room

Reviews:
Stopped at the place after a recommendation from a store owner. For a late lunch on a Saturday we were the only ones there (seemed like we were the only ones downtown!). The food was decent, and our server was very nice. Not sure if I'd go back, but there really isn't anything else downtown.
First time visiting this small historic town and decided to try The Dining Room. I ordered the Saturday special which was a crab cake sandwich with a fried green tomatoe. This was at best mediocre. My wife got the Chipotle chicken sandwich and she felt about the same. The service was good. We feel like we will probably not visit this place again. I think we may have just picked the wrong sandwiches for our taste.
What a gem! This restaurant has some real and unexpected Latino treats. It isn't 100% Cuban - the owners are Italian and (I think) Venezuelan. The Cuban bread is perfect, and I highly recommend the sides (yucca, tostones, etc). The only thing I would suggest is to get a tropi chop with beans on the side because they give you a TON of beans and you may not want that many mixed in your dish. All of the tropi chops are so great... even though you would never see chimicurri, salsa and cilantro on top if you were actually in Cuba. Love it here! Very fancy and the absolute cleanest restaurant I've been to in a long time. There isn't even dust in the air vents! You could probably eat off the floor. There are four seating areas, downstairs (a little loud and crowded but good views of the street), by the bar, a beautiful patio with garden, and a roomy upstairs has a lot of seating.

1 Chinese Restaurant

900 E Jackson Blvd
Jonesborough, 37659
Reviews:
We went here on a weekday just before noon and got the buffet lunch to go. I was dubious initially because Jonesborough TN isn't exactly famous for its Chinese take-out, but we were pleasantly surprised. The food seemed freshly prepared, wasn't greasy, wasn't oversauced, and tasted good. We had Mushroom Chicken, Broccoli Beef, skewered meat, chow mein, fried rice, and steamed rice. The buffet had a good variety of options and the price was great. They even had some cream-filled puff pastries for dessert. I don't know if those pastries were made in house, but at least they tasted good and weren't sickly sweet and greasy like so much of the food I've tasted in TN. The host was also very polite and accommodating despite the language barrier. My only criticism would be that the buffet had french fries and jello. Those items don't belong in a Chinese restaurant. Also, there was no egg in the fried rice and that is usually my favorite part. We will return for the buffet for sure.
No. 1 is mediocre, somewhat consistent, and in a great location. They will freshen up the buffet if you ask and their chicken-on-a-stick is very good. Why can't these places have HOT chinese mustard? Ordering on the phone is an adventure due to the language barrier unless you get one of the kids (young, elementary school age) to take your oder LOL. UPDATE: so the buffet is only on weekends now. Dang, that sucks. Update to the update. Lunch buffet is back, although scaled down and a shadow if its former self. Despite the convenience, I'll probably choose the Chinese buffets in JC unless No.1 gets a little mute outside sparkle, shine, and variety.

Poor poor service. Got home with only half of my order. Called and spoke to McDonald's shift manager who said it would be waiting, if I would come back and pick it up. Got there and order was still wrong. Manager argued with receipt, after I drove all the way back to pick up what I had paid for. Will not be going back to this location. Rude, unprofessional staff.
Im sorry to say that over a 3 year period, we kept hoping it would get better - it never did. Wrong food, missing food and cold food. Would love to provide dates but they fail to provide receipts too.
