I have been in Jackson, TN for a week and this is now my go to place. The salsa bar is a nice touch if you done in. The salsas are excellent! I have had burritos, tacos, and all the sides and it is all delicious! You know it is authentic when a majority of the customers are Hispanic! The place has a nice fun and relaxing atmosphere and outdoor seating. I will eat here anytime I work in Jackson!

It was ok. I would not recommend the beef, though. My husband got shredded beef and I got carne as ads. Mine was cubes of beef that tasted boiled. His tasted like pot roast. Neither was seasoned. It's fast food. They bring you chips and you select your salsa. You order it at the counter. You don't have to tip. Fast in and out. Cheap beer.

So fresh. So delicious. Such a bang for your buck! This is a nice little surprise on my friend and I's road trip from the Smoky Mountains. Please come to Oklahoma!

Perfect!! We were driving through Jackson and put "Mexican Restaurant" into the search field. The first restaurant that came up was Tulum. It had 4 1/2 stars and was at the next exit. I didn't have time to read any of the reviews. Don't let the drive-thru window fool you into thinking this is a fast food type restaurant! This is fresh made Mexican food. Delish! When they said the tamales are made fresh every morning, that's all I had to hear. I had the jumbo beef tamale (shredded not ground) with cheese sauce on it. It was soooooo goooood! They also have fresh made chips and a salsa bar so you can choose the intensity of the burn. to I had a bite or two or the chimichanga and it was good too. I am just partial to tamales. If your rolling through Jackson or if you live there, you need to try this place. Well, if you like Mexican food. If not, this isn't the place for you.

Great stop for a non-fastfood meal right off the highway! Prices were very good, less than $10 per person, for very fresh tasting Mexican food. You order at the counter and they will bring your food out to you. We found seats outside and our food came out really quickly. My only complaint is with the outside seating. A few tables hadn't been cleared yet so it was hard to find a spot for our group of 5. The first table we went to outside was very wobbly, and there was a puddle under the table (spilled soda maybe). We ended up switching tables as soon as another one opened up. We all really enjoyed our food and the portions were large enough that it was difficult to finish. We tried several of the salsas they offer and all were really tasty. FYI, although none of us tried it the cashier said they are known for their fish tacos.

Wow! A must stop if you are making the trip between Memphis and Nashville! We stopped in and had the chimichanga. It was fresh and very very delicious. The service was perfect and everyone working there was friendly. The place was very clean and the prices are great. Wish we had one just like it near home.

Made a pit stop en route from Memphis to Nashville. Tulum had great reviews, but we were less than thrilled. We ordered a small guacamole (was charged for and got a large). This was delivered quickly, but since it was my entree I was through by the time my spouses quesadilla arrived. Much too long.

  • Sara M.

After a day trip to Memphis while staying in Nashville on vacation, we needed some good food on the road trip home. After looking at reviews...Tulum was our choice!! It was fabulous!!! We had Taco salads that were fresh and a huge amount of food! They offered "gringo beer" for $2.00!! Salsa bar to boot!! To top it off we tried the home made queso.... Delicious!!

  • DJuan L.

I have ZERO negative things to say about this place. I was greeted when I came in and offered chips and salsa while i decided what I wanted to order. I love the fact that they have 6 different salsa that you can choose from and that it is self served. The menu has a large variety and I really love that they have quite a few vegetarian items. This is the first Mexican restaurant that I've been to that offered a veggie chimichanga. Most places offer been or cheese burritos/enchiladas and maybe veggie fajitas, while Tulum offers more. The food came out hot and quick and was delicious. I will be stopping back by the next time I'm in town!

  • David D.

This is a nice place to stop after a few hours on the road. The menu was diverse enough and the food was appealing. Service was not bad and the staff friendly enough. Apparently there isn't much competition in Jackson because the place was packed. The food frankly didn't warrant the hype. After a weekend in Nashville it was a bit of a disappointment.

  • The Angry P.

Really great local fresh Mexican food place. The fish tacos are fantastic, they have a great salsa bar, and the service is fast and friendly. I stop here every time I come through Jackson.

  • Ryan S.

Place look like it had great reviews. Was not a big fan of the inside of the restaurant, could have been cleaner and better designed. The fish tacos are not as good as they claimed.

    (3)
  • Vance S.

Well...the reviews looked great however food was subpar in my thinking. It was just not unique. Guacamole was paste type...pictured it being squeezed out of a bag. Only saving grace is they have a nice beer selection.

A taste of California Mex! Best Mexican food out here. Friendly, Fast and fresh. Don't waste your money on any place else. I had chicken taquitos (4) rice & beans. My guy had chimichanga rice and beans. Salsa bar and chips. $15 we were stuffed. Fine in or drive through. Would love onions and cilantro in the salsa bar. So worth the almost hour for my mexi-fix. Nice selection on the menu and desserts.

  • Charles K.

Good for a fast burrito fix. Salsa bar has a lot of interesting options. The beef in my burrito was well seasoned.

  • Andrew W.

Average little Mexican joint. The food isn't bad but isn't spectacular. The variety of salsas is, however, absolutely outstanding, with heat indexes that are very helpful. The fish tacos, an item that is basically on the same level as God according to loyal patrons, is very mediocre. Fajitas are okay as are the tamales.

  • Valerie L.

Housed in what was probably an old Pizza Hut, this Mexican restaurant had an interesting selection/menu, a cool salsa bar, and a crowded dining room. There were four of us dining and we ordered a traditional chicken burrito (very mediocre), a chicken fajitas (very tasty), nachos smothered in cheese and shredded beef (DELICIOUS-the meat was tender roast.....I'm salivating just thinking about it) and a chicken fajita burrito (mediocre). The service here was great and friendly-while you do walk up to the counter to order they bring chips around and deliver your food. They were very friendly even to us out-of-towners. The salsa bar had a variety of salsas at different levels of spiciness. The really hot one was my favorite. This place had sort of a divey and fun vibe and reminded me of something you would find near the beach in Mexico and it seemed very popular with the Mexicanos. I suggest ordering something with the shredded beef because the flavor and tenderness of that meat were out of this world.

Stopped by here on our way back from a trip to Dallas and had an incredible experience. Food was fresh (hence the name) and tasted awesome. Service was exceptional too! Looks to be renovated from an old Pizza Hut or something but they turned it into a great little treasure in Jackson! Awesome salsa bar, and tons of your traditional Mexican dishes with some great twist! Key lime pie was wonderful too!

    (5)
  • Kerry G.

We decided to try this place based off the other Yelp reviews and we were not disappointed. Food was very fresh and delicious!! Salsa selections were all very tasty. The beef fajitas were very tender and the chicken chimi (La Palmita) was wonderful. We also had the queso (very good) and the key lime pie. Highly recommend!

Yelp scores again. What a great find in Jackson, TN. Super friendly service and excellent food. Love little places like this that are not a chain. Try this place out. You will not be disappointed.

Causal atmosphere & great food! They have a great salsa bar! Chicken fajitas were awesome! Nice size portions and reasonable prices

Stopped here on the way back from Memphis after seeing other yelp reviews. Great choice for a quick Mexican fix and so much better than your franchise burrito shops. Shrimp tacos were as good as I've had and the salsa bar let's you choose your heat with an option for everyone. This will be a regular stop as I go through Jackson.

    (4)
  • David H.

Sorry, it wasn't that good. The recommended beef tamale was just some shredded beef on a masa bed and then covered in a chedder soup like sauce. My granddaughter really got the nastiest item...some kind of chunked chicken in that same sauce served over french fries...disgusting! The only reason I gave it 3 stars is that my wife like the chimi and the chips and salsa was ok. Won't be back.

Stopped into Tulum when I was passing through town on the basis of these Yelp reviews. Glad I did. Tulum isn't visible from the freeway or in a prominent strip mall, so you'll probably want to rely on your smart phone to direct you to Tulum. I got the Cancun Bikini $6.99, which I liked a lot. I was skeptical of red cabbage in a burrito, but overall I was very impressed with this item. I really respect places that take the care to offer unique offerings rather than just standard options you can get anywhere. This place has a unique perspective on Mexican food that it wants to share with you, it isn't just someone throwing together a menu unthoughtfully to match every other Mexican restaurant in the US. I am looking forward to trying the Cozumel Burrito next time I pass through! Other pluses: they had a salsa bar (which I always love), many vegetarian options predominantly advertised, free small chips and salsa with most meals (maybe all?), and very good bottled beer from Kona Brewery (Kona makes great beer and Tulum Fresh stocks it to set their restaurant a part, so you should be sure to try it). The place is very clean and a lot of thought has been put into decorating the place, but I still wish they had tried to be more restaurant-y and less fast food-y. The place has a real fast food vibe; not like Taco Bell or McD's but similar to higher end fast casual places like Baja Fresh or Chipolte.

    (4)
  • Carlos A.

Fish tacos were great. Tried the Elote which is a seasoned corn on the cob. It was good and something very different. I saw it rated well on Yelp and I had to try. The place is casual but I will say the food is very good. A great place to eat when traveling as it is off the highway.

    (5)
  • Kathryn D.

We happened to yelp this place on our way home, so we stopped in for lunch. The place is quaint & decorated accordingly. The place is packed & when we ordered we had to wait for a place to sit. The food was good, I have had better, but I've had much worse. I would stop again passing through if I was wanting Mexican.

  • Erin O.

I travel from Clarksville to Memphis frequently for work, and I stop at Tulum on the way 95% of the time. Excellent tacos (I always get the classic fish tacos or baja shrimp), consistently friendly service, and an amazing amount of food for the money. A true gem in Jackson!

    (5)
  • Thane Y.

Stopped for lunch on way to Nashville. Great food. Mango sweet tea was superb i had the shrimp salad, seasoned with chipotle and various spices. Huge serving, but really good. Jean had fish tacos, also darn tasty.

    (4)
  • Debbie B.

Staff nice & friendly. Salsa bar is a nice touch with about 9 different salsas with heat index. I ordered the fish tacos because of previous reviews. Nothing special. Very little fish. The little bit of fish I tasted, was good. The white sauce was very good. I didn't find anything special about their food.

Traveling across the country a snow storm forced an unplanned stop in TN for us. We yelped Talum and drove the 0.2 miles from our hotel to the restaurant. Coming from CA, this was a welcome little joint that felt like I had gone right back to a little surf shack. The food was super California Mexican authentic, and the salsa bar was awesome. The green salsa was particularly good- and this was not something I was expecting to encounter in Jackson, TN. The staff were super friendly and stoked to hear that I was coming from CA since the owner is apparently from San Diego. I am vegetarian and they had a lot of great options. I had the Cancun burrito (or something like that- it had cabbage in it) and it was really good. I am probably going back for lunch if I am still stuck here due to weather. If you are passing through or staying and looking for a good place to eat this is a good option.

  • Phoebe J.

Best fish taco I've ever had.. Is in the middle of Tennessee??? Yup. Sorry, SoCal .. Somehow a combination of freshly delivered gulf seafood and a crazy amount of talented Mexican restauranteurs- has made Jackson, TN, a Mexican food hot spot in the U-S of A. From their fresh tortillas and cups of kickass salsas (caliente y verde, por favor!) .. To their crunchy red cabbage slaw & gulf fresh fish.. These tacos were insanely good. From the outside it looks like a Del Taco.. But do not be deceived. This is no lame chain. This is a hidden gem pumping out excellence.

First time here, and all in all, not too bad. Salsa bar offers six types of salsa, all look fresh made and the two we had (Chipotle and regular) were delicious. Chips are good. You order at the counter and then your food is brought to you. We sat outside, and of course we got the "wobble" table! Watch for bird poop, btw. Wife and I ordered vegetarian, Fresca tacos and the Cancun Bikini wrap, and both were delicious. They forgot the nachos for our little one, but when we pointed it out, they were brought out promptly, and hot so they hadn't been sitting there. Had to track down napkins and silverware. I know the staff was busy but their were no smiles. Shredded beef nachos were delicious as were the rice and beans that accompanied our dishes. We will be coming back!

Chip and salsa is good, horchata is home made and good, the service is fast, food good. I would eat here again. This place even has a drive-thur.

  • Lindy J.

Fresh and yummy. The fish and the shrimp tacos are a must. The fresh salsa bar is great.

    (5)
  • Tammy L.

Not sure what all the hype is about. Ordered the cheese enchiladas and pretty sure Taco Bell could do a better job. Yuk. Just yuk. Although.....the place was pretty busy so maybe it's best to stick with tacos. ;)

  • Jeff R.

Have always had excellent food and service at Tulum! The freshness of their food and menu puts them on a plane above the other Mexican restaurants in the area. The salsa bar is very cool and eclectic and their key lime pie is amazing!!

  • Christan H.

This place is really cool. It's a Mexican express style restaurant where you seat yourself. The food was really good and came out really fast. They also have a salsa bar so you can choose the level of hot that you want. They only reason for the 4 and not a 5 is because the cashier had an attitude and wasn't very helpful. However, the young girl that brought our food out was very friendly. Overall, I'd recommend this place.

    (4)
  • Derek W.

This place has some of the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. My wife loves their fish tacos and I love pretty much everything they make. The only reason I can't give them five stars is because every time I've been over the last few months they have been out of the meat for the tamales I really like. (I guess this goes to show how much people like them!) They also have free wifi which, sadly, is often a rarity in Jackson. So, wonderful food, great service, and nice amenities.

  • Kevin D.

First time here passing through Jackson, TN and noticed this place was highly ranked on Yelp. The Habenero was very runny. I usually like mine a bit thicker so it stays on the tortilla. For entrees, we ordered the burrito and the chicken fajitas. Both were good and full of flavor.

  • Hungry G.

Had the Tulum Fish tacos, they were amazing. Pleasant people great food., my kinda place.

  • Rob W.

Great food. Fast & fresh. Order at the counter & they bring it to you. Sorta like a cross between Moes & a Mexican restaurant as far as service & atmosphere goes. We needed a quick bite, and this was perfect. The salsa was great!

  • Lupe L.

The food here took me back to Rosarito Beach in Mexico. Great atmosphere, but better yet great food. Would definitely travel an hour outside of Memphis to go here again.

  • Amanda B.

Tulum was an institution in my life until I moved from Jackson a month ago. For the past two and a half years I have gone here at least once a week. The prices are reasonable, the service is prompt, and the food is fresh and delicious. Honestly, after hundreds of visits, I got a little burned out on my standard dishes (Bean and Cheese Burrito and the Las Frescas Tacos), but by the time I left town I had circled back to loving this place and all it represents. I miss it - the consistent taste, the kitschy decorations, and the strangest playlist in the history of Mexican restaurants. Check it out, get a side of queso, and enjoy the local Jackson vibes.

    (5)
  • Heidi K.

We were driving thru Jackson and wanted a decent sit-down restaurant, this place fit bill all around. The chimichangas were delicious! It was a pleasant surprise and we will definitely be back when we're in this area again. Highly recommend!

  • Dan Z.

Eaten here 4-5 times now and so dang good!!! I don't give 5 stars very often. I'm from SoCal, so please don't hold that against me. There is nothing bad here, I mean nothing! Salsa, cheese dip, tacos, tamales...you name it, it's great!!!! Best Mexican food in TN...even better than Oscar's in Franklin, and I love Oscar's!!!!!

    (5)
  • Shayne H.

Fish tacos are the best I've had just about anywhere. Good selection of different things including sandwiches. Lots of salsas to choose from. The rice and beans are a little one note is the only reason I didn't give it five stars.

    (4)
  • Colin B.

Fantastic! The tacos were wonderfully seasoned and light. Excellent sauce, lightly breaded fish that was moist and not oily, freshest shrimp in town. The tortas are outrageous. Nice fresh bollilo bread, citrusy guacamole, and rich moist carne asada. The salsa bar is a fun touch, and thank you for the HABANERO! I live in Jackson and I've never been here in the five years they have been open. I guarantee they will know me by name within five weeks.

  • Susan R.

Stopped in for dinner on our way back to Texas because of all the good reviews. I was skeptical that we could get good Mexican food in Jackson, TN, but the reviews did not lie! Everything was outstanding. The beans and rice had just the right flavor and my quesadillas were delicious. They have different flavors of hot sauce and all of them looked and tasted very fresh. Service was friendly and quick. The only thing I would downgrade them on is their guacamole, it was a little bland and watered down.

This is the best place for mexican food in jackson, tn.

  • C G.

Picked this place because of the high average rating and wasn't disappointed. Food was fresh, reasonably priced, and fast. When you walk in you order at a counter, pick a salsa or two from the salsa bar, and chips are brought to your table (you seat yourself). My carne asada fajita quesadilla was crispy and hearty, and the rice and refried beans were solid. Got the mango sweet tea, which was also good. I wanted to try the horchata but was just too full. Family-friendly, with a really nice staff. This place doesn't look like much on the outside, but if you're traveling and looking for quality food, this is the place to stop.

  • Hollan B.

Tulum has become our go-to-stop when traveling thru Jackson. Good service, clean and we love the patio when the weathers nice (we've usually been doing quite a bit of traveling so having a place for the kids to stretch is a big plus). The fresh salsa bar is yummy. Mango sweet Tea is good. I usually get the Tulum fish or shrimp tacos...fish is my favorite but both are excellent. The hubby has had shrimp chimichanga and Baja shrimp tacos...loved them both. Tamales are very good too. Rice and beans are just meh but not a reason to not come back. Homemade key lime pie is pretty scrumptious. All in all a great place to grab a bite, basically right off the interstate, fresh and delicious food!

  • Enrique P.

Food was good, and reasonably priced. Chips and salsa bar was a neat idea. Food came out quickly, and it tasted authentic. Definitely a better option than chain food. Check it out if you're passing through Jackson.

A fresh take on Mexican here in Jackson. Hands-down the best Mexican food in this area.

    (4)
  • Alice H.

Second best restaurant in Jackson and best "Mexican." I love Daryl the owner's commitment to improving his menu. They have healthy options and make most of their food fresh. Fish tacos are solid. I always get a fish taco salad and they will let me get fresh avocado slices on the top instead of guacamole (because I am a weirdo who likes Avos better than guacamole.) Beer is cheap. Music is always happy. Service is great. Go there now!!

  • Jarm T.

Who would have thought one of the best fresh Mexican grills between Raleigh and Little Rock is found just off of I-40 in Jackson, TN? The Baja shrimp and fish tacos are so fresh and the sides and salsa bar are amazing. Travelers must make this one of their pit stops for lunch or dinner.

    (4)
  • D. S.

Traveling home down I40 and hungry for some Mexican food on Cinco de Mayo (just a coincidence) we saw the good reviews and map quested it. About 1 mile off of the highway we found it. And almost did not get out of the car. It looked like a retired Taco Bell! We took a chance, walked in, ordered, and were all pleasantly surprised! Fresh ingredients, yummy salsa (with plenty of choices) and reasonable prices with a fun atmosphere. We now know where to stop for good Mexican food when passing thru Jackson.

Thanks to Yelp, stopped here as I passed through Jackson. The people were friendly, and the service was excellent. I had the vegetarian Bikini wrap, which was really good, and ordering it was fun, too!

    (4)
  • Eric J.

It has a winning combination here. The fresh ingredients, the great service and relaxed atmosphere. It feels someone went on a great Mexican vacation and tried to bring all the best elements to the restaurant. The one key factor about the good is the taste. It's at a freshness level, that you can taste all the ingredients in every thing. They pay attention to detail here.

Why would anyone even consider zooming through a fast food drive-thru with this place around? Cheap, quick, delish, and full of veg options... now that is what I call my kind of lunch spot! I was heading back to Nashville from my visit to Memphis and couldn't bear another stop at Subway as that chain is one of the few veg-friendly options when you're on the road and limited on time. So, I took a risk (primarily because I need to fill up on gas too) and pulled off this exit. For $7.13, I enjoyed 2 Fresco tacos, rice, beans, chips, and salsa. The salsa bar had 6 offerings that ranged from the mild to spicy too. Did I mention how adorable the little patio was too? I'm bummed that we don't have a location in Nashville!

What a great little find. On way to Memphis from Asheville. Easy in/out. Counter order/deliver to table. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Need one in Memphis.

The restaurant: When we arrived, they didn't have a lot of people dining, but the staff, including the manager, were working as if it was standing-room only. They were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. The manager was visibly irritated with the staff and scolded them several times right in front of me. To me, that is unprofessional. The food: The menu has a good selection. I went with the Tacos Diablo plate and got two carne asada and one shrimp taco. The manager warned me they were spicy, which was a good move. They were spicy, not a problem for me, but definitely could have been for other people. They were very tasty. The plate came with rice (which was bland) and retried beans (which were very runny and very bland). Chips and salsa also came with the plate. The chips were a bit oily, but the 6 salsa choices made up for that. The salsas ranged from mild to fairly spicy. I would return, but would hope for a less hectic and more professional staff. The price was good, especially for dinner.

Who knew Jackson, TN had such good Mexican food? Tulum was one of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Fresh, flavorful, creative food that was made to order and came out fast. The homemade Horchata and Limonada were excellent. Our server Omar was attentive, and another server even brought out organic dog treats for my friend's dog as we sat on the patio. I will recommend this place to everyone I know making the Memphis-Nashville drive. Tulum is not to be missed.

  • Amy R.

I have tried most of the offerings on the menu. I really enjoy the fish tacos (my personal favorite) and the banana leaf tamales (best in all of Jackson). I will say that the beef reminds me of pot roast, but it is delicious all the same. Don't forget to ask about the aqua fresca and horchata. They are pretty tasty as well! Excellent made from scratch food, excellent price, friendly staff, clean establishment, and fast service....what more could you want!

Stopped by on way home from Nashville after reading reviews. Very easy to locate. The mango tea alone is worth stopping for! The worst part was trying to decide what to eat. They have a very large menu with lots of pictures that make you want every item. We ordered the chips and cheese dip which was awesome. I had the sloppy joe quesadilla with a fish taco on the side and my husband had a chicken quesadilla. It was served very quickly and all seemed hot and very fresh. The service was great, the owner was there to take our order and was very friendly and helpful with the menu. His staff was very friendly also. I would not hesitate to stop by here again. My husband has already said what he thins he will try next time.

Come on Jackson. I drove to Memphis from Nashville and checked in here on the way there and the way back and I'm already the Duke!! Step your game up Jackson this place is too good to not show it love! So far I've tried the fish tacos, carne asada tacos, and the Cabo Catoche chimichanga . Everything has been excellent and very reasonably priced. The chimichanga was fried perfectly, had the right amount of spice and topped with a generous amount of fresh cilantro (my favorite). The fish tacos were also very good. Great flavor and crunch and the white sauce is amazing. All the entrees come with rice, beans, chips and salsa. They are good but nothing too special. Fresh food, great value, and they even have a drive-thru. Definitely my new pit stop between Nashville and Memphis.

We stayed in Jackson on a cross-country drive last year, and we were DYING to find a place to eat that didn't involve pre-cooked hamburgers or limp french fries...I checked Yelp and found Tulum, which was conveniently close to our hotel. I was hoping for slightly better-than-average fast food, but we were pleasantly surprised when we got back to our room and opened up our bags of grub - everything was delicious, everything tasted freshly made, and it was probably one of the best meals I've had while on a road trip. The La Merida salad was awesome, and the tortilla shell it was served in was one of the best I've ever tasted. The owner even took time to greet us personally (at the drive-thru window, nonetheless!!!!) and tell us a bit of the restaurant's history while we waited for our food to be cooked to order - super nice guy. Hope this place does extraordinarily well and that we get a chance to visit again!

Do not miss this place! Immaculately clean with friendly service. Exceptional menu variety and EVERYTHING tastes fresh and is obviously made to order. Love the atmosphere and music I hear when I'm there. I think about this food long after I've eaten it! Do yourself a favor and eat here.

Really fresh, great food, beer available, great atmosphere. I can't say enough positive about this place. This really isn't just one more Mexican place. Try the fish tacos and the Yucatan tacos. Fabulous!

This place is a gem. I ate here yesterday and may eat here again today before heading back to CA. It is FRESH MEX. I talked to the owner and they don't have a freezer... all ingredients are fresh! That's awesome, I love that. And you can taste it too; the food isn't overly greasy to hide the natural flavors. The interior is cool and very festive. Customer service is excellent; friendly and genuine. They have domestic beers for 1.50 and mexican beers for 2.00. Can't beat that! I'd come here just to hang and have beers with my friends if I lived here. Not only do they have vegetarian options, but you can easily get a vegan meal. The owner told me a vegan worked there at one point and helped develop the menu a little. The beans are lard free; the rice has no chicken stock in it. One happy vegan right here. And I assume the carnivores will be happy since none of their meat is frozen! You'd think it'd be more expensive for the quality of the food, restaurant and service, but it's not. Still very reasonably priced. I heard this place one a dining award for TN and I can see why; really great. Highly recommend.

my wife and I have lived in San Diego,Cal. for 35 years and in that time have acquired a taste for Mexican food. We are in town visiting relatives and needed a Mexican food fix and on a whim stopped by this place not knowing that we were about to have California style Mexican cuisine! This place is the real deal! The menu is fantastic..the food is authentic..The spices are perfect and to top things off, Real homemade salsa! My wife loved her shrimp tacos and I devoured my carne asada burrito..We can't wait to come back and try more items on the menu..Jackson,if you want real Mexican food come here!

Tulum is a SOLID four and close to a five star rating. The reason it's not 5 stars is because although the food is great it's not like eating in Mexico. I'm not a Jackson local but I'd eat here again. The service was great, the food fresh and the place is clean. I like that they give you free chips with an assortment of help-yourself salsas. You can tell the staff cares about what they do and customer service is great. We went on a Saturday night and it was pretty full. For Jackson, TN this is great mexican food.

The food is so fresh & delicious here. It's a nice change from the oh-so-many similar Mexican restaurants in Jackson (while I'm a fan of those, too). I've had several different things here and I'm never, ever disappointed. Their salsa options are awesome! There is a very nice seating area outside too. This is a great place for large crowds, kids, adults...well, everyone. The staff is very passionate about the food and super helpful.

I eat here all the time! The staff is friendly ! The service is excellent ! There are large pictures everywhere of any dish they offer and a large menu ! They have a lot of vegetarian plates to choose from! They are constantly creating new dishes! There is a nice salsa bar! The sweet tea is perfect! The restrooms and dining area is clean! The ac and heat work fine! The music is great ! It's located in a good location on Carriage House and Highland! How much better could it get????

My son and I had our first visit to this establishment Saturday and we will definitely be back! It is not your typical Tex-Mex at all. It looks and tastes like everything is made fresh daily and there was no sign of a microwave in the place. The proprietor said they don't use anything that has been frozen or microwaved and I can believe it. Don't expect it to be like anyplace else in Jackson. It's definitely a California take on Mexican food. I only had a couple of disappointments with the meal... their Horchata maker was out sick and the Guacamole wasn't as good as I expected. They bring chips to your table and the salsa bar has a good, tasty, selection... from mild to very hot. Just right for anyone's taste. I saw them deliver "kid friendly" meals, so bring the little one's.

My family was traveling from Nashville to Memphis, and wanted to avoid fast food, and found Tulum Mexican Grill on yelp. We were very happy with the food and the service; everything was fresh and delicious. My chimichanga was excellent and my kids loved the burritos. The salsa was great, and I loved it that they brought out chips to us and steered us to the salsa bar. We've found our new stop whenever traveling through Jackson!

Between my kids, husband, and myself we tried the carne asada fries, sampler platter, the cabo catoche, and fried ice cream. I loved the drink selection and salsa bar - I happily drenched salsa verde and chipotle all over my burrito. The food is delicious, everything tasted very fresh down to the refried beans. I'm looking forward to going back already....

Tulum was an unexpected gem in Jackson--food so fresh, service so friendly, what's not to love? We stopped in off a road trip and were so thrilled with the fish tacos we had to go back for more. In addition, the carne asada is very tender, and the salsas are top-notch. Give this place your love (and money).

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
