My family and I have been to Gondola 5 times. Each time has been fantastic. Excellent service, kid-friendly, clean, and the decor is pretty cool. Pizza is a tricky business. People seem to have a specific preference for certain types of crust, so I'll try to describe it: The crust is thin. Made with imported Italian flour (it says in the menu). It's kind of a dense/soft, not tough, with a thin crusty coating. It reminds me if a flattened buttery pretzel! The toppings are just right. Not too little, not too much. The meatball appetizer is delicious as well. I have not tried other items on the menu, such as sandwiches, because the pizza is so good, I can't seem to order anything else. The kids cheese pizza is just a miniature version on their regular pizza. Very good.

Gondola house was recommended to me by a coworker and referred to as a great little local Italian spot. Needless to way, it was quite a disappointment after that great recommendation. The prices were high for the value and service level, and the food left a lot to be desired. It wasn't bad, just definitely not good either.

I had the Chicken Cacciatore, and it was wonderful! We had the Tiramisu for dessert, something we had never tried before. It was indescribably good. We had the most enjoyable evening and had a very fine waitress. She helped us with suggestions because we were new there. Can't say enough about this restaurant. Atmosphere was marvelous, dark and romantic, warm and cozy. Will be back for sure!

Have been here a few times and got several different dishes, but never had anything that was very good. I like the architecture, and in the interior, seems out of place, in a good way, in Hermitage, but the food isn't there yet. Painturo's down the street is a tad better.

Great service and good food! The meatball appetizers are a very good start for any meal.

We ate here on a Saturday afternoon (2/9/13). It was our first time. Both my husband and myself had fond memories of a Gondola House restaurant in Clarksville, TN and East Tennessee, so we wanted to try it and support a local restaurant. We loved it and will be coming back. The inside is modern and open with clean lines (no fussiness here) and they have a bar/counter where you could also sit and see into the kitchen, which looked like a fun place to eat, but we sat in a very large booth. My husband ordered the margherita pizza and loved it. Crust was great ! (not thick). I ordered the chicken parmesan, and it was wonderful. The chicken breast was plump and juicy and flavorful. Served with lots of melted cheese and fettucine on the side, with a slice of garlic bread (ok, not great). Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. Our bill for the small pizza and my chicken parmesan (with a side Ceasar salad), tea and coffee was approximately $28-29.00. Server was attentive and nice, but not overbearing. The only slightly strange thing was they did not have individual creamers for the coffee, as she said they were out of creamer (?), so she brought a large carton out that we had to pour from, and then she took the carton back, but no big deal. Everything I saw other patrons order looked great and we are anxious to go back and try some other items. Nice to have a local place to support. Go Gondola!

I was looking for a decent mom & pop Italian restaurant while visiting Nashville area for a week and found this place on yelp with mainly good reviews. When I drove up, I was pleasantly surprised to see this hidden gem amongst a barrage of chain restaurants and strip mall shopping centers. The exterior of the building and the ambience inside were modern and inviting. Upon entering, I was promptly greeted and seated by a lady who I think is the owner and she even brought out bread for my little daughter within first few mins. I ordered spaghetti with homemade meat sauce for myself and kids pepperoni pizza for my daughter and glass of merlot that the owner lady recommended. Server brought out food pretty quickly and was attentive to us the whole time without being too in-your-face. My pasta was delicious and merlot recommendation was spot on. Only caveat was that the pizza was much too greasy for my taste. Otherwise food gets a solid 4.5 for the price. My overall experience was wonderful and I saw nice little touches by the owners - for example the owner lady was checking up on all tables from time to time while the husband (I believe) was running food to the table along with other servers. Something you won't see in run-of-the-mill chains. These little gestures are always refreshing. In my book, this mom-n-pop restaurant is a keeper and I'll certainly be eating here next time I am in this area. Recommended!!!

I love this place- their pizza tastes great with fresh toppings, their spinach lasagna is outstanding, and the service is always great. Yum!

The best! If you haven't tried it your missing out. Sister and brother owners Kathy and Tony are great. The wait staff are top notch. Everything on menu is great. You will leave very satisfied!

Great pizza and glad that it has much more to offer than that. Sort of a little hole in the wall place that always has great food. The service was great and the place was clean.

Well, the name said Pizzeria so of course I had to try it. Cheese pizza is my favorite and always the first thing I order at a pizza joint. If you can't make a cheese pizza you can't make squat. Epic Fail here people. The crust was like shoe leather. I do not think I have ever had a tougher crust on a pizza. The toppings barely went past the halfway mark on the pie... what the f**k??? I have never seen such a large crust edge in my life. This place was horrible and I will never go back. The taste was bland, the pizza tough and the toppings skimpy. They are very proud of their pizzas and charge accordingly. They charge 12$ for a 14" pizza, which they consider a large... 14" a LARGE??? That should have been my clue right there. They also brag about using 00 Flour as if they are these artisan pizza chefs. They should do a little research on why and when to use 00 Flour. I am assuming the other rave reviews on here ordered something other than pizza. Please DO NOT go here for the pizza, you will be sorely disappointed, save your money and buy yourself a Tombstone from Kroger... you will have a much better experience.

pizza g obviously doesn't know what good pizza is or he owns a competing business.. The pizza along with anything else you order is absolutely delicious. Highly recommended!

During my ritual Saturday outing with my gal pal, we decided to stop at this joint after a day full of shopping. The exterior stood out in the cluster of chain restaurants and strip malls... a modern, almost funky restaurant. She and I went inside and were waited on promptly by a super friendly server. The pizzas at the other tables looked delicious (I'm a bit of a food voyeur) but my friend got the caprese (looked very fresh and she loved it, I didn't try it) and I got the meatball sub - DELICIOUS. The bread was flaky and perfectly buttered and toasted with 3 generous meatballs topped with herbs and cheeses. I added banana peppers which he was happy to provide. It came with shoestring fries (I do not know if any substitute sides were available, but a salad could be ordered for an additional cost). The fries were out of this world! Also, we were well taken care of with a jovial and helpful staff. I do not know if I would drive to this part of town JUST to go there, but will definitely make the effort to revisit next time I'm around that part of town. I wish them much success!

Solid pizza joint! Husband and I split the house special pizza and cheese bread appetizer - both delicious! Reminds me of pizza I used to love at Pie in the Sky in midtown. The small 12" was plenty big for two of us - we brought home leftovers. Two desserts shared with friends - the butterscotch bread pudding and caramel brownie. YUM. Really good. Our server was super sweet and a real pro. She gave us some history on the restaurant - It's been family owned for generations. The interior is very modern. Makes for a great date spot in Hermitage. Will definitely be back!

A real gem in Hermitage. There is a great feel to the place; family friendly but still intimate. Open and airy. The staff are friendly and it really feels like a neighborhood place. It's always been super clean and neat, always in order. The food is great- the pizza is as good as 5 Points Pizza in East Nashville (in my opinion) and more affordable for a family eating out. There is a sizeable italian-style menu to choose from. Drinks like wine and beer are inexpensive with a decent selection. Apps are a highlight and their cheese sticks, antipasti plate, etc will really impress. The spaghetti and meatballs was good, nothing mind blowing, but ample in portion and screamed quality. Service has been friendly and quick with little exception. I do hate the parking lot (its cramped and hard to turn into/out of traffic). My wife and I recently moved out to the Donelson area and were not enthused about our options for dining after work until we found this place.

When they get it right, it's perfection. I love the pizzas and the homemade cheese sticks could bring a tear to your eye. I really like the pesto chicken sandwich and if you get a chance to try the chocolate bread pudding you won't regret it.

  • Andrea R.

The best Italian we've had in Nashville so far. We had the mozzarella cheese sticks, chicken parm and my husband had the special, a handmade sausage tortellini type pasta with alfredo sauce that was awesome. The cheese sticks and chicken parm were delicious and I'm still trying to figure out how they got them so crispy without a hint of greasiness. The atmosphere was a little blah and the music selection was curious (top 40?) Nevertheless, yay, I'm a fan.

  • Hank D.

Wow, Hermitage is not known for any sort of good food that is authentic anything. I was delighted to have eaten at this spot as everything was fresh and prompt. I sat outside and had a couple of glasses of Pinot Noir. The service was great and just tried some apps to gauge my hunger. Mozzarella sticks were huge as well as the anti pasta plate which I could not finish. The time I will get the pizza to try. Gluten free is a option which helps the wife. Hit this spot you won't be disappointed!

We were shocked to find such an amazing pizza place in Tennessee. I've eaten here about 4-5 times and I've never been disappointed. The pizza is out of this world. You would think you were in any NY pizza shop. The meatballs are out of this world for a restaurant. They taste just like grandma's. The fried ravioli are delicious and the steak sandwich is straight from Philly. I love this place and will definitely be back. I've gotten take-out from here a couple of times and ate in-house for lunch a couple of times. Give it a try...you'll be very pleased that you did.

Great place to go for Italian food in hermitage. My wife and I live just up the road from this place, so we decided to give it a try. The service is always good, pizza and pastas are tasty, and prices are reasonable as well. The only thing holding this place back is its location. When it's crowded, parking is a challenge.

    (4)
  • Jeff L.

Pizza was much better then the spaghetti. We ordered a pizza and I ordered spaghetti based off the servers recommendation. It was busy when we went but the service was fast. We will continue to eat there, nice local place to eat. Parking can be tricky when they are really busy.

First I want to say that the food I amazing here. The first time my wife and I came, I had the steak special, ad it was basted in a butter sauce and came with whipped red potatoes that were amazing. My wife got spaghetti and meat balls. This time we got calamari appetizer that was on special, and a large pizza to split. The pizza had salami and basil, and the flavor was spot on. Why no 5 stars? My issue is customer service. I love an open kitchen concept, and I always appreciate when theirs a large staff on hand. What was a bummer both times we came, was looking at the 5 gals that were behind the bar area between he service floor and he kitchen, but only 2 people manning the entire service floor. Both times we sat with empty drinks for long periods, and though our food was fast, even getting a to go box was slow going. If even 1 of the people that were behind that counter were running drinks for the service floor, everything would have ran smoother. This wont stop us from coming, but this would get them to a 5 star for me.

  • Julie R.

Consistent, quality food and service. I eat here so often that the servers have my favorite sweet tea sitting on the table almost before I'm seated. Favorites: Italian Cobb Salad, Grilled Chicken Sandwich, Sausage & barley soup, and the Bread Pudding.

I've driven past this place a hundred times and I've always wanted to try it. Last weekend, it finally happened. Walking in, it felt brand new. Almost too new, like the warmth was missing. I can tell the owners put a lot of effort into making the restaurant look great but it just felt a little cold for a pizza house. The service was...ok. Not great, but ok. The server forgot the beer my wife ordered and just overall wasn't super-attentive. Several female employees who were either on break or hanging around before/after their shifts were hanging out at the bar. It seems unprofessional to an extent, especially when you're waiting for a beer and you see so many employees (whether they're working or not) texting on their phones. The food was actually pretty great. We shared a small pizza full of various Italian meats and an appetizer of mozzarella sticks. Both were superb. Absolutely wonderful. Unfortunately, I'm really a stickler for the overall experience of a restaurant. I have to say that it's unlikely I'll return unless it's for take-out.

Incredible pizza crust the best I have ever had they really know what they are doing here! Forget the chain restaurants and give this pace a try you won't be disappointed! Friendly fast service too!

I love Italian food and I was coming on a day trip to Nashville to shop. I looked this restaurant up within distance and took a chance. The shop itself is clean and everything is pretty open so you can see you food being prepared. I loved their flat bread apps and the pastas were delicious. The main thing most restaurants can't do right is lasagna without it tasting like canned meat and sauce. This place did a great job and I take it over Olive Garden Lasagna.

  • Alisha V.

Went here for the first time today and it was great! I'm a pretty harsh critic when it comes to Italian good because I'm Italian and my family makes homemade sauce and food, so nothing ever compares. But this place was great! Their meatballs rocked! So did their marg. pizza. Loved it!

Service was great! We had Sean as out waiter and he was very attentive and friendly! The food was great. The pizza was cooked in a timely fashion and it was delicious! My dad had the homemade spinach lasagna and loved that as well! All around great experience! Highly recommend!

My vote for the best pizza in the Wilson county area! We have become regulars because of the great food and terrific service. We enjoy a Greek Salad (big enough to share with 4) and a large Bianco pizza. I suppose we ought to try something else, but when we find perfection, why mess with it?

    (5)
  • Ken W.

I love the House Special. The crust here is just right - not too thick, not too thin. If only my wife liked pizza more I'd eat here all the time. The tiramisu is pretty tasty, too.

  • Peter T.

The food here was excellent. The atmosphere was good. The service was excellent. The meal started off perfect with the common everyday house salad, it was hand ripped romaine lettuce, chilled just righr, house dressing....the dressing homemade, classic Italian flavor. They we had the meatball appetizer, it was perfect, three meatballs also wonderful homemade flavors, real cheese melted and a lovely fresh tomato sauce. Then we ordered the 14 inch pizza Margahita. Which was fantastic, everything tasted yummy, we had big smiles the entire mesl, the cost was not a concern, yet it also brought a smile too. We ate everything so we reluctantly skipped desert. We will be back for seconds....

We have been here many times. Great pizza and love their spaghetti with meat sauce. My wife loves the spinach lasagna. Ask for a side Greek salad! Always a goto place when someone visits.

First I want to say, seriously, this place has the best grilled chicken sandwich. How good can one be? It can't be explained, only tasted. My girlfriend and I decided to visit this place kind of last minute. Actually it was more so her idea. We absolutely loved it. She had spaghetti with meat sauce, she told me to make sure to add in my review that she loved it. She doesn't finish her meals often but took it home with her and had some left overs for the next day, according to her, best left overs ever. And the waitress was probably the best waitress I've ever had serve us. She was great and very friendly. Don't remember her name, but she deserves some recognition. I highly recommend this place to everyone. Give it a whirl.

I loved the atmosphere, and our server was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. The pizza is really good, and I love the Chicken Parmesan. The decor and ambience is vibrant, yet calming. The pastas are very good, but do try the pizza!

It is exactly the way I remember kind of Italian place I used to go as a kid. It's a real family restaurant. The menu is straight to the point almost all your staple signature dishes, except one, no manicotti. I was really in the mood for. We had the fried ravioli, which were the best I've ever had. They are big. And then I had the meatballs sandwich. It was a classic. House red wine was good and $5 a glass. It's good homemade food like you remember as a kid.

The chicken pesto Flatbread and the steak sandwich is freaking awesome both were fresh hot cooked and good ice cold draft beer the waitress we had wasn't that good when she took my 1st empty beer glass she wouldn't ask if I wanted another but oh well I still left her a nice tip.again food is so awesome

This is our favorite place for a date night. The pizza has a unique crust and is simply delicious! They have great beer specials and awesome appetizers. It gets busy QUICK! Arrive early for lunch/dinner or you will be waiting for a place to sit. I have zero complaints and can't wait to go back.

  • Paul J.

I ordered a sausage and cheese pizza which was very good but a regular menu item. What was special was the customer service! The customer service was outstanding! The place was very clean! The restaurant is tucked away in a small area next to a gas station so very easy to miss. Overall The food was great and so was the service! I will definitely visit this place again.

  • Karlee B.

Spinach and artichoke dip is good, but a bit creamier than I prefer. I ordered the chicken, spinach, and tomato pizza. Fresh ingredients and good tasting crust, but the overall taste was a little bland. Friendly and helpful staff , however I did not like listening to their personal and private conversations as they were standing behind the counter close to our seats. Nice decor and good background music.

  • Carrie W.

Went here the other day. Service was not top notch but the food was AMAZING! I had spinach Lasagna an it was soo good, nice an fresh. The only down side for me to this particular spot is that they had no desserts an ultimately this is why i gave it 4 stars instead of 5. What italian spot doesn't have desserts. It is sad to me that they had NO DESSERTS an there are hundreds of good Italian desserts that they could of had an a hand full of simple ,easy but yummy ones that they could of had on hand.

Wow! Wow wow wow wow wow! This place is awesome. Seriously best take-out pizza I've had in Nashville. I don't think I'll be ordering pizza from anywhere else for a while.

This local place is a tiny piece of meatball heaven in Hermitage. I regularly make the trek from Hendersonville to Hermitage for the fabulous food and supreme service. Everything about Gondola makes me happy. For starters, the Sicilian Baked Meatballs - $5.99. OMG. Those balls. You just have to try them to see what I mean. Do not pass go, do not collect $200, TRY THE MEATBALLS. They will not disappoint. The House Salad - $4.99 - is excellent (smaller version of their Gondola Salad). I recommend the Italian Vinaigrette dressing -- very flavorful. Their pizzas are loaded with fresh ingredients. I don't think you would be disappointed by trying any of the pizzas. I've tried just a few and were well pleased with all of them. My pizza choices are not relevant because it is your individual taste that determines your favorite pizza toppings. The service is supreme. On a recent Gondola visit, my server - Tiffany - suggested entrees and was very attentive to our table. She was not; however, so attentive that it was annoying. She made sure to refill our beverages and that we loved our food. She genuinely wanted to make sure we were pleased with what we ordered and that we loved Gondola as much as she does. This is such a rare thing - a server that cares - it was appreciated and remembered. On the downside, the restaurant is small - would love to see them grow but scared it would take away the intimate feel. Also, not for romantic conversation - at times the restaurant can be a tad noisy but the food makes up for any distraction. I suggest you give it a try and see for yourself and for heaven's sake, TRY THE MEATBALLS!

Gondola House is really really good! My husband and I were shopping in Hermitage one evening and decided to find a place nearby to eat. We don't live in that area, so relied on Yelp to help us out, and help us it did! It was between this and another highly rated local pizza place. The other was closer, but we walked up, and they have live music inside the very small restaurant, so I decided to pass, because we could not have had any conversation during our dinner. I'm so glad we passed it up because Gondola House is quite a gem! It's very nice inside. It feels like it's either relatively new or has gotten a modern contemporary face-lift recently. Because it was after 8pm, we were seated immediately. Our server was so so friendly, had suggestions to offer, answered our "which is better" questions honestly, and was friendly toward our baby as well. I find it nice when the server addresses her instead of pretending she isn't there. Our pizza, which was a pepperoni, sausage and mushroom was delicious. Great pizza, and the sauce was phenomenal. We have tried to go back one more time since, but they were on an hour wait and it wasn't something we could accommodate that evening. Even though there was no need, the host was very apologetic, which I thought was nice. She suggested a better time to arrive without a wait on the weekends, and we will take her up on that next time we venture this way. I'm sure it won't be long as at least once a month my husband mentions "maybe we should go to that pizza place in Hermitage.":)

I'm not sure what people are so excited about at this restaurant. I had pizza there both times and it wasn't that good. This past time, I got the Hawaiian Pizza. Their cheese tasted sub standard and the ham on the pizza was like they took pre packaged sliced ham from the grocery store, cut it up, and put it on that pizza. I only went there because it was a place my son liked. If we ever go back again (which is doubtful), I think I'll have to read some reviews and get an item that people are raving about.

I'm not a "5 Star" kind of reviewer, BUT this place really earned it! My family just moved down to Tennessee this summer, and we've been checking out a ton of restaurants. We keep coming back to Gondola House. Honestly, I've had better pizza, but I've never felt more welcome at any other restaurant! We showed up with a party of 7 last night, and were 1/2 way through our appetizers before we realized they were supposed to have already closed. They never let on that they were trying to close up. They sat us with a smile and served us a fantastic meal!! I got the special for the night, and it truly was one of the best pasta dishes I've EVER eaten! We love this place and we love the people!!

Amazing Italian food at great prices! Everything is made fresh from scratch, and you can taste the difference. We got the Lasagna pizza, and the fried ravioli, and they killed it- super fresh, super tasty. Definitely coming back!

Gondola House is quickly becoming our favorite place. To be honest, I'm not that crazy about their pizza. I've had three kinds now and none of them have wow'ed me. However, they have great sandwiches -- especially the steak sandwich. We also enjoy the antipasto platter and the Greek salad. On Tuesdays they have 1/2 price wine. Altogether, this is a great local spot with really good/fresh food and decent prices.

Service was great, and the meatballs were delicious. I will absolutely be back. The only reason I am leaving 4 stars is because the menu was limited. It was basically pizza, spaghetti, or a sandwich. What they make, they make very well. I am pretty finicky with spaghetti sauce, but I really liked theirs.

The best !! I love this gem in Hermitage!! The service is always amazing, it's clean & the food is the real deal! We go every week & have never tried something that wasn't great!

The simple truth: Just. Plain. Good. This place is a breathe of fresh air for Hermitage! (Honestly, there isn't a lot to choose from for Italian fare in ol' Andy Jackson's backyard...) I can't really defend why I've not been to this place until now - my wife suggested it based on her recent lunch experience with friends. Well, we dropped in for dinner last night around 7:30pm. The parking lot was packed (Good Sign #1!) Nevertheless, we were seated right away. (i.e. plenty of seating capacity - Good Sign #2!) The booth was roomy, not cramped. and the noise level was considerably low, given the number of patrons there. We could actually hold a conversation without distraction. (Good Sign #3!) It also did not escape my notice that the server was very friendly - not just courteous, but downright engaging. I like that! (Good Sign 4!) The menu is very easy to "navigate" as the choices are a bit limited. This would be the only small drawback I saw - the lack of variety on the menu. To be completely selfish, I'd like to see more to choose from. On the "plus" side, though, the fewer choices makes the decision a little easier! We quickly settled on: * Three-Meat Flat Bread - sausage, pepperoni and prosciutto with a marinara sauce, topped with mozzarella cheese. (HUGE serving!) * Meatballs & Meat Sauce - a "double whammy" of spaghetti topped with homemade meat sauce and three Titleist-sized homemade meatballs! (More than enough for even the hungriest fella!) (Good Sign #5!) Follow-up service was good, but not invasive. And, the waiter boxed our leftovers himself in front of us (a nice courtesy vs. "do-it-yourself"!) (Good Sign #6!) Final verdict: - comfortable place - generous portions - VERY good food - reasonable prices - good service - casual, friendly atmosphere Well, all the "signs" are here! Try this place. Go! Really! I'll definitely be returning!

Ate there for lunch. Very friendly staff and very knowledgable on the menu items. My brother and I shared the small House Special pizza. It was perfect for the both of us with no leftovers. The pizza was very good and excellent quality. Will definitely be back!

This hidden gem of Hermitage is by far one of the best overall dining experiences, I've ever had. This is our go to family dining spot. The pizza is great and I also recommend the lasagna and pesto pasta. The staff is the most polite I've ever dealt with. We always leave happy from here and always look forward to my next visit.

Gondola House is one of, if not my favorite place to get pizza in TN. My partner and I have eaten here multiple times and we both agree that the Diavolo Pizza - pizza with various Italian meats and spicy peppers - is amazing. It's not on their menu directly because it's usually served as a special. Luckily the few times we have been it was either the special or the chefs went ahead and made it for us because we requested it. The other incredible item is their Chocolate Bread Pudding. WOW. It is insanely good. It's not as much a bread pudding as it is a dense cake with delicious chocolate sauce, but either way it's fantastic and a must try if you're lucky enough to be eating at Gondola's.

We have been here several times and the pizza does not disappoint. Hubby and I are fans of thin crust (sorry Chicago) and this crust is really good and has a bit of a crunch to it. We usually get the Greek and all the ingredients are fresh and the simplicity of it shines through. I honestly have not tried anything besides pizza because when we head here it is because we are craving a good pie with flavor. It is far better pizza than anyone of the ubiquitous chains that flood the area and the price is reasonable. Plus you can pair it with wine or beer. What's not to like about that? Do be prepared to wait a short while for your pizza because it is made to order but it's worth it and you can taste the difference.

Every time we drive by this place I say that we need to check it out. Well, finally, a couple of weeks ago we stopped in to get a pizza to go. Customer service was good and the pizza was great. Soft chewy crust, tangy tomato sauce, and the perfect amount of cheese. My only complaint is that they are kind of pricey. A large with 2 and a half toppings was over $18. I guess that's kind of average but I'm kind of cheap. :)

Decent pizza. Very Americanized version of Italian food. You can get wings, pizza, fried cheese. Should be a sports bar. Mediocre food quality and it appears that the people who eat here are more interested in quantity vs quality, so there is a market for this kind of place.

I'm very picky about marinara sauce and Gondola House has a yummy sauce!! We ate at the Gondola House based on the reviews from YELP and were not disappointed. We started with the Meat Balls then moved onto the Italian Cobb salad and finished with the pizza Blanco. The food was delicious, the service was great and we'd definitely recommend this restaurant to others. If you're in this part of Nashville stop in ... you'll love it.

This is the 2nd generation Gondola House. The owners grandfather I think had the first one many, many many yrs ago. We were happy to see this one come back in the same building (upgraded of course). We had pizza and it was delicious. The place is always packed which is a good sign

This place is amazing! The service was wonderful and the food was perfect! I haven't had marinara that good since moving here from New England. Everything is home made and you can tell. We'll be back!

I really wanted to like this place. It got great reviews, which I now suspect were written by friends or people who don't know what pizza is supposed to taste like. Our server was great, and the atmosphere modern and fun, which are the reasons for the 2 stars. Again, I reeeeeallllly wanted to like this place, but the food was terrible. I'm from Chicago, but I try not to be too snobby about pizza. I have been able to find a couple places in Nashville that make a decent pie, but this is definitely not one of them. Let me start by saying I looked at the menu before leaving the house, and saw that they had a "steak" sandwich, which I haven't had since I moved here 5 years ago. I was very disappointed when it arrived, as it wasn't a steak sandwich. Look, if you're going to chop/slice/shave the meat, please indicate that on the menu, and call it a Philly. Otherwise, give me a steak sandwich...a nice, grilled piece of steak with onions and cheese on Italian bread. The bread was probably good, but the shaved up meat mixture they put on it made it soggy. Ok, now the pizza....I don't know where to begin. The sauce was almost like tomato paste with sugar??? No oregano, basil, salt or pepper in the sauce. Honestly, it was the worst pizza I have ever had. I agree with the few previous honest posts concerning the pizza, and my boyfriend and I noted that it tasted like spaghettios sauce. The outer crust was ok...crispy with a little tough chew to it, but the rest was completely soggy. I mean, soggy enough that it couldn't even hold itself up. The basil was not fresh and finely chopped, and the pancetta was more like super salty ground beef. And I don't even want to talk about the greasy blobs of Kroger "mozzarella" other than to note that a margherita pizza needs to have fresh ingredients on it...that's kinda the point. Fresh mozzarella and fresh basil. What we got was worse than papa johns and frozen tombstone brand. I hated paying the $61, as they don't have any business charging that much for what they put out, but I did. And I didn't even complain, because unless Gordon Ramsey comes in and throws their menu in the garbage, there's nothing they can do to make it better. If you want to pay a lot for great friendly service and a fun atmosphere, but eat very bad food, this is your place. I, however, will drive the extra mile to Painturo's next time.

I love Gondola House. I love the food, I love the ambiance, I love the people. The reason I gave it 4 stars rather than the full monty 5 (which I do not give away easy) is the menu selection. There isn't enough delicious food to choose from! They do have daily specials though but I never seem to be able to go the days with the best specials (like the chicken alfredo lasagna! yuum). They have a great selection of salads and the plate portions are always too big (never a bad thing)! I always end up getting the fettuccini alfredo and mozzarella sticks with a side salad. It can be shared for the perfect lunch portion. The service is wonderful. They treat you like family and just want to please you!

So good. Love to eat local and was delighted to find this place. My husband and I order pizza here all the time. The cheese and crust are awesome. The girls at the front desk are always friendly. Only complaint is that it is a bit pricey for such a thin pizza, but it's mostly worth it for the quality and supporting a local business. The cheese bread appetizer is awesome as well, if you love cheese and garlic (and don't mind smelling like it for a week), I highly recommend.

Had lunch with clients yesterday Thursday Feb, 7, 2013 and I am always impressed every time I come. The Hermitage market is filled with fast food and chain restaurants so, it's nice to see a unique, modern vibrant locally owned and family operated restaurant here. Sure, we have other locally owned and operated business but, none as well done as Gondola house seems to be. The food was fresh and the marinara sauce tasted as if it was made that morning. If they use canned anything, my taste buds couldn't tell. I had the spinach lasagna and it was a nice with a good balance of garlic, spinach and noodle however, if did seem a little heavy on the cheese on top. Granted, it was good, no complaints what-so-ever here. The only other issue I might make note of is food temperature. I could have had my dish hotter as it was steaming when it came to the table. I guess that is just a issue of mine, I like my food to hit the table as if it literally just came out of the oven. In my case, it seemed it may have been under a heat lamp for a spell. We also ordered several other items as we had 5 people in my party. As we were making the rounds asking each other how the food was, every moaned with pleasure and delighted in the fact that it was just good. Service was good as well, friendly, attentive but, not overly so. As I was with clients, I wanted to talk, have conversation without being bothered every 5 minutes and it seemed our server picked up on that and while still keeping our glasses full, was almost unnoticeable. In my book, that is good service. The restaurant itself was clean, open, airy and I loved being able to see right into the kitchen. Of course, with such access, the first thing I did was look over to see if I could notice any unsanitary conditions and I didn't notice anything wrong. It all appeared tidy, clean and well kept...very good. I am most definitely a fan, will be back and next time, I will use my cell phone and take pictures to share.

The ranch dressing is homemade and is amazing. Its a bonus to their salads. I want to dip everything in it!

Not many deserve 5 stars this day and age. This place was outstanding. Pizza was great and the wings are amazing. Chocolate pudding cake is quite tasty as well. Food came out quickly and the server was prompt and professional.

Just ok. The pizza was very bland, the deserts were better. Had the turtle cheesecake and bread pudding. Not a homerun...maybe a single. They got on base. I always try cheese pizza when I go to a new place and I feel if they cant knock that out of the park, then toppings are a no go. I wont go here again, I think pizza hut is better.

Simply the best Italian food in Nashville. I love this place and eat here once a week. So far everything on the menu was delicious. Wait staff is very attentive and the restaurant is very clean.

My girlfriend and I have been anxiously awaiting this new restaurant that moved into the old Fat Mo's. Tonight we got to walk in and try it. How they made me feel like I was stepping into a high end eatery in Green Hills out of that old dump I have no idea but the décor is FANTASTIC. We arrived a little late in the evening around 9pm but were quickly seated by JR. He was Johnny on the spot with everything and ensuring that we had drinks & menus. We ordered the Cheese Bread and an Margarita Pizza with tomatoes and spinach. The Cheese Bread was good however upon first glance it seemed to be exactly what I would get from Papa John's Pizza. The difference was a flakier crust and a richer flavor. The marinara sauce was served piping hot (almost too hot) but wasn't anything special. The pizza arrived a few minutes later and at seemed like it had plenty of toppings but was lacking in the cheese. There was no sauce except for a light spreading of olive oil and a touch of basil. TASTY! It would have been better if the tomatoes had been dried and double the cheese. We had not one but 2 visits from the manager on duty who was very nice and very conversational. He was a pleasure to talk to however it was obvious that he had just gotten done with a smoke or two out back. He accepted the feedback and complements very well also hinting to me that this may not be the only new restaurant planned in the Hermitage area!!!! The only con I would have to say is that our server was just a touch too eager with a stop by the table every 3 or 4 minutes and placing the check just shortly after we got our main course. This didn't encourage us to try any of the deserts on the menu. For what we had the price was very reasonable and as they fine tune the oven and menu I am sure the will only get better. I certainly will be back again and will be encouraging others to stop by as well.

Excellent Service! Excellent Food (we had the chicken alfredo, meat lasagna, and cheese pizza)! Excellent atmosphere! Jesse was our server, he did an amazing job and also served our country in the Navy! We're a Navy family, so Kudos for that! The food was great! creamy chicken alfredo, very meaty lasagna, and the crust on the pizza was great (as well as the sauce). We enjoyed a bottle of vino with our meals and everyone went home completely happy! We were a little compulsive and got the chocolate bread pudding (which had some sort of coconut sauce over it), and the tiramisu was great too! We will be returning, sooner than later (if I have it my way)! Thanks to Kim (in our office) for the word of mouth review!

Fantastic fresh pizza and pastas with great service! This place has modern Italian charm since it was reopen by the family of the original owner. They have kept to my golden rule.... make great food and offer it with friendly service.

Always on the lookout for a good place to eat in Hermitage, I was pumped when Gondola House opened! It's a cute little spot with good food and good service. Is this the most authentic Italian you'll ever have? Definitely not, but is it good food on the cheap? Definitely. I always get the Meatballs and Marinara-very good. My husband really enjoys the antipasti plate. I believe they have half price bottles on wine on Tuesdays, which is always awesome!

Friends were in town visiting and suggested this location. While in another part of the metro Nashville area far from our usual stops, we will add this to our places to visit. Portions were generous. Fried cheese was awesome! Fried ravioli was OK. Spinach lasagne, chicken fettuccini, and spaghetti with meatball/meat sauce were all winners. Pizzas were also very good per our friends from Knoxville. Desserts were good. Chocolate bread pudding was more chocolate cake with hot but yummy sauce. Red velvet cake looked great, but our friends ate it fast! Service was friendly and regardless of whose table you were at, all were attentive to our needs. If you have a hankering for good Italian in a family friendly setting, this is it.

We stopped in on a whim one Saturday and were beyond pleasantly surprised. Our server was awesome and even brought us a sample of beer that we were questioning (without asking for a sample!) We split a large pizza and can honestly say it's some of the best I've had in the Donelson/Hermitage area. I was really looking forward to my leftover slice but the guilty look on my husband's face told me he had already eaten it. Oh well - just means we'll have to go back. Clean restaurant and restrooms, AWESOME pizza, and great service. Sounds like a trifecta to me!

I've been here several times and I'm always impressed. Their flatbreads and pizzas are delicious! They also have great sandwiches and I love the shoe string French fries. The service is always great, very friendly and informative. If you get the chance to check this place out, take it, and go ahead and order the tiramisu when you're done, it's amazing!!

Wow, nice to have a great independent Italian restaurant in hermitage. Chicken piccata was hot and very tasty. Salad was fresh. Bread was good. Wine list is the best in Hermitage - but not extensive. Service was very good. Decor is trendy. Love the place. We have a new comfort food destination!!!!

First time visitor today and we promptly let the host know. He gave us a nice rundown of the menu and said it was more than a pizza parlor. Neither my wife or I had pizza anyway, but we will be back to try it. She had the spinach lasagna and I had a salad. Both were really good and the cheese sticks for our appetizer were fantastic. The decor is simple and elegant, a very nice place that's just down the road in Hermitage.

I've eaten here 3 times. The greek salad is big enough to share 4 ways or more. My wife thinks they put heroin in the meatballs...she's addicted. Good wine and beer selections. Spinach lasagna and chicken parmisan are awesome.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Pizza

Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.

Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.

Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
