This place is well run and you can tell the food is prepared traditionally. I had the baby back ribs and the bark was done perfectly. I wasn't a fan of how sweet the rub was...there's a time for candied bacon, and that's not when I want ribs. I'd still come back and try anything or everything else on the menu, though.

Ok, so I wanted to try southern BBQ on my first trip to Tennessee. So we stopped at here at Stans BBQ for dinner. I had the half rack with salad and baked potato. My wife had the Carolina style pulled pork sandwich. My ribs were actually cooked over the pit. It's advertised at 15 hours cook time, but maybe 12 would have been better because they were a bit dry. Fortunately, they were not falling off the bone, which I hate!!! They had good texture, and the rub and sauce were pretty good. The sauce offered at the table tasted like a decent vinegar based sauce and went pretty good with the meat. The potato was big and cooked well. It was overall a pretty decent meal for me. The Carolina style pulled pork sandwich was a bit different. It came with slaw on top, which is good, but the slaw itself was off. We've never had slaw with tomatoes in it. It also tasted kinda pasture like. The slaw juice soaked the bun, which kind of killed it. The pork itself was pretty good though. Overall, I give it 3 stars because the meats were cooked pretty well. But they need to tighten things up on some of the other things. But not bad.

A local favorite, but I've found service to be slow and food to be just okay. The last time we were there, I had to keep taking our drinks to the register to have someone refill them and while I was waiting, I got the distinct feeling I was bothering them. Maybe the cashier was not happy to have to do our waitress's job.

Had lunch here yesterday. I'd like to give my server about 10 stars. Poor girl. As soon as I walked in I received a call that I'd been waiting for all day. True, I should have walked back out and completed my call but it was 2:30PM and I hadn't had anything to eat since 6:00 AM. I was ready to eat my own fingers by then. She had to work around me pantomiming by drink preference while seating me. I hate to be that person, but I was. The food was good too! It was Fat Tuesday so I helped myself to some yummy BBQ at Stan's based on my customer's recommendation and it was a good call! The ribs are sticky as all get out but they were tasty and perfectly done. If I get back to Greeneville I will definitely visit again and this time I will bring my good manners.

Good, not great. Stan's has good baby back ribs, summer on the patio is nice, but I'm not comfortable in the dining room. Service was really good. Awkward congestion at checkout, parking was easy in the day we brought the motorcycle.

Unreal!!! Read the reviews while traveling so gave it a try. We went back the next night! Never enjoyed ribs so much! Great friendly service too.

It was good bbq. I just wish they didn't put the BBQ sauce on the pork before bringing it out. I like to decide how much sauce I want.

Awesome BBQ. Found it accidently when were riding through Greeneville. Dinner was delicious. Had to go off the route on the way back home so we could have more ribs.

Stan's is a great place to go when craving BBQ. The meat is obviously of a high quality (I'm very, very picky about the meat I eat and have since went vegetarian). I whole heartedly recommend the potato soup; it has a wonderful flavor. I'll agree with Sarah, though - you can ask for cheese and bacon in the soup, too, and this meant that I was basically eating cheese and bacon with a little soup. Perhaps it's safer to ask for it on the side! My non-vegetarian self recommends the small pulled pork sandwich and some potato soup! Yum.

All the 4 and 5 star reviews sent us here for lunch on 9/16. It wasn't worth the 30 minute drive but for the beautiful scenery we viewed driving there and back. The restaurant has casual country kitchen feel with furniture painted to look worn & rustic and retro memorabilia tacked up everywhere. It has an outdoor patio as well. It's conveniently located right off the highway. The first employee we encountered, the hostess, said, "How many?" and never uttered another word to us, not even she when brought our drinks. A hello or just a smile would have been nice. So much for the myth of southern hospitality. How about just basic customer service? Thankfully, our server was capable of speech and smiles. However, she asked to take our orders when we hadn't even been in the restaurant more than 60 seconds total. We ordered a BBQ pork sandwich, BBQ chicken sandwich, BBQ beans, potato salad, and corn pudding. The shredded pork on my sandwich was dry. The sandwich bun was a sad, low quality bun and definitely not made in house. The BBQ sauce was spread unevenly on the sandwich resulting in a giant dollop on one side and none on the other. Their BBQ sauce is heavy on the vinegar, which I like. The taste of the pork was just satisfactory. My husband said his shredded chicken was cooked properly and tasted fine, but also thought the bun was pathetic. Husband like the potato salad despite too much celery. I thought it was too sweet. I prefer more mustardy potato salads. The BBQ beans were tasty, but they contain some kind of meat that wasn't listed on the menu. I doubt any vegetarians or kosher-only eaters will be dining here, but just in case: the beans probably have pork in them. The best thing, by far, was the corn pudding. It was warm, buttery, moist in the middle and crunchy on top. I would def get that again if I ever go here again, which I probably won't so I have to learn to make this at home. My overall impression is that all of the employees, who ages must average to about 17, just wanted to get their tasks over with quickly so they could go back to congregating in the kitchen. Now the most disturbing part: the women's restroom was in poor repair and had no soap. And it didn't just run out the minute I was in there. Since all of the employees I saw were female, I am praying hard that there is another restroom the female employees use and it has plenty of soap. The food gets 3 stars, but the service and accommodations were poor so I knocked it back to 2. If you like mostly mediocre food served by inattentive teenagers who don't have soap to wash their hands, then this is the place for you. I really hope this isn't the best BBQ restaurant East Tennessee has to offer.

Really good pork BBQ. I could've used some hot sauce but I'm not complaining. The sweet slaw was good but not great. Service was awesome. The best part of the meal was dessert. The blackberry cobbler with ice cream is to die for! I would go back just for that.

So, I'm in town for 2 weeks. A lot of people been telling us to go to Stan's for a good BBQ. So I went only for to go. We spent $43.89 and when I asked for a paper plate I have to pay extra. We did not ask for a dozen plates, just 2. The service was bad. Didn't get my expected southern hospitality like the other establishments. Ribs is okay, just too sweet, too dry and too hard for my preferences. The smoked wings was really sweet, my mom only eat 1 out of her dozen wings. She couldn't bear it.

AMAZING is all I can say! Excellent service and the food was to die for. Would give it 20 stars if possible. I'm from Memphis and can honestly say this is sooooo much better than anything we have there. We tried a BBQ sandwich, ribs, wings, fries, and onion rings. The BBQ sandwich was wonderful. There was no fatty chewy pieces of meat and the flavor was amazing. The ribs and wings were wonderful as well. They have a dry rub that is sweet and a little spicy that they make it in house and use on both wings and ribs. They were honestly both the best wings and best ribs I've ever had in my life. The way the rub is caramelized like a crust on the outside is just perfect. The onion rings were a little thick and crispy which is the way we like them. The sauce they serve with the onion rings is amazing too. The fries are traditional steak fries, but still very yummy. Everything was fresh and piping hot. We have a new favorite place to eat for sure:) I added some pics of what we had and the menu.

Very good food at a great price. Ask for sauce on the side! The firewater sauce is awesome! Staff was friendly and fast. The power went out while we were there, but they handled it well.

Really good eastern TN bbq! Was in Greeneville for business and found this gem. had the pulled chicken plate with corn pudding, with the BlackBerry cobbler fir desert. Most excellent! Make certain you have the house dressing on your salad. Really good and unique!

I love this place. My husband and I almost always get the wings and a salad. The wings are prepared with a sweet dry rub that is amazingly delicious! My only problem is they frequently run out wings in the evening. Like another reviewer mentioned, they always ask if you want cheese and bacon on your salad and it IS COVERED in cheese and bacon. Ask for it on the side or just skip it. They have a great menu and I've never had anything that wasn't tasty.

Don't let the outside of this place fool you; it is a FANTASTIC eatery!!! My favorite was the ranch for salad (homemade) and the ribs. Wow! The ribs were soooo GOOD to the T-buds!! I can't wait to get down there again to get more. The overall ambiance is swell too.

This is a great bbq place. Make sure to get an order of there wings. They are a sweet smokey sticky wing that tastes great. I haven't had wings like this anywhere else before. The bbq plates are also very tasty with a nice selection of sides.

Had lunch there today and should have tried Stan's sooner. The wings are great so make sure to order some. Can't wait for my next visit to Greeneville to eat at Stan's again!

Terrific food, great prices. They opened early for us and the food was quick and delicious. I really liked the special hot sauce made by Stan. I don't know when i'll be in Greenville again, but I will be back when I am!

Dinner tonight before the St Louis Philly game five NLDS game.. I had the pork BBQ with the Carolina slaw. The sandwich was a mess and poorly presented. Very little smoked BBQ flavor, the fries were obviously frozen restaurant offerings, the tea was good. Service was adequate hummmm... I was hoping for better based on the other reviews...they were not busy on a Friday night, no waiting...

In town for business for the first time and wanted to try a local place. This was an excellent choice. BBQ was great, NC slaw not so good but the waitress recommend to get it on the side since it was my first visit. The customer service was the best part of the dining experience. The waitresses were very friendly and very helpful with the menu. Best sweet tea i have had in a long time. Will be going back before leaving town.

We went here on a Saturday night and immediately noticed that the place was busy but not busy enough for us to sit outside. The servers were all very sweet but just a little slow to getting to our table and serving our food. My husband and I both had the ribs. They were good but we both thought they were a little on the sweeter side. We like ribs that are more on the salty/tangy taste. Also to note, the ribs come with a house salad. They will ask you if you want cheese and bacon. If you decide to get cheese and bacon, it will cover the entire salad and make up about 1/3 of it. No joke. I had to take off most of the bacon and cheese just to get to the lettuce. One thing to note, they make their Ranch dressing - one word - AMAZING!!

Super yummy!!! was looking for good bbq while vacationing and this hit the spot! I didn't care much for the NC slaw (the waitress said that it was vinegar based, which I should have taken as a warning. But that's not enough to take away a star.

Good pulled pork. Prices are reasonable. Greeneville has a lot of BBQ joints, but Stan's is an institution.
