THE BEST MEXICAN IN GALLATIN!! Don't let the fact this great Mexican restaurant is in an old Pizza Hut fool you. It is completely decorated inside. The food is out of this world delicious and fresh. The portions are huge so you can easily share! We loved the Veggie Quesadilla which was loaded with peppers, onions, squash, mushrooms and yummy white cheese. The guacamole is chunky and delicious. We also loved their sopapilla dessert drizzled in chocolate, honey and cinnamon. Service was excellent. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. It's easy to find on the road across from Panda Express. Try it for yourself! It will be one of your new favorites too!!

Probably the best Mexican restaurant in Gallatin and one of the better ones in middle Tennessee. However, I had just returned from New Mexico and this place just does not compare to there. My family was happier with their meals as they had not been in NM with me. I had the Carnitas dinner and it was good. The menu is much more varied than your average Mexican restaurant and you can try some new flavors. The staff was nice and attentive. The restaurant is a repurposed Pizza Hut and other than the building shape you would not recognize the place. I will come again.

I had many great memories in this building from when it was a Pizza Hut during my childhood. Feeling a little nostalgic and after reading some other yelp reviews, I decided to try Cancun Lagoon. The decor inside has changed and no longer feels like a Pizza Hut... It's bright, fun, and feels like a Mexican restaurant. The service is friendly and attentive. Chips and salsa started it off. The salsa was a bit too savory for my taste, but it was flavorful with a slight kick. The chips were crunchy, but didn't seem fresh. I ordered mixed chicken and steak fajitas. A generous portion came to my table still sizzling. The flavor was great, but some of the steak was very tough and unchewable. There were some great pieces of steak mixed in and those were excellent. The beans and rice were excellent as well. I have to give Dos Margaritas (my favorite Gallatin Mexican eating establishment) the edge in food flavor, but service here was more attentive and personable at Cancun Lagoon. Overall a good Mexican experience, but I still wish I could go back to the days of getting a free Personal Pan Pizza at this old Pizza Hut location because they hardly ever made the 5 minute guarantee.

In my opinion it is the best Mexican restaurant in Gallatin, is pretty clean, nothing too bad. Service is slow, but good. And the food is pretty decent, definitely recommend trying this restaurant if you are a local. The shrimp fajitas are good if you need a recommendation.

I rarely give 5 stars but I am tempted here. Scratch that, I just did. This was my first time visiting and I expected the same food you get at any other Mexican joint but was pleasantly surprised. Ambiance: There is nothing to cut sound so I bet this place gets pretty loud with a lot of people. Nice place, not fancy but not a dump. I'd say nice and casual. B Salsa: Hands down the best salsa I've had since moving back to TN a month ago. I've been to several Mexican places and this salsa, if not fresh, certainly tasted fresh. Thick and not runny. Also they serve it in a carafe which I much prefer. No complaints whatsoever. A+ Chips: Thick and not at all oily. The second basket was even warm. A+ Entree: I was pretty hungry so I got the big burrito. Mucho or grande or something. It was monstrous. So much so that I had to take some home. I NEVER TAKE FOOD HOME. The ingredients tasted higher quality than most Mexican joints too. The veggies weren't cooked to mush and still had some firmness to them. Great seasoning and flavor. A+ Service: I was the only person there for most of my visit so I can't speak to this under normal circumstances but my waitress was very attentive and considerate. A+ I was really surprised by this place and will absolutely be going back. The prices were slightly higher than a typical Mexican restaurant but considering the food tasted much better and seemed higher quality I can't even complain about it.

Waited about 5 minutes to get seated and there was only 3 customers there at the time sitting at the bar. I finally went to the bar to find someone to seat us. Waitress was not attentive, we asked for a salsa refill 3 times before she remembered to bring it, even though we were her only table. Food was decent, nothing special. They forgot to bring out my mom's salad with her fajita so we also had to wait for that. Should be better service when they have 2 people waiting on customers and only one table and 3 people at the bar.

this was our first time visiting Cancun Lagoon and it didn't disappoint. We were immediately greeted and taken to our table, we noticed outdoor seating, so we asked the hostess if we could sit outside and she obliged. The restaurant seemed very clean when we walked through. The outdoor seating was cute, spacious, and most importantly very clean. Christian was our waiter, very friendly, spoke very good English, and had an ownership about him, you could tell he enjoyed his job. VERY IMPORTANT nowadays! He grew up in the restaurant business. It was very nice to get to know him. My husband had the Camarone diablo (might be spelling it wrong) and I had the fish tacos, it was delicious! I had the regular margarita on the rocks, better then most of the local mex restaurants for sure, if it was a tad less sweet it would've been perfect, but it won't stop me from having another:) I hope to get to know Christian and the others better. we will definitely be back, I believe this will be our new "go to restaurant"!

I absolutely love Cancun. Fantastic freshly made dishes at a good price. They have the best Margaritas in town! I can not gush enough. They also host Trivia every Monday night at 7pm. Winning table wins a prize. It's great fun.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
