Don't be put off by the outward appearance, the food is the star here! It is pure country cookin' from Appalachia (not soul food or what is generally called Southern Cooking). Yes, Virginia there is a difference - starting with the taste of the cornbread. I was attracted to Etowah by the train ride that travels from near there into the nearby national forest along the Hiawassee River (a second wonderful experience of the day). I called on my standby iPhone Yelp app to find a local eatery. This place was rated five stars by four others but I grade much harder than most and general don't find any place worthy of that many stars; however their descriptions were good - so what the hey. Imagine that heavenly original restaurant that C'Barrel was modeled on and you'll understand my enthusiasm for this place (a C'Barrel is a poor excuse for the real thing but on a good day might get 3 stars from me). If you're a Kentuckian from the Bluegrass or Knobs region and especially from the eastern mountains of the state, remember back to your childhood and Sunday dinner at Grandma's table. Think cast iron, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, and green beans with cornbread. Kick in that almost too sweet cole slaw that added tang without rendering your tastebuds into the overload associated with a German hot slaw (they have that too if you want it). That's the meal you will get here. No shuck beans but the green beans were properly seasons with bacon grease or fatback. I can't say enough for the fried chicken, I've only had fried chicken better once before when, after a hard day of work, I was fortunate enough to sit at my wife's grandmother's table back in 1972. This is dang good fried chicken. Sorry, no dessert story here, their serving were too large. But next time I will follow other's advice and have dessert first. Sat in a rocking chair on the front porch as the "after church" crowd assembled. Friendly folks with knowing smiles - they knew I was not waiting for a table; my delight was apparent. Oh, the cornbread - not Yankee sweet (too much like cake) or sourass like some I've experienced - buttermilk yes but in the correct ratio for a perfect recipe. Couldn't discern any bacon grease but wouldn't be surprised if it was in there. I will be back even without the attraction of the train ride that also a trip down memory lane.
I sampled the place twice, then chose it as a lunch stopover for 50 people in a motorcycle tour group. They did a fantastic job! I did not hear a single negative comment.
Delicious home cooked food - BBQ Chicken, Fried Pork Chop. Friendly and attentive staff. Worth the stop.

Food is consistently good. I usually order online with no problems at all. Best Italian sandwiches around as well as the Pizza is always hot and tasty with the best delivery service in town. Can't beat the consistency and great service.

Pretty good food, but a little pricey. Seems to be a dollar or two too high on each menu item.
Best food in town! Haven't tried everything on menu but, the bbq, chicken, steaks, taco salad, and hot dog are very good. Also have a restaurant in Athens.
Best place to eat in Etowah nothing on the menu is bad

I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of food here. After flyfishing all day on the Hiwassee in winter a hot meal was just what I needed! The burger was really tasty and not overcooked! Very hard to find a place that doesn't kill their burgers! The fries were really good as well. I will definitely go back and try more on their menu!
Food is great love the hawg backs. But the service is awful. It is as if, you are bothering them by just being there. How dare you ask for something different or change the menu item. You have committed a crime. The only reason we go, is because the other places in town get old. We do make sure it is long periods between visits. Can't take that too much.
The interior was cute , the waitress was nice. The boneless buffalo wings were good but just a bit too much sauce. The buffalo Mac and cheese was good but needed something more. My soup was good but not warm enough for me and the ham and cheese sandwich was also cold. Seems like a good place maybe just an off day ?
