Very authentic Italian food prepared with care. Our first time visit left us hesitant as we arrived at 5:10 and there were only two cars in parking lot. We discovered this business from Yelp and as we later learned they dont open until 5pm. The staff was excellent and the food tasty. My suggestion would be to ask about pricing as specials are price on request and fairly high for Memphis. From the excellent bread and cheese at the beginning of the meal to the Italian coffee to end well done. Most dishes $25-40 range with many higher.

Some people are just clueless. This is the only restaurant in Cordova I would drive to. Been to Italy numerous times and this helps keep us here. So glad they're back...cheaper than a plane ticket!!!

You really have to work to find this place but well worth the effort. Certainly not what you expect in the casual dinning universe of Cordova. Greeted warmly and seated promptly on Friday night at 8:30. Staff was knowledgeable, friendly and did all possible to make the experience top notch. The food was wonderful, all four of us were pleased. The chef continued to bring out samples from the kitchen all through dinner, delicious. It is not cheap but very reasonable for homemade, gourmet, talented chef prepared food. As good as anything we eaten in NYC or Italy. Even though we do not live in the area we will go back again.

This is a difficult review to write. We've done Pasta Italia twice now (and yes, we'd go back) - we were tempted never to return after the first visit, but enjoyed our meal and the ambiance so much that we tried it again. It's a difficult review to write because the service is just so stinking bad; we had hopes of an improvement on visit #2, but in fact it was worse. The location itself is delightful. It's a beautiful restaurant and truly perfect for a romantic date night. Our first visit we brought our children; our second visit was just us. Friendly faces from the moment you step in the door - the chef always comes from table to table with a sweet kiss on the cheek, or the hand, making sure that everyone is enjoying his work from the kitchen. We love the fellow playing the accordion and the greeting at the door is always heartfelt and friendly. I can assure you, dear man, that it is your work in the kitchen that keeps us coming back -- not the work on floor. There is no flow to service - we waited 30+ minutes from the moment we sat until our first glass of wine was brought to the table. At one point we didn't see our waitress at all for almost 45 minutes. We understand that this is a meal to be enjoyed over time, but we also understand flow .. and there is really no relationship being built between server and guest. That relationship is all that is missing. The wait staff appears to be younger, somewhat immature, and their demeanor and level of attention is not in tune with the price point. If my bill is going to be in the vicinity of $250 and you expect to be tipped accordingly, there is a significant gap that needs to be bridged. I would have typically given this restaurant a three-star rating, but a good (legit!) Italian restaurant is hard to come by these days. We will definitely return for another lovely dinner and we will hope that something is done about the service.

This was one of the BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANTS I HAVE EVER EATEN AT! The above statement is saying a lot being that I grew up in a traditional Italian family in NY. Let me explain. My wife & I were visiting Memphis for the first time this weekend to watch my brother compete in his 1st body building competition, the Dexter Jackson Memphis Classic. Being in competition training, he was not allowed to eat carbs for almost 2 months! Excruciating if you're Italian! So when we asked him what he wanted after the competition, the answer was simple...PASTA, PASTA, AND MORE PASTA, AND DESSERT! Well, not knowing the area, I relied upon my yelp app to locate the nearest Italian restaurants. Pasta Italia came up with high recommendations so we decided to try them. The competition went well into the evening and by the time we we're let out it was already after 9pm. By the time we got to the restaurant it was 9:30 and they closed in a half hour! When the host saw we were a party of 7 he had to go ask the Chef/Owner if it was ok to take such a large group at the end of the night. Having friends who own restaurants, we thought for sure we were going to be turned away. To our surprise however, they took us in! The Chef had already started breaking down the kitchen, so the host informed us that we would be on a limited menu but since it included pasta for my carb starved brother, we were glad to stay. BEST DECISION OF THE YEAR SO FAR! Our waiter Justin was absolutely fabulous! If I owned a restaurant, he would be my head waiter without a doubt. After being seated, Justin brought us water and recommended a nice bottle of red wine. While he was pouring the wine, another staff member rolled out a cart with a huge wheel of Parmigiana cheese straight from Parma, Italy! It was heaven! Within minutes Justin had our table covered with anti-pasta for all of us. I felt like I was back in New York at my grandmothers house. I could practically see her in the kitchen preparing the meal! Then came the pasta! Boy did the pasta keep coming! Because we were there late, the chef just kept sending pasta "samplers" out to our table that you couldn't normally get. We were blown away. Every dish was better then the next. Seriously! If I closed my eyes I would have sworn I was eating Grandma Mascetti's food. After stuffing ourselves on some of the best pasta EVER, Justin then took our dessert orders and within minutes we all had desserts and Cappucino in front of us. This was the cherry on the cake! Stuffed and happy, we paid the check and chatted with the chef for a few minutes before retiring to our rooms for the evening. Hands down this was one of our TOP 3 ITALIAN RESTAURANTS WE HAVE EVER EATEN AT! So good in fact, that my wife & I would fly back to Memphis just to eat there! Bravissimo Pasta Italia! We look forward to seeing you again in the future! Grazia!

Wonderful dining experience! My co worker refers to Pasta Italia as the "only true Italian" restaurant in Memphis. I agree 100%. We loved every bit of our meal (it was my wife's Bday)! The whole staff presented a nice desert to my wife and that personal touch went a long way to make her feel special! The lamb-chops were amazing as long with everything else. My recommendation is to allow the staff to take care of your dining selections. That's what my wife and I did and it was PERFECT!! Highly recommend Pasta Italia!

This place reminds me of any restaurants in Naples. Everything here are homemade. The bread they serve is crusty from the outside and soft in the inside like a ciabatta bread. They serve cheese that taste like a Pecorino Romano which is very appetizing prior serving the appetizer or salad. The server explain everything how the food was cooked and the ingredient used prior to serving your meal. They seem very devoted serving the very best and it shows. We had the Linguini de Mare (seafood pasta), pasta sampler, and spaghetti ala pomodoro. The chef has done a great job because everything was awesome. They have a gentleman playing old italian music in a accordion and a large fruit stand in the middle of the restaurant. The light is dimmed which makes it kind of hard to read the menu and the font was too curly. Overall the experience was good but it was a little pricey.

Last time we ate at Pasta Italian it was in Collierville, but now it's moved to Cordova and it's in a little bigger, nicer building. However, the food is the same outstanding Italian cuisine. Our dinner last night was excellent, starting with the usual offering of the grana padano cheese and focaccia bread. We all had wine from the extensive wine list, two Italian Cabernet Sauvignon and a Pinot Grigot - both were excellent. They served a "complimentary" house salad prior to the main courses. My wife had the Rosette al Forno, but in an appetizer size - it was still three pastas of yummy goodness - which was more than enough because they are soooo rich!! My son had the cannelloni de carne, because his mother asked him to get it so she could try it and after all it was her birthday! The cannelloni was excellent, the cheese was rich, the pasta was homemade and flavorful, and the dish had a nice brown crust to it. Lastly, I got the linguini di mare, which had all the requisite shellfish and the linguini was homemade as was the cannelloni. We were too full for dessert, but they sounded delightful. We did have the hot punch served tableside as we discussed which one of the dinners was the best. Why not give it a five star - two reasons, first our waiter was a bit rough around the edges (or as she put it new on the job). It really did take away from what could have been a fine dining experience. Also, the prices are really steep - my son said that's what you pay for really good food and really fresh ingredients. I've eaten in many cities and many restaurants, and I don't think it's neccessarily the case that you have to charge really high prices for good food - especially in Memphis (or Cordova), Tennessee!

I eat out quite a bit in Memphis and i cannot say enough good things about the food here. The location isn't the best, but the food was beyond delicious. Absolutely AMAZING! i had the chef's pasta sample, which was 5 different small portions chosen by the chef. Each one was pure perfection! I couldn't believe how good the food was. For dessert we had a light Puff Pasty w/ fruit and a light cream sauce and i literally licked the serving spoon. This restaurant is a MUST! You will not be disappointed.

Had a group of 5. This place isn't your typical restaurant, it probably belongs in New York or Los Angeles. The food is as good as it gets and so is the customer service. Two people in our party got the feed me dinner, and it was perfect ($89). They gave us a lot of complimentary items and very personal attention. The cook greeted us at the end of our meal to find out how everything was, even though I'm sure he knew the answer. It's pricey, but a great experience.

We had a wonderful experience last night at Pasta Italia! We did the sampler and everything about it was great. BEST ITALIAN in memphis if you ask me:) We will definitely return! Also if you like wine, they had a great italian wine list to choose from! The service was over the top! Never had an empty glass of water or wine:)

This is one of my wife's favorite places and there is no doubt the chef is a fantastic cook. The reason I must give the restaurant a 3/5 is the price does not justify the food served. We started out with the meat and cheese plate for $30. You'd think that there would be more than 6-8 very thin and very small slices of meat along with 3-4 small wedges of cheese. The main food taking up the most room was the lettuce in the middle. I believe there were also 3-4 pieces of a garlic clove roasted as well as a few olives. They also had a very small amount of roasted red pepper, zucchini, and squash. It was tasty but no where near the $30 price tag. I've had meat and cheese places in several different and very expensive cities and this by far was the least amount of meat/cheese for the price. I ordered the Hawaiian fish that comes with a little crab and grilled vegetables (tomato, zucchini, and artichoke all cut and served as a half). For $50 you'd think it would have to be a decent size piece of fish. I received two medallions about twice the size of a half dollar. The taste of the fish was amazing but again the portion was extremely small (picture attached with fork for comparison). Again probably the best Italian chef around Memphis but very expensive for what you get.

My wife and I were looking for a new place to try out in Cordova. Last night we had an amazing experience at this restaurant. The food, the ambience and the service were excellent. Our compliments go out to the chef and the staff as they made our experience unique.

Food and service was very good. It was a little pricy but they did provide a house salad at no charge. Make sure you ask the prices of the specials for the day before you order. I got a bit of a surprise when the check came - lol. Also, the house cheese provided at no charge was a pleasant surprise - very tasty. I wish they would carry a larger variety of California wines. Most of their wine list is from Italy. We will most likely go back - my wife and I will probably split an entree - her doggie bag weighed almost a pound.

We found this place while driving around Cordova looking for "somewhere different" to eat. What a find! A little embarrassed we weren't a little more dressed up as is "fine dining" but what a wonderful meal we had. My husband had the meat sampler special and I had the halibut special. They were delicious-- I almost always complain that restaurant meals are too salty-- these dishes were perfect! And the special touches by the chef and staff make you feel like you are in Italy (delicious bread and cheese, rosette app that was worth price of entire meal, vin brûlée -- all compliments of the chef). Try this gem!

All and all not a horrible experience, BUT! The food is very good, don't get me wrong, but it's horribly overpriced, especially for the area. Fine dinning prices with casual dinning atmosphere. Simple pasta dish is over $23. Desserts $13 and no prices listed on dessert menu. We watched many people open the menu and get up and leave. Service was marginal at best. Eat there quickly, I don't think it will be open long. A pet peeve of mine is not taking American Express, they don't, even though the logo on the bill holder clearly states American Express. Better restaurants nearby for much less cost. Seems like a place for the pretentious Cordovan that doesn't want to drive to dine in an over-priced establishment elsewhere in town.

This place is absolutely awesome. Great service and authentic Italian food. Had the Salmon Crepes.... Exquisite. Pasta sampler was wonderful....This is the best Italian you will get in Memphis, hands down. Went to Pasta Italia Wednesday and Bari Saturday, and PI had ruined me. Homemade pasta, smooth sauces, extras like mulled wine at the end and cheese plates. A really great eating experience. If you like your Italian food to come with all-you-can-eat salad with bottled dressing and frozen breadsticks, this is not the place for you. Expect midtown prices, but out in the suburbs. A place for special occasions or for foodies. Or those that appreciate good food, at least. Great service and the chef comes out to see how things were personally. We don't need to let this one get away.

Fabulous food! Superlative service! Tucked back in a newish but empty shopping area that will never thrive because nobody knows it's there! Thank goodness the restaurant is known & it's busy!!! Yea!! This has to be the best Italian restaurant in Memphis!

I am extremely happy they are back! First of all.....yes the Rossette is a true taste of Italy! First of all.....Brian D., I'm a little shocked at your comment. Yes, it's higher priced but there is absolutely no way you "can find something just as good for a lot less" No way possible. He is a chef, from Italy and his prices are actually cheaper than what they were when he was on the square in Collierville. So, be prepared to pay more, everything is a la carte but be prepared for an incredible meal. I have friends whom have been to Italy and say this food is just as they had there.

What else is there to say? This place is the real deal italian! I have been to Italy several times, and this is what Italian food is supposed to taste like! Carefully prepared homemade pasta's and sauces along with the beautiful atmosphere makes this place special. There are several Italian imitators in this town! This place is authentic!

One of the best kept secrets in Memphis. Get the Rosetta al Forno pasta, at least as an appetizer. It will rival the best thing you ever put in your mouth, Wine prices are reasonable. The food is not cheap, but the quality makes it worth it. Now they have the ability for outside dining, which in the spring and summer should be great. The restaurant has a similar ambience to the old one, but with more breathing room, Take your significant other here for a real treat.

As a New Yorker with a distinct Italian-American heritage, I have dined at some of the best Italian restaurants in New York. Not to mention the Italian family-feast that my family had every single Sunday as I grew-up. For better or for worse, I know my Italian food. From old-world and classic Italian (like my grandfather used to make), all the way to the newer and more eclectic flavors and offerings, I know my Italian food. Fortunately for me, and Pasta Italia, they had an extremely fresh taste. Despite this though, there were some definite miscues. Food: For my wife's birthday, we decided to brave an Italian restaurant in the mid-south. We have been highly unsuccessful since moving here, so chancing Pasta Italia took some convincing of my inner-foodie. Being that we had never been here before, my wife and I both opted for the 'Feed Me' option because we determined that it would provide us with the broadest and most diverse way to experience Pasta Italia's food. The night started off with fresh-baked foacaccia and high-quality parmesan cheese chipped directly from a massive wheel that they carted-out. It was a delicious way to start, and some of the best focaccia I have ever had because it was light, crispy, and full of flavor. Next we moved on to an Antipasto plate that featured various Italian meats such as Salami and prosciutto; but also included marinated olives, vegetables, and roasted garlic. This was paired with a small Caprese Salad. This was exactly as you'd expect -- a salad with some meats and vegetables; but they were very well executed Next was a tour-of-ravioli. We started with a classic ravioli. Next was a pesto-like ravioli. Next was a Pumpkin ravioli. And last was their signature ravioli that contained cheese, prosciutto and was topped with a bechamel cream. All of them were good, with the exception of the pesto-like one which was fresh; but void of any flavor. It was under-seasoned. Their signature ravioli was definitely the biggest hit. Next was an 'intermission' of sorts where we received a light champagne sorbet to cleanse the palette. It was crisp and fresh. This was followed by a meat platter that included the following: Two ribs of rack-of-lamb; two ribs of veal saltimbocca; (maybe) 1/4 lb of Quail -- bone-in; homemade sausage; and beef tenderloin with a mushroom cream sauce. The beef in mushroom sauce was amazing -- seasoned perfectly, full of flavor. I would order this dish on its own. The quail was dry and overcooked, the rack of lamb was under-seasoned and over-cooked; but charred well. They cooked it medium...I like mine rare. They should have asked. The veal was delicious and the sausage was sausage. Very mediocre. They finished our experience with a tour of dessert that included tiramisu, a cup of fruit with ice cream in what (I believe) was champagne, a chocolate pudding of sorts, and two mini-cannolis. Everything in the dessert section was average to good. Food: 3 / 5 (beef medallions and their signature ravioli were definite 'highs', where everything else was average or low) Service: Our server was extremely friendly, engaging, a little boisterous, and had a lot of personality. Honestly, though he was slightly entertaining, he was a little too over-the-top for me -- especially for an intimate dining experience. Lastly, when the restaurant got busier, the service slowed way-way down. Too far down. This was very disappointing when the first half of our dinner took 40 minutes, and the last half took nearly 1 hour and 40 minutes (Dine time 5:45 - 8:05). Service: 3 / 5 Atmosphere: This is where Pasta Italia really shines. From the gentleman touring the dining room playing music on his accordion, to the intimate and dimly-lit dining room, to the cleanliness, to the overall professionalism of the staff, and to the high quality furnishings and plateware -- Pasta Italia did provide an excellent experience. Atmosphere: 4 / 5 (-1 point for an over-the-top waiter that downgraded the atmosphere) Price: Oh Pasta Italia, this is where it is going to hurt. We ordered the 'Feed Me' option fully expecting a loftier price. In fact, I never even asked how much it was. I had assumed between 35 and 50 per person. So when I received my bill and it was over $90 per person, I nearly crapped myself. Now, I didn't crap myself because I couldn't afford it; I crapped myself because their is no reasonable justification for the cost of that food. For how mediocre some of the offerings were, this was in no way comparable to the price tag. Price: 0 / 5 (This was maybe worth 50 per person -- and that is a stretch.) Overall: Pasta Italia definitely delivered a memorable experience on my wife's birthday, and we may consider coming back for the beef medallions or the signature ravioli; but this particular experience was grossly overpriced. Should I have asked for the cost prior to ordering? Probably. Regardless of that though, it doesn't change the fact that the cost did not match the product.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
