We came with a group of 10 in the evening and were seated upstairs. The waitress rolled her eyes every time she was at the table and seemed completely put-upon for basic things like drinks and taking our order for food. The food itself was oversalted to the point of being inedible-- which our waitress would probably have known had she come more than to take our order and drop off our drinks. If you're traveling through the area this is one to skip!

I thought for sure Mexican food couldn't be done wrong....but I was mistaken. From the beginning, we had issues. A party of 15 that came in after us was requested to sit before us. Our server served was scattered and the food was the worst I've had. The chicken had no seasoning or flavor. The enchiladas and burritos had no cheese. Don't come here!!!

I'm a local here and it is one of our staples. I prefer this to any of the Mexican food I have had in larger cites!

Look, I can't give any Mexican restaurant that doesn't serve margaritas more than 2 stars. I mean, it's a Mexican restaurant for goodness sake! And yes I understand that the county is dry, but it was still a travesty. Aside from the fact that I was forced to drink a wine cooler (like it was 1991) the food was actually good. I had a steak fajita salad. Very tasty. Service was friendly. Prices were cheap.

Very pleased with the quality of food here. Comes out piping hot. Everything we had was enjoyed. Good servers, cool old storefront building. As good as any Mexican we can find in Rock Hill, SC where we live.

Food was ok. Wasn't the best Mexican food I have ever ate. Not many options in this cute little small town. Waiter was helpful and polite. We did get our food before our appetizer arrived which was odd. I wouldn't hesitate to stop again if I had to eat somewhere here again.

Think about it. Mexican food in Southeastern Tennessee. Taco salad with all white iceberg lettuce, wine cooler margaritas, stale chips and canned salsa. Combined with a dim witted waitress who could not remember to bring another glass of water after repeated requests, you would have been better off going to Subway down the street. Or eating grass. Absolutely repulsive.

Typical Mexican. No liquor though. Decent salsa but chips were kinda stale. About the best option copperhill has to offer

Salsa is a but spicy but overall good! We have been here twice. The first time I had chicken nachos, which were AMAZING!! The second time I had the beef tacos. These had no flavor and not even salsa could fix that. My family enjoyed this restaurant very much!

We stopped into El Rio after taking a mountain drive and were looking for some tasty Mexican food....wait...what ??? Mexican food in small town Tennessee just yards from the Georgia state line??? Yep....and it was good. As other mention this is the only place that appears to stay open for business after the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway tourist death trap train ride is not in town. As the only place serving food when we arrived at 430pm....it was not busy but steady. An hour after we arrived it was a madhouse with 33 people waiting in the lobby for a seat....strange as they had a closed off seating area with plenty of tables to seat them, but they made them wait....but this review is about MY experience. Staff was friendly and half english speaking, making it appear authentic, and a cold Dos Equis Dark with some chips and salsa kept me happy. The food choices are plenty and the food that my wife and I had was great....I mean it...good tasting and authentic. You wouldn't think this place could exist let alone survive in this location but it does. If you stop in this town go here for food...its one of the only restaurants that gets good reviews....and I now know why.

This is a hidden gem. The sopa de polo is exceptional and the poblano chilies is another great choice.

Had the enchilada especial, beef & bean good, cheese bland, but the chicken was amazing. Kids chicken & fries was solid. Kids quesadilla was bland. Lemonade was very good. 4 stars for that chicken enchilada :)

We went to this little part of Georgia/Tennessee for a white water rafting weekend. While there, we asked several of the locals, including our river guides where the best places in town to eat were. Everybody we talked to told us to go to the El Rio Mexican place on Ocoee Street. After about the third group mentioned this place first, we decided it was the place for us to check out. They were right! This restaurant has surprisingly delicious Mexican food for such a small town. We loved the salsa, cheese dip, beef and chicken enchiladas and shrimp. Everything we ate was very good. If this place was in Atlanta, we'd put it into our regular rotation.

Been to El Rio about five times over last year when we come to this part of GA/TN. Great taco chips & salsa, they have Tecate Beer which is hard to get in most places....wings are great too. Service is just OK; street parking only; aviance is very drab; price is fair.....but will be back again.

The food was tasty and the service was great. The portions of the entree's were a little skimpy.

El Rio delivers good inexpensive mexican food with fast friendly service. The combo platters are under $10 & they also serve beer. I find their food a bit bland but just ask your waitress when you order & they'll add more spice. You'll get a free bowl of nacho chips & salsa as soon as you sit down. I like the enchilada four way platter (one each of beef, chicken, bean & cheese) but the fahitas are def. the most popular entree.

Lots of seating; good service; highly recommend the Bistec Picado - chopped ribeye with veggies

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
